The Firm (2012) s01e12 Episode Script

Chapter Twelve

Previously on The Firm I looked out for your family for ten years.
You want to treat me like some kind of government hack? I never said that.
You said almost as much.
Is that Sarah Holt? She was a medic.
She saved hundreds of lives on the battlefield.
And that's Kevin Stack, the vice president of Noble Insurance.
He was there when I first met Moxon.
He's the one that told me that Moxon was stealing from the company.
Kevin Stack is connected to Sarah Holt? He was her commanding officer.
What do you see? I've got blood on the floor.
Whose blood? I'll check it out.
Team 3, do you read me? Team 3, do you copy? I got us two rooms.
I called Lewis, he's on his way.
Okay, so I want you two to take Claire, and go with Lewis.
I want you out of danger until this is over.
Where are you gonna go? Andrew said if we got out, to meet him where we first met.
I don't think that's a good idea.
He's the one who warned us to get out of the house.
- How did he know to warn us? - He's involved.
I'm not saying we trust him, I'm saying we need him.
We lost everything.
All the evidence is in the house.
If he is involved, he can help us get to Stack on the inside.
Mitch, what if it's a trap? We'll be ready.
Mitch is right.
We have nothing to take to the feds.
If we run now, Stack gets away with murder.
I'm gonna go with you.
No, it's too dangerous.
You need all the help you can get.
I'm going with you! Here comes Lewis, if you guys are gonna go, you'd better go now.
Dad, be careful! It's okay.
So Sarah was a medic in the army? A combat medic, she saw a lot of action in Afghanistan.
And Kevin Stack was her commanding officer? We know what the Moxon numbers mean.
They're all Noble patients who died within the last year.
And they died sooner than projected so Noble didn't have to keep paying for their care.
So there it is Kevin Stack was saving money for Noble Insurance by killing terminally ill patients and he was using my client, Sarah Holt, to do it.
And Martin Moxon must have figured out the truth and decided to blow the whistle.
That must be why he leaked that list to you of the patient file numbers.
And that's why Stack sent his guys over to Moxon at the Parkview.
Well, we said we couldn't hand this over to the feds until we knew what we had.
Now we know.
The problem is it's all circumstantial.
You can't go to the feds with a theory.
We need hard evidence proving that Sarah was a killer working for Stack.
What about her schedule? If she was really killing all these people then she had to be in each one of these cities the day that they died.
We could check her laptop.
The hard drive's been wiped, but I'm sure we could get Dimitri to restore some of the data and put together a calendar.
It's worth a shot.
I could circle back around to Moxon's wife.
Maybe now that we know what we're looking for there's something in his personal files that we could use.
Good.
Ray? I'm still trying to I.
D.
Stack's guy with the army tattoo.
We are close.
We are very, very close.
We can't do anything that raises a red flag.
Stick to our regular routine.
And if Stack is watching, he sees nothing.
You rang? What's the latest on McDeere? Nice to see you too.
He's your employee, shouldn't you tell me? You're the one with the bug in his briefcase.
They figured out Moxon's list, Kevin.
They know the numbers are linked with dead patients.
Relax, Alex.
It's under control.
Did you just tell me to relax? We haven't heard anything new.
You know McDeere, he's a lawyer, through and through.
He won't move without direct evidence.
So far everything he has is circumstantial.
For now, we just hold steady.
- And Ms.
Holt? - She's not talking.
- She hasn't met with McDeere for weeks.
- So I was right.
We can handle McDeere without things getting messy.
- Where is he now? - Just where we want him.
Working.
You told me I might not even have to go to trial.
I got two convictions! I go down for another robbery, I'm done! It's not just robbery, Gerald.
It's attempted murder.
The man you shot almost died.
Hey, I didn't shoot anyone! Mr.
McDeere, if I did this, if I shot that guy, I would tell you, I swear.
But I wasn't there.
The ATM is on Hudson.
The robbery happened on Irving.
I went to the ATM, I took out some cash - my cash! I didn't even need to jack him up! Listen to me, Gerald.
When I started my firm, you were my first paying client.
You were the first person in DC who believed in me.
- I want to believe in you.
- You have to believe me.
It's the truth.
I told you, I had a job.
I was a cook at Apollo's on 9th.
I had a place.
My girl Anna, she loves me.
Why would I want to mess that up? You were identified! The victim pointed you out! He's wrong! The cops, they grabbed me off the street, they stood me up in front of the guy, they didn't even show him anyone else! Gerald, enough! I can't argue mis-ID.
Your DNA is on the gun.
Just got notice this morning.
Now, we can postpone the trial to review it, but your DNA is on the barrel.
No Look at the report.
Now, we can argue that both the DNA and the eyewitness are wrong.
But we know that that is a long shot.
I wasn't there! These cops, they're trying to set me up.
Gerald, listen to me.
I am your attorney.
My job is to defend you.
But in order to do that, I need a viable defense.
Yeah Okay.
You want a defense? I'll give you one.
Is it the truth this time? I'm telling you, it is.
It's all you need to know.
You know, once in a while, we get a case that's open and shut.
This is one of them.
The bottom line is the defendant robbed the victim at gunpoint.
A good man.
A new father who just lost his job.
We'll show you video from the ATM cameras.
The defendant was there.
He followed the victim out of the bank, and a block later, he produced a gun.
Don't take my word for it.
The victim will ID the defendant as his attacker.
He'll tell you that when he grabbed for the gun, Mr.
Sykes shot him.
And in the chaos, he left the gun behind with his DNA still on the barrel.
Now I'm not like Mr.
Sykes.
I work hard for my money.
But with evidence like that, today I won't have to.
Gerald, I'm just not sure the jury is You're my lawyer.
If I say it's the truth, and you don't know I'm lying, you have to defend me.
Anna's gonna lose it.
Stood by me this whole time, I swore to her I wasn't there.
It's true.
Gerald Sykes was there.
He is on the ATM video, he did struggle for the gun, and yes, that must be his DNA.
But it is there for very different reasons.
Ones the prosecution did not consider.
What if Gerald Sykes was the victim of this crime? You heard the prosecutor.
This witness, this new father, he had just lost his job.
He needed money.
So he did a desperate thing.
He pulled a gun on my client.
And when Gerald grabbed for it, he left his DNA on the barrel.
When the gun went off, he ran.
A mistake, yes.
But he was scared.
He has a criminal record, he knew that the police would think that he was responsible.
So when the police showed up, this so-called victim, he did the only thing he could do.
He accused my client.
He had to explain being shot.
What else could he say? Gerald Sykes admits to being at the scene.
But he is innocent.
And the prosecution can not prove otherwise.
- You got anything? N- ot yet.
Whatever wiped this hard drive was no accident.
You sure you wouldn't rather shake the sheets with a guy who served time for hacking instead of manslaughter? Just keep your eyes on the computer.
Ray's a lucky guy.
Oh, you're lucky too.
- I got something.
- Hot damn! That's Sarah's travel calendar.
You are worth every penny we're not paying you.
You know, for an auto claims adjuster, she sure gets around.
Buffalo, then Philly, then Charlottesville Hartford, Bethesda, Providence.
- You already have this? - No, I have a list of dead patients.
Her travel matches exact dates and cities where each one died.
If I didn't think you'd take it the wrong way, Dimitri, I'd kiss you.
Now hold that thought, 'cause there's more.
There's a software program.
I've only got pieces so far.
Software program for what? I'm not sure.
I think I can rebuild this.
Something to do with a ventilator.
Now, what would Sarah Holt need with a ventilator program? I don't know, but whoever put it here did not want it found.
A ventilator program? Dimitri's restoring the data now.
Margaret Whittaker was on a ventilator.
The medical examiner said that it was switched off intentionally, before she was smothered.
- What do you think this program does? - I don't know.
When Dimitri's done, that's was I want you to look into.
I've got to get back to court.
Mitch! Tammy, I know that this is bigger than we thought, and it's scary, but we will get through this.
Thank you for that.
I just was gonna tell you you have mustard on your tie.
Okay.
I can tell you this it's definitely military.
I have a sergeant friend who says it's army.
Then you came to the right place.
Fort Belvoir's just up the road.
One of the largest army bases in the country.
I'm thinking Desert Storm.
Boom, there you go.
That tattoo you got there is SOA.
Medics embedded with Special Ops.
Guys who wear that tattoo are medics? Highly-trained.
See that snake coiled around the dagger? Looks a lot like the Caduceus, the symbol of medicine.
It's also the official sign of the US Army medical corps.
But the Caduceus has two snakes and wings.
You noticed.
So did the SOA.
Like a lot of people, they reject the Caduceus as the true symbol of medicine.
- What is the true symbol? - The staff of Asclepius.
- One snake, one staff, no wings.
- Staff of Asclepius SOA.
Asclepius was the god of medicine.
These are serious soldiers.
You don't want to cross 'em.
You swore you weren't even there.
And now you're saying that that man robbed you? I had no choice.
He said we'd lose if I didn't come up with a story to explain the DNA which isn't mine.
So the cops are framing you? - Why would they do that? - I don't know.
But if they're going to lie to put me in prison, I'm going to do whatever it takes to stay out.
Anna, the government has the burden of proof.
If that version can be disproved, we have a right to argue it.
My family, my friends, they all warned me not to trust you.
But I told them no, he's not that man anymore.
- He's changed.
- Anna please.
It took a huge leap of faith to be with me, and I would die before I'd do anything to risk losing you.
You believed in me when no one else would.
Please, sweetheart.
Believe in me now.
I'm sorry, but I don't.
Mrs.
Moxon, thank you for bringing all this over.
I want to find the truth about Martin's death as much as you.
But I'm afraid this won't help, I've gone through it all and there's nothing related to Kevin Stack or any kind of conspiracy here.
- What's this one from the bank? - Probably just another mortgage notice.
- Do you mind? - No.
It's not from the mortgage department.
It's about your husband's safe deposit box.
It says the rental fee's overdue.
I didn't even know Martin even had a safe deposit box.
Mr.
Shanley, before I bring the jury back in, are you prepared to call your first witness? Actually, Your Honor, no.
Can we step up, please? I'm sorry to do this Mr.
Shanley, tell us first, apologize second.
Your Honor, we do have DNA, but the people have decided not to use it - as part of our case.
- Excuse me? Why would you do that, Counsel? Your Honor, it's come to our attention that the crime lab used to conduct the DNA analysis is under investigation.
The District has raised concerns about quality control.
Therefore, all DNA results received over the last four months are being deemed unsuitable for admission.
And you're just telling us this now? I was informed over the break.
That's crap.
You deliberately held back until after our opening statement.
I demand a mistrial! Our entire defense is based on the fact that they had DNA! What are you saying, Mr.
McDeere, you made up your defense? No, I'm saying that without the DNA, I would have argued that he wasn't even there.
He was! He wasn't.
He was at the ATM.
The robbery took place a block away.
You're just upset because you admitted the truth.
You're such a champion of the truth.
That's enough, both of you.
Defence motion is denied.
Your Honor This is a court of law, Counsel.
You don't get to argue whatever you think might work.
You said he was there, that was your choice.
And if he wasn't? You should have said so from the start.
But the truth still has a place in my courtroom.
You don't get a do-over because you think another theory plays better.
Opening statements aren't evidence.
I'll instruct the jury to disregard any mention of DNA.
I want that mistrial.
And I want a month's vacation in Hawaii.
It's a disappointing day all around.
Let's continue.
We're not supposed to let anyone in here.
It's a restricted area.
Relax, Derek, you're alone with a woman in the supply room.
If we get caught, you'll look like a big stud.
This is the model you asked about.
Sweet.
Let's turn this puppy on.
And this is the program I was talking about.
So I just breathe through this, and then what? That's it.
The machine digitally records your breathing patterns and stores it on the hard drive.
I hate to ruin your James Bond moment, but your program's not doing squat.
Are you sure? I may not get a lot of women alone in supply rooms, but I know my ventilators and this one's doing everything right.
Crap.
Can I still keep the hundred bucks? Of course, it's not your fault.
I think this software is just corrupted.
What's that? You took the mask off but the machine didn't sense it.
- It's still recording? - Yeah.
I think we just figured out what your program does.
We have to start over.
- I told you that DNA wasn't mine! - Gerald I wasn't there! I only said different because you told me we couldn't win! I know, I'm sorry.
I didn't believe you so I pushed you to come up with a new story.
We should have challenged the DNA.
I've just never seen that work, Gerald! But now you can tell the jury, right? I can't.
The judge won't let me.
I moved for a mistrial, but she won't let us introduce a new theory.
I don't even know what that means.
It's hard to explain, but you can't tell a jury that you were there, and tell them that you weren't.
It is repugnant to the truth.
I don't know what that means! Look at me I'm sorry.
But this is where you're at.
I know it is frustrating, and it's scary, but this is not over and we can still win! The boxes in this room have our highest level of privacy.
There's only one key, and it's renters-only.
Thank you.
Not sure I want to know what Martin was hiding.
A lot of these boxes are huge, let's hope he was storing files to make a case against Kevin Stack.
- Here it is.
- So much for that theory.
These are keys to other boxes.
That's more like it.
They're copies of patient files.
All of them are marked deceased.
Why are there so many? The list Martin gave us only had eleven names.
Oh my God.
We left the money in the bank for now.
I didn't like the idea of walking around with half a million dollars in cash.
I like the idea.
All these people just gone? Most of them weren't even on Moxon's list.
Were they killed? Maybe that's why Moxon had the money.
Maybe when he found out the truth, Stack paid him off.
He must have felt so guilty.
When I asked Moxon that day at the Parkview whether he knew Sarah Holt, he denied it.
Oh, he must have.
She's guilty, Mitch.
Her calendar proves that and so does the program on her laptop.
It's an override program.
It works anytime, even if the machine is off.
Whatever your real breathing patterns are, it overwrites them to make them appear normal.
But she didn't use it.
Why didn't she use it? Well, because that must have been her plan to smother Margaret Whittaker and overwrite the log to make it look like she died of natural causes.
But got distracted by Margaret's pendant.
So she stopped to put it on, and that's when her son surprised her.
You must be Eugene, Margaret's son.
She never got the chance to cover her tracks.
In comes Eugene and she bolts.
Found him.
Take a look at that.
Desert Storm, '91.
I even paid a visit to the army historical society.
There's your man, Stack.
Those are the two guys who chased me at the Parkview.
Yeah, William Herman and Vincent Mercer.
They're both medics, just like Sarah.
Okay, maybe we can use this to get Sarah to talk.
Talk, why? It's over! We are giving everything we have to the feds.
I am still her lawyer.
And technically, I have to defend her.
I told you I'm innocent.
We have nothing else to talk about.
Really? What about Kevin Stack? What about the SOA? I don't know what that is.
What about the ventilator program on your laptop? That's right.
We found it.
It's over, Sarah.
I'm giving everything I have to the feds.
How much do you think you know? I know you killed terminally ill patients for Kevin Stack at Noble.
I know you're a serial killer.
I know he hired you, he brought you to Washington DC, gave you a job And he asked you to kill.
And God knows why, but you said yes.
I am a killer.
But I wouldn't be so sure there's a God who knows why.
You killed Margaret Whittaker.
And if you were caught, why didn't you just call Stack? There had to be a plan if you were arrested.
He could have got you a lawyer.
I have things to trade.
Stack's lawyer would never let that happen.
So you just let the court assign this case to me? I'm sorry I got you into this.
But I am not going to prison forever.
Why didn't you tell me this before? Because Kevin Stack is a great man.
You have no idea why we did this, do you? You have no idea how brave and brilliant he is.
Why don't you tell me, Sarah, and I will do everything in my power - not to become physically ill.
- Not without a deal.
I want to talk to the US Attorney.
You killed over a dozen people.
I don't think there's a deal on earth that could save you.
Tell them I'm ready to talk.
You tell them this road you think you're on you have no idea how far it goes.
Mr.
McDeere Kevin Stack is a great man.
He's also very dangerous.
If he knew we had this conversation, he'd come for us both.
Please be careful.
Found Herman and Mercer.
Nice, where? Mercer's got a place in Arlington.
He left his house at nine this morning.
He picked up his buddy.
And they're walking in to a Noble satellite office.
Know what? It feels good to be the one doing the watching for a change.
I hear that.
I am on my way to the US Attorney's office to discuss a deal for Sarah.
Think they'll bite? I don't know, it depends on what she's offering to trade.
She made it pretty clear, if Stack or his people find out, - it won't be pretty.
- Don't worry, bro.
If Stack's guys move, we'll know it.
A deal? Last time we talked, you were telling me how innocent she is.
Things change, Diane.
Maybe in your world, but not in mine.
I wanted life before, and I want it now.
It's more complicated than that.
Not for me.
She killed a defenseless woman in her sleep.
Diane look at me.
Look at me! This is not the face of a lawyer doing business as usual.
You know me.
I do not waste your time! I am into something here, and it is real.
How real? What if I told you that Margaret Whittaker wasn't the only body? Meaning what, your client is a serial killer? Meaning that my client is a pawn.
She's a part of a larger conspiracy.
Come on, Mitch, I didn't get my bar card this morning.
If you want a deal, bring your client in.
If I like what I hear, we'll talk.
She was hired, Diane.
Off the record? She killed an innocent woman, you know that.
But what you don't know is why.
Pass.
I don't need her.
I'll do my own investigation.
And find nothing! You've had this case for months.
Diane, when this breaks, it's gonna be big.
You think about how you handle this case, because however you do, it will make your career, or it will destroy it.
Lenore Ferguson, she had three young girls.
James Wicks, he had just become a grandfather.
All sick, all dying, but it wasn't over.
These people still had life left to live.
Deceased - it's marked on there like it's some kind of business transaction.
I know, look at this guy, Gabriel Lions.
He just died on the 8th.
Oh, it was his birthday.
He turned 50 years old that day.
- The 8th? - Yeah, it's right here.
Well that's not possible.
Sarah couldn't have killed that man, not on the 8th.
Why not? 'Cause that was the day of her arraignment.
She was already in custody.
What? Tammy, if she didn't kill him, who did? Maybe Sarah's not the only one working for Stack.
There could be others out there.
Oh my God.
How many are you saying she killed? I don't know.
A dozen, maybe? She won't tell me everything.
But she can bring the whole thing down, Diane, the whole conspiracy.
I'm sorry, Mitch.
Even if I wanted to, I couldn't make a deal that size.
I'm sorry, I need to take this.
Hey Look, I'm with Diane now, can I Slow down.
What do you mean there are others? The 8th? Hold tight, I'll call you right back.
Sarah's not the only one, there are others, Diane.
What are you talking about? Other killers.
You need to make this deal, Diane.
Sarah can tell you who they are.
- Diane! - Okay! I'll talk to my bosses.
Give me a few hours.
Your attorney's back; Said it was some kind of an emergency.
Hello, Sarah.
Please don't stand on my account.
It's good to see you, sir.
Really? And yet you don't write and you don't call.
I couldn't.
I failed, sir.
I couldn't risk my mistake being traced back to you or to the mission.
You had a protocol to follow, Sarah.
I've known you a long time; It's not like you to disobey orders.
My orders were to protect the mission.
I'm doing that.
You can count on my silence, Major.
And my loyalty.
You're a survivor, Sarah Calm, even in chaos.
I've always admired that.
But it does make me wonder how you intend to survive this.
Maybe by making a deal? Trading what you know? No, sir.
I wouldn't do that.
And McDeere, you wouldn't send him to broker an arrangement? You're scaring me, sir.
The commander I know would never think I could do that.
I believe in what we're doing, sir.
I've proven that.
Yes, you have.
You don't want to be my enemy, Sarah.
You know what happens to enemies of the mission.
I'm loyal, sir.
I would never turn against you.
Good.
That's all I needed to hear.
How'd it go? I don't know.
She has to talk to the US Attorney.
What are you doing here? I thought you were keeping an eye on Stack's guys.
I am.
They're keeping an eye on you.
I just followed them here from Noble.
Right outside.
What am I doing, Ray? I've got a guy in there on trial, fighting for his life.
I should have trusted his initial defense.
I know I said business as usual, but he is innocent.
He deserves better than what I can give him right now.
You can do this.
Good people make mistakes.
I'm living proof.
One thing can change your life.
One punch can change your life.
You think he's innocent Go in there, don't let the jury write him off.
I noticed him in line at the ATM a couple of people ahead of me.
You're referring to the defendant? Yes.
We didn't say anything to each other.
I just got my cash and left.
A few minutes later, I was walking home when he came running up behind me.
- And what did he say? - I don't remember.
I mean, he had a gun.
It was black, metal.
He said to give him the money.
- But you didn't? - No.
I wish I had.
I just lost my job.
Have a new baby.
I put my palm on the barrel of the gun.
It was instinct.
- That's when he shot me.
- Where? The bullet went through my hand and hit my right shoulder.
Thank you.
No further questions.
I wasn't there.
He ID'd the only guy the cops showed him.
It's a good story, Mr.
Hobbs.
But that's what it is a story.
The truth of the matter is you tried to rob my client.
That's ridiculous.
You said so yourself.
You just lost your job.
Your wife had just had a new baby.
You were desperate.
So you tried to approach my client.
He never approached me because I wasn't there! I went to the ATM, but I never followed him home! Mr.
Sykes, you will not comment on the evidence.
Evidence! What evidence? He's my lawyer! I told him I didn't do this! Mr.
Sykes! The fact of the matter is you pulled the gun on my client.
He grabbed it from you.
No! No! Mr.
Sykes, I will not warn you again, sir! Listen to me, I'm being framed! I only said I was there because they had DNA! - Order! - It's his fault! He made me say it! I'm not going back to jail because you think I was there - and I wasn't! - Order! He grabbed the barrel.
That's when you were shot.
Yes, he was there, and yes he did reach out for the gun.
But it was only in self-defense Get off me! I wasn't there! Get off me! You okay? We can get you medical assistance.
No, I'm fine.
It's just more of a bruised ego.
Hey, you couldn't see it coming.
In a fair fight well, he probably would have killed you.
If you'll just give me a minute, I will be ready to continue.
Yeah, that won't be happening.
I'm declaring a mistrial.
Your Honor! Take a breath, Mr.
Shanley.
He clocked his lawyer in front of the jury.
You really think they're impartial at this point? The defendant's responsible for his own behaviour.
The defendant has a screw loose.
But I'm not gift-wrapping him grounds for appeal.
Your Honor, if you are moving forward with a new jury, I would like to stay on as counsel.
That's also not happening.
I'm appointing new counsel.
With the DNA out, this is a one witness case.
We'll be done in two hours.
Your Honor, if you grant a mistrial, the defendant gets the benefit of his bad behaviour.
And if I don't, you get the benefit of it.
This jury's tainted.
Your Honor, if you would just allow me Mitch, you're out! You did what you could.
Let someone else take it from here.
Why didn't the court officers pull him off you sooner? Dude, I taught you to block punches, just not with your face.
Don't make me laugh, it hurts.
Any word from the US Attorney's office? No, not yet.
It doesn't make any sense.
If Sarah didn't act alone, they have to make a deal.
They can't just let other murderers walk.
These are open homicides, they can't look the other way.
Guys, you're not gonna believe this.
Moxon wasn't just keeping files on his past victims, he was predicting who was gonna be next.
What are you talking about? All the files say 'deceased' with date of death, but on 3 of them, the dates are in the future.
I just got off the phone with one guy his file says he's dead.
He didn't get that memo.
Law office, Mitch McDeere.
Yes, he'll be there right away.
Thank you.
US Attorney's office.
He wants to meet with you right now.
- It's about Sarah.
- Ray? Stack's guys are right out front.
Use the side.
Step through.
Excuse me, sir, can you step aside and open your case, please.
Is there a problem? Any wireless devices, Bluetooth headset, maybe? No.
I am in a bit of a hurry.
I can't let you in with the briefcase sir, not until we know what's setting off the alarm.
You can leave it with me.
Thanks for coming.
You know Franklin Shore, the US Attorney for the district.
Walter Barnes runs the criminal division at Main Justice.
Thank you for meeting with me.
I have to say, you're not making this easy, Mitch.
We can't make an offer until we know what we're getting in return.
I'm not playing games, Mr.
Shore.
I will give you everything I have.
But my client may be the only one who can help you prove it.
And this client, Sarah Holt, you admit she's committed multiple murders? Yes, and these murders may only be a small part of the equation, Mr.
Barnes.
I have reason to believe that other people have been killed.
And more people will die if this conspiracy continues.
I'm sorry.
Gentlemen This is real.
I'll tell you what's real, Mr.
McDeere.
A serial murderer getting special consideration from the United States government.
With all due respect, the government makes deals with killers all the time.
Not like this.
Not half-blind.
Let me take her the possibility of parole.
The chance to get out.
At least let me offer her that.
That's all it would be the possibility.
Fine.
And if these murders happen in multiple states, then you'll help her get concurrent time.
All right, we can live with that.
You've got a day, Mitch.
You bring her the offer.
you tell her if she ever wants to leave prison, she'll take it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Mr.
McDeere, I need you to come with us, sir.
We need to ask you a few questions.
About what? We found a listening device in your briefcase, sir.
Military grade, very high-tech.
A listening device? Bug.
Our office has sophisticated counter-surveillance detectors.
Could you please tell us what you were trying to record, sir? Tell them I'm ready to talk.
Sir? Excuse me, sir! I need to see the warden! I have a client who needs to be put in protective custody immediately! - And you are? - My name is Mitch McDeere, I just spoke to someone at the switchboard.
I'm am Sarah Holt's attorney.
Okay, if you want to tell me what it's about, maybe I can do something.
Never mind, just let me see my client! Sir, you've got to calm down.
Listen to me! My client may be in danger! I need to talk to her now! Another guard will bring her down to interview room 3.
I'm sure she's fine.
We did a head count at 14:00, we've been in lock down What the hell? Code Black, Code Black, Cell 1-1-4.
whose cell is that? What's a Code Black? It's Holt.
I went to get her like you said, but she didn't answer.
Sarah! Sarah, it's Mitch! Can you hear me? Sarah! She's dead.
The paramedics found no signs of trauma on the body.
Apparently, no injuries of any kind.
Listen to me, Sarah Holt was murdered.
Take it easy, son.
Don't tell me to take it easy.
You're the warden, your job is to keep these people safe.
I'm well aware of what my job requires, Mr.
McDeere.
And nowhere on that list is it required that I take any crap from you.
Then how did she die? She was on lock-down in her cell.
For all we know, it was natural causes.
No, I was with her this morning, she was fine! Who has access to that cell? I want an autopsy.
I've heard enough.
My people didn't do this.
We'll investigate like we would any death that occurs outside the infirmary.
If we find anything, we'll let you know.
Hey, Counsel! Hey.
What are you doing here? My new attorney just got me acquitted with the truth.
They just processed and released me.
Hi Anna, nice to see you two together.
Gerald told me what happened.
Maybe you should have gone with mis-ID from the beginning.
Yeah, well, I'm just glad it all worked out.
Hey thanks for finding me a way out.
That was a real stand-up thing you did, takin' a beatin' to get me a mistrial Guess you're right.
One punch can change your life forever.
We got nothing.
Doesn't mean there's not anything here.
I'll get us all new phones.
From now on, no landlines.
I called Lewis.
He's on a case, but he'll be back in the morning.
Claire, honey, let's go in the other room.
Did they really kill her? We could never prove it.
No marks on her body.
These guys know what they're doing.
Stack probably had somebody on the inside.
First thing tomorrow, we give all this stuff to Lewis.
Until then, we don't let our guard down.
Roger that.
I trained her.
Taught her everything I know.
She was a good soldier.
Good kid.
She was in the process of betraying you.
You know that.
I'm not saying it didn't need to happen, I'm just saying You know what I'm saying.
And you know who's next.
I always thought we could control him.
But you're right.
- It's time we end this.
- My guys should be there now.
I've arranged to watch a live feed.
Hello? You've 90 seconds to get out of your house.
Andrew? Go to your window, do it now.
Are you okay? Go to your window, now! Oh my God.
You just couldn't let it go, could you.
Abby, where's Mitch? I thought he said you were all coming here.
This is it? - Do you think he's in there? - We'll find out.
- Let's go.
- No, wait.
I still think this is a trap.
I never trusted Andrew, and I sure as hell don't now.
Look, he did warn me about the attack.
I'm with Tammy on this; This guy's a born liar.
Why here, anyway? Because this is where Andrew and I first met.
Let's do this.
