The Fosters s04e12 Episode Script

Dream a Little Dream

1 Lena: Previously, on The Fosters Brandon: I wanna go to Juilliard more than anything.
You've committed academic fraud.
What does What does that mean? You're not going to Juilliard.
Aaron: There was more DNA on the murder weapon.
Besides Kyle's.
That kid is a monster.
You! Need to let this go! - You wanna let a killer back - Watch out! - (tires screeching) - (screaming) Hey! Stef: This young man was stalking my daughter.
He broke into our house.
Mariana: Jesus thought that Nick was gonna hurt me.
He's gonna be okay.
He wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you.
Hey, I need a doctor, please, I need a doctor please, I need a doctor, somebody! Lena: You're gonna put a bolt into his head? We have to.
If the swelling continues, it can press down on the spinal column, severing the connection between the two, which could be fatal.
- (alarm sounding) - (inhaling sharply) (breathing heavily) (monitor beeping) Hello? (alarm sounding) Hey! (alarm sounding) Hello? Yo, is anyone here? Oh my God What are you doing here? The new owners are gonna be here soon.
Where's my family? - They moved.
- Where? They didn't leave a forwarding address.
They left me behind? Well one less mouth to feed, right? You should go.
You don't live here anymore.
(echoing) You don't live here anymore.
- Mariana? - This way.
Mariana (whispering): Not that one.
Don't let him get you! (screaming) We're here, baby, we're here.
We're right here.
We love you.
Well, we can't charge her with hit and run if she had cause to leave the scene.
- What cause? - She said she was afraid of Troy Johnson.
Said he wouldn't let her out of his car.
You believe that? Might explain why he left the scene.
This girl's been harassing everyone involved in the Kyle Snow case.
And now the victim's grandson.
Look her mom's a cop.
Maybe we oughta give her a call.
I know the mother.
She's not a team player.
Besides, if she wanted Mom here, she'd have brought her.
(knock on door) Some guy just came in with his lawyer.
Says he was involved in an accident this afternoon.
- What's his name? - Troy Johnson.
You want me to put him in a room? Yeah.
(theme music playing) It's not where you come from It's where you belong Nothin' I would trade I wouldn't have it any other way You're surrounded By love and you're wanted So never feel alone You are home with me Right where you belong Okay, uh we should clean up, for Moms.
Why were you hanging out with Nick? I wasn't hanging out with him.
He was stalking me at the festival.
Well, where is he now? Jail, probably.
Police took him away.
Yeah, and I hope they never let him out.
What if he escapes and comes here again? He can't.
What if he's already here? Maybe he's hiding in the garage or the attic.
Okay, that's that's not funny.
Can you take out the garbage? In the dark? I mean, seriously, what if he is out there? Okay, are you still stoned? Again? What are you, a pothead? No.
At least I'm not poppin' pills.
Okay, I was taking those to study.
Not party.
Jeez, Jude, you're only 14.
Where's Callie? Why isn't she helping? Probably with AJ.
Having sex.
I hope you're not having sex.
Hashtag, none of your business.
Okay, whatever.
I'll finish this in the morning.
I'm going to bed.
Me, too.
My client left the scene of the accident to get medical attention, as you can see, which is his right under the law.
He cannot be charged with hit and run.
And he's coming in of his own volition to report the incident.
Got it.
So, why don't you tell me what happened.
Callie? Sorry.
It's okay, but I gotta ask you to turn your phone off during questioning, it's department policy.
Okay.
So, you say Troy Johnson approached you at the Festival on the Marina.
Yes, um I guess he heard that I was raising money to help Kyle.
He murdered my grandmother.
And I simply asked her why she'd wanna help a killer go free, and then she got really hostile.
He got really upset.
So how'd you end up in his car? Well, I ran into Troy at the parking lot.
And he apologized for getting mad earlier.
She apologized for getting angry earlier.
She told me that her sister was missing.
He said he saw Mariana getting in somebody's car.
She asked me if she could get in my car.
He told me to get in his car.
And you're ridin' around lookin' for your sister.
Then what happened? She started going on about how Kyle was innocent, and that he was framed by the police.
I got a call that said they found Mariana, so I asked him to take me back.
I told her that I was going to take her back.
But he just kept driving, like faster, and he was saying that Kyle was the killer, and that I had no right to be helping him, and he was waving - Troy: waving her hands in my face.
- (indistinct chatter) Insisting that Kyle didn't kill my grandmother, and accusing me of putting an innocent man away for life.
She just got so worked up.
And he wasn't watching the road, and we were drifting over the line, so - She grabbed the wheel.
- I grabbed the wheel.
It's like she was trying to run us off the road.
We were gonna run into an oncoming car, and then he grabbed the wheel back I had to yank the wheel so hard We hit another car.
What happened after you hit this other car? I was hurt and dazed, but I heard her get out and call 9-1-1.
So I started to see if the people in the other car were okay.
But he started coming after me, like he wanted to kill me.
I asked her to help the other people, but then she just took off.
I was bleeding, so I decided to drive myself to an urgent care.
So why do you think she ran? She knew she caused the accident.
Because he caused the accident.
She's at fault here.
Would you say this was your fault gettin' in his car? Yeah, that was my fault.
What are you doing here? I need to talk to you.
Hey, Foster, you got a minute? Yeah, what's up? I'll be in there.
Stef Adams Foster.
She got a kid named Callie? Yeah, why? Hey so what are you thinkin'? Well, now it sounds like a he said, she said to me.
Except she said's been in a group home and juvie twice.
She's been questioned about her involvement in a kidnapping, and she's got a recent harassment complaint.
Whereas Troy Johnson's squeaky clean.
Not even an outstanding parking ticket.
Hey you questioning Callie Adams Foster on a hit and run? Yeah, you know her? Yeah, her mom's my ex-wife.
My condolences.
- Aren't you homicide? - What's it to you? Her mom's a cop.
Does she know about this? I don't need permission to question a minor.
How about professional courtesy? That cuts both ways.
- Can I talk to her? - No.
Why don't you go do your job and let us do ours? If it were my case, I'd make a decision before Mama Bear gets here.
Well it's not your case.
Maybe you should go home Let me do my job.
Brandon's checkin' in.
Uh we need to talk about Brandon and Juilliard.
Yeah I know.
Uh I hate to say it, but I think he's gonna have to apply for student loans, hmm? (beeping) - Excuse me? - What is that? - What is that? - (beeping stops) It's uh, just a little air in the lines, nothing to worry about.
- You sure? - Yeah.
We need to check his catheter.
You all may wanna leave for this.
- Okay okay? - Yeah.
- Want some coffee? - Yes, please.
All right.
I'll be right back.
How was Nick texting you from juvie? I don't know.
I guess they sneak phones in there.
And you went to see him, again? Just once.
At the Boy's Correctional Facility, just through the fence.
I just don't understand why you were letting him think he was your boyfriend, I mean unless is that what you want? No.
I'm scared of him.
He's sick.
He kept telling me that he was gonna kill himself.
I didn't know what to do.
You could have talked to me.
You could have told me the truth.
I was afraid you'd break up with me.
After everything we've been through I love you so much, I I can't lose you again.
You're not gonna lose me.
Do you still love me? Of course I do.
Your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so, your eyes say so much to me Your eyes say so, your eyes say so much to me Mariana I want to.
Nobody knows I want you.
I've got intentions of gold With my plans Hey, sorry to keep you waitin', it's a busy night.
But brought you a snack and a soda.
Figured you must be hungry.
I'm okay.
You did the right thing by comin' in.
We really appreciate it.
Can I go home? Soon as you read this.
What is it? It's your statement, it's just a formality.
Soon as you sign it we're all done here.
Thanks.
I'll be right back.
Did the swelling go down, at all? No, not yet.
I'm gonna ask the doctor if I can order some steroids.
- Okay.
- Okay.
(monitor beeping) I'm here.
Lena: I'm here.
- Mama! - Jesus.
I'm here, Jesus.
Mama! Mama! (echoes) (laughter) Dude.
Oh.
Uh Wait, wait, wait.
What's what's going on? Sorry you're too dumb for me.
Mariana: Let me in, please, i i it's Mariana, Mariana Foster.
Mariana? Please let me in, it's Mariana.
Nurse: This is a code blue Mariana? Mariana: Please, let me in.
Mariana! Nurse: This is a code blue, this is not a drill.
Code blue, this is a code blue.
Deck the halls with boughs of holly (bell ringing) - Mariana? - Don't let him get you.
Who? Nick? (bell ringing) Toll the ancient yuletide carols - No.
- (gunshot) (screaming) (screaming) (indistinct singing continues faintly) What's goin' on? Uh, she's flushing the line, and the doctor ordered more steroids.
- Thank you.
- Okay.
Should we, uh are we worried? Should we be seeing some reduction in swelling by now? It takes time.
Every case is different.
Hopefully this should help.
Try not to worry.
Thank you.
(indistinct singing continues) Oh I read that you should play music for coma patients, and Jesus loves Christmas, so He also loves heavy metal, and I don't know how well that's gonna go over up here.
- It's silly.
- It's not silly, leave it.
La, la, la Sing fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la My phone.
(sighs) Mike's tryin' to get in touch with me.
La, la, la Sing fa, la, la, la Comes and it goes You'll probably never know It'll hit you from the back So what was goin' on at the Marina? Who were you runnin' from? Just some kids who were bein' jerks.
(music continues) I didn't see any kids.
Just tell me.
All right.
We snuck onto someone's boat, and then the guy got on, and almost sailed away with us.
(scoffs) Uh okay, so you were smoking weed, and trespassing.
Nice.
Okay pot's legal in a lotta states.
There's nothing wrong with it I mean, it's natural.
And a lotta people use it for, like medical problems.
Yeah adult people, Jude.
Y your brain is still developing.
Pot can screw it up.
Where'd you hear that? Look it up.
And don't be an idiot.
Some mistakes you can't take back.
Whatever.
And don't be an ass.
Come on.
Why don't ya, why don't ya, why don't ya why don't ya Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme all your lovin' Hey, you know, what happened to that nice kid that came to live with us? I miss him.
All your love And I just gotta say that I need ya And I just need to say I want ya Want ya, want ya, want ya, want ya Want ya, want ya (indistinct conversations) - Mike: Hey.
- Hey where's Callie? Room one.
Hey, hey, hey, wait, wait, wait, I'm her mother.
What's goin' on, why is she in cuffs? She's under arrest.
Vehicular assault and felony hit and run.
Okay, based on what? On her own statement.
You are aware that she's a minor, you questioned her without a parent present.
- She came in on her own.
- You know what? I'm sorry, I didn't want to bother you, - but I didn't think I was gonna be in trouble.
- It's okay, baby.
It's all right.
May I please talk with you in private? Please, she's not going anywhere.
- She's fine there.
- Don't move.
Okay.
Listen, I understand that Detective Gray had something to do with this? - I'm the arresting officer here.
- I understand that And I don't appreciate you comin' through here and tellin' me - how to do my job.
- I am not coming here to If you had your daughter at home You're a liar.
I know you killed your grandmother, - and we're gonna prove it.
- You're crazy.
- Come on - I'm telling you is that Hey she's crazy, okay? Keep her away from me, or I'm gonna file a restraining order.
- Keep moving - You know what Hey, hey, listen - Let's go.
- May I please Listen, may I please speak with my daughter - for one minute? - You can visit her at juvie.
Where are you taking her? Chula Vista.
- Come on! - That's high security, you don't need to take her there.
- She's got a bed.
- How long have you been Gray's bitch, huh? - You really need to step aside.
- Get off, Mike.
You need to let me talk to my daughter.
Listen you don't say a word to anybody.
You keep your head down, do as they tell you, and I am gonna come and get you outta there as soon as I can, - do you hear me? - I'm sorry.
It's okay, don't worry.
It's gonna be okay.
Okay? It's gonna be okay, baby.
It's okay, baby, don't worry.
I'm gonna get you.
Okay? I'm gonna get you.
(sighs) (indistinct chatter) (line trilling) (chatter continues) (gasps) I can't believe all this is happening.
Stef: I know.
I'm gonna read the statement Callie made to the police, make a few calls, see how fast we can get her in front of a judge.
How's Jesus doing? Uhh the last time they checked there was no change, so Hey, I'll be back as soon as I can.
I love you.
Yeah.
(sobbing) (drops phone) May I sit with you? - Are you injured or intoxicated? - No.
Not your first time.
No drug history, no tattoos.
(clears throat) Ears, no body piercings, and no gang affiliations, and I'm not suicidal.
Okay.
This is a Prison Rape Elimination Act questionnaire.
- Sit down.
- I've filled this out before.
Fill it out again.
(indistinct chatter) (rhythmic music begins) (indistinct singing) Hey Get them out of my head Now would it be just fair to (indistinct singing) (indistinct singing continues) Over there.
The bottom one.
Wake up's at six a.
m.
Don't get up unless you need to use the bathroom.
All these voices wound up inside of me (indistinct singing becomes fainter) (quiet chatter) Yo, who's this? They're really good kids.
They're just making such bad decisions.
Barbara: You know why? The brain has its most dramatic growth spurt after infancy and adolescence.
They have no impulse control.
It's like the terrible twos.
Except now they can drive.
(laughs) I I still feel like I should be doing better.
Listen I have another daughter.
She's a monster.
No, really.
Her sister's lying here fighting for her life, and where is she? But, my Melanie she has the biggest heart.
And she's always cared about helping other people.
I think you're raising five Melanies.
And it's something you should be proud of.
Because kind kids turn into kind adults.
And God knows this world could use a lot more of them.
Like you.
Oh, whoa, honey (laughs) I can be a real bitch.
No, seriously, I can.
(laughs) Is Melanie gonna be all right? Yeah, I think so.
Her husband's on the way.
He was in China, of all places.
But but I'll be here until he comes.
Remember you can handle anything in the moment.
It's our fear of what might happen that undoes us.
Good news.
The swelling's gone down.
You see? (sighs) (sighs) Oh, my.
Hey.
Come on.
- Good news, right? - Yeah.
They're removing the the bolt from his head, and they're taking him off the ventilator, so you know, I mean, all he has to do now is wake up.
Uh did Mariana already do the dishes? Oh.
No, I did them.
- Hello? - Hey.
Hey.
- You're up early.
- Wh what are you doing here? I, uh, thought I'd make breakfast before you guys have to go back to the hospital.
Hey, good morning.
Hey.
Um Did Callie spend the night at your place? 'Cause she never came home last night.
Uh No, Callie's not at my place.
Listen, guys, your moms wanted me to fill you in.
On what? What's goin' on, where is she? (sighs) Callie's in juvie.
The bolt is out, and he's breathing on his own.
The swelling has gone down significantly.
However, he is running a fever.
He's Why? Damage to areas of the brain such as the hypothalamus can disrupt the body's ability to manage its own autonomic functions.
We're going to put Jesus onto a cooling blanket and try to bring it down, before we consider other causes.
- Like what? - An infection in the brain.
Or pneumonia.
Okay, and and if that's what's going on, wha what happens? Then we would have to worry about any further brain damage.
We would give him a heavy load of antibiotics, and probably have to put him back in a coma.
But let's hope that this works.
"Let's hope that this works.
" You guys, I I feel like you're guessing - at what's wrong with him.
- We're not guessing.
But, that's all we hear around here with every case, is let's wait and see, you know, let's hope Let's give it some time - Stef.
- What? I'm sorry.
We we know you're doing everything you can.
Do we? Do we really know that they're doing everything they can? - Look I know that this is difficult - Because they don't seem to - How ? - Believe me.
Please.
Just try to hang in there.
- Okay.
- Thanks.
Try to hang in there.
(sighs) Hey, guys.
Hey.
Here's the, uh, clothes.
Oh thank you, sweetheart.
So, listen, guys, everything is, uh, everything's fine.
Jesus is running a little bit of a fever.
But they're workin' to get it down, and they're just hoping that he'll wake up soon.
That's good to hear.
That's great.
What's happening with Callie? Uh well, her detention hearing is this afternoon.
Uh, but we're hoping that the judge will let her come home pending a formal petition of charges.
Why didn't she tell us she was in trouble? Well, because, uh, she didn't know that even as a passenger, it's a crime to leave the scene of an accident.
But we're hoping the DA will take that into consideration and just drop this whole thing.
What was she doing in that guy's car to begin with? Uh, she was looking for you, love.
(steady beeping) (choir singing indistinctly) Moms Moms.
It's all your fault.
We wish it were you.
Little Mariana: Jesus.
Did you die? Are you dead? You were supposed to save me.
I tried.
I've always tried.
(baby crying) (crying) I tried.
He's after you.
Who is? Nick? Me.
You didn't save her.
You were right.
It's all my fault.
Nick wasn't at the festival.
What do you mean? When I called Jesus and said that Nick was after me, he wasn't.
I was just hallucinating.
Jesus called Nick to see if he was there.
That's how he knew where I was.
And why he cut off his ankle bracelet.
Jesus was just tryin' to help me, and now he's in a coma.
That was really messed up.
I'm still really messed up.
It's okay So you've been invited to the party tonight.
I'm not interested.
What, you don't get high? I get high, just going home today.
Oh well, good for you.
Better for me.
Okay, his core temperature is below normal, so we're gonna warm him up now and hopefully, his temperature won't spike again.
Uh when will he wake up? Anytime.
It could be minutes, hours, days.
But, keep talking to him.
Some people say they can hear you.
Hello, my name's, uh, Brandon Foster, uh, and I was accepted into your music program.
But I I made a mistake, and I was just wondering if I could talk to someone about my status to see if there's something I could do.
My spot's been taken.
Uh, and and there's noth No, I know, I I just thought th I understand.
Thank you.
(register beeping) Have a good afternoon.
(monitor beeping) What is that? It's his heart rate.
- Hey, baby, wake up, sweetheart, wake up.
- Jesus.
Can you hear us, baby? Jesus.
Stef: Jesus wake up, baby.
Stef: Baby, we're right here.
Wake up, honey.
Little Mariana: Come with me.
(voices whispering) Mama? This way.
We don't have to hurt anymore.
We can leave this world.
This way.
Stef: Jesus Stef: Jesus, baby, wake up.
Little Mariana: Come with me.
Take my hand.
Lena: Wake up, Jesus.
Wake up.
- Stef: Jesus, come back to us.
- Lena: Wake up.
Wake up.
We're here.
When you're ready.
- Please wake up, Jesus.
- Little Mariana: Let's go.
Stef: We love you, Jesus.
- Lena: Wake up, baby.
- Stef: Wake up, sweetheart.
- Stef: Wake up, Jesus.
- Lena: Wake up.
(monitor beeping) - (Lena gasps) - Jesu Hey, baby, hey! - Hey, baby.
It's okay.
- Don't be scared, don't be scared, you're safe.
We're here.
We got you.
We're right here.
Hi, baby.
(incoherent mumbling) Shh, shh, shh.
- It's okay.
- (mumbling continues) Okay, okay.
Just relax, okay? No more talking.
- No more talking.
- Can we get someone in here, please? It's all right It's all right It's all right Here you go.
Oh, thanks.
It's all right It's all right It's all right It's all right (singing continues indistinctly) Someone had a long nap, huh? Okay, deep breath.
Excuse me are you Melanie's husband? Yes.
Are you a friend of hers? No, my, uh, my son is next door.
How is she, your wife? Better.
They say she's gonna make it.
I'm so glad.
- Your son? - Yes, he is, uh, awake.
Is your mother-in-law still here? I wanna thank her.
She really helped me get through a rough night.
My mother-in-law? Yes, um I just realized she never told me her name.
She said she was Melanie's mother? Yes.
She told me that you were traveling back from China? That's right.
But, uh Melanie's mother passed away a few years ago.
Hey um, excuse me.
I'm headed to Callie's hearing.
- Wish me luck.
- Good luck.
- Take care of our boy.
- Yeah.
It's all right It's all right All right, so (indistinct chatter) Hey.
Hey, Stef.
Okay, so I talked to Callie, got a general picture of what happened.
- Okay, and you also read her police statement.
- Yes.
Yeah, I did.
Okay, I don't see how that incriminates her.
-Well, she admitted fault.
- Yeah, for getting in the car with Troy Johnson, not for causing the accident.
That's how you and I read it.
But any admission of guilt is open to manipulation in court.
Just listen, we're up first.
For now, let's just get her home.
- Okay, thank you.
- Yeah.
All rise for the Honorable James Eskin.
The court calls Callie Adams Foster.
Okay, young lady.
I see that you've been before the court a few times.
But let me refresh your memory.
I'm to assume that the petition against you is true, and determine the best place for you to reside while awaiting your jurisdictional hearing.
Do you understand? Yes, sir.
Your Honor, I'm representing Callie.
- Uh, I'd first like to just - Let me save your breath and the court's time.
You're going to argue that Ms.
Adams Foster has a stable, loving family.
Her mom's a cop etcetera, etcetera.
And this guy, you're gonna argue that she's a juvie frequent flyer, and that because she ran away from this very stable, loving family once before, she's a flight risk.
Does that about cover it? Yes, Your Honor.
- That was before she was adopted - Kate, like I said I have read her files.
Now, I find the charges against Ms.
Adams Foster dubious, but we can't deny that she's run before.
So, she'll await the next hearing in juvie.
- Anything else? - Yes, Your Honor.
Prior to a jurisdictional hearing, we'd like to call a fitness hearing.
Your Honor They are within their right to do so.
Schedule that with the registrar.
Next case.
What's a fitness hearing? It means they wanna try you as an adult.
Okay, don't worry, don't worry.
I love you, honey.
