The Outpost (2018) s02e13 Episode Script

This Is Our Outpost

TALON: My name is Talon.
I'm the last Blackblood, or so I've been told.
I escaped when Everit Dred killed all my people.
I cut off the points of my ears to hide in plain sight.
A tiny creature lives inside me, passed to me by my dying mother.
It gives me the power to open portals to another world and summon powerful demons called Lu-Qiri.
But I can only summon them when I have their names, something that's proving to be a challenge.
The Prime Order wants me dead, but I've found sanctuary at the farthest edge of the Realm in a place known as the Outpost.
MISTRESS: Previously on "The Outpost" Sister! Nothing to say to your long lost baby brother? How dare you show your face in here, traitor! To warn you.
The Prime Order has a new weapon, a terrible thing that tore an entire building apart.
The love of your life is, in fact, your sister! - Ugh! - Is that Captain Calkussar? Boy, I don't know who you are, but you're not the son of Ranulf.
Take this impostor to our smallest cell.
- Your Kinj doesn't work on me.
- Blackblood.
Does it ever weigh on you that you've put your most useful friends behind bars? It weighs on me most heavily.
You have seen someone like me, haven't you? With this mark.
ZED: The Black Fist are not your people.
- (GASPS) - I'm so sorry, Holy One.
You must transfer.
- TALON: It doesn't make any sense.
- It's Sana.
And she's got his Kinj.
(MUSIC PLAYING) - Your Majesty.
- Marshal.
Unlock these cages and leave us.
MARSHAL: But these are dangerous criminals, Your Majesty.
- Do as I say, Marshal.
- Aye.
So my talk worked.
I gave the Queen a talking-to.
- She listens to me.
- Yes, Janzo, your words had great impact.
But, well, history had a greater one.
- You seem different.
- Yeah.
Yeah, I noticed that, too.
It's like someone just pulled a stick out of you ass.
May I remind you that you're talking to the Queen? So, just to be clear, I'm free to go? Elinor, at a time when this Outpost was at its most dire, - you helped me save it.
- Yeah, I did, didn't I? Yes, and for that, I am forever in your debt.
So I get my gold back, as well? No, no.
Not that in your debt.
That was ill-gotten money, and you turned many people into Plaguelings.
- Yeah, but Janzo cured them.
- That he did.
And for that, I will forever be in his debt.
Fine.
Fine.
All right, then.
I'll just continue on being one of your poor peasants, shall I? You always have the Nightshade, Mum.
Janzo, you have done so much for me and for this Outpost, and I just wanted you to know that I am truly You don't need to apologize.
You were just doing what you thought was queenly.
I'm just glad to have my old friend Gwynn back and not, um, Queen Rosmund.
Janzo.
Naya is free to go as well, isn't she? She is.
And then you two can be together.
Right.
Well, um, if you will please excuse me, I'm going to get back to work and, um, then I will be doing some more research on my explosive devices.
It's a long story, miss.
Your Majesty, I deserve to be in here.
You did the Prime Order's bidding only to save your family.
What you deserve are my condolences for your loss.
To be honest, if I were in your shoes, I might have done the same thing.
So, you forgive me? I'm not sure I can.
But coming back to the Outpost to warn us about the Prime Order and their weapons was a very brave thing.
You're free to remain at the Outpost if you wish.
It would be nice to see your face from time to time.
- Marshal? - Yes, Your Majesty? - Where's Alt uh, Sam? - Who? The impostor that posed as my brother.
First I've heard of him, Your Majesty.
Was there an execution this morning? - Not that I'm aware of.
- Thank you, Marshal.
- I need you to find Sam.
- What do you mean? When I freed the other prisoners, he wasn't there.
- He wasn't in the prison? - No.
Well, maybe they executed him already.
- I hope not.
- Why? You're not planning on freeing him, too, are you? He tried to take your throne.
He wasn't after the throne.
He was after gold.
- Oh, and that's better? - Well, it's not treason.
But Naya was treason.
I suppose you don't approve of her release.
I believe setting her free sets a dangerous precedent.
You told me you wanted me to be Queen because I'm fair and honorable, so trust in my decision and find Sam for me, please.
(BELL RINGING) Commander Spears returns! - What's wrong? - The Prime Order army.
Only a day's march from here.
5,000 armored men.
They outnumber us five to one.
Well, the Outpost has never stood against so many.
That's true, but these walls have also never been breached.
- Yeah, that's the tricky part.
- What do you mean? Naya returned from the Capital with a warning.
Apparently, the Prime Order have a secret weapon that can blow our walls aside as if they were nothing more than straw.
We saw and heard something in the Capital.
Even from far away, the ground was shaking.
(THEME MUSIC PLAYING) - Captain Calkussar.
- Garret.
Didn't know you were here.
I wish it were under happier circumstances.
Oh, you don't know the half of it.
It's good to see another friendly face.
There is something else.
The Prime Order army is being led by Sana.
She's now One of The Three.
All the better.
When we defeat them, people will realize that The Three aren't all-powerful.
She'll be difficult to reach.
Sana has the power to cause tremendous pain.
It was used on me.
We saw her kill 12 of her own soldiers.
Are you saying she can kill our troops just by thinking about it? There seem to be limits to the power.
I suspect she'll use it only to defend herself.
And if she does, I can stop her.
I'm immune to her Kinj.
- We should leave the Outpost.
- I'm sorry? - We'll go to my stronghold.
- You want to evacuate? - No.
- Let them have it.
We'll regroup and live to fight another day.
Tobin, this Outpost is not only my home, but it's strategically important for the success of my kingdom.
We own the only mines that produce the ore we need for our weapons.
A queen that abandons that isn't a queen at all.
I will stand with my soldiers or I will die trying.
Now I wish to speak with my people.
The situation is dire.
A very large Prime Order army are only a day's march away.
They intend to kill me and destroy this Outpost, but I will not let you die on my behalf.
Lord Aegisford has graciously offered his keep as refuge where you may take shelter.
The evacuation convoy will leave in exactly two hours.
(MURMURING) MAN: What about you, Your Majesty? This is our home.
Most of you were born here, and I was raised here myself.
My army and I will stay here and protect this place.
It will be a long and bloody battle, but I am confident that we will prevail, and you will be able to return to the place that you call home.
(MURMURING) MAN: Long live the Queen! ALL: Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen! - Munt? - Janzo! Oh, Janzo.
What are you doing back? I missed my family.
You, Mum, Brogan.
Hi, Naya.
Naya! I just realized you might be my sister-in-law one day.
- Munt, Munt, Munt - Sorry to embarrass you, Janzo, but let's face it, you'll never do better than Naya.
- She is beautiful, kind.
- Munt.
- She likes you, which is something.
- Munt.
Munt! - Most women don't like you.
- She's my sister.
No, no, no, no.
She'll be my sister.
- Your wife.
- No, no, no.
She's my sister, Munt.
As in my actual sister, the one that Mother gave up.
Wait, wait, wait.
If she's your sister and you're my brother, then she's my sister.
Oh! Naya! (CHUCKLES) I've always wanted a sister! Munt! Munt, drop her.
Put her down! Mum! Mum! Ah! Get in here.
We got some planning to do.
- Bye, sister.
- Naya.
- You have to leave.
- I don't want to go.
Naya, you're a caregiver, and you're a really good one as well, but Gwynn doesn't want you caring for her anymore.
But you see? These children and elderly, soon they're not going to have a home.
You need to use your skills to give them some shelter to help them.
Come with me.
I can't.
My family are all here.
- I am your family.
- I know.
And I'm going to see you again very soon, I promise, okay? Stop.
This place is gonna be sacked.
And we're all gonna die.
So we're gonna die? - Oh, no.
- I don't understand.
Gwynn took all my gold, and we're gonna take it back.
- Where's Janzo? - Oh, nothing! Janzo! Well, I see trouble still follows you wherever you go.
- Story of my life.
- Munt! - Gods.
- I missed you.
There's too much hugging in this joint! Guess that's because people think they're all gonna die.
Mm, what a nice thought, Mother.
- My favorite human.
- My favorite Blackblood.
Let me make you one of my special brews, okay? Okay.
Make me one of those as well, would you? Don't you have more important things to be doing? My generals are drawing up a plan, so I thought while I wait, I'd come and talk with my friends.
- She's Gwynn now, not Rosmund.
- Huh? I hope you found what you were looking for out there with Zed.
We found it, all right.
I'm glad.
Where is he? He's gone.
I sent him back.
- What? Why? - He betrayed me.
Talon, I'm so sorry.
Just when I started to trust him.
I think maybe I'd even started to have feelings for him.
You did? Right.
Girl talk.
I'll just be over here, wallowing in my own self pity.
Even slept with the bastard.
Sorry.
Well, here's to never seeing him again.
Cheers to that.
Well, it's good to have you back, Talon.
Janzo, have you made any progress on the explosive device? No, not yet.
But, um, in doing some research, I did discover something that you may be able to use in your forthcoming battles.
I was just down there in my lab working away oh, by the way, can you please get rid of that prisoner that's down there? - He's really quite annoying.
- Prisoner? Hmm, yes.
You remember that cretin who convinced you to put me in jail in the first place? And then you just popped him in one of my Plagueling cages in the lab.
They said there was no more room in the jail.
I thought you were dead.
I thought I would be by now.
Well, there's been a lot going on.
They must have forgotten about you, fortunately.
Did you change your mind? What went wrong with you, Sammy? Being dirt poor is what went wrong with me.
I've been begging and stealing my entire life since you royals abandoned me.
We didn't abandon you.
My family were murdered.
Mine, too, Rozie.
They killed all the servants.
Killed my mother right in front of me.
Gods, Sammy.
I'm sorry.
General Calkussar never told me any of that.
Of course not.
You were whisked away to a life of luxury, safe and sound here, while the rest of us had to suffer.
Well, why didn't you just come and tell me all this? - I would have taken you in.
- So you said.
I was in love with you, you know? Well, I mean, as much as an eight-year-old can be.
Utterly smitten with my best friend's older sister.
It is kind of ironic, isn't it? If I had just done the right thing for once, we'd be friends again.
So why didn't you? I guess I didn't expect you to be so decent.
I wish I had come to you as you said, rekindled our friendship and served you rather than try to steal from you.
If only I could trust that you really mean that.
I don't blame you for not.
- Free him.
- What? We're evacuating the civilians due to the imminent attack.
I can't let you die here at the hands of the Prime Order.
- You should go.
- No.
I'm staying here.
I've learned to fight just to stay alive.
Give me a sword and I'll fight for you.
(MUSIC PLAYING) Send the first regiment.
Kill everyone who's there.
The Holy One's plan was to take the device inside and destroy everything.
I am the Holy One now, general.
This is a valuable Outpost.
It protects and mines valuable ore.
If we can take the Outpost intact, we should.
- The device is a final option.
- Yes, Holy One.
We've been at this all night, Your Majesty.
It's the best plan we've been able to come up with.
Gentlemen, I'm new at this, but this plan will surely fail, will it not? TOBIN: It'll hold them off for awhile.
It'll simply prolong the inevitable.
- Which is what? - The destruction of this Outpost, and more importantly, your death.
TOBIN: Well, I haven't heard a better plan from you.
Well, I wish I had one, Base Commander.
There must be something we can do.
TALON: There is one thing you're not using.
What? No.
No, Talon, we will not summon a demon.
It risks losing everything we fight for.
Perhaps we should reconsider.
Even a handful of those things I'm sorry, but after last time, after that demon held me hostage, it is clear to me that those creatures are dangerous.
Are you even sure you can control them, Talon? No, but the Blackbloods they belong to can.
I've met exactly three Blackbloods.
You, who I trust with my life; Rebb, who tried to kill us both; and Zed, who betrayed you.
What if we get one like that and not one like you? - How do we trust them? - We can't.
She's right.
But, Rosmund, we need them.
They could help us destroy our enemies.
Yes, and then become the enemy.
Then there's only one thing left to do.
We must evacuate, let the Prime Order arrive to an empty Outpost.
I concur with Lord Aegisford.
It's the only way to foil their plan.
Not the only way.
Tobin's given me an idea.
If that's all of them, Rosmund's plan might actually work.
If that's all of them? That's a lot of bloody soldiers.
(MUSIC PLAYING) The false queen.
I can only assume this is your surrender.
I'm going to give you one last chance.
Chance for what? To drop your weapons and join me.
Kill her and bring me her body.
Suit yourself.
It's an ambush! Now! (ALL SHOUTING) (SHOUTING) GWYNN: Go! Go! Towards the gate! Move back! Talon! (SHOUTS) (SCREAMING) Help! Janzo! Sorry! All right, we make our move.
Push back! Sam! At least you weren't lying about being a good fighter.
You're not so bad yourself.
For a moment there, I thought we were both going to die.
Neither of us are going to die.
Well, if I do, at least I can die without owing you anything.
This makes us even.
I guess it does.
Help me get him to shelter.
Okay, this should be enough to get us started at Aegisford Keep.
I'm confused.
I thought you were loyal to the Queen.
So why are we stealing her gold? She's as good as dead.
Might as well take what's mine.
(SCREAMING) No.
No! (GRUNTING) - Janzo! - Mum! - Janzo! - No! Don't! That's my boy! No! No! Mum! You just saved my life.
The one time I do something selfless, this is what I get.
Don't speak.
I'm gonna help you.
I'm gonna fix you, I promise.
She's gonna be all right, ain't she, Janzo? Boys, you promise me something.
You look after each other, all right? Shh.
You're going to be all right.
You're going to be all right, Mum.
Janzo! Janzo! The tunnel goes around in the field all the way.
What? What do you mean? What did you say? - What did you say? - Mum? Mum.
Mum! Munt.
Munt? (MEN SHOUTING) Munt! Munt! (SCREAMING) (GRUNTING) (SCREAMING) Come on! Mum! Looks like your ambush plan worked.
We've won the battle.
That doesn't mean we won the war.
What aren't her people attacking? There's not that many of them left.
They still have a very large explosive device out there.
And what do we do about that? There's only one way to deal with it.
BOTH: I go detonate it.
How? Neither of you will get anywhere near to it.
- I have no idea.
- JANZO: I do.
You know, at first, I didn't understand what she was saying because, well, my mind wasn't focused on what she said.
But then, um but then I realized Janzo, who? Mother.
As mother was dying The Mistress is dead? Janzo, I'm so sorry for your loss.
My mother's going to die a hero.
In fact, do you know what? She already is a hero because she saved my life.
Now she might have just saved the entire Outpost.
Mother reminded me that the tunnels go in every direction beyond the Outpost walls.
Including under the battlefield.
All the way up until the Prime Order army.
This cluster over here should be where the Prime Order are.
Janzo, can you figure out which tunnel - gets me closest to the command tent? - Within a few feet.
It's simple geometry.
All you have to do is draw a triangle from here Wait, Janzo, where do the exits come out? There's no exit.
There's only the main entrance inside the Outpost walls.
And then, obviously, there's the secret one out the back, but that just leads to Greyskin territory.
Then what good is it to us? How do they surface? I have made a slightly larger version of one of my little incendiary devices.
We should be able to use this to blast our way out.
Garrett, you and I both know I have to be the one to do this.
- I'm immune to her Kinj.
- You need to be here to protect Gwynn in case I fail.
Well, why can't you be here to protect her? Because you fight like three of me.
I'd thank you for the compliment if it wasn't such crap.
You just want revenge on Sana.
Garrett, I spent my whole adult life getting revenge.
So believe me when I tell you it doesn't fill the hole inside.
When I killed the last of the Bones, - I still felt empty.
- So what helped? You, Gwynn, Janzo, this Outpost.
You gave me a family.
You gave me something much more valuable to fight for than revenge.
Then you should stay here, defend the Outpost no matter the cost.
Keep Gwynn safe.
SANA: They should be here by now.
They will arrive at any moment, Holy One.
The moment they get here, order the attack.
Yes, Holy One.
Still no movement.
They're definitely waiting for something.
(MUSIC PLAYING) They brought another army.
By all the holy gods, we're doomed.
CALKUSSAR: Two more armies.
We don't have enough men to fight this battle.
Too many are already dead! (BELL RINGING) Seal the gates! Sir, we lost the gatehouse! What are you doing? Close that gate! Your Majesty, we've lost the gatehouse.
You must fall back to the keep.
Everyone's going to die.
Get her to the sewers.
Hide her.
No, no.
I'll stay with my men.
There's nothing anyone else can do.
It's over, Gwynn.
You need to leave the Outpost.
I won't.
We can hold the keep.
The keep will not hold for long.
We're all going to die.
The only thing we might be able to deny them is your death.
Then let's make it a glorious one.
Fall back to the keep! Fall back to the keep! A Blackblood will summon the slayers of men.
(SPEAKING BLACKBLOOD) (GROWLING) Hell of a time to call me back.
Use your Kinj.
Make them stop.
It doesn't work that way.
I can only use it on one at a time, and from close range.
Well, then start calling names.
We need help.
Zed! (SPEAKING BLACKBLOOD) Vikka, go! (SPEAKING BLACKBLOOD) (SPEAKING BLACKBLOOD) This way.
I don't understand.
Holy One, what happened? The Blackblood fulfilled the prophecy.
All right, pick me up.
- What? - Come on.
(GRUNTS, SHRIEKS) - Stop moving! - You're the one moving! I move, you stay still.
One little slip and we both go boom.
A bit higher! Thank you.
Put me down.
Put me down.
- Now, Garret, run! - What? Run! (MUFFLED EXPLOSION) Garrett, my love.
Have you come to see your people's end? Sana.
I found you.
I was so worried.
I missed your touch.
You can stop.
I know you have left us.
- You failed.
- If you know that, then why haven't you used that thing in your head on me? How can I punish the one that I love? Besides, it's already gone.
I sent it back to the Council of The Three where it belongs.
You cannot kill me, Garrett.
You belong to me.
You are mine.
Forever.
(BLADE SLICES) You made me kill my own father.
(GRUNTS) MAN: There he is! Get him, quick! (COUGHING) Janzo? Janzo? Janzo? - Janzo! - (WHEEZING) (COUGHING) Garrett, you're alive.
Yeah.
Made it back down just in time.
(BOTH GRUNTING) - How many people did we lose? - Half.
Would have been all of us were it not for the demons and Blackbloods.
I should have let Talon summon them sooner.
- Garrett.
- Gwynn.
Good to see you alive, Garrett.
Wait, wait.
Lord Aegisford, please, you should hear this as well.
Are you all right, Garrett? Physically, I'll heal.
But in here? I thought that killing the people who did this to me would make me feel better.
- And it didn't? - Not even a little.
I'm angry, and I'm worried that I always will be.
I'm sorry, your Grace, but you have to accept the fact that I am no longer the man that you once loved.
I'm sure he's in there somewhere.
No.
No, and even if you would have me, I am not fit to be with a queen, at least not in the way we used to be.
But Lord Aegisford Lord Aegisford is a good man, and I wish you both nothing but happiness.
Queen Rosmund, I want you to know that I remain pledged to the crown, and I will fight for you for as long as we both shall live.
Your Grace.
Gather the others.
We should welcome Talon's people.
Zed, I've come to welcome you to my Outpost.
Your Majesty, I'm afraid it's the other way around.
- What are you talking about? - (GROWLING) Why did you bring the Black Fist through? We're all Blackbloods.
Talon, you have a decision to make.
Them or us.
Why can't it be both? Has it ever occurred to you why you feel so at home here? It's because hundreds of years ago, we built this place - the Blackbloods.
- That's not true.
Everyone knows it was humans who built the Outpost.
The victor writes the history books, Baron Aegisford.
So what are you saying? It's quite simple, really.
I'm saying you're all our prisoners.
And from this point forwards, this is our Outpost.
