The Voice US (2011) s09e13 Episode Script

The Knockouts, Part 3

Last week on "the voice," the artists' fight to make it to the live shows What is happening?! Began.
Lonely water lt's amazing to see in the knockouts how people just blossom.
As I set fire Holy moly! To the rain I want a Sunday kind of love We're starting to see some real stars Dreaming even if it breaks your heart And it's only gonna make the lives that much more exhilarating.
It's Barrett.
Winners were picked.
I'm going to the live playoffs! And a deserving few There it is! Got a second chance.
A knockout steal! Blake, Gwen, and Adam Thank God.
Each used their only steals, fortifying their teams.
That's what I'm talking about! I'm the only coach with a steal left.
I'm waiting for something special.
Tonight, the remaining artists perform for the final spots in next week's live playoffs.
I'm gonna have to bring my "a" game and nail every single second of this song.
Pay me what you owe me To help prepare them, our coaches recruited grammy award-winning superstar rihanna.
Da-da-da-da, rihanna's here can I hug you? Rihanna is incredible.
She's literally so passionate and genuine towards all of the artists.
Hey, rihanna! She's been amazing.
That is the sweet spot of your voice.
Stretch the ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh To secure their spots, the artists will have to deliver the performances of their lives.
Bam! Yes! Jesus, take the wheel wow.
I dare you to move whoa! I dare you to move yeah yeah oh I got to go I got to go whoo! This is the knockout round.
You came out swinging, and you did what you had to do.
You just crushed this.
She parted my hair.
You should be on the show, but so should you.
And with one steal remaining, there is no room for error.
We've got that steal! Whoa! It's "go live or go home.
" That worked out good.
Yo, it worked out great.
The final knockouts start right now! We're winding it down here.
I know, man.
How lucky are we, man? Like, we share the same ambitions as the people that we guide and coach.
I feel like this might be my favorite thing I've ever done.
Whoa.
Is that weird? No, it's awesome.
No, I told you that.
You told me that.
You're like, "what am I getting myself into?" Yeah.
And I was like, "trust me, you are gonna love it so much.
" And I'm so happy that, like, that's what's happening.
As our coaches head to their chairs at universal studios Hollywood, let's meet Adam's final knockout pair.
James and shelby My two country singers.
I want one person to fill this slot at this point.
It's time to see these guys take the gloves off.
You look right in that chair.
I'm just saying.
Rihanna is, like, an incredible coach.
I've worked with her, and I've performed with her a bunch of times, and rihanna is fire.
Yeah! Hey, shelby.
Oh, my God.
She said my name.
You look beautiful.
Thank you.
I was just in complete awe.
It's really cool that I get to learn from someone as huge as rihanna.
Are you singing country music today? I am.
What? "Jesus, take the wheel," by Carrie Underwood.
Ooh.
Big song.
This is the first country song I've sang on the show.
Before coming on "the voice," I was just a high-school student singing at a bowling alley in my small town.
To be here is so surreal.
Going into blinds, I thought that if Blake Shelton turned, I was going to pick him.
I can't look at the stars I didn't expect to get four chairs.
Your song choice suggests that you are not strictly a country artist.
I pick Adam.
Having Adam as a coach is gonna me more of an outlet to experience other things.
Only thing that can get in your way is gonna be This.
Adam is an awesome coach.
Shelby, thank you for coming out here and sassing it up and believing in yourself.
I love to see that from you.
Shelby! It's so crazy and more exciting than I could have ever imagined.
Jesus, take the wheel this is a pretty personal song.
I sang it for my third-grade talent show.
I lost.
Oh, I'm letting go so I think this is a chance to redeem myself and showcase my vocal range.
Holy smokes, that freaking voice! Shelby has such a perfect voice and and so much skill.
I was very impressed.
Can you try this for the last note, before you slow down into the "Jesus, take the wheel" at the end? Jesus, take the wheel and this road I'm I don't know what I'm doing.
I'm not even hearing all that.
You're so good that, literally, your success on the show and beyond has everything to do with how much you believe it can happen.
Take the nerves, put it all into getting lost in my performance.
That's the star power.
That's what it feels like.
It's twinkling stars in your stomach.
You got it.
Shelby's biggest opponent on "the voice" is shelby, and I'm trying to make her realize that.
Instead of going, rifting right away, stretch the ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh yes.
That's my favorite part of your voice, so And this road I'm o-o-o-on bam! Yes! J-just like that! I've always had a hard time believing that I am good enough.
So to have rihanna and Adam, like, be so supportive, it's really reassuring.
Jesus, take the wheel ahh! I love her! No, I love you.
Group hug.
Group hug.
Before "the voice," I was an e.
M.
T.
, and I gave that up to be a full-time musician.
Someone sent me you singing on YouTube, and I was like, "this guy is fantastic.
" I was taking a huge risk, because I have four boys that are depending on me to provide.
Let her cry in the blinds, I got four chairs to turn.
I do believe that you are better than the best country singers on this show right now.
And you're a natural.
Country music is my life.
It appears to be your life, too, man.
Fitting in is boring for anyone that wants to be extraordinary.
I'm gonna go with Adam.
Oh! I'd like to stay on team Adam, because it will give me some room to do something that I'm not totally comfortable with It's an all-out, drag-out, rock 'n' roll song.
And I need to see more.
And that's exciting to me.
You don't have to throw back your pretty pink lemonade shooter and lean a little closer for my knockout song, I picked "sure be cool if you did" by Blake Shelton.
Knowing that he's gonna be sitting right in front of me, it's a little nerve-wracking, but I'm super excited about showcasing my country side.
But it'd sure be cool if you did whoo! He can hit these deep, low notes that vibrate, and country is really, really a-a great genre for his voice.
That was ridiculously amazing.
That was, like, flawless.
Musically, it doesn't need to change at all.
But the physical attitude Loosen up and just go.
Cool.
You're not an old man.
I want you to feel sexy.
I want you to feel your swagger, because right now, I'm missing that, like, spark.
And don't be scared to give them some love over here, and in the middle.
Don't don't hide.
Find someone out there and sing to them a little bit, because that That translates the most.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
It's game time now.
For some reason, my mind and my body have trouble communicating.
But that's just something that I'm just gonna have to get used to doing.
Whoa, you don't have to throw back your James's voice is really, really smooth.
If James wants to win the knockouts, he needs to let loose Wow.
And not be so guarded when he's up there.
So good.
Better than Blake Shelton.
That was awesome.
If I can't show Adam that I'm confident onstage and that I believe in myself, there's a great possibility that he could send me home.
I do feel some pressure.
I really want to win this knockout.
I'm just gonna go out there and do my song really well.
That's my goal.
That's what I'm trying to focus on.
Singing "Jesus, take the wheel," please welcome shelby brown.
She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati on a snow-white Christmas Eve going home to see her mama and her daddy with her baby in the backseat 50 Miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline it'd been a long, hard year so, Jesus, take the wheel take it from my hands I can't do this on my own I'm letting go so give me one more chance save me from this road I'm on oh, Jesus, take the whe-e-e-e-el wow.
Oh, I'm letting go so give me one more chance save me from this road I'm on Jesus, take the wheel oh, take it, take it from me Wow.
Yeah! And now, with "sure be cool if you did," here is James dupré.
I was gonna keep it real, like, chill like, only have a drink or two but it turned into a party when I started talking to you and now you're standing in the neon looking like a high I want to be on baby, it's your call no pressure at all you don't have to throw back your pretty pink lemonade shooter and lean a little closer you don't have to keep on smiling that smile that's driving me wild and when the night is almost over meet me in the middle of a moonlit Chevy bench seat and do a little bit of country song hanging-on you don't have to keep me falling like this but it'd sure be cool if you did it'd sure be cool if you did ohh Yeah! Good song choice! Big hand for James and shelby, everybody.
Whoo! Nice job, both of you.
What seemed like a team Blake knockout was not.
It was team Adam.
Blake, let's start with you.
You're right.
That was so weird to see country artists singing those songs, and it wasn't And it wasn't my group.
It's not right.
It feels so right.
Well, let me start with James, because he has such awesome taste in song selection.
True.
That's the one thing I didn't love about it is that, you know That's a pretty laid-back song, honestly, for for a knockout round, and you make it seem a lot easier than it is for me to sing it.
Listening to you sing it, it's like, "man, that dude just sails right through it, you know?" Your pitch was perfect.
And, shelby, I think I would have liked you better had you done one of my songs, too, but But I understand it's weird.
No, you definitely picked a tough one, you know, and that's the one thing I'll say, James, is shelby swung for the fence with that particular song choice.
Your big notes, the "Jesus, take the wheel," all that stuff, was so good.
But your verses and and your softer parts of your voice, you were singing just a little bit sharp.
But overall, I thought that was pretty even.
I'm not helping you, buddy.
You wanted country artists Figure it out.
Gwen? Blake, I didn't hear the tuning thing.
I felt like you had so much control.
And then when you took that chorus up there, I just kept going, "17?!" It was, like, mind-blowing to me.
Thank you.
James, I don't understand how you could possibly have that many kids sitting there so well-behaved.
Like, mine don't do that.
To me, you're like this perfect kind of country artist.
You seem, like, so in control onstage.
That's really a gift.
Especially in front of Blake.
Pharrell.
James, I felt like you sang that song flawlessly.
Your vibrato was just crazy, how you just hold it effortlessly.
I'm like, "gosh, man.
Does the guy breathe?" Shelby, when it came to the chorus, you were swinging your sword and just chopping heads off.
You can't ignore the fight that you had in you.
The knockouts this year are really crazy.
Don't you guys think? Thank you, coaches.
Some nice thoughts, but obviously, Adam, it all comes down to you.
I heard a nervous 17-year-old girl in the beginning of the song, but I think you did a tremendous job.
And all of us were floored.
And I had goose bumps.
So couldn't have crushed it any more.
Thank you.
James, because you're so damn good, it's hard sometimes for you to convey the emotion that I know you have.
Like Blake said, you know, he's sitting and watching you Someone sing his song with more ease than even he can imagine himself singing it.
The truth of the matter is, I think that shelby had this dramatic flair to her song that might have helped her.
This is obviously a really tough decision, but I got to make a choice.
Adam, who's the winner of this knockout? The winner of this knockout Is shelby.
Shelby is gonna move on to the live playoffs and represent team Adam.
I am in complete, like, awe right now.
Thank you.
I'm so thankful that Adam chose to keep me here, and that I'm moving on to live playoffs.
I can't wait.
I can't wait.
James, anything you want to say to Adam? It's just been a huge honor, and and, you know, my life will never be the same.
Right on, man.
A big hand for James dupré, everybody.
James did a great job.
You know, it takes a lot of guts to sing a coach's song in front of them.
Good luck to you, brother.
Thank you.
Having said all that, I already used my steal.
James is literally perfect, but I liked shelby's vulnerability.
I was amazed at what she was doing in her high register.
For shelby, the sky's the limit.
I saw you just immediately start crying.
She amazes me She amazes me, too.
Because she has just blossomed, you know? Well, she's gonna keep doing it, too.
So, give me a hug, darling.
Thank you.
I'm so proud of you.
Here's Adam's locked live playoff team.
The team I'm taking to the live playoffs is the best team right now.
My team is all over the place.
Keith is badass.
I love when someone gets out there and unabashedly sings rock 'n' roll songs.
Shelby's my country artist, and I think she could actually win this whole thing.
Jordan Smith is otherworldly in his abilities to touch people with his voice.
Blaine is the purest performer we've had so far on this show.
Amy, man, I can't believe I got her.
Team Adam is fierce, unbeatable.
Hi, Evan.
How are you? Still to come So, you've heard of rihanna? Have I heard of her?! Rihanna helps the artists give everything they've got Yes! Stand by me whoo! Got to be with him For one of the last spots in the live playoffs.
I won't keep it round.
You to just desert me - I can't give you - I was so taken in.
I was brought to tears.
And later We've got that steal! Pharrell uses the final steal.
With no time to spare, pharrell is in! This is "the voice" Welcome back to the final night of the knockouts.
All right, let's bring out two artists now, going head-to-head, from team pharrell! What?! Oh, my God.
I love this guy.
We called it.
Let's take a look at how these two match up.
I paired mark and siahna together.
They both naturally gravitate toward classic songs.
So it's really about who could let the old soul out.
When I saw rihanna, I had to get myself together and walk back in, because she's literally one of our biggest superstars.
Oh, my lord.
Hey, rihanna.
How you doing? Good to see you.
I'm sorry.
If you want the good light, that's the spot, right here.
Oh, in other words, "get away from me.
" Okay.
Wait.
I'm sorry.
Dude, I love you already.
Being a pastor's kid and trying to be an R&B singer was definitely rough.
No then I came to "the voice.
" Four chairs turned around What?! And my life has changed.
Those runs were crazy.
I'd be honored to have you on my team.
I pick pharrell! Working with pharrell is incredible.
There's one run that you didn't do in your second verse.
Yes.
There you go.
I'll be there on the double just send for me oh, ohh oh, baby mark.
Mark hood! I learned a lot about myself and what I can do as a vocalist.
What are you gonna sing today? "Stand by me," by Ben e.
King.
Love this song, by the way.
It's definitely one of my favorite classic R&B soul songs.
I love the message of it, but I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm very, very nervous about this one.
I'm very used to theatrics, but this song is way different.
It's smaller, and to scale it down, the non-dramatic mark kind of scares me.
Stand by me oh, oh, stand by me mark! I felt like your approach contemporized the song.
There's no R&B artists that have songs out where they're doing that kind of stuff effortlessly.
There's not another you in this competition.
Wow.
In the beginning, I would say dial it back physically, and save the dramatics for later, so people at home can be like, "ooh!" Build up to the showmanship.
You don't have to come in, chopping heads off.
Okay.
Mark has star quality, and "stand by me" is a great song for him.
He just needs to slowly get us into the dramatics.
You've just gotta yes! Stand by me yes! Wow.
Bomb! You murdered that.
What were you nervous about? I told you you got something special.
But if you start doubting it now, then you're gonna make me doubt it.
I know.
I'm not I'm not doubting it.
So, is this the end of this doubt? This is the The doubt is over.
Okay, no more nervousness.
Kicked out the door.
The depth that is in his humor is matched in the depth of his ability to sing and connect with people.
If I could sing like that, please, I'd go to the dentist like that.
"Say ah.
" "Ahh!" Before "the voice," I was just your regular 15-year-old girl, going to high school.
They give you fever The first moment I heard your voice, I was like, "that's my girl!" There's no doubt that you're super special.
I pick pharrell.
This has been the best experience of my life.
I want you to be the threat that I feel every time you sing.
Mm-hmm.
He left no time For my knockout performance, I chose to sing "back to black" by Amy winehouse.
Kept his lips wet Amy winehouse wrote this song out of something that really happened to her, and I just like singing music that has meaning.
I'll go back to black "back to black" is a tall order for her.
Oh! We only said goodbye with words I died 100 times but I think that it also just shows you how fearless this girl is.
Bla-a-a-ck bo-o-nkers! There's just a couple little, little old parts, I think.
In the very beginning, don't make it so airy and soft Okay.
Instead of getting the full tone of your voice.
Yeah.
And in the end, I wish you went, bla-a-ck you know, just go for it and come back with the end of the hook.
Uh-huh.
That's what I want you to do.
Siahna really surprised me.
She's so sweet and so tiny.
But the way she performs is incredible.
We only said goodbye with words right there.
Stop one second.
Play that That part again.
I go back to bla-a-a-ck Rihanna really knows what works for people and what doesn't work.
It's just so amazing that she'll take time out of her day to help young artists like me.
I go back to bla-a-a-ck Ooh, I like that.
In order to win this knockout round, the note delivery needs to match the intensity of her energy when she performs.
That's scary for a 15-year-old to be there already.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Singing "stand by me," here is mark hood.
When the night has come oh, and the land is dark and the moon is the only light we'll see yeah no, I won't be afraid I won't be afraid just as long whoa! As you stand stand by me now, listen.
If the sky that we look upon should crumble and fall and the mountains they will crumble to the sea yeah, yeah I won't cry I won't cry no, I won't shed a tear just as long as you stand stand by me so, darling, darling darling, darling, sta-a-a-nd yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah no matter what you do you, you, you just gotta stand by me baby, baby, baby, baby no matter what you do you just stand stand by me-e-e Coming up Siahna im fights to remain on team pharrell I go back to bla-a-a-ck Siahna is kind of a one-off in the world.
Mark, that was incredible.
I can't keep my eyes off you.
Leaving her coach with one of the toughest decisions of the season.
I'm gonna go with my gut on this one.
This is "the voice" and now, with "back to black," here is siahna im.
He left no time to regret kept his lips wet with his same old safe bet me and my head high and my tears dry get on without my guy we only said goodbye with words I died 100 times you go back to her and I go back to I go back to bla-a-a-ck I died 100 times you go back to her and I go back to bla-a-a-ck thank you.
How about a big hand for mark and siahna trying to move on to the live playoffs? Awesome.
I'm so proud of you.
I'm proud of you.
I'm so proud of you.
We're gonna start with Gwen.
Mark, I can't keep my eyes off you.
There was one moment where you jumped up and you froze and then you came down.
Did you see that? Did you see that? "The matrix.
" I saw that.
And then you did this weird, amazing waterfall run.
That's a really hard thing to do.
I feel like I know you already, and that's really incredible.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Hi.
Hi.
You are off-the-chart adorable.
And at 15, being able to embody the lyric and the power that you have in your voice is just not something that you would think a little doll would be able to sing like.
And I think that both performances were just incredible.
Adam.
Mark, you entertain on all levels, and I think that everyone's using their whole bag of tricks right now, because it's the time to do that.
I thought you were great.
Thank you.
And, siahna, there's this monster beast that comes out.
It's like these claws and these teeth and then you go back afterwards, and you're like, "Thank you, everybody.
" You definitely don't expect that to be happening.
I just think that siahna is kind of a one-off in the world.
Like, there's only one siahna.
Thank you.
Blake, you're up.
I don't know that mark is capable of sitting still.
It just happens to you when you start to perform.
To dance like I dance, like you just did, and sing like you sing, it's like a deadly That is not a compliment, man.
A deadly combination.
Siahna, you're so mature in the way that you perform.
It just blows my mind.
I don't know what you're gonna do.
Pharrell, it's all up to you.
When you sing a classic song, it requires for you to have personality and showmanship, and that, I think, both of them did very well today.
Mark, I think you came out and you were fighting for your life in terms of entertaining.
And, siahna, as you always do, you completely charmed the room.
So it is a touch knockout.
Pharrell, who's the winner of this knockout? Um I'm gonna go with my gut on this one.
The winner of this knockout is Mark.
Mark hood moves on to the live playoffs, representing pharrell.
Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Thank you, man.
That was a close call, man.
I'm so grateful I'm still on team pharrell.
I'm so glad that he's sees something in me.
Siahna, anything you want to say to your coach? Thank you so much for everything you've taught me.
I'm just so grateful for this opportunity.
Ladies and gentlemen, a big hand for siahna im.
Thank you, siahna.
Thank you.
No, thank you.
You did such a great job.
Siahna's amazing, but mark did his thing.
Oh, my God.
Pharrell! He's a storyteller when he sings.
I wanted to continue to grow and foster that as much as possible.
That was hard.
It was very hard.
But he is incredible.
Yeah.
Still to come Dare you to move The artists continue to raise the bar.
Barracuda I won't ask you you to just desert me you should be on the show.
She parted my hair.
You chose, like, the hardest vocal maybe ever.
And later Team Gwen delivers the knockout of the night.
Whoo! I got such an awesome person on my team! Ahh! My team went to another level.
I got to be with him I love Regina.
I would never want to battle her.
Yeah yeah oh this is "the voice" Welcome back.
I bet you could do a good Elvis impression.
I've never thought about that.
Maybe.
You got the tone for it.
Let's bring out this next knockout pairing from team Gwen.
I love you.
I love you.
I don't know what I'm gonna do.
Really? Here's a look at how these two artists match up.
I paired jeffery and kota together because they're my rock/soul singers, and I really only have room for one.
This is gonna be a really challenging decision.
Yay! Oh, my God.
Da-da-da-da, rihanna's here hello.
How are you? Bad girl riri in the flesh! Working with rihanna is dream-come-true material.
She's had hit after hit.
To sing for someone like that is incredible.
Before the blinds, I was working at a p.
R.
Agency in New York.
I hadn't been on a stage in six years, and I'm always in the back of my mind, wondering, you know, "what if?" Can I lay by your side? The minute a chair turned, I kind of had to give that job up.
I won! I feel like an idiot that I didn't turn around.
You have so much in that voice of yours.
It's pretty amazing.
Thank you so much.
This competition has completely changed how I see myself.
I can't believe how far you've come.
The winner of this battle is jeffery.
I'm dying to stay working with Gwen.
I can't keep up For the knockouts, I chose "turning tables" by Adele.
I carry a lot of pain, having lost my past relationship.
When this album came out, I was, like, drowning myself.
Oh, my God.
Couldn't listen to it.
I was like, "Adele, you're gonna make me jump off of a boat or something.
" I can't.
'Cause she, literally, like, ripped my heart out and was like, "this is what your heart's saying.
" It's so true.
I want to show that emotion and make my performance more meaningful for everyone.
This is a really hard song that you've chosen.
Yeah.
Especially in the hook.
I won't keep it round.
Round? I won't yeah, literally, that is the sweet spot of your voice.
Your voice can do whatever.
It's, like, mad open.
But don't wear your voice out.
Jeffery's tone is very much in the family of a Luther vandross and Sam Smith.
Next time I'll be braver It's really beautiful and fluid.
If he rounds his vowels, he will make people melt with his voice.
I think the main thing is still body language.
I won't let you you're vulnerable.
You're backing up.
You're like, "I won't let you.
" Start to get more confident, then you're gonna walk.
'Cause you're gonna say, "no, you guys.
I'm actually starting to get mad.
" And then you're gonna walk towards them, and you're gonna let them know that you're changing your mood.
Sadness turns into anger, and that's the journey that you need to take us through.
Yeah.
I won't let you if jeffery can just really get deep inside himself and be honest and reveal, really, who he is, the body language will come.
Before the blinds, I worked at the live-music venue that my family and I own and run.
Check Mike two.
I was practicing, writing, recording every day with my band.
And it's been a struggle.
Oh, whoa bring it to me in my blind audition, chairs turned, and I was like, "yes, finally!" Bring it on home to me kota, you're like a modern-day cyndi lauper.
I could see you in a band with me.
I have idolized you since I was 5 years old.
- I pick Gwen.
- Yes! With Gwen as my coach, I feel like I've grown a lot.
I want to be Gwen's first "voice" champion.
For my knockout performance, I chose "barracuda" by heart.
It is the ultimate embodiment of female rock and strength.
I feel like this song fits me really well because of my rock background.
I think that, for me, vocally, some of those growls, I don't know if they're so effective.
You don't want to lose your femininity.
If you can find places in the performance to bring it down without compromising the tone, find it.
I could never sing this song.
Most people couldn't.
Kota can belt, and she can do runs.
That blows me away, that someone can have so much versatility.
Sometimes she goes a little bit too extreme.
When you start to go in those big notes, there were a couple of them that felt really, ahh, loud Yeah.
And it wasn't, like, controlled.
You weren't making them big.
You were kind of going Kota is a little firecracker.
She's one of the most comfortable people onstage here at "the voice.
" No, you better make up something But she needs to stay a little bit more in control.
Her sass is there, performance-wise.
I feel like she'll be fine in that regard as long as she stays on top of her vocals.
Oh, barracuda how fun is this? It's inspiring.
With "turning tables," please welcome jeffery Austin.
Close enough to start a war all that I have is on the floor God only knows what we're fighting for all that I say, you always say more I can't keep up with your turning tables under your thumb, I can't breathe so I won't let you close enough to hurt me no, I won't ask you you to just desert me I can't give you what you think you gave me so I'm saying goodbye so I won't let you close enough to hurt me no, I won't ask you you to just desert me no, I couldn't give you what you think you gave me to turning tables and, ooh He's good.
He's good.
His voice is crazy.
Still to come Oh, barracuda Kota wade swings for the fences for a spot in the live playoffs.
Barracuda that was unbelievable.
It blew the roof off this place.
Your personality comes through so clearly.
This is really hard.
And later, Blake tries to get closer to rihanna.
I think you should reconsider my nickname for you, "Anna.
" "Anna" is weird.
You like "riri"? This is "the voice" Welcome back to the knockouts.
Now, with "barracuda," here is kota wade.
So, this ain't the end I saw you again today I had to turn my heart away smiled like the sun kisses for everyone and tales, it never fails you're lying so low in the weeds I bet you're gonna ambush me you'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees now, wouldn't ya, barracuda? "Sell me, sell you," the porpoise said dive down deep now to save my head you, I think that you got the blues, too if the real thing don't do the trick you better make up something quick you gotta burn, burn, burn, burn burn it to the wick oh, barracuda barra, barracuda-a-a-a-a A big hand for jeffery and kota here in the knockout round.
Team Gwen.
Nice job, both of you.
Thank you.
Let's get some comments from the coaches.
We'll start with Adam.
Jeffery, the originality I hear in the tone of your voice is one of the more identifiable, different tones we we've really ever heard on this show.
You're the guy to watch out for.
Where Gwen, being the only person that turned around for you, is gonna have quite a story to tell, I think, about what I think your potential is.
Thank you so much.
And, kota, I love seeing when people just swing so hard for the fences.
You chose the hardest vocal maybe ever in the history of hard vocals.
I respect that.
Yeah.
I think it took a minute, but by the end, you were really full-throttle, and it was great.
If it was me in in Gwen's shoes, I would say because of how different you are, jeffery, I-I'd be going with you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Adam.
Blake Shelton.
Jeffery, it's always impressive to me when somebody takes an opportunity like this and they really strip it down and show what they're made of as a vocalist.
Sometimes it sucks, and sometimes it's brilliant, like what you just did.
I thought that was so good.
Thank you, Blake, so much.
And, kota, you know, you took a big risk, too.
The only thing that I think it that it lacked was showing some dynamics.
That song is, like, on 10 the whole time, which is probably what you do.
That's what Gwen is gonna struggle with here, because going into the lives, I know she's bound to want a rocker chick like you.
So I don't know what you're gonna do, buddy.
Pharrell.
Jeffery, today, you came out and really showed people who you are, what you're into, and how you like to be perceived.
I just think that in a couple places, you may have been able to push it harder.
Okay.
Yeah.
But your performance was great, because it was about identity.
And, kota, I'm applauding you, too, for taking such a huge risk.
I feel like there was a couple flat moments, but where you didn't necessarily have the control, you made up in personality.
Thank you.
Well, coach, the decision is in your hands.
What do you think? This is really hard.
Kota, I was shocked when you chose this song.
But you're trying to kind of tell people the kind of record you would make, right? So your personal style and your personality come through so clearly.
Great job with that.
Thank you.
Jeffery, I'm so blown away with what these guys just said about you, because everything you said is everything we've been working on.
The problem that you had was you weren't showing us who you were.
You weren't letting us into your heart.
And you did that today.
I mean, that is, like, such a huge, big, gigantic deal.
When you hear this guy sing, the tone he has in his voice, it's very magic.
Thank you so much.
It means a lot.
Gwen, you got a tough one here.
Who is the winner of this knockout? Oh, my God.
I hate this.
The winner of this knockout Is jeffery.
Jeffery's gonna move on to the live playoffs, representing team Gwen.
Congratulations.
You killed it.
You killed it, too.
I'm so proud of you.
I'm so happy to be on team Gwen.
She has really just transformed me as a performer.
Incredible.
It's the moment I wanted to have on this show, and I'm so happy I finally got to do it.
Thank you so much.
A big hand for kota wade, everybody.
I'm devastated to see kota go.
I think she did a really, really good job.
But jeffery was bringing something that was just so special.
I can't wait to see how he's gonna blossom.
The way that I've been able to perform and emote is, like, completely thanks to you and pushing me, so I can't thank you enough for that.
I feel like you're just getting the tip of the iceberg of what's gonna happen next.
Thank you so much.
Give me another hug.
Congratulations.
Still to come I dare you to move hey Showstopping performances I got to go You won't want to miss.
Yes whoo-hoo-hoo! What?! And rihanna ignites team pharrell.
Mick Jagger is dynamite onstage, and that is what I want you to do from the beginning of this performance.
This is coming from the queen of vibe.
I'm all out of faith hey! This is "the voice" Welcome back to the knockouts.
Let's check in on Blake and rihanna.
I think you should reconsider my nickname for you, "Anna.
" "Anna" is weird.
You like "riri"? I mean, it's not new.
A lot of people say that? You thought that you're so brilliant, and nobody could think of it? I invented that nickname years ago, because I'm a fan.
For me? Yes.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Nailed it.
You know what? I'm switching it to "Anna" because you're being so cocky about it.
While they get that sorted out, let's look at Blake's next knockout pairing.
I paired Emily and nadjah because they're both sweet, soft-spoken girls, and they've got these unique, delicate voices, but I only have room for one of them on my team.
Being a high-school student, I never imagined that I would be on "the voice," and that this would be my life.
During the blinds, Adam fought really hard I'm telling you, I want you more than he does.
I'm sorry.
I pick Blake.
Ahh! Yes! But Blake gets me and what I want to do.
Your approach can have more energy.
I just want you to change the attitude.
Blake has helped me find a different side of myself.
But if you're looking for a real romance it is absolutely incredible to have made it to knockouts.
Emily Ann! This was the goal.
Anything after this is gonna be unimaginable.
Hello, Emily Ann.
Hi! This is rihanna.
You are whoa.
You are whoa! What are you gonna be singing? "Cowboy, take me away.
" Oh, yeah.
Dixie chicks.
I love that song.
You do know this song? I do know this song, and I love this song.
It gives me the chills.
I want to hear you.
I want to walk and not run I want to skip and not fall I love this song so much, because I've been listening to it since I was a little girl.
Except for maybe you I came into this as a country-and-bluegrass artist, but I haven't really been able to show off my bluegrass side yet.
Take me away this song will really showcase that.
The bigger notes that you hit were a little bit flat.
Okay.
Yeah.
And one of them was except for maybe you the way Natalie sings that is she hits those syllables really quick.
She punches them.
May-be you and you were kind of holding out the notes a little bit longer.
I love the sound of your voice.
But it was almost like you were afraid to hit the note.
Mm-hmm.
Don't be afraid to go there.
That's what we want to hear.
It was really frustrating, standing up there, trying to hit those notes, and knowing that I usually can, but today, I'm not on top of my game.
Go for it.
Okay.
Emily Ann, you can tell that she's really, really young in her voice, but she can do such amazing things with it.
Cowboy, take me away she kind of fell back a little bit, but I think she can be a star.
Oh, I pray closer to heaven Emily Ann's got a very delicate voice, and so I-I think she's cut out a pretty big challenge for herself.
Thank you so much.
Knock it out, girl.
Thank you.
But I know she's capable of making this thing happen.
It's too bad she's not cute at all.
It's gonna hold her back.
I'll work on it.
Okay, okay.
Says the ugly guy.
Hello, nadjah.
So, you've heard of rihanna? Have I heard of her?! I grew up listening to her.
When I walked into my knockout rehearsal and I saw rihanna standing there, it was a dream.
Come here, girl! There's fabulous, and then there's fabulous, and that's her.
What are you gonna be singing? "A woman's worth," by Alicia keys.
This is an amazing song.
Did you choose this song for any particular reason? I'm big on, like, women empowerment.
And I have a 2-year-old, so I want to make sure that whatever I'm singing, she's gonna learn from it.
Before the blind auditions, I was working as a personal banker, just trying to put food on the table and take care of my baby.
Whether you're high or low you've got to tip on the tightrope during my blind audition, Adam and Blake turned around.
I love that you picked a janelle monáe song, because he has no idea who that is.
I turned around for nadjah.
I didn't turn around for janelle.
I pick Blake.
Yes! I am the only pop/r&b artist on Blake's team.
Dang, that was just so freaking good.
The winner of this battle is nadjah.
I want to show Blake that I'm worth keeping for the long haul.
'Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her For her to choose Alicia keys, it made me a little bit concerned, because I just wasn't sure where she could take it.
Can't deny But she turned it out.
The tone in her voice, she can sing so beautifully.
Oh, my gosh.
Your voice is incredible.
Thank you.
You're beautiful.
You are the full package.
Right now, watching you, I mean, you get so nervous.
But by the end of that song and you'd kind of gotten comfortable and you were into it, I wish there was some way I could have you start the song feeling like you do by the end of the song.
Nadjah's such a shy performer, that when she started singing and we could see that there was something more to her and she was starting to let down her guard a little bit, I just got to get her over the hump of when she enters into the song.
Maybe in the first hook, you just sing every lead line, and leave the please me You don't have to do the ad-libs in the first one.
But then the second time, maybe you do a run at the end of the line.
If I don't let go of my nerves and own my song, then I'm going home.
Hoo-o-o-o whoo! Whoa! Emily versus nadjah The pairing makes sense to me, but it's gonna hurt really bad when I have to make that decision.
If you went with the nickname "Anna" like I said, if a guy went out on a date with you and then went out on a second date, he could "re-Anna.
" Now we're getting somewhere.
With "cowboy, take me away," here is Emily Ann Roberts.
I said I wanna touch the earth I wanna break it in my hands I wanna grow something wild and unruly oh, it sounds good to me cowboy, take me away fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue set me free, oh, I pray closer to heaven above and closer to you I wanna walk and not run I wanna skip and not fall I wanna look at the horizon and not see a building standing tall I wanna be the only one for Miles and Miles except for maybe you and your simple smile cowboy, take me awa-a-a-y So good.
Coming up Hoo-o-o-o 'cause a real man Nadjah Nicole takes the stage with a spot on team Blake at stake.
Help me.
What are you gonna do? The winner of this knockout And Who will be pharrell's final steal? We've got that steal! This is "the voice" Welcome back to the knockouts.
Now, singing "a woman's worth," please welcome nadjah Nicole.
You could buy me diamonds you could buy me pearls take me on a cruise around the world baby, you know I'm worth it hey, dinner lit by candles run my bubble bath make love tenderly to last and last baby, you know I'm worth it you will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first she will and she can find a man who knows her worth hoo-o-o-o 'cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her and a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her just hear this song but you can't go wrong when you value when you value sing hoo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o hoo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o always put each other first and no one can deny a woman's worth A big hand for Emily Ann and nadjah.
Help me.
This is tough.
All right, let's talk to pharrell and give Blake a minute to take it all in.
Coach? Emily Ann Roberts, you were really, honestly, in your comfort zone, but it still felt like you were fighting in a good, positive way.
Thank you.
Nadjah Nicole, that beautiful jazzy note on the end of it that's not even in the song, I loved.
They're both really, really, really good artists, right, guys? - Yes.
- Well said.
Thank you, pharrell.
Gwen.
Wow.
Nadjah, you're mesmerizing to watch.
Thank you.
You could tell that you're so into the song, and you're so in the moment, and you're feeling it so much, and it was a really good performance.
Emily Ann, I guess a lot of it is to do with your age.
There's no way to understand that you have that much intuition and confidence and a voice that goes along with it.
You're really good.
Thank you.
Thank you, Gwen.
- Adam.
- Emily Ann, it's true.
The progress that you've made, the perfection with which you're singing is just, like, kind of crazy.
Nadjah, it kind of seems like Emily Ann has really found the spot she wants to be in, and it seems like you have other things about you that I haven't heard yet.
And I want to hear more.
Blake, what are you thinking? Nadjah, it was funny when When rihanna was out here.
It's freaky, isn't it, that rihanna was out here? Before she even met you, she saw what song you were gonna be doing.
She was like, "man, I haven't heard the girl, but this probably isn't gonna work.
" And then you started singing, and she was like, "oh, my gosh.
That was amazing.
It was beautiful.
" And it gave you that opportunity to go up to those big falsetto notes and blow people away.
Emily Ann, within the realm of country music, there's also different little miniature genres, and she fits into an area, kind of a bluegrass, kind of a Mountain sound.
But also mainstream.
And I've been through enough to know that I can look at this younger generation and go, "that one's gonna be around for a while.
That one sucks.
" And I look at you and I go, "she has the potential, if she gets her hands on the right music, she could be around for 20 years in country music, no question about it," you know? Blake, who's the winner of this knockout? The winner of this knockout Is Emily Ann.
Emily Ann is moving on, representing team Blake in the live playoffs.
Congratulations.
Whoo, I was nervous.
The things that Blake was saying was absolutely incredible.
The fact that he believes in me I don't even know what to say.
Nadjah, is there anything you'd like to say to your coach? Thank you for helping me grow as an artist, helping me find my confidence.
Thank you.
A big hand for nadjah Nicole, everybody.
Emily and nadjah That was a tough one for Blake.
Nadjah is somebody I know he desperately wanted on his team, but those are the hard things that we have to face during the knockout rounds.
Come on, baby.
It's okay, mommy.
Thank you, baby.
I ended up ultimately choosing Emily Ann because she's somebody that not only could be played on the radio, I think she's gonna be played on the radio really soon.
How incredible is she? I know.
You're gonna be around for a while, kiddo.
You're gonna make me rich.
As the night went on If you're looking to be somebody's just friends Blake completed his team by picking Zach seabaugh over Chris crump.
That's just fine if you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak be mi-I-I-ne being 16 with a song like that is like trying to connect with the lyrics and being sure that girls in here feel what he's saying.
And damned if he didn't do that.
It's just like you controlled the moment.
Let's do it, man.
Let's do it.
Great job, man.
Here's Blake's locked live playoff team.
Even though my team is country-heavy, it's still very diverse, because I have young people who like vintage country music.
I've got a young guy who loves current country music.
I've got Barrett, who can pretty much do it all.
And I've got ivonne.
She's not country at all.
She really stands out like a sore thumb That's good for ivonne.
The other coaches better be watching out, because my team, we're gonna bring it.
Coming up I want, the moment you start singing, people to be like, "who's that kid?" Pharrell's final knockout pairing impresses rihanna.
Befo-o-o-re what?! You're sick.
All the crazy stuff that you do, even when you feel like you're being awkward, that's the best part of you.
And later A shocking ending to the knockouts.
Whoo! We've got that steal! Oh, my God.
What's up, boy scouts? It's Christina grimmie, coming to you from the knockouts, where artists are rocking showstopping heels and jewelry.
From Emily Ann Roberts' cowboy boots and studded belt, to mark hood's hat and fashion sneakers, and Morgan Frazier's bold statement necklace, during the knockouts, it's been all about shoes and accessories, which is why I will be taking these.
To shop my standout kohl's style, check out nbc.
Com/kohls, and follow me online for more ways to get stage ready.
This is "the voice" Welcome back.
Let's bring out this next knockout pairing from team pharrell! Tim! Hey, bud.
How are you? Good to see you.
Before we get to it, let's take a look at how these two match up.
I paired Evan and Tim together because I wanted to have the two alternative indie artists compete, and I want to see who really sits comfortably in that alternative position.
Hi, Evan.
How are you? What's up? I'm good.
I was shocked, seeing rihanna.
I'm already getting to work with pharrell week in and week out, but now I've got an opportunity to work with rihanna.
And they're both such, like, pioneers of their musicir c.
You guys want to sing some songs? Before "the voice," I was able to use my music to actually help people at a dementia center.
Thank you.
It was so great to speak to people that needed to hear encouragement through music.
Halfway through my blind audition, I didn't have a chair.
And then it was just like, "boom, boom, boom," right at the end.
What's your favorite Stevie wonder song to sing? "Overjoyed," for sure.
And would you do a verse of the chorus? You got it.
Maybe, too, if you would believe pharrell really got my attention, 'cause he wanted to know about me Wow.
Which showed me that he wanted to invest in me.
I pick pharrell.
The winner of this battle is Evan.
My job now is to prove to pharrell why he should take me to lives.
Talk to me about your song.
"Dare you to move" is one of my favorite songs ever.
I love that song.
I've seen switchfoot live like four or five times.
Ooh.
So I'm all about wanting to encourage people.
This song just says, "do it.
" Like, we have a short amount of time on earth, so go kill it.
You're gonna be playing the guitar? Yes.
And that's another thing I'm excited about.
I haven't gotten to play an instrument yet.
Where can you run to escape from yourself? This is a very flattering song for his voice and for his personality.
I dare you to move and I felt like it does show the inspirational artist he wants people to see him as.
Your voice is amazing.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Like, incredible grit and texture.
Thank you.
When you moved the guitar away, I believed you more.
It's such an intense song and an intense message.
This almost was hiding a lot of that.
So, just drop this? I want, like, the moment you start singing, people to be like, "who's that kid?" This is coming from the queen of vibe.
All right.
I was excited for the chance to play an instrument this round.
Today never happened but it's a lot easier to convey emotion when you're not hiding behind your instrument.
Befo-o-o-re What?! Whoa.
1,000 times better.
Yeah.
1,000 times better? You're sick.
I'm really excited about you.
You said you wanted people to feel emotion.
I want this song to really hit home.
If you stay cool, the passion will come out of you because it's there.
Don't think about it.
Yeah.
Just feel it.
Feel it.
You'll know what feels right.
Don't over-think Over-feel.
Your voice is definitely gonna be the most important thing in this competition.
But movement is also important.
You need to believe it, because that's the only way we are gonna believe it.
Before the blinds, I was struggling as a full-time musician and as a music producer.
I came to "the voice" because I wanted to have a mentor to help me grow as an artist.
Give a little time to me at the blind audition, I was just so happy to be on team Gwen.
I just love how passionate you are and how you want to really deliver your heart.
Just us, you find out nothing that I wouldn't want to tell you about no, no, no the winner of the battle is Ellie.
To lose the battle, I was kind of heartbroken.
There is a steal! At the same time, I was just, like, really stoked to be working with pharrell.
The song came on, and you just were like I was like, "okay.
" Bravery.
That should be the only crutch you lean on.
And I think today was a good exhibition for that.
And that's what's going on nothing's fine, I'm torn Tim chose "torn" by Natalie imbruglia.
This is how I feel I thought it was a good song for him because it challenges him.
He wanted to go outside of his comfort zone.
He has a good voice, and he knows how to use it.
Torn interesting voice.
Right? Thanks so much, man.
You're so cool onstage, though.
Yeah, you got a vibe.
Like, all the crazy stuff that you do Yeah.
Even when you feel like you're being awkward Uh-huh? That's the best part of you.
Okay.
'Cause that's just your personality coming through.
It's not a bad awkward? I guarantee you somebody thought Mick Jagger was weird when he started performing.
Yeah.
But Mick Jagger is dynamite onstage, because he is not afraid to do anything Okay.
And that is what I want you to do from the beginning of this performance.
The other thing is, you're constricting the pathway where your voice is.
Okay.
You're squeezing the life out of your performance.
Okay.
'Cause you'll go Instead of This is how I feel own the stage.
Engage like you did in that last performance.
Yeah.
I loved him.
His voice can do all these different things.
I'm all out of faith hey! This is how I feel but he is going to have to not be afraid of the artist that he is.
I want him to be, like, the comeback boy.
Yeah.
That's right.
With "dare you to move," here is Evan mckeel.
Welcome to the planet welcome to existence what happens next? What happens next? I dare you to move I dare you to move like today never happened today never happened maybe redemption has stories to tell maybe forgiveness is right where you fell where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? I dare you to move whoa! I dare you to move like today never happened today never happened befo-o-o-re Wow.
Yeah, right? Coming up Nothing's right, I'm torn Tim atlas hopes to prove to his new coach that he deserves a spot in the live playoffs.
Your voice is so unique and candy to my ears.
This is the knockout rounds.
You came out swinging, and you did what you had to do.
And then Our love is like xo The final knockout of the night I got to go Delivers.
I got to go yeah this is "the voice" Welcome back to the knockouts.
And now, with "torn," here is Tim atlas.
I thought a saw girl brought to life and she was warm, she came around like she was dignified wow.
She showed me what it was to cry well, you couldn't be that girl that I adored you don't seem to know, don't seem to care what your heart is for but I don't know her anymore there's nothing where she used to lie my conversation has run dry and that's what's going on nothing's right, I'm torn I'm all out of faith and this is how I feel I'm cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor illusion never changed into something real I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky you're a little late and I'm already torn no, I'm already, I'm already, I'm already torn A big hand for Evan and Tim.
His voice is so interesting.
Mm-hmm.
All right, let's hear what the coaches have to say about your performances.
Gwen, we'll start with you.
Tim, the first half was magic.
Candy to my ears.
But I think as it got further along, some of the ad-libbing just needed to be worked out a little bit more.
But I think your voice has such an interesting tone to it.
It's so unique.
That's just you.
Nobody else has that, and I love that about you.
Thank you so much, Gwen.
Evan, I loved just how passionate you are and how you just let everyone in.
You're vulnerable, and it doesn't seem like you're holding anything back.
That's a really good quality to have.
And your vocals are really strong.
I thought it was a really great performance.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, Gwen.
Blake.
Evan definitely gets up there and he just sings perfectly.
What a great vocalist you are, with so much energy and fight.
Tim, you're definitely the most unique out of the two of you.
You know, I can't think of anybody in the world that sounds like you.
But because you throw in so many herbs and spices and stuff in your vocal, sometimes it gets kind of weird for a minute.
But the king of weird is pharrell, so that might actually That may work in in your favor, so And it's great.
Blake, you're the king of stupid, so it's fantastic.
Oh, burn! That was pretty funny.
All right, Blake.
Thank you.
Pharrell? Evan, you came out and you gave it your all.
And one of rihanna's notes to you was, you know, to try and sing it without the guitar.
And there's, like, a different sense of freedom that came over you.
I felt like your intuition for the song and where it needed to go today was great.
This is the knockout rounds.
You came out swinging and you did what you had to do.
Thank you.
Tim, I also agree you do have a different voice.
And that can be very special.
And at times, that can actually be something that kind of hurts you if you don't use it right.
When the chorus comes up, like, you brought in this angry energy, and I thought, as a fellow producer, I applaud you for trying to, like, highlight that in your performance.
Pharrell, who is the winner of this knockout? Um I think in this particular instance The winner of this knockout Is Evan.
Evan's gonna move on to the live playoffs, representing team pharrell.
Congratulations.
Great job.
Thank you for all your help.
I'm so appreciative.
Great job.
Thank you, guys.
I'm going to the live playoffs! This is opportunities I have never had before, just multiplying.
Congratulations, buddy.
Tim, anything you want to say to your coach? Pharrell, I've learned so much from you in such a little amount of time, and, you and Gwen, thank you for being so kind.
I appreciate it.
Don't give up on your voice, 'cause you have something special and different, and if you can make it work for you, it works forever.
Thank you so much, pharrell.
A big hand for Tim atlas, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you, Tim.
Best of luck to you.
Tim has a very interesting voice Thank you.
Great tone.
But Evan came out swinging.
He really went hard, and he really wanted it.
Whatever songs that you guys used to listen to when he was young It has made such an impact on him.
They gave me all my records.
All right, man.
Thank you so much.
Great job.
Jesus, take the wheel You can buy full versions of the winners' knockout performances on iTunes You to just desert me I can't give you Or listen to them on apple music.
Like today never happened Coming up Yeah yeah A knockout performance that blows our coaches away.
I got to go yeah when pharrell looks confused, that's when I know something is real good, 'cause he'll be like And who will be the final artist stolen? We've got that steal! This is "the voice" Welcome back.
Let's have a look at the final knockout of the night from team Gwen.
I paired Regina and Riley together.
They're my two steals, and they're so talented.
And this one's giving me a lot of anxiety.
Before the show, I had my ups and downs in the industry, and this has opened up a whole new world.
It's unbelievable that a voice like that can come out of a human being.
I thought it would be a crime if this voice wasn't on this show.
I pick Adam.
Yes! Why are you looking oh, down the wrong roads in the battles, when he picked Jordan, every drop of blood in my body went straight down to the floor.
There's your steal! When Gwen pressed her button, I was so happy.
You deserve to be on the show.
And for me to be here right now, all I can just keep saying is that I'm grateful.
You have to teach me something.
You promise? We're absolutely gonna teach each other.
Okay.
Hey, Regina.
Oh, my God.
Oh! Nice shoes, miss thing.
Can I hug you? Ah! Oh, my God.
I am such a rihanna fan.
I love every song from her from the first time she came out.
I'm so excited.
Thank you.
I'm so grateful.
I'm so grateful.
I can't wait for her to hear how amazing you are.
I need to hear this voice.
For the knockouts, I'll be singing "midnight train to Georgia" by Gladys knight and the pips.
He said he's going back to find yes! Huh, ooh I chose this song because I love the soulfulness, and Gladys knight opened the the pathway for artists like myself.
You did a couple runs, and you kind of stopped for breath in between them.
Smooth it out just a little bit.
Okay.
Great.
Can you do it again, another version of it? Just freestyle.
I'm so intrigued by your voice that I want to see all the aspects of it.
Okay.
One thing that Regina needs to do is take liberties and be creative.
I've got to be with him whoo! I got to go yes! Oh on that midnight train to Georgia - whoo! Yes! - I love Regina.
She opens her mouth, and you're just floored.
I would never want to battle her.
In my, hey, hey I want to stay on Gwen's team, because that pop that she has, she's gonna pull it out of me.
Between the two versions, almost mash it together Yeah.
Because I wouldn't go too far from the melody, 'cause then people are gonna get scared.
Okay.
You have such an incredible gift.
It doesn't run out at a certain age, you know? Whew, thank you so much.
And that's why I love this show, because it's all about your voice.
Before the blinds, I was doing shows around town, and I was posting YouTube videos.
During the blind auditions, pharrell turned, and I was ecstatic.
This girl's R&B tone is everything.
Is ill.
Why your people in the battle, I definitely felt like I left it all on the stage.
But Evan won that battle.
Whoa! I definitely want to prove to Gwen that I'm worthy.
It's a little bit intimidating because I'm new to the team.
But I'm very excited to show her what else I can do.
Your heart is glowing for my knockout performance, I'm gonna be singing "xo" by beyoncé.
In the darkest night hour singing a beyoncé song is very risky, because she's such an incredible talent, and she's so high up there in respect.
So I definitely wanted to put my own spin on it so that it didn't come off like I was trying to be beyoncé.
Oh, you can turn my lights out your love is like xo whoo! I was really impressed by Riley.
She did all types of stuff to this song.
But if you took all that away, she still had a voice that could stand on its own.
Love me lights out oh, you can turn my lights out why why am I here? I know.
I mean, honestly.
I-I'm in shock right now, because I didn't know that I got such an awesome person on my team! Ahh! Wow! Like, I got an amazing girl.
She's 19 years old.
She's beautiful.
Her voice is gorgeous.
What a steal, too.
I am just so excited that I stole Riley.
At what age did you start doing this? Probably seriously around 15.
Mm-hmm.
Started posting YouTube videos.
One of your songs was my first video to go over a million views.
Get out! What? Over a million views.
Yeah.
Which song? Um, it was "diamonds.
" Wow.
And I yeah.
You definitely have the voice to do exactly the type of music you want to do Thank you.
Pop/r&b.
You know the right amount of attitude to give.
Don't ever overdo it, because this right here is, like, great.
Yeah.
I feel so excited about my two steals.
Both Regina and Riley are so talented.
My team went to another level.
Miss polka dot, you got some hard decisions to make, girlfriend.
I know.
I know I'm gonna have to bring my "a" game.
I'm gonna have to put in, deliver, nail every single second of this song, especially being new to the team.
This whole time, I have been scraping at the bottom.
I got one chair turned at blinds.
I didn't win my battle I got stolen.
If I want to win this knockout, I need to just wow everyone and prove that I deserve to still be here.
And now, with "xo," here is Riley biederer.
Your love is bright as ever even in the shadows baby, kiss me before they turn the lights out ohhhhhhhhh oh, oh, oh, oh your heart is glowing yeah and I'm crashing into you baby, kiss me, kiss me before they turn the lights out before they turn the lights out oh, baby, love me lights out our love is like xo your love is like xo you kill me, boy, xo our love is like xo all that I see, I give you everything baby, love me lights o-o-o-out all that I see I give you everything, baby love me lights out love me lights out oh, you can turn my lights out Whoo! Coming up I got to go, I got to go The final performance of the knockouts Yeah on a train to Georgia Leaves Gwen with a gut-wrenching decision.
You should be on the show, but so should you.
Gwen, who's the winner of this knockout? The winner of this knockout is gonna be This is "the voice" Welcome back to the final night of the knockouts.
Singing "midnight train to Georgia," here is Regina love.
Whoo, yeah hoo, mm L.
A.
It proved too much for the man too much for the man yes he couldn't make it he said he's leaving the life soon he's come to know ooh, ooh, ooh he said he's going he said he's going back to find going back to find ooh, ooh, ooh what's left of his world a world he left behind, yeah not so long ago ohh he's leaving leaving listen, on that midnight train to Georgia leaving on the midnight train oh, lord I want to go he said he's going back to find ooh a simple place and time ohh I got to be with him yes, oh on that midnight train to Georgia whoa, hey I'd rather live in his world I can't live without him in mine yeah yeah oh, I got to go I got to go yeah on a train to Georgia yeah, yeah, whoa A big hand for Regina and Riley.
Stepping it up in the knockouts.
Whoo-hoo-hoo! Whoo! What are you gonna do? I don't know.
What an awesome knockout.
Let's start with you, Adam.
Regina, I miss you.
But now I miss you even more.
As far as I'm concerned, once you're on my team, you're always on my team.
She's on my team.
I know she is.
But, man, you just crushed this.
And then Riley comes out, kills it, too.
I think that this was your best because you were not afraid.
And there's a lot to be afraid of over here.
I know.
You guys both impressed me tremendously, so good job.
Thank you.
Blake.
Regina, that was unbelievable.
Blew the roof off this place.
And then, Riley, I saw a little bit more diversity in in what she did as a vocalist, but how do you argue with what Regina did, which was, you know, she parted my hair, you know? So I think it's literally a matter of who you think you can take the farthest.
Pharrell? Miss Regina, I mean, you had people up on their feet.
But you also had, like, the goose bumps and the chills.
That was one of the craziest performances I've ever seen in terms of just filling that church.
You know how I know you killed it, Regina? 'Cause I know when pharrell looks confused, that's when I know something is real good, because he'll be like Honestly, it was so much, and it was never too much.
Perfect.
Riley, you were on my team.
You know how I feel about you.
I thought that you did really great.
And I do think that Gwen has a tough decision because there's no reason why either one of you guys should go home.
Thank you, pharrell.
Gwen, what did you think? When I got you on my team, I was like, "oh, she's great," and then during rehearsals, I was like, "what?! Oh, my gosh.
This girl is incredible!" Rihanna was blown away.
Your voice is so unique, and it kind of doesn't fit inside your body.
I just think that you have so, so much potential.
Regina, you're unbelievable.
What I love about you is your spirit.
I was so taken in by your determination.
I was brought to tears.
Right now, I'm so confused, because you should be on the show.
But so should you.
Gwen, a tough decision, but the time has come.
Who's the winner of this knockout? Okay, um What a position to be put in.
I mean, this is ridiculous.
I'm you know the winner of this knockout Is gonna be Regina.
Regina, congratulations.
You're moving on to the live playoffs.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Riley could win the whole competition.
She's that good.
But in this moment, there's no way that I was gonna sit there and ignore what Regina had just done.
I mean, she moved the whole room.
You're amazing.
After this, I got you.
That was so awesome.
I love you.
Ha-ha! Yes! Oh, yes, yes! Thank you, God! Thank you, God! You wait.
You wait.
I'm not 19 years old, but I had to give it all I had.
Live shows, get ready, 'cause here we come.
Coaches, let me remind you that Riley is available to steal.
Riley, anything you want to say to your We've got that steal! With no time to spare, pharrell is in! Congratulations, Riley! You're back! Pharrell, what is it about Riley's voice? There's so much potential in you, and and I hated losing you the first time.
So I'm thankful to Gwen for making this possible for you to come home.
Thank you.
Well, go say hi to your new old coach.
Congratulations, Riley biederer, and back on team pharrell.
I was impressed by Riley's performance.
And I love that she has room to grow.
Everything happens for a reason.
You're something else.
Thank you.
And I'm grateful to you.
Thank you so much.
She she has it.
That worked out good.
Yo, it worked out great.
My team is super soulful.
It's special.
It's different.
They all vibrate at a very high frequency, and everyone in the room feels it.
I hope America sees in them what I see in them.
Yay! My team, going into the playoffs, is so amazing.
We're eccentric and all over the place.
I can't wait to work with them more.
My team is strong enough to make it all the way.
