The Battles Premiere, Part 2

1 Daly: Let the battles begin! Last night, the Season 12 battles got off to an electrifying start Come on! with the help of four of the biggest advisers we've ever had.
Finally.
You got me.
Luke: "The Voice" has really amazing coaches out there, facilitating these dreams.
Watching stars be born I don't think that ever gets old.
This is about seizing that moment.
No pressure.
You might want to push yourself to be a little raspier.
I think all of us know what it's like to hear "no" and what it's like to keep working until you get the "yes.
" Very nice.
I know where we about to go.
Coming up in the game, I ain't never had this opportunity.
I am titanium This is your chance to get everybody's attention at one time.
Yeah! Wow! Daly: And global music superstar Céline Dion.
Céline: The most important thing is to be the best of yourself while you sing.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the Olympics.
You're blowing my mind.
Daly: Tonight, our coaches and advisers turn up the heat You twirl her, and you're flipping your dadgum hair, and y'all are like Yeah Get your bodies into this thing.
Oh, my God.
That was incredible! [Laughs.]
Pff.
Wow! Buh-bye.
Céline has left the building.
Mind blown.
The first half, just kind of nail it.
Oh, we're gonna work.
Right.
Daly: leading to the most intense night of battles yet Whoo! The ladies are gonna just eat you alive.
I was so mesmerized by your body.
Whoo-hoo! I want to see it again.
It was so good.
I'm sure you do.
[Laughter.]
I hope you're not available to steal, 'cause I'll probably lose my girlfriend.
You're so dumb.
[Laughs.]
Help me decide.
You're Alicia Keys.
You're smart.
Don't help him.
Hey, Zack Morris, I'm not even talking to you right now.
Daly: and the most unexpected steal of the season.
Wow! Oh, my God.
What's going on? Daly: Night two of the battles starts right now.
Even though we're rivals, we can agree on one thing.
Yeah.
That we're better than them.
Yes.
Particularly Adam.
In so many ways.
Adam is probably getting another, like, rinse in his hair.
I'm actually hoping he rinses that out.
[Chuckles.]
Just like the Hey, can I get the bottle of the Billy Idol to put in my hair? [Chuckles.]
Oh, hey, buddy.
Call me Billy Idol all day.
[Laughs.]
I did, I did.
He's a badass.
[Laughs.]
You are on Gwen's team right now.
[Laughter.]
Get out of my way Get into my chair Look who I have on I'm joking, baby.
I have on my team today.
Daly: Now let's meet Gwen's first pairing of the night 32-year-old Johnny Gates from Providence, Rhode Island, versus 24-year-old Sammie Zonana from Austin, Texas.
Johnny: My family was super Italian.
If you ever watched "The Godfather," it was kind of that vibe.
I've been playing in bands all my life, and we got to open for Rod Stewart.
I'm 32 now.
I really do feel like this is my last big shot.
Maggie, I couldn't have tried anymo-o-re Yeah! You have such presence up there.
He's got the moves like Jagger.
But your voice is incredible.
I feel like out of the choices that you have, it's so obvious.
Us garage-band kids have to stick together.
Yes! Aw! [Cheers and applause.]
Sammie: I have my own entertainment wedding business, but I'm also planning my own wedding.
I met my fiancée, Brooke, in college.
You Makes me feel like a dangerous woman Alicia: You took that song, and you made it, like, a different type of place.
When you sing, there's a lot of emotion, and I feel like I could really relate to that, and I'm so excited.
[Cheers and applause.]
Taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide This fever for you Sammie: Gwen gave Johnny and I Céline Dion's cover of "I Drove All Night.
" Can you believe we're singing Céline Dion? No.
It's Céline! These are gonna be big shoes to fill, I think.
Yeah.
We wanted to put our own little twist on it.
I drove all night Johnny: And I'm excited to present what we thought of to Gwen and see what she says about it.
Hi, guys.
Hey, the party's on.
Look who came to hang out with you.
No way.
Sammie: Our adviser is Céline Dion, which was a big surprise, because we're singing her song.
We've been talking about you all day.
I mean, she's like the most famous female singer, like, on the planet.
Hi.
How are you? Good.
And then I see Gwen, and it's an honor to just be in the presence.
I think that if you're coming from, like, playing in a band and, like, writing songs Yeah.
then you kind of have to be together.
Gwen: I paired Johnny and Sammie together because they both come from this organic, alternative band world.
I wanted to do one of her songs because I thought, "How great would that be to, like, have her here?" The song works in a rock way, in a pop way Yeah.
and has so much history with different styles.
It's been traveling through time, because from Roy Orbison to Cyndi Lauper to me.
Yep.
And you could still play that song today and make it different.
Sammie: Yeah.
Awesome.
That's kind of like what we did with this.
So let me hear it.
Johnny: It's a nerve-racking thing.
You're singing in front of Céline Dion.
Taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide This fever for you is just burning me up inside And not only that, you're singing her song.
I drove all night to get to you Céline Dion is singing with us.
You're bringing an indie, like, alternative newness to it.
But work the room a little bit.
Yeah.
And that's what Céline does so well.
She has that body language that speaks to so many different people around the world.
2, 3, 4! Oh, oh Oh, oh, I drove all night It's so original.
I'm really, really thrilled.
Oh, oh Wow.
Oh, oh, I drove all night Oh, my God! That was incredible! [Laughs.]
Pff.
Wow! That was incredible! Yay! Johnny: That was awesome.
That was cool.
That was fun.
Buh-bye.
Céline has left the building.
[Laughs.]
Oh, my God.
It feels like you're in a band together.
I'm so excited.
Let's just experiment tomorrow with the band and get it really super, like it would be on alternative radio.
Yeah.
It looks like I'm gonna have to put this song back on my show Oh, my God.
but I'm gonna have to use your version.
[Laughter.]
Daly: With their battle nearing, Johnny and Sammie join Gwen and Céline Dion for a final rehearsal.
I drove all night, I crept in your room Gwen: Johnny he's got a lot of personality.
He's a great character voice.
2, 3, 4! Oh, oh Gwen: Sammie she's got a lot of honesty in her vocal style.
They could make records that people would like, and it's so exciting to discover people like that.
Céline: The end I drove all night I drove all night Drove all night I wanted to have the end not unison, because it didn't work for me.
I drove all night You know, like, harmonized a little bit.
I'll tell you what I missed from yesterday.
Okay.
You guys were so connected.
Right before the Whoa-oh you need to take the guitar off.
I think you have a little bit of both that way, yeah.
Okay.
I can get up in your grille, Sammie.
Get over here.
I can get up in your grille.
Our chemistry is what makes performance really good.
And if it's missing that, then it's gonna fall short.
When I was singing this song, every time, I said I drove all night I was doing this, 'cause you want the crowd to go crazy.
Could taste your sweet kisses Your arms open wide Johnny: This is my first step in pursuing this solo career, so I need to leave everything on that stage.
Here we go! I drove all night I think the deciding factor's gonna be stage presence.
To get to you To get to you It's gonna be such a hard decision.
I feel like I'm gonna be breaking up a band, and it's gonna be devastating.
I mean, you're you're blowing my mind.
It's like they resold my song to myself.
Yeah, okay.
So I'm gonna buy it again.
[Laughter.]
Daly: Coming up I drove all night Whoo! Daly: an epic night of battles.
I had a feeling this battle would cause a frenzy.
I was so mesmerized by your body.
Ooh.
I don't I don't mean it like that.
Hey, what the I hope you're not available to steal, 'cause I'll probably lose my girlfriend.
[Laughs.]
Blake: What?! Daly: We got a steal! Whoo-hoo! [Cheers and applause.]
[Laughs.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
It's the night of their battle, and Johnny and Sammie are about to go head-to-head.
Johnny: I've been trying to make it for a long time in music, and it's always been this close.
Daly: Johnny Gates! [Cheers and applause.]
Johnny: To continue this journey would just mean everything to me.
Whoo! Sammie: I'm not ready to go back to Austin and to sing at weddings.
Daly: Sammie Zonana.
This show is the opportunity for me to grow as an artist, and so I have to stay.
[Cheers and applause.]
This battle begins right now.
Hey! Come on! I had to escape The city was sticky and cruel [Clapping rhythmically.]
Maybe I should have called you first But I was dying to get to you And I was dreaming while I drove The long, straight road ahead Uh-huh Yeah, yeah I could taste your sweet kisses Your arms open wide This fever for you is just burning me up inside I drove all night to get to you Is that all right? Is that all right? I drove all night I crept in your room Woke you from your sleep To make love to you To make love to you Is that all right? Is that all right? Oh, Oh, oh I drove all night Whoo! Taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide This fever for you is just burning me up Inside I drove all night to get to you Is that all right? Is that all right? I drove all night I crept in your room Is that all right? Is that all right? 2, 3, 4! Oh, oh Oh, oh I drove all night I drove all night Oh, oh Oh, oh I drove all night I drove all night Oh, oh Oh, oh I drove all night [Cheers and applause.]
Daly: Let's hear it for Johnny and Sammie.
Thank you, guys.
Let's start with Adam Levine.
Adam: So, it's nice when we can just enjoy a great song sung by two leather-clad badasses like yourselves.
[Laughter.]
You guys are both really unique, and I always really applaud that Gwen became who she is because she was different.
So I'm sure that's why she loves you both so much.
If I'm trying to help her out I do need help this time.
I really do.
It's nice when friends help each other, isn't it? [Laughter.]
Yes, friends.
Ooh! After all we've done on the show together, that's what you say? That hurts right here.
I can live with that.
[Laughter, applause.]
Don't clap.
[Laughter.]
Johnny, you have a thing, and it's hard to ignore that.
I don't know.
I-I may Johnny but Sammie, also.
[Laughter.]
Daly: Thanks, Adam.
Blake? You guys were really expressing yourselves onstage, and it's loose, and it's edgy.
I guess I would also go with Johnny, but Sammie, too.
[Laughter.]
That's the least amount of help we could give.
Maybe Alicia will help out.
I love just the name Johnny and Sammie together.
I know.
Isn't that crazy? It's either an amazing diner, or it's two incredible artists.
[Laughs.]
Sammie, I loved that you were the only one moving in the beginning, while Johnny was on his guitar.
And I love your individuality.
You both did a great job, but I felt that there was a very close kind of energy between you and Johnny, and so I would choose Johnny.
Thank you.
All right, Gwen, it's really your decision.
I'm amazed by you, because they took this song, and they made it their own, like a band would cover, and they made it modern, like it would be on KROC.
Sammie, I love your voice.
You just have such a beautiful spirit.
I know that you sing from your heart, and I'm really, really proud of you.
That was the best I ever saw you.
And, Johnny, you're my Italian homey.
[Laughs.]
You're already this star with your stage presence.
There's not anyone like you that comes from your point of view musically, so that's really unique for me to have on my team.
Gwen, who's the winner of this battle? [Sighs.]
This is a really hard decision for me.
[Suspenseful music plays.]
She's a really special girl.
He's an incredible guy.
You can see that.
Phew, phew, phew! So, the winner of this battle is Johnny Gates.
Johnny, congratulations.
You will be going to the knockouts and represent Team Gwen.
I love you.
I love you.
Hurts.
That hurts me.
Johnny's super gifted, he's unique, and his attitude is so great.
I just want to give him that shot.
Daly: Give it up for Johnny, everybody.
I've only played in bands my whole life.
Gwen is helping me discover who I am as a solo artist, and I feel like she knows the steps that I have to take.
Coaches, let me remind you that Sammie is available to steal.
Sammie, what would you like to say to Gwen? Gwen, you brought out something in me that wasn't there before.
Wow.
So I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Give it up for Sammie Zonana.
[Cheers and applause.]
My heart's cracking.
I have one more steal.
I have my eye on a few people.
I'm trying to see what will round out my team, really give it some variety.
It makes me so sad.
[Sobs.]
I know.
But that's your guy.
Johnny's your guy.
I love him.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to night two of the battles.
You made sure I'm on "The Voice.
" I said, "We're gonna need DJ Khaled.
You want to know why? 'Cause he got the keys.
" And I'm with the Keys.
You know what I'm saying? I am the Keys, and he got the keys.
Yeah, we got keys everywhere.
[Laughs.]
Daly: Now let's meet Alicia's first pairing of the night 27-year-old Chris Blue from Knoxville, Tennessee, versus 18-year-old RJ Collins from Chicago.
I'm wondering who that adviser is, though, man.
I can't I can't get it out of my head.
I'm, like, really, like I know.
nervous about it.
Somebody told me it was a she.
Might be a he.
[Laughs.]
You don't know.
I think it's a she.
[Dramatic music plays.]
There's RJ and Chris.
What's up? What's up? [Laughs.]
DJ Khaled.
What up, man? What?! Chris: Oh! What's up? You're the best, man.
No, we When I saw DJ Khaled, I about lost my mind.
He's a hit maker.
He's worked with Jay Z, Kanye.
He's all over the radio.
Alicia, that's DJ Khaled.
I know! That's Alicia Keys.
[Laughs.]
Alicia: I paired RJ and Chris together because they both have really beautiful, soulful voices, but in different ways.
RJ: It was tough being from a city full of violence.
My brother was killed by police in 2009.
That really gave me purpose to pursue everything that I could.
I just recently graduated high school.
I've been doing gigs.
"The Voice" gives me the perfect platform for the world to see what I have to offer.
You've given me purpose Your soul comes through this music, like, in a way that's really evident.
I want to push you 'cause there's obviously no limit to you.
I pick Alicia.
Come on, RJ! Oh! Chris: I'm currently a worship leader where I met my fiancée.
She was re-diagnosed with cancer.
I thought I lost her, so I decided I would make this woman my wife and I would try out for "The Voice.
" Take a good look at my face Wow.
It's good.
[Cheers and applause.]
All of our teams are full, except for Alicia.
And Alicia got really lucky, 'cause she was so patient.
Now, how did you learn all those tricks? From a lot of places God, my mama Yes! my family.
I was looking for someone who is a little bluesy and soulful, and boom.
[Cheers and applause.]
RJ, you did a very current song, and then you did a very classic song.
I wanted it to be something that felt classic but, at the same time, is current enough to be, like, who y'all are.
Did a good job with this one.
Thank you.
[Laughs.]
You just got to let my love Let my love Let my love adorn you Yeah.
RJ: When I first heard Chris sing, I was like, "Whoa.
This guy sounds like Smokey Robinson.
" You got to know So i-it kind of gave me a challenge.
Let it just adorn you You got to know Chris: RJ his tone, his runs was just like, "I don't know if I can do that.
" [Laughs.]
Definitely did a great job with that.
Thank you, man.
They got the face expressions, you know, the whole They feeling the vibe! That's a true R&B singer, man.
Y'all both had beautiful runs, but maybe, like, the first half, just kind of nail it, how you know it to be sung.
And then you go off and be yourself, maybe just experiment.
Cool.
I'm down with it.
Know that I adore you Good.
When artists take too much liberty, it just doesn't go over as well.
No, baby [Laughs.]
These fists DJ Khaled: First of all, I love that song.
You got two different voices.
One was going super high.
But I want to see it mesh together.
You feel like you're getting your falsetto in the end? Somewhat.
Felt like maybe that was where it could reveal.
Yeah.
Because, you know, you don't hear that a lot.
They get some time to practice a little more for tomorrow.
I can tell that's what it is.
RJ: Yeah.
We'll get it, we'll get it.
We gonna work.
Oh, we gonna work.
Hey.
Keep working it.
I'm coming at you, man.
Nice work, gentlemen.
They got good energy.
They're good.
They're gonna push each other.
Yeah.
Le-e-e-e-e-t Hey Let my love [Both vocalizing.]
[Laughs.]
I had to.
Sorry.
[Laughs.]
Alicia: RJ and Chris are cracking me up.
Like, the alpha-male thing is going on.
However that goes at the end there with all of the knives and guns y'all want to bring out, that's fine.
But that first one got to be right.
You good, Chris? 'Cause you don't have to be in your head.
Okay.
It reminds me, like, early '90s R&B, New Addition and Jodeci.
you know, Jodeci and Whoa.
I'm just being honest, you know? RJ, I felt like I was missing something from you yesterday, and today, I'm like, "Whoa.
" Thank you.
That means a lot.
Chris: You just got to let my love, let my love To win this battle, I got to think about my fiancée.
You got to know Because if she was able to beat cancer [sniffles.]
I've got to show her that she's not the only one who's able to fight.
The same way that the stars adorn the sky Alicia: They're both so good.
RJ almost has a feeling of, like, an Usher that would fit right into contemporary music right now.
The same way that my Chris is a Marvin Gaye throwback.
It's cool to see him bring classic style to this current song.
So it is a killer decision for me.
All right, y'all.
Feel good.
- Team Alicia! - Hey! Daly: Coming up Gwen: I was having a hard time focusing 'cause you look like a man.
You know what I mean? Hey, what the I don't even know if I was listening 'cause I was so mesmerized by your body.
Ooh.
[Alicia laughs.]
That is enough! [Laughter.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
[Dramatic music plays.]
Entering now from Team Alicia, it's the Tennessee worship leader, Chris Blue [Cheers and applause.]
Come on, Chris.
versus the young Chicago R&B vocalist.
Here's RJ Collins.
[Cheers and applause.]
[Laughs.]
Let the battle begin.
No-no-no-no, no, no-no-no, no, no, no These lips, ha Can't wait to taste your skin Baby, no And these These eyes can't wait to see your grin Oh, my baby Just let my love Just let my love adorn you Please, baby You gotta know Oh, know that I adore you Baby, these fists Will always protect you Ya-da-da, baby And this thing trying to break us down But don't let that affect us No, no, no, no, no, no, no You just got to let my love Let my love Let my love adore you Wow.
Ah, le-le-le-let it dress you down You got to know Know Know that I adore you Ha, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Just that, baby Oh, yeah The same way that the stars adorn the sky Look up, sugar Hey, hey, hey The same way that the whole world's in your eyes Ooh, and it's time now Let Let my love adore you Let my love adore you, baby Le-le-le-let it, let it, let it, let it dress you down Know that I adore you Know that I adore you Let my love Love Whoa, oh, o-o-o-o-oh Wow! [Cheers and applause.]
Daly: That is Chris and RJ in a battle for Team Alicia.
Whoo-hoo! [Laughs.]
Gwen.
Gwen: Chris, you let yourself completely get absorbed into the music, almost in an out-of-body experience.
And I'm watching your body movements.
And I don't even know if I was listening to your voice, 'cause I was so mesmerized by your body.
Ooh.
I don't I don't mean it like that.
Hey, what the I'm sorry, Blake.
I mean, the way you the way you It's hard to talk your way out of that one.
It's not even [Laughter.]
RJ, you are super gifted, as well.
I was having a hard time focusing, 'cause you kept distracting me.
[Laughs.]
What's your problem, man? What's your problem? I don't want any trouble.
No problem.
"Mesmerized by your body" is trending on Twitter right now.
[Laughs.]
RJ, your voice is so beautiful.
The way you worked the stage was super powerful.
But I feel like if I had to choose somebody, I would have to say Chris.
Adam? I was not mesmerized by either one of your bodies.
[Laughter.]
This was an interesting one.
Nerves got the best of you in the beginning, and it did get a little messy.
But But then you both got really comfortable.
Look, it's Miguel.
It's not easy to do that.
That all being said, I really thought it wound up being super even.
Gwen: Can I say one more thing? I hesitate to say yes to that, but yes.
[Laughter.]
RJ, I-I did not know you're 18 years old.
I mean, you look like a man.
You know what I mean? Thank you.
Once again, here we go.
[Laughter.]
You're so dumb.
Blake? RJ, your stage presence is incredible.
Thank you, thank you.
But I've been doing this long enough to know that I think Chris will be in the finale.
He's just got whatever that thing is.
By the way, I hope you're not available to steal, 'cause I'll probably lose my girlfriend.
[Laughter.]
She's gonna be like [Laughs.]
[Cheers and applause.]
Alicia, you've got the final decision.
I had a smell feeling this battle would cause a bit of a frenzy.
I want to see it again.
Like, it was so good.
I'm sure you do.
[Laughter.]
That is enough! [Laughter.]
That's funny.
But now back to my guys.
RJ, I was so taken by you not only for your voice, but the emotion that you had while you sang.
Thank you.
I really felt you.
[Cheers and applause.]
And, Chris, on the blinds, I said I know there's someone waiting for me, and I'm gonna just hold tight.
No one else was able to press, and they were pretty pissed.
I'm st I'm still whining about it.
[Laughter.]
I'm just so proud of you both, because this song really raised you up a lot.
There's definitely been this brotherly, kind of slightly aggressive type of battle energy, which is what this moment is about.
Tough decision, Alicia.
Who's the winner of this battle? [Suspenseful music plays.]
The winner of this battle is Chris.
Chris, you're moving on to the knockouts.
[Cheers and applause.]
Alicia: I really feel like Chris has a versatility that we have yet to scratch the surface.
Yeah, man.
It's my job to continue to help him evolve and show America how interesting he is.
Chris: I'm so excited to stay on Alicia's team.
I just want to prove that feeling that she had.
That was the right one.
RJ, anything you'd like to say to your coach? Yeah.
From the beginning, I-I never thought that I would even make it this far.
I learned so much.
I feel like I can do anything.
Thank you, really.
That's incredible.
That's incredible.
Thank you.
[Cheers and applause.]
Awesome, man.
Awesome.
Hey, that guy, Chris Oh, my God.
he's gonna win.
He's a killer.
Daly: As the night went on, our coaches were faced with more tough choices.
Entering the stage from Team Adam, Josh West versus Nala Price! [Howls.]
Everybody wants to rule the world Adam: Josh, I'm so proud o-of what I'm hearing and amazed by the power of your vocals.
The winner of this battle is Josh.
Josh is gonna move on to the knockouts.
You guys, this is a really good one.
Aaliyah Rose versus Savannah Leighton! I know I could treat you better than he can [Cheers and applause.]
Oh, my God.
Aaliyah, you are unbelievable.
That vibrato blows my mind.
So Thank you so much.
the winner of this battle is Aaliyah.
Daly: Aaliyah, congratulations.
You're gonna move on to the knockouts.
Alicia: Oh.
Oh.
Oh, that's so hard.
Entering from Team Blake, Andrea Thomas versus Micah Tryba.
What hurts the most was being so close You both killed it.
Andrea, it's that country thing that's just kind of built into you that we're just born with.
The winner of this battle is Andrea.
Daly: Andrea, congratulations.
You're moving on to the knockouts.
Coming up This performance is really gonna blow everybody away.
I used to think maybe you love me Like, you twirl her.
Oh And I'm walking on sunshine Whoa, oh, oh This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the battles.
See, we're not young, so we're not technically cool anymore.
I would speak for myself if I was you.
[Laughs.]
Sorry, we we may need a moment.
Daly: Now let's look at Blake's matchup 15-year-old Aliyah Moulden from La Habra, California, versus 18-year-old Dawson Coyle from Williamstown, New Jersey.
I honestly cannot believe that I'm here.
You look young.
How old are you? I'm 15.
I'm a sophomore in high school, so I think I have a lot more to prove 'cause I'm not as seasoned as a lot of the other performers.
You ain't nothing but a hound dog What?! How can that be you? What are they feeding these children? Alicia: I would love to help you so that you don't make the wrong choices.
She's right about making wrong choices.
[Whistles.]
Blake.
Yeah! Whoo! You picked me! I am a local boy from Jersey, and somehow I'm on "The Voice.
" This year, me and my parents had a devastating house fire.
We realized that life is precious and you need to take advantage of every single drop of it.
I got dreams in the dead of night Welcome you to "The Voice.
" You're on Team Ding Dong.
[Laughter.]
My favorite thing about your voice is how much passion you pour into your performance.
Dude, I believe you.
[Cheers and applause.]
Now my team is full! All right, all right.
Thanks.
Blake: Dawson versus Aliyah both incredible onstage.
I need to figure out which one of these two I'm gonna spend working with as my young pop artist.
Hey.
What's up? Oh, my gosh.
Our adviser was Luke Bryan.
Both: Are you excited? Yes.
Look at that smile.
[Laughs.]
Look at her.
She's just, like, walking around She's very happy.
She's walking on sunshine today.
Aliyah: He is a megastar.
He's won countless number-one hits.
But no pressure! No pressure.
I feel dumb asking you this, but I think I should.
Had you guys ever heard "Walking on Sunshine" before? Oh, yeah.
That song is three times as old as you are.
Blake: This song is full of energy and gives them a chance to, uh, show their stage presence.
Now every time I go for the mailbox Gotta hold myself down Aliyah: Dawson's voice is amazing.
It suits the song very well.
And I'm walking on sunshine Whoa, oh, oh Whoa.
I'm walking on sunshine Dawson: I was blown away.
She's just this small, little girl that's super-energetic, and then she just punches so hard with her voice.
Awesome.
Man, she doesn't need a microphone.
Felt like she parted my hair with that voice.
[Laughs.]
Sorry! Whoa.
Okay.
When you get to that chorus, you're so spot-on.
Thank you.
But you were pitchy on the verses.
Yeah.
You know, you don't want that to happen.
I don't Yeah.
Just have some fun with it.
Mm-hmm.
Every time I go to the mailbox Yeah.
Put personality.
Some of your brightness and your personality in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Dawson, stylistically, you've got a thing that's really good.
But sometimes a long bend of a note just sounds flat.
Always be thinking, "I got to get there.
" Dawson: Get to the note.
Cool.
Yeah.
Said I'm walking on sunshine Whoa, oh, oh Luke: Aliyah she was cute as a button, had a little twinkle in her eye.
She'll capture a lot of hearts out there.
And don't it feel good? Hey All right now And don't it feel good? Dawson he's just got a big, powerful, kind of a rocker voice.
Really, really impressive.
So I put them on a pretty even playing field.
I think it's about connecting on that.
I'm walking on sunshine Yeah Yeah.
I mean, that's gonna light up the dadgum room.
I don't want either one of the two of you to go home, so you got to do something in this performance maybe more than ever to stand out from the crowd.
I'm walking on sunshine Whoa, oh, oh Don't it feel good? Hey All right now This performance is really good, but you're getting tripped up a little.
You're staring at the page still.
Put your vocal stuff behind you, you're golden.
Yeah.
It goes from I used to think to I used to think maybe you love me Like, you twirl her, and you're flipping your dadgum hair, and y'all are like Yeah Like, get get your bodies into this thing.
Some of the biggest moments that have ever happened on this show were those unexpected moments that blows everybody away.
If they can start relaxing and moving with that song Ow it's gonna be hard for anybody to let them go.
Oh I'm on sunshine, baby, oh Blake: This performance is gonna come down to whoever has that energy that is infectious.
How'd I do? Incredible.
You like that? You just mentored people.
How does it feel? I'm walking on sunshine [Laughter.]
It's gonna be who has that "it" factor about them.
That's who's gonna win this battle.
This is tough stuff, man.
Yes, it is.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the battles.
[Suspenseful music plays.]
Aliyah: I'm one of youngest in the competition, and I'm hoping to prove to Blake that I'm worthy enough to be on his team.
It's just a dream come true, being here, and I'm not ready to go home.
Daly: Aliyah Moulden! [Cheers and applause.]
Dawson: Losing my home was the hardest experience I've ever had to go through.
I want to win this battle for my family and show them that I'm gonna pursue my dreams and I'm not letting this hold me back.
Daly: Dawson Coyle! [Cheers and applause.]

Daly: Just like that for Team Blake.
Give it up for Aliyah and Dawson.
You were having some fun there, Alicia.
Alicia: I loved it.
Your chemistry was amazing.
Aliyah, you had a great, awesome presence, and your tone of your voice was pure and strong, but it didn't overwhelm everything.
Dawson, you just totally have a charisma to you that I love.
Your voice is very clear and also precise.
You have a package thing going on with you that's awesome, so I don't know how to help you decide that.
[Laughter.]
But, uh What do you mean? Yes, you do.
You're Alicia Keys.
You're smart.
[Cheers and applause.]
That's true.
Don't help him.
Hey, Zack Morris, I'm not even talking to you right now.
I'm talking to Alicia.
[Laughter.]
Well, if I'm Zack Morris, you're my A.
C.
Slater.
[Laughter.]
That joke was, like, too old for me.
I didn't get it.
Aww! Ha! Oh, my gosh.
Well, back to trying to be helpful to you.
Yes.
Maybe in this case, I would choose Dawson.
[Cheers and applause.]
Gwen? Gwen: Dawson, I can see you're having a fun time with it.
It was theater.
Yeah.
I think that that was brave.
Aliyah, I just think you're adorable.
I love your spirit.
Thank you.
I love your energy, your confidence at such a young age.
I would probably hold on to her, but you guys both did an incredible job.
[Applause.]
Thank you, Coach.
Adam? Aaliyah, I remember the blinds, how great you were.
And something about you, Dawson.
Like, I want to hear more.
I want to see you perform.
And I think that's why I would choose Dawson right now, because this is a new discovery for me.
Thank you, Coach.
Blake, you've got the final decision.
Dawson opens a song, and people are hearing his voice and warming up to him.
There was already, like, a group of girls somewhere over here that were [Squealing.]
"There he is again!" [Laughter.]
And it was like, "Oh, my gosh.
This is how the momentum, the wave starts happening.
He looks like a young Russell Crowe.
Alicia: So that's cool.
He's a handsome dude.
Aliyah brings this energy, and I wasn't surprised to see the crowd reaction like [Gasps.]
There she is.
It's like she's special.
You both brought a youthfulness and fun, so I-I'm just gonna make my decision based on my gut.
[Suspenseful music plays.]
And that's telling me that the winner of this battle is Aliyah.
Aliyah, congratulations.
You won.
You're moving on to the knockouts, representing Team Blake.
[Cheers and applause.]
Blake: There's just something so special about the way that Aliyah performs.
I get wrapped up in it.
How you doing, baby girl? Awesome! I think moving forward, we just got to keep her in that energetic performance lane, and and I think people are gonna fall in love with it.
Coaches, let me remind you, Dawson is available to steal.
Dawson, anything you want to say to Coach? Blake, you pushed me to be a better vocalist, and I just can't thank you enough for the the wisdom you've given me.
Yes, sir.
Ladies and gentlemen, Dawson Coyle! [Cheers and applause.]
What?! Daly: We got a steal! Alicia Keys! Wow! [Laughs.]
Thank you so much.
Yeah! [Laughs.]
That's how I feel.
Welcome back.
That was really scary.
That gave me a heart attack.
[Laughter.]
What was it about Dawson that you want him on your team? I just really felt an energy from you that was really pure and strong.
And you have your own world and your own slot on my team, and I think that the ladies are gonna just eat you alive.
Dawson, congratulations, man.
[Cheers and applause.]
Dawson: Working with Blake has been the biggest experience ever.
Being able to work with Alicia now is gonna be life-changing.
[Cheers and applause.]
Wow.
That was so sweet.
I know.
I just felt it.
Were you that surprised? The look on your face, you Gwen was like I almost had a heart attack when that thing busted.
I was like "Oh, my God.
What's going on?" I was just not expecting it.
