Patel Motel Cartel

[SOUNDS OF KIDS PLAYING.]
[KNOCKING.]
You can't hide in there forever.
[BELLS JINGLING.]
AHANA: Oh, my God, I love this song.
SONYA: You keep spinning like that, you're going to make yourself dizzy.
AHANA: Getting dizzy is the best part.
A natural high.
Ahana! Oh, my God, my baby.
What happened? It's nothing, Mom.
SONYA: Explain now.
Josh and I got into it after the match.
KRISH: He started it.
He told me I was too much of a spaz to play goalkeeper or any other position on the team.
Then he jumped me, but not before I got a hit in.
Good.
He deserves it.
Now you can quit that stupid team and focus on what you're good at.
Not the point, Ahana.
It's exactly the point.
He hates soccer.
The only reason he plays is because he's trying to fit in with the school jocks.
What's wrong with trying to fit in? AHANA: Everything.
Especially when you reject all the things that make you unique.
By unique, you mean weird.
AHANA: No, Krish.
Listen to me, I know what you're going through.
Your sister's right.
There will be people in your life who make you feel small and different.
SONYA: You need to learn how to control your temper.
AJAY: It's never okay to respond to hate with more hate.
SONYA: You need to be true to who you are.
All right, I get it! But I don't need to be ganged up on again, especially by my own family.
Son, listen.
Your 13th birthday's around the corner.
I'm sure you're seeing a lot of changes in your body Dad, do not give me the "your body is changing" talk.
Not now.
Fine.
But there are consequences for fighting.
You'll be folding towels after school for the rest of the month.
Starting tonight.
If it makes you feel any better I made you your favorite for dinner.
Chicken biryani.
I'm not hungry.
[DOOR SLAMS.]
[MACHINE WHIRRING.]
[SIGHS.]
You know, if you ask me I think the black eye's a big improvement.
No one's asking you.
Mom and Dad send you here to scold me some more? No.
For real, I'm glad you hit Josh.
Someone needed to wipe the smile off that troglodyte's face.
But? But I don't think Josh is the problem.
Why would you toss this? This is amazing.
You have something special inside of you, you just don't know it yet.
Anyway, if you're done having your pity party, Mom made you a plate and put it in the fridge.
[SIGHS.]
You know, I don't understand why gym is a valid subject.
Like, I can't control my athletic ability.
Yeah, but you can improve it.
I want to drop these towels off.
AJAY: This should get you started, but don't hesitate to call if you need anything.
Come here.
Drive safe.
SONYA: And call us when you get there.
[CAR ENGINE STARTS.]
Come on in.
[PHONE RINGING.]
Look at this meme my friend set me.
Front desk, how may I help you? We'll be right there.
The shower head's busted in room 112.
There's water everywhere.
I'll get my toolkit.
Ahana, get the maid.
It's going to be a big cleanup job.
Krish, stay by the desk.
But remember, do not Check in anyone.
I'm not old enough to do that yet.
I know.
[BEEPING.]
[GASPS.]
Sorry.
Bell must be broken.
I didn't hear you come in.
Aren't you kind of young to be running a motel? It's my parents'.
I just kind of help out.
On a Friday night.
JD: That sucks.
Shouldn't you be hanging out with your friends? I get it.
Junior high's brutal.
Plenty of nights I came home with one of those.
Really? Oh yeah.
I was bullied for my clothes, my braces.
Everything.
What'd you do? I kicked their asses.
See you kick enough ass, the bullies back off.
Trust me.
Sign says you have a vacancy.
Yeah, we do.
But only my parents can check in guests.
They should be back soon.
Come on, dude.
Can't you help me out? I mean I'd get in trouble and I just It's okay.
I think you've had enough trouble for one day.
[DOOR BELLS JINGLE.]
Wait.
Room 237.
Checkout is 11:00.
Appreciate this.
Hey.
You know those bullies we were talking about? I can show you how to put them in their place.

It might come in handy one day.

[GRUNTING.]

It was just a joke.
You've been so aggro since you started puberty.
[SIGHS.]
You suck.
[DOOR BELLS JINGLE.]
Hey, don't forget about the towels.
Sir, the parking lot's for guests only.
I'm a guest.
Kid at the front desk checked me in.
AJAY: That would be my son, and he knows not to check in guests without us.
There's six motels within a mile from here.
What brought you to ours? I heard this place was special.
Sir, I'm going to need you to come to the office with me to properly check in.
[GROWLING SOUNDS.]

I didn't.
[GRUNTING.]

[DOOR BELL JINGLES.]
Hey, have you seen Dad? We can't find him anywhere.
I haven't seen him for at least a half hour.
That's the third time I've tried his cell.
He's probably just caught up doing his nightly checks.
Obsessing over a squeaky door hinge.
Ahana, how about you and I go track him down, okay? You can stay at the front desk, right Krish? Sure.
Here's the master keys in case there's an emergency.
[DOOR BELLS JINGLE.]

A power inside of you.
You just need to stop fighting it and let it flow.

[HEAVY CRASHING.]
[IN DEMONIC VOICE.]
I'm going to enjoy bleeding you dry.
[HEAVY POUNDING.]
AHANA'S VOICE: Krish, listen to me.

[LAUGHING.]
[SONYA AND AHANA COUGHING.]
[LAUGHING.]
Don't let this whole hero thing get to your head.
You're still my dorky little brother.
[LAUGHING.]
So all our guests are like us from other worlds? The Patel Motel isn't just a place for people to sleep.
It's a way station for aliens coming to earth who need help transitioning into society.
The one thing I still don't get is why JD targeted us.
Our blood is special.
Aliens like JD need what's in our blood to survive on earth.
Plus, let's be real.
There are jerks like JD all over the universe.
Speaking of jerks, maybe I should try out a few of my new tricks on Josh.
- No.
- No.
[DOOR BELL JINGLES.]
AHANA: Customer.
I'll check them in.
Son, why don't you check them in? I thought I was too young.
We trust you.
[LAUGHS.]
Just one? [GASPS.]
[IN DEMONIC VOICE.]
It's not going to be that easy to get rid of me.
