- So, what can you tell me about this guy? - His name is Kevin Grant.
He's a PFC in the 64th Infantry.
He was wounded three weeks ago in a gunfight outside Tikrit.
He was shipped home last week.
When his shoulder heals and he clears medical next month, he'll go back to his unit in Iraq.
And what about post-traumatic stress? He was given full medical and psych evaluations in Ramstein.
But sometimes that can set in later.
How well do you know him, Capt.
Meyers? I don't, actually.
I've been assigned to fact-check the recommendation for his medal.
He's up for the Bronze Star.
When I checked with his fiancée this morning she said she hadn't seen or heard from him in 24 hours, so I called you.
- And where is she? - She's inside.
I figured you'd want to question her first.
He also has a brother, an older brother, who works at Basic Buys on Hennessy.
I'll go talk to him.
- Are you coming, Captain? - I spoke with her.
I think she will be more forthcoming without me around.
Not too fond of the military? - The ones left behind usually aren't.

He's a different person since he came back.
He can't sleep.
He has these terrible nightmares.

Then Iraq happened, and he got called up from the reserves.

The only person he really talks to is Chuck Whiting.
- And who's that? - It's one of his army buddies.
He got shipped back last week, too.

He was at the house the night before Kevin disappeared.

Why does Meyers bring you in if he's gonna hold something back? He wants us to find Grant but doesn't want us to know why it's so important to Army.
The fiancée wasn't lying to you.
They are maxed out on their credit cards.
They're three payments late on their mortgage.
She's making $21,000 a year.
He's not making much more than that.
It's not pretty.
That's not much of a homecoming.
If I were him, I might just get into my car and drive and not look back.
This guy's not a career soldier.

He's been there way longer than he thought he was going to be.
My guess is he wanted to get his life back together as quickly as possible.

And I just talked to the Bureau liaison in Baghdad.
Apparently, there's a lot of questions about that ambush in Tikrit.
Kevin's platoon commander has been saddled with desk duty ever since and pending an investigation, could be facing a court-martial.
And Chuck Whiting was discharged without honors.
Obviously, the Army thinks something's up, but they can't prove it.
Or they're trying to sweep something under the rug.
Whatever it is, it all leads back to that ambush.
Chuck Whiting just showed up at his building, spotted the local PD and took off.
- They gave chase but lost him.
- At least we know he's still alive.
Hope we can say the same for Kevin.
Did you know that Kevin's platoon commander was relieved of his duties? Specialist Clay mentioned that to me when I saw him at the hospital.
- I wasn't aware that you'd spoken to Clay.

He drove right into an ambush.
It happens all the time around here but this time, it really looks like it could've been avoided.

So then, he's Whiting's accomplice? Those two were cooking up something the night before Kevin disappeared.
