Wizard Wars (2014) s01e06 Episode Script

Birds Of A Feather

Let's hear it for our Wizards.
Justin Flom, Angela Funovits, Gregory Wilson, and Shimshi.
I'm Ellen Fox and welcome to "Wizard Wars.
" Here's how "Wizard Wars" works.
Teams of magicians are given everyday objects that they must turn into world-class magic.
Today two teams of top magic creators will compete against each other in the Challenger Round.
The team that wins the Challenger Round will advance to face a team of our Wizards in round two, the Wizard War.
If the challengers can outperform the Wizards, they're pocketing $10,000.
Our first judges need no introduction, they've been named Las Vegas Magicians of the Year an unbelievable seven times.
Penn and Teller.
Our next judge is an honest to goodness astronomer and also a brutally honest magic critic.
Christen Gerhart.
Our final judge is an illusionist who likes to blend science with magic.
Jason Latimer.
Now for our first team of challengers.
He's an award-winning magician and he's the NBA's go-to guy for halftime magic shows.
Joseph Reohm.
Over a year ago I was involved in a really bad injury.
My arms caught fire and burned 98% of every layer of skin off my right hand.
The doctors say, "You might lose your hand.
" I get a little emotional about it 'cause I've got my hands working again.
I couldn't be happier with that, you know? Teaming up with Joseph is a guy who calls himself the most famous Scottish/Asian entertainer in the world.
Naathan Phan.
"Wizard Wars" is the perfect show for me because it's really about how a magician can succeed.
You give them these strange challenges, these parameters, and it's about them finding a way to break out of that and succeeding within those parameters.
Let's meet the competition.
She's the first woman ever to win the World Team Magic Seminar in Las Vegas.
Ohio's own Shayna Reed.
My magic does reflect my personality.
It's very colorful.
It's very fun.
I'm looking forward to being on the show and competing and pulling out of my comfort zone a little bit.
So this will be a challenge.
And teaming up with Shayna is a guy who started doing magic in the Army and went on to win "Military's Got Talent," leading to show-stopping performances on "America's Got Talent.
" William Scott Anderson.
Performing for my fellow servicemen and being able to provide an escape for these men and women while I was in Iraq and Afghanistan was truly special for me.
I'm on this show to show others that you can still grow up and follow your dreams.
Here's how the Challenger Round is going to work.
Each team will be given three of the same everyday objects.
Each of them must be used at least once in a routine.
You will also be judged on three criteria.
Creativity, deception, and showmanship.
Object one, birds.
Object two, big ole cereal boxes.
And object three, toilet paper.
All right, Joseph and Naathan are up first.
They've already built their routine, so let's take a look at how they did it.
You said you do a little bit of dove stuff, right? Yeah, actually, I've been working with birds for a little over 12 years.
Wow, that's much longer than me.
- Smell the rose.
- Mm-hmm.
Then maybe just do a cool little - Ooh.
All right.
- you know, type of thing.
And then maybe we can do a thing where we slowly tear the petals open.
Okay.
A bird from an object is always nice, but, I mean, having a bird come out of nowhere, I think that's even a I think that's even better.
Oh.
Next, the guys toy around with the cereal boxes.
I think that the best way to approach this type of thing is to make it like a sketch.
- What if we sell something? - Okay, maybe, we are magicians trying to sell a cereal.
And then maybe we can do a running gag like a production box - type thing.
- We can show it empty - That would be nice.
- But there is this issue.
This is the challenge.
Will they be able to wipe up the floor with the competition? There's a lot of stuff we can do with it, but to tie it into the act we're doing, we'll just have to figure that out.
All right, our first team of challengers is Joseph and Naathan.
Thank you.
Well, my name is Joseph Reohm and for the next 95 minutes I get to introduce you to a brand-new brand - of "Fool-dini's Magic Cereal.
" - Along with me Naathan Pham.
Confetti.
Naathan, thrilled.
So what have we got for our customers today, Joseph? Fool-dini's Magic Cereal.
The best and the last box of cereal you'll ever need to buy.
You call right now and you're gonna get a king-sized pack of cereal.
Just like that.
But hold on, pump the brakes, bull riders.
If you call in the next two to three years, you're gonna get one for the house, on the house.
Another bag of cereal.
Kids sure do love their sugary cereals almost as much as the prizes they get inside.
So Fool-dini's is now including a free stuffed animal in every box of Fool-dini's Magic Cereal.
Well, nobody knows kids better than Fool-dini's Magic Cereal, and if your kids are anything like me Messy and disgusting.
They're gonna get a gift as well as the parents.
A new broom so those kids can clean up their room.
Things are getting crazy around here, but I have a question for you gentlemen out there.
Are you sick and tired of bringing your girlfriend the same old bouquet of flowers? I know I'm sure sick and tired of bringing your girlfriends the same old bouquet of flowers.
Right? It's so unoriginal.
Bring her something romantic.
Something like maybe a full glass of wine, ladies full glass of wine.
There you go.
If you call right now and mention my name, Joseph Reohm, you're gonna get a Fool-dini's sports magazine.
That's not good? You're gonna get another sports magazine.
How about a whole year's subscription of sports magazines? Is that good? Is that a good enough offer, buddy? You can make that call, just pick up the phone and dial.
The sports magazine's a little better if you're a boring person, but some of us like to go out and play sports.
So if you call and mention my name, Naathan Phan, you'll get, absolutely free, a golf ball! - A golf ball? A golf ball? - That's not good enough? Hold out your hands, then.
How about maybe you like a different sport.
Bowling! How's that for you? You're probably at home right now or in our audience wondering, "How are they cramming so much magic in this Fool-dini's Magic Cereal?" Nobody else really knows how to do it.
Only two people in the world know how this is done.
First of all, it's how we pack our boxes.
We do it from the side, not the tops and bottoms like Joseph, they built these for us, they're not part of the act.
I don't care.
Dude, just get in the box.
- No, I don't think - Just get in the box, man.
Set dressing.
- Improve, just go with it.
They'll like it - I'm sure.
So first of all, when you're making our cereal we gotta have something magical, like a magician or a unicorn, you cram it in the box.
We cram it in the box.
You cram it in the box! No, I told you I'm claustrophobic.
Don't Then what we oh, almost forgot you're gonna need something.
Joseph.
Let me out right now.
You're probably wondering why, but if it's up to me - What's this for? - you'll be in there for a very long time.
And then what we do is we carefully transport the box.
Hey, Joseph, ow! Naathan, you're gonna feel like a two to three-foot fall.
- Naathan, you're gonna feel this.
- Uggh.
What we do is we transport it to our warehouse, we then cram all of our prizes and cereal inside.
Let me out! Seriously! And then what we do is we vacuum seal it.
We very carefully vacuum seal it.
Naathan, you feeling that? Joseph, no, don't You feel this? - Then what we do - What are you doing over there? Ladies and gentlemen, call the number on the bottom of your screen right now - and you can get yourself some - Oh, Naathan, toilet paper.
I've got sorry about that.
So, call the number on the bottom of your screen right now and we're gonna give you guys a little something extra.
We'll throw in, absolutely free, this very special collector's edition box with very special black art uh, back art.
My apologies.
And call within the next 10 minutes, be the first 100 callers, and you will get a free magic pet as well.
That's not a deal, that's a steal.
And we'll take care of the taxes, so you can relax.
So, ladies and gentlemen, order Fool-dini's Magic Cereal and start your day the magic way.
Thank you very much.
Let's hear what the judges have to say.
Christen.
First off, I like the story.
The selling kind of thing.
I liked the salesman aspect of it.
I liked that you used the one little box and everything kept coming out of it and that was cool.
Yes, there were a couple of flashes, that's chalked up to practice.
I wish the toilet paper was used more magically in this routine 'cause I almost missed it.
I loved the doves at the end coming out of the box.
That was a perfect way to end it.
Really great job, guys.
The idea of doing the infomercial with magic so that you had a reason to keep producing stuff from it was really a great idea.
It wasn't very deceptive, but the showmanship brought us through it.
I love the double bird appearance at the end.
I thought the first bird made us go, "Wow, that's great.
" And I think the two birds made us go, "Wow, that's awesome.
" And major props on trying to do the teleportation.
It's not easy to do that on a stage you've never been on, but the fact that you went for it, great job, guys.
We are very fond of two men of different sizes working together.
We also like very much that you threw birds at us.
That's, uh wasn't so much producing them as just throwing birds at us.
There's something that seems like the people's way to do it.
We loved the little in-joke and the wink of you saying the word "steal" right when he did the bird steal.
Don't think that slid by us.
We loved it.
Coming up Appears to be the royal flush of toilet paper tricks.
Scott and Shayna heat things up.
I cooked her! Will the judges like what they see? I actually like you guys going for it.
That's what this show's about.
Welcome back to "Wizard Wars.
" We are midway through the Challenger Round where two teams of world-class magic creators must turn the same three everyday objects into epic routines.
The winner will meet our Wizards in the Wizard War for a chance to win $10,000.
William Scott Anderson and Shayna Reed are up next.
And they've already built their routine, so let's see how they did it.
- Yeah, let's get the doves out.
- Sure.
- I don't think he likes you.
- The dove actually, no, they generally don't.
- They don't like me at all.
- No.
Do you want me to get it? - With the birds in hand - We have a box.
Shayna makes a discovery that gives Scott an idea.
We can use that microwave with one of the birds.
I don't think it's plugged in.
But they need to modify the microwave to make their box trick work.
Now it's time to put it all together.
Think we'll be able to pull this off? All right, Shayna and Scott, it's go time.
The stage is yours.
We just got back from the grocery store, so if you don't mind, we're gonna unpack.
And I just absolutely love these big box stores.
They have everything you need.
You can find we got cereal, we got toilet paper, - got some purple stuff.
- Scott, what is this? That appears to be the royal flush of toilet paper tricks.
Enough of that, I'm starving.
Let's eat.
Very interesting here.
Is that a bird? Yeah, it looks like a little prize.
- That's weird.
- I remember when the prizes in cereal were so much better.
- I know.
- When I was a kid, we'd get action figures - we'd get cars.
- I don't know, this prize kind of sucks.
Not only does that prize suck, I think this cereal sucks.
- Really? - Now that's a prize! It's really cute.
He would go really well with my other doves at home.
I don't know how we'd tell them apart, but - Well, let's mark him.
We'll mark him.
- Okay.
- Make sure we know that that bird - That's a good idea.
- is one of a kind.
- Yeah.
Ma'am, will you do me a favor and take these ribbons? We'll let you guys see the inside of the cereal box.
Go ahead dump those ribbons inside please.
Perfect.
Sir, will you do me a favor? Reach inside, pull out any ribbon.
- Perfect.
Now, ma'am, what is your name? - Kassandra.
Kassandra, would you mind standing up for us, and go ahead and signing your name really big, or as big as you can, to that ribbon? Excellent.
Thank you, Kassandra, very much.
Now, folks, we're gonna gently tie the ribbon around the foot of our dove.
Now, honey, why don't you go ahead and finish taking care of the groceries and I'll fix lunch.
Okay, sure.
Now, kids don't try this at home.
So what do you think we should name her? I think we should name her Peta.
Oh, like the guy from that movie? What? No.
Not from the movie because Peta stands for "People Eating Tasty Animals.
" No, you are not cooking Peta.
Oh, no, I'm not cooking Peta.
I cooked her.
- What is wrong with you? - I am hungry.
I'm absolutely famished.
I cannot believe you cooked our bird.
- What'd you do that for? - You cooked our bird.
Of course I cooked our bird.
Are you really that upset? - Yes, I am.
- Well, I guess I gotta fix this.
A wise man once told me that "a happy wife equals a happy life.
" So if we can take that bird and give her right back.
It came off of her foot, but, sir, will you do me a favor and read out loud what is written on the ribbon? - Kassandra.
- Kassandra, that is your name! Ladies and gentlemen, we have Peta! Aww, it really is Peta.
But, honey, I wanted the prize.
Well - you can have that.
- Well, thank you.
Thank you, folks.
All right, let's find out what the judges thought of your performance.
- Penn.
- We always like death and resurrection.
Kill something and bring it back to life.
It is a time-honored magic trick.
Liked that part of it a lot.
I liked the couple unpacking groceries.
I would say the major problem that we found with this was just pacing.
There was time in there where if you need time for the trick, you need to write more to say.
There were just times when we're just waiting for the next thing to happen.
Would've liked a snappier pacing.
I agree with the pacing.
Especially when you were tying the ribbon on the dove's foot.
There was nothing said.
Just silence.
I didn't love the first dove pull, but that last dove pull was awesome.
So overall, I think it was really enjoyable.
With the toilet paper suspension, I guess you would call it, that was something I probably wouldn't have thought of.
Just suspending it out in air.
I thought that was really an interesting way to go.
The fact that you just went for it.
Just like you went for trying to make a dove appearance using the cereal as cover.
The problem with the great idea for cover is it left it all across the floor and I caught that as very distracting as we crunched from one step to the other.
But as far as the creativity, I actually like you guys going for it.
That's what this show's about.
It's about trying to think outside the box.
I liked it.
Thank you.
The judges will decide which team of challengers will advance to the Wizard War right after this.
Coming up You guys wanna see some magic? Justin shows off his brand of street magic.
And later That's the point, yes? the Wizards put on a mesmerizing performance.
You guys wanna see a mind-reading duck? Welcome back to "Wizard Wars.
" Two teams of challengers just unveiled unbelievable magic routines using the same three everyday objects.
Now it's time to find out which team won and will face two of our in-house Wizards in the Wizard War for a chance to win $10,000.
Penn, who's moving on? Well, when it all comes down to the whole thing, Scott and Shayna, as good as the tricks were, a little bit slow.
And whenever you guys, Joseph and Naathan, whenever the stuff was a little bit by the numbers, at least you were going really, really fast.
And there were some very good jokes in there.
So, unanimously, we go with Naathan and Joseph.
Congratulations, Joseph and Naathan.
It's time for the Wizard War.
Joseph and Naathan, you will face two of our Wizards.
If you can out-perform them, you're headed home with $10,000.
In this round, each team must use these four random items at least once in their routine.
A dictionary, a jar of earthworms, a confetti shooter, and a kiddie pool filled with rubber duckies.
Wizards, two of you will take on Joseph and Naathan.
I'll give you a moment to decide who it's going to be.
Well, the dictionary immediately has got mentalism.
I got the dictionary.
- Earthworms I can see you doing.
- Why me? - I'm the slimy guy? - All right, Wizards, enough.
Who's headed to tonight's Wizard War? It's gonna be me and Gregory.
- You and Gregory.
- Yes, dear.
All right, well, we have confetti, you might as well get the party started.
As you know, upstairs we have a workshop and a magic shop and everything you'll need to turn these everyday objects into world-class magic.
Challengers, you're up first, so head on up! All right, now where can we look for some magic while the challengers are preparing their routines? Hmm.
Justin? Shimshi? - I'll take this.
- Sure.
Absolutely.
You guys wanna see some magic? Thank you, Ellen.
Let's bring the magic right down to you.
- Hi there.
What's your name? - Simone.
Simone? Nice to meet you, Simone.
- Can we refill your Pepsi for you? - Sure.
All right, let's do that.
Can I borrow your bottle of water? Perfect.
We're gonna use this for it.
I want you guys to watch the water in the Pepsi bottle.
Watch it close.
We get it just in the right light, it can almost start to look darker.
See this? Will actually start to look like Pepsi, but I can see you right there.
Hi there.
Right there, go ahead and take a sip.
Take a sip.
- Taste like Pepsi? - Yeah.
It does.
Give him a big round of applause.
Let him hear you.
Let's try one more thing.
Hi there.
What's your name? - Christina.
- Christina.
Hi, how are you? Are you done with this? Can I oops, sorry.
I am now.
Let's see if we can help you out here.
I want you to watch the dents in the can.
Watch the dents in the can.
Look at this.
Dents pop out.
You guys act like that happens every day.
All right, fine.
Watch the hole.
Watch the hole.
Uh, we're going to do this.
I want you to imagine I want you to imagine that Pepsi filling up until it's full.
That is for you.
Let's hear it for Justin, everyone.
The challengers are going to have to get extremely creative with those random objects if they want to outperform our Wizards.
Let's sneak a peek at how they're doing.
What if we do something like a bullet catch? Just to be crazy, I want you to hit me with one of those.
Go ahead.
Just Okay.
Hurts a little bit.
They're tiny little worms.
That's even worse 'cause then they can get into orifices.
Well, they can if you go like this.
Ah! Don't no! No! I think if we do this I feel bad doing this dictionary.
All right, what do you think about this? Whoa.
Whoa, okay, whoa.
Hi there, little buddy.
- Yeah.
Hey.
- He can fly already.
- Yeah, he can.
- Whoa.
Can they get all their ducks in a row? I like all the components we have, but how are we gonna put it all together? Duck tape.
- Coming up - Confetti! Yeah! Naathan and Joseph put on a hilarious comedy act.
We have ducks with numbers.
Wow.
Wowie, wow, wow.
Welcome back, everyone.
Time for the main event.
The Wizard War.
The challengers are up first.
There's $10,000 to be had if they can beat out our Wizards.
The judges are looking for the best routine using the same four everyday objects.
Joseph and Naathan, take it away.
Confetti! Yeah! Perfect, all right.
We got that one out of the way really early.
Perfect, we're set now.
Oh, act no, we can't count that as magic.
- It was just confetti.
- Well, I know.
Confetti is the unicorn of paper.
We've had these magician practical jokes throughout this whole time we've been on "Wizard Wars.
" Backstage I was listening to him entertain the crew with these voices.
He was doing impersonations and he was doing very good accents.
I jotted down, just for fun, a list of countries that I know some of them he could do and a list of celebrities I heard a couple of him do.
But some of them I don't know if he can do so we're going to do a little improve.
Sir, can you do me a favor? What's your name? Jake, can you hold on to that? When I yell, "New voice," yell out any one of those countries or celebrities.
- Okay.
- Well, let's practice.
New voice.
All right, folks, so, for this magic trick, here's what we're gonna do.
This is some wild and weird stuff.
We have here a "Webster's Ninth Collegiate Dictionary.
" Uh, we're gonna have someone help us out with that.
Let's see.
I'm just gonna make my way back over here.
Uh, hello, what's your name? Jen, thank you very much for helping out.
Hold on to the dictionary.
In a moment you'll get some numbers, flip to that page.
Thank you, Jen.
Can I get somebody else? I need somebody to take care of this key.
Can I trust you'll hold on to that key? What's your name? Jason, hold on to that.
We're gonna need it a little bit later, but you go and hold on to that.
New voice.
- German.
- Achtung! Okay.
We need one more person to help us out up here.
How about what is your name? Andrea.
Would you like to help us out, Andrea? Come here.
Come, come, come.
- Andrea, you can stand right here for me.
- Right here.
Right there, we don't want to block the star here.
I'd reach for the confetti, but I'd get the "geshlapo" across my face.
Now just so you guys Give me one more.
New voice.
Christopher Walken.
Christopher Walken.
Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see, we got ducks with numbers.
Wow! Wowie, wow, wow.
Got ducks with different numbers.
Can you do me a favor? I don't want you seeing the numbers.
Can you please look back there? We're gonna go ahead and mix 'em all up so nobody knows the order of these numbers and the ducks.
They're gonna go into the pool.
We'll mix 'em all up.
Here's the name of the game.
We cannot know the numbers.
You guys can't know the numbers that she selects.
And for goodness' sakes, don't duck it up.
Hey, we're on national TV.
No fowl language.
So without touching, just point to any duck.
- Any rubber duck.
That one? - You positive? This one, I'm gonna grab him just by the tip.
- All right - Position number one.
another duck.
Pick another one.
- That one right there? - Wow, that's a good choice.
Rubber Duckie, you're the one.
You make bath time And one more, please.
One more duck.
Any one.
Any one of them.
- That one.
- Perfect.
This one right here.
Give her a big round of applause.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, Andrea.
I'm gonna flip these over one at a time.
Each number the numbers are going to reveal a page number.
We've got 273.
Can you please flip to page 273? Just pick the first entry on there, but don't say it out loud.
- Please don't say it out loud.
- Only in your mind, please.
Very good, now just hold on to that for a minute.
And I've got some friends of my own down here.
These are real earthworms.
Now this is a mind-reading earthworm.
He's gonna go into their little makeshift bag here.
But one worm is not gonna read our minds.
They can only read another worm's mind, so we're gonna have to use a bunch of worms.
They say two heads are better than one.
In this case, 300 heads are better than two.
The word, you have the word? For the first time, can you yell it out? - Conclusion is the first entry on that? - Yup.
That's a long word for worms.
Here, can we go back over the bowl here? Hold that out, don't drop them.
Keep it he can hang out that's - You guys see that? - Ladies and gentlemen Can you do me a favor? Just please come up this way.
- It was Jason, right? - Yes.
Jason, please come up this way with the key.
And to prove that the psychic earthworms knew, they wrote us a little message that we have over here in a glass box.
It's been sitting here the whole time.
Sealed for your protection.
A note from my little friends.
I don't know what it says, - but we can find out.
- We do not want to open it.
Would you do me a favor? I want you to do this.
We don't want to touch it.
Just open it up and can you please read out loud the note from the worms.
Okay.
- We'd like to give a worm thanks - Wait, wait.
- Those worms are so funny.
- Wow.
Keep going.
We'd like to give a worm thanks to Jake for shouting out Johnny Carson, German, and Chris Walken.
We'd also like to thank Andrea for picking ducks 2, 7, and 3.
Finally, thanks to the pretty lady for picking the word "confetti.
" Wait, wait.
Confetti? Oh, it's the worms.
They have a hard time with small common words.
I think it's supposed to say, "picking the word on confetti".
On the confetti.
You see, at the beginning we came out, we threw a ton of confetti all over you guys.
If you don't notice, look at every single piece of confetti.
Every single piece has the word "conclusion.
" Just so you know.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is our conclusion.
Let's hear what the judges have to say.
Jason, what did you think? One of the big fears of magicians is that the audience will get ahead of us.
We're the ones walking you down a path.
We're supposed to be the one in front.
By throwing out all that confetti with that word on it man, do you guys have guts.
As soon as I caught up to you guys and saw that word sitting on the floor staring at me literally, I jumped out of my seat.
I just love that ending mainly because you showed us that you were ahead of us from the very first second you started the show.
Thank you so much for a great show.
Once you had said, "Confetti, the unicorn of paper," you need not do any more for me.
Everything else was just gravy.
This time you took an improvisational exercise, of changing voices and going through and you did a wonderful job at that except using that as the prediction never crossed my mind that that would fold in.
Teller said to me that he would've paid money to see you guys.
And Teller doesn't pay money for anything.
So, I mean, that was a routine that didn't have I think for the first time we've seen this, there wasn't an instant that was awkward.
You're comedy magicians who are funny and do baffling magic.
Can't do better than that.
I love that you brought in a non magical talent that you have and it freakin' works.
And it was awesome! Those impressions were amazing.
The confetti was brilliant.
I did not see that coming a million miles away.
I thought when you brought out the confetti, I was like, "Okay, I guess they're just gonna bring it out early.
Cool, there it is.
" Such guts to come out there and do it and not have anybody look at it.
None of us looked at the confetti.
And I'm thinking, "Why didn't I look at the confetti?" 'Cause you don't! It melted my brain with that.
It was fantastic and I loved every second of it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Coming up Only you would train some worms.
The Wizards make brilliant use of the earthworm.
I didn't touch a thing.
- Will it pay off in the end? - This is a great trick.
Welcome back to "Wizard Wars.
" Now, the Wizards already prepped their routine, so let's take a peek behind the curtain.
Anything hit you with the dictionary? The thing that comes to mind is a book test, - but obviously that's kind of predictable.
- It's a prediction.
- We already know you're working on the worms.
- You're working on the worms.
- We've established that you're the worm girl.
- You're working on the worms.
You're officially the worm man.
I'm gonna do the worms, you do the ducks.
- Maybe put some numbers on the ducks.
- Okay.
What are you going to do with these things, Greg? I'm thinking about training the worms or something.
I don't know, that's the first thought that comes to mind.
Only you would train some worms.
As home base for their prediction routine, Gregory builds a table leaving Angela to figure out the confetti shooters.
We should test these things out.
And it should make a lot of noise.
That's the noise? Will they go out with a bang? - We need to make noise.
- Yeah.
Wizards, you got a confetti shooter.
Time to blow us away.
What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name's Angela Funovits and this is my friend Gregory Wilson.
He's a master of deception and an underground pickpocket.
Speaking of underground, I can teach anybody to become a professional pickpocket.
Even these lowly earthworms.
Watch this.
We're gonna use this wallet right here to demonstrate the pickpocketing.
That's exactly where these worms come in.
Watch very close.
I'm gonna teach you how it works from the ground up.
Don't look away at the lovely disgustingness of it all.
You can see they're live earthworms.
I'm gonna teach you how the pickpocketing works with my partners here.
Here we go, just like we rehearsed it, guys.
Let's go.
Are you ready? Come on now.
Drop and give me 20.
Let's go.
Push it, push it, push it, you slimy little maggots.
Let's go! You don't know your head from your tail.
Push! Push! Push! There we go, look! Push! Push! That's how it works right there! Boom! Now for the money.
Now for the money! Go for the cash.
Go for the cash.
Come to Papa.
Come to Papa.
Like we rehearsed it.
Come to Papa.
Come to Papa! Right over there.
Look at that long worm right there! I didn't touch a thing.
That's the big finish.
That's how you teach a worm how to boom! Oh, my God.
Yeah, well, while Gregory was teaching these earthworms how to pick pockets, I was busy teaching these ducks how to do mentalism.
You guys wanna see a mind-reading duck? Jason Latimer, I need your help for this.
I want you to think of any word in the English language with two conditions.
Number one, it has to mean something to you - personally.
- Okay.
Number two, you gotta be able to spell it.
- Cups.
- Cups.
No, you gotta be able to spell it.
Let me explain.
Before the show, I was working with these ducks.
One of them in particular was more talented than the others.
Teller, which duck do you think was the most talented of the group? Duck number five.
All right.
We'll take him and place him right over here.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, one more thing.
- Duck.
- Wow.
Okay, they can't miss that.
Take this now, give that away.
She's gonna hand this out to Jason.
While she's doing that, I've got some confetti sticks for the entire audience.
In fact, can you help pass those out while you're there? - Oh, it's a party.
- It is a party.
We originally started with one, but we wanna make this a bang.
- Take one, pass it on.
- You're gonna pass those out as well.
And I'm gonna show you how to do one of them.
Pass them out to everybody.
Keep 'em going, keep 'em going.
You're gonna go like that on the count of three.
Are you ready? You count it down.
- One, two, three.
- Boom! Look, look, look, look, look.
There's a number right there.
Sir, in a loud, clear voice.
Which number is that one? - 304.
- Does that mean anything to you? - No.
- Me, neither.
- Let me see that.
- But she's the mentalist.
- What does that mean to you? - 304.
We have a dictionary.
Go to page 304.
Open that up, if you will.
- 309 300.
- 300.
- Page 304? - There's a oh! There's actually a page - completely missing.
- That's the point, yes? Here's the crazy part.
Remember the mind-reading duck.
I forgot about the mind-reading duck.
I'm coming to you.
Keep your eye on the duck.
Keep your eye on the duck.
Keep your eye on the duck.
Number five, just for the record.
Number five, just for the record.
Does anybody have a box cutter? I'll use mine.
- Okay, let's use yours.
- Look.
If you will, please? You said number five.
Be very careful.
Open that yourself.
I don't want to touch it.
Reach inside.
Pull that out.
What does it look like? A rubber-banded piece of paper, yes? Open it.
If that's the same page number that's missing that would be a big finish.
- Open it up.
- There's something circled.
Something highlighted? What's the word highlighted? - Cup.
- Cups, ladies and gentlemen! In the duck.
We'll take this.
A perfect match to boot.
Just for the record.
We'll end right there.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much.
- Thank you so much.
Let's hear it for Gregory and Angela.
Let's find out what the judges thought.
- Christen.
- It's fun to see you perform up there, Greg.
You have such showmanship and charisma.
And using the earthworms as the con artists was great.
I get the story of teaching.
Teaching the ducks and teaching the earthworms.
It wasn't as strong as I would've liked.
But overall, I did really enjoy it and I love watching you guys perform, as always.
I liked the use of the randomness.
I liked the idea of a prediction.
You guys played to your strengths, which is exactly what we want you to do.
Very strong effect with the wallet.
I thought it was pretty cool.
As far as the continuity of everything, it was just kind of one effect and then another effect.
But I actually I really like this one.
I really like for some reason this resonates.
Inside the duck was the cup that I was talking about.
Thank you.
Thank you.
The earthworms doing a physical act is something we've actually done.
It's a tip of the hat to you and I wanted to say that.
So you know that we loved it.
We had earthworms cut a deck of cards, pull and select a card.
So I love that.
I love using living things to do something impossible.
This is a great trick.
I think it's a real puzzler.
The only problem I had is that the pacing of the punch line for a trick, it might have been off-kilter a little too much.
But I loved the whole thing.
Very much.
Thank you, judges.
Will the challengers take home $10,000 or will the Wizards inch them out in the end? We'll have tonight's winner when we return.
Welcome back to "Wizard Wars.
" Which team is the winner of tonight's Wizard War? Penn.
You know, this is what this show is supposed to be.
Just amazing things.
I mean, tricks that would please anyone.
Visually pleasing, funny, moving along, going really, really quickly.
It was just it was just great.
As far as using the props, solid on all.
Everybody used every prop and everybody used them wonderfully.
There's no question of showmanship.
There's no question of creativity.
You just got everybody working at top level here.
It's a very, very tough decision, but I gotta tell you it comes down to one phrase, doesn't it? "The unicorn of paper.
" Congratulations, Joseph and Naathan.
You've just won "Wizard Wars.
" You're going home with $10,000.
All right, thank you all for a great evening.
Good night from "Wizard Wars.
