Wolverine and the X-Men (2008) s01e02 Episode Script

Hindsight (2)

ANNOUNCER: Previously on Wolverine and the X-Men: You know I'll be back, Rogue.
Who cares? Maybe I'll just take off too.
[GASPS, GROANS.]
Charles.
[GRUNTS.]
Jean! HANK: The explosion was indeed centered on Charles' position.
LOGAN: I don't know where anyone is.
It's those freaking mardies.
They snatched up a family just for helping me.
They're arresting non-mutants now? I gotta fix this, and I want you with me.
Hank, we both know what's going on.
There's a war coming.
So, what's next? We bring back the X-Men.
[.]
[THUNDER CRASHES.]
[SIRENS WAILING.]
MAN: Patrol 616 to dispatch.
[SCREAMING.]
Advise, we'll be dropping our perp off at MRD.
DISPATCH: Is it Toad? Uh, yeah, it's Toad again.
TOAD: Let me out of here, po-pos.
Oh, okay.
Who you calling a perp? Oh, this is messed up.
Y-you don't know who you're dealing with.
[RADIO CLICKS.]
[BOTH GASP.]
[MEN SCREAMING.]
[SIREN WAILS.]
[.]
[FOOTSTEPS THUNDERING.]
[GRUNTING.]
[FOOTSTEPS THUNDERING.]
[BOTH GROAN.]
TOAD: I tried to tell 'em, Blob.
I did.
[LAUGHS.]
They found out who we are, huh? Yeah.
Yeah, didn't they? This is getting real old, Toad.
[.]
[BOTH COUGHING.]
Give Senator Kelly a little message from the Brotherhood: There's no stopping the mutants.
And we're coming for him next.
[THUNDER CRASHES.]
[.]
[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER.]
[YELPING.]
[GROWLS.]
[.]
[GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
[ALL GRUNT.]
[GROWLING.]
KELLY: So the Brotherhood is now threatening me.
Am I scared? Yes, as you should be, because mutants are a danger to us all, despite the protection of these fine officers from the MRD.
These creature simply Get out of the car, Warren.
You're embarrassing me.
Isn't it enough he gets our money, Dad? I have to cheer him on too? That man is a champion of the people.
Some people.
Not all of us.
[.]
KELLY: Requiring mutants to register their abilities is just our first line of defense.
They're waging war on us, people.
It's time we fight back with this.
[CROWD GASPS.]
The Sentinel Prowler.
[POWERING UP.]
[ALL GASP.]
KELLY: Please, don't be alarmed.
You are all quite safe.
[CROWD CLAMORING.]
All right, that's enough.
Shut it down.
I'm trying, sir.
It's not responding.
[CROWD CLAMORING.]
[GRUNTS.]
[CAR ALARMS BLARING.]
[.]
[PANTING.]
[GRUNTS.]
[GASPS.]
[GASPS.]
[.]
[ANGEL GRUNTS.]
[GROWLS.]
Are you all right? Oh, great, now that I see the X-Men are back together.
Oh, well We're not.
We're still kind of sorting that out.
[GRUNTING.]
[GROWLS.]
[.]
Warren.
Logan.
So, what about you? Isn't it time you came back? Oh, sorry, I-- I can't.
But I thought your father found out you're a mutant.
He did.
Still hates mutants, though.
And that makes me the family's dark little secret.
So why live under his thumb? Because right now I help a lot of mutants with the family money.
And if I joined any mutant group, he'd cut me off.
[HELICOPTERS WHIRRING.]
I understand.
Mardies.
That's my exit cue.
Hey, Hank, good luck, huh? The world really needs the X-Men.
[.]
WOLVERINE: Rogue, I know you came to this rally because you hate what's going on.
So? So together we can do something about it.
Just come back to the X-Men and-- Forget it.
Why? The reason you don't know is exactly why.
I want you to come back.
I'm not going to let you abandon me again.
Your problem is you can't stay in one place, Logan.
And no one can follow a leader who's never there.
She just needs a little time.
Yeah, maybe, but she's right, Hank.
No one's coming back if I'm in charge.
KELLY: This is a disaster, Warren.
We cannot afford to lose support of the Registration Act.
I know.
Here's my suggestion: Make an announcement that the Prowler program has been shut down permanently.
Why? Because then you can put the focus back where you need it: on the Brotherhood.
Trust me, it won't be long before those thugs remind everyone why registering mutants is a good idea.
[SIRENS WAILING DISTANTLY.]
[.]
Help a fellow out with a donation? Take a hike.
[GASPS.]
Ah, you wearing any jewelry? [GAGS, GRUNTS.]
[GROANS.]
What have you been eating? Bugs? [FOOTSTEPS THUNDERING.]
[.]
[.]
[WHIMPERING.]
Sorry about Toad.
He's new.
What do you want? Guys, how about you let the ladies have a moment? We got nothing to talk about.
Sure we do.
I mean, we are both mutants.
Don't compare yourself to me.
You're a criminal.
You're making it hard for all of us.
It was hard long before we got involved.
We're not the ones who picked this fight, Rogue.
We're just standing up for ourselves and for those who can't fight back.
By terrorizing the city? By refusing to back down.
Rogue, don't you ever get tired of being bullied, of being hated just because you're different? And now they want us to register.
Come on, what's next, locking us up? It's time we stop being victims.
It's time we unite.
Rogue, you feel the same way.
I know you do.
You're asking me to join you? We're not the X-Men.
We don't abandon our own.
And if you doubt that, just look at Toad.
[GAGGING.]
Hang with us tonight, Rogue.
We're planning a little chat with Senator Kelly later.
Then you'll see how good it feels to get results.
MAN [ON TV.]
: With his Mutant Registration Act hanging in the balance, the senator has promised a press conference sometime tomorrow from an undisclosed location.
[GRUNTS.]
Nice digs.
You done feeling sorry for yourself? Don't go there, Logan.
Look at you.
You're no good to anybody now, are you? Get outta here.
So without Jean, there's no one worth fighting for.
Heh.
So much for the big hero.
When the going gets tough, the tough pack it in.
Is that it, huh? [.]
[GROANS.]
[COUGHS.]
Good talk.
[DOG BARKING DISTANTLY.]
No one's home.
Nice kitchen, though.
Avalanche, our calling card, please.
[AVALANCHE GRUNTS.]
[RUMBLING.]
What are you doing? Get your hands off of me, X-Man.
Why do you have to destroy his home? Because when the Brotherhood leaves a message, it ain't a note on the door.
DOMINO: Rogue, if the Registration Act passes, it will be our homes that get taken away.
Hey, check this.
Okay? Anybody up for a little ride? [.]
[CACKLES.]
Your turn.
But I, uh-- [TOAD CACKLES.]
[SIGHS.]
Look, nobody do anything stupid.
[INHALES DEEPLY.]
[SPITS.]
[GRUNTS.]
Hit it.
[TIRES SQUEAL.]
[.]
[GASPS.]
[CACKLES.]
This girl can drive.
[RUMBLING.]
MAN: The Brotherhood escaping after leveling an entire street of empty warehouses.
Still at large, the-- [CRASH.]
[GASPS.]
Uh-uh-uh.
What do you want with me? You've got Kelly's ear.
We want the rest of him.
Where is he? I'm not telling you anything.
[GRUNTS.]
Au contraire, you're gonna tell us everything.
And I mean everything.
WARREN: Rogue? [GRUNTS.]
[BOTH GRUNT.]
[GROANING.]
Warren.
Sit still.
[.]
We're almost done.
All we need is Kelly's itinerary.
Get away from me.
[GRUNTS.]
[YELPS.]
[GRUNTS.]
[MOANS.]
You all right? I got it.
[LOGAN SIGHS.]
Strike two.
No Rogue.
And definitely no Cyclops.
Who else have you tracked down? HANK: I found Kitty.
She moved in with her parents, but when they started getting harassed, she just up and disappeared.
I also found Peter in Russia.
I spoke to him but he refuses to leave his family again.
And I had high hopes for Bobby, but his parents refuse to let me talk to him.
So right now the X-Men consist of you and me and a stolen MRD helicopter.
Well, considering the Brotherhood's got Blob and Toad, I'd say odds are still in our favor.
WARREN: Better recalculate.
Rogue's joined them.
What? Are you sure? Positive.
They broke into our house so she could siphon information from my father.
No.
What were they after? Senator Kelly's itinerary.
They now know everything my father knows.
They're going to take down the senator.
How do you wanna handle this? We stop 'em.
But first we have a little talk with Bobby's parents.
Kelly's having his press conference here? Are you sure? Yeah.
A manufacturing plant owned by Worthington Industries.
Good.
So at 12:00 sharp when Kelly shows up, we end this.
[BIRDS CHIRPING.]
HANK: Bobby is 18 after all.
Legally, he can decide for himself.
You are not getting our son back.
We will not let him leave this house.
You guys nearly got him killed last year.
But-- BOBBY: This isn't fair.
I wanna go with them.
MRS.
DRAKE: Bobby, wait for us upstairs.
Mr.
and Mrs.
Drake, please, just talk to him about it.
I've already called the police.
They're on their way.
Okay, we tried it your way.
[GRUNTS.]
[GASPS.]
You coming or what? Your son's a mutant.
Deal with it.
[.]
[HELICOPTER WHIRRING.]
BOBBY: All right.
The X-Men are back.
Well, kind of.
It's just us.
Oh.
What about Kitty? Couldn't you catch her before she left? You know where she is? She told me she's heading to Genosha.
Her ship left this morning.
[FOGHORN BLOWS.]
[HELICOPTER WHIRRING.]
[.]
[KITTY GRUNTS.]
[GIGGLES.]
It's about time.
Rogue.
I knew you'd come back.
Give us a minute.
Let's see if we can't find some uniforms that aren't scorched or laser-burned, huh? What are you doing here? I, uh-- I want to come back.
Really? Why? I thought I was the same as them, but-- I am not an assassin.
Okay, Rogue.
Tell me what you know.
They're going to hit Senator Kelly at the press conference, [.]
WARREN: Why is he going forward with this? He knows this press conference is vital.
You didn't tell him about the Brotherhood, did you? WARREN SR.
: The MRD can protect him.
And if he's attacked while on national television, the Registration Act is all but guaranteed.
You're using him as bait.
KELLY: My dearest citizens, I'm coming to you with a most heartfelt apology for yesterday's unfortunate incident.
[.]
QUICKSILVER: How's your trigger finger? Itching.
[HELICOPTER WHIRRING.]
Hmm.
[CACKLES.]
We got X-Men.
Domino, now.
[ALL GASP.]
[ALL CLAMORING.]
We're too late.
It's happening.
Shadowcat, phase us in.
Okay, hang on.
[.]
[ALL GASP.]
[CROWD CLAMORING.]
Go, go, go.
[ALL GRUNTING.]
[PANEL BEEPING.]
[GRUNTING.]
[YELPS.]
[GUN COCKS.]
[GRUNTS.]
[WOMAN SHRIEKING.]
They're not here.
[SNARLING.]
[MAN YELPS.]
Huh? [GRUNTS.]
[BEAST GRUNTING.]
[ALL GROANING.]
[MAN COUGHS.]
[MAN GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
X-Men, let's go.
[.]
Don't let them get away.
We were set up.
The Brotherhood used Rogue.
Wait, where is she? Come on.
I'm going back.
[TIRES SQUEAL.]
Get in.
Not without Rogue.
She's still in there.
No, she got out.
I saw her.
Now come on.
[GRUMBLES.]
[HELICOPTER WHIRRING.]
I've been assured by the president that the Mutant Registration Act will be signed tomorrow.
So the Brotherhood, the X-Men, your days are numbered.
Thank you.
I appreciate it.
Good news.
The MRD doesn't have Rogue.
She must have just taken off, probably blaming herself.
Yeah.
Logan, what happened today-- You tried to save a man who hates you.
That is exactly what Charles Xavier would have done.
[.]
Nice job.
QUICKSILVER: Yeah.
In one fell swoop, you set up the X-Men and proved your loyalty to the Brotherhood.
Welcome aboard.
