The Duels 2
1 male announcer: Last week.
The acts went head to head in the most dramatic part of the competition yet: the duels.
[cheers and applause.]
That made me want to just get up and move my little hips.
You are like a beautiful creature creating movements that are inhuman.

[indistinct shouting.]
announcer: It's round two of the duels.
It's a dance battle, baby.
announcer: And half of the acts will be going home.
Whoa.
This is what the competition's about.
You guys rose, man.
That was awesome.

announcer: Two will enter the arena.
I'm bringing in the fierce side of me.

Is Okay, guys, so just as a reminder, the judges will score both performances, and whoever gets the most points will move on.
Okay, Diana.

announcer: For the first duel of the night, small but mighty 11-year-old Diana Pombo versus the young girls with a powerful message, The Posse.

Oh she don't see her perfect She don't understand The Posse delivered an incredibly emotional performance with a big message, and it really landed.
There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark You should know you're beautiful As long as you love yourself, you're beautiful no matter what people think of you.
Beautiful sense of unity.
I really felt the emotion.
I loved it.
It's great.
Your beautiful We're stars, and we're beautiful Diana is a standout.
Oh, but there's a scream inside That we all try to hide Her technique and her athleticism, way beyond her years.
It wasn't just all the flexibility you had.
It wasn't all the strength you had.
It was the passion that you put into every move.

JLo, you are my idol.
You inspire people, and you inspire me as well.

This duel is going to be a real heartbreaker.
Both of these acts have something really special.
Diana executes difficult moves with such passion.
And she somehow managed to check every box on that scoring sheet.
But The Posse has a lot more girls to create visuals onstage.
The Posse are taking a risk by bringing in a prop that they've never used before.
I think it's a really smart move that you picked these ropes.
It'll take it from great to amazing.

Diana's starting to feel the pressure of competition.
I know from being a competitive soloist that when you're by yourself, it can feel a little lonely.
Even though it's gonna be a big challenge for us to beat Diana, people are stronger in numbers.
I'm feeling a little nervous, but I'm bringing in the fierce side of me.
I think this duel will be pretty intense.

Thinking about what you guys did with the labels on the sweatshirts and being yourselves, and this, being held in the ropes and in pulling you back and forth and struggling through life-- it's becoming what you're about.

It was difficult.
I loved it.
Were you afraid of going up against a group? I was a little nervous.
But I chose them because I wanted a challenge.
You're a warrior princess.
Diana, you have a very special ability to connect to the song and to the music and to the audience.
That's something that's very hard to teach.
That's just something that you're born with that is within.

You have a seamless quality between your moves that I love.
You are just something so incredibly different and special.

The thing with this type of competition is that week after week, you have to come up with something new that surprises everybody, so this is gonna be a very, very tough decision.

Whoa! Whenever you get JLo to tap-dance under the table, you're doing something right.
That's the spirit of the battle: two people going, "Can I beat them? Yes, I can.
" It takes risk to move forward in this competition.

announcer: In this duel, fourth place world champ B-boys Super Cr3w have chosen seventh place contemporary newcomers Royal Flux.
[dramatic musical flourish.]
Super Cr3w gave us something totally unique in their qualifier.
So here we have these B-boys putting together moves in ways that we've never seen before, completely in sync, to music that you would never expect them to be dancing to.
Those alpha kicks--you guys were perfectly in sync together.
I was like, dang.
For anybody here that doesn't know what it is to be a B-boy, they make it look so easy.
The difficulty of some of the things that you guys are doing is like, God! We are Royal Flux.
And we are a contemporary dance company based in Los Angeles.
We like to incorporate different props and accessories just to make dance a bit more exciting.
On the surface, Royal Flux couldn't seem more different.
But to be honest with you, these groups actually have a lot in common.
Maybe we should love somebody They both had tons of unexpected elements and just pure, raw athleticism.
The harnesses--great concept.
You did some of the most beautiful pictures I've seen so far.
It was innovative.
It was risky.
There was something about being on the edge of my seat.
It was exciting for me.
[cheers and applause.]

I was broken from a young age Taking my sulking to the masses Writing my poems for the few That looked at me, took to me, shook to me Feeling me, singing from For us, it was pretty intimidating, because they are Super Cr3w.
They're named Super Cr3w for a reason.
They can do super amazing tricks.
Bigger, bigger.
We're trying to stay in the same playing field as them.
We're both very athletic teams.
They're just complete opposite sides of the spectrum.
Contemporary, and then B-boy.
Solid, dude.
This round, our dance is a little bit more exciting.
The music's a little bit more energized and a little bit more high-energy.
Royal Flux, they put in a couple new tricks.
And if they can pull that off, that will be a real wow moment.

This very much feels like studio versus street.
You guys take elements of what they do and brought it to B-boyism.
Like, this is what this competition is about.

It just got more and more and more better, and something else, and different, right? She almost rolled off the stage.
Like, ahhhh! When we said that "World of Dance" was the biggest dance competition in the world, we told you we were not playing.
Yeah.

To see you guys bring a level of cleanliness to B-boy, where B-boy is generally more loose and kind of freestyle-- and the fact that you guys bring-- and refining it, you guys are elevating it to another level, which is amazing to see.
Really great.
We really owe that to Royal Flux.
We saw them rehearsing, and we saw how clean they were.
So they definitely pushed us to our limits, and as B-boys, we love to battle.
Battling is encoded in our DNA.
So anytime we see competition, we invite that challenge.

You know what I love about you guys is that you guys are true to who you are, but also, I feel like you knew your competition.

How do you feel about that? When we first found out, we were a little intimidated, because we knew what we were up against.
And we loved that challenge.

And you pushed the limits of what contemporary is and what dance is.

" That's what this is about.

The Lab is one of my favorite little groups.
They're so exciting.
They just tore it up.
Going nowhere We can't be stopped now A lot of the people on this team come from families that have been split up or have had hardships.
We really rely on each other.
You got to come out here and attack like a beast.
And they did that.
- They set the bar.
Whoo! It's bad boy for life The Boys of Temecula are just charming and took us by surprise.
They were very clean, considering how many boys were onstage.
We are The Boys of Temecula.
A lot of people underestimate us just because we dance.
All of us have experience being bullied being a male dancer.
And we just love to do what we do.
You guys are great at it.
You need one brain, one mind, one body, and that's exactly what you guys have.

Boom clap, the sound of my heart This is a great matchup.
They have energy through the roof, and even though they are some of our youngest competitors, they both have a shot at this.
Come on to me, come on to me now The Lab have set themselves a really high bar, because they have these incredibly impressive tricks.
I wonder if they have a second performance that's just as strong as their first.
I feel your love Boys of Temecula have fantastic technique, which is really important in jazz-based performances.
It sounds like an army.
If one or two of the boys don't hit a turn cleanly, your eye is drawn right to it.
We added a bunch of tricks to our dance.
I get throw like ten feet in the air.
If they land it, it is super impressive.

They connection they have really translates into this kind of indescribable style that sets them apart from all the rest of the contestants.
This was a little more emotional than I've seen you.

And he showed some really impressive skills in his in his first performance.
Your sounds were amazing.
The technique was great.
Remember that there's an audience out here that maybe doesn't know tap.

How did you feel when you got picked by Les Twins? Um, the original reaction that I had was "Oh dear God.

'Cause it's like, we have two contrasting styles.
So it's like - Right.
Apples and oranges at this point.
Exactly.
It's kind of like David versus Goliath a little bit.
You know, but we were back here like, "Let's go, Kyle, let's go!" The use of the prop-- it was so cool.
The way you used it to create other rhythms, just like little tricks, so smooth and so risky-- which, by the way, it takes risk to move forward in this competition.
There's been times when I had a choice of using a prop and opted out of it 'cause I was too nervous I was gonna drop it or mess it up.
So the fact that you did it is so awesome, man.
I commend you on it.
It's really great.
Tap has struggled in this competition from the beginning.
It's a little difficult for it to translate visually.
And you decided to take that risk.
That speaks volumes about what you are as an artist.

And that, for me as a performer, is so exciting.
You just reminded me, like, Jen, next time you're onstage, don't do the same stuff over and over! And at the end, when you did the neck, that's the spirit of the battle.
It's like, I love you and I respect you, but I'm going to annihilate you.
You just showed everybody how the duel should be.

Those alpha kicks--you guys were perfectly in sync together.

For anybody here that doesn't know what it is to be a B-boy, they make it look so easy.
The difficulty of some of the things that you guys are doing is like, God! We are Royal Flux.
And we are a contemporary dance company based in Los Angeles.
We like to incorporate different props and accessories just to make dance a bit more exciting.
On the surface, Royal Flux couldn't seem more different.
But to be honest with you, these groups actually have a lot in common.
Maybe we should love somebody They both had tons of unexpected elements and just pure, raw athleticism.
The harnesses--great concept.
You did some of the most beautiful pictures I've seen so far.
It was innovative.
It was risky.
There was something about being on the edge of my seat.
It was exciting for me.

They're just complete opposite sides of the spectrum.

There's been times when I had a choice of using a prop and opted out of it 'cause I was too nervous I was gonna drop it or mess it up.
So the fact that you did it is so awesome, man.
