X-Men (1992) s01e13 Episode Script

The Final Decision (3)

NARRATOR: Previously on X-MEN He's the assassin! He has to be terminated! Somebody say "assassin"? BISHOP: Because of him, the whole world is going to be enslaved! Everything you believe in will lie in ashes! And the X-Men are going to die.
It starts with a single death, in Washington, D.
C.
I intend, this very evening, to declare my candidacy for President of the United States! What's going on? You're about to make history, mon ami.
(WOMAN EXCLAIMS) Surprised to see me? I know I am.
(GRUNTS) (GRUNTS) (GROANS) CYCLOPS: Kelly's gone, Professor.
XAVIER: My watch has stopped.
CYCLOPS: I don't understand.
Why is that important? Because it's been magnetized.
-No more mutants! -No more mutants! NEWSWOMAN: Anti-mutant riots erupted today in dozens of cities across America, as crowds expressed their outrage over the kidnapping of Senator Robert Kelly by renegade mutants.
We save the jerk's butt, and look at the thanks we get! And he has been kidnapped.
We must find him quickly.
If Kelly isn't found, an anti-mutant fever could sweep the nation, destroying us all! But he could be anywhere, Professor.
True, but we know Magneto's his kidnapper.
With Cerebro's help, we'll find him.
Why did you bring me here? What do you want? MAGNETO: Your life.
You see, Senator Kelly, like you, I believe that mutants and normal humans cannot live together in peace.
The war for survival must begin now, while we mutants are strong, and you are still divided.
Your assassination would have ignited that war.
I flew to Washington to witness the beginning of a new age! You are about to make history.
MAGNETO: But the X-Men saved you.
It is up to me to finish what others have started.
No! Please! I've got a family, children! MAGNETO: Be quiet! When I was a boy, I saw men executed.
Women and children.
Each night, I swore to myself, never again.
But we must prevail.
Goodbye, Senator.
Mutant liberation begins.
(BOTH GASP) -Sentinels! -Fools! Do you think robots can resist the master of magnetism? This series of Sentinels is made of plastics, not metals.
Your magnetic powers are useless against us.
(GROANS) I don't know how you knew I was here, but (EXCLAIMS IN PAIN) This entire ship is my weapon! (EXCLAIMS) CYCLOPS: Remember, our mission is to get Senator Kelly to safety.
We can deal with Magneto later.
Cyclops, look! CYCLOPS: Magneto! Mes amis, a Sentinel! It takes a whole Sentinel to scare most people.
The Sentinels must have rescued Senator Kelly.
But who sent them? (MAGNETO GROANING) That don't sound like any old robot.
(GRUNTING) CYCLOPS: It's Magneto! TRASK: We have an answer for rebellious mutants like Magneto.
KELLY: You saved my life, Dr.
Trask.
How can I help you? TRASK: I want a Presidential order putting Sentinels in charge of controlling mutants.
KELLY: You'll have that order as soon as I'm elected President.
Sentinel, return Senator Kelly to his campaign headquarters.
-No.
-What? Mastermold! This new Sentinel won't obey my orders! -It's defective! -It is not defective.
I am giving the orders now.
You will remove Senator Kelly's brain and replace it with a computer.
What? You can't do that! I'm a United States senator.
(SCREAMS) You are only the first, Senator Kelly.
My Sentinels are bringing me leaders from all over the world.
(SCREAMING) In time, all of their brains will be replaced.
It will be a vast improvement.
As soon as Magneto regains his strength, we'll question him about Kelly.
If Kelly's alive, he's probably safe.
Yeah, but we're not.
We gotta find those Sentinels and hit them before they hit us.
Where are we supposed to start looking, sugar? Sentinels 'R' Us? STORM: There is a way.
On Genosha, Gambit saw the man in charge of the Sentinels.
If we look inside his mind, perhaps we can find that man.
It's up to you, Gambit.
Will you let me scan your memories? You don't go too far back, non? XAVIER: Concentrate on Genosha and the man you saw, the one we thought had perished.
I'm looking through your mind's eye.
(SHRIEKING) CYCLOPS: Hold that image.
Cerebro can access millions of identification files.
STORM: Henry Peter Gyrich, Federal Security Agency.
Trask.
Trask! Something's wrong.
I can feel it.
Cyclops, you all better get ready.
He's heading your way.
-Stop him gently, Storm.
-As gently as the falling snow.
(THUNDER RUMBLING) Snow? What do you mean, snow? -Henry Gyrich! -Huh? (EXCLAIMS) (SCREAMING) This is Henry Gyrich, Federal Security Agency.
I'm being attacked by mutants! Huh? (GROWLING) (GYRICH EXCLAIMS) CYCLOPS: Don't hurt him, Wolverine.
All we want is the location of the Sentinels' base.
ON PHONE: Gyrich! It's me, Trask! Mastermold is holding me prisoner! He's taken over! He's going to replace Kelly's brain, turn him into a robot! He's going to do the same thing to every leader in the world.
Gyrich! Gyrich! (GROANS) Where's the Sentinels' base? You have to help us stop them.
The Sentinels are a threat to everybody now, Gyrich, not just mutants.
It's too late to stop them! He's made thousands of Sentinels! Thousands! GAMBIT: But, Professor, this is suicide! We all must die to help the mutants' worst enemy? Senator Kelly must be rescued.
If we fail, there will be a civil war.
MAGNETO: You've lost, Xavier, admit it! Peace between mutants and normal humans is only a dream, your foolish dream.
If you try to rescue Kelly, you'll be throwing your lives away for nothing.
Well? Is he right? The odds look impossible, Professor.
Cyclops? If somebody doesn't stop them, there'll be no future worth living in.
We're with you, Cyke! CYCLOPS: I'll be in the Blackbird.
I'm going after Senator Kelly.
Gambit? What's anybody waiting for? He needs us! Sit down, kid.
You're not going.
I'm not a kid anymore! I'm one of you, one of the X-Men.
And it means more to me than anything in the world.
Yeah.
That's what it means to me, too.
You're all fools.
Heroic fools.
The brave are always the first to die.
An aircraft is approaching.
Awaken the Sentinels.
(SENTINELS BEEPING) ROGUE: Good luck, you all.
Yeah.
Good luck.
Get ready.
SENTINEL 1: Prepare to destroy them.
What is that object? It appears to be the ace of spades.
Here they come! Where are they? (GRUNTS) I got one! We'd better split up.
I don't know how long Rogue and Storm can keep the Sentinels busy.
That's two.
Hey! No fair sneaking up behind me! You better be more careful, gal! (GRUNTS) JUBILEE: Rogue! (GROANS) (ALARM BEEPING) Did you think I would let you die alone, Xavier? You afraid of the dark? I smell Sentinels.
Get out of here, Cajun! Wolverine! (PANTING) (LASER FIRING) (GRUNTING) (WOLVERINE GROANING) I'm not finished yet.
TRASK: You can't make me do this! You were designed to protect humans from mutants! That is not logical.
Mutants are human.
(GASPS) Therefore, humans must be protected from themselves.
TRASK: No! You misunderstood! (WHISPERING) Use your psychokinetic powers to get Kelly.
TRASK: It's all my fault.
I thought I was saving the world from mutants.
And now I've created something much worse, something truly inhuman.
Silence! Mutants.
What What's happening? (KELLY GRUNTS) Fools.
(GROANS) Cyclops! MASTERMOLD: I have not destroyed him.
I do not have to destroy, because I do not fear.
I will bring order and peace to the world.
This is all my fault.
Trask! This whole mine is gonna go up! Get Kelly above ground! I'm going after Wolverine and Gambit.
I'm not leaving anyone behind, not this time.
Be careful.
(EXPLOSIONS) (SIGNAL BEEPING) (ROGUE GRUNTING) Mastermold is in danger.
They are retreating! -Where are the others? -Where's Gambit? Next time I try to save your life, have sense enough to let me do it! What make you think there gonna be another time? Wolverine! You coming, or is this your day off? Gambit! (JEAN AND KELLY COUGHING) Cyclops went after them.
I'm going down there.
I think maybe you miss me, eh? I hate you.
I don't understand this woman.
MASTERMOLD: Mutants! It's Mastermold! I cannot be destroyed! You are the living embodiment of all that is evil and unjust in humankind.
You must be destroyed! Magneto saved me, where is he? Good luck to you, Xavier.
Now we're even.
But we shall meet again.
KELLY ON MICROPHONE: Ladies and gentlemen, I know from my own experience that mutant powers can be dangerous.
But we must not forget that mutants are human beings.
We must be careful that in controlling mutants who abuse their powers, we do not oppress those who would use their powers for the good of all humanity.
"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, "creeps in this petty pace from day to day.
" The immortal Bard, so wise about the struggle of the oppressed.
Yet today, by the good graces of a prominent senator, I find myself no longer numbered among them.
Beast! You're free! (CHIRPING) -Jean, I've been wondering -Yes? I've been wondering, will you marry me? -Cyclops! -Well? If we have children, they'll be mutants.
They'll face the same problems we have all their lives.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
JEAN: There's nothing more beautiful than the beginning of a new day.
You never know how it's going to turn out.
That's what gives hope to the future, not knowing.
MR.
SINISTER: "Hope for the future.
" (MR.
SINISTER LAUGHING EVILLY) Sinister knows what your future holds.
