XIII: The Series s01e10 Episode Script

The Train

Previously on "XIII.
" By order of the President, Frank Giordino is relieved of all duties at the agency.
Are you willing to walk away from all this? Walking away is just the beginning.
Welcome to Russia! Get me the hell out of here.
Every lead we had on Max Serle and the third watch went up in smoke.
Not for lack of looking.
Because Giordino was fighting us.
Gerhardt? Mr.
Gerhardt is unavailable, Mr.
President.
The mobile you're using is compromised.
Please do not call with it again.
XIII: Giordino's got a box of secrets.
Every blackmailable thing he's ever collected.
XIII: Think you're in there? I would not push it right now.
Jones: Is that a blood test? Yeah, there's another one in there.
We made a deal with Amos.
He wants the contents of the box-- YOU made a deal! Not me! Think about Max Serle, the third watch-- We're dead in the water.
Amos could help us! I don't work for Amos! Jones: The Gerhardt check, those blood tests-- We're gonna run those down.
We're gonna figure this out.
XIII: If he's got dirt on Carrington, he'll go for that first.
If he does? Then I'm gonna burn them all down.
XIII: I hope this pays off.
I'm not crazy about letting Giordino get away in Moscow.
The check in the vault was from Gerhardt's account to the Hansby's.
Too big a connection for Giordino to ignore.
How much further to their house? About two and a half miles west.
Hope Giordino doesn't get to those people before we do.
If they know about Max and the third watch he's not going to ask nicely.
(phone ringing) Amos.
How many calls since we touched down? Four and counting.
He's gonna have NSA tapped into every security cam.
Well, my European contact was able to get us here without being spotted.
But now we're just gonna have to keep our eyes open.
We have to do more than that to get down this street and not get made.
Alright, stay close.
Jones: Flares the lens - nice trick.
One more to go.
Think we ducked it in time? We'll know soon enough.
Well, when we bought the house it was surrounded by crown land.
Which I guess you would call government land.
And, Stacy gets out as much as she can.
Oh, here she is-- Cream, Mr.
Wyatt? Please, Mrs.
Hansby.
Thank you.
So when does your son get home from school? Roger has some extracurricular activities.
His schedule varies.
How does it vary today? I'm not sure, actually-- I'm sorry, Mr.
Wyatt, I was under the impression that this meeting was about my company's U.
S.
trade quotas.
Well-- We've had a change of priorities.
So what exactly-- The U.
S.
Government would like to know everything you can tell us about Ranier Gerhardt.
I'm afraid you must be mistaken, Mr.
Wyatt.
We don't know who that is.
Yet you've been cashing checks for Roger's tuition sent from one of his accounts.
So-- What can you tell me about Ranier Gerhardt? I'm not comfortable with your questions, Mr.
Wyatt.
I'd like to ask you to leave.
Canada.
Everyone's so polite.
CRACK! So Mrs.
Hansby-- Can you tell me about Mr.
Gerhardt? Please? I was a secret agent.
Betrayed by me own people.
Robbed of my face, my memories, my history.
Hidden in my past is a secret that threatens all humanity.
I search for answers with nothing to hold onto but the tattoo that has become my name.
I am XIII.
Call that up again.
Third call to Jones in the last hour - no answer.
Giordino? Nothing since learning he was headed back to North America.
Call again and check if there've been hits on XIII and Jones.
Yes, Sir.
Any NSA information requests-- I want them vetted.
Confirm with the requesting department by video conference before we release any intel.
Jones is not getting any help from me unless I find out exactly where she is.
I'll need to ask for some credentials, if you don't mind, Mr.
Wyatt.
Not at all, MrPaltz.
Yes, well-- Thank you, Mr.
Wyatt.
We can't be too careful these days.
No no, we can't.
Jennifer, would you please locate Roger Hansby and have him brought to my office? Yes, please, thank you very much.
How many prodigies are enrolled here? Currently we have fifty-three gifted children.
And what are Roger's "gifts"? He excels in all his subjects, but he seems to have a penchant for political studies and history, particularly military.
Imagine it's pretty expensive here.
Well-- Roger's benefactor has beenquite generous.
In addition to Roger's tuition, he's paid for our science lab.
Really-- Well, Mr.
Hansby seemed comfortable, but I didn't realize the family was that well off.
No, I wasn't referring to his parents.
It's a wealthy friend of the family, I believe.
Well, that is generous.
Have you ever met him? No, he prefers to remain anonymous.
Am I in some kind of trouble? No, no Roger.
Not at all.
This is Mr.
Wyatt from the American Embassy.
Hello, Roger.
Your parents are in a little difficulty.
Now, they had to leave Toronto.
But, I'm going to take you to them.
What kind of difficulties? It's a little complicated.
Are they okay? They're as safe as can be.
I just talked to them.
Is it legal trouble? I'm only through first year procedure but my friend Aaron could pass the bar right now.
If he was old enough.
Maybe we could help with the arraignment or construct a defense strategy if it goes that far.
Thank you, Roger.
But that's a little premature.
Alright, thank you, Mr.
Paltz.
Let's get going.
Something just came in from Canada.
Someone's trying hard to keep their faces off the security cameras.
Probably used a laser pointer to flare the lens.
Get me Harrison at C.
I.
A.
Toronto on line.
(doorbell ringing) KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK Toronto's a safe city.
It's not that safe.
Yeah? They arrived.
Take care of it.
I'll check the office.
Mr.
and Mrs.
Hansby? Situation in here! Somebody needed to get information fast.
Giordino.
I found bank statements in the office.
More deposits from the Gerhardt account.
That check in the vault was for school tuition.
Which means a kid.
Yeah.
Jones, I found the boy's room.
Kid's talented.
Not just that-- That's not exactly World of Warcraft.
There's a note in this.
"Roger, the lessons contained in here will serve us for a lifetime, study them well.
R.
G.
" R.
G.
Ranier Gerhardt.
Why is Gerhardt so interested in this kid? Maybe something to do with the blood tests? (door closing) I don't think that's the Hansbys.
C.
I.
A.
! Jones: Prove it! Yeah.
Facial rec? Chief Harrison sent us, on orders from Director Amos.
What are you doing here? We think we may have a line on Giordino.
He's in Toronto? Yeah.
Anything on Gerhardt? Not a clue.
Look, the couple that lives here was killed.
We think Giordino might have taken their kid.
Sir, I'm with XIII and Jones.
They think Giordino may have killed two people and taken their son.
Don't! What the hell are you doing? We never said the kid was a boy.
Turn around.
THUD-THUD! This isn't just about Giordino anymore.
This kid could be in danger.
He's gonna find it harder to move around the city.
Unless Harrison's working with Giordino and he's holding back any facial recs from Amos.
But he will know where Giordino and that kid are.
You're going to call him? Voice to text.
XIII and Jones got away.
Davis, get every agent out on the street looking for XIII and Agent Jones.
They were headed towards St.
Clair and Bathurst.
I want your eyes glued to that computer for facial rec.
Harrison is clearly a Giordino loyalist.
He's going to have every agent in town chasing after us.
I know.
You say it like it's a good thing.
It is.
Why are you calling me, Barnes? We're prepped for the operation.
And half the funds are in your account as we agreed, so I ask you again, why are you calling me? I'm not happy with our terms.
You wait until now to tell me this? Since I got leverage, it's the perfect time.
What do you want? Full payment.
Before I pull the trigger.
What's my guarantee you won't take the money and not go through with it? I'm a man of my word, Sheridan.
You, I don't know about so much.
The remainder of the funds will be in your account within the hour.
Soon as I see it, I give the green light.
But I'm warning you, Barnes, if I don't see reports of your operation, if I don't see panicked faces plastered all over the media, then you and your True Patriots will be sharing a cell block with the Aryan Brotherhood in San Quentin.
Just keep your eye on the news.
Amos: Mr.
Harrison-- Director Amos, what can I do for you? I have off the grid assets in your territory that I need secured.
Absolutely.
Just send us the details and we'll throw out the net.
It's Special Agent Lauren Jones and an independent contractor she's traveling with.
I wasn't aware she was in Toronto.
She didn't follow protocol and check in with us.
I'll put the word on the street immediately.
They shouldn't be difficult for your people to find.
One of your assets tagged them on a CCTV feed.
I was, um, unaware of that.
We've been swamped with urgent domestic issues, but I'll get the team right on it.
Harrison this is a priority situation.
You will report to me on the half- hour.
I'll call you personally, Sir.
Can I help you? THUD AHHHHHHH! Where's Giordino and Roger Hansby?! Go to hell! AHHHHHHH! You yell as loud as you want.
Your guys are out chasing after us, remember? NOW WHERE ARE THEY?! I don't know.
AHHHH! Broken bones heal.
This won't.
Last chance.
He picked the boy up from his school! He's taking him to meet Gerhardt somewhere! Why is this kid so important to Giordino? Giordino's using him for some kind of leverage.
Something to do with blood tests! I got a message to pass along from Gerhardt about where Giordino was supposed to meet him.
It was in code! I don't know what it means! Show us.
My computer-- Ahhhhhh! XIII: Password! Twelve seven, nineteen forty one.
Pearl Harbor Day.
(gun shot) What the hell just happened? He went for a hidden gun.
The Password was bogus.
It was more than that.
He sent out an emergency signal.
We've got to get out of here! News: This is the fourth refinery disaster in the last seven hours.
No official word yet but the fact that this may have been a coordinated series of attacks, has to be considered.
Put the President on the line, please.
What do we know? Security at the refineries was breached.
This was an attack, Mr.
President.
Al Qaeda? We've been monitoring chatter on Jihadist sites.
No one's been hinting at something like this.
What do you hear from our people in the Middle East? Evidence suggests we're dealing with a domestic group.
Domestic? The body of a member of the True Patriot's movement out of Idaho was found at one of the sites.
True Patriots? The leader is a man named Lucius Barnes.
He's been on our radar for years.
I've been advised an eighth of our nation's fuel supply could be cut off.
I want you to sweep Barnes' compound and every other Domestic Terrorist Organization we know of.
Gloves off, I want answers! I'll deal with the fallout later.
Yes, Sir, Mr.
President.
We just got a C.
I.
A.
emergency alert from Toronto.
A distress signal.
Get Harrison back on the line, I was just talking to him.
Haven't been able contact him, Sir.
He's the one who sent the alert.
We thoroughly vetted that office? About seventy percent through the files, Sir.
Get the plane ready.
I want to be in the air in a half an hour.
Good news and bad news.
Gimme the bad.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to break Harrison's password.
And the good? Harrison said Giordino's leverage over Gerhardt had something to do with the blood tests from the vault.
Those two people are related to each other.
Who are they? I could only access the chemical workups and compare them.
To figure out who they belong to, I need to use my security clearance.
Then Amos knows where we are.
Look, there might be another way.
If Giordino's leverage has something to do with the blood tests maybe it's because one of them belongs to Roger.
Can we access the records through the Canadian Health Care system? Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.
Canadian Privacy laws are very strict.
Only way to access health records is from a computer, closed system.
Like a hospital? Yeah, like a hospital.
And they don't exactly have low security.
Where are you going? Clothes shopping.
XIII: Thanks.
The first one's for Roger Hansby.
And the second? The system doesn't recognize the code.
I'm checking Canadian Public Records now.
Public Records say the second one's not Canadian - it's U.
S.
based.
Access it with your clearance.
It's a chance we have to take.
Alright.
After I do this we're going to have to get on the move again.
This could be a problem.
What? The second one-- It's the President's daughter.
Kim Carrington.
I have a major security breach on my hands.
One of my people, special agent Lauren Jones and an ex-spy are on security video entering that office just minutes before Harrison was killed.
You have the full cooperation of Canadian Intelligence office, Director.
We'll have our officers out looking in minutes.
What have you got? Jones just used her security clearance.
Wireless triangulation gives us a fifteen block perimeter.
But it's somewhere near your current location.
Keep on it - cell phones, internet access, security cameras, I'll work it from this end.
We just got a hit.
Giordino knew Roger was related to the President, that's why he took him as a bargaining chip against Gerhardt.
So he's playing both sides, with Roger in the middle.
We have to tell the President.
They're within a quarter of a mile of here in any direction.
Any facial rec hits? I want a detailed report on the fiscal effects of cutting the gasoline tax forty to fifty percent.
I also want us to consider subsidies for residential heating oil as well.
Take it on a state-by-state basis, we can't foot the bill all alone.
Hopefully this is a short term solution, get us through the winter.
Excuse me, gentleman.
Where are you? XIII: Toronto.
What the hell are you doing there? Giordino's here.
What? What's he doing there? He came to kidnap a boy named Roger Hansby.
Why? Because he's your grandson.
Jones: Mr.
President? Kim and I never had any secrets between us.
I know this must be a bit of a shock.
No-- I really don't think that the-- There's a possibility she could've held something like that back from me.
Carrington: Are you sure? There was information about you in Giordino's Moscow bank vault.
There's a tuition check to Roger's Hansby's parents from Gerhardt, along with two anonymous blood tests.
The blood tests are Roger Hansby's and your daughter, Kim's, Sir.
(police siren) Mr.
President, I think you need to place a call to Director Amos.
Get me Director Amos.
The Headmaster at Roger Hansby's school confirmed Frank Giordino picked him up using the name Frank Wyatt, Mr.
President.
He had fake credentials from Harrison.
From Harrison? How do you know this? Because he sent You killed him? XIII: He went for a gun.
Harrison was sitting on any facial rec.
that would have come through on Frank Giordino.
And that's why nothing popped up on your radar.
So Harrison might have information in his file On where Giordino's taking Roger.
I'll get some people on it, Sir.
Just make sure they're not part of Giordino's C.
I.
A.
softball team, okay? (phone ringing) Yes? We just got a facial rec.
hit on Hansby and Giordino.
Where? Downtown core, two blocks from Union Station.
Let's go.
NO.
I can have a team in position in ten minutes, Mr.
President.
XIII: Bad idea.
You don't know who you can trust that team.
He's got a point there, Amos.
We've got Giordino backed up into a corner, he's capable of anything.
Furthermore, I've been informed that Ranier Gerhardt's holdings include nuclear energy, bio-tech and chemical corporations.
Now, that weapon could include one of those, or all three.
Furthermore-- If that meeting was about obtaining the final chip in the third watch, we've got to stay on top of it.
And my grandson's safety's at risk.
Amos: What do you suggest, Mr.
President? I want XIII to handle this.
At this point he's the only one I can trust.
Mr.
President.
Roger: Doesn't the train leave soon? I don't like hanging around train stations.
Gets a little How can I explain this to you? Claustrophobic? Yes.
You want something? So how long until we get to my parents? The trip to Montreal is about six hours.
But we're meeting someone else on the train.
He's a good friend of your family's, he's been paying for all your schooling.
You mean my Uncle Ranier.
He's not my real uncle.
I've always just called him that.
When was the last time you saw him? I've never actually met him.
But I've talked to him on the phone.
He sends me things, gifts on holidays, books, letters.
You mean e-mails? Never e-mails.
Just old-fashioned, typewritten letters.
Where does he send them from? There's never a return address.
I don't suppose you've ever seen a picture of him either.
How did you know? Lucky guess.
What kind of trouble are my parents in? It's kind of complicated.
Even for you.
I imagine it doesn't have Domestic Criminal or Political Ramifications if they're still in Canada.
That's one good thing, right? Thank you, Mr.
President.
Amos accessed Harrison's records.
He bought two train tickets yesterday.
One adult.
One child.
Train number? Line 73 to Montreal, left about 15 minutes ago.
Amos wants to scramble a team, stop it outside the city.
Carrington? He doesn't like it, But what choice does he have? Bring up a map of the train route.
That! knock-knock Come in.
Thank you.
Attention passengers, we will be arriving in Toronto Union Station in five minutes.
Five minutes, Union Station, Toronto.
Good luck.
I don't know if I believe in it.
Maybe you should start.
THUD! Tickets, please.
Good evening.
Oh, Montreal Spectacular this time of year, yeah? Yeah, so I hear.
You have never been? No.
You seem a little tense.
Everything alright? Just a lot on my mind.
You need a hobby, do you have one? Every man needs a hobby.
Something to remove the rigors of everyday life, don't you agree? I don't really have much time.
Mine Is Magic.
Illusion.
Creating a reality in somebody's mind That really doesn't even exist.
Please, indulge me.
Choose a card.
Ah, don't tell me.
Now shuffle.
Very impressive.
I've been studying how to read people for years.
It's simple observation.
No, no-- Memory is the key.
For without memory Everything it lost.
Excuse me.
For you.
For luck, yeah? I'm not sure I believe in it.
Whether you do or not, what do you have to lose, eh? I've got Giordino! Give me a second.
We've got the President on the line.
XIII's located Giordino, Sir.
Yeah, he's with Roger.
They're talking to a guy about fifty, Tall, blonde hair, it could be Gerhardt.
The most recent photo we have of him is about fifteen years old.
What are you thinking? It's a long trip to Montreal.
They can't stay in that compartment forever.
I'll wait until they come out, deal with them one at a time.
As soon as you're sure Roger's safe, call me.
Carrington: Amos' team is standing by.
Sir? Jones? I can't hear you-- XIII? What's happening? We've lost him, Sir.
There's no service.
Amos, you said there wouldn't be any dead spots on that train.
There aren't any, Sir.
At least not from the cell phone company.
He's being jammed? That's the only answer.
That means Gerhardt knows XIII's on that train.
Mr.
President, I have teams in position to intercept that train.
Move them in.
We're going to intercept the train.
Get the team ready-- When? Then re-scramble.
What's happening? The train is not heading to Montreal anymore.
It switched tracks, unscheduled 3 miles back.
We need to re-organize and liaise with Canadian authorities and until that happens, I can't get my team into a new position ahead of that train.
XIII's on his own.
Sheridan? Well, what a surprise.
I'm used to getting calls from your secretary these days.
Heike? She's not a secretary, she's more of Afacilitator.
And you're sure your "facilitator" can be trusted? I don't like discussing sensitive issues with people I don't know, Gerhardt.
I don't believe you discussed "sensitive issues".
The fact that I'm calling you is a sensitive issue.
Well, I trust her so you'll just have to trust me.
And something interesting story in the news today.
A disaster with the U.
S.
oil supply.
One man's disaster is another man's opportunity.
Nicely done, but you will have to go further if you want the U.
S.
population to embrace you when we get the weapon.
And when will that be? Well I'm working on a lead with Max Serle and that third watch probably by the end of the day.
I've still got a few more moves I can play on Carrington.
If there are no loose ends to impede me.
Don't worry, I'll tie up this one.
And I'll be in touch.
What did Giordino tell you?! Please, I'm not who you think I am.
I know! Gerhardt wouldn't be stupid enough to expose himself directly.
He paid me to pretend I was him.
WHAT ELSE? I was to meet a man in the next car with a young boy.
I was suppose to find out what he wanted, and report back.
Did he give you a phone number? No.
He's on the train.
Dark suit, older guy, walks with a cane? Yes.
XIII: What did the guy with the kid tell you? He was close to knowing the location of someone named Max.
He wanted safe passage to Argentina, new identity, and a bank account when he got there.
Exactly what did he tell you about Max? (gun shot) Roger: What's happening? Roger: Let me go! I suppose you know who this is.
Let me go! Don't worry, Roger.
This man wants to hurt us, but I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen.
You're a smart kid, Roger.
If he was telling the truth, he wouldn't have a gun to your head.
Don't listen to him, Roger, we're going to move slowly to the next car.
Your Uncle Ranier is going to make sure everything's all right.
That guy you were talking to wasn't Gerhardt.
He was playing you.
Drop the gun.
Drop it! (fighting) (fighting) This is stupid! We could be helping each other! You killed Sam! You were running through the woods hand in hand with Irina, she was the one who shot her! Or didn't she neglect to tell you that? (fighting) If you want to find out who you are-- Pull me in! I know who I am! You think you're Ryan Flay? You think you were born in Green Falls?! You and everyone else have been lying to me about who I am! It's time I set an example for anyone who thinks about doing it again! Ahhhhhh! Oh, it's been a grand adventure so far, don't you think? I only wish you could remember the journey when you first went through it, so you had something to compare it to.
This ends here.
I don't think so.
You still have another watch to look for.
I found the first two without your help, I can find the third.
Without my help? You sure give yourself a lot of credit, don't you! I hid that weapon from you and the world five years ago.
You're not getting your hands on it now.
Stay there, okay? We finished analyzing the True Patriots phone records.
What have you got? Lucius Barnes received a series of calls from the same scrambled number from the US over the past few weeks.
Several occurred the day of the refinery attacks.
Amos: Can we trace them? We're working on it, but we did determine the calls that day came from somewhere in western Pennsylvania.
Wally Sheridan was doing press interviews in western Pennsylvania on that day.
It's all over now.
This is Agent Jones.
She works for the President.
Secret Service? I used to be.
Listen, Roger, we're going to take you to Washington D.
C.
to meet your grandfather, okay? Something happened to my parentsdidn't it? I'm afraid so.
I know they weren't my real parents.
Just like Ranier Gerhardt's not really my Uncle.
Jones: Listen, Roger would you give us a minute? Crews have been out all night.
No sign of Gerhardt.
Giordino? Haven't found the body.
I could have asked him about Max.
You think he would have actually told you something? He told me Irina killed Sam.
And that I wasn't Ryan Flay.
You think he was telling you the truth? I suppose he would have said anything.
Look, you need to know who you really are.
Yeah, but right now we've got to deal with this.
That's a kid who's really going to need his grandfather.
It's a terrible burden losing your parents at that age.
I wish my amnesia was contagious.
That's a risky move leaving your left side open.
A calculated one.
Just like on the train when that guy was pointing the gun at me.
I pushed into the extensor muscle in his forearm - it controls the tendons that regulate index finger movement.
Where did you learn about that? Self defense classes.
Did your Uncle ask you to take those? That and shooting lessons.
What else are you studying? A little bit of everything.
Uncle Ranier sends me books on languages, International relations Military strategy.
Did he ever talk about you working for him one day? Yeah.
Roger-- I'd like to introduce you to the President of the United States.
Your grandfather.
It's an honor to meet you, Sir.
And you, as well.
Why don't you sit down.
And you don't have to call me "Sir".
Mr.
President? Why don't you start with Ben, go from there.
Roger, I am-- I'm so sorry about what happened to your parents.
I really wish I could know my real Mom and Dad.
This is my daughter, Kim.
Your mother.
She was a wonderful woman.
But she had a well-- A complicated life.
I'm sure she felt the Hansbys at the time could take better care of you.
So, can I see the rest of the White House? Yeah, sure.
Come on, I'll give you a personal tour.
Where did you get that pen? Oh that? It was my predecessor's.
President Sheridan? That's right.
Where did you get that, Roger? My Uncle Ranier gave it to me.
He said it belonged to my Dad.
I never met him.
It was the only thing I had of his.
My Dad and my Grandfather are both Presidents.
