Young Hercules (1998) s01e37 Episode Script

The Head That Wears the Crown

Get going! Want the rest of your pay? We'd better be in Corinth by nightfall! By the gods! What was that? There! Something's there! Wait, stop! My goods! Oh, my goods! Oh! Oh, please, mercy! You ask me for mercy? I'll show you as much mercy as was ever shown to me! Puce does not go with gold! It never has and it never will.
What were your grandparents thinking when they agreed to this coronation robe? They didn't have the benefit of your guidance, Lea.
Yeah, well, that's the honest truth.
Puce robes, jeweled boots, it's a wonder anyone would let himself be crowned king.
Not that anyone would ever listen to me.
Come on, tough guy, come on! You want a piece of me? My Prince, we have three more fittings! And you haven't practiced your waving or your crown acceptance.
I think I know how to wave, Lea.
I warned you guys, you gotta get me out of here.
- Jason! - My prince! Prince Jason, the road to Corinth has been closed.
- Why? - They were attacked.
Their master barely survived.
A-a terrible monster.
A giant, covered in scales with a claw and a laugh that could freeze your blood.
Galinthia.
Galinthia? Childhood sweetheart? I fought the monster your father was king.
You know the creature? You know how to deal with it? There's only two ways.
Sometimes, Galinthia can be bought off with gold or something else it desires.
What about the other way? We can fight, if Your Highness commands.
Oh, well, you can't do that.
Why? In an age of light and darkness, Zeus, King of the Gods, ruled the universe.
He had a son, Young Hercules.
Half-god, half-man, Young Hercules longs to find his place in the world, the father he's never known, and what it means to be a hero.
Before the man became legend, before the legend became myth, came the greatest adventure of all.
What's your problem, Hercules? Why can't we attack? Ten years ago, your father didn't hesitate.
He knew what had to be done.
Then we fight.
Oh, come on, Jason, don't you remember what Cheiron said? "A battle avoided is a battle won.
" When Galinthia attacked our friends at Ilion, your father, King Aeson, drove it away.
I fought by his side, I still bear the scars of that battle.
Well, it sounds like a good reason not to fight.
What better way to gain the respect of your people and your soldiers? What do you mean? Capture Galinthia and take it to Corinth.
When the monster is executed tomorrow at the coronation, everyone will see your justice and your power.
Come on, Jason, don't listen to this.
At least give me a chance to go talk to her and see what it would take to get her to leave.
We'll talk to Galinthia.
But, Jason My decision is made.
As you command, my prince.
Come on, you two.
Thanks, Jason.
What's up with that Balian guy? He needs to lighten up.
He's just trying to protect me.
It's his job, he's captain of the guards.
But, ultimately, it's my decision to do what's best for Corinth.
Listen to this kid, he's already starting to talk like a king.
"Oh, Your Majesty.
" Very funny, lolaus, I already have a court jester.
Well, if I knew it was an audition, I would have brought better material.
Hey, maybe Galinthia will like your jokes, huh? Oh, I'm gonna miss this.
What, making fun of lolaus? No, this, the three of us, on the road, not knowing what's gonna happen next.
I don't think I wanna know.
Galinthia! Wow, that is a really big giant.
Who dares come against Galinthia? Uh hi.
Uh, we're from Corinth and, you know, we just sort of came to talk.
Why are you here? What do you want? What do I want? Revenge! For what King Aeson did to me! Aeson was only defending the city you tried to destroy.
In self defense! Heard Aeson's son was to be crowned.
I vowed 10 years ago that no son of his would ever wear the crown! Well, there's gotta be another way.
His life or Corinth will be destroyed! Tell that to Prince Jason.
You've told him yourself.
I'm Jason of Corinth.
My father defeated you.
What he did then, I'll do now.
Brave words.
Jason! Come on, now.
Can't we just talk about this? Ooh! Whoa! Uh, they made me come.
Run, Jason! Fresh meat.
Are you all right? Get behind me, Prince.
Capture her.
Get her, but don't kill her.
Behind me! Galinthia! Don't! Nothing can save you now! Chain her up! Yes, sir! King Aeson would be proud of you today.
Take Galinthia to Corinth.
She'll be executed before the coronation.
Executed? That's that's ridiculous.
Prince Jason is gonna become king, Hercules.
Not you.
Really? Well, why don't you tell him, Jason? It's my decision.
Take her away! Yes, sir! These chains should hold the monster until the execution.
You lied to me, Jason.
You lied to me! Not everything's about you, Hercules.
I said we'd talk to her and we did.
It didn't work.
I made a decision.
Why don't you save us the big show and stop pretending to be the big-shot king of Corinth, all right? 'Cause this is me you're talking to, and trust me, I don't buy it.
I'm not pretending.
I have responsibilities to the people of Corinth.
If you stop thinking about yourself, you may see that.
I'm only trying to do what my father did.
We've all heard your sad song, Jason.
So, why don't you do us all a favor and stop trying to live up to your father.
Look who's talking, crybaby.
What'd you just say? I said, "Look who's talking, crybaby.
" What's that supposed to mean, Jason? That means I am sick of hearing you talk about Zeus.
"Zeus never talks to me.
" He never looks at me.
"I'm never gonna see.
" I'm sick of it! You're never gonna see him! So, grow up.
Come on! Make a move.
Hey, what's going on? Guards, take them away.
- What? - What? Where are we going? Jail, for attacking the crown prince of Corinth.
You know, Herc, you should stop pacing and have some of this stew, it's actually really good.
Listen, I'm sorry about before, all right? I lost my temper, but I just cannot let them execute Galinthia, you know? I know her somehow.
I told ya, she's your childhood sweetheart.
That's it.
What, I was joking.
No, no, no, no.
Childhood.
Galinthia was my mother's midwife.
She was the woman that helped me to be born.
Well, she's a little worse for wear.
My mother said that Hera was really angry when I was born, you know? Maybe she just took it out on Galinthia? Now, we have to get her out of here.
Look what I got.
Ooh, you do want them, don't you? Well, you're not gonna get 'em.
Aw, look at you, all so sad.
You're just a big sissy.
Yeah, I'm gonna teach you a lesson.
That's right, missy.
Got it.
You do realize this is the last time anybody's gonna invite us to a coronation? Oh, yeah.
Okay, Galinthia, now, we promise to unlock these chains only if you promise to leave Corinth.
Yeah, and leave Jason alone.
I promise.
Unchain me.
Okay.
Free.
Nobody move.
Archers, ready.
I should have known better than to trust humans! Come here, curly.
Hey, Galinthia, let me down! Hold it.
Galinthia, you promised.
Our deal is off.
People like them will always hunt me.
Unless Jason gives himself up to me at my cave tomorrow, you'll never see this one alive again! No, wait! Herc! Don't worry, lolaus.
Come on, men! Herc, Jason! Man, she really hates me.
Take him back to his cell.
What, wait, wait! You had him in a cell? It was necessary.
Let him go.
Let him go! Assemble the guards, we're going after Galinthia and this time, we won't try to capture her.
We'll destroy her.
Balian, wait! I can't obey you, Jason.
Galinthia must be destroyed to save you and the city.
I'm going after lolaus.
Hey, I'm going with you.
Not to hurt Galinthia, but to help lolaus.
You sure about that? Yeah.
Hercules, about what happened Jason all right, come here.
I'm sorry.
It's all right.
Now, are you gonna come with me or are we gonna stay here and have a moment? I thought we just had a moment? Well oh, yeah, we did.
You know, with a little imagination, you could really fix this cave up.
No, really, a few frescoes, an urn, couple of potted plants.
It's a shame I'll have to destroy you if Jason doesn't surrender.
You're almost amusing.
Shh! Oh, I understand.
Nothing personal, right? Not too personal, curly.
Oh, what was that, Galinthia? Better go check it out.
Come on! Galinthia, no! No! You have to remember who you are.
Iolaus, hang on! Can't we just talk about this? - Whoa! - Whoa! Jump! Whoa! Give my regards to King Aeson! Ugh! Galinthia, no! I'm Hercules! Just think back.
Hercules? I know that name.
Galinthia were you ever human? Human? Of course.
And then, Hera no, it's a trick! No! Listen, you helped my mother.
Now, do you remember Alcmene? Alcmene? Alcmene.
And her baby.
I was human.
No! Jason, run! Balian, don't.
I know her.
Lower your weapons, all of you.
Now! At ease, gentlemen.
Okay, now try to remember.
Alcmene gave birth to a son.
It was incredibly difficult, but Alcmene.
You stood by her when nobody else would.
Hercules.
You fought your poor mother like a warrior.
Your cries shook the walls.
Uh you have to go.
Where memories of the past won't make people hate you and where you can forget about revenge.
I kinda feel like this is my fault somehow.
No, Hercules, it's not your fault.
Helping your mother was the best thing I ever did.
I'll do what you ask, I'll go.
You're becoming a man, Hercules.
Alcmene must be proud.
Well done, all of you.
Jason, it will be an honor to serve you when you're crowned king.
Crowned? King? My coronation is today.
By the power invested in me, I ordain thee King of Corinth.
All hail, Jason, King of Corinth! Hey! Hey! Long live King Jason! This is gonna be great!
