The Awakening

1
[ominous music]
[thunder rumbling]
[Brandy sniffling and crying]
[shushing]
[voice] Get her.
[Brandy] He said, "Get her."
[garbled audio]
The only way you're gonna get to her
is to get through me.
[sniffling]
[Brandy] I know my limit.
I'm a psychic medium in a goddamn
funeral home with negative energy.
And a murderer.
Back off.
I said back off!
I can't put myself
in a dangerous situation
and go home to my kids and deal
with an aftermath, potentially,
from me being warned multiple times
since I've been here.
It launched itself at me. That was real.
My well-being and my body
is worth way more than anything else.
I'm done.
I'm tapping out.
I can't ask you to stay
and put yourself at risk,
and then something happens to you.
That makes me responsible.
[Brandy] That puts a lot of pressure
on me, because
I don't want you to feel
you have to leave because of me.
You can't worry about me.
Brandy is in pure panic mode
at this point.
If she taps out,
I completely understand, 100%.
Even though that will leave me vulnerable.
If something happens to me,
I get taken over, then what?
Who's coming to save me?
[Brandy] I don't even want to go back
in the building.
[Jereme] The reality for me is,
I can't do it without you either,
because I can't do it by myself.
[Brandy] I really don't know what to do.
I know I can't run from it,
because that's what it wants us to do.
And then what?
It's like my brain is telling me,
"Brandy, stick it out,"
but my intuition's like, "Don't do it."
[Jereme] I understand the struggle.
I believe whatever is
that's attacking me,
whether it's demonic or the father energy,
continues to torment the spirits
of this family in the afterlife.
If I leave, they'll never get the closure
that they're looking for
and be able to heal.
And that's a lot of pressure.
Well, that's where my head
is at right now,
thinking about how I can do this.
Because I want to do this,
you know what I mean?
I want to complete this,
I want to get the story told.
I want to figure out the mystery,
I want to communicate, I want to do this.
[groaning]
What to do?
This is a spiritual connection and attack.
My body can only handle so much.
It's making me physically ill.
The energies keep attacking.
We know that. What am I supposed to do?
[mumbling] I don't know.
This entity is the strongest upstairs
where we sleep.
That's leaving my energy depleted,
which is opening me up for attacks.
I think my only option is either,
at this point,
to either leave
or move the beds down here.
And I think that, honestly,
I can finish this out
if I'm able to have rest
where I feel more comfortable
in the building.
So, I think we should just take the chance
on just sleeping down here
and see how it goes from there.
Hey, I mean, whatever you think
works for you works for me.
You sleep, I sleep.
All right. I'm gonna get
my blanket and pillow.
I ain't going up there by myself.
Brandy has decided to stay,
which I'm very, very happy that she did,
because we need to solve this case.
But I think Brandy is in danger,
of course,
because she's going to continue
to be a target.
Right there.
Not to mention, I'm not Superman.
I'm a human being.
I am just as vulnerable to this
as anyone else is.
[narrator]
The investigators have persevered
and made it to the second week
of the 28-day cycle.
But the last phase saw the teams
pushed to their breaking points,
and Brandy was on the brink
of tapping out.
If Ed and Lorraine's theory holds true,
with less than two weeks left
in the cycle,
the teams will need to galvanize
and push themselves
further outside their comfort zones.
If they can do that, they'll reap
the benefits of their tenacity
with new revelations
and staggering breakthroughs.
[ominous music]
I chose to do this experiment and live
in this place for 28 days because
I have a chance to communicate with
spirits like I have never done before.
But we're getting blocked and messed with
by the spirits in the house.
We're fighting with each other,
and the investigation's
not moving forward.
We need some sort of breakthrough
to find out what happened here.
There is such a huge volume
of spirits at Captain Grant's
like I've never seen on any investigation.
It makes it hard to psychically
communicate with any of them.
But I've had some luck communicating
with Adelaide, the wife of Captain Grant.
Adelaide visited me again in a dream.
She pointed to the backyard,
the opposite direction
of where she pointed to in my last dream.
I have to imagine that she's sending me
another message,
and I have to follow that lead.
All right, let's see
what we can find here.
I want to see if I can get Nick and Aaron
on board and galvanize the team.
We need to move past the infighting.
So I'm asking Nick to come with me,
because his knowledge of tech
could be useful.
We're coming out to take your photograph.
[Sean] We're taking the thermal imaging
camera and see what we can pick up on.
The thermal imaging camera is perfect
for this investigation,
because it allows us to see in the dark,
and it could pick up hot spots
that signify paranormal activity.
[Nick] It's picking up on balls
of temperature fluctuations to your right.
[narrator] Thermal imaging cameras
have become a useful tool
for investigating the paranormal,
because they can detect infrared energy
and make them into visual images
which are not visible to the naked eye,
such as a spirit or entity.
The hell's this?
Why is the ground hot right here?
Why don't you stand
right in the middle of it.
I'm getting, like, weird feelings.
[Nick]
I've got a lot of tools in my arsenal.
So I'm gonna come back and see
what's creating this hot spot
and see if it is truly
something paranormal.
Could be nothing.
Could be an underground well.
Could be an underground power box.
But I'm going to find out.
We'd better turn back up to the house.
Aaron's probably wondering what happened.
[dramatic music]
[Amy sighs]
Right now our investigation's
at a standstill
because Amy won't do any experiments
outside of her comfort zone.
She's the sensitive on our team.
We rely on her to psychically connect
with the spirits to get information.
Ray and I are extremely frustrated.
This is tough, man.
It's going to be hard to investigate now.
She has to understand that:
you're refusing to do anything
to contribute.
Why is she here if we're picking up
all of the info from our?
"What have you contributed so far?"
- "What are you bringing to the table?"
- Yeah.
So now if we try to call her out on this,
what?
Well, and then it'll look like me and you
are ganging up on her,
and that's not what I want.
But at the same time
We have to find some way to move forward.
And I want all of us to be able
to work together with no issues.
Lay it out. Right now.
So, what do you wanna do?
Do you wanna confront or?
We confront her about the situation,
and we can tell her how we feel.
[Shane] As far as the team dynamic
right now,
Amy is lacking as a teammate,
and we need all three of us
firing on all cylinders.
If we're not doing that,
the whole operation is going to cave in.
And that is not something I want to do.
I'm not sacrificing time away
from my family for this to be for nothing.
All right, so I have a couple
of concerns I want to talk to y'all about.
Things that's been bothering me lately.
Um
And I'm concerned because your energy
And sometimes you're like,
"No, I won't do experiments."
I will not do mirror scrying.
That's the only thing I won't do.
I'm not connecting with the dark stuff.
That wasn't a team decision.
- Hold on. Whatever you want
- I'm sorry, don't I get a choice in that?
We have to address this now
because we're, again
We're at a critical point where I want
the whole team to see the finish line.
A lot of our evidence has come
from the spirits of this house
through our experiments and me.
Again, it's not an attack.
My main thing too is we need you,
especially, like, you're able
to see things we are not able to see
and communicate with spirits
unlike we're able to do it.
Just imagine, if we're a collective team,
all high energy,
just imagine what the hell
we can do, honestly.
[Amy] Moving forward, I mean,
I'm just gonna try to compromise
so that I can fit the experiments
to where my boundaries lie.
Cool.
But I don't mess with mirrors and portals.
Um, candle scrying, maybe?
- [Amy] I'll do the candle thing.
- [Shane] Awesome.
[Amy] Because I usually do that
with, like, a meditation and stuff. So
Okay.
Candle scrying, it's almost like
a meditative state,
and you don't want to, like,
stare right at the candle.
You do a soft gaze and look through it.
Everything just starts to dissipate away,
and I'm able to ask the spirits
that are here in the house
to try to join me so that we can try
to communicate together.
So I think we have a plan. Okay?
From now on, we sit here,
we communicate with each other,
come up with a game plan together.
- Good?
- [Amy] Good talk.
- Awesome. Are you good?
- Yeah, I'm good.
[dramatic music]
[Shane]
Now that Amy's agreed to candle scry,
we're trying to figure out
what this dark energy was in the attic.
Is this a spirit of the killer
or something else entirely?
We think the spirits of Cara and Marianne
have more to tell us,
and we're hoping Amy can find out
what that is.
[narrator] Candle scrying is the act
of staring into a flame
in order to connect with spirits.
In the case of Amy,
she'll sit several feet from the candle
and gaze into it
for an extended period of time.
Then, using her psychic ability,
allow the spirits of Cara and Marianne
to show her images in the flame
that will help the team solve the mystery
of the Lumber Baron Inn.
- [Shane] So where are you going to sit?
- I'm just gonna put it on the hardwood.
- [Shane] Okay.
- [Ray] Good to go?
[Shane] Yeah.
You got the recorder going?
- [Amy] I will.
- Okay.
All right. I'll be back
in about ten minutes.
[Amy clears throat]
[Amy] No guarantees.
[Shane] That's fine. It's trial and error.
[eerie music]
[Amy] Is there anyone here
in the light,
who would like to talk to me?
Are you one of the girls?
Flicker the light.
Starting to kind of feel really
uncomfortable.
[whispering] I'm seeing shadows.
Right up there.
Shadow.
Going this way.
Look up.
I saw it go like this.
From my room.
[whispering]
I say we let this play out.
Is there a female in here with us?
I can see somebody walking
from the doorway.
Starting to feel very uneasy.
[whispering]
It's quiet. Do you hear her?
Having a hard time breathing again.
[gasps]
Guys!
Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
[dramatic music]
Ready?
Since we moved our beds downstairs,
I've been able to get some sleep,
and I'm starting to feel a bit better.
It's been couple days, but I finally feel
ready to continue with the investigation.
Oh, so this is the Tobacco Room, hm?
[narrator] Brandy and Jereme
are going to use a spirit box
in concert with Brandy's abilities,
in an attempt to communicate
directly with the father in the photo.
They're going to do this in a room
at Madison Dry Goods
known as the Tobacco Room.
In our last investigation,
I connected with the mother energy,
and I now believe that the father energy
not only killed his family,
but he impregnated his oldest daughter.
Tonight, I want to try
to directly contact the father energy.
I want to know if there's a connection
between his daughter's pregnancy
and why he murdered his family.
Are you ready?
All right, let me turn this radio low.
[Brandy]
I need to speak to the father energy.
Are you with us right now?
[garbled audio]
- Hi.
- Hi.
[footsteps thudding]
- Hear that?
- What is that?
Walking.
Hear it?
I hear it. Brandy. No, no.
[Brandy] I'm not.
Are you walking around us?
Start walking again if you're walking.
[footsteps thud]
Who is that?
I need to know.
Answer me, please.
[garbled audio]
[Jereme] Sounds like "Charlie."
[Brandy] Did you say your name
was Charlie?
[voice] Charlie.
[gasps] Holy shit.
[loud thud]
Charlie.
Charlie, listen to me.
Did you just make a noise upstairs?
Charlie?
[Brandy] What would cause you to do
something so horrible to your family?
Man, I got a freaking headache.
Oh, my God.
[Brandy]
Charlie, I need you to stand back.
[garbled voice]
Said, "Out."
You want us to get out?
We're dealing with an entity
that calls itself Charlie.
Maybe it's the dad, maybe it's not.
However, it's powerful.
[narrator] Perhaps Jereme and Brandy
were pulled to the Tobacco Room
because, what they don't know,
is that the father in the photo
was a tobacco farmer.
And his name was Charlie Lawson.
[Jereme] What I want to do next
is provoke this entity
and see if I can get it to reveal itself
and see exactly what we're dealing with.
The faster we get answers, the faster
we can go and leave you guys alone.
[glass shatters faintly]
What the?
[Jereme] Calm down.
That son of a bitch don't scare me.
[Brandy] Oh, it scared the shit out of me.
I'm good with that.
[ominous music]
[gasps]
Oh, no, no, no, no. Guys!
Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
I can't move my legs.
- Are you okay?
- [Amy] I can't move.
Something just touch
Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Mm-mm.
[Shane]
Something touched you where?
[Amy] It was literally right here.
Oh, my God.
I'm thinking that this dark presence is
the spirit of Cara and Marianne's killer.
I'm just a little freaked out.
[exhales] Whoa.
- Careful.
- Okay, I'm gonna turn the lights on.
[Amy] I think the girls were gonna show me
something about the murders,
or they were gonna give me
some type of information about the killer.
And all of a sudden, I just felt something
come at me and just hit me in the side.
He was very angry, he was very violent,
and he hated women.
The killer is physically capable
of manifesting enough
that it can physically touch you.
That's scary.
I hate being touched.
- Was it like, I'm getting your attention?
- It could've been.
I just freaked the fuck out
because I was like, "Nope. Nope. Nope."
This entity is powerful.
and it physically attacked her before
she could figure out what it was hiding.
It's made me realize I need to step up.
It isn't fair to put it all on Amy.
I think I'm finally ready to tap
into my own psychic ability
and try to move
this investigation forward.
In the case of Cara and Marianne's killer,
this is an unsolved crime,
and, as a ghost, he probably wants
to keep it that way.
It'll be interesting to see if Shane can
amplify his newfound psychic abilities,
and if ultimately he will be the key
that unlocks the secrets of this location.
[dramatic music]
Sean and I found a hot spot out back
with a thermal imaging camera,
and he believes that it's something
paranormal.
So I'm coming back with my equipment
to take another look.
I'm gonna start with my metal detector
to rule out it being
some foreign object giving off heat.
[detector warbling]
Well, this is it.
Metal detector's just screaming
over this spot.
Need to dig this up.
[rapid beeping]
I'm almost right on top of it,
I better dig a little more.
Whatever this thing is, being that deep,
it is really old,
or somebody buried it that deep
for a reason.
Either way, something's there.
[beeps and vibrates]
Well, we're right on top of it.
Whoa. Holy shit.
That's like a copper pentagram there.
Whoa. This is, uh
this is kind of spooky.
To find a pentagram.
You know, a pentagram's always meant
the devil and dark stuff and all that.
It makes you wonder
if it's associated
with whatever's attracted
so many spirits to the land.
Sean's gonna freak out when he sees this.
Hey, guys,
can you come out to the fire pit?
Bring the camera.
Yeah, dude. We're on our way.
I can't explain why the thermal imaging
camera picked up a hot spot there.
There's no scientific reason for it.
Look at this.
Oh, that's cool.
[Sean] I wonder what this means.
The pentagram was originally
the symbol for the sacred female,
but then, through Christianity, it became
associated with the devil, or evil.
It's actually more commonly believed
to be used as a symbol
to protect against evil.
I'm not sure
if it was used for good or evil,
but I know it's got a lot
of energy attached to it.
I was out on that spot
that we found with the thermal imaging.
Come inside and clean it up
and see what the hell we can find.
- [Aaron] Good find.
- [Nick] Thank you.
[Sean] We need to find if this pentagram
has a connection
to why these spirits are trapped here.
[dramatic music]
[Brandy] My body's already telling me
not to go up here.
[Jereme] I don't think Brandy's approach
is working.
I mean, calmly asking Charlie questions
is not going to get us anywhere.
So tonight, I want to see if we can
provoke this entity
that calls itself Charlie
and find if he's the father from the photo
who we believed killed his family,
or if it's something demonic.
[Brandy clears throat]
- All right.
- Ready?
You ready?
Turn the box on.
The thought of connecting with this entity
called Charlie is really terrifying.
Once again, I don't think that Jereme
provoking Charlie is a good idea.
I think he's playing with fire.
I've come here to address
the spirit of Charlie.
I want to know what kind of sick man
would kill his entire family.
Including his kids.
Wait. Shh.
You killed your entire family.
In cold blood.
And if anyone deserved to die that day,
it was you, Charlie.
Why did you do it, Charlie?
[Jereme] You know what, Charlie?
You deserve to rot in hell
for what you've done.
Brandy, get out of here. Go. Please.
Get out of here.
I felt it and I heard it.
[Jereme] Get off of me!
[Brandy]
That is not Charlie. That is a demon.
In the name of God, by the cross,
and the resurrection of Jesus,
I say get back!
Get back!
[groans]
- Jereme, come down here.
- What? Brandy, get down there!
[Brandy]
Shit ain't worth it to me.
[Jereme] Get off of me!
We're deep into the 28-day cycle,
in particular with Brandy and Jereme.
How concerned should we be
for what's next for them?
- Because we still have more time to go.
- Well, it's ramping up, as you noticed.
So, what do we have to look forward to?
I believe more intensity, more danger.
According to Ed and Lorraine's case files,
this is when the veil is at its thinnest.
As we've seen at all three locations,
secrets are being revealed as a result.
But Ed and Lorraine also warned
that during this phase of the cycle,
the investigators are at the greatest risk
for possession.
[eerie music]
The girls have something to tell us.
Possibly a secret.
We just had Amy try candle scrying,
and that didn't get us anywhere.
And we still need to figure out
what the killer is hiding.
And the issue that I see us running into
is you're getting bits of information,
you're getting bits of information,
but you're only getting
to a certain point.
I need to step up and do something
outside of my comfort zone
to try to figure out
what the killer is hiding
and what the girls want us to know.
We have to do something drastic.
So here's what we're gonna do.
We have a sensory deprivation tank
that we're going to put together,
and I'm going to go in.
This is the most extreme deprivation
that I've ever seen done in the field.
It's a deep form of meditation.
But, you know, also,
it can be used
to dive deeper into the spiritual world.
It's almost like
you're in a dreamlike state.
We still have all this
negative energy in this house,
so regardless of what our intention is
going into this tank,
all bets are off whenever
that door's shut and you're floating.
It's something that I'm nervous doing,
I'm apprehensive about,
but I know that we've gotta do it.
Let's go.
A sensory deprivation tank
is a tank that is filled up
with about ten inches of water,
800 pounds of salt
to allow you to float.
It blocks out all light, all sound.
I'm hoping the sensory deprivation tank
allows me to tap into my psychic ability,
which is something I've been afraid to do.
[Amy]
What is the salt supposed to do again?
Supposed to make you float.
Make you buoyant.
[crickets chirping]
[Ray] Good luck, bud.
[Sean] Oh, God.
[inhales deeply]
Oh, my gosh.
Staircase. I see the staircase.
The door.
Marianne opens the door.
He makes her get on her knees.
Oh, my God.
She's
She's saying, "Please."
"I need to get home to my baby."
And he shoots her.
Oh, my God, there's There's many more.
[ominous music]
