Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files (2010) s02e19 Episode Script

Glowing Gargoyle & Phantom Feline

- Tonight on "Fact or Faked:".
.
- Oh! - Wow! "Paranormal files".
.
Oh! Let's see if Josh Gates from "Destination Truth" wants to go on this case with us.
It felt like it was staring at me for a couple of seconds, and then it jumped.
Go! Yeah.
Two.
.
One! Yeah! People believe that this could be a spirit manifestation of something that's haunting this park.
Whoa! Whoa! What was that? Devin for Ben, I'm seeing some sort of glowing object.
It could be eyes.
What the [Bleep.]
was that?! It just came right out of that tree.
Whoa! Oh, my goodness! There's a flying saucer.
I'm getting a series of lights right there.
So, you're seeing what I am seeing? What the heck is happening? [ Indistinct conversations .]
Ben: Hey, guys.
Hey, how are you? Good to see you, Ben.
Good, how are you? All right, who thinks they have the most impressive video today? - I've got one.
I have.
.
- Ugh! Why don't we start with Bill? Bill: This video was shot in November that was investigating a bed-and-breakfast called The Prosperity House, which is located in Joplin, Missouri.
Now, 100 years ago, this building served as a large rural school house and is believed by some to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy that was pushed out of an upstairs window.
Focus on the doorway.
Let's take a look at it.
Devin: Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! - What was that? - See that? It does appear to be small in stature like a young child.
There was other evidence that was recorded that night.
.
There's miscellaneous EVPs, and there's even this amorphous, ghost-like images - that's in addition to what we see here.
- Hmm.
I'd like to see that other evidence to see if it warrants a full investigation.
Yeah, exactly, Ben.
I agree with you.
Okay, you know, I'll keep in contact with the team in Missouri and see what other evidence I can get sent.
- Jael: Sounds great.
- Okay.
Ben: Well, who's up? I have one.
I brought a clip that was shot pretty recently, actually, in December of A man named Peter Butler was testing out the infrared feature on his new camcorder at a park near his house when he captured this.
Up there.
- Whoa! - See up there? Whoa! [ Lanisha laughs .]
I'm looking at it, and you can see a tail, and the first thing I thought it was.
.
"Oh, it's a monkey".
Ben, do you mind pausing right on the Cryptid so that we can get a better look? I mean, you can see its eyes glowing, and there's definitely a tail.
This park is actually thought to be haunted since the 19th century.
So people believe that this could be a spirit manifestation of something that's haunting this park.
Or some kind of new, unidentified Cryptid that hasn't been discovered yet.
And we have a video.
We've got a witness.
We've got a great location that has some history to it.
So why don't we put it on the top of our list? - Great.
- Austin: I like that.
Okay? Well, let me tell you about this video that comes from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Now, this is 2011.
.
And the guy goes outside of his house to his porch.
.
Looks up into the afternoon sky, and sees this glowing disk hovering above his house.
So he starts taping it.
This is what he caught.
- The edge of the.
.
- Oh! Whoa! - Wow! - Yeah.
I see it.
Look how they're splitting.
Bill: It's like one light splits into three.
Austin: And then it splits into four.
Did you see that? Yeah, I saw four.
It's like they're coming back together again.
[ Gasps .]
Look at that.
Get out of here.
We've done some cases where we've seen, you know, stunt sky divers and whatnot.
But this.
.
These lights are actually flying horizontally.
They're not coming down.
I zoomed this in 150%.
Boosted the contrast, and then took out the blue channel so you can see this more clearly.
- Bill: There it is.
- There's one.
So, it just kind of appears.
Oh, my God! Austin: If those were balloons.
.
I mean, if it was caught in the Gulf Stream, they'd all be moving in the same direction.
They wouldn't do.
.
This.
I just noticed this.
.
And I know this is my video I'm presenting.
.
But I see a point here where this might be CG.
Take a look at that and watch.
It'll stop here, disappear, and reappear there.
Bill: It does? Jael: Oh, weird.
There's, like, a cut.
Yeah.
You see that? Like a jump cut.
I know I brought this video to you.
But trying to remain, you know, objective, it's easier to do this in CG.
Than to actually capture something like this that's so spectacular.
I don't know.
The resolution of the video is working against us on this because we can't get any definition other than little white orbs.
I agree.
Why don't we see what else we have? Jael: Okay.
I have a really interesting video, and it comes from a historic location famous for paranormal activity.
In 2007, a team of paranormal researchers led by Danny Hutchinson investigated the 230-year-old Talbott Inn and Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky.
They captured I.
R.
video of this illuminated figure, streaking past one of their stationary cameras.
Take a look.
- Devin: Oh! - Bill: I see that! Whoa! It's definitely transparent.
It goes by really fast.
Can we slow it down? I can't tell if it's running on the ground or if it's floating.
Now, if you guys notice, there almost seems to be a tail-like appendage attached to this entity, giving it a feline-like appearance.
Are you trying to say this is a ghost cat? Ghost Kitty.
.
Could possibly be.
What else do you know about the location? It was built in 1779.
Jesse James, Daniel Boone, and even Abraham Lincoln have all stayed there.
The inn has played host to some really tragic events, starting with the Talbott family, who were the original owners.
They had 12 children, 5 of which died in the house.
- Five? - Five.
Well, the Talbott Inn sounds like our type of location.
- Doesn't it? - It does.
And this is good footage.
I mean, we could do a lot of tests with this.
Yeah, I got to agree.
I really like this case, too.
Austin: Think about this.
.
This will be the first time we've ever actually taken on an apparition of smaller size and possibly that of an animal.
I think we should put that up there as one of the contenders today.
Nice.
What's the most compelling one? For me, I love the case of the phantom feline, roaming the Talbott Inn.
And the location has a great back story.
You guys already know which one I'm in for.
.
Talbott Inn all the way.
I want to find out if there's a place for animals in the afterlife.
So I'm gonna go with you to the Talbott Inn.
I like this creature in Beckenham.
If we're talking about going on a monster hunt.
.
- I'm in.
- Yeah.
Yeah, Jael, I'm with you on this one.
I love the playground Cryptid case.
Ben: Okay, Bill, Lanisha, and Austin.
.
Why don't you go to Kentucky to the Talbott Inn? Right.
And, Jael, why don't you and I and Devin go to the U.
K.
All right.
And figure out what this playground creature is? Now, because this is a Cryptid case.
.
I think we can call someone that can help us out with this.
A surprise.
.
Let's see if Josh Gates from "Destination Truth" wants to go on this Cryptid case with us.
- Ooh.
- Devin: Yeah! All right.
So, guys, let's get going.
Awesome.
[ Indistinct conversations .]
So, Josh, we're really excited to have you with us on this one.
Oh, are you kidding? Thrilled to be here.
You know, it's a really cool piece of video.
It's a crypto story, which I really like.
And, of course.
.
I get to work with my old buddy Jael again.
Do you miss me? It's been a while.
You're living the good life now.
Look at this car.
You've got four wheels.
You've got a roof that stays on.
This is first class.
So, guys, we're here in Beckenham, just outside of London.
Now, this video is really unique.
I watched it, like, a thousand times, and it's cool because you can't quite tell what this thing is.
.
You know, it kind of looks like it's humanoid and it sort of doesn't.
.
And there's all these theories floating around about it on the Internet.
I'm really excited to meet Peter.
I want to hear his firsthand account, see what he has to say about what happened that night.
I want to know what he was doing lurking around a kids' playground in the middle of the night with a camcorder.
- Exactly.
- That's, like, question number one for me.
[ Laughter .]
Guys, looks like we've arrived.
All right, let's do it.
- Ben: Hi.
You Peter? - Yeah.
- I'm Ben.
- Hi, Ben.
- This is Josh, Jael, and Devin.
- Hello.
Hi, Josh.
- Nice to meet you.
- Hey.
Nice to meet you.
So, why did you choose to come and film in this park? Well, I grew up in this area and um, there's always rumors of ghosts and things like that in this park.
And, actually, just down there is a big, old tree.
.
Um, that used to have a rope from it, and, supposedly, people hung from that.
What exactly did you do? How was your setup that night? I got into the park and was panning from there, across, which is when, then, I saw the creature.
It felt like it was staring at me for a couple of seconds, and then it jumped.
I heard the branches go at the back, and, well, I was running that way, you know? And what was your initial reaction? Do you think it was an animal of some kind? It was just too dark to see anything.
I first thought it was a person.
I guess it was probably around maybe 41/2 foot.
The closest thing would be a monkey, I would have thought.
With the tail and the fact that it can hunch down on all fours, as well.
Are there festivals or, say, renaissance fairs in this area? There's a place called Chislehurst Caves.
Where they do those live role-playing games and dress up as Elves and Orcs and whatnot.
You're thinking maybe somebody in a costume? Yeah, it's possible.
Do you think it could have been somebody in a costume? [ Exhales sharply .]
It could be.
I mean, there's no reason why it couldn't, but getting up on there dressed up.
.
I wouldn't want to do it.
Now, just to clarify, did you have any involvement in hoaxing this video? I have no involvement in any hoaxes of any kind.
Is that the original camera? Yeah, this is the original camera.
Do you mind if we borrow it for some experiments? Yeah.
No, sure.
Well, Pete, thank you so much for meeting us.
We'll get your camera back to you and see what we can find out.
Yeah.
Cheers, mate.
All right.
- See you guys.
- Thank you.
Bye.
Devin: I really like the fact that he said he heard the creature hit the branches.
That tells me that it's up there and it's in front of the camera.
We could really treat this as a Cryptid case when involving our experiments.
For sure, but what's interesting is, - he doesn't hear it hit the ground.
- Ben: That's true.
You know, he hears no other noises, and this park has this really interesting history of paranormal accounts.
So, in some ways, there's also this paranormal aspect.
Well, you guys ready to go grab our gear and get set up? - All right, sounds good.
Let's go.
- Okay.
Okay.
Getting rainy out, huh? What are we thinking here? From what Pete was telling us, this could be anything from, you know, a misidentification or a hoax.
I mean, it could be just some guy that's out here in a costume in the park.
Absolutely.
I mean, he did mention that there are festivals, renaissance fairs.
So, like a chain-mail suit.
Gates: They do this kind of stuff in the area.
This is the kind of costume that these guys wear.
Maybe somebody's up there on top of the jungle gym, and, you know, it's a person, but on the I.
R.
Cam, it looks like it could be a creature.
People online are speculating that this is what it could be, - so we should test it out.
- Yeah.
It is also in the shape of a castle.
It may have just been someone guarding the playground castle.
[ Laughter .]
You know, we also have to remember that this creature had reflective eyes in the video, right? Ben: Maybe someone was wearing glasses.
But who do we know that wears glasses and that's closer to 41/2 feet than the rest of us? Freakishly short.
Oh, I see what you're getting at.
So, how do you feel about trying to jump off this playground castle? It's about 10 feet up.
There is no try.
There is only do.
Let me see.
Where's my sword? [ Chuckles .]
Ah, thank you.
I'm wearing a chain-mail coif, leggings, and gauntlets.
Now, we're hoping that my sword or scabbard is gonna replicate the tail.
And I'll be able to have glowing eyes with the reflection of my glasses.
Okay? All right.
- Looks good.
- Are we all set? I'm suited up and ready to go.
Jael, I'll help you frame up the camera.
Why don't you scamper up the castle there, get ready? And, Josh, you know what your job is? Keep Devin alive.
I'm on it.
Okay.
Thank you, Sir.
Gates: Okay, be very careful.
It's super slippery with all this rain, man.
- Okay.
- Careful, careful.
All right, so, from here, I'm gonna turn, face you, and I'm gonna jump that way.
I'm ready to do this.
Crash pads are in place.
We got a target for him.
We're good.
- Let's do it.
- Okay.
Man in chain-mail costume.
.
Go.
Okay, it's really shaky.
Quicker this way.
Now go back to the right.
Now count him down.
Three.
.
Two.
.
One.
.
I'm wearing a full chain-mail suit to hopefully replicate the gray and scaly-toned body of the Cryptid that was captured in the original video.
Now, we're hoping that my sword or scabbard is gonna replicate the tail.
And I'll be able to have glowing eyes with the reflection of my glasses.
Hopefully, we'll be able to match the original video.
Man in chain-mail costume.
.
Go.
It's really shaky.
Quicker this way.
Now go back to the right.
Now count him down.
Jael: Three.
.
Two.
.
One.
Oh, my God! [ Laughs .]
There we go.
Okay, the tree is shaking a little bit.
Devin, are you okay? - Yeah.
Woo! - He's all right.
Nice work, buddy.
Seemed to look pretty good.
Let's replay it, see if we got the reflection from your glasses.
There it is.
[ Chuckles .]
Actually, it looks pretty good.
- Not bad.
I'm surprised.
- Better than I thought.
Your sword actually did create somewhat of a tail.
And the chain-mail actually does pick up the light in such a way that it does look kind of scaly.
Just looking at our re-creation video.
.
I'm not seeing that large reflectivity in my glasses I was really hoping for.
Jael: Yeah, that's true.
It's not as bright as whatever we're looking at here.
And when we see the creature in the original video, it's kind of on all fours.
And, even though you're approximating that, - crouching down.
.
- Ben: It's true.
It just feels like whatever we see in the original video is less humanoid.
Yeah, I agree with you, I think we should move on to the theory that this could just be some kind of animal.
Something with a little bit more agility.
Sounds good? All right.
Great.
Are you guys gonna help me get this off? - No, you got it.
- [ Jael chuckles .]
Well, I think what we can do next is look at the possibility that maybe this was some type of misidentified monkey or primate.
You know, maybe it escaped from someone's house or the zoo.
Absolutely.
You know, maybe it's some sort of Lemur.
Lemurs are primates, they have these really long tails, they have very reflective eyes, so it's a possibility that it was something like that.
I like it.
Lemurs do have that very pronounced tail, which would match.
So, I went ahead and contacted a local animal handler.
We've got a Lemur on the way.
Awesome.
Oh, there he is.
Look at him.
Everybody, this is Chris.
- Who's this? - Chris: This is Kurtis.
Hi, Kurtis.
He's a ring-tailed Lemur from Madagascar.
Hey, Kurtis.
Ooh! Hey, there, buddy.
- I think he likes you, Jael.
- Yeah.
What can you tell us about Lemurs? There's about 2,500 of these guys, ring-tails, available in zoos worldwide.
Um, there's probably a couple hundred in the U.
K.
, alone.
They're very, very popular.
- Okay.
- So, how do they feel about jumping? Very good jumpers.
They don't want to jump too often.
Um, but if they have to, they'll go.
We're bringing in the Lemur to see how his physicality is and compare it to our video.
And just looking at the way that he's sitting right now and looking around.
.
I mean, this could have been a primate.
Jael, I'll help you get Kurtis in position.
And, Josh and Devin, if you guys want to get framed up and film this, we can see if what was in the video could be some type of primate.
Great.
Devin: Sounds good.
Let's do it.
Chris, the Lemur is safe with me.
- Good.
- Okay.
Good luck.
Thanks, Chris.
Good luck to you.
This here is a ring-tailed Lemur.
For our next experiment, we're actually gonna use his very prominent tail and his iridescent eyes to see if we can match the creature we saw in the original video.
I'm gonna position Kurtis now on top of the playground.
Okay.
We're standing by.
- There you go.
- Devin: There he is! - Wow! Look at the tail.
- Okay, come over this way.
Yeah, the tail looks great.
- Look at that.
- All right.
Okay, Ben, you ready? Yeah.
Is that good? It looks great from here.
We're ready to go.
Okay, here we go.
I'm starting filming.
Stand by.
And three.
.
Two.
.
One.
- Go.
- Kurtis! [ Whistles .]
- There you go! - Yeah! Oh! [ Laughter .]
All right.
- Jael: How'd it look, guys? - That looked great.
- It looked really good.
- Good job, buddy.
- Devin: That looked great.
- Yeah, it looked good.
Yeah, nice work.
Ben: Well, let's take a look.
Coming down.
- Want to see it side-by-side? - Not bad.
Okay, here we go.
Ready? There he is on top.
[ Gasp .]
- Devin: Look at his eyes! - His eyes are really glowing.
- Whoa! - Jael: Wow! That's good.
The eyes are great.
- The tail looks great.
You know? Yeah.
- I mean, he looks significantly smaller.
The speed of that drop - is just not happening yet.
- Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I have to say, for me, that the parts of it that look really good are.
.
The eyes look great, the tail looked really cool, the way it turned and looked toward camera was great.
But the actual jump.
.
There's still something about the jump in that tape.
.
The way it kind of goes up in the air like it's weightless, then goes down really fast.
.
That just doesn't seem like we're able to - match it completely.
- No.
It's unnatural.
- And I think it's kind of otherworldly.
- Yeah.
Maybe we should just focus on a straight hoax scenario.
Well, if we move into the hoax scenario and we decide we're gonna build something, it's gonna give us a lot more control, and we can make something move in an unnatural way.
.
Maybe get us closer to matching the original video.
All right.
Thanks for your help, Kurtis.
- Devin: Yeah, Kurtis.
- Kurtis, you're wrapped.
So, guys, I think on this one, we should try the straight hoax.
You know, maybe we could take some animatronic dummy and rig it up with a fly-wire apparatus.
Well, if you remember, Pete said that night that it was extremely dark, and, because we have a tree behind us, I think we can use a black dacron line and some pulleys, and it'll look completely invisible up there.
I think the other thing, though, is we really want to try to match the speed of it coming - down out of the tree.
- Yeah.
So why don't we rig a second pully system into the ground? That way, we can use one to pull it up in the air and another to pull it down really quickly.
- I like that.
- Ben: That's a great idea.
Yeah.
So, we can use a simple system in the neck and make the head rotate, light up the eyes, and use it all with remote controls.
I don't know what you're talking about, but it sounds cool.
- It'll be really simple.
- I'm into it.
Let's do it.
Well, I'll help you with that, Devin, if Jael and Josh.
.
You guys want to go hook up that pulley system, get it rigged, and ready to set up? - Yeah, let's grab the gear.
- Sounds good.
Okay.
Cool.
Yeah.
Sledgehammer.
All right, Ben, so, this servomotor here is attached to the head, so let's give this a little test.
- Okay.
Power him on.
- Power it on.
Go for it.
- [ Laughing .]
Hey! - Coming alive.
You know, we may only get, like, one shot at this.
It is pretty delicate.
Okay, Jael, lower pulley's ready to go.
How you doing up there? Almost there.
Ben, this looks good.
All right, guys, the pulley system on the tree is ready to go.
All right.
Coming to you.
Okay.
So, why don't we just give this a quick test? Sounds good.
Here come the eyes.
[ Laughing .]
Oh.
That looks good.
Oh, he's scared.
I'm gonna be pulling downward, and that's gonna get our dummy to jump upward the way he does in the original footage.
Josh is behind me, and he's gonna be pulling from underneath, and that's gonna hopefully give him that force to fall down with that supernatural speed that we're seeing.
You guys ready? - Yeah.
- Yeah, let's do it.
Okay, demon-puppet experiment is begun.
Okay, get ready, Devin.
Eyes.
And three.
.
Two.
.
One.
All right! So, this is our animatronic Cryptid.
It has a servomotor in its neck, which rotates its head.
It's also got lights for eyes, which will help us with the glowing eyes that our Cryptid had in the original video.
Hopefully, this, attached to a pulley system, will replicate the original video.
You guys ready? - Yeah.
- Yeah, let's do it.
Okay, demon-puppet experiment is begun.
Okay, get ready, Devin.
Eyes.
And three.
.
Two.
.
One.
All right! [ Laughter .]
Well.
.
He survived.
He's a little hung up there.
Why don't we play this back? Okay.
Here's our re-creation here.
[ Devin laughs .]
The one thing is that, I think if you were looking at something that was reflected, you would see two eyes.
When this shows up in I.
R.
, they look like one giant light.
So, I don't know if it was something that was illuminated by battery power.
And the downward motion is right.
I mean, it leaves frame quickly.
It drops down quickly just like it does in the original video.
But, you know, the rest of it.
.
- It doesn't feel very organic.
- Jael: Right.
Right? It feels kind of stiff.
It's kind of ungainly.
.
The way it's sitting up there.
It doesn't have that organic look that - the creature in the video had.
- No.
Our dummy definitely looked like a puppet.
It's interesting, because it seems like we were able to re-create elements of the original video in each of the experiments, but none of the experiments were able to re-create the entire thing.
Well, we covered all of our bases for in-camera possibilities.
It was either a person, an animal, or a puppet of some sort or an animatronic.
We've ruled those, potentially, out.
Peter did mention that there were other people that said that they have had sightings of some kind of creature.
So, you know, in order to be thorough, we should probably do a night investigation and see what we can find ourselves.
I mean, there's woods all around here.
Certainly, we.
.
You know, in the spirit of being thorough.
We should go check the grounds and see if we can figure out if there are any unknown animals here or if we can collect any paranormal evidence.
- Right.
- And we've got four people this time.
We can cover a lot of ground.
That's right.
Why don't we get to it? - Yeah.
Sounds good.
- All right, sounds good, guys.
Let's go.
So, our animatronic friend here didn't work so well.
So that leaves us with the possibility that Pete really saw something that was unnatural in nature.
We're gonna see if we can turn anything up in a night investigation.
All right.
It looks like you're all set up, Devin.
Yes.
Base camp is ready.
Here's what we've got.
.
Four infrared cameras covering this entire park.
We have two infrared cameras covering both tree lines on either side of us.
We've also got an infrared camera on a pathway on along with the hanging tree, as well as an infrared camera pointing right at the hanging tree.
- Great.
- Okay.
You know, I want to cover the ghost side of things.
So I'm gonna take with me an E.
F.
Meter, audio recorder, maybe do some EVP sessions down by the hanging tree.
And I'm really interested in this kind of.
.
The creature-hunt side of this thing and.
.
There's this whole area we haven't explored yet.
You've got these forests around here.
I'll take the FLIR.
.
You know, that'll be great in trying to pick up anything that's giving off heat out there.
Jael: Sounds good.
Here's some walkies.
You guys are pairing off, so take one and keep in contact.
- All right.
- Ben, that's for you.
- You guys ready to go green? - Yes! Let's do it.
Let's go green.
All right.
- All right.
- All right.
Here we go.
.
Back in the saddle, Jael.
[ Chuckles .]
Here we go.
Ben: Hey, Devin, I'm heading into the forest now.
I've been hearing rustling, like, out here in the park.
I'll keep you updated.
Copy that, Ben.
Looks like a little path back here.
It definitely goes back.
It just kee.
.
[ Flapping .]
[ Gasps .]
Gates: It sounded like it was coming from above, but I don't have any heat signatures up there at all.
I mean, I don't know what it is, but it.
.
I mean, there's something here.
Hey, Devin, Jael and I are hearing something moving around in here.
We're at the far end of the field.
We're gonna push into the woods a little bit and see if we can follow it.
Copy that.
Whoa! Whoa! What was that? Devin for Ben, do you copy? Go ahead.
I'm seeing some sort of glowing object.
It could be eyes over by the hanging tree.
Can you get there as soon as possible? Yeah, copy that.
On my way.
Hey, Devin, I'm at the hanging tree now.
It is dead silent.
I don't see the eyes that you said were over here, but I have a couple of ideas.
[ Gasps .]
What the [Bleep.]
was that?! Right back there.
It was right in here.
That was loud.
There is something moving around out there.
Ben: Okay.
All right.
I'm underneath the hangman's tree, starting an EVP session.
I've heard legends about this tree, that it was a tree that was used to hang people.
If somebody's here, can you move that rope and swing it back and forth if you're here? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Look at that! All right.
I'm underneath the hangman's tree, starting an EVP session.
I've heard legends about this tree, that it was a tree that was used to hang people.
If somebody's here, can you move that rope and swing it back and forth if you're here? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Look at that! Whoa, whoa! What is that? Devin for Josh and Jael, I just saw some sort of creature scurry across the infrared camera.
I think it's in the direction you're headed.
Okay, we're gonna hustle over there right now and check it out.
That sounds really promising.
Copy that.
Let me know.
Let's go.
- Okay, there's the I.
R.
Cam.
- There's the bench.
There's a bench.
There's a bench.
Okay.
Jael, maybe these bushes right here? Uh, you know, I don't know.
It's prob.
.
Could be pretty stealthy.
[ Flapping .]
What the [Bleep.]
was that?! Oh, my God.
I thought the whole tree was gonna come down.
Whatever the [Bleep.]
that was just came out of that tree.
It just came right out of that tree.
That was huge.
What the.
.
[ Flapping .]
Aah! What was that?! Jael: After we patrolled the park for hours, we came up empty.
I mean, Josh and I had gotten some mysterious heat signatures with out thermal imager, but then we realized that they were just animals that were in the park.
Now, I was interested in this hanging tree.
I saw the noose move, but it turns out it was just the wind.
The EVP session that I did also resulted in nothing.
- Hum.
- What do you guys think about it? At the end of the day, we couldn't replicate it using our experiments.
We found no evidence of otherworldly Cryptid activity.
So we're leaning towards it was something that was possibly faked, maybe CG.
Yeah, given the fact that we were able to replicate certain elements of the original video and that we came up empty during our night investigation, I would lean more towards CG.
I was willing to entertain the idea this was not CG because it wasn't a locked-off shot.
But we tried a lot of different things, and I think, on this one, we can say that this was computer graphic.
Yep, I'm gonna have to agree.
Faked.
- Wow.
Yeah, buddy.
- Well, you know what? Good job, guys.
Bill, tell us about Kentucky and the haunted inn that you guys investigated.
You know, it was a good case, and it was full of surprises.
This is it, guys.
.
Bardstown, Kentucky.
Now, with all of the famous distilleries in the area, this place is well-known for spirits.
But we're here to investigate the famously haunted Talbott Inn and Tavern, which is well-known for spirits of the ghostly type.
The inn itself was built in 1779, and it's actually the oldest Western stagecoach in America.
This inn has seen more than its ir share of tragedies.
children died in the house.
One of them, Becca Talbott, committed suicide, by hanging, in one of the staircases.
Well, Bill, that's interesting because many visitors claim to see the spirit of a young girl roaming the second floor.
Now, there have been numerous reports of paranormal activity, but none are quite as intriguing as the one that brought us into the case, and it shows what looks like a spectral feline.
Austin: Now, the footage was captured by a team of paranormal investigators led by Danny Hutchinson, who were there investigating the inn.
Lanisha: Well, I've spoken with Danny, and he's agreed to meet us at the inn to discuss his experience investigating the place.
But first, we're gonna meet with the owner, Jack Kelly, and hear a little bit about the history there.
Hey.
How you doing? How we doing? - Good.
Jack? - Jack Kelly.
Hi, Jack.
I'm Bill.
Bill, yeah.
- Pam? - Pam.
Hello.
- This is Lanisha.
Hi.
- And this is Austin.
Can you tell us about some of the reported paranormal hotspots here at the inn? Well, the room we're in right now is the pub.
We have activity in this room.
They'll come up, and they'll pull your clothes, or they'll pull on your hair or poke you or call your name out, stuff like that.
We have the Jesse James room.
We have some old murals up there, and they have bullet holes in them.
And the story says that Jesse and them used it for target practice up there.
We have room number 5.
.
That's the George Washington suite.
There's a green chair in there, and they said that they seen a man sitting in the chair in old-time, you know, uniform.
And the back hallway.
.
It's really active.
Okay.
Well, thank you so much for your time.
We're gonna go meet with Danny, the gentleman who shot the video that brought us here.
- Okay.
All right, we'll let you know.
- Thanks again.
We'll see you.
- Hi.
Danny, right? - Hutchinson: Hello.
- Lanisha.
Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.
Bill: So, Danny, tell us about what brought you here the night you recorded this video.
We'd actually investigated this place a few times over the years, and it's been a hot topic, you know, for all paranormal teams, so we wanted to try it out.
When that video was captured, where was the rest of the team, and yourself included? All of us was out on the balcony before the investigation.
So you guys hadn't even - started the investigation.
- Right.
What kind of camera were you using to document this? It was a Sony Handycam.
And do you remember the settings that you had it on? It was.
.
It just had night shot, the standard I.
R.
And where was the camera placed? It was over here on the tripod beside this glass case.
We had it facing through this hallway to our base room right there.
And when did you realize that you had captured something on video? During the review.
Afterwards.
Do you think that what you caught on tape is evidence of paranormal activity? I would say so just because it's transparent and unexplainable, but, I mean, it's one of them things we'll leave up to you guys to find out.
All right.
Danny, thank you so much for your time.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
I think the first thing we should do is test a natural explanation for what Danny caught on video.
Let's test the idea that maybe what we're seeing is simply a live cat that's been misidentified and was caught running through frame.
I think we could test it.
I mean, this could be fun.
- Well, let's see.
- All right.
- There's only one way to find out.
- Let's get to it.
All right.
Austin: I went ahead and contacted action animal, and we have our very own stand-in stunt cat.
His name's Fred.
Bill: You know what? In the interview with Danny, he did say that he was shooting in night shot mode.
What this would do is, it'll slower down the frame rate and it could create some motion blur.
You know, maybe a stray animal wandered in without the investigators knowing about it.
I'll go ahead and stand outside of frame with Fred here, and I'll wait for your cue, Bill.
I'll release Fred and keep my fingers crossed.
All right, and I'll be on the receiving end, and I'll lure Fred with some treats and get him to come to me.
- Okay.
- Let's see what happens.
Austin, you ready? I'm ready.
Lanisha, you standing by with the treats? Lanisha: I have them in the bowl.
- Oh, he sees the treats.
He's ready.
- [ Chuckling .]
Oh.
All right, guys.
We're now rolling.
So, Austin, on three.
.
Two.
.
One.
Release cat.
- Go get it.
- Come here, Fred.
Come here, Fred.
Look! So, this is Fred.
He is our official stunt cat.
He's gonna be playing the part of our ghostly apparition.
We're gonna see if this is what we're seeing in the original video.
All right, guys.
We're now rolling.
So, Austin, on three.
.
Two.
.
One.
Release cat.
- Go get it.
- Come here, Fred.
- Come here, Fred.
Look! - Go get the treats.
There you go! You know what? It's not bad.
- Let's do a side-by-side comparison.
- Okay.
There he goes.
Oh, nice! - Okay, it looks good.
- Austin: All right.
So, what we have is an object about the right size of what we see in the original clip, - but I can see the cat's legs.
- Yeah.
And that's not matching to what we have here.
It's just not quite as transparent.
I agree.
The transparency is definitely off.
I basically just see a cat.
I mean, shooting in I.
R.
, definitely slowed the frame rate to the point where, you know, Fred is slightly blurred, but not transparent.
If you notice in the original video, it starts slightly off the ground.
You're totally right.
So it's almost like we need to have something partially airborne and then continue on the ground.
So it looks like we don't need Fred any more, huh? We're done working with you, right, Bud? - Nice work, Fred.
- Yeah, good sport.
We just tested our most popular natural explanation.
.
That what we're seeing in the original video is an actual cat running through the room.
.
And we had some noticeable discrepancies.
So now we're gonna move on to another experiment that will provide us with more control.
Hey, guys.
- Hey, what's up? - Hey.
You know what? When we did our side-by-side comparison of the early experiment, it was clear that the entity was gliding across the floor.
.
Smooth, fast.
.
In way that the cat was simply unable to do.
.
- Yeah.
- Which brought to mind.
.
A remote-control car.
- Oh, okay.
- Yeah.
I mean, think about it.
.
It's pretty much the exact same size and shape.
It even has the antenna that we're seeing in the original video.
- True.
- The only thing is, if we use an RC car, this is implying that it was probably a hoax.
I mean, that's plausible.
When I'm looking at the original video, right here when the object first enters the frame, it looks like it's almost - already in the air.
- Yeah.
So what we could do is build a small ramp for the RC car, set it right outside the frame, and that way, as the RC car launches off the ramp, it appears like it's in the air in front of camera.
Perfect.
I'm gonna go get started on building that ramp.
And you know what? I'm gonna spray this car white to better match what we see in the video.
Oh, that's a good call.
Austin: Right now we have our work station.
Bill's spray-painting our RC car white, about the same color as the apparition in the original video, and I'm building a launch ramp so when this thing initially comes into frame, it'll already be airborne.
Alright guys, I'm all framed up and ready to go.
Are you guys ready? - Ready.
- Austin: Yep.
All right.
Let's start the car experiment in three.
.
Two.
.
One.
Go! - [ Laughing .]
Yeah! Yeah! - Hey, did that look any better? Why don't you guys check out a side-by-side? - Okay.
- All right.
Well, the color and shape look good to me.
The fact that we're using night mode.
.
It's creating that motion blur.
But I don't see the transparency in our re-creation that I see in the original clip.
And the trajectory was obvious.
I mean, you could see when it landed.
It was kind of like a hard landing.
When you look at this original clip, it just looks it just goes in such a linear path.
- Yeah.
- You don't have that bounce.
I just think there's way too many inconsistencies here.
The more I look at the original video, it seems like the figure is almost.
.
It's almost like it's not a physical thing in the room.
Maybe we should just move on from this whole motion-blur theory.
Exactly.
So, let's go back to the drawing board and completely change our approach.
So far both physical objects that we've tested didn't really yield the ethereal qualities that we're seeing from the original footage.
So we are gonna move on to another experiment.
Only this time, we're gonna approach it from an entirely new angle.
We need a new game plan to figure out what's gonna give us that transparency that we've been lacking with these physical objects.
Well, it looks illuminated to me, so what if it's a light being reflected onto the ground? Well, I mean, we knew the camera was locked off, right? And, so, the apparition appears to be moving.
So that means if it's a light source, the light source had to be moving, like maybe headlights from passing cars on the street? So, let's look at the geometry of this room here.
Now, the car headlights could be shining off of, let's say, the window panes.
- Okay.
- Or this cabinet.
.
Look at the glass on the front.
Okay.
And we got this glass cabinet here.
- True.
- Come to think of it, though, we're on the second floor.
So if it's car headlights, do you really think that they would shine all the way up here? You guys, there is a roundabout right outside, and the road does run perpendicular to these windows right here.
We are on the second floor, but that angle could work.
There's really only one way to find out.
Let's just put it to the test.
All right.
I'll drive.
- Here you go.
- Thank you.
I'll let you guys know when I'm in position.
- Okay.
- Okay.
For this experiment, we're exploring the theory that headlights from a passing car were projected into the room, creating what looks like the apparition seen in Danny's original video.
I'm all framed up, and I'm recording.
Okay, Austin, we're ready to run this test.
Are you behind the wheel? I'm in position, ready to put the pedal to the metal on your mark.
On three.
.
Two.
.
One.
Roundabout.
Here I come.
Jael: An astounding video surfaced online in June of 2011 depicting a large Boulder inexplicably floating in the woods of northern California.
Some believe this to be proof of alien anti-gravity technology at work.
But is this hovering stone Fact or Faked? The answer coming up.
Jael: Many online viewers claim this footage of a floating stone proves the existence of alien anti-gravity technology.
But is this clip Fact or Faked? Faked.
When posted on various sites online, the video quickly took on a life of its own.
While many were convinced, investigation into the clip revealed the online poster to be a well-known computer-graphics artist and this footage to be his latest CGI project.
Remember, it's important to always check your sources.

Roundabout.
Here I come.
Guys, how'd that look? Austin, why don't you join us for a side-by-side comparison? Copy that.
I'm gonna park this thing, and I'll head up.
- Let me get this ready.
- Here he is.
All right, guys.
Right there.
Lanisha: The path that our light takes is simply the wrong path.
Austin: You know, it might be because the light is so far away, it actually has to travel from window to window.
I mean, the shape's wrong, too.
You can even see the hatches in the window.
But I think we're on the right track.
I think it is light being reflected.
It may not be coming from outside.
It could be light originating inside this room.
Let's think about what they were doing.
They set the camera up, started recording, and then they went on a break.
- Okay.
- And they headed - out to the balcony.
- Okay.
- They probably all had flashlights.
- Yeah.
And if they're just.
.
Maybe inadvertently bounced the light and the camera recorded it, because you don't see what's out of frame.
So, you guys want to test this? - Yeah.
- You know what? Let's see down here.
.
With the door opening.
And, remember, the path that it has to go is from here to here.
So whatever it reflects off, it has to be able to make that path.
Look at this.
.
It goes across the ground.
- Um.
.
- I'm gonna frame up.
Hold up.
- They went out on the balcony.
.
He said that in the interview.
So let me see what happens if I'm outside the balcony, okay? - Okay.
- Tell me what it looks like.
Okay.
So, Austin, how's that looking? You know what, Bill? The camera is picking it up.
As soon as you get to where the door starts, go ahead and angle it down to the base of the fireplace.
- Like this? - Bill, that movement's perfect.
- Looks pretty good.
- [ Laughing .]
Hey! Bill: Now, being that it was dark, we knew that there was a very strong possibility that the original investigators that captured this footage were using flashlights during their nighttime setup.
So I simply went out on the balcony with the flashlight, and I was shining it in through the windows and through the glass door.
- Here's what that looks like.
- Hmm.
Ben: Wow! Lanisha: Yeah, that's pretty darn close, right? - Jael: That's a match.
- Mm-hmm.
The color, shape, and transparency.
.
Spot on.
We feel confident that's what you're seeing in the original clip.
It's simply a play of light, and it's a flashlight across the floor.
Well, you know, I also have to say this.
.
You can almost see a tail coming from your light source.
I mean, I feel like you guys created a ghost cat.
Austin: And like we said earlier, you think.
.
There were a bunch of investigators all with flashlights out on the balcony at the exact same time that this video was shot, and that's the best place we were able to get these results.
And that would account for why they didn't see it until reviewing the footage days later.
Exactly.
So, taking this all into account, what is now your opinion on the video that brought you there? We were able to explain the video to our satisfaction, to be honest with you.
I think it was likely that rogue light source.
I totally agree with you.
You guys nailed this.
- Jael: Yeah.
- Yep.
- Ben: Awesome job, guys! - Good job, guys!
