NCIS New Orleans (2014) s04e02 Episode Script

No. 1 Fan

1 (groaning softly) Oh, God.
Oh.
Oh, my God.
(classical piano playing) Hello? Anybody?! Let me out! (crying): Why are you doing this? Please! Boom, boom, boom, boom Bang, bang, bang, bang Boom, boom, boom, boom How, how, how, how Hey, hey NCIS:New Orleans 4x02 No.
1 Fan You gotta come on.
Our missing sailor is Lindsey Kirk.
Petty officer out of Belle Chasse.
NOPD responded to a domestic disturbance in her apartment a few nights ago.
Cops went in.
No one home.
Didn't see signs of forced entry.
Figured she was out of town and left it alone.
What's changed? LASALLE: Petty Officer Kirk hasn't reported to duty two days running.
C.
O.
got concerned.
What else do we know? GREGORIO: Question is, what are you still doing at NCIS when you're supposed to be scarce? What are you talking about? I'm, uh-- I'm hands-free, I'm crossing the Twin Span Because I could hear the sax player on St.
Ann Street through the phone.
(saxophone playing in background) You ever consider a career as a detective? Look, I just got a late start, I'm packing now.
And considering coming here before you leave? Well, if you think you need me.
No, I think we need for you to go.
Okay, just make sure you check the NamUs database, alert state troopers LASALLE: And call the sheriff's office.
We got this.
You got to go.
Okay? Work-life balance.
This is good for your sanity, Pride.
Hey, the marlin are running.
Try and have fun out there.
Yeah, I know, it's just hard when you got a case.
GREGORIO: Father-daughter fishing trip requires both father and daughter.
Now get.
Okay, but if you need me, you know that you (beep) Hello Hello? Can you hear me? What? Well, you think Pride's really gonna give up his badge for a fishing pole and a daiquiri? Yeah, I just think he needs a little tough love to do it.
(scoffs) Look, I've worked with Pride for a long time, all right, Gregorio? I've seen him miss birthdays, anniversaries, you name it.
"Vacation" is not in his vocabulary.
People change, Lasalle.
Yeah.
We'll see about that.
PRIDE: Oh, hell.
I left my tackle box up in the room.
Can you get it, Sebastian, for me? SEBASTIAN: Yeah.
- It's in the corner, by the desk.
- I got it.
What's up, Roy? You have a visitor.
PRIDE: Hello? (chuckles softly) You just light up a room, Dwayne Pride.
Man, it is so good to see you.
(chuckles) You want to tell your bodyguard I'm cool? I'm sorry, d-do we know each other? (chuckles) Martha Roberts.
We spent a long, rainy evening together in the back room of the criminal district court.
June, 2002? We did? Sure.
I'll never forget it.
You, me, Judge Tarlington, and some of the most scintillating secret testimony about organized crime I have ever had the honor to hear.
(chuckles) Yeah, well, Martha, um, I'm glad to see you again.
I'd love to catch up, but I'm afraid I have to run.
No, no, no, no.
I didn't-- I didn't come to swap old war stories, I'm here about a case.
Seems the fates have brought mentor and mentee back together again.
Tell me things about Lindsey Kirk.
How do you know about Petty Officer Kirk? Name came across the police scanner.
I'm thinking she's Mr.
Lonesome's latest victim.
Mister who? Mr.
Lonesome.
That's what I call him.
Sadistic serial killer, been taking women across Louisiana for a decade.
And Mr.
Lonesome is my white whale.
That's one of the reasons I gave up my typing gig.
So I could focus on him full-time.
PATTON: Pride.
Seriously.
You have to go.
I know.
I was just catching up with Martha Roberts? (scoffs) I've been reading about you on crime blogs ever since you pushed that LSP trooper into Bayou Sauvage.
That story was blown way out of proportion.
PATTON: No, I remember that.
An officer nearly got eaten by a gator.
First of all, she was very rude to me.
Secondly, that gator was tiny.
No way it could have eaten her.
Can we please talk about Lindsey Kirk? I tell you what, why-- why don't we just set you up back here, okay? Have a seat.
And Forensic Agent Lund will sit down with you.
Go over everything you've got on Lindsey Kirk.
- Come on now.
Don't do that.
Do what? Patronize me, dismiss me.
This isn't my first rodeo.
No one's dismissing you, Martha.
Good.
Because we're close.
We can put the pieces together.
You and me.
Blow the case wide open.
Find your girl.
Catch a killer.
That sounds great.
Unfortunately, I can't stay.
But someone on my team will No.
No! Not someone on your team.
You, Dwayne.
I need it to be you.
I'm afraid that's not gonna happen, Martha.
I'll show myself out.
Anybody want to explain what that was? Hurricane Martha.
Category 5 on the crazy cat-lady scale.
I wasn't aware that you two were so close.
We're not.
Still Still nothing.
Look, you got to hit the road, man.
Leave the criminals and the crazies to us.
Come on.
GREGORIO: Christopher? LASALLE: Yeah? Sebastian just sent me the download on Lindsey.
Lines up with what the neighbor said.
Lindsey went from foster home to foster home.
Couple run-ins with the law.
All misdemeanors.
Dropped off the map for a while until she was 20.
Enlisted in the Navy.
Yeah, well, maybe she dropped off the map again.
I mean, look.
No clothes, no shoes, no toothbrush, I mean, even the picture frames is gone off the wall.
Maybe she took off with her mystery Romeo and went UA.
You know, love will make you do some crazy things.
Yeah, well, it says here Lindsey finished top of her seaman recruit class.
Got high marks on evals.
She had a career here.
Something just doesn't fit.
Yeah, that doesn't either.
Look at that.
Looks like it was dragged over.
(grunts) Now, based on those impact marks, looks like somebody was thrown into it.
A footprint.
Looks like a tactical boot.
Glass particulates.
A fight went down here.
And somebody moved this hutch over to cover it up.
Give me the BlueStar, please.
(nozzle spraying) Blood splatter.
Maybe Lindsey didn't drop off the map after all.
Which means, if she wasn't killed She was taken.
(over recording): Hey, this is Laurel.
Please leave me a message.
PRIDE: Laurel, you can leave the motion sickness patch at home.
Water's glassy, conditions are perfect.
Just drive down here, take your time, be safe, and I'll have the boat prepped and ready when you get here.
See you soon.
Love you.
All right.
(groaning) Time to learn things, Agent Pride.
(grunting softly) You sleep very peacefully, Dwayne.
Like a baby.
What?! Went straight through the night.
Of course that could have been the (imitates Taser buzzing) Anyway, I'm glad you're awake.
Drink up.
What is this, Martha? Swamp grass, sow thistle, and newt's blood.
High-octane gator fuel.
- Goes down rough, - No.
but it'll give you energy.
No, no, I'm talking about the No.
(sputters) (coughing) No.
I mean kidnapping me.
I wouldn't call it kidnapping.
(coughs) No? You attacked me with a Taser, I'm tied up.
I-- that doesn't look like the Gulf out there anymo We could nitpick the details all day long.
But the important thing is you're here.
We have work to do.
You need to think about this.
(panting) People are gonna be looking for me.
No one's looking for you, Dwayne.
You're on a father-daughter weekend.
And if you're thinking about Laurel, don't.
What did you do to my daughter? What did you do?! Whoa! Relax.
Didn't do anything.
Just texted her you were on a case and that the weekend was canceled.
She didn't seem too su You had no right! I can't believe she's in college! The last time I saw her, she was just a kid.
You had just busted that trafficking ring in LaPlace.
Parish president gave you a commendation.
I have a copy of that here somewhere.
Why do you have this stuff? Aw.
You're my mentor.
No, we-we don't know each other.
I know you inside and out, Dwayne.
You stand up for people who can't stand for themselves.
That's why you're here.
To bring these girls justice.
Look, I'm gonna give you a chance.
All right, you let me go right now, okay, and I won't bring you up on federal kidnapping charges.
I am not a damn kidnapper! That's Mr.
Lonesome's gig.
And the longer you stall, the longer that poor girl Lindsey has to suffer at his hands.
(phone beeping) Looks like you got a text.
At least someone's taking this seriously.
Texted Agent Lasalle for an update.
He's following up on Lindsey's last call before she disappeared.
Some kind of help line.
You can't do this, Martha.
Not alone-- that's why you're here.
We are gonna save Lindsey Kirk.
Patton dumped Lindsey's cell.
Eight calls to HelpLine NOLA in the past few days.
It's a support group that helps foster kids and runaways.
Figure the operators might know what's been going on in Lindsey's life before she was taken.
Yeah, which will help us get one step closer to finding out who's behind all this.
Yeah.
(phone chimes) That's Pride.
Wants us to give him an update after we're done here.
You've been updating him? Of course I have.
Look, it's killing Pride not being here with us.
Our smart money said he's on his way back as we speak.
Meh, not this time.
How long you been working with him? Long enough to know that he's changed since last year.
You want to bet? Yes.
- All right, Pride comes back early - Right.
the next time we watch your Yankees, you wear a Big Papi jersey.
Okay, okay.
Or when Pride doesn't come back, because he won't, you got to paint your face purple and gold for the next LSU game.
It's on like Donkey Kong.
MARTHA: Lindsey Kirk.
Brown hair, blue eyes, no family.
No one who gives a crap about her at all.
Just Mr.
Lonesome's type.
That's what makes these girls perfect targets.
No one no one cares.
No one will miss 'em.
Except you.
You're the only one who sees a pattern here.
I'm not delusional, Dwayne.
I see a pattern because there is a pattern.
Okay.
It's a replica.
The Truck Stop Chopper used one exactly like it to take out his victims.
Amazing what you can buy off eBay.
Yeah, to catch killers, you got to understand what's going on in their minds, you got to study their tools, step into their shoes.
So you got ten missing girls.
You believe they were all abducted and murdered by a serial killer, and yet not one shred of hard evidence.
You're looking at the evidence covering every inch of this wall.
It's just speculation.
High school photos, eye color-- coincidence, conjecture.
You're driving me nuts, dude! You think I would go to all the trouble of getting you out here if I didn't have the juice to back it up? Okay, Martha, you got my attention.
MAN: This is Taylor Price.
he's the one that spoke with Lindsey the night she disappeared.
And every other night.
She was a regular.
- Was something bothering her? - Well, sure-- adulthood.
Most of the young people that we deal with here are used to being on their own, untethered.
They have no real connection, and when times get tough, they pull up stakes and move on.
Right.
Well, unfortunately, we don't think she ran.
We think she was taken.
You don't seem surprised.
Honestly, I'm not.
Lindsey was freaked out recently.
She was almost sure she had a stalker.
Stalker? Yeah.
A couple of weeks back, she got the feeling like she was being watched.
I figured she was just being paranoid.
Living alone can do that to you.
But then it got weird.
Someone kept leaving gifts for her.
Old books, flowers.
Romantic stuff.
Did she call the cops? And say what? It's not against the law to give presents.
That's why Lindsey was calling us so often.
She needed somebody to listen.
Well, did she give you any details about who might be watching her, or The guy was like a ghost.
And by the end of the night, she had half-convinced herself that she made the whole thing up.
I guess she didn't make it up after all.
Police paid no attention to these disappearances, but I did.
I managed to run a cross-case evidence analysis at each apartment.
What do you see? Uh, Renaissance art books.
Huh? Uh, exotic flowers.
Sundials? MARTHA: These girls are all undereducated, broke.
How is it that all of 'em share an interest in classical art and ancient timepieces? You want to tell me things about those pills? The pills are nothing, not connected.
Stay on point here.
Okay.
It's unlikely that these girls have these same interests in common.
Someone had to give 'em these gifts.
Mr.
Lonesome plays secret admirer, showers 'em with gifts before he takes 'em.
- Follow the gifts, you find your killer.
- Oh, yes.
Now you understand.
Now you see.
Yes.
Okay.
So we need to reach out to my team.
See if Lindsey had any of these same items in her apartment-- pull forensics.
- Learn things, yes.
-Yes, give me my phone.
- Okay? - No, no, no.
I-I got this.
Martha, I-I want to help you, I do, but between being tased and and whatever you gave me to knock me out Valerian root.
I'm still feeling kind of fuzzy.
Give me a holler if your team texts.
Find anything on Lindsey's stalker? No, ran the whole apartment for trace.
No DNA other than Lindsey's, but I did find a strange residue on that boot print that you guys found.
Pyrethrum.
It's an organic insecticide used for crop dusting.
We find out where the stalker tracked it in from, we might be able to find his location.
Only problem is it's used on over 400 farms in Louisiana alone.
It's gonna take forever to narrow it down.
LASALLE: Pride sent me a text.
He got a tip from a law enforcement buddy.
"Check Lindsey's apartment for a book on Renaissance art, sundial, and exotic flowers.
" Pride's buddy's onto something.
LASALLE: Well, you mean Pride's onto something.
He must be working the case from Gulf Shores, which means New York here just earned herself a Red Sox jersey.
Un, no, not until I see him walk through that door I haven't.
Besides, this stuff doesn't get us any closer to finding Lindsey or the stalker.
That's not entirely true.
The Madagascar jasmine, that's that's promising.
Let's see, yeah.
Pyrethrum isn't just used on crops.
It's also used on exotic flowers.
Patton, can you search for for Southern Louisiana specialty nurseries, ones that deal in exotic flora? I'm on it.
Rare Earth Nursery on the West Bank.
But it went under last year.
That doesn't mean that the greenhouses still aren't functioning.
Stalker tracked in the pesticide.
There's a good chance that he's growing those flowers out there himself.
Well, there's only one way to find out.
LASALLE: Doesn't seem like there's been any activity in here in a while.
Not so sure about that.
Madagascar jasmine, just like we found at Lindsey's.
This type of flower requires a lot of attention.
I'm talking, like, daily care.
Whoever raised this was here recently.
GREGORIO: Guys, I'm in the nursery, come check this out.
What you got? See that? Marks from a door that's not there.
Oh, it's there, it's just been bricked over.
I mean, look around, look at these bricks.
They're older than I am.
But this wall Looks like it's just been laid.
Yeah.
Maybe something's back there.
(Lasalle grunting) I see something.
Call an ambulance.
(breathing heavily): Come on.
Come on.
(groans) Totally knew you'd try that, Dwayne.
Signal jammer.
Has to be off to send or receive messages.
All you had to do was wait for your yerba maté, but you took the bait.
(device beeps) It's true what they say.
Never meet your heroes.
They'll only disappoint.
One new message.
Oh.
Let's see what Agent Lasalle has to say.
(shuddering) You wanted a body?! I gave you a body! You will not doubt me again! WADE: Same height, eye color.
Even the same bone structure as Lindsey, but it's not her.
Who is she? Jane Doe, until someone comes to I.
D.
her.
I ran her DNA, fingerprints, even checked NamUs-- she's not in the system.
Means Lindsey's still out there.
Get cause of death? Judging by the veins, the cyanosis of the skin, it appears she died of asphyxiation.
So the sicko that put her in a brick box made it airtight? That's what it looks like, Any idea how long she's been dead? It's difficult to say.
The lack of oxygen in the room preserved her body, but seeing how rapidly her organs deteriorated, she could conceivably have been dead weeks, longer even.
And who knows how long she's been in there before that? The room had a bed, sink, toilet, water, even food.
This was premeditated, sadistic, executed with precision.
We're dealing with a serial killer here.
Yeah, Lindsey could be our next victim if we don't find her before the psycho traps her in a box.
Bet's off.
We need all hands on deck.
I'm calling Pride.
- Call him.
- Yeah, well, you're not gonna get him.
I've been trying his cell ever since we found the body.
Keeps going straight to voice mail.
Well, he's probably on the water with Laurel.
There's no service in the Gulf.
Well, that's what I thought, too, until I actually spoke to Laurel.
She's not with her father.
She said that Pride canceled on her last minute, told her he was working a case with us.
No, something's off.
My feelings exactly.
MARTHA: Don't be a wiggle worm, Dwayne.
Only make things worse.
(groaning) Why are you so sure that the body isn't Lindsey? Lindsey is his latest prize.
He's invested time and money.
Grown the flowers, built the sundial.
Built her a damn secret room.
Why kill her so soon, is that it? Mm-hmm.
Mr.
Lonesome is playing savior to these girls.
Needs to give her a chance to redeem herself in the proper way before he cuts bait.
Now, back to these stitches.
Wait.
Wait.
Hey, Dwayne.
You have faced death how many times? I can't believe you're scared of a little needle.
No, listen, listen.
I think I know who the victim in the photo is.
She's right there on your wall.
Second from the top, on the left.
Pull the crime scene photo up on my phone.
See if the sequins on the dress match the red dress on the wall.
MARTHA: Holy moly.
Oh, my God.
That's Shelley Wright.
Runaway from Baton Rouge.
Went missing nine months ago.
Oh.
(winces) I knew you were here for a reason.
Come off it, Martha.
I know walls like this firsthand.
You know every inch of every photo on it, and if you weren't so focused on sewing me up, you would've seen it, too.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Point is, we got a good thing going here.
- No, the point is you've got me caged like one of Mr.
Lonesome's victims and you have me playing your little game.
There is no game.
This is life and death, Dwayne.
I thought you would understand.
Every case you have ever worked on, you always see something that no one else sees.
Yeah, you know what I see right now? All around this cabin? Gifts from the kidnapper to the girls.
That's what you call 'em, right? Right.
Those are research.
You know every detail of Mr.
Lonesome's M.
O.
Things no one else could know but the killer.
I'm methodical.
You're obsessed, which makes sense, considering the meds you're on.
Olanzapine is an antipsychotic.
Shows what you know.
- I have been off the pills for weeks.
- Exactly, Martha, which makes you unstable and dangerous to yourself, to others.
No! You don't understand.
The medicine makes me fuzzy, and I was getting really close to a breakthrough.
I needed a clear head.
You call this thinking clearly? You kidnapped me just like your killer.
I'm starting to wonder what makes you different from him, if anything at all.
(crying): You think I'm Mr.
Lonesome? Well, let me tell you something! If I was, you'd be in deep trouble, more than you know! (screams) (crying): I did this all for nothing! (shouts) You ruined everything, everything! PATTON: Can't get a trace on Pride's phone.
Something is blocking it.
But I ran his car GPS.
I found it parked near the boat he rented in Gulf Shores.
I'm pulling traffic cams now from when he arrived yesterday.
Can you blow that up? That's Hurricane Martha.
Crazy lady you said was at the squad room yesterday? Crazy lady that was mucho obsessed with Pride.
Yeah, and psycho obsessed with Lindsey's disappearance.
She got awfully pissy when he wouldn't listen to her.
So, what, y'all think she kidnapped Pride because he hurt her feelings? That seems a little extreme.
PATTON: Yeah, for a sane person, but according to our records, she's anything but.
Well, she suffers from OCD, severe bipolar depressive disorder, and a history of violence.
PATTON: Charges for harassment, aggravated assault, stalking.
- This lady's seriously dangerous.
- Okay, all right.
Did you, did you ping his last text location? I mean, I know that we can't track his phone, but that could get us close.
PATTON: I have my systems scanning.
Let me see if we got a hit.
Bingo.
Came from a cell tower deep in the sticks near Pearl River.
Nothing out there but swamp and a handful of cabins.
Fewer doors we have to kick in to find Pride.
Let's ride.
Go learn something.
MARTHA: All I've ever done is try to follow your path, Dwayne.
Be smart.
Study the details.
Look out for the little guy.
And this is my reward.
You call me a killer.
You're not thinking straight.
Can't afford to think straight with nine girls dead and one still out there.
PRIDE: Collecting their jewelry, their hair, personal belongings.
How does that help you find them? It doesn't.
Obviously.
But no one listens to me.
No one cares.
It's all I could do to keep their memories alive.
Why? Why risk everything by grabbing me? Why does it matter to you so much? 'Cause I know what it's like to be forgotten, just like them.
(sniffles) They deserve better than this.
I agree, Martha.
They really do.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Martha, let me help you.
Don't you move.
Come on, Martha.
You can trust me.
(door breaks) NCIS, drop the weapon! No, no, wait.
What are you doing, Pride? I'm trying to save Lindsey, and I think Martha can help.
Murder weapons, locks of hair, crazy wall.
The girl is certifiable.
BTK, Son of Sam, Green River Killer, all had similar levels of obsession.
Well, it still doesn't explain why she took me.
Well, maybe she's like the Zodiac, wanted to brag.
I don't know.
I leaned on her pretty hard in there.
She said she'd rather die than give up on those girls.
That's not sadism.
That's empathy.
Uh, woman tased you, beat you, tied you up and stuck you with a needle.
I'm not seeing a lot of love for humanity here.
I know she's disturbed, just not in the way you're saying.
King, she tried to split you in two with a hatchet.
Pretty sure she wasn't gonna.
Pretty sure, huh? Starting to think that head wound is a little worse than we thought.
- All right, guys, sorry.
We-we can debate this all day, but we don't have time.
I just ran some calculations, and if Lindsey has been sealed in a room that's roughly the same dimensions as Shelley's, she doesn't have long to live.
She could be dead by nightfall.
Yeah, and we still don't have any leads.
We don't, but Martha does.
PRIDE: Every minute that goes by is a minute less for Lindsey.
That's what I've been telling you.
My team is convinced you're responsible for her abduction.
Yeah, I can see it on their faces.
What do you think, Dwayne? You nearly killed me trying to get my attention, and it worked.
Why are you so fixated on these missing girls? You wouldn't understand.
Martha, you've studied me.
You know the things I've done to get justice.
Why don't you try me? First time I was committed, I was 12.
My mom was done trying to deal with me.
She put me in a state hospital.
They locked me in an isolation room.
Complete sensory deprivation.
You have any idea what that does to a person? I can't imagine.
I was a little girl.
I-I needed comforting.
I needed reassurance, but they they threw me away.
You know, out of sight, out of mind.
Like Lindsey and the others.
MARTHA: Misfits, runaways.
No one cared they were hurting.
No one noticed they were gone.
But you did.
They deserve justice just like anyone else.
I am really sorry that I hurt you, Dwayne, but I am not sorry I got your attention.
We're gonna get Lindsey back.
And you're gonna help.
Mr.
Lonesome has a type.
We know that much.
What we don't know is how or where he finds his victims.
Well, the one link we have is Shelley Wright, last girl taken before Lindsey.
Sealed in a secret room in an abandoned greenhouse.
LASALLE: We find any overlap between Shelley and Lindsey, we narrow in on our killer.
(Martha laughs) It's like a master class in sleuthing.
Is it really necessary she's here? What exactly do you have against me, New York? For starters, that you creepily know my nickname.
Plus, you beat the crap out of our boss.
Okay, so what do we know about Shelley? SEBASTIAN: Well, according to Martha's Intel, she ran away from home when she was 16.
Ended up in Baton Rouge.
Waitress by day, community college student by night.
And she was abducted on the night of January 3, 2017 from her apartment, gone without a trace.
MARTHA: That's Mr.
Lonesome.
He slips in and out without being seen.
Knows everything about these girls, like he's supernatural.
No.
He's not supernatural, just a good listener.
According to Shelley's phone records, she made several calls in the hours leading up to her disappearance, all to HelpLine Baton Rouge.
LASALLE: Lindsey's last call the night she was abducted was to HelpLine NOLA.
More than just those two.
I scanned the call logs of the other missing girls on Martha's board.
HelpLine.
Lafayette, Shreveport, Alexandria.
Think we know where Mr.
Lonesome is finding his victims.
Got to be someone with access to their records.
Checking anyone who has worked multiple call centers.
I see you.
GREGORIO: Brian Davis, the supervisor we spoke to at HelpLine NOLA.
Right, and the only one who worked at all the call centers in question.
I got his address.
We need to grab him now.
I'm coming with you.
Not a chance in hell.
Good idea.
I'll stay back, man the phones.
Don't touch anything.
Right, okay.
Good luck.
(exhales) This place is like a fortress.
Yeah, it's probably where the creep is keeping Lindsey.
Yeah.
You two search the grounds, take the back, we got the front.
You come across Davis, hold your fire.
If Lindsey's not here, he's the only one who knows where she is.
- Go.
- Got it.
(hinges squeak) (piano playing in distance) (whispers): You hear that? (piano continues playing in distance) (piano playing nearby) (quietly): Here we go.
I found him.
Hands up.
I was just getting to the best part.
(door closes) Davis give up where he's keeping Lindsey? No, but he did threaten to press charges against us for unlawful entry.
Lasalle's giving Davis another go, but it doesn't look good.
You get anything solid to connect him to any of the victims? Other than the fact that he worked at every call center, no.
Man's house was covered in evidence.
Sundials, exotic flowers, old art.
All circumstantial.
Not enough to force a confession yet.
Yeah, and every minute that goes by could be Lindsey's last.
We don't get something to turn the screws on him, he's got no reason to talk.
No rational reason.
Time for the irrational.
Robyn Marcus.
You remember her? No one forgets their first.
The thrill of the hunt.
Satisfaction that comes from conquest.
Expected her to be grateful, didn't you? But Robyn refused.
Just like Sarah.
Leyla.
Ashley.
What is this? Some kind of interrogation technique? Good cop, crazy cop? I'm not a cop.
PRIDE: She's a consultant.
Oh.
Trying to get to the truth here.
Well, the truth is I was a voice on the phone to these girls.
MARTHA: And what about all the gifts? The books, sundials, exotic flowers.
Gestures of kindness in a cruel world.
So what? No.
An attempt to draw them in.
But they saw right through you, didn't they? They could tell right away that you weren't worthy.
You failed them.
I didn't fail anyone.
I Well, of course you didn't, Davis.
I-I know, I know that.
Look, I am sorry, okay? I get emotional.
I have spent my life working this help line, and trying to reach out to people Give me a freaking break.
These girls come from nothing.
Okay? They're alone, and I offered them a way out.
Oh, by abducting and murdering them? No.
By being there for them.
I get it.
You were like a safe harbor in a storm.
Precisely.
Think I'm gonna be sick.
Must be frustrating when they won't accept what's good for 'em.
It's a disappointment, for sure.
Still, you-you carry on.
No.
Dwayne.
He is not a martyr, these girls are.
You can't forget the girls.
Don't forget them, you can't forget them.
Don't you see that all of us want what's best for those girls? And if you can't control yourself, then you need to step outside.
Do you understand, Martha? Yes.
Apologies.
Martha is very passionate.
And she's disappointed about Lindsey.
People disappoint.
Lindsey disappoint? Well, you can't save 'em all.
You have no idea how hard I tried.
Doesn't matter anymore.
I'm here and she's gone.
Maybe not.
(paper crinkles) Look at her.
Shelley Wright, remember her? We found her, by the way.
How much time did you have with Shelley before she disappointed you? Few weeks? Months, maybe? But he only had a couple of days with Lindsey.
That's not enough time.
I don't think he really had a fair shot.
Are you saying that you would let me see her again? Sure.
Sure, why not? Why not? And this time it'll be different, because we'll be with you, and you can show her how you change.
She'll see that people can change.
And all you really want to do is help her.
You just have to show us where she is.
(siren wailing) Split up, split up, go.
GREGORIO: Over here! Freshly laid.
Airtight.
This is the spot.
(grunting) Lindsey? Lindsey? She's alive.
Okay.
Gonna be all right.
I got you.
- Okay? - Come on, I got you.
(grunts) You got-- go.
(grunting) Got it? (siren wailing) You said I could see her.
You've seen her.
Get him out of here.
(siren wailing) Is she? Alive.
At Ochsner Medical getting treatment.
She's gonna be okay.
Martha? Martha, you hear me? We did it.
It's over.
Thanks to you.
I'm sorry about what went down in interrogation.
I just saw A way in.
And you took it.
No apology necessary.
I-I should be thanking you, Dwayne.
You got him to talk, you saved Lindsey.
Well, it wouldn't have happened without your Intel.
Intel isn't much good if no one's listening.
I didn't have much choice, did I? I take it an apology won't suffice? It's a start, but it's gonna take a little more than that.
You kidnapped a federal agent.
Sounds really bad when you put it that way.
Yeah, well You need help.
I'm not going to a nut house.
No, you're not.
But you are gonna get treatment.
No white rooms, no sensory deprivation.
Just caring psychologists and the right meds.
- Dwayne, I - No, listen, I I trusted you with this case; time for you to trust me.
Can I keep my police scanner? I joke.
Thank you for listening.
Not many people have done that for me.
You deserve a chance, too, Martha.
And, hey, next time you get a hot lead try the phone first.
LASALLE: Since Pride was technically working the case all along, I think this means, uh, I won our little wager.
Um, he was being forced to work the case.
Literally had a gun to his head, or at least an ax.
Listen, forget the bet, Lasalle.
Today we all lost.
How's that? The one time we get Pride to put his badge down for some R&R, he gets kidnapped? - Really? - It's unlikely we're gonna get him to leave the squad room any time soon.
Any reason you two are staring? Uh, no.
Just trying to figure out what's going on here.
I'm going back down to Gulf Shores.
Laurel's already on her way.
- Oh, father-daughter trip, it's - Still on.
Can't let work stop you from living.
Or getting kidnapped.
Yeah, well, that that was a wake-up call.
That kind of obsession, well, hit a little bit close to home.
So (drawer opens) (chuckles) Try not to burn down the place while I'm away.
