RESIDENT PLAYBOOK
[yawns]
EPISODE 6
What's this?
The on-call schedule for July is out?
Mm-hm. Take a look at it.
[sighs] Time really flies, huh?
KU DO-WON
KU DO-WON, OH YI-YOUNG
[sighs]
Kim Sa-bi, there's something
you don't know?
The "Law of Total Patients,"
never heard of it?
The number of patients
we'll see in our life is fixed.
-What?
-Say someone sees too many patients
during residency, uses their quota,
then starts a practice later.
-What'll happen?
-Will it go under? No more patients.
-Exactly.
-On-call shifts are a part of this how?
Let's say I'm on call with Dr. Myeong,
and the patients are non-stop
all night long.
I'm using up my quota at breakneck speed.
And I'll still need lots for my practice.
In July, I'm with her twice.
That's ridiculous. You're making excuses
because you don't like working with her.
That's not important here.
Please, couldn't you swap just one with me
so my private practice will have clients?
I've checked, there aren't any times this
month you spend on-call time with her.
-That's why it's two times in July.
-I can't believe you checked on that.
Hey, Sa-bi.
Can I swap your day here, for my day here?
Just this once, I swear.
I know why you're bringing that up.
You just want to be with Dr. Ku.
He makes being on-call easier.
He takes all the calls,
and even lets you nap on the clock.
-That's not why I want to switch with you.
-Then tell me.
Huh?
Uh
'Cause it's Friday.
Earth Arcade episodes are out.
Stream them later.
Why should I swap with you?
[sighs]
What's this? Sa-bi,
there's another mistake here.
I'm the only one assigned nine times.
Oh Yi-young, Kim Sa-bi, eight times,
Um Jae-il, seven times.
Oh, that? I did it that way
because you missed work.
And Jae-il? He covered your shift.
-Ah, that's right.
-[Sa-bi] You've to pay him back.
Hey, Jae-il,
could I return the favor in August?
You can't!
Jae-il, I was really sick that day,
I promise you.1
I was here, but I couldn't see a doctor
since I was busy the whole day.
And I had a terrible fever,
and I could barely stand on my own.
I eventually passed out
and was shivering in a jacket.
-I don't mind
-Quit it!
-Ow!
-Pay him back in July.
You owe a call shift,
you pay it the next month.
-That's our cardinal rule.
-We have cardinal rules?
Hang on, what cardinal rule?
You don't care, right? Hmm?
This time, for me?
I'll make sure to do a swap in August.
-Mm-hmm.
-No!
-You won't pay him back at all, then.
-What do you care?
It happened to me all the time
as an intern.
-I would never do such a thing!
-Then if you mean to pay him, do it.
Changing it throws the schedule
out of balance, it won't be fair.
Come on, stop with the rules.
It's on-call shifts we're talking about!
This schedule is meant
to be comprehensive of all factors.
Who put you in charge? This is so trivial.
-Why are you acting so controlling?
-No, I'm not doing anything.
I want to follow the rules
and you're acting snotty!
-I'm acting snotty?
-Yes.
You're impossible!
You're snotty, what am I supposed to do?
I act snotty 'cause you're a stickler!
-Scheduling was my job, okay?
-You make me so angry sometimes!
-I feel the same way.
-I feel the same way.
-Then let's stop talking.
-Fine!
No swapping.
Lately, those two have been
nonstop arguing. Heat, maybe?
Don't be ridiculous,
the AC is working fine.
Could it be from overwork,
and sleepless nights?
Nuh-uh.
-They're incompatible.
-Ah.
But they'll figure it out.
-It impacts us too.
-Doesn't impact me.
-[scoffs]
-Let them work it out, it's not our issue.
[cell phone ringing]
Yes, nurse?
Oh, I'll be right there. Yes, I'm free.
Bye. Hey, I gotta go.
-These past few weeks
-See ya.
See ya.
-[door closes]
-[engine starts]
-[ringing]
-[gasps] Jeez.
-Hello.
-[Joo-young] Are you running late?
It's almost time
for our dinner reservation.
Yeah, I know.
Do-won isn't even there anyway.
Yes, he is.
Wait, he's there?
But his car's still here.
He took the subway.
He wanted to avoid Friday traffic.
Why didn't you tell me?
RESIDENT PLAYBOOK
[typing]
Professor Jo Joon-mo isn't here yet?
No.
-Were you on call last night?
-Mm-hmm.
Did you speak to Miss Park Jeong-ju
when you did your post-op rounds?
Did she say anything?
What? The one who had a hysterectomy due
to fibroids and got her ovaries taken out.
Park Jeong-ju, 54, she had myomas and had
a TLH with BSO, correct? This patient?
Yeah. The professor asked
you go over everything
that happened during her surgery again.
No, that was something
you were meant to do.
No, it wasn't. That was meant for you.
It wasn't. It was for you.
It's right here.
Arrival in ward, 6:30 p.m., look.
Huh?
She arrived at the ward at 6:30 p.m.,
the day shift. You're responsible for her.
-You remember?
-How does that work?
Half past six isn't my responsibility,
that's for on-call.
If you want to be precise,
the on-call time starts at 6:31.
Seriously? If you want to be accurate,
the day shift ends at 6:29.
I was with another patient
at the time. I couldn't do it.
And I was down in the ICU
transferring a patient!
-I thought you'd done it.
-And I thought you were going to!
[groans] The professor's going to be here
any second to do his rounds!
Hey, R1s!
I told you to explain to Miss Park
everything that happened during surgery.
So why did she just ask me
whether her ovaries were removed or not?
Hey!
Who's attending her?
Uh, I am.
Sorry, it won't happen again.
-I was going to do it, and then
-You got busy, is that it?
You're the only busy person.
I guess nobody here is as busy as you are.
Who do you think you are?
I really am sorry.
[tsks]
Gosh, I didn't realize you were here,
I'm sorry. Hi.
How come you're in a wheelchair, miss?
Did you fall?
Her feet were swollen this morning
and wouldn't fit into her shoes.
I thought walking barefoot would hurt her.
Just a minute.
-Careful.
-[woman] Oh, stop making such a fuss.
-Just be careful now.
-We're so sorry.
We'll return it immediately.
-Okay.
-[man] There you go, hon.
The professor asked to give you a rundown
of the details from your last visit.
She's concerned you may not have
absorbed it all yet.
Oh, gosh. It was scary stuff.
You've had multiple dilations
and curettages
and also have placenta previa,
so we're anticipating heavy bleeding
during the surgical procedure.
If the bleeding continues
after we remove the placenta,
we will insert
a uterine balloon tamponade.
So
Like for nosebleeds, we put a tissue
in our nose to stop the flow?
Similar to that, we'll use the balloon
to compress the area of internal bleeding.
If the bleeding doesn't stop,
we'll control it
by inserting a catheter
into a vein in your thigh,
and use embolic material to block
the branches of the uterine artery.
If you still continue bleeding internally,
we'll have to do a hysterectomy.
Don't worry, it won't happen.
If we end up performing
an embolization or hysterectomy,
we'll get your husband during the surgery,
he'll have to sign another consent form.
-All right.
-[breath trembles]
Oh, Doctor, uh, my Bo.
Please keep my sweet little Bo safe.
Ah, yes, we're monitoring the baby.
It's healthy.
Don't worry about that.
Oh, no, I was saying Bo-mi, my wife here.
-What?
-[both chuckle]
Ah
I see. I'll leave you to it.
Thank you.
CAUTION: FALL & SLIP HAZARD
Hey, don't worry.
It won't happen like that, okay?
[whirring]
Seems so sweet, right?
Yeah, nice and sweet.
Yeah, and so warm too.
And sweet, of course.
-And just so very warm.
-It's because of the hot water.
Mm! It just fills the air
with the scent of love, you know?
Really? I thought it was fruit.
I'm talking about Cha Bo-mi's husband.
He was the one who's sweet and warm.
Ah.
He's the one who gifted us
the tea as a present,
so his little Bo would be attended to.
[sighs dreamily]
I've been working in the Obstetrics ward
for seven years now,
and I've never once come across
a man so warmhearted.
[sighs] It's sad good men
are hard to come by.
Few and far between.
They're hard to come by for sure.
Where are they? Where on Earth are they?
I have one.
Do-won has to go into surgery.
He says he's sorry.
Mm. There's no need.
Egg retrieval isn't that big a deal.
It's our fifth time, I'm not nervous.
-Should I call your sister?
-Don't bother.
I wanna keep this quiet
and only surround myself
with positive energy. Don't ruin this.
She looks like she's around seven months.
I would say so.
She must be having a tough time.
At that point, your whole body feels sore.
Your back, ribs, feet, your abdomen.
It must be tough going through all that.
-How do you know?
-I've been doing my research.
[chuckles]
-And she's here to give birth.
-You think? Wow, just look at her.
Once the kid is born, everyone says,
"The pregnancy was better."
"The real hell lies
in raising your child."
They say you age a year
each day the kid's here.
[gasps] Oh, no, I don't wanna age.
Don't worry, you won't.
We can book it and go home.
They're not watching.
Just stop.
I want to do it.
I'm going through with this.
But don't feel bad over this, all right?
Just so you know,
I'm not only doing it for you,
or because your mother wants a grandchild.
It's my choice.
I'm doing this because I want to.
And one day, in the near future,
I'll be a mother and you a father.
I don't want you to be in pain
like that woman over there.
Don't worry, okay?
All this will be worth it.
Any pain is just temporary.
[sighs] This will be the last time
I try my luck.
The eggs they fertilize
Whatever amount they can,
is the amount we'll have.
I won't try again after that. Promise.
Don't worry, my husband.
I'm not the one that has to do anything,
I'm worried for you.
Hey, I said I was okay.
The injection spot didn't hurt much,
I'm good.
Plus, the egg retrieval is done while I'm
asleep. It's all over before I know it.
[clicks tongue, inhales sharply]
All right, that's us. Let's go.
Okay.
Miss Oh Joo-young? Right this way please.
[hurried typing]
It's 3:40. There's only 20 minutes left.
Working down the list now.
You're working your way up, right?
Yeah, it's just, I don't think
I can hold out a whole lot longer.
What, you've only done four patients
in the time I did nine?
You need to work faster!
We still have six to go, hurry up!
I think this is just as fast as I can go.
I know, I'm sorry.
If this isn't done by 4:00 and they delay
chemo, an actual war will start.
-You get that, right?
-Yeah, I'm aware.
If a war does break out,
we'll be the first ones killed.
The professor will blow us apart
with just his words.
Just a minute, BSA here is 8.5,
so 1.5 times 135 is
-[Jae-il] 202.5.
-Whoa, are you a genius?
When I was Um Jay,
I was known for math skills.
-My talent was racing calculators.
-[cracks]
Keep your hands on the keyboard!
Our hands don't get a break
when they're gonna break our necks
for causing delays.
-I'm sorry.
-[Jae-hui] Hello, everyone.
[both] Hello, Professor.
Looks like I have
a meeting this afternoon,
so I might do my post-op rounds now
for the patients who had surgery today.
-[both chuckle nervously] Oh, sure.
-Ah, no, I can't.
What kind of inconsiderate doctor would
push his rounds to the middle of the day?
-In the Gynecology ward, no less.
-[exhales]
-"Push," get it?
-[all laugh]
Sorry, bad joke. I'll leave you to it.
-As you were.
-[both] Thanks, Professor.
Come on, we gotta hurry.
[typing]
Okay, we're okay for now.
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
[snoring]
-[sniffs]
-[sighs, clicks tongue]
YEOM
ATTENDING DOCTOR: KIM SA-BI
-Hello!
-Ah, yes, hello.
-[chuckles]
-[operatic gospel music playing]
I've heard this before. You like it a lot.
Yes. I really love hymns.
This one's a favorite.
Ah, you're Catholic, then, is that right?
And how about you?
Do you practice religion?
I do. I like doing shamanism.
[chuckles] I was into the Great Orb Fairy
for a while, but now,
the Gangnam Lord is my go-to for fortunes.
-He's so powerful.
-[chuckles]
CAUTION: FALL & SLIP HAZARD
So how are you feeling today?
Are you experiencing any discomfort?
Everything's good.
But you're busy these days,
so you don't have to on me each time.
Of course I'll say hello to you. You were
my first ever Gynecology patient.
Because of you, I didn't run away.
That's true.
So, you planned to run away,
but then you thought I croaked?
That's not true.
I didn't think that at all.
I hurried back here
because I was so worried about you.
I was such a baby back then.
Guess you've gotten used
to some of the work after all.
-You look healthier.
-I wish that was the case.
Yes, I've gotten better at work
and they keep piling it on.
[sighs] But that I can handle.
It's people that keep
stressing me out lately.
Who is? Patients are?
Your professors?
Neither. Coworkers.
I have the absolute worst luck
with them. [sighs]
One person's a doofus,
one person is a total pain,
and one person is pretty much an android
with no flexibility or any empathy.
It's like I'm talking to an AI robot.
It's the weirdest thing.
Not only that, she's so nitpicky
over the tiniest little details.
Being like, "I already know that."
"The textbook said so."
[door opens]
She thinks she's right
and knows everything!
[sighs] She just drives me
straight up the wall.
But here we are.
We're just not alike at all.
Oh, the professor made
his rounds in here already.
Oh, but this isn't for rounds.
The professor asked me to go over
the CT scan results with you again.
The latest scan shows nothing abnormal,
and the markers are continuing to decline,
which means the chemo treatment
should go smoothly this time.
[Mi-so] Great.
I'll let you rest.
[door opens, closes]
[groans]
[sighs] I'm so screwed.
Here.
Mm.
[sighs softly]
I don't like pig's feet.
Sa-bi wanted to get some,
so that's what we ordered. Just eat it.
Didn't you say you already had plans?
I'm grabbing a bite with you.
-I'll leave afterwards.
-Mm-hmm.
For the record,
you washed your hands, right?
Uh, I washed both of my hands.
Pow, pow, like for a surgery.
But my hair's a different story.
Hmm.
You spent the night here?
You weren't on call, right?
[inhales] You wouldn't believe
why I stayed here.
Over the last few nights, I did something
like voluntary on-call duty
Oh, right. Who's doing the schedule next?
-I am.
-Listen, Yi-young.
Please give me the third weekend
of this month off. Don't schedule me.
I was going to ask too. My dad's
having his birthday the third week.
I'll think about it.
Hold on. You never think,
why would you start now?
No need to think it over.
Sa-bi, It's your father's birthday?
I told her about my conflict first.
-It's up to the one scheduling to pick.
-[scoffs]
Guys, stop fighting over the schedule
every time.
Yi-young, if you wanna make it fair,
choose the best fit with the senior staff.
Whoever's working
the same shift that weekend.
Go on.
Professor Woo Sang-ho in Orthopedics?
I overheard that
he schedules exactly like that,
and strangely, whenever he does
the monthly schedule,
the rate of emergencies goes down.
-[gasps] Let's do that.
-I can't.
As a Christian.
[scoffs] What does your religion
have to do with this?
You brought the compatibility thing
into it.
I'm just having some fun.
On-call shifts are more
than trying to have fun.
Seriously, you need to lighten up.
What's the harm in having fun with this?
It's not like doing this will make on-call
duties any fun magically, so why try?
Whoa. You're totally impossible.
I feel the same way,
I find you impossible.
[scoffs]
-[cell phone ringing]
-[clears throat]
[clears throat] Yes, nurse?
No, don't say sorry.
Yeah, the timing's good.
See you later.
I was thinking I'd really rather
be somewhere else now.
-Sure, bye.
-[both] Where are you going?
[cell phone ringing]
KU DO-WON
You two figure it out. Gotta go.
-Hey, where are you going?
-Where are you going?
ULTRASOUND ROOM
[Jae-il] Hello.
Oh, hello.
You remembered to call. Thank you.
[chuckles]
Hope you're not here this late
because of that?
Oh, no, of course not.
I won't get many chances to go home
this week. There's too much info to enter.
Ah. Seems like it's pretty hard.
Don't spend your energy
feeling sorry for me.
Are you doing all right?
Seems to me you're pretty tired.
It's all right.
I'll sleep once I'm done here.
So, do you still want me to call you every
time there's an emergency ultrasound?
-You sure you want to keep siting in?
-Yes, just for a couple more weeks.
-If that's okay with you?
-Of course.
This is super easy for me.
Thanks so much, I mean it.
Around this time of year,
R1s always get a bit anxious
because they want to do their best
and prove their worth.
That's not what I want.
I can't try to aim for that just yet.
All I want for now
is to keep from drowning.
If I could accomplish anything,
it's survival,
and to hold my own, you know?
[chuckles]
[cell phone ringing]
Hello?
Oh, Dr. Ki will be here soon.
You can send the patient over.
Sure, bye.
What's the patient here about, anyway?
I'm sure it's nothing too serious.
Sorry?
Don't you know Miss Moon Yeong-shin?
She's quite a famous woman down here.
She's probably had the most ultrasounds
of any patient in the history
of our Obstetrics department.
She comes in here at least once a week,
and the past few months,
it's sometimes been twice a week.
I think you're being
a little too anxious. That's all.
The staff here is starting
to find you annoying.
Yeah, I know that already.
Do you think I missed all that?
I don't want to be like this,
I just worry that something will go wrong.
[sighs] She's not as active
as she was early on yesterday.
Plus now, my belly hurts more
than it did, like a cramping feeling.
[Jae-il sighs]
-Nothing out of the ordinary.
-The placenta looks well-attached.
[Eun-mi] The placenta looks well-attached.
Is the baby not very active?
She's not. It seems like
she's been still today, unlike yesterday.
And I'm feeling some pain down below.
Hmm.
Everything looks normal.
Are you sure she'll be okay, though?
Yes, her heart is beating fine.
There's nothing to worry about.
You're coming in for a checkup
in three days anyway.
We'll examine you again.
Until then, there's no need to come back.
I did a thorough exam on you.
-Thank you so much.
-[Eun-mi] Of course.
[elevator chimes]
Did you wait long?
I had to finish a couple things.
Not at all, I was finishing
a couple things too.
-Your timing was great.
-Mm-hmm.
Thanks for the ride. Seung-won makes
a fuss when we don't go home together.
Ah, we're having baeksuk for dinner.
Not sure why, summer isn't for a while.
Oh, maybe he was thinking about
our health?
No, it wasn't about us.
Joo-young had her egg-retrieval done
earlier today.
Wait, that was today?
So, Joo-young was at the hospital
and didn't tell me about it?
[GPS] Please input your destination.
Your brother is so sweet,
wanting us to go together.
I'm fine taking the subway.
Sorry he's making you drive me
-[chiming]
-I feel bad 'cause you're busy.
I guess it's annoying?
Oh, man, for sure.
-[GPS] Currently recalculating route.
-No, wait.
[spluttering] Wait, I didn't
That's not Dr. Oh, no.
I mean, Yi-young Sorry
Yi-young, I'm not saying you're annoying,
it's just that I have to watch surgery
videos and I want to see Joo-young, but
I'm still gonna need
to drive back later for work.
That's all I was trying to say,
but now you're angry again, aren't you?
Ku Do-won the doctor seems
so measured and thoughtful
when he's working at the hospital.
That man is very considerate.
Ku Do-won the guy
seems like a really big jerk.
Purposely hurtful,
dismissive
And it's only to me.
I'm really sorry. That's not what
I was trying to say at all, so just
Don't talk to me. I want to take a nap.
Hate to annoy you.
Please just drive.
As you wish, ma'am, yes.
Want to listen to music?
Would you like that?
No, I wouldn't. I told you I want to rest.
Rest, huh? You're still responding.
DR. MYEONG
Why's she calling me at this hour?
Oh, I know why. To order you around.
Yes, Doctor?
Dr. Ku, hey there. Is it okay to talk now?
Yeah, did something happen over there?
Oh, no, I'm calling about
something unrelated.
Regarding the paper we did.
Sorry?
The paper we submitted
last month, remember?
Ah, yeah.
Just before submitting it,
I read it once more and thought
there was such a huge difference
in the work we did.
I don't know if we can both
be first authors.
Many of your parts fell short, and I had
to rewrite them practically from scratch.
Sorry?
As a result,
I put you down as the second author
to make things fair.
-I don't think I told you that, did I?
-[scoffs]
Gosh, what's wrong with me?
I should've told you
before submitting the paper.
I guess I got distracted.
So sorry.
Hello?
Are you still there? Hello?
Uh, yes.
Anyway, I know you did your best
on the paper, but still
Yeah, Doctor, I'm driving right now, so
Oh, I see.
-Then how about
-I'll have to call you later.
[disconnects call]
[scoffs]
[sighs]
Do-won, do you want any soju?
We have beer if you want that instead.
Do-won, are you awake?
-[inhaling]
-[cigarette crackling]
PROPER RECYCLING REQUIRED
[Nam-kyung] Mm
I'll do the veggie six-inch sandwich.
Uh, wheat bread, American cheese,
all the greens,
but no peppers or onions on it.
Oh, for the sauce, olive oil, add pepper.
Thank you so much.
Six-inch steak and cheese
on white bread, shredded cheese,
and with extra meat if you would, thanks.
I'll have all the salad, and for
the sauce, ranch and sweet onion.
Heavy sauce, please too.
Even their taste is totally opposite.
I'll get the, uh, sandwich of the month.
All the salad, and whatever sauce
and bread you think would be the best.
Oh, just a small one.
I'll have what he's having.
Oh, and a footlong for me, please. Thanks.
HONG GI-DONG
DON'T CALL ME THIS TIME
9:30 tonight at Café Yoon.
If you don't come, it's really over.
Oh, my God, I'm starving.
We're going to work, not leaving, right?
You look terrible, jeez.
Well, you're one to talk, huh?
How long have you worn
the same clothes now?
I'm at three days. [sniffs]
Mm, it's time I went home.
Good luck with that.
Did you do the study materials?
No. When is that due?
-Tomorrow.
-Ugh, are you serious? Ah, God!
Oh, wait. Did you send Professor Jung-min
the research for your reports already?
[Yi-young] Reports?
No. I totally forgot.
Mine's been turned in already.
'Cause tonight,
I'm leaving no matter what.
You're not able to. Professor Jo Joon-mo's
paper needs your collated data.
[sighs] I forgot. You're right.
Apart from that, we're really busy today.
That why I made sure to double check.
We're inducing labor on two multiparas
and two primiparas,
plus two simultaneous C-sections
that will also be happening.
But then for Gynecology,
we're up to 15 surgeries, already.
Five are for debulking, so get ready.
You guys had better eat up.
Because this, could easily be
the most food we get to eat today.
Mm!
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
[typing]
Congratulations, Dr. Myeong.
And you too, Dr. Ku.
You guys did a great job.
Sorry, what is this for?
Your names were put out
as seminar presenters, right?
Were you going to surprise the guy?
Why haven't you told him?
Oh, what's wrong with me these days?
I completely forgot!
We've been selected
to discuss the article.
I found out about it from an email today.
And it's all thanks
to your help, Professor.
-Thank you so much.
-Liar.
Given that you're second in the lineup,
you might have a chance at an award too.
The primary presenter is you?
As the first author, right?
Yes, I'll work hard
to prepare a good speech.
But I know how hard you worked too.
If you hadn't gotten so busy
before the paper was done,
you two would've been listed
as joint first authors.
You must be disappointed.
Well, I'm [scoffs]
sure I'll get other chances soon.
[Gi-sun] Ah, I'm glad I was
the corresponding author.
It didn't seem like Jung-min
had gotten anywhere.
I need your help, quick,
Cha Bo-mi is bleeding here!
-[breath trembling, whimpering]
-Please lie down.
[groaning]
We've got acute bleeding,
likely from the placenta previa.
We'll head into surgery
since labor has started.
And our daughter? Will she be all right?
Yes, she's fine, okay?
Cross-match, prep three units of blood,
and a pack of universal O.
-Meet me in the OR fast.
-Will do.
Oh Yi-young, inform her guardian.
Okay.
-Where's your husband, Miss Cha?
-He's buying shoes.
He won't be here for at least a half hour.
What should I do?
[breath trembling]
Wait, has the surgery started?
It's scheduled tomorrow, so why is she
She had sudden bleeding
along with labor contractions,
we had to take her into surgery.
Your wife is still in there.
Oh, is everything okay with her?
And what about our child?
The doctors are all making sure
of that now. She'll be fine, the baby too.
[panting] Why did I get these?
I didn't get to see her before.
These things can happen on a whim,
please don't be too hard on yourself.
-Please stay near your room for updates.
-I'll stay just right here, okay?
Yes.
Oh, Doctor, please, just take good care
of my little Bo, okay?
-Can you take care of her for me?
-We'll do our best.
Thank you, thank you.
Thank you, Doctor.
[breath trembling]
Oh, Jesus.
Heading out?
Yeah. First time in three days, so
Oh, look at you.
Get some rest, and please take
a shower for me too.
Will do.
-See you tomorrow.
-Yep, see you tomorrow.
[cell phone ringing]
DR. TAE-RIM
This is Um Jae-il.
I'll head there now.
At the hospital, of course.
Hey, who leaves work at this hour anyway?
Hmm.
Are you feeling cramps in the belly again?
Has it been awhile now?
Since earlier this morning, yeah.
-This time, the whole area's cramping.
-Okay, I see.
Well, Miss Moon,
everything looks really good.
-Please don't be worried.
-Are you completely sure?
[Eun-mi] Yes. Everything's fine.
All right, I'll see you on Saturday.
We'll have our routine checkup.
So, until then.
She was much quicker
than she was before, I'd say.
You sure she checked everything,
including the heart and amniotic fluid?
Yes. That doctor can practically
read ultrasounds in her sleep, really.
She looked at it all.
She's the best, I'm sure.
Uh, if it's okay
I can take a look if that'd be all right.
Just to set your mind at ease.
Sorry?
Uh, compared to the doctor
that came in before, I'm nothing great.
What I can do is, go real slow.
I have a specialty.
And that's taking my time to look closely.
I'll make sure it's all clear.
I guarantee it.
If it's not too much trouble,
I'll take a quick peek at the area
where you said
you were experiencing cramps.
I would really appreciate that, thanks.
[chuckles]
To tell the truth,
the reason I've been hanging around here
is so I could give this a go.
It's because even just trying once
is a great opportunity for me.
All right, then.
Regardless of the first-year residents,
I'm the one
who's seen the most ultrasounds.
-You think so?
-The most, for sure.
Don't worry, I'm here to help.
Thanks.
Oh.
Look. This right here is the head.
And here are her eyes,
her nose, and her mouth.
And here
[gasps] She seems to be kicking now.
[chuckles] Got a soccer star in there.
Oh, her heartbeat. Wanna hear that?
Here you go.
[heart beating]
Heartbeat's nice
and strong too. [chuckles]
-Right.
-[heart beating]
[baby crying]
-[Gi-sun] Dr. Ham, administer oxytocin.
-Doing it now.
And is the baby okay?
Yes, the baby's fine.
The placenta accreta
is worse than expected.
-[Do-won] This side, please, Dr. Oh.
-Yes, Doctor.
Give Interventional Radiology
and Professor Ryu
-a heads-up about the situation here.
-[nurse] Will do.
-[Gi-sun] Oh Yi-young.
-Yes?
Get the consent forms signed now.
Tell him there's a possibility
of an embolization and hysterectomy.
Yes, Doctor.
Yes.
-[Gi-sun] The uterine balloon ready?
-The balloon's ready.
-Her BP's falling.
-[nurse 1] We need tape.
[nurse 2] Got it.
As you can see, all ten fingers
and toes are present.
Everything appears normal.
Congratulations.
Congratulations, sir. We're going to take
the baby over to the nursery now.
AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY
Thanks so much, thanks.
The placental adhesion is severe
and there's a lot of bleeding. I'm sorry.
-This was explained in the pre-op
-No, not my wife, no!
No, I won't allow it, I can't.
We're using a ballon tamponade now,
then we'll try embolization.
If there's still bleeding, a hysterectomy.
All of this was explained
during the pre-op assessment.
Is the situation that bad?
Tell me how bad it is.
Your wife's bleeding.
We can't say for sure, so I'm telling you
the outcomes in advance.
Let me see my wife!
I'll be really quick! Let me back
Please listen. Sign the form,
time's running out.
[breath trembling]
Please sign.
[sobbing]
CENTRAL OPERATING UNI
Thank you, I need go.

AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY EXI
-It's gotten better, right?
-Yes, it has.
Dr. Ham, how are vitals?
BP's 100/60, pulse is 100.
Do-won, we might as well try the balloon?
Let's try it.
[Gi-sun] Don't cancel the embolization
we've scheduled
or the notification to the professor.
[nurse] Yes, Doctor.
[Gi-sun] Catheter coming down.
-[Do-won] I got it.
-[Gi-sun] Start inflating the balloon.
Yes.
Saline infusion.
INFLATING WITH SALINE
TO APPLY PRESSURE AND STOP BLEEDING
I've infused 50cc.
Adding another 50.
Inject another 100cc.
[Do-won] Okay.
Total amount is now 200cc.
Stop.
-Now pack, and secure the catheter.
-Yes.
-Suture?
-Give me a 1-0
1-0 REFERS TO SUTURE SIZE
-Hold it properly.
-Sorry.
-Hold it, they're all coming undone.
-Yes.
AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY, EXI
Everything is under control.
[exhales in relief] My Bo isn't bleeding
anymore, right? She's fine now?
The uterus contracted
and that slowed the bleeding back down.
We controlled it with the balloon.
We didn't need to remove the uterus.
Everything's fine.
I'm so grateful, Doctor. [crying]
I'm so grateful. Thank you so much.
The placental adhesion caused trouble.
She was bleeding and needed
a blood transfusion.
-She's been put through a lot.
-[sniffles]
Yes, but you're sure there's
no more bleeding?
-I mean, my wife will be okay now?
-Yes, she'll be just fine.
We're going to watch over her in recovery
for about an hour,
and if there are no more issues,
we'll move her back onto the floor again.
[sobbing] Doctor,
I'm so grateful, I mean it.
I'm so glad you could save my Bo.
Thank you.
Oh goodness, you've really been going
through it out here. You've aged a lot.
Be careful you don't scare her.
[chuckles] Well, she won't be nearly
as scared as I was.
-I thought I might shrivel into nothing.
-[laughs]
Thank you.
[sighs]
TONIGHT AT 9:30 P.M. AT YOON'S CAFE
-How much longer will you be?
-What?
-It's half past, give it to me soon.
-Yeah, just a sec.
But didn't he say we just had
to get it to him at some point today?
That means we need
to send it before midnight.
No, he didn't. If he wants it today,
then he plans to look at it.
He needs it before he heads out.
Professor Jo heads home at 11:00,
so it's before then.
Plus, I need to add all my data to yours,
so we're short on time right now.
Don't rush me, okay?
Hey, this is a lot.
I need a small break, for an hour.
Why don't I get us some coffee
from Café Yoon?
-Tell me what you want, I'm buying.
-But I had coffee already.
Yeah, but I haven't had any yet.
Wait, aren't you almost done?
Get coffee afterwards.
[sighs]
Or
since I've finished it, you can add both
the parts once you're done and send it.
Dream on. That's not what we agreed on.
You don't call him ever,
I assume you must be ignorant.
He's mean when he picks the call up.
I don't like doing it either.
All right, I got it.
Watch, I'm hurrying.
Look I'm fast like you.
-Do it.
-I will!
[hurried typing]
CENTRAL OPERATING UNI
Sweetie, are you okay?
[crying] It must've been so awful.
I missed you so much,
I could hardly bear it.
Oh, and our sweet little bug is healthy.
Like her mother, so pretty,
you know? Just so pretty.
The tamponade will likely hurt
more than you think.
We'll control it with analgesics.
If it's too painful for her, let me know.
The balloon will be removed first thing,
and then we can check
for any more signs of her bleeding.
Okay.
Honey, I'll take care of you.
Okay?
I'm here, don't be worried, my love.
Right now, let's just prioritize
another child.
[squeaks]
I really prayed so hard your womb wouldn't
get removed, you have no idea.
We should at least have one son, huh?
My dream was to have a boy and a girl.
Oh. Let's take two months' rest,
then get back to trying.
Little Bo, you got this. Mm.
You [winces]
Sorry, excuse me, don't you think
Come here. [panting softly]
[imperceptible]
[sighs]
You piece of [bleep],
lazy son of a [bleep].
You're out of your mind, [bleep]!
What the hell!
You [bleep], who do you think you are,
you [bleep]-head?
Uh
Your wife wanted me to tell you
all of that. Sorry.
She'd threated to discharge herself
if I didn't say it.
I, uh
Well, I mean, even so.
Honey, you okay?
Are you in your right mind?
[imperceptible]
[sighs]
I'm supposed to tell you
the rest of what she said now.
[sighs]
Listen [bleeping]
[inaudible]
[inaudible]
We'll get some feedback later.
You must be starving.
It wasn't bad, it's pretty early.
It's only 10:30 right now.
10:30 already.
Wait, it's past 10:00 now?
What?
He read it.
Gi-dong. He read the text.
When did he read it?
He was ignoring it before.
It's way past 9:30 now.
-Mm-hmm, the time is 10:32.
-Oh, no, it's too late!
-What if he waited for me there, huh?
-Who did? What?
[sighs] Please be there.
Ugh, this is all your fault!
What's going on right now?
-[doorbell rings]
-[line ringing]
[sighs]
Did he show up and leave,
or was he a no-show?
[sighs] What if he's really angry now?
HONG GI-DONG
[line ringing]
YOON'S CAFE
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
Oh, Dr. Myeong's doing her presentation
tomorrow at the conference, yes?
-Yeah.
-Which R1 are you bringing?
NURSE'S OFFICE, DELIVERY ROOM
Oh Yi-young?
Are you gonna have something
going on at home,
or have plans all of a sudden,
or be sick as usual? Again?
You've never attended a conference.
You know it's required for your residency.
-So when will you go?
-I will attend the next one.
You'll be going now, my orders.
You're going, too, right?
Sorry?
The second author should attend.
It's such a great occasion.
Dr. Oh Yi-young
will be coming with me tomorrow.
Great. You guys have been through a lot,
so buy a nice meal and have a stiff drink.
[snaps fingers]
Will do.
We've watched you since the balloon was
taken out. There's no sign of bleeding.
It all looks great.
Thanks a lot, I'm grateful for you.
And, I guess your husband
hasn't been here today?
Uh.
He's become very popular
around the ward here, you know.
They're all sick with envy.
Perhaps I should go do some ultrasounds
and make sure they're okay? [laughs]
Everyone said, "So sweet, so sweet"
so often,
I thought that his name was actually "So."
-[laughing]
-[all chuckle awkwardly]
He's not here because I was mad
and told him to stay home.
He won't be back for a while.
Hmm, really? Why is that?
It's hard to find a husband
who's so caring.
Ah, you must find it annoying
that he smothers you
and has to show all that affection
around everyone. Is that it?
-You know
-Professor.
Miss Han Na-gyeong is waiting
for you in room 6107.
She really takes your word
as gospel, you know.
She's been waiting since dawn,
so you should head over.
You're right, she must be
desperately waiting, huh?
Then we better go. See you later.
[cell phone ringing]
OB/GYN, Um Jae-il speaking.
Today, it's, uh
It's Saturday, so I actually
have today off, yeah.
Oh. There's a patient
who's been asking to see you,
so I called, but it's all right.
Uh Hey, nurse, I'm
just gonna have to pass,
but I'm really sorry.
-Just once, I promise.
-It's fine.
I can call up Dr. Oh Yi-young.
Get your rest.
Wait. What did you say?
That I got asked for?
They actually asked for me, you mean it?
So did anything happen lately
that seemed unusual?
No.
Oh. I get it.
Today's the regular checkup I scheduled.
I didn't just walk in this time.
[chuckles] Yeah, I know.
By the way, can you please be thorough
like before again, Doctor?
Sure thing.
I'll take plenty of time, okay?
Um
her heartbeat is perfectly fine,
her movements look good.
The amniotic fluid volume
is looking great too.
And let's see
Hmm.
Huh?
What is it?
What? Is anything wrong?
-Nurse, um
-Yes?
-Call the professor, would you?
-Sorry?
I'm not certain yet,
but it looks like this could be a vessel.
-Please tell her she should take a look.
-Ah, sure.
[curtain opens, closes]
Hey, spotting this
is pretty hard, actually.
Jae-il, look here,
this is a uterine rupture, see?
Oh! So that's
So, Miss Moon, this here is your
umbilical cord we're looking at right now.
Right.
You look at this spot, you can see
it's protruding slightly
through the uterine wall,
but the amniotic sac is too.
Luckily, it hasn't yet ruptured
at this stage of things.
I'm sorry, so what does that mean?
I'd suggest surgery, that will ensure
the safest delivery method.
-Sorry?
-Should I go book an OR for her?
There's a room
where a surgery's almost done now.
I'm on it.
We need to start preparing for surgery.
Please just wait in the delivery unit.
We'll transfer you there soon.
-No need to be scared now.
-[inhales]
Nothing will happen to our child,
right? She's okay?
Everything will work out?
This surgery is precisely to make sure
your little girl is safe, okay?
For now, please trust me, it's all good.
So put your mind to rest.
[breathes deeply]
[ringing]
Yes, Professor?
Sorry?
Wait, data is missing?
That can't be right.
Oh, that part was by Nam-kyung,
so that's why.
But I'm sorry, it's still on me
for not checking, I apologize.
-I'll change it and send
-[line disconnects]
Pyo Nam-kyung. Seriously?
-Mind if I join?
-Hi, hello.
[sighs]
What's up with you?
Doctor, I have never been in an argument
with anybody else, ever.
And, it seems like
that's all I do these days.
-Who are you arguing with?
-Uh
I won't mention anyone directly involved.
I don't talk about anyone like that.
It's a rule I try to follow.
That's good.
-What's it about?
-They totally defy logic.
By the way they talk, the way they think.
If I talk to them, then I understand them
even less afterward!
What do I do about any of this?
Should I tell you?
Don't understand them.
Accept that it's the way they are. Hmm?
Arguing to try and understand them
isn't gonna yield much in the end.
Fixing them won't work,
so walk away from it.
It's your loss if you waste
your time and emotions
trying to change someone you can't change.
It's pointless, so don't bother.
Even so,
I should let them know, shouldn't I?
And whether or not they change
isn't my concern this time.
But I can still speak my mind.
Since I've been wronged,
why should I keep swallowing it down?
I can't accept it at all.
[Jung-min] The baby is perfectly fine
as of now.
At 2.3 kilos,
she's a little underweight for her age,
but her breathing's good, her heart rate's
strong, she's moving around.
-It looks really good.
-[sighs]
I've gone through so many
ultrasounds lately and I really just
Oh, uh
I went through every one of your
previous scans from your visits here.
They've been clear before this one.
Even if you had ultrasounds performed
on you every day,
this was a problem
that developed quickly in-between,
so later on that evening,
even the following morning.
No, it's not that.
The reason I've had
so many ultrasounds done on me
is because I make it up.
I fake symptoms to be seen.
Just in case the pain's something new.
Whenever I read on the Internet
how this or that happened
to another little baby, I'd just worry
about how there was actually a chance
I could go through it too.
So then I would start getting belly pains
even though I'd been fine before that.
I knew on some level it wasn't true,
but then I would get so afraid.
So I always wanted a second opinion.
I'm really sorry.
I wanted to apologize
for everything I put you through
because I'm just so paranoid.
It wasn't okay.
I really do apologize.
No worries.
That's very understandable.
Your first pregnancy is hard.
-You were worried, that's all.
-This is all my fault.
It's just my own anxiety, Doctor.
My worries gave the baby anxiety, so I'm
the cause of her problems, aren't I?
As I already explained before,
that is absolutely not true.
And your child is healthy,
so really, don't worry.
And that's the reason
she came a whole week early, right?
-Is she really doing all right?
-Yes.
You can trust that because
she's in the nursery, not the ICU.
She's a strong, healthy girl.
I heard if they're born too early, there
can be issues sometimes with their lungs.
Is there any chance
of that happening to her?
No, her lungs are fully developed.
We ran our tests,
and she's been cleared of any concerns.
Please don't worry about her.
You did mention she was
a little underweight.
Not enough to be something
that worries you.
-Everything's completely fine.
-So it's okay then?
If I try to let my anxiety go
and relax going forward?
My baby's been born healthy and strong,
like you said just now.
I can stop worrying so much in the future?
Ah, no, you'll still worry.
Hmm, you thought because she's here,
you're done?
This is where it all starts.
This year, it was my mother's
70th birthday, and you know what?
She still calls every day
about something or another.
[doctors chuckle]
"If you drink cold water in the morning,
you'll get an upset stomach."
"If you drive at night,
you'll have an accident." [inhales]
"When it rains, stay safe at home."
[sighs] I thought my mother
was always overreacting.
At least, until I had a daughter,
I started doing all those things too.
[all chuckle]
My daughter is in eighth grade now.
She told me a couple days ago
her ankle hurt.
[sighs] As soon as I heard that,
I worried it might be her fibrous tissue,
or something worse.
And I was so worried all night,
I couldn't sleep a wink.
And the next morning, she rode to school
on her bike like it was nothing.
[all laughing]
Sorry to say it,
but your worries are about to triple.
So I think you should abandon any hopes
that fear will magically go away.
That's going to be the best
course of action for your mental health.
What else can you do, really?
It's the price we pay, right?
For everything our children do.
And the joy they bring us.
But here's some good news.
Nearly all the things you fear
will happen most,
never really cross the threshold.
Have some faith now.
I will. Thank you so much.
I got what you asked.
[gasps]
Oh, where is he?
Is the male doctor around?
The resident who did my ultrasound?
He was the best in the whole hospital.
I want to thank the man who comforted me.
-Ah.
-Uh
-Oh, he's
-He, uh
-Oh, where did he go?
-Where is he? He was just here.
[babies crying]
[man] Dr. Um Jae-il?
Oh! Hello.
Fancy running into you here.
Hey, how's tennis going?
-I haven't had time for three weeks.
-Me neither. I've been way too busy.
Yeah, no kidding. How could an R1
start and run a tennis league?
Barely have time to eat and sleep.
I remember those days.
Still haunts me years later.
What are you doing here?
An infant who's gonna be
treated jointly with CS.
-You?
-The patient was worried for her daughter.
I came to take a picture of the baby
to show her,
but she's so cute,
I can't seem to walk away.
[both chuckle]
And I've been involved with this baby
since the ultrasound stage, the beginning.
It was the first umbilical cord
I got to cut. It was great. [chuckles]
Oh, Doctor, we delivered her
and ten minutes later,
her oxygen saturation was 90%.
-That's all right, don't you think?
-Of course.
Oh, thank goodness, yeah.
Their blood oxygen saturation changes
by the minute when they're first born.
At ten minutes,
even 85% is considered all right.
You learned this as a med student.
Did you forget?
[chuckles] I did.
Just a minute there, Dr. Um,
that's not okay.
Sorry?
All right.
Say there's a healthy infant,
they develop a bluish tint
but no other symptoms.
What do you do then?
[inhales sharply] Hmm.
Intubation?
That's wrong. You check the oxygen
saturation in the upper and lower limbs.
Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining.
Okay. What if there's a healthy infant
who shows signs of cyanosis?
What test should be run?
An echocardiograph, right? Come on!
Really? You'd need to check for
some type of congenital heart disease.
Right.
Of course, I'm sorry.
[chuckles]
I'm sorry. We don't have any R1s
over in CS, so I'm messing with you.
I always wanted to do this
to a junior once in my life.
[chuckles]
Where is she? The Um Jae-il Baby?
Oh. Right there.
The littlest one right at the end, look.
Uh, currently, she's the shortest
and lightest out of all the babies here.
-She's dead last for now.
-Hmm.
Doesn't matter, does it?
It's not important who's at the bottom.
She can still leave the hospital on top.
It's just the first day of her life.
Today is only the beginning.
[chuckles softly]
Yeah, it can hurt for a week
or so after egg retrieval.
I didn't get ascites this time,
so I'm all right.
[train approaching]
Mm-hmm.
I'll let you know
when the hospital calls with news.
[breath trembling]
RESERVED SEAT FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
[cell phone ringing]
FERTILITY CENTER
Oh, hello, nurse, how are you?
How many did we get? How many eggs?
[nurse] The day after the egg retrieval,
two of your eggs were fertilized,
and as we explained to you,
we cultured them for five days
to prepare them for implantation.
But unfortunately, neither of them
was in a good state,
so the culturing ultimately failed.
I'm sorry to disappoint you,
but we can't proceed
with the transfer at this time
due to the results being unsuccessful.
-[grunts]
-Oops, I'm sorry.
-["On Such A Day" by WINTER playing]
-[groans softly]
[sighs]
[sighs]
[sighs]
Were you waiting there long?
Are you angry?
Can't you just pick up the phone
and talk? Please?
Hey, come on!
I already said I'm sorry.
What else can I do?
[sighs]
Ah!
-[door opens]
-[sighs]
What now?
[sighs] Hey, let's do this later.
-Do what?
-Whatever you're trying to say.
I'm not in the mood to talk
or argue about anything.
I've got something I need to say.
[sighs] Go ahead. It's not like
you can help yourself anyway.
I got the professor's comments. He checked
the data but found a huge issue.
You left ten subjects out of the paper.
So I added all ten in
and sent it back to him.
I got distracted and missed those,
Thanks a ton. You happy now?
Anything else?
[sighs]
Next is regarding your arrival time.
As for our 6:30 debate, I was right
that those instructions were for you.
But I didn't know the professor would
reprimand you so harshly for the mistake.
If I hadn't spent time arguing
and just talked to the patient instead,
the professor wouldn't have yelled at you.
So, um, I'm really sorry about that.
What's this?
Uh, are you apologizing?
Just act like your usual self.
I just wanted to set the facts straight
about who's at fault
and who should apologize and all of that.
It's a cardinal rule I have.
Hmm.
That was the speech, it's over.
Well, uh
In that case
I'm sorry for the things I said
to Yeom Mi-so,
about how you're inflexible
and the polar opposite of me.
I wasn't trying to throw shade or anything
like that, I was just venting is all.
I probably exaggerated some of it.
Sorry for that.
Let's put this behind us.
I guess we're back
to being friendly again? Cheers.
-So I was the one who's an android?
-Huh?
Not Oh Yi-young?
-I was the one?
-Huh?
You know what?
Isn't it rude to discuss staff in
conversations? While you're on the clock?
[coughing]
How could you think I have no empathy
and flexibility? I don't understand.
-Why is that? What was I doing?
-Have some squid.
What was the context?
-Someone's calling.
-When was I inflexible?
-You're not even holding your phone right.
-Hello?
-Just hang up the phone.
-Hey, I need to get going. See you later.

KOREAN SOCIETY OF MATERNAL-FETAL MEDICINE
29TH CONFERENCE
-Congratulations.
-Thank you.
[Eun-won] Oh, Dr. Ku. Just a minute.
It may not be much, but you should
have this. It's the right thing to do.
No, thank you, I'm fine.
Please take it, I insist.
No, really, I said I'm fine.
Are you angry?
I can tell you're upset
over the author issue.
We've barely spoken since the phone call.
I certainly hope you don't think
I stole this.
I know you're not like that,
but I wanted to check.
I wouldn't want the professors
hearing any rumors about this. [chuckles]
That'd be embarrassing.
No, you don't need to worry about it.
Thank you for saying that.
I've been feeling just horrible.
It was a small error,
I should've said something sooner.
-An error?
-Yes, an error.
I had so much going on.
[sighs] I've been so overworked lately.
I understand why you're upset now.
I'd feel the same way.
The next time we write a paper,
we can both be first authors.
Let bygones be bygones.
Hey, If you ever need something, just ask.
How does that sound?
Anything for you.
Yeah, thanks so much.
I should head back over.
-Hello.
-Oh, hello, Dr. Oh.
So we're clear,
I wasn't trying to eavesdrop
on you at all.
So don't get the wrong idea.
But I've overheard you twice now.
You haven't said sorry, Dr. Myeong.
Hmm?
You haven't said sorry.
Don't you think you should?
Oh.
I didn't? I think I did.
You didn't.
[chuckles sheepishly]
Please accept my apologies.
For everything.
I'll see you guys later.
Let's go home then.
Why did you mention that?
I don't care if she apologizes.
I care about it, so there.
Ah! Yeah, that's better now.
-[burps]
-[chuckles]
Now she's going to want
your head on a stake.
Things'll get tougher for you
around the hospital. Strap in.
I'll manage. If I have to, I'll quit.
What?
Hey, you should be angry right now.
Aren't you pissed?
-What are you, Jesus, Buddha or what?
-Just a doormat.
Doormat Do-won.
-Did you forget that?
-Doormat?
[sighs] I'm still angry thinking about it.
You [bleep] of [bleep],
lazy son of a [bleep].
You're out of your mind, you [bleep]!
What the hell!
Don't speak to me like that,
you mother-[bleep] loser!
[laughing]
Hang on, did you write that down, or what?
No, luckily, it stuck.
That's good. You've got natural talent.
I'm like a savant, it just rolled off
my tongue. Guess I really am talented.
I thought you said earlier that
you liked me. You made that up?
Who curses like that in front of someone
they truly like?
I guess you've gotten over me now.
No, I haven't.
Listen, I meant everything.
Sometimes, I curse
around a guy I like, I swear.
I know it's stupid.
[Do-won chuckles]
How about you say it one more time?
You mean it?
Is it okay if I like you?
I didn't mean that one.
Ah.
You wanted to hear
the "piece of shit" thing again?
[sighs]
All right, listen,
I won't repeat this again.
Okay.
[bleep] you piece of [bleep],
lazy son of a [bleep].
You're out of your mind, you [bleep].
What the hell?
Don't speak to me like that,
you mother-[bleep] loser!
[laughing]
-You're such a prick.
-[laughing]
Quit with that shit.
-Hold on, that part wasn't in there.
-Oh, yeah, I said that one.
[both laughing]

OB-GYN JULY ON-CALL SCHEDULE
THANKS TO OUR SPECIAL GUEST,
BAE HYEON-SEONG, OUR ETERNAL JANG HONG-DO
RESIDENT PLAYBOOK
[Jae-hui] You're preparing
to recruit interns?
[Gi-sun] Sadly, this year's crop
was an abject failure.
They're all unwell, sure seems like it.
You think that's funny?
You're laughing?
You know how many times
you've called Anesthesia today?
I know, but just this once.
I'm begging you.
The patient must be here.
[Jae-hui] You said it's not coming today.
If next year's crop fails,
we will be the failures!
[doctor] Dr. Ku,
you're off work starting tomorrow?
Don't call with, "Where are you?"
Lookin' at you, Um Jae-il.
It's just three days, come on.
-Don't worry about us.
-[Do-won] See you guys later.
[Sa-bi] Every time I ask a question,
they tell me to ask the chief.
[Yi-young] How many times do we have
to tell them he's not here?
-[yelps, grumbles] Damn Obstetrics!
-What's his issue?
I'm telling you it's not possible.
Should we not call you about it?
[Yi-young] Everyone thinks we're stupid
'cause we put up with them.
Exactly. Counting to ten before you speak
is just wasting your time.
[Jae-il] All you get from that
is a sore tongue. No, thanks!
Huh? Belly cramps? Does your belly hurt?
He's in emergency surgery right now,
what should I do?
Don't worry, I am a famous doctor.
