Nobody Sleeps

L.H. is the target.
It looks like this L.H. is
encouraging these weirdos
to follow through on whatever
fantasies they have.
And basically do them.
Frank, I'm not gonna put
Maggie's life in danger, all right?
Hear me out.
There's nothing you can say
that's gonna make me change my mind,
so just save it, all right?
Shove it. Shove it up your ass.
We trash the case, I'll walk away.
It's over.
You done?
Yeah, I'm fucking done.
Mike Reardon's a fucking psychopath.
You don't think his sister knows that?
You don't think that's
why she wants to do this?
If Reardon thinks, even for a
second, we're gonna grab him,
he's gonna start blowing
people's fucking heads off.
All right, that's
why we do it different.
We do it here, out in the
open, out in the street.
No, her house is a smart move.
It's her brother.
It's a family dinner.
You, her, and him.
He's gonna be off guard.
- We want him off guard.
- No, fuck that.
- Here, in the street.
- No.
No, it does not work.
We need to take him
down in the apartment
in possession of the guns.
I don't want him
lawyering up and walking.
I won't have it.
We worked too long,
too hard for this case.
Look, Tommy, the fact that you
fell in love with his sister
is all kinds of fucked up.
But that's where we are,
and I'm doing what I
can to be sympathetic.
Can't do it, Frankie.
- Can't do it.
- You have to do it.
Hey, fuck you.
Listen, I'm talking
to you like a friend,
now, fuck the case.
Two friends, that's all we are.
We try to take him down in
street and he starts shooting,
we have to put one in his
head, what happens then?
Maggie hates you forever
for killing her brother.
Now, you want that?
I don't want her
there when it goes down.
That's up to you.
All I care about is
that Reardon sits down
for a nice plate of corned beef
or whatever the fuck you people eat.
Me in the team come in her front door,
he never expects it,
and nobody gets hurt.
It's her fucking brother, Frankie.
She gonna hate me forever.
I know, you love the girl,
but you gotta ask
yourself once and for all,
are you a cop or aren't ya?
The pattern on the message
boards are consistent.
The user posed a threat, L.H. answered.
The user always has
a fantasy to kidnap,
kill, rape men, women, children.
At this point, either the
user is dismissed as a fraud,
somebody that isn't
ready to take the step
from fantasy to reality,
or most likely, moved
to another chatroom.
Or maybe this will help.
This is a criminal profile written
up by my guy in Quantico.
He's one of the best behavioral
science analysts in the world.
And in it, he says, you'll
note, paragraph two,
that L.H. is extremely educated,
intelligent, and manipulative.
When he's dealing with someone
with a poor vocabulary,
he uses simple verbs and adjectives,
careful not to intimidate the user
or make them feel inferior.
But with more intelligent users,
it's clear he has a
vast knowledge of art,
politics, and culture.
We have to go after him.
We need
We need a fantasy, something
that he can believe.
Okay, suggestions.
I never thought about killing anyone.
I once read a short story.
Or maybe I wrote it.
I'm not sure, but it was about somebody
who kidnapped young girls and
then called their parents up
and made them beg for
their daughters back.
The power of it excited him.
It wasn't even, like, sexual.
Just wanted them to beg.
He wanted to feel that held the power.
That's good. I believe it.
- Mm.
- Truthful.
Whatever you write,
make sure it's a monster
that L.H. believes in.
The profile says that at his heart,
L.H. is a narcissist.
We need to speak to that.
You know, you're having these
feelings, these thoughts.
This is the first time you've had them.
You don't know what to do about it.
You're confused by these feelings.
He's the one who can aid you.
You're searching for the one,
the one person who can help you out.
- Speak to that, maybe we'll get him.
- Got it.
When did it start?
What?
Your fantasy to kidnap girls.
Oh.
When I was seven.
Good.
Tell us about that first memory.
What it was like.
What it felt like.
How you felt.
I hate myself for
thinking these thoughts,
but I can't push them away.
I want to kill myself.
I want to be normal.
I need help.
If there's someone out there,
if you're the one, please help.
Fuck.
Mm.
- Josephine.
- Anything yet?
He's posted another thread.
Did he reply?
No.
Nothing yet.
I can't stop thinking about it.
It controls me.
You know, it's like it's
in the driver's seat.
You know, if I could just say,
no, I don't want to.
Died for your sins
so you don't have to.
How's it going?
Surprised to see you.
Oh, yeah? Why's that?
Usually, when I proposition
a guy and they turn me down,
they don't have the
balls to show up again.
How often does that happen?
You're the only one.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
And right now, I'm noticing
that Irish love ring on your hand.
I'm not sure how I missed that before,
but I'm figuring I made a mistake
and that you're here for the baseball.
My apologies.
Yanks look to even the season series
this weekend on their
Yanks and Sox, taped.
Want the final or the misery
of seeing it for yourself?
Oh, no, the misery suits me fine.
Just in case it gets too much for you.
Bronx Bombers
will take on the Boston Red Sox
in what is arguably
the greatest rivalry
in American sports today.
And we're broadcasting live
from Yankee Stadium in
New York City where
Tommy.
Tommy.
A long fly ball, center field!
Oh, that's a long one!
Bouncing off the back wall
In wine there's wisdom.
In beer there's freedom.
In water there's bacteria.
Benjamin Franklin, if you
can believe the internet.
Cheers.
Cheers.
I hate the internet.
I knew I liked you for a reason.
I don't think it's Franklin.
- No?
- Mm-mm,
because the term bacteria
was only invented in the mid-1800s.
I think it was a biologist named
Christian Ehrenberg.
- Oh.
- Christian Ehrenberg.
- Ehrenberg.
- I'll drink to that.
Wanna tell me about the ring?
Or her?
She's gone.
Isn't she?
Sure she's gone or
you wouldn't be here.
You're a lot of things, but
you're not that kind of guy.
I should get outta here.
Ever been grinded?
Why do you hate yourself so much?
You ask too many questions.
I'm an artist.
If I don't see you,
I mean, really see you,
then when I'm done, I'll
just throw this thing away.
I'd rather keep it.
- Hm?
- Mm.
So what's a New York
cop doing in Stockholm?
Looking for bad guys.
Oh, you ran out of
bad guys in New York?
Just the one that got away.
You know, I've lived in
Sweden most of my life,
but I've lived in New York, Boston,
Detroit, believe it or not,
and the big difference
between here and there
seems to be that everyone
here is under this illusion
that it's this wonderful place
where nothing bad ever happens.
But it does happen here.
I don't see it,
but I feel it.
Same way I can feel what's inside you.
- Hm.
- Mm.
Like, right now, looking at your face
- Mm-hm?
- Mm.
Kind eyes,
but they're tortured,
twisted,
drowning in pain,
and I'm trying my best
to understand some of it
so I can finish this thing.
That's me?
Yeah.
Close as I can get to you.
- It's all twisted.
- Mm.
Does that surprise you?
No.
Doesn't surprise me.
Shh.
Fuck off, you fucker.
I don't want fakers.
I don't want gamers.
This is my life.
This is my truth.
If you're fucking around,
then get off of this thread.
Fuck.
Yes.
I'm the puppet master
and I say we get Phille some chocolate.
"When I got shot, you were there."
"When I lost the
business, you were there."
"When I lost the house, you were there."
"And even in all my
fucking terrible health,"
"you stayed right by my side."
And he says, "You know what?"
She says, "What?"
He says, "I think you're bad luck."
- You heard that one?
- Yeah, yeah.
I got it, I'll get a
beer, you cook the dinner.
- I'll get a beer.
- You stay there.
- You're my fucking guest.
- Oh, this is your
- space right now?
- This is my space, come on.
- All right, this is my space.
- You wanna do it?
Oh, look it, he's got it going on.
Getting a little proper
standing, look at this.
- All right.
- Fuck off.
I'll get some coffee.
- Fuck.
- What's up?
We got problems.
Take this.
- Shit.
- Fuck.
Fuck!
Mike, put the gun down.
NYPD. It ends now.
Put it down.
Tommy.
Put the fucking gun down now.
What the fuck?
Maggie, stay where
you are. It's all right.
Put it down, Mike.
Put it down.
Did you know about this?
Put the gun down!
Down!
- Police officer!
- Clear!
Stand down, stand down.
Conley, are you hit?
I'm all right.
Maggie. Maggie!
- Tommy.
- No, no, no.
No, no. No.
No, stay with me, stay.
Maggie, stay, stay, stay.
Stay, stay here, stay here.
Maggie, no, no.
No.
No, no, no!
No, no!
Hey, what is it?
What's wrong? Are you okay?
Hey.
Hey.
Talk to me.
I can't be here.
I'm sorry.
But it's all right.
Come back to bed.
Okay?
I can't.
I can't.
I'm Sorry.
It's my fault.
Hey.
- The same.
- Yeah.
