Chicago P.D. (2014) s08e15 Episode Script
The Right Thing
1
All right?
I got it.
I told you it was gonna be fine.
You don't have to
You don't have to say that to me, man.
How many times you gonna
tell me the same thing?
- It
- Hey!
You good?
Okay. I got it.
Just just give me a chance,
and I'll figure it out.
[DINNER MUSIC PLAYS]
- Deputy Miller.
- Evening.
I I ordered you a scotch. I guessed.
Oh. You guessed right.
Okay, good.
- [CLEARS THROAT]
- All right.
So what's the occasion?
- Celebration.
- Mm.
Reports are being released
to CompStat tomorrow,
and the numbers are pretty good.
- Hm.
- Huge drop in CRs,
and a corresponding drop in crime.
New Chicago Policing
is finally showing progress.
- Hm.
- And I wanted to thank you.
- Huh.
- For buying in.
Or
We had a cold wave come in.
People stayed inside.
Stopped shooting each other
till it warms back up.
[WHISPERS] Wow.
Is that you a thing or a Chicago thing?
- Hm.
- Waiting for the next storm.
More like an alternative theory thing.
Look I've been down this road before.
- Mm.
- This is how it starts.
Atlanta, Newark;
Reform goes so slow,
you can't even see it
until it's blinding you all at once.
Huh.
- You made it!
- I was bored.
This is Sergeant Hank Voight
who runs the Intelligence Unit
The one I was telling you about
The one who works all the big cases.
Oh, cool.
Hank, this is my son, Darrell.
Oh.
So she talks about me a lot, huh?
- Yeah.
- [LAUGHS]
She thinks it makes her too relatable.
To run a police force, you gotta be more
- than a mere mortal, yeah?
- Mm.
He was living in Atlanta,
and he's been in Chicago for two months.
- [PHONE BUZZING]
- He's going to DePaul.
I hope you don't mind.
I told him to stop by
if he wanted a bite.
No, of course not.
It's nice to meet you.
I gotta grab this. Be right back.
You have a son.
How did I not know that?
He grew up with his father, my ex
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Who, uh
He never lived with me.
He came out here for a change.
Change in Chicago.
Seems to be the thing these days.
[TIRES SQUEALING, HORN BLARING]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[TIRES SQUEALING, HORN BLARING]
[TENSE MUSIC]
Put your hands on the wheel.
Get 'em on the wheel!
Darrell? Get out of the car.
- Nice and slow.
- You got your gun out?
- Jesus.
- It is what it is.
You carrying anything
I should know about, hm?
- Gun, knife?
- Come on, man.
Why are you following me?
- I need your help.
- With what?
"Intelligence Unit," "Sergeant."
My mom told me about you.
I thought maybe you could
The quicker you get to the point.
I owe some people a lot of money.
If I don't pay 'em soon,
they're gonna kill me.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
You have a nice place.
This your kid?
We're around the same age.
Tell me what's going on right now.
I party sometimes up north.
There's these college kids.
[CHUCKLES]
What are you dealing?
Just a little coke.
And a little coke turns
into a lot of money.
How?
Well, these guys,
they say they'll pay me back.
And they do eventually.
I just
I got a little
buried under it with my dealer.
I owe 10K.
Who's your dealer?
His name's Kent Darby.
He owns a strip club.
Practically nobody.
Crap dude.
Why the hell are you here?
Why aren't you telling your mom this?
[LAUGHS]
Have you met her?
[SOFT, TENSE MUSIC]
I messed up, okay?
And this
This will kill her.
Can't you help me without telling her?
[CHUCKLES]
You've got to be kidding me.
Look, Sam, I'm
I'm pretty sure he's thinking
since you're my boss,
I wouldn't want your kid
to get in trouble.
Right. I mean, look.
He's not a bad kid.
Just he's got a gift
for finding trouble.
Sam, you don't have
to explain anything to me.
My son was the same way at his age.
I'm just telling you this 'cause
'Cause it's the right thing to do.
But look, as far as I'm concerned,
we never had this conversation.
How's that?
I'll help him off-book.
- I'm okay.
- I'm not.
I don't wanna use my office in that way.
I want you to help him,
but I want you to treat this
as any other case.
Put him down as a CI,
and I'll take care
of whatever else happens.
Someone we know has been
dealing eight balls
for a small-time dealer
named Kent Darby.
Darby runs coke
out of a strip club he owns
in Logan Square.
Darrell, our CI, he says
it's a small-time operation.
He's the only dealer outside the club.
Most the product
goes directly to customers.
Seems like a little fish.
Why aren't we farming this
out to Narcotics?
Because we know the CI.
His name is Darrell Miller.
As in Deputy Miller?
Her son.
Huh.
All right. So what?
Kid got himself in a little trouble.
This should be easy, okay?
We do a buy-bust.
We give Darrell 10K from
the 1505 funds to pay Kent,
he re-ups, we bust 'em both,
Darrell gets a deal.
Wait, so Sarge,
we're putting Darrell on paper?
It's the way Miller wants to play it.
I can respect that.
Look Darrell's downstairs right now.
Just wire him up and let's get
this thing done quick.
Oh, so this doesn't bother you at all?
What about it?
We're using our badge to help
a cop's kid out of a jam.
We're doing a favor for a cop
who's been good to us.
Exactly. A favor for privilege.
Come on, bro, you know we
wouldn't be working this case
if it wasn't for that kid's last name.
Yo!
Walls are not soundproof in here.
Watch your volume, kay?
- Sorry about that.
- Sorry, Sarge.
- We all set?
- Yes, we are.
Darrell, right?
Yes, sir.
I'm Officer Atwater.
That's Officer Ruzek.
- Thank you, Sarge.
- Mm.
Heard a lot about you.
All right, Darrell.
We're gonna hook you up.
You understand what you gotta do?
Hand off the cash,
get more coke,
wait to be arrested.
Yes, sir.
I know I'm getting a deal.
I do.
And I'm grateful.
But it's also not all I am.
You know, privilege, son of my mom.
I'm not all bad.
I'm sure that's true.
Just like everybody else
that deals dope.
It ain't your fault
you're getting off easy.
So hard to behave
You can be challenged
with a hard game
Shake me to the core
Yo, how you doin', bro? You good?
You all right? Good to see you.
Geez, kid.
Yo, Jay. Darrell's heading your way.
Copy you. I see him.
[CROWD WHOOPING]
Yo, Kent. Where's Lady Jupiter?
I thought she was gonna be here.
I was gonna ask her out.
Heads up, Jay. We got a gun.
Where's the money?
Relax. I got it.
Go ahead. Count.
You know, I told you
when you started, did I not?
You screw up, he'll kill you.
He'll put your ass in the ground.
He. Who's he?
Kent's supplier?
- Heard you then, hear you now.
- I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure you don't hear
a damn thing.
You gonna give me a re-up or not?
This sound right to you?
What do we got?
Jay, hold tight. Something's off.
We both know I move product,
that I make you guys money.
[CHUCKLES]
All right, looks like they're
about to make the exchange.
Copy that.
[MUFFLED MUSIC CONTINUES]
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Who is this dude?
Uh, Jay, Sarge,
looks like we stumbled
into a real case here.
This guy has a lot of product.
I'm talking multiple, multiple kilos,
a half-mil at least.
Yo. What the hell?
I thought y'all were coming in.
Y'all left me there
- like a fool.
- You forgot
- to tell us something?
- What are you talking about?
Darrell, you said this guy
was small-time.
How the hell is that small-time?
Nah, no. I don't know about that.
Sure, you do. Who's he working with?
What's the name of his boss, man?
I don't know.
You don't wanna keep lying
to us, Darrell.
But I'm telling you the truth.
- I just sell eight balls, man.
- You sure about that?
'Cause you just walked us
into a major drug operation.
Now we need to investigate,
find out who Kent's boss is.
- Come on.
- No, Darrell.
It don't work like that.
We don't work for you.
We gotta investigate that weight now,
see where the hell it's coming from.
God.
Shut up and get your ass in the van.
Come on, man.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- I can't believe he told you.
- So look.
What exactly are you moving?
Ounces, kilos?
I told you. Just a couple
of eight balls. That's it.
And I'm supposed to believe that now?
Well, you never believe me.
Why do you think I told
your sergeant instead of you?
You don't wanna hear
I screwed up, that I
No. Of course, I don't.
Because I didn't raise you
You didn't raise me, Ma.
- I am trying to help you.
- Well, then help me!
Look, I'm asking for your help.
So Kent's dealing in bulk, and I'm not.
You know me.
You should know me.
I'm just dealing to some guys
I thought were my friends.
Trying to get in with them
at some school you insisted I go to.
That's it.
I may be stupid,
but I'm not some big-time dealer.
Look, what Kent's got going on,
that's on him.
- It's got nothing to do with me.
- Oh, no.
It's got everything to do with you.
You chose to do this.
You chose this way.
Your office.
- Have you ID'd Kent's source?
- Nope.
He's got no priors, no links
to any big dealers we know.
Mudds and Tolls turned up nothing.
Okay.
Then we gotta build up.
Yeah, but Sam, you understand if
If we run this by the book,
it's gonna roll back on you.
That is a lot of weight.
It is gonna be a big bust.
And I have to bump Darrell up
to Cooperating Defendant,
- and he'll testify.
- I know that.
Well, then you should consider
What don't you understand, Hank?
You think I don't believe what I preach?
I am who I say I am,
who I said I was
since the day I met you.
I think everybody has a line
where principles blur.
Principles don't get to change
when things touch you.
Sam, this would harm no one.
We don't pick and choose.
We have laws, and we serve them.
You had some of the same issues
with your son, right?
So you get it.
I've been here before with him.
Darrell needs to know consequences.
He needs to feel this.
And at this point,
I don't know what else to do.
We pressed Darrell,
but he's sticking to it.
Says he has no idea who Kent
works for, who supplies him.
For what it's worth, I believe him.
Okay.
All right, so what do we have
on the club?
On paper, the place belongs to Kent,
but the money isn't his.
Yeah, the mortgage is paid by an LLC.
So there's this silent partner
that I'm pretty sure
is probably Kent's boss,
and he's the actual owner.
Found no other links between Kent
and a big-time supplier or dealer.
His personal finances,
social media contacts,
LKAs they all look legit.
Whoever our boss is, he's good.
Well, the quickest way for us to ID him
is use what we got, Darrell and Kent.
You two have been working with him.
Get Darrell to intro you guys as buyers.
Best case, we meet the boss in person.
Arrest 'em all in one swoop,
nice and easy.
Hey.
Just make sure you detail every piece
of Darrell's help on book.
I want that kid looking
like a saint, understand me?
You got it, boss.
I mean, that's a lot of territory
you haven't even hit yet.
You get in with these guys,
you'll be rolling in cash
from an entirely new market.
And nothing but exponential growth.
Big word.
You learn that from your fancy school?
Matter of fact, I did.
Studying business.
We're always learning
about untapped markets, so
You sound like an idiot, bro.
Just being honest.
Aw, come on, Kent.
Look, Kent.
You gotta be thinking
expansion, all right?
You always gotta
be thinking steps ahead.
Stop telling me
what I gotta be thinking.
You're really pissing me off,
man, like for real.
Hey, look.
You guys got something
going on between you two.
I don't think either one
of us wanna step on that.
We're not looking for any problems.
Darrell said he ran this by you.
Darrell sent a text message.
Look, hey.
We're not here to play games, all right?
We were told you were looking
for buyers.
We were told you were
looking to meet us.
Nah.
I was just curious
to see what kind of stupid
- he was stepping in now.
- Come on, man.
Your boy has a real flair for that.
So let me try to understand.
You're telling men
little stories about me?
Try to make these dudes like you?
- I'm trying to make you money.
- No, no!
You are all about you, Darrell.
Kent, please
Let me explain to you who this kid is
'cause I don't think
he's who you think he is.
He's some child.
Started coming to a strip club
so he could pretend
he was screwing the women,
pretend he was making friends,
pretend he had a place
in this sorry-ass world,
that he was bad-ass coke dealin' player.
- Come on, Kent.
- Shut up and get out.
Hey, don't do me like that, man.
- I made you a lot of cash
- Get out now!
Hey. Hold up.
All right.
Come on, man.
Hey, your friend lied to you.
I don't deal nothing.
I own a strip club. That's it.
- Look, man, these guys
- Leave!
Okay, okay. We rollin' out, okay?
So just relax. Everybody relax.
Let's do it. Come on.
We can make this work.
I'm trying to tell you
Hey, hey, shut up.
Darrell, just shut up, man.
That man doesn't wanna
work with us, and that's okay.
We understand that.
Thanks for your time, Kent.
Nah, nah, nah. Look.
We can push him, okay?
He does stuff like that all the time.
He wanted to shoot you.
No, no, no, no.
He wouldn't have done that.
Bro, that looked pretty close to me.
Okay, then we let him cool down a bit.
No. We're done.
Look, I need to make this right.
So what do you want me to do?
You want me to beg you?
It doesn't matter what you say, Darrell.
Look, I don't make this right,
I ain't got no family left, okay?
None.
I ain't got no more chances either.
I'm out.
I was supposed to change.
I did. I did change.
This is not who I am.
I made the wrong move.
Darrell, listen. Hey.
Look at me for a second.
It's got nothing to do with you.
It's just too risky.
We need to take a step back.
We'll reassess in the morning.
We just need to slow things down.
Do you understand?
And that'll work?
Maybe. Maybe not.
Either way it goes,
we gotta fall the hell back.
Do you understand me?
[TENSE MUSIC]
- Yeah.
- Come on, man.
Let me drive you home.
[PHONE BUZZING, RINGING]
[CLEARS THROAT]
[SIGHS]
Hello. [SNIFFS]
[CLEARS THROAT]
Yo, Darrell. You there?
[STATIC ON PHONE]
Bro, did you mean to call me?
Did I or did I not tell
your dumb ass to stay away?
Come on. You know I'm right.
We can still fix this.
I'll just look the other way,
- pretend I didn't see anything.
- Too late for all that.
Certain things you can't walk back
What are you doing, Darrell?
What are you doin', man?
Hey. Called the team in
like you asked for.
Voight's on his way.
All-call message is out.
Got a BOLO on Darrell's car.
Let's put an emergency ping
on his phone.
- You got it.
- What's going on?
I've been listening
to Darrell argue with a guy.
It sounds like it's Kent,
but I can't really make out
what they're saying.
Think they must be driving.
All right.
You didn't listen!
Now it's out of my hands.
I got no over what happened.
Where are we at?
Almost got Darrell's phone pinged.
You can talk to him.
Talk to him? [STATIC]
I kept telling Darrell, kept wa
[STATIC, DROP-OUTS]
Do we know what he was doing tonight?
I don't know.
We told him not to do anything.
What the hell is that?
- Nothing.
- No
- [RUSTLING]
- They found his phone.
Hold on.
I got him. 47th and Indiana.
I need to two units
to hold down the perimeter
at 47th and Indiana.
We should be right on top of it.
Darrell?
Darrell!
Got the phone.
What about Darrell?
Nah.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
All right. I'll call Miller.
[SIRENS WAILING]
What's going on? Where's Darrell?
We don't know.
Darrell rang Ruzek around 4:00 a.m.
We're guessing he was
with Kent, was in trouble,
and he wanted Ruzek
to hear what was going on.
What are you saying? He was abducted?
Well, we're still piecing it together,
- but it looks that way.
- [SIGHS]
Ma'am, Darrell texted Kent at 3:17 a.m.
asking to come down to the club to talk.
Kent responded, "Nah. We're done."
We're guessing that Darrell was trying
to get the drug deal back on track.
Well, find Kent. Hit his house now.
Yeah, and get over to that club.
Shut it down.
Seize everything we know
is already there.
Interview everyone.
And pull every camera
within a mile radius of here.
You two get to work on that phone call.
Enhance the audio. Dig out more words.
- We're on it.
- Sam
- Hank.
- We got this.
We'll find your son.
Okay. Okay.
I said keep your mouth shut, Darrell.
You do that, I can help.
You keep talking, I can't.
It's out of my hands.
I'll stay quiet. I will.
I just reacted.
I couldn't just ignore it.
It ain't right.
Okay, do we know
what he's talking about?
- What ain't right?
- The drugs?
Or getting abducted? We don't know.
I told him to get out. He didn't listen.
You picked the wrong night
to get curious,
to start asking questions.
What are you doing?
What the hell is this?
Nothing, no. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
You're dumber than I thought.
After that, the call goes dead.
So our theory is
Darrell went to the club
to get the deal back on track,
and then something happened
Something unexpected.
He saw something he shouldn't have seen,
or he said something
he shouldn't have said,
which prompted Kent
to force him into the car
and bring him to the viaduct,
where an unidentified male shows up.
I'm betting that's Kent's boss.
Till the unidentified male
finds Darrell's phone,
which is an open line to someone,
- and then he smashes it.
- Hey.
We have footage from a building
across the street from the club.
Okay, so this is Darrell
exiting the club with a woman.
- Who the hell is she?
- No idea.
And then Kent shows up. He's not happy.
He shoves Darrell and the woman
inside this SUV.
A few seconds later, this guy shows up.
He looks at Darrell and Kent,
and then hops into a separate SUV
and follows them out.
The unidentified male?
Could be the boss we're looking for.
That's Kent. Looks like him and Darrell
get into an argument about something
Maybe that woman I don't know.
What we do know for certain
is that Kent pushes
Darrell and that woman
into Darrell's car and then drove away.
And have we searched Kent's house?
Yeah, Atwater hit it.
Found nothing, nothing useful.
- And him?
- Okay.
He never faces the camera,
but the plates on the SUV
come back to this guy.
His name is Roy Walton.
But he's been arrested
and released three times
on suspected drug trafficking.
He's gotta be Kent's boss.
And he was involved in the argument?
No.
But it sure as hell looks
like he followed them away.
[KNOCKS]
Sarge, I got something.
20 minutes ago, Roy's SVU was spotted
by a traffic cam on Racine
outside of an autobody shop.
It disappeared.
I figured it went into the garage,
so I ran the address,
and Roy owns the place.
Okay, good. Let's hit it.
Wait, hold on.
What do you mean, "Let's hit it"?
Based on what? What am I missing?
You just said Roy wasn't
involved in the argument.
You don't even have a clear ID on him.
- Where's probable cause?
- I don't have it.
What I do have is a video
of Roy Walton staring at them,
jumping into his SUV,
and following them away.
- Then you have nothing.
- Sam, listen to me.
We don't have a lot of time here.
Your son is in real danger.
With or without a warrant,
we have to hit that body shop.
We can ask forgiveness later.
- No.
- No?
No, you send patrol over there.
Set up containment, get eyes
Listen, that is a bad idea.
These men see
That's all you are able to do.
You don't have proof
that Darrell is in there
or that Roy is even remotely involved.
For God's sakes, Sam.
I get it, but you can't move.
Sam, Sam, stop, stop.
Sam, I am telling you
we have to play
the hand we've got, okay?
You wanna find your son alive,
we gotta move now.
He could be inside that body shop.
They found his phone.
Kay? I'm Roy?
I'm already thinking
he's working with the police.
- Hank, I just told you
- What are you doing?
This is not reform.
This isn't why people are
marching in the street,
why you moved to Chicago to change it.
This is about doing
what needs to be done
to save your kid.
Then you find him
without breaking the damn law.
Sam.
We don't get to rewrite the laws
because it's my kid.
Every victim is somebody's kid.
We do it the right way.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[KNOCKS]
- Get anything?
- No.
No POD footage on either vehicle.
No links to Roy either.
Are we really waiting?
She's the Deputy Sup.
You heard what she said.
I did, but Boss, I mean,
we're just gonna pretend this Roy
That's exactly what we're gonna do.
Boss, Darrell's out there. I know
that you don't think that this is
It doesn't matter what I think, Adam.
- It doesn't matter.
- Sarge.
Our BOLO of the woman in the video
with Darrell just got a hit.
Transit worker saw a woman
matching her description
squeezing through a turnstile
at Jackson seven minutes ago.
Call Platt. Loop in patrol.
We're gonna hit every stop
on the blue line.
Not sure if it's her,
but she looked scared.
Figured I should call.
How many times have come
and gone since she's been here?
A few.
Next one arrives in three minutes.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Hey. You okay?
It's okay. It's okay.
We're the police. We just wanna help.
It's okay.
How old are you?
Do you know this man?
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
He tried to save me.
I'm sorry.
I don't know what they did to him.
[SOBBING] I'm sorry.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Sasha, do you dance at the club?
Do you meet men there?
Roy brings us there.
Okay.
You said that Darrell saw you there,
tried to save you,
and then Kent showed up,
threw you in the car,
and took you guys to the viaduct?
- Yeah.
- Okay.
Then what happened?
- Roy came.
- Okay.
He was really mad.
Found Darrell's cell phone.
He started screaming.
He took Darrell in his car,
and me and Kent, we followed.
Followed them where?
I don't know.
There was a car on the sign.
Like a mechanic.
Autobody shop?
- Did you go inside?
- No.
Roy pulled inside,
but Kent and me waited in the car.
Roy drove back out,
and Kent followed him again.
Where?
To the water.
I got scared.
Kent got out of the car.
And I ran.
You did the right thing.
Okay. You said "the water," right?
Do you remember how long
it took to get there,
what it looked like?
- It was close.
- Okay.
There were these giant brick gates
like a castle.
I think I know what she's talking about.
In the fourth district, there's
a power station near the lake.
Sasha, you're incredibly brave.
You're safe now.
All right. Let's move.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Body!
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Looks like he bled out
Can't be too sure,
but it hasn't been long.
And he was definitely killed elsewhere.
Yeah.
Not a lot of blood near the body,
not for this level of brutality.
All right. Thanks, Mike.
All right.
Sarge, I just talked to patrol.
They hit the autobody shop
five minutes ago.
No sign of Roy, but there
was blood in the bathroom.
A lot of it.
- Darrell was there.
- Yeah.
He took him there,
tortured him, murdered him,
and dumped the body here.
We could have saved him.
All right. Let's get to work.
I want those two men in custody
by end of day.
You hear me? Find 'em.
All right. You and Upton focus on Sasha.
Roy isn't just running one girl.
This is part of his business.
Find out where the hell he's
holding those other children.
[TIRES GRINDING]
All right. She doesn't need an audience.
Not for this. Go to work.
- Where is he?
- Sam Sam, listen to me.
- Hank, where is he?
- It's an active crime scene.
Where's my son?
[GASPS]
[SOBS] Oh, God.
Oh, God.
[SOBBING]
Oh.
My baby.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
[MURMURING]
I don't know the address.
He makes us wear a blindfold
when we leave.
He never lets us outside.
- I don't know.
- That's okay.
Just tell us what you do know,
what you observed when you were there.
Like, is this in the city
or the suburbs?
- City.
- Okay.
That's good. That's a start.
How long does it take to get
to the club by car?
Ten minutes?
Sasha, do you remember
any sights or sounds
like a train or a truck,
maybe a boat horn?
No.
Okay. Um
What about any buildings you saw,
or a factory, billboard?
There's a sign I can see
from the bathroom window.
GC?
I gotcha, I gotcha.
Chicago PD!
[TENSE MUSIC]
- Clear?
- Clear.
Moving.
Jay, we've got a lock.
- You got me?
- Yep.
[OMINOUS MUSIC]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Hey. Tear that place apart.
Roy tortured Darrell to find
out who he was working with.
He must've told him the truth,
that he was working with us.
So they killed the girls.
They're tying up loose ends out there.
You find out where these two hang out,
where they go.
Shut the city down. Close the exits.
We're not letting 'em leave Chicago.
On it, boss.
Sam, we got this.
Are they here?
- Just the girls.
- What girls?
They were trafficking underage kids.
- The girls were inside.
- [SIGHS]
We were too late.
What kind of people
These people
Sam
Darrell was trying
to do the right thing,
to help one of the young girls
being trafficked.
- He saved her.
- Yeah.
You understand me? He saved her.
She's alive.
He was a good man.
He was.
He was a good kid.
But he made so many mistakes, you know?
And I just thought that
he needed to fail and learn.
And here we are.
You should go home.
You gotta take care of yourself now.
Oh.
What am I gonna do there?
Sit alone and plan the funeral?
It's just best to stay busy.
'Cause when the music stops,
well, that's when the pain hits.
At least I mean, that's how it was
for me with my son.
You can say it, Hank.
Say what?
- I killed my son.
- Sam.
And those girls.
Say it.
I was trying to do the right thing,
and I killed him.
Sam, I am so sorry for your loss
Just just
Their names are Kent Darby
and Roy Walton.
Each are wanted on four counts
of sex trafficking,
kidnapping, criminal
sexual abuse of minors,
as well as multiple counts
of drug trafficking
and multiple homicides.
We think they're armed,
and they're gonna try
and leave the state.
If patrol blocks the pathways out,
we hit from within.
We're crashing
every last known we've ID'd
for both Roy and Kent.
Burgess.
We managed to ID seven suspected LKAs
as well as four properties
that Roy and Kent frequent.
Possible stash houses.
Narcotics will accompany us to each.
We have teams of eight.
Each team will hit two locations.
Intelligence will hit the first location
with just their team.
Second location, we pair up.
All right, we're gonna
conduct simultaneous breaches
on our first round of targets.
Zone 6 will be a primary
zone for all traffic.
Make your calls clear and uniform.
Within a block of our target,
our lights go dark.
Street lights go down
as soon as we're in position.
Intelligence member
at the head of the spear.
- We crash on our count.
- Listen to me.
Everybody stay ready,
and we don't gotta get ready.
And we all come right back here tonight.
- Is that clear?
- Clear, sir.
All right. Let's move.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Okay. We play this by the book.
Every place we hit,
we hit with a warrant.
We do pre-surveillance
and an undercover pass
before we hit.
We are not letting
anything get in our way.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Alpha Team in position. Holding.
Team Bravo in position.
Team Charlie in position.
Alpha Team, position to breach.
Bravo Team, permission to breach.
Charlie, David, Edward teams,
permission to breach.
Chicago PD!
Go.
Police! Hands where I can see 'em!
Do not move! I got a runner going left.
Up against the wall!
- Hands!
- Move!
Freeze!
[OVERLAPPING SHOUTING]
On me, on me.
Move right, move right. Go.
- Moving right.
- Move.
Ready?
Do not move!
Put your hands up. Turn around.
Get against the wall.
Let's go. I got one coming out.
Up against the wall.
This is Team Charlie.
Target Two house is
a negative without incident.
Searching the premises now.
Team David, Target Four house
is a negative on targets.
One gun recovered.
This ain't over. Let's go.
Scene secure.
Premises being searched now.
I'm on route to my second location
for an undercover pass,
Target Nine house.
[ENGINE TURNS OVER]
Alpha Team.
Two offenders in custody,
not the targets.
Bulk narcotics recovered.
Location secure.
Team Edward secure.
Individuals in custody.
No offenders on scene.
Team Bravo,
negative on Target One house.
Heading to second location,
Target Nine house.
Copy you, Ruzek.
I'm at the second location.
I'll drop anchor. Narc team's on route.
- Officer?
- [GRUNTS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[BOTH GRUNTING]
.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[WOLF HOWLS]
All right?
I got it.
I told you it was gonna be fine.
You don't have to
You don't have to say that to me, man.
How many times you gonna
tell me the same thing?
- It
- Hey!
You good?
Okay. I got it.
Just just give me a chance,
and I'll figure it out.
[DINNER MUSIC PLAYS]
- Deputy Miller.
- Evening.
I I ordered you a scotch. I guessed.
Oh. You guessed right.
Okay, good.
- [CLEARS THROAT]
- All right.
So what's the occasion?
- Celebration.
- Mm.
Reports are being released
to CompStat tomorrow,
and the numbers are pretty good.
- Hm.
- Huge drop in CRs,
and a corresponding drop in crime.
New Chicago Policing
is finally showing progress.
- Hm.
- And I wanted to thank you.
- Huh.
- For buying in.
Or
We had a cold wave come in.
People stayed inside.
Stopped shooting each other
till it warms back up.
[WHISPERS] Wow.
Is that you a thing or a Chicago thing?
- Hm.
- Waiting for the next storm.
More like an alternative theory thing.
Look I've been down this road before.
- Mm.
- This is how it starts.
Atlanta, Newark;
Reform goes so slow,
you can't even see it
until it's blinding you all at once.
Huh.
- You made it!
- I was bored.
This is Sergeant Hank Voight
who runs the Intelligence Unit
The one I was telling you about
The one who works all the big cases.
Oh, cool.
Hank, this is my son, Darrell.
Oh.
So she talks about me a lot, huh?
- Yeah.
- [LAUGHS]
She thinks it makes her too relatable.
To run a police force, you gotta be more
- than a mere mortal, yeah?
- Mm.
He was living in Atlanta,
and he's been in Chicago for two months.
- [PHONE BUZZING]
- He's going to DePaul.
I hope you don't mind.
I told him to stop by
if he wanted a bite.
No, of course not.
It's nice to meet you.
I gotta grab this. Be right back.
You have a son.
How did I not know that?
He grew up with his father, my ex
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Who, uh
He never lived with me.
He came out here for a change.
Change in Chicago.
Seems to be the thing these days.
[TIRES SQUEALING, HORN BLARING]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[TIRES SQUEALING, HORN BLARING]
[TENSE MUSIC]
Put your hands on the wheel.
Get 'em on the wheel!
Darrell? Get out of the car.
- Nice and slow.
- You got your gun out?
- Jesus.
- It is what it is.
You carrying anything
I should know about, hm?
- Gun, knife?
- Come on, man.
Why are you following me?
- I need your help.
- With what?
"Intelligence Unit," "Sergeant."
My mom told me about you.
I thought maybe you could
The quicker you get to the point.
I owe some people a lot of money.
If I don't pay 'em soon,
they're gonna kill me.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
You have a nice place.
This your kid?
We're around the same age.
Tell me what's going on right now.
I party sometimes up north.
There's these college kids.
[CHUCKLES]
What are you dealing?
Just a little coke.
And a little coke turns
into a lot of money.
How?
Well, these guys,
they say they'll pay me back.
And they do eventually.
I just
I got a little
buried under it with my dealer.
I owe 10K.
Who's your dealer?
His name's Kent Darby.
He owns a strip club.
Practically nobody.
Crap dude.
Why the hell are you here?
Why aren't you telling your mom this?
[LAUGHS]
Have you met her?
[SOFT, TENSE MUSIC]
I messed up, okay?
And this
This will kill her.
Can't you help me without telling her?
[CHUCKLES]
You've got to be kidding me.
Look, Sam, I'm
I'm pretty sure he's thinking
since you're my boss,
I wouldn't want your kid
to get in trouble.
Right. I mean, look.
He's not a bad kid.
Just he's got a gift
for finding trouble.
Sam, you don't have
to explain anything to me.
My son was the same way at his age.
I'm just telling you this 'cause
'Cause it's the right thing to do.
But look, as far as I'm concerned,
we never had this conversation.
How's that?
I'll help him off-book.
- I'm okay.
- I'm not.
I don't wanna use my office in that way.
I want you to help him,
but I want you to treat this
as any other case.
Put him down as a CI,
and I'll take care
of whatever else happens.
Someone we know has been
dealing eight balls
for a small-time dealer
named Kent Darby.
Darby runs coke
out of a strip club he owns
in Logan Square.
Darrell, our CI, he says
it's a small-time operation.
He's the only dealer outside the club.
Most the product
goes directly to customers.
Seems like a little fish.
Why aren't we farming this
out to Narcotics?
Because we know the CI.
His name is Darrell Miller.
As in Deputy Miller?
Her son.
Huh.
All right. So what?
Kid got himself in a little trouble.
This should be easy, okay?
We do a buy-bust.
We give Darrell 10K from
the 1505 funds to pay Kent,
he re-ups, we bust 'em both,
Darrell gets a deal.
Wait, so Sarge,
we're putting Darrell on paper?
It's the way Miller wants to play it.
I can respect that.
Look Darrell's downstairs right now.
Just wire him up and let's get
this thing done quick.
Oh, so this doesn't bother you at all?
What about it?
We're using our badge to help
a cop's kid out of a jam.
We're doing a favor for a cop
who's been good to us.
Exactly. A favor for privilege.
Come on, bro, you know we
wouldn't be working this case
if it wasn't for that kid's last name.
Yo!
Walls are not soundproof in here.
Watch your volume, kay?
- Sorry about that.
- Sorry, Sarge.
- We all set?
- Yes, we are.
Darrell, right?
Yes, sir.
I'm Officer Atwater.
That's Officer Ruzek.
- Thank you, Sarge.
- Mm.
Heard a lot about you.
All right, Darrell.
We're gonna hook you up.
You understand what you gotta do?
Hand off the cash,
get more coke,
wait to be arrested.
Yes, sir.
I know I'm getting a deal.
I do.
And I'm grateful.
But it's also not all I am.
You know, privilege, son of my mom.
I'm not all bad.
I'm sure that's true.
Just like everybody else
that deals dope.
It ain't your fault
you're getting off easy.
So hard to behave
You can be challenged
with a hard game
Shake me to the core
Yo, how you doin', bro? You good?
You all right? Good to see you.
Geez, kid.
Yo, Jay. Darrell's heading your way.
Copy you. I see him.
[CROWD WHOOPING]
Yo, Kent. Where's Lady Jupiter?
I thought she was gonna be here.
I was gonna ask her out.
Heads up, Jay. We got a gun.
Where's the money?
Relax. I got it.
Go ahead. Count.
You know, I told you
when you started, did I not?
You screw up, he'll kill you.
He'll put your ass in the ground.
He. Who's he?
Kent's supplier?
- Heard you then, hear you now.
- I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure you don't hear
a damn thing.
You gonna give me a re-up or not?
This sound right to you?
What do we got?
Jay, hold tight. Something's off.
We both know I move product,
that I make you guys money.
[CHUCKLES]
All right, looks like they're
about to make the exchange.
Copy that.
[MUFFLED MUSIC CONTINUES]
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Who is this dude?
Uh, Jay, Sarge,
looks like we stumbled
into a real case here.
This guy has a lot of product.
I'm talking multiple, multiple kilos,
a half-mil at least.
Yo. What the hell?
I thought y'all were coming in.
Y'all left me there
- like a fool.
- You forgot
- to tell us something?
- What are you talking about?
Darrell, you said this guy
was small-time.
How the hell is that small-time?
Nah, no. I don't know about that.
Sure, you do. Who's he working with?
What's the name of his boss, man?
I don't know.
You don't wanna keep lying
to us, Darrell.
But I'm telling you the truth.
- I just sell eight balls, man.
- You sure about that?
'Cause you just walked us
into a major drug operation.
Now we need to investigate,
find out who Kent's boss is.
- Come on.
- No, Darrell.
It don't work like that.
We don't work for you.
We gotta investigate that weight now,
see where the hell it's coming from.
God.
Shut up and get your ass in the van.
Come on, man.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- I can't believe he told you.
- So look.
What exactly are you moving?
Ounces, kilos?
I told you. Just a couple
of eight balls. That's it.
And I'm supposed to believe that now?
Well, you never believe me.
Why do you think I told
your sergeant instead of you?
You don't wanna hear
I screwed up, that I
No. Of course, I don't.
Because I didn't raise you
You didn't raise me, Ma.
- I am trying to help you.
- Well, then help me!
Look, I'm asking for your help.
So Kent's dealing in bulk, and I'm not.
You know me.
You should know me.
I'm just dealing to some guys
I thought were my friends.
Trying to get in with them
at some school you insisted I go to.
That's it.
I may be stupid,
but I'm not some big-time dealer.
Look, what Kent's got going on,
that's on him.
- It's got nothing to do with me.
- Oh, no.
It's got everything to do with you.
You chose to do this.
You chose this way.
Your office.
- Have you ID'd Kent's source?
- Nope.
He's got no priors, no links
to any big dealers we know.
Mudds and Tolls turned up nothing.
Okay.
Then we gotta build up.
Yeah, but Sam, you understand if
If we run this by the book,
it's gonna roll back on you.
That is a lot of weight.
It is gonna be a big bust.
And I have to bump Darrell up
to Cooperating Defendant,
- and he'll testify.
- I know that.
Well, then you should consider
What don't you understand, Hank?
You think I don't believe what I preach?
I am who I say I am,
who I said I was
since the day I met you.
I think everybody has a line
where principles blur.
Principles don't get to change
when things touch you.
Sam, this would harm no one.
We don't pick and choose.
We have laws, and we serve them.
You had some of the same issues
with your son, right?
So you get it.
I've been here before with him.
Darrell needs to know consequences.
He needs to feel this.
And at this point,
I don't know what else to do.
We pressed Darrell,
but he's sticking to it.
Says he has no idea who Kent
works for, who supplies him.
For what it's worth, I believe him.
Okay.
All right, so what do we have
on the club?
On paper, the place belongs to Kent,
but the money isn't his.
Yeah, the mortgage is paid by an LLC.
So there's this silent partner
that I'm pretty sure
is probably Kent's boss,
and he's the actual owner.
Found no other links between Kent
and a big-time supplier or dealer.
His personal finances,
social media contacts,
LKAs they all look legit.
Whoever our boss is, he's good.
Well, the quickest way for us to ID him
is use what we got, Darrell and Kent.
You two have been working with him.
Get Darrell to intro you guys as buyers.
Best case, we meet the boss in person.
Arrest 'em all in one swoop,
nice and easy.
Hey.
Just make sure you detail every piece
of Darrell's help on book.
I want that kid looking
like a saint, understand me?
You got it, boss.
I mean, that's a lot of territory
you haven't even hit yet.
You get in with these guys,
you'll be rolling in cash
from an entirely new market.
And nothing but exponential growth.
Big word.
You learn that from your fancy school?
Matter of fact, I did.
Studying business.
We're always learning
about untapped markets, so
You sound like an idiot, bro.
Just being honest.
Aw, come on, Kent.
Look, Kent.
You gotta be thinking
expansion, all right?
You always gotta
be thinking steps ahead.
Stop telling me
what I gotta be thinking.
You're really pissing me off,
man, like for real.
Hey, look.
You guys got something
going on between you two.
I don't think either one
of us wanna step on that.
We're not looking for any problems.
Darrell said he ran this by you.
Darrell sent a text message.
Look, hey.
We're not here to play games, all right?
We were told you were looking
for buyers.
We were told you were
looking to meet us.
Nah.
I was just curious
to see what kind of stupid
- he was stepping in now.
- Come on, man.
Your boy has a real flair for that.
So let me try to understand.
You're telling men
little stories about me?
Try to make these dudes like you?
- I'm trying to make you money.
- No, no!
You are all about you, Darrell.
Kent, please
Let me explain to you who this kid is
'cause I don't think
he's who you think he is.
He's some child.
Started coming to a strip club
so he could pretend
he was screwing the women,
pretend he was making friends,
pretend he had a place
in this sorry-ass world,
that he was bad-ass coke dealin' player.
- Come on, Kent.
- Shut up and get out.
Hey, don't do me like that, man.
- I made you a lot of cash
- Get out now!
Hey. Hold up.
All right.
Come on, man.
Hey, your friend lied to you.
I don't deal nothing.
I own a strip club. That's it.
- Look, man, these guys
- Leave!
Okay, okay. We rollin' out, okay?
So just relax. Everybody relax.
Let's do it. Come on.
We can make this work.
I'm trying to tell you
Hey, hey, shut up.
Darrell, just shut up, man.
That man doesn't wanna
work with us, and that's okay.
We understand that.
Thanks for your time, Kent.
Nah, nah, nah. Look.
We can push him, okay?
He does stuff like that all the time.
He wanted to shoot you.
No, no, no, no.
He wouldn't have done that.
Bro, that looked pretty close to me.
Okay, then we let him cool down a bit.
No. We're done.
Look, I need to make this right.
So what do you want me to do?
You want me to beg you?
It doesn't matter what you say, Darrell.
Look, I don't make this right,
I ain't got no family left, okay?
None.
I ain't got no more chances either.
I'm out.
I was supposed to change.
I did. I did change.
This is not who I am.
I made the wrong move.
Darrell, listen. Hey.
Look at me for a second.
It's got nothing to do with you.
It's just too risky.
We need to take a step back.
We'll reassess in the morning.
We just need to slow things down.
Do you understand?
And that'll work?
Maybe. Maybe not.
Either way it goes,
we gotta fall the hell back.
Do you understand me?
[TENSE MUSIC]
- Yeah.
- Come on, man.
Let me drive you home.
[PHONE BUZZING, RINGING]
[CLEARS THROAT]
[SIGHS]
Hello. [SNIFFS]
[CLEARS THROAT]
Yo, Darrell. You there?
[STATIC ON PHONE]
Bro, did you mean to call me?
Did I or did I not tell
your dumb ass to stay away?
Come on. You know I'm right.
We can still fix this.
I'll just look the other way,
- pretend I didn't see anything.
- Too late for all that.
Certain things you can't walk back
What are you doing, Darrell?
What are you doin', man?
Hey. Called the team in
like you asked for.
Voight's on his way.
All-call message is out.
Got a BOLO on Darrell's car.
Let's put an emergency ping
on his phone.
- You got it.
- What's going on?
I've been listening
to Darrell argue with a guy.
It sounds like it's Kent,
but I can't really make out
what they're saying.
Think they must be driving.
All right.
You didn't listen!
Now it's out of my hands.
I got no over what happened.
Where are we at?
Almost got Darrell's phone pinged.
You can talk to him.
Talk to him? [STATIC]
I kept telling Darrell, kept wa
[STATIC, DROP-OUTS]
Do we know what he was doing tonight?
I don't know.
We told him not to do anything.
What the hell is that?
- Nothing.
- No
- [RUSTLING]
- They found his phone.
Hold on.
I got him. 47th and Indiana.
I need to two units
to hold down the perimeter
at 47th and Indiana.
We should be right on top of it.
Darrell?
Darrell!
Got the phone.
What about Darrell?
Nah.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
All right. I'll call Miller.
[SIRENS WAILING]
What's going on? Where's Darrell?
We don't know.
Darrell rang Ruzek around 4:00 a.m.
We're guessing he was
with Kent, was in trouble,
and he wanted Ruzek
to hear what was going on.
What are you saying? He was abducted?
Well, we're still piecing it together,
- but it looks that way.
- [SIGHS]
Ma'am, Darrell texted Kent at 3:17 a.m.
asking to come down to the club to talk.
Kent responded, "Nah. We're done."
We're guessing that Darrell was trying
to get the drug deal back on track.
Well, find Kent. Hit his house now.
Yeah, and get over to that club.
Shut it down.
Seize everything we know
is already there.
Interview everyone.
And pull every camera
within a mile radius of here.
You two get to work on that phone call.
Enhance the audio. Dig out more words.
- We're on it.
- Sam
- Hank.
- We got this.
We'll find your son.
Okay. Okay.
I said keep your mouth shut, Darrell.
You do that, I can help.
You keep talking, I can't.
It's out of my hands.
I'll stay quiet. I will.
I just reacted.
I couldn't just ignore it.
It ain't right.
Okay, do we know
what he's talking about?
- What ain't right?
- The drugs?
Or getting abducted? We don't know.
I told him to get out. He didn't listen.
You picked the wrong night
to get curious,
to start asking questions.
What are you doing?
What the hell is this?
Nothing, no. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
You're dumber than I thought.
After that, the call goes dead.
So our theory is
Darrell went to the club
to get the deal back on track,
and then something happened
Something unexpected.
He saw something he shouldn't have seen,
or he said something
he shouldn't have said,
which prompted Kent
to force him into the car
and bring him to the viaduct,
where an unidentified male shows up.
I'm betting that's Kent's boss.
Till the unidentified male
finds Darrell's phone,
which is an open line to someone,
- and then he smashes it.
- Hey.
We have footage from a building
across the street from the club.
Okay, so this is Darrell
exiting the club with a woman.
- Who the hell is she?
- No idea.
And then Kent shows up. He's not happy.
He shoves Darrell and the woman
inside this SUV.
A few seconds later, this guy shows up.
He looks at Darrell and Kent,
and then hops into a separate SUV
and follows them out.
The unidentified male?
Could be the boss we're looking for.
That's Kent. Looks like him and Darrell
get into an argument about something
Maybe that woman I don't know.
What we do know for certain
is that Kent pushes
Darrell and that woman
into Darrell's car and then drove away.
And have we searched Kent's house?
Yeah, Atwater hit it.
Found nothing, nothing useful.
- And him?
- Okay.
He never faces the camera,
but the plates on the SUV
come back to this guy.
His name is Roy Walton.
But he's been arrested
and released three times
on suspected drug trafficking.
He's gotta be Kent's boss.
And he was involved in the argument?
No.
But it sure as hell looks
like he followed them away.
[KNOCKS]
Sarge, I got something.
20 minutes ago, Roy's SVU was spotted
by a traffic cam on Racine
outside of an autobody shop.
It disappeared.
I figured it went into the garage,
so I ran the address,
and Roy owns the place.
Okay, good. Let's hit it.
Wait, hold on.
What do you mean, "Let's hit it"?
Based on what? What am I missing?
You just said Roy wasn't
involved in the argument.
You don't even have a clear ID on him.
- Where's probable cause?
- I don't have it.
What I do have is a video
of Roy Walton staring at them,
jumping into his SUV,
and following them away.
- Then you have nothing.
- Sam, listen to me.
We don't have a lot of time here.
Your son is in real danger.
With or without a warrant,
we have to hit that body shop.
We can ask forgiveness later.
- No.
- No?
No, you send patrol over there.
Set up containment, get eyes
Listen, that is a bad idea.
These men see
That's all you are able to do.
You don't have proof
that Darrell is in there
or that Roy is even remotely involved.
For God's sakes, Sam.
I get it, but you can't move.
Sam, Sam, stop, stop.
Sam, I am telling you
we have to play
the hand we've got, okay?
You wanna find your son alive,
we gotta move now.
He could be inside that body shop.
They found his phone.
Kay? I'm Roy?
I'm already thinking
he's working with the police.
- Hank, I just told you
- What are you doing?
This is not reform.
This isn't why people are
marching in the street,
why you moved to Chicago to change it.
This is about doing
what needs to be done
to save your kid.
Then you find him
without breaking the damn law.
Sam.
We don't get to rewrite the laws
because it's my kid.
Every victim is somebody's kid.
We do it the right way.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[KNOCKS]
- Get anything?
- No.
No POD footage on either vehicle.
No links to Roy either.
Are we really waiting?
She's the Deputy Sup.
You heard what she said.
I did, but Boss, I mean,
we're just gonna pretend this Roy
That's exactly what we're gonna do.
Boss, Darrell's out there. I know
that you don't think that this is
It doesn't matter what I think, Adam.
- It doesn't matter.
- Sarge.
Our BOLO of the woman in the video
with Darrell just got a hit.
Transit worker saw a woman
matching her description
squeezing through a turnstile
at Jackson seven minutes ago.
Call Platt. Loop in patrol.
We're gonna hit every stop
on the blue line.
Not sure if it's her,
but she looked scared.
Figured I should call.
How many times have come
and gone since she's been here?
A few.
Next one arrives in three minutes.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Hey. You okay?
It's okay. It's okay.
We're the police. We just wanna help.
It's okay.
How old are you?
Do you know this man?
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
He tried to save me.
I'm sorry.
I don't know what they did to him.
[SOBBING] I'm sorry.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Sasha, do you dance at the club?
Do you meet men there?
Roy brings us there.
Okay.
You said that Darrell saw you there,
tried to save you,
and then Kent showed up,
threw you in the car,
and took you guys to the viaduct?
- Yeah.
- Okay.
Then what happened?
- Roy came.
- Okay.
He was really mad.
Found Darrell's cell phone.
He started screaming.
He took Darrell in his car,
and me and Kent, we followed.
Followed them where?
I don't know.
There was a car on the sign.
Like a mechanic.
Autobody shop?
- Did you go inside?
- No.
Roy pulled inside,
but Kent and me waited in the car.
Roy drove back out,
and Kent followed him again.
Where?
To the water.
I got scared.
Kent got out of the car.
And I ran.
You did the right thing.
Okay. You said "the water," right?
Do you remember how long
it took to get there,
what it looked like?
- It was close.
- Okay.
There were these giant brick gates
like a castle.
I think I know what she's talking about.
In the fourth district, there's
a power station near the lake.
Sasha, you're incredibly brave.
You're safe now.
All right. Let's move.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Body!
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Looks like he bled out
Can't be too sure,
but it hasn't been long.
And he was definitely killed elsewhere.
Yeah.
Not a lot of blood near the body,
not for this level of brutality.
All right. Thanks, Mike.
All right.
Sarge, I just talked to patrol.
They hit the autobody shop
five minutes ago.
No sign of Roy, but there
was blood in the bathroom.
A lot of it.
- Darrell was there.
- Yeah.
He took him there,
tortured him, murdered him,
and dumped the body here.
We could have saved him.
All right. Let's get to work.
I want those two men in custody
by end of day.
You hear me? Find 'em.
All right. You and Upton focus on Sasha.
Roy isn't just running one girl.
This is part of his business.
Find out where the hell he's
holding those other children.
[TIRES GRINDING]
All right. She doesn't need an audience.
Not for this. Go to work.
- Where is he?
- Sam Sam, listen to me.
- Hank, where is he?
- It's an active crime scene.
Where's my son?
[GASPS]
[SOBS] Oh, God.
Oh, God.
[SOBBING]
Oh.
My baby.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
[MURMURING]
I don't know the address.
He makes us wear a blindfold
when we leave.
He never lets us outside.
- I don't know.
- That's okay.
Just tell us what you do know,
what you observed when you were there.
Like, is this in the city
or the suburbs?
- City.
- Okay.
That's good. That's a start.
How long does it take to get
to the club by car?
Ten minutes?
Sasha, do you remember
any sights or sounds
like a train or a truck,
maybe a boat horn?
No.
Okay. Um
What about any buildings you saw,
or a factory, billboard?
There's a sign I can see
from the bathroom window.
GC?
I gotcha, I gotcha.
Chicago PD!
[TENSE MUSIC]
- Clear?
- Clear.
Moving.
Jay, we've got a lock.
- You got me?
- Yep.
[OMINOUS MUSIC]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Hey. Tear that place apart.
Roy tortured Darrell to find
out who he was working with.
He must've told him the truth,
that he was working with us.
So they killed the girls.
They're tying up loose ends out there.
You find out where these two hang out,
where they go.
Shut the city down. Close the exits.
We're not letting 'em leave Chicago.
On it, boss.
Sam, we got this.
Are they here?
- Just the girls.
- What girls?
They were trafficking underage kids.
- The girls were inside.
- [SIGHS]
We were too late.
What kind of people
These people
Sam
Darrell was trying
to do the right thing,
to help one of the young girls
being trafficked.
- He saved her.
- Yeah.
You understand me? He saved her.
She's alive.
He was a good man.
He was.
He was a good kid.
But he made so many mistakes, you know?
And I just thought that
he needed to fail and learn.
And here we are.
You should go home.
You gotta take care of yourself now.
Oh.
What am I gonna do there?
Sit alone and plan the funeral?
It's just best to stay busy.
'Cause when the music stops,
well, that's when the pain hits.
At least I mean, that's how it was
for me with my son.
You can say it, Hank.
Say what?
- I killed my son.
- Sam.
And those girls.
Say it.
I was trying to do the right thing,
and I killed him.
Sam, I am so sorry for your loss

Okay. We play this by the book.
Every place we hit,
we hit with a warrant.
We do pre-surveillance

before we hit.
We are not letting
anything get in our way.
