Detective Conley is tracking a potential serial killer suspected of the rape and murder of six young women in and around New York City.
College students, all blonde, all tall, all beautiful.
The killings began just over a year ago in January and continued once a month through March of last year, then the killings stopped.
We assume the killer left New York, we don't assume the killings ended.
And the New York Police Department thinks there could be a connection to the body of that young woman that we found recently out on Ingmarso.
That case matches the profile of the girls that we found in New York.
Found in a field near the water, strangled.
This is the Ingmarso file.
It's your job to escort Detective Conley through a collaborative investigation between the NYPD and the Stockholm PD.
We have a great cop, his name is Svensson, he's fantastic.
You have no authority as a police officer in the city of Stockholm.
Turn in your shield, please.
Now, I assume you don't have a weapon.
[CONLEY.]
No, I don't have a weapon.
Good, you're here only to observe, consult, and advise, is that clear? You came a long way for what could very well just be a coincidence.
I came a long way for a lot more than that.
Two years ago on the first day I went in, two very young, very blonde, very beautiful college students went missing in Stockholm.
One in Sockstund Stocksund.
[SIGHING.]
Whatever.
Those girls were never found, I think our guy abducted them, killed them, and then for whatever reason, job, personal, whatever, he went to New York and started killing girls there.
Now, if we can prove he that he killed that girl out at Ingmar Johansson or whatever the place is called, then he's back and he's not stopping, he likes it too much.
Right, let's find out if there's really a serial killer in Stockholm and, if there is, let's get ahead of it.
Then you two starts with Ingmarso, all right? Good.
[DOOR SLAMMING.]
[TRAFFIC HUMMING.]
- [CONLEY.]
Hey, Mikey - Whatever you do, you don't call me Mikey, okay? All right, what'll I call you? Whatever, not Mikey, just not Mikey.
Okay, no Mikey.
Oh, no, we'll take my car, I've got a rental, give you a chance to look over the case.
I'll be driving, thank you.
- Can't do it.
- You can't do what? I can't let you drive, I'm in the passenger seat I get very, very carsick.
Show me your license.
My license? All right, here you go, New York state license.
That's good.
What's Class D? That means I can drive your Volvo.
Oh, thank you so much.
I keep this, you have this for one second, okay? [BELL RINGING.]
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Right turn at the corner.
- [TIRES SCREECHING.]
- Hey! What's he so mad about? Right turn on red is forbidden by law in Sweden.
Sorry! I'm sorry! Why did you tell me to turn right at the corner? I meant after the light.
It's green, go.
You're gonna have to get a little better at this communicating thing.
I'm sorry, but I thought you could turn right without killing people.
So it's not much on the Ingmarso victim.
We tracked her cellphone, nothing.
No marks, no mutilations.
She was raped and strangled, he used his hands.
Always, same in New York.
She had traces of benzo, benzo Benzodiazepine, yeah, he used a version of benzodiazepine on the girls in New York.
Versid, Hypnovel, Dormicum, it keeps 'em conscious but impairs their ability to fight back.
You got a date on when she was killed? She was reported missing the 21st of December, that's three months ago.
She was found the 26th of January.
She was probably killed the same day or the day after she was reported missing.
Take Essingeleden.
Now you're just making words up.
[EKLUND.]
The ramp.
[TRAFFIC HUMMING.]
[HORN BLARING.]
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Where's the field? [EKLUND.]
We need to go to Ingmarso.
- On a boat? - Unless you're a good swimmer.
- - Hi.
What's up? I get boatsick.
You mean seasick? If I heave my breakfast all over that nice jacket of yours, will it make a difference if I'm boatsick or seasick? [ENGINE REVVING.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
Her body was found there under the trees.
And we have a witness, it's a local drunk.
He heard screams, woke up, then he saw a big guy and a girl.
He thought he was dreaming so he went back to sleep.
The victim's phone and computer were searched by our techs but no suspicious calls, text messages, contacts, emails, or pictures, nothing.
And the questioning of her friends didn't give any clues either.
Hey.
Hey, it's over here.
Hey.
What is it? Flowers.
In America we call 'em asphodels.
Find a shovel, something to dig with.
We're gonna need the ME and forensics.
Oh my God.
What the hell is that? A breathing tube.
[OMINOUS MUSIC.]
He kidnaps a girl, drugs her, buries her with a breathing tube.
It's always in a field full of asphodels, it's always by water.
Then he kidnaps a second girl, rapes her, strangles her, buries her close by.
Then he comes back to the first girl, stuffs the breathing tube full of asphodel stems, cutting off the air supply.
Then he goes back to whatever normal life is for someone like this until he has to do it all over again.
Did you think anything of this was important to tell us at the start? Wasn't important 'til we knew it was our guy.
Everything is important.
I'll keep that in mind.
- [CAMERA CLICKING.]
- [POLICE RADIO CHATTERING.]
How old you make her? 18, 19 maybe.
You got a date on when she was killed? From the look of things, on or about On or about doesn't tell us anything.
When you do your job correctly, you'll find out that she was killed the same date the first girl was found here, December 21st.
The first day of winter in the States.
That doesn't jibe you let us know.
- - First day of winter, how do you know that? It's just thing thing I'm kickin' around.
What? If the two girls we found were killed in December, four more are already missing.
He wouldn't have missed his January-February girls.
You never told us about two girls went missing on the same day.
And two more are coming up, they're never more than 30 days apart.
You're holding things back, pull over, we have to talk this thing out.
When I think it is important, I will pass it along.
I don't like the way you're handling things.
What do you give two shits? You're retiring, happy fucking retirement! [TRUCK HORN BLARING.]
[TIRES SCREECHING.]
[EKLUND SPEAKING SWEDISH.]
I suppose you wanna drive.
[EKLUND.]
That's correct.

I'm on the hunt of an old friend, Jonas Forsberg.
I understand he lives here? [WOMAN ON INTERCOM.]
Yes, he does, come in.
[BUZZER BUZZING.]
Thank you.
[PEACEFUL CLASSICAL MUSIC.]
Ma'am, like I said outside, Tom Hill.
I became friends with Jonas while he was teachin' the young minds at NYU.
Told me I should come visit if I was ever in the Venice of the North.
Beautiful, beautiful country you got here.
So, Jonas around? Yes, this way.
[MEDICAL EQUIPMENT BEEPING.]
My God, it's a terrible thing.
Yeah.
When did this happen? It will be almost a year now.
I know you can't tell, but I'm sure he's happy to see you.
I can feel it.
Sometimes if you shake his hand, he responds.
I'll give you two a moment.
Thank you very much.
[OMINOUS MUSIC.]
[TRAFFIC HUMMING.]
Speak English? Depends.
Somethin' to help me sleep.
Theralen? Something stronger.

[EKLUND.]
They found a body.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
[CONLEY.]
What's her age? [MEDICAL EXAMINER.]
18, same as the other one.
How long she been in there? [MEDICAL EXAMINER.]
Best I can tell, a month give or take.
I'll have more info after the autopsy.
[EKLUND.]
Conley! Hey.
Got his February girls.
I need a minute with you.
Sure.
What's up? Tell me about Persephone and Hades.
What? You're withholding information, I wanna know why and I wanna know everything you know about this case, otherwise I can't help this investigation, you have to be honest! Here's the thing, the only people who ever screw anything up in your life are the people who're tryin' to help.
My last partner help me into lettin' this monster walk away, that won't be happenin' again.
What the fuck are you doin'? Get your fuckin' hands off me! Are you packing? Packing? What, have you been watching Law and Order? Yes or no? What's it to you? It's everything to me because I am a police officer in the city of Stockholm and you're not.
Shove it up your ass.
[CLICKING.]
- Really? - Yeah really.
Careful with that, it was a gift from my ex-girlfriend, nicest thing she ever did for me.
You're under arrest, unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Now, you either tell me everything you know about this case or I will make sure to kick your ass back to New York.
Ooh, is that a heartbeat I felt there, Mikey? Startin' to care again, that's nice to see.
Hey! [FOOTSTEPS FALLING.]
- - All right, so tell us your story and please, this time don't leave anything out.
All right, take a seat.
Last winter, six girls were killed in New York, I was on the trail of the killer from January until March and then suddenly it went cold.
So I started looking around the world to see if I could find any dead girls matching the MO.
Got lucky, found one in Ingmarso.
I assumed a connection, went back two years and found two more girls reporting missing in Sockstund in December.
So the killer is Swedish? I don't know, all I know is that the killer had to be in Sweden December two years ago and he was in New York from January until March.
I feel like he's back in Stockholm now.
Now, he takes the two girls every month of winter.
There's four months of winter, that's eight girls.
That was his MO last year.
There were two girls reported missing in January and the two girl that we found were killed over a month ago which means he's probably looking for his next two girls or he's already found them.
When I started getting interested in the asphodels, I started reading about Hades.
In Greek mythology is Hades is the god of the underworld.
The story goes he kidnapped the Zeus' daughter Persephone, drags her down iton hell where he rapes her for four months.
So the gods sent darkness down on Earth for four months and that became the winter months.
Right, that's why he buries his first girl with the breathing tube.
That one he keeps for his lord and master, Hades.
The second one is for his own sick pleasure.
He rapes her, strangles her, buries her close by, then he goes back to the first girl, stuffs the breathing tube full of asphodel stems, cutting off the air supply.
We got the girls, we got the asphodels, what do you have on the killer? I got a friend at Quantico, he did a profile for me.
So our guy is in his late 30s or early 40s, Caucasian, well-educated, and he's tall.
I started out with 91 names, cut that down almost immediately, I'm now down to two.
And that's based on people being in Stockholm and New York during the killings.
This is Neil Bachman, he's a native New Yorker.
He's a dentist, he has aclinic in Nytorget.
- Nytorget.
- Mm-hmm.
Stefan Sundberg teaches mythology at Stockholm University, he was on sabbatical in New York during the killings.
- - Hang on a second, you gotta speak English, I don't understand Swedish.
You could leave the room for a while while I speak to my detectives.
[CONLEY.]
Jesus Christ.
What's the next step? If the theory is right, the killer is not done yet, so we must stop him before he gets his March girls.
And we need to find the missing girls.
If my theory is right, we'll find these girls close to where they went missing in a field near water with asphodels.
Yeah.
Okay, I want surveillance on these two, dentist and the professor, full background check.
Let's go where these two girls were last seen.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
[CAR HUMMING.]
Now we know.
Now I know.
[TRAFFIC HUMMING.]
