Hi.
-Hey.
Ready for your lesson? - What lesson? -I thought you wanted to learn how to ride a wave runner.
-Well, yeah, I do.
-Well, now's your big chance.
-All right.
Why not? This is so much fun! Hang on! -Whoo! -Whoo! -God, you gotta admit, he's good.
-What, just because he's got a couple of hot shot moves? -No, because he stole Stephanie's sister right out from underneath your nose.
-Thanks, Newmie.
-Okay, you okay? -Okay.
-Nothing fancy now.
Take it nice and slow.
-Okay, okay.
-There's a lot of power under this little boy.
-All right, come on now.
-Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay.
-All right, what do I do? -Whoa! - Wait a minute! - What is it? -Somebody's waist up.
Switch back.
- Come on, come on! - What? Okay! -You ready? Hold on, hold on.
-She's in trouble.
Let's go.
I got you.
It's okay.
-Do me a favor.
Call tower 12 and make sure everybody stays out of the water there, okay? -Okay.
- Hobie.
- Dad! -Come here, man.
What are you doing back here so soon? -I missed ya.
-I missed you, too, man.
-You were right, dad.
You said I'd get over my fear.
I did, at least I hope I did.
Guess I won't know for sure until my first after shock.
Has there been any? -Yeah, yeah, a couple little ones.
Nothing to worry about.
-Hi.
-Hi.
-Hobie talked about you so much, I started missing you myself.
You look great.
-You look good, too.
-Thanks.
-Well, so what are your plans? I mean, can you stay awhile or you gotta rush right back? -Well, after the winter we've had, I was really looking forward to spending a few days on the beach.
-You came to the right place.
-Hey, tell you what.
I'm gonna go get our stuff.
You guys just talk amongst yourselves.
-I was afraid I'd never see him again.
-Oh, listen, a couple weeks in Ohio makes you realize that no matter how much shaking goes on around here, this is still a pretty great place to live.
-Yeah.
-You know, I've been toying with the idea of moving back here myself.
-You have? -Yeah.
Yeah, ever since Ken and I broke up, I don't know, it's just been lonely.
-Yeah, what happened there? I never got the whole story.
-I don't know, after the plane crash, it's just-- everything changed.
You know, it's like he couldn't look me in the eye any more.
He insisted that he still loved me, but we both knew the magic was gone.
-I'm sorry, Gayle, really, I am.
-It just wasn't meant to be.
Anyway, I'm out there again looking for love in all the wrong places.
-Well, you seem pretty happy.
-Yeah, well, that's because of our son.
You know, I'd forgotten what it felt like to be a mother.
It's not going to be easy for me to let him go again.
-You wanted to see me? -Yeah.
What the hell were you doing out there? -Matt, why are you making such a big deal about this? -Because you came within a foot from being crushed by a wave runner.
-A bloke was down in the water.
He needed help.
-You don't jeopardize one life to save another.
You're a lifeguard, you should know that.
-Okay, let's cut the bull.
We both know this isn't about being lifeguards.
It's about her.
You can't stand the fact that Caroline wants to be with me.
It's eating you up.
-Matt, don't be stupid.
Matt! Logan! Stop it, you guys.
Somebody get some help! Please.
-All right, knock it off.
-Come on! -What's going on here? -Don't look at me! -Matt, I want your incident report on my desk before the end of the day.
-This isn't finished! -Caroline? -Yeah? -I'll talk to you later.
-Mitch, maybe you should have a talk with Matt and Logan.
-Ah, I don't know.
I got a better idea.
-Yeah, ship Logan with his butt back to tasmania.
-No.
Assign them dory duty.
-Dory duty.
That is a good idea.
-I come up with one every year and we know how it goes.
No, no, no, no, no.
This was a very bad look for you.
Trust me on that.
Oh, remember that day? Hobie, look at your father.
Can you - believe this? - My gosh.
-Not that i-- I mean, look at, oh, I can't believe.
-What's up with that sky blue suit, dad? That's pretty funny.
-I love that suit.
I still have that suit.
It's in my closest.
People thought that was cool.
-Hobester! - Oh, my gosh.
- You were so cute.
Oh, look at that.
-You were so cute.
You were so cute.
-That's it.
Brings back a lot of memories, huh? -Yeah, you know it kind of makes you wonder why we ever split up.
-Oh, boy, I don't know about you guys, but I am exhausted.
-Well, you're still on eastern time.
It's like almost 3:00 in the morning.
-Oh, yeah.
-Better call it a night, pal.
-Yeah, I think so.
-Do you want me to come up with you? -Mom, I'm 13 years old.
Give me a break.
I can take care of myself.
-Excuse me, I'm still gonna come up and kiss you good night before I go back to the hotel.
-Fine.
Night, mom, night, dad.
- Good night, pal.
- Night, honey.
Seems like old times, doesn't it? -Yeah.
It does.
-You remember when we moved into this house? - Yeah.
-The first night, we still didn't have any furniture.
-Unbelievable.
-And remember, you lit a fire and we ended up sleeping on the floor? - That was nice.
- Yeah.
-That was nice.
-It's nice that we can be close again.
-Yeah.
Yeah, it is.
-Mitch, before when you asked me why I didn't marry Ken, I wasn't completely honest with you.
-What do you mean? -The real reason why I couldn't go through with it was I realized I was still in love with you.
And I know you're probably gonna think I'm crazy but doesn't this feel right? Look, I feel like we've been cheating Hobie and ourselves out of having a real family.
I mean, I think we both know it doesn't get any better than this.
I wanna come home.
Will you take me back? -Do you know how long I've waited for you to say that? -Hey, dad, have you seen my radio? I wanna catch the surf report.
Mom.
-Good morning.
-What are you doing here? -I am fixing you breakfast.
You gotta eat something before you hit the beach.
-You mean you were here all night? -Yes, I was.
-On the couch? -On the floor actually.
-Morning, Hobster.
Did you tell him? -Tell me what? -Your father and I are getting married again.
-For real? -You guys are serious? This isn't a dream? -You think you can handle me being around? -Of course, I can.
I love you! - I love you, too.
Way to go, dad! -Yeah! Infinitely I'm on your side I'll keep you with me 'cause you are you are mine I knew someday we'd find our way back here together again now the skies have cleared I've got all this love to give to you 'cause you're the family that I get to choose I won't let go this time so take your hand in mine infinitely I'm on your side I'll keep you with me 'cause you are you are mine -I'm not quite sure I get the point of this exercise, lieutenant.
-It's not an exercise.
It's cruel and unusual punishment.
-The point is teach you two, macho maniacs, that you're playing for the same team.
The dory is a perfect metaphor for teamwork 'cause it requires two individuals to function as a single unit.
You don't row together, you'll never make it back.
Okay, you got water, emergency gear, radio and each other.
-Well, we couldn't ask for anything more.
All right, good luck, gentlemen, I hope when I see you next, you'll have worked things out.
-Oh, cheer up, mate.
It's not the end of the world.
Who knows, by the time we reach shore, we might be the best of friends.
Stranger things have happened.
-Not in your lifetime.
-Oh, did you discover that you're in love after all these years? That's so romantic.
-I don't know what to say, I'm too stunned.
-What's going on? -Mitch and Gayle are getting married.
-Married again? -Yeah, yeah.
It's pretty hard to believe, huh? -Ah, no, no.
It's great.
Congratulations.
Mmm, thanks.
-Congratulations.
Thanks, Stephanie.
Well, if at first you don't succeed -So, where's the wedding going to be? -Well, the only place we could afford.
The beach.
-Stephanie! Stephanie! Stephanie.
-What is it, C.
J.
? -I just wanted to make sure that you're okay.
-Why wouldn't I be okay? I mean, you know perfectly well that my relationship with Mitch is strictly platonic.
-I also know that deep in your heart, there's always been this little flicker of hope that you and Mitch might-- -well, that flicker went out a long time ago.
Look, I gotta go.
I'll see you later.
-Oh, man! Geez.
-What's the matter? You need a break? -I think I heard something pop.
Ow.
-Yeah, right.
-Afraid you're gonna have to go on without me.
This thunder aches something fierce.
-Cut the crap, Logan.
There's nothing wrong with you.
You might be able to fool Caroline with that phony charm, but not me.
-Are you calling me a liar, mate? -Yeah.
What are you gonna do about it? -Well, there's not much I can do in my condition.
-Okay, guys.
Let's back up a little bit.
That tide is very strong.
Does anybody know what causes the tide to come in? -I do.
The moon.
-Very good, Annie, you're right.
The gravitational pull of the sun and the moon causes the surface level of the ocean to rise and fall.
No, guys, come on! Get out of the water! Boys, look out! Oh, my god! Swim to the rocks! Boys! Swim! Annie! Go to the road to get help, now! -Stop! Stop! -What's wrong? -There's some kids that fell in the water and they can't get out.
-Where are they? -Code three, victims stranded on the rocks at Leo creila, all available units respond immediately.
-We're the only ones who can get there from the water.
The scarab can't get through the rocks.
-How far is it? -Just around the point.
-Come on, let's go.
-I thought you couldn't row.
-I'll live with the pain, come on.
No more wankering off, let's go.
-There they are.
Full speed ahead.
-Hold on.
Take the can.
-Just be careful when we get to the rocks.
We don't want to hit the victims.
Help me get them aboard.
-Logan, here.
Up you go.
That a boy.
-Logan.
-Okay, let me have him, lieutenant.
-It's okay.
- Come on.
- It's okay.
-Yeah! Gonna hit the water, see ya! Like father, like son.
You know, my biggest regret is that I missed watching Hobie grow up.
-Come on, now.
You still got a ways to go.
- Yeah.
- There's a chance.
-So, how would you feel about having another one? -I like trying.
-Trying is never our problem.
But you know, this time's gotta be different, Mitch.
We can't afford to repeat the same mistakes.
-You mean like deserting you on our anniversary to make a body search, right? That sort of thing? -Yeah, you know, I still haven't completely forgiven you for that.
I mean, you left me at the most expensive restaurant in Malibu without a purse, and I had to borrow money from that guy to pay the check.
-Wait a second, as I recall, I was not the only one who put career above marriage.
-I know, I know.
I was as guilty as you were.
That's why I'm saying that this time I really want us to put our family first, okay? -No problem.
-What are you doing? -I'm kissing her.
-The groom is not allowed to see the bride the day of the wedding.
It's bad luck.
Gayle, get in.
-Maybe I better try and make myself presentable.
-Come on.
-See you soon.
-Bad, bad luck.
Easy with it.
-Okay, I got it.
There we go.
-Nice.
Careful, guys, go slow or you're gonna munch the cake.
-Allow me.
You look smashing.
-Thank you.
-Oh, you, too, lieutenant.
Shall we? -No offense, but your sister's got lousy taste in men.
-Matt.
-I don't care what you saw at Leo creila.
I still say he's not fit to be a lifeguard.
-Oh, yeah? Why not? -Because he's lazy, reckless, irresponsible.
You can't believe a word he says.
Plus, I don't like working with a guy who's only out for himself.
-Well, I don't know about the last part.
He's recommended you for the medal of valor.
-What? -You wanna-- I don't remember being this nervous the last time.
You having second thoughts? -No, no, I'm not.
It's just that you know, there's a lot more at stake the second time around.
Theres A bit more pressure to get it right.
-Well, if anybody can handle the pressure, my friend, it's you.
Ah, look, C.
J.
asked me to double as an Usher, so you better give me that ring now.
-The ring.
-The ring.
-Oh! The ring, the ring.
The ring.
The ring.
You know this is the same ring I gave Gayle on our first wedding day.
-I thought she gave it back to you when you split.
-No, actually, she threw it at me.
Hit me right in between the eyes.
- Ouch.
-I never bring myself to get rid of it.
-That is because you are a sentimental fool, buddy.
-Yeah.
-But this time, it paid off.
Good luck, my friend.
-Thanks.
-See you at the alter.
- Yeah.
-Hey, you look great.
- Hey.
Thanks.
So, do you.
-I just came by to pick up my beeper and to wish you good luck.
-Thank you.
-Your tie is crooked.
-Um -I'll fix it.
-Okay.
I'm a mess.
-Look, I hope you don't take this the wrong way or anything, I mean, we've been friends for a long time and you know that I only want what's best for you, but This is happening so fast, you know? You're not usually this impulsive.
Are you sure you've really thought this thing out? I know, I'm sorry.
-No, no, it's a perfectly legitimate question.
-No, it isn't.
I should just keep my big mouth shut-- -the truth is I haven't completely thought it out.
It's just that sometimes you just gotta go on your instincts.
-You always had good instincts.
-Thanks for looking out for me.
Come here.
All the warmth of the sun is in you magnifying everything I feel like the light breaking through the shadows you're all I see you're everything all the colors in the sky above you illuminating everything I see all I've ever wanted is to hold you you're all I see you're everything [you're all I see.]
You're all I see you're everything [you're all I see.]
Every time I see you, it's like a brand new day my heart is racing but time stands still every time I need you, you know just what to say you're bringing out the best part of me now our love is here to stay in the harder times we will always find our way cause your love shines on me you're all I see you're everything you're all I see you're everything Is that better? That's great.
-Have you got something? -Danny! We got more than bait in the sack! We're gonna have to use the wretch! What is it? -I don't know.
-Oh, my god.
It's an old mine! It's coming at the boat! Cut it loose! -It's not stopping! -And so as you pledge your love to each other and to your family and friends, remember, like the waves that wash away the footprints in the sand, the words you speak today, may soon be forgotten, but the commitment that you make in your heart is eternal.
Mitch and Gayle, you're living proof of the everlasting power of love and it's a privilege to be a part of your reunion.
Now having said that, let's get on with the good stuff.
-Yes.
-If the best man will present the ring.
-You kept it all these years.
God.
-I hope it still fits.
-Place the ring upon her finger and repeat after me.
I, Mitchell Buchannon.
-I, Mitchell Buchannon.
Take-- -what's going on? -Ah That's headquarters.
Something's up.
-Mitch, let them take care of it.
You're getting married.
-Mitch, we gotta call it in.
-Look, the phone's right here.
It'll just take a second.
Just a second.
John, it's Mitch.
What's going on? Wait a minute, slow down.
Yeah, okay, I got it.
Tell him we're on our way.
Fishing boat's going down over palace verdis.
45 people on board.
Let's go! Mitch.
-Gayle, I'm sorry, but I can't do this now.
-Can you stick around for awhile? -Under the circumstances, yes.
-I'll be back as soon as I can.
I love you! -Help me! He can't swim! He's disabled! -This is Buchannon on scarab one.
We're looking at a lot of smoke and flame.
Make sure we get a fire boat out here right away.
-Jimmy! The cabin house is on fire! Everybody, get off the boat! Come on! Get off! -Help! Help! -Get everybody off, now! Go! It's gonna blow! -There! -Help! Help! Help me, help my husband! He can't swim! Somebody help my husband! - I got you! - Somebody help! -You're all right.
We'll get your husband.
Someone will get your husband.
You're all right.
He can't swim! -Help! Help! -Here! Take my hand.
Help, help! Henry! -You're all right.
-Okay, okay.
Take this.
Grab my hand.
Okay.
-Keep going.
Go, go.
Nice work.
Come on, let's go.
I got a wedding to get back to.
Where's Gayle? -She took a walk down the beach.
-Thanks.
Gayle? Come on, let's go back.
-I can't.
-What do you mean you can't? -Talk about deja vu.
That was just like our anniversary.
-What was I supposed to do? -Exactly what you did do.
Mitch, that's who you are.
I had forgotten that you never go off duty.
You're a lifeguard 24 hours a day and there's nothing I can do about it.
-Yeah, there is.
You could accept it.
I thought you had.
-Yeah, well, I thought I had too.
-I love you.
-I love you.
I just think that we're-- we got a little ahead of ourselves.
-Gayle, we walk away from this now, we could regret this for the rest of our lives.
-I'm sorry, Mitch.
-Just leave me alone.
-I know, I know, pal.
I'm sorry.
You just keep getting caught in the middle.
-I should've never got my hopes up.
I knew it was too good to be true.
-Did your mom talk to you before she left? -Yeah.
-Did she tell you why she changed her mind? It doesn't mean she doesn't love you any less.
-I just don't get it.
How can you come so close and then have it all blow up in your face? -I don't know, pal.
If I had the answer to that one, save us all a lot of pain.
I know one thing.
When your dreams are shattered, there's only one thing to do.
Pick up the pieces and start building a new one.
Let's go home.
-All right.
Whoa.
Did you feel that? My first aftershock.
-Welcome home? -Yeah.
