Homecoming

1 - Some people stand in the darkness afraid to step into the light some people need to have somebody when the edge of surrender's in sight don't you worry it's gonna be all right 'cause I'm always ready I won't let you out of my sight I'll be ready, I'll be ready whenever you fear, oh, don't you fear I'll be ready forever and always I'm always here 'Cause I'm always ready I won't let you out of my sight I'll be ready, I'll be ready whenever you fear, oh, don't you fear I'll be ready forever and always I'm always here -She's not gonna come sailing up to the beach, you know.
-Yeah, I know.
I just can't wait for her to come home.
Gonna have to.
-Hey! Hey, wait a minute.
What is that supposed to mean? -She called me and said that she and Riley were stopping off at one of the channel islands for one more evening of romantic adventure.
-Well, that's just great.
I mean, she's already been to Fiji.
She's already been to the solomons.
She's been halfway around the world, how much more adventure does she need? -Caroline, I think romantic is the keyword in that phrase.
Don't worry, they'll be here tomorrow morning at ten o'clock.
-Yeah well, I guess one more day can't hurt.
Great.
You know, we can be back on Tonga in a week.
I'm serious.
-We'll talk, okay.
Promise.
Riley? -Huh? -Riley, look.
Over there.
-Looks like oil smoke.
-We'd better check it out.
Are you okay? What happened? -My boat caught fire.
I had to beach it to save my supplies.
-Looks like that's all you're gonna save.
-Yeah, I know.
Thank goodness you're here, I was afraid I was gonna be stranded.
Are you okay? -Yeah, yeah.
Thanks.
By the way, I'm coral Whitman.
- Riley Ferguson.
- Hi.
Stephanie Holden.
-Hi.
-Hi, Stephanie.
-Can we give you a lift? -Yeah, that would be great.
-What were you doing here? -I'm with marine ecology at uc San Diego.
I was gathering samples around the channel islands.
I don't know, it just, poof.
What about you guys? -We were just diving for our dinner.
Hey look, would you like to join us? -Yeah.
Yeah, okay.
That would be great, I'll supply the firewood.
-Great.
-Hey! -Hey! He stole my bike! Somebody stop him! He stole my bike! -Brad, are you okay? He went that way! Go get him! -Two victims off the seal beach pier, tower six.
-I got him! -Where am I? Who are you? -Katherine Fleming.
No, no, no.
Rest a minute.
-I'm fine.
My name's Garner Ellerbee.
-Pleased to meet you, officer Ellerbee.
I'm afraid your assailant got away.
-I'll find him.
And, call me Garner.
-Whoa, you'd better take it easy for the rest of the day.
Let me take you up to my tower.
-Ah, what a baby.
Mitch, buddy.
-Aren't you a little old to be joining junior lifeguards? -Ah, never too old, Mitch.
Say, buddy, what can you tell me about a lifeguard named Katherine Fleming? -Almost nothing, except that she's 26 years old, single, a certified paramedic, gorgeous and in incredible shape.
Why? -Oh, nothing, just glad to see another lifeguard with a permanent tan.
-Oh, this is purely an equal opportunity thing.
-Heh, cute.
-And, all things being equal.
-I'd like the opportunity to show her how exciting the beach can be at night.
She dating anybody? -Not that I know of.
But there is one thing.
-What's that? -She's deaf in her right ear.
Happened during a rescue.
We only talk into her left ear.
-Yeah, right.
-No, left.
-Right.
Left.
-Right.
-Right? - No, left.
-Left? -Right.
-Got it.
-Good.
- Okay.
-All right.
The die has been cast.
That was delicious, thank you.
You're welcome.
-Makes me kind of sad, though.
Out of the three channel islands, this is the only one that's not polluted.
-Yeah, it is sad.
-It's criminal.
-You got that right.
The ocean is definitely a lady under attack.
-The ocean's always been male to me.
A man's power, embrace.
His mortality.
-Mortality? -I was in Alaska after the exxon valdez.
Have you ever held a seagull covered with oil? Felt its heart pounding with fear.
-Well, it is easy to forget how fragile our world is.
-No one listens, Stephanie.
No one cares.
-There are a lot of people out there like you, coral.
-Yeah, then they're asleep.
And they'll need a desperate wake-up call.
Just listen to me, would you.
I'm sorry, I am just completely maxed out.
-You know, I think a little rest would do us all some good.
You can stay with the fire if you want, coral.
Stephanie and I can bed down on the boat.
-No, that's ridiculous.
You can stay here.
It's way more romantic.
-I'll just get my things and find a spot down the beach.
-No, coral, you can't.
-Don't worry about me.
You lovebirds have a special evening.
Good night.
-Katherine.
-Hi, Garner.
-Bye, Garner.
-It's been a long time since someone saved my life.
-So now you belong to me, right? -Ah, no, no.
-I was hoping for something a little more original.
-How about this? I know a place where the steaks are so fine, the cows line up to jump on the grill.
-Scout's honor? -Well, I never was scout, baby, but I am always prepared.
-Um, I don't ordinarily eat meat, but I might make an exception tonight.
I'll meet you in the parking lot in about five minutes? Okay? -I'll be there.
Mitch.
Hey, Katherine.
-Can I ask you about Garner? Yeah, what do you need to know? Well, he's awfully nice but he's a little-- -a little odd, perhaps? - I hate to say it, but yes.
-Step over here.
It's his hearing.
-His hearing? -Yeah, it happened four years ago, a kidnap situation, Garner wrenched a gun away from the victim's head, nearly took the blast himself.
Bam! Went off right by his right ear.
-My goodness.
-Yeah.
You know, cops like Garner, they come along once in a generation.
The city gave him this beach, you know.
The peaceful duty, the sun, sand and the surf in humble gratitude.
-Oh, Mitch, what can I do? -Well, I think you should do what we do.
We talk only into his left ear.
-I won't forget.
- Okay.
- All right, take care.
Okay.
-I love matchmaking.
-Okay, short stuff.
A lifelong honeymoon every night spent under a different exotic sky.
-I don't know, Riley.
I don't know if I'm built for that.
I need work.
-I have survey contracts all over the south pacific.
-That's your work.
I mean my work.
I just love the action on the beach.
-And I love you.
Look, I know you have questions about us, but love isn't just two people looking at each other's stuff.
It's two people looking in the same direction.
I mean, there's a whole world out there waiting, and it's waiting just for us.
-Riley, i-- -hey, hey.
I'm just asking you to consider it.
Will you? -Coral! That's our boat! Coral! Stephanie.
-Coral, what are you doing? -You said you'd give me a lift, so I thought I'd move my supplies.
I didn't want to wake you.
I was just gonna take her closer to campsite.
Pick you both up.
Honest, Stephanie.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What are you doing? -I just want to see what's inside these cases.
-They're just my supplies.
-Well, then you won't mind if I take a look.
-No.
Of course not.
Why should I mind? -Stephanie! -Any word from Stephanie? -No, not a word.
- She's two hours late.
I mean, I set my watch by this woman.
Something's wrong.
Explosives? -Grancia, I'm going on my workout.
Hi.
Hey.
-I was just thinking about you.
-Thinking what exactly? -That maybe you need to workout more.
-Excuse me? -You're very good looking.
But you don't want to get too soft.
-Soft? My lady, I'll have you know this body can lift more weight than any muscle man you can dig up.
-Great upper body.
But what about this? -Ow! Hey, hey, hey! -What's the matter? You can't get away? Oh, I didn't mean to embarrass you.
-I'm not embarrassed.
Under this lies solid muscle.
-Then why do you cover it up? -Because I like to eat.
It's one of life's great pleasures.
-It's not the best.
-What is the best? -If you get in shape, maybe you'll find out.
-How long's your break? -An hour.
-Come with me.
-Where are we going? -To get out of these clothes and experience real pleasure.
- Oh run away with me let's get lost in a fantasy satisfy our wildest dreams in a sweet release your eyes light a fire deep inside of me I'm filled with desire and your love's what I need I'm craving you got me in the mood yeah we're living in a fantasy every day I want you here with me yeah we're living in our wildest dreams got me in the mood cuz I really wanna lose control and I really want your body and soul it's the only thing I've ever known got me in the mood that you got me got me in the mood -Any word from Stephanie yet? -Still no word.
- This is Baywatch headquarters, I'm trying to reach lieutenant Stephanie Holden on the white lady.
Stephanie? Do you read me? -Mitch.
Mitch? What are you doing! -What I have to do.
People are expecting us.
-They're gonna be looking for Riley and me, you know.
-That doesn't matter.
-See? They're looking for us now.
-Mitch! -What was that? -Stephanie? Stephanie, do you read me? I want a scarab ready in five minutes.
-Baywatch to scarab one, come in please.
-No one's gonna find you.
And no one's gonna find this boat.
All they're gonna find is tiny little ashes soaked in oil.
-Look, coral.
Untie me, okay? We can talk about this.
-There's nothing to talk about.
-You're making a bomb with enough plastique to blow up a whole city block, and there's nothing to talk about? -I am through talking.
Talking gets you nowhere.
-And neither does violence.
-Violence gets people's attention.
It's the exclamation point at the end of the sentence.
It gives the words you say impact.
Now they're gonna have to listen.
-Look, coral, I'm sure the motives you have are just, okay? I know the system is frustrating, but this is not the answer.
-The system.
-What system, Stephanie? What about the ecosystem? What about the solar system? Are we gonna wait until they destroy that before we take action? -What action, coral? What are you planning to do? -Show the greedy polluters of the world what one determined woman can do.
And you or no one else is going to stop me.
-Here! Over here! She said she was a marine ecologist here gathering samples.
But I found that in the boat.
-You sure Stephanie didn't go with her voluntarily? -And leave me here? No way.
Now look, check this out, I found this map.
Now she circled the area off the coast of San Pedro.
What's in there? -That's the largest oil platform in Southern California.
Baby, I am gonna pump you up.
-Whoa, whoa.
Wait, wait, wait.
-Hey, you have got to change your diet.
Cut out the fat and the red meat.
-I'm in love with a fitness maniac.
-I am not a maniac.
-Wait a minute, you heard that? -Of course I heard that.
-But i-- you're not deaf in your left ear? -Deaf? Me? No! Mitch told me you were deaf.
-Mitch? Oh boy, I'm gonna get him for this one.
-I'll never forgive myself if anything happens to her.
-Stephanie can take care of herself.
-Yeah, I know, she doesn't need anyone, that's her problem.
-Took you two months at sea to find that out? -Yeah.
She said she loves me, but doesn't know if she wants to spend the rest of her life with me.
A million gallons of oil sucked out of the ocean floor everyday.
It's gonna light up the sky.
-And destroy everything that you want to protect.
-It's a sacrifice for the greater good.
-What about me, am I being sacrificed too? -I'm sorry, Stephanie.
But every war has its casualties.
-You'll die too.
-No, I'll have left on the dinghy before you crash into the platform.
Someone has to sail the boat.
-Well, unlike people, nature is dependable.
See, I have positioned us so that when I raise the sail, the wind and the current will just take you straight into the platform.
Should take about three short minutes.
And this will give me enough time to do what I have left to do.
-Look, coral, don't do this.
-I was willing to sacrifice my own life.
And then fate destroyed my boat and brought me to yours, so don't blame me.
This is your fate.
And the fate of everyone on that oil rig.
-There's coral! -You see Stephanie? -No.
-All right, take the wheel.
-I'll go, I know the boat.
-No, I know explosives.
-I'll go after coral.
-Not yet.
Steph? -Mitch.
-You all right? - Yes.
-Look, she's rigged explosives to a timer.
And we've got to get the boat off course before it runs into the oil rig.
-No, she's jammed the wheel and locked the boat on auto-pilot on course.
I'm gonna have to disarm the bomb.
Look, Riley's on the scarab.
Go on, get out of here.
-No, I'm staying with you.
-Look, there's nothing you can do here.
Go on.
-I watched her activate the bomb, I can help.
-Do me a favor, there's a flashlight in the pouch, grab it.
And point in that hole right there.
-How bad is it? -It's a nightmare.
There's enough plastique in there to bring down a battleship.
And this is the biggest detonator, I have seen since I was a Navy seal.
-Can you just remove the whole bomb? -I'll find out.
What is that? -She's got a magnetic trigger attached to the metal plate.
There's no way the two can be separated.
So what do we do now? -Go up on deck, see if you can change course at least to head us away from the rig.
I'm gonna try and detach the detonator from the explosives.
-Steph! Steph! You're heading right into the rig.
-Riley, turn us! -What? -Turn us, push us off course! -Hang on! -One more.
Oh god.
I'm coming out with the detonator.
Mitch, hurry! Look.
Ah, she wants to clean up hazardous waste? Let's start with her.
It's all over, coral.
It's over.
Oh, I've missed you so much.
I missed you too.
I didn't know how much I missed being here until I thought I might never make it back.
-Well, you'd better not go away again.
Not any time soon.
-I'll be back.
-Well, where are you going? -In a minute.
Hey.
Hey.
It's not like you to be off by yourself.
-Just watching how much everyone loves you.
-I love you, you know that, don't you? You could stay here, you know.
Be a part of my world.
-Wouldn't work.
-Love isn't two people looking at each other.
It's two people looking in the same direction.
You won't stay away forever, will you? -How could I? -Stephanie told Riley that she's staying here.
-Pardon me? -I said that Stephanie told Riley that she's gonna stay here.
-What? -Stephanie told Riley that she is going to stay here.
-Why are we whispering? -Because Katherine and Garner said that-- -Katherine and Garner what? Katherine and Garner told me that your ears were hypersensitive since the explosion, and you couldn't tolerate loud noises.
-Touche.
-It's not over yet.
-What? What? -What'd you say? Oh, god.
