Earth: Final Conflict s03e07 Episode Script

A Little Bit Of Heaven

Previously on Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict: Humans sometimes do not appreciate their children as much as they should.
Coming from a race which no longer bears children, I find this particularly sad.
I that why you take kids away from their parents? You are indispensable to our survival.
Oh, if I'm so damn indispensable, why not let me in on the great mystery?! Liam is part human and part of an alien proto species called the Kimera.
There were vestigial organs in my hands called Shaqarava, but the longer I'm on Earth, the more human I become.
When did you first begin keeping secrets from me? While you were still my Protector, or only since you have allied yourself with Zo'or? You had to become infatuated with her? - I wasn't infatuated.
- What do you call it? We wiped all the other memories clean and dumped them.
But you just couldn't let this one go, couldn't you? I said I wasn’t infatuated.
We both have fault for letting her get away.
I know.
I wasn't being fair.
It's all right.
We're only human, right? Axarion They have come to Earth with the promise of peace.
An alien race called the Taelons.
But, there are those who resist these Alien Companions.
For the Taelons' true mission, the secrets they hide will forever alter our world.
The fate of humanity now relies on those who dare challenge the future of Earth.
Meet Jane Doe.
They found her wandering naked near Union portal station, suffering from traumatic amnesia.
First we thought we had a drug casualty, but after I examined her I came up with a different conclusion.
According to her blood work, she was 3 months pregnant, but she's no longer carrying the child.
No trace of miscarriage or surgery of any kind? Right.
Take a look at this.
Traces of radiation identified as those derived from the Taelon interdimensional travel were found in the uterus.
And that's why I called you.
An unborn child disappears from a womb, with evidence that indicates the use of ID technology to remove the fetus? Are we talking about using ID technology for surgery? It seems like a possibility, but it is way beyond anything we got.
Even in the planning stage.
I need you to keep a lid on this while I look into it.
Absolutely.
I'll download this to your global.
I also need you to be ready to move on a moment's notice.
You call, I'll drop whatever I'm doing.
- I'll keep you posted.
- Great.
Renee, if you're not too busy, could you meet me at your office? See you in 10.
Well? How's that? Now you've completed the connection they're all in suspended animation.
You almost think that number three looked lonely.
It'd be nice now and them to have a friend.
I'm your friend.
You're my brother.
I still think we're gonna need more blood.
This all sounds too familiar.
A few years back, the Taelons shanghaied interdimensional travelers to their moon base for genetic research on human guinea pigs.
Now it looks like they're using the ID technology to steal unborn children.
Plan to talk to Da'an? Da'an and I may still have the same goals, but we have very different paths to get there.
So, I'd like to know a little more about all of this before I see him.
Are you gonna hit the Portal Authority in the morning? I'll cross-check with their records to see if the girl got here by portal and from where.
Well, maybe you and Da'an have issues, but I know one Taelon I can work with.
Zo'or.
- Good to see you.
- Miss Palmer.
Were we not meant to meet next week? Yes.
And I wanna thank you for adjusting your schedule.
I've been so encouraged by my R&D department of Nanorobotic Research that I didn't want to wait another week to share it with you.
This is actually millions of tiny nanorobots size of bacteria.
Which I programmed for you as a little gift.
My engineers tell me that Taelon scientists are reviving your human genetic research project.
I must say I'm fascinated by this concept.
Using interdimensional technology for non-invasive surgery.
Synergizing Taelon organics with human nanotechnology is clearly the next logical step for our co-ventures.
Fascinating.
- Will this retain its shape permanently? - Absolutely.
And speaking of other applications for nanorobotics I am delighted at your enthusiasm for what you call synergy, Miss Palmer.
But until I have been more fully briefed by my own technical staff, I hesitate to discuss this any further.
You understand? Of course.
But I hope that when you are ready, we'll be able to work together on this.
- For our mutual benefit.
- Absolutely.
Good day.
Typical human incompetence.
I was hoping I could get Zo'or to open up on this interdimensional surgery, but he didn't reveal a thing.
- I have a theory you may not like.
- What's that? I got the strangest feeling that Zo'or is as in the dark on this one as we are.
What makes you say that? Just his reaction.
I got the sense he was vamping as much as I was.
What are you doing? Experimenting with the nanorobots programming.
What did you find? Jane Doe did travel by portal form, get this, Taelonville, Indiana.
I beg your pardon, I'm looking for Sheriff Highland.
You're looking at him.
Major Liam Kincaid, Companion Protector.
Good to meet you, sir.
Please, have a seat.
Thank you.
What brings you to Taelonville, sir? Fieldwork on an ongoing criminal investigation, which actually leads here.
Well, that'd be hard to believe.
Well, it's just that I know everyone in town.
If not for an occasional speeding ticket, I wouldn't have a thing to do.
I'll need to do some checking around here and I could use your help.
Well, I'd be glad to be of service, Major.
As you can see, I'm not really swamped at the moment.
You ever read this stuff? Can't say I have.
I'm trying to sell a series of my own.
It's about the adventures of a Companion Protector.
You showing up now is a lucky break for me.
I got a ton of research questions about Protector procedure.
Apparently, Renee Palmer is convinced I'm orchestrating some covert operation involving interdimensional technology.
And I have no idea what she is talking about.
It is inconceivable that such an operation could occur without my knowledge.
I am unaware of it myself.
When Miss Palmer calls again, might I suggest to keep the dialog going, so that we may find out what she knows, or what she thinks she knows.
When did I become one of your informants, Agent Sandoval? Have any Companion been here recently? Not since the cleanup.
But, of course, they're always welcome.
If not for the Companions, this place would be a ghost town.
We used to be called Silent Falls.
So we became the American Chernobyl.
When the local nuclear power plant melted down, the radiation killed half the town immediately, and doomed the rest.
And then the miracle happened.
Da'an came here just after the Companions arrived on Earth.
And cleaned all the damage from the meltdown.
But the real miracle, so many lives they saved.
No wonder all of you voted to rename the town after the Taelons.
Now I guarantee you one thing, there's not a Resistance cell in the miles.
But if you pardon me saying, Major, I think you're wasting your time here.
Why is that? Take a look around, we're virtually crime free here.
I understand, Sheriff, but we both have jobs to do.
Does she look familiar to you? Sorry, Major, never saw her before.
I suppose you wanna show that around though.
Well, I know the best place in town to start.
Major Liam Kincaid, Companion Protector.
Miss Carrie Drake.
I'm thrilled to meet you, Major.
I followed your career ever since you joined Da'an.
Carrie, the Major and I will have lunch at my usual table, where we can talk about my book.
- If that's okay with you.
- Sure.
Terrific.
I'll see you both later.
- You're here for a little R&R, Major? - Not quite, Miss Drake.
I was wondering whether you might be able to identify this girl.
I sure can't, sir.
What's she done, some kind of anti-Taelon activity? No, nothing like that.
- Sorry I couldn't be more help.
- Thanks, I appreciate it.
I don't mean to pry, Major, but we're so rarely get celebrities here.
What's Da'an really like? What you see is what you get.
The public and private Da'an are pretty much the same.
I knew it.
And Zo'or? Zo'or's a bit more complex.
Miss Palmer came to see Zo'or this morning about interdimensional technology being used for non-invasive surgery.
- You are certain of this, Agent Sandoval? - Absolutely, Da'an.
I must see Zo'or immediately.
- What are you doing, Agent Sandoval? - I mean no disrespect, Da'an, but I recommend prudence in sharing your knowledge with Zo'or.
Prudence? Discretion may be in your best interest.
Your star has fallen as a member of the Synod.
It might be wise to use the fact that you know more of this situation than Zo'or to your advantage.
Perhaps, you and I should consider this issue before we meet with Zo'or, so that you can best assist in our discussion.
And eventually, what I'd like to do with my series of books - Hi, kids.
- Sheriff Highland.
- Hi, Sheriff, how are you? - Just great, thanks, just great.
Ah, Major Liam Kincaid, Steve and Belle Hartley.
- The Companion Protector? - It's terrific to meet you, sir.
I'd like to serve as a Companion Protector myself someday.
Terrific.
Oh, hey, listen, I've got a picture I'd like you to take a look at.
Does she look familiar to either of you? I don't know her.
How about you? Oh, no, no.
Sorry, Major.
Is she some kind of terrorist? No, nothing like that.
Again, wonderful to meet you, sir.
That goes double for me.
Thank you.
Great kids.
And the perfect example of the miracle of Taelonville.
You know, their mother and father both died from radiation poisoning, but the Companions medical treatment helped save the kids.
So, this place is information center.
If they haven't heard it here, there's nothing to hear.
I knew he'd be trouble.
But he serves Da'an.
Da'an.
Never forget.
It was Da'an who threw us out in the cold because we didn't live up to his expectations.
I know.
I know, but I feel connected to Major Kincaid in some other way, as if he were closer to us than to these others.
No.
We have to stay focused.
Okay? You're just going through the same thing that you accused me of letting when that girl got away.
- No, it's deeper than that.
- It's not.
Don't you think I want the same thing that you do? Love and affection? Human contact.
Renee Palmer knows more about Taelon business than I do.
This is unacceptable, Da'an.
I am responsible and I will rectify the situation.
I am listening.
One of my first missions, when we came to Earth, was the rescue of Silent Falls, Indiana.
A town which had suffered a nuclear disaster.
- I know all of this.
- What you do not know is that the medical treatment I provided applied interdimensional technology in the first attempt to create a Taelon-Human hybrid.
Belle and Steven Hartley were my only successes.
But neither of them displayed any qualities justifying any further pursuit.
So, I abandoned the project.
Apparently the project was never informed of your abandonment.
It seems I may have been premature in my assumption of failure.
These two might very well have developed the attributes to enable us to defend and to triumph against the coming Jaridian invasion.
Oh, hi, how are - Major.
Major, isn't it just horrible? - We just heard about poor Carrie.
So, does that mean that you're gonna be helping Sheriff Highland with the investigation? I don't know, the sheriff is the authority here.
If you two will excuse me.
I found her when I came in for my afternoon coffee.
We also found these things in her desk.
Now, according to the driver's license, it all belongs to that girl in in your global.
The one you're investigating.
Any idea who might have done this? Or why she'd be involved in the crime in the first place? Not a clue, Major.
Well, we're just starting the investigation.
We're not even sure what the murder weapon was yet.
I'm here to help in any way I can.
Thanks, Major, I'll keep that in mind.
Arrested? - For what? - Believe me, Renee, it's a long story.
- I'll be there with help asap.
- Asap isn't soon enough.
You're making a big mistake here, Sheriff.
Mistake? Carrie's blood was on your pants.
- It was planted.
- Not to mention she was killed by a particle beam, just like your standard issue sidearm.
Which also happens to be the only one around.
I'm being framed.
Yeah? Well, you tell that to the judge and jury, Major.
And look at it this way, now you got plenty of time to read my book.
This is Sheriff Robert Highland of Taelonville, Indiana.
I need to speak to Da'an regarding my arrest of Major Liam Kincaid on charge of murder.
Perfect.
That's it.
What's wrong? I seem to have been weakened, my Shaqarava is just not reaching its full power.
It worked.
We passed the Taelon energy of our Shaqaravas into the protoplasm.
There's no way I could've done that alone.
How did it feel? Killing Carrie with your Shaqarava I mean.
.
Well It wasn't something I liked doing.
But we both know it was necessary.
You had the hard part.
All I had to do was to get Carrie's blood on Kincaid's pants while he wasn't looking.
You know I hated doing that to Major Kincaid.
We discussed this.
The only way to proceed was to frame the Protector.
It seems Major Kincaid is on a journey parallel to our own, Agent Sandoval.
Clearly, whatever it was that brought him to Taelonville must be the work of our test subjects.
When should I leave, Da'an? It is better to let things take their own course while convince Zo'or of this program's value.
Then I suggest I leave for Taelonville immediately.
Agent Sandoval, I have taken your wise council and followed it.
Please, grant me the same courtesy.
Absolutely, Da'an.
I am waiting, Da'an.
This project may be our best hope for synergy - Between Taelons and humans.
- Synergy? That is precisely the phrase Renee Palmer used.
You may seek synergy.
I seek dominion.
Miss Palmer's zeal would be an enormous help in implementing our plans on a wide scale.
Okay, Major, you got a visitor.
Sorry, Liam, I came as soon as I could.
Could we have few minutes alone, Sheriff? Not a chance.
Sit tight, I'll get you out of here in no time.
What, did you bring a lawyer? No, I brought something better than any lawyer.
All right, that's enough.
Trust me, honey.
It won't be long.
Whatever you say.
Well, I wouldn't be getting Major's hopes up.
What's that supposed to mean? It means he's not going anywhere.
I've already called the embassy.
I've told Da'an exactly what's going on here.
Really? Well, the last time I looked, we still had a criminal justice system of our own.
I don't know how you got out, Major, but you ought to know better than thinking you can get away with this.
I don't want to have to hurt you, pal.
I strongly suggest you move over to the cell.
And handcuff yourself to those bars.
You're making a big mistake, Major.
That took you long enough.
What are you waiting for? - Oh, for a kiss maybe.
- Cute.
Just don't get used to it.
Okay.
These nanorobots are programmed to locate any ID technology in town.
What about the portal? Specific frequency.
I already covered it in the programming.
Okay, it will take a while.
Highland called the embassy.
We better move.
I have come to a decision.
Despite your subterfuge, I see the value in your plan.
I am willing to pursue this idea of joining humans and Taelons.
Thank you, Zo'or.
I still do not believe that a Taelon-human meld is a wise move, let alone, possible.
But since my goal is to better understand the human psyche, this seems like a reasonable means to achieve this greater understanding, and to better facilitate the bio-engineering of the human species for our common needs.
I believe you will be surprised at what could be achieved by the hybrid melding of our two species.
I doubt that, Da'an.
But it is the safest way to examine these possibilities without allowing humanity pollute our gene pool.
Thank you, Zo'or.
For both your wisdom and your pragmatism.
Now, we've got the town surrounded, so there's no way Kincaid and his girlfriend can get through.
Now, listen, you take the north and the main, you cover the south.
I prefer to take them alive.
But if they put up any kind of fight, shoot to kill.
We got it.
The nanorobots have found the ID technology just on the edge of town.
It's clear.
Good.
Let's go.
You wanted to see me, Da'an? Yes, Agent Sandoval.
Is there a problem? Problem? I think not.
Your words of council were extremely useful, Sandoval Agent.
Zo'or has agreed to support this project.
One more step I'll kill them all.
Put the gun down! - I swear I'll use this.
- Steven, don't.
How did you do this? Welcome to the future.
We're the perfect blend of human and Taelon.
And what is this? Some sort of surrogate mother? No.
It provides nourishment for the infants until they're ready to take the next step in their evolutionary development.
You used interdimensional surgery to remove the babies from their mothers? And then the Taelon technology to accelerate their growth.
Belle, you can't let your brother to do this to these babies.
Don't listen to him, Belle, he's just trying to divide us.
This is all wrong, Belle.
Can't you see that? The Taelons betrayed you.
- Shut up! - You are the victim here.
Victim? We have been given the greatest gift we could've ever asked for.
Freeze, Kincaid.
- You okay? - Yeah.
Go on, she's got the baby.
Stop her, before she gets to the portal.
Go.
The kids killed Carrie.
I'm going after the girl.
It's over, Belle.
There's nowhere to run.
This is an external implant restraint for violent prisoners.
It should keep him docile.
What they've done here is nothing short of incredible.
Synthesized human tissue melded with the Taelon energy cord to create a surrogate mother that's both human and Taelon.
How are the children? Well, they seem perfectly normal, but who can say? Well, if Dr.
Parker's Jane Doe haven't escaped, Steve and Belle might've get away with this.
The question is what happens to these babies now? Well, I got a feeling that's out of our hands.
What does that mean? I had a call from your Companion.
Da'an? He's sending Volunteers to collect the infants and the technology for safekeeping.
In fact, I'd say that's probably them now.
At least, these kids are safe now, right? Yeah, all but one, Highland.
Still one child out there.
We have reached the mutual understanding regarding our respected goals, Liam.
But from this point onward, I must be apprised of your actions at all times.
I always live up to my obligations as your Protector, Da'an.
But I'm always going to put humanity interests first.
Do you understand, Major, that I could have you relieved of your duties and your position at any time? But then I wouldn't be here to fulfill the destiny of our two species.
As you so often point out.
There is a limit to my patience.
Same here, Da'an.
The Hartley children were saved from the certain death, and given the opportunity to climb another rung on the evolutionary ladder.
Opportunity? As if they were given a choice.
Any progress in the search for Belle or the missing child? We're doing everything we possibly can, but as of this moment there's no progress to report.
The FBI were to do as good a job tracking her down as they do protecting the Taelons, the world would be a safer place.
It appears that you and the major no longer enjoy the closeness you once did.
Perhaps, other relationships would develop to ease the burden of loss.
You have something to report, Agent Sandoval? More than report, Da'an.
A demonstration that the FBI is, perhaps, more effective than Major Kincaid will ever know.
I am very impressed, Agent Sandoval, thank you.
But as for you, Belle, how could you behave in such a manner? Endangering yourselves and and my legacy so recklessly.
- I'm sorry, Da'an.
- Why did you not come to me? It was you who abandoned us in the first place.
You are right, Belle.
I was mistaken.
But if we are to work together, this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.
Is that clear? I understand.
And one more thing.
The Shaqarava.
It is a wonderful gift.
It must be used wisely.
I promise, Da'an.
