This Land is Your Land

1 Previously on AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" Ofelia? She's alive, Daniel.
In a few hours, this place is gonna be obliterated.
No, no, no.
(GRUNTING) Aaah! I was the one who wasn't supposed to die.
- Oh, my God.
- We got find a way to save everyone you tried to kill.
(ZOMBIES GROWLING) (INFECTED SNARLING, BANGING DOORS) (PEOPLE COUGHING) (SIGHS) - MAN: I got you.
- (GROANING) - You okay? - I'm okay.
- (INFECTED POUNDING DOORS) - (ALICIA BREATHING HEAVILY) Okay.
MAN: Mom? Mom? Someone turn on the goddamn air! My wife where's my wife? I don't (SIGHS) OFELIA: Alicia.
Hey, Alicia.
We've got a problem.
There's nothing coming through.
This place is sealed.
And it wasn't designed to house this many.
There must be another way of getting air in here.
That vent is the only way.
Without that We run out of air.
(CAR DOOR CLOSES) (INFECTED SNARLING IN DISTANCE) No time for that, Troy.
- (ZIPPER ZIPS) - Gotta leave him.
He was better than us.
That's why he's gone.
The good, they don't survive in this world.
- Only killers - NICK: Shut up, Troy.
Your brother's dead because you brought a horde down on us.
So, why don't you quit jerking off about the tragedy of it and help me do what Jake would've done or those people are gonna die.
And if they do die, it's not because they were too good for this world, it's because we failed.
BLAKE: The shaft runs all the way up past the barn.
How long will it take dragging on our knees and elbows? About an hour to get there to clear the blockage.
OFELIA: Right.
Plus we need an hour back.
There might not be enough air down here to last.
We have maybe two hours before the carbon dioxide kills us.
Okay.
So, we move, right? An hour to the end that's best-case scenario? Unless lack of oxygen slows us up.
(SIGHS) We need to even the odds.
- OFELIA: It's this or nothing.
- It's not worth the risk.
- What other options do we have? - ALICIA: No, it's not.
We can we can buy some time.
Fewer people, less carbon dioxide.
We put down the bitten.
- (QUIET CHATTERING) - (WOMAN COUGHING) CRAZY DOG: No one will admit it.
OFELIA: It's just a matter of time before they show symptoms.
We need to strip everyone down and search them for bites.
OFELIA: They're not prisoners.
You can't force them.
Okay, look, we're all in this together.
Then we're gonna die together.
OFELIA: Hey, Alicia.
Why don't we have the bitten go clean out the vents? We can't send someone sick.
If they die in there, it'll just make everything worse.
Well, that settles it.
No, wait! (WHISPERS) They'll riot.
They'll kill you for trying to kill them.
They're already dead.
(PEOPLE CHATTING QUIETLY) Everyone? I I know you're scared.
- We're all scared.
- (COUGHS) We don't know what's going to happen out there and we're less sure what's going to happen here, but, uh, this is what we do know.
The vent is broken.
The only airway we have is blocked.
Which means if we can't fix it, we suffocate.
(ALL MURMURING) Right now, the enemy is not what's out there, it's actually time.
And the more of us there are, the less time we have.
MAN: What do we do? We've gotta do something.
So, we're asking for those of you who have been bitten to come forward.
(WOMAN COUGHING) (WOMAN COUGHING) - I guess we do it the hard way.
- (CLICKS) Stop.
(WOMAN GASPS) No.
Baby, no.
It's okay.
(WOMAN SOBBING) Don't do this.
We don't know! - (INFECTED SNARLING) - NICK: Anyone alive's in the pantry.
It's where they were headed.
Locked themselves in.
All right, so we drive through the dead to get to them.
There's too many.
We need to create a way through them or draw them away.
Okay, we MOAB this shit.
We stored the fuel from the depot over on the other side of the ranch.
We get to the gas, we torch it, and we make a break for the pantry.
Distract them at least.
If it's between that or do nothing (EXHALES) it's gotta be that.
(CLICKS) Sure you're gonna be okay down here? Sure you're gonna be okay up there? Let's get this over with.
Triage painkiller.
The dose will knock you out.
(WOMAN COUGHS) And then what? Then you'll be taken care of.
There's not enough ammunition to shoot us all.
You're gonna stab us? (WHIMPERING) (SHUDDERS) Maybe we should, uh, wait this out a bit longer.
Dax, you're not gonna survive what's in your blood now.
You know, I don't feel so bad.
Maybe the bite didn't go that deep.
BLAKE: You're feeling it, Stan.
I can see.
I need more time.
Just one more hour.
- We don't have an hour.
- This isn't how it's supposed to end.
- My son needs me.
- Enough.
It's morphine.
It's the best goddamn feeling in the world.
You'll be in heaven before you get there.
I'll go.
(PEOPLE CRYING, COUGHING) (EXHALES) You ready? Yes.
(SQUIRTS) (SIGHS) (BREATHING HEAVILY) - (SHUDDERING BREATH) - (FLESH SQUELCHES) (HEAVY BREATHING) (PANTING) (CRYING) Here.
I know it's hell.
But those people have done their part.
You need to do yours.
They need you.
They need you because you're strong.
Don't break on them now.
(WIND HOWLING) (INFECTED SNARLING IN DISTANCE) TROY: We'll create a scene and get to the stable, blow the fuel reserve.
All right, be ready.
(SNARLING) (GRENADE LAUNCHER CLICKS) - (ENGINE STARTS) - All right, drive.
- Oh! (LAUGHS) - Shit! (GROWLING) Holy shit, man.
Come on, come on, run, run.
(INFECTED SNARLING) (BODY THUDS) Come on, come on! (LAUGHS) - Ah, shit.
- (LAUGHING) BLAKE: Come on.
Just give me a minute.
It's time.
Alicia, we need to do this now.
(CRYING) I'm sorry for what I did.
For all those people.
I'm sorry.
(SOBBING) It's okay.
It's gonna be okay.
(MORPHINE SQUIRTS) (EXHALING) (PEOPLE WHISPERING) (WHISPERING CONTINUES) (GRUNTS) Shit! - CRAZY DOG: What? - There's a drop.
Okay, we're gonna have to turn around and go down feet first, okay? (SNIFFLES) (GRUNTING) (BOTH GRUNTING) - (METAL CREAKING) - (STRAINING) (PANTING) (STRAINING, PANTING) More.
(SCREAMS) - God damn it, gah! - Lee.
- (SHOUTING) - Hey! - (PANTING) - Hey.
Stop, you're gonna hyperventilate.
Listen to me.
Listen to me.
I need you to breathe, okay? Inhale, two, three, four.
Exhale, two, three, four.
Come on, do it with me.
Inhale.
- One, two, three, four.
- (BREATHING SLOWS) (MAN COUGHING) I shouldn't have brought them here.
You know, my husband was in the first Tower when it fell.
I tried calling his cell over and over.
I must've called it a thousand times.
Because then there was a chance.
A chance I might hear him again.
(SNIFFLES) Even when you're hopeless, hope is all you have.
You've given us a few precious hours.
There's no shame in that.
I met my second husband at a support group for the families.
Jerry was a paramedic.
First responder.
(LAUGHS) God, he used to make me laugh.
They have to make you laugh.
I mean, good sex and all that, sure, but if they're not funny, forget it.
(CHUCKLES) What brought you here? Jerry was convinced that the Towers falling was the beginning of the end.
And I started to believe him.
So, when we heard about Otto and the ranch, it just felt like a perfect fit.
You were right.
(CHUCKLES) Were we? I'm not sure.
We spent our last years hiding from the world when we could've been out there exploring it.
Promise me you'll never make decisions based on fear.
That hasn't happened in a while.
I didn't think it'd be a problem.
- Sorry.
- No need to apologize.
You were in Iraq, right? Yeah.
There was stuff my dad saw.
It haunted him until the very end.
I guess that's the price you pay.
(SIGHS) Part of it at least.
I lost it once.
In front of my son.
He was terrified of me.
That was one of the last times I saw him.
He was living with his mom when everything went to (SIGHS) I wasn't there to save him.
You ready to do this? (SIGHS) Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Ripping my bra off at Woodstock.
Pink's with Dad after school.
CHRISTINE: Bridge jumping in Montana.
(LAUGHS) "This Land is Your Land" at Camp Big Cove.
(CHRISTINE INHALES) - Drinking wine in Central Park.
- (LAUGHING) Sun on your face, just lying there.
(LAUGHING) That amusing, huh? No, no, it's just stupid.
We were at this summer camp up in the Sierras.
I was nine.
And there was this performance on the last day.
Talent show.
The whole camp watched.
And I was supposed to sing "This Land is Your Land.
" So, I get up on stage and the music starts.
One of the counselors playing on a Casio.
(CHUCKLES) And I freeze.
I I can't remember a single word.
And I'm standing there staring out at the audience when I see Nick's face, looking at me in horror like he's living it with me or something.
So, he runs up on stage but then he forgets everything, too.
So, he just starts blasting, This land is your land, this land is your land This land is your land over and over.
(LAUGHING) Like, after, like, the 20th time, he he takes this giant bow and everyone applauds.
(CHUCKLES) It was a standing ovation.
Everybody loved Nick.
You're close, you and your brother? When we were kids.
But it changed.
I really looked up to him when I was young.
More than anyone.
More than my dad, even.
No.
Christine.
Christine, wake up.
Christine.
Hey, Christine.
Christine.
No.
The air in here.
The air no.
(PANTING) No.
No.
No.
(PANTING) (INFECTED GROWLING) All right.
- You know what you're doing, Nick? - No idea.
How do you turn the rotors on? It's that one.
It's that one there! Nick.
- Here? - That's it.
(WHIRRING) - All right! - Yeah! (POWERS DOWN) Of all the places to die, Nick, huh? No, you're not dying here 'cause I'm not dying here.
TROY: This is it, Nick! - This is it.
- (INFECTED SNARLING) This land is your land This land is my land From California To New York Island From redwood forest Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and (PANTING) - (BUCKET CLATTERS) - Hey.
(SNARLING) (GRUNTS) (PANTING) (SNARLING) (BOTH PANTING) - (PANTING) - (INFECTED SNARLING) (SNARLING) - OFELIA: There it is.
- (GRUNTS) Help me up there.
Okay.
(GRUNTS) - OFELIA: Almost there.
- (INFECTED SNARLING) - (COCKS GUN) - Ofelia.
(GRUNTS) (SCREAMING) - (SNARLING) - (SCREAMING) (GUN COCKS) - (HIGH-PITCHED RINGING) - (MUFFLED SOUND ECHOING) (FAN WHIRRING) (GASPS) Come on.
(GRUNTS) (AIR WHOOSHING) (GASPS) (MUNCHING) - (GRUNTS) - (GROWLING) (GRUNTS) (SNARLING) Christine.
(GRUNTS) (GRUNTS) (PANTING) (INFECTED SNARLING) (SNARLING) (SNARLING) Come on.
(CLICKS) (INFECTED GROWLS) TROY: This is it! I saved one bullet.
It's you or me.
You choose.
- Go on.
- (EXPLOSION) (EXPLOSION) (INFECTED SNARLING) (GUN CLICKING) (GRUNTS) (GRUNTS) (GUNSHOTS) Alicia, we're here.
Come on.
- Mom? - VICTOR: We don't have much time.
- (PANTING) - Alicia? - (GUNSHOT) - We gotta go.
- (INFECTED GROWLING) - (GUN COCKS) (GUNSHOTS) They're here.
We gotta go.
(GUNFIRE CONTINUES) (GUNFIRE CONTINUES) WALKER: Madison, we gotta go.
If we don't go now, we'll be trapped in here.
She's coming.
Come on.
I'm sorry.
(FLESH SQUELCHES) (GUNFIRE CONTINUES) (INSECTS CHIRPING) MADISON: It could've worked.
It really could've worked.
So you got to the fuel reserves before we did.
There was enough to make an impact.
And then some.
We have enough fuel to get us where we need to go.
Where's that? Make the trading post by nightfall, supply up.
Dam by morning.
MADISON: Did you tell her? WALKER: She's still in shock.
Tell me what? Ofelia, your father He's alive, Ofelia.
He's alive.
He's asked us to bring you to him.
It's true.
I saw him myself.
- He thought you were dead.
- (CRYING) He's desperate to see you.
(WHISPERS) Thank you.
We need to move.
The explosion's already attracting more.
(CHATTERING) (KISSES) Where's Jake? (SIGHS) (CRYING) How? - NICK: He was trying to stop this.
- How? TROY: He got bit.
I put him down.
Where'd the horde come from? Troy, uh saw it coming, came to warn us, but it was too late.
We're leaving soon.
- We found Daniel at the dam.
- Stop.
Just It's safe, it's supplied.
Stop pretending any place is safe.
It's not.
We keep searching for something that doesn't exist.
We kill for it and die for it.
- Alicia.
- You know better than anyone.
- Don't say otherwise.
- Kind of short on options.
It doesn't mean I have to choose that! The dam has water and walls.
- It's the best we're gonna get.
- WALKER: We should go.
While there's still sunlight.
Where's the dam? - MADISON: What? - Show me on a map.
It's close.
We're gonna be there by morning.
No.
I'm not going.
Alicia, look, you're in shock, okay? What you've just been through? - I can't even ima - No, I'm not.
I'm not in shock.
I'm seeing things more clearly now than I ever have.
Your way doesn't work.
It won't ever work.
- And I can't do it anymore.
- We're safer together.
We die as quickly together as we do apart.
I need to find a way to live for myself.
And I can't do that running in fear.
I can't do that with any of you.
I can't just let you walk I'm not asking you, Mom.
I'm telling you.
You can't force me on that truck.
With rations, a weapon, I can survive.
You know I can.
- Where would you go? - Jake showed me a place.
I'll show you where it is.
But I need to go there alone.
(ENGINE STARTS) Why don't I follow her, make sure she gets where she's going? No, I can't lose both of you.
Think of it as a scout.
We'll see what else might be out there.
You'll know she's safe, and I'll meet you back at the dam.
You're not losing anyone.
Take Troy.
Walker won't want him with us.
He's a fighter.
You might need him.
Promise me you'll come back.
Yeah.
("This Land is Your Land" playing) (CAR DOOR OPENS, CLOSES) (CAR DEPARTS) I roamed and rambled And I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts All around me A voice was sounding This land was made for you and me When the sun comes shining Then I was strolling And the wheat fields waving And the dust clouds rolling The voice was chanting As the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me This land is your land And this land is my land From California To the New York Island From redwood forest To the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me When the sun comes shining Then I was strolling And the wheat fields waving And the dust clouds rolling The voice come chanting And the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me.
