My mom died saving me.
Saving Nick, saving everyone.
Because you led Mel and Ennis to the place we built.
Because you lied to us.
[VOICE BREAKING.]
And then you shot my brother.
And I watched him bleed to death.
And I cou I couldn't do anything but watch him die Watch him realize he was going to die.
And it didn't happen fast.
He was aware.
He was in pain.
He knew you did it.
He knew the person he tried to save killed him.
And maybe that made him feel like his life didn't mean anything.
I can't send you out there.
But if you're in this house with me, then I'll probably kill you.
I don't know if I want to kill you.
I just know I probably will.
I'm trying to be like my mom.
I'm trying to believe what she believed, Do what she did.
Because that's all I have left of her.
[CRYING.]
That's the only thing that keeps her alive.
And if I k if I kill you [NORMAL VOICE.]
I won't let you take that away from me again.
You may be a kid, Charlie.
But you know what you did.
And that makes you garbage.
It makes you a waste of a person.
[CRYING SOFTLY.]
Worse than something stumbling around out there tearing into people.
See, I hope you live to a ripe old age so you have to remember what you did.
What you did, who you are, and how you can never, ever make up for it.
[CRYING SOFTLY.]
[GRUNTS.]

[WALKERS GROWLING.]
We're making too much noise.
Get inside.
[GROWLING CONTINUES.]
ALICIA: We'll try again later.
When there's a break in the storm.
When the dead start to clear out.
[METAL CLANKING.]
[GROWLING CONTINUES.]
[GROWLING CONTINUES.]
Give me your coat.
I'm trying to do the right thing here.
Once I get this started, I can use the fire to dry it.
[SIGHS.]
Give me your coat.
Then you can go upstairs.
Give me your coat.
Give me your coat! Is this the same gun you [GUN COCKS.]
I told you you couldn't be here.
I told you I didn't want to be around you.
Did you come here to kill me? Is that it? Get me before I could get you? Oh, you expect me to believe that? Get out of here.
Go.
[RATTLING.]
[CLATTERING.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
I'm sorry.
I'm trying.
[WALKERS GROWLING.]
[WALKER GROWLING.]
[WIND HOWLS.]
[WINDOW SHUTTER OPENS.]
[WALKER GROWLING.]
ALICIA: Charlie! [WALKER GROWLING.]
[WALKERS GROWLING.]
This wasn't for me, was it? It was for you.
Everyone's telling me all the reasons to keep going.
But I think you and I both know that's not the deal.
There are no good reasons.
I think you might've had the right idea.
But that doesn't mean I'm gonna let you do it.
Why did you save me? Was it because you wanted me to live with it? What I did? I don't know.
But, yeah, you're gonna have to live with it.
You don't get off the hook that easy.
What did you think I was gonna say? I saved you because I "see something in you"? Because I forgive you for what you did to my family? I'm not gonna say that.
It's not true.
I can't help you.
So whatever it is you're looking for, you're not gonna get it.
Not from me.
You have to live with what you've done.
Just like I have.
Even if all that's waiting for you on the other end is being out on that porch just like them.
How long do you think this storm is gonna last? Hell if I know.
I'm from California.
[SIGHS.]
Get up.
We're gonna eat.
[THUNDER RUMBLING.]
[WIND HOWLING.]
Did you live near a beach? Hm? No.
You said you were from California.
It's a big state.
I lived close enough.
What was it like? What does it matter, Charlie? It doesn't.
You've never been, have you? To California? To the beach.
I was supposed to go to Galveston with my mom and dad.
We had it all planned.
Well, they did.
We were gonna spend the day on the beach.
Go to the boardwalk at night.
Maybe even go on a roller coaster at the end of the pier.
But then everything changed.
And We all missed out on things, Charlie.
Sometimes, when I'm reading, I just like to close my eyes and try to see what I just read about.
But I haven't been able to find any books about Galveston.
The last time I was at a beach, it was just like everywhere else filled with the dead.
Just another place that kept you running.
Go get some sleep.
[THUNDER RUMBLES.]
[CLATTERING NOISE.]
ALICIA: Charlie? Charlie? - You can't be in here.
- No.
- Get up.
- No.
No.
Someone might come back for them.
- Someone might try to find them.
- Who? - Who? - CHARLIE: Someone.
Anyone who gave a shit about these people - is dead.
- You don't know that.
Look, I'm not trying to make up for what I did.
Okay? I know that I can't.
I know I'm garbage.
But I'm doing this.
Do whatever you want.
It's not gonna make you feel better about any of it.
[THUNDER RUMBLES.]
[WIND HOWLING.]
[THUNDER RUMBLES.]
[WIND HOWLING.]
CHARLIE: The wind's getting stronger.
Charlie Charlie, look I know what you're trying to do.
No one's gone until they're gone.
I've been trying to believe it, too, to feel better about what I've done, but I can't.
Because sometimes when you're gone, you're just gone.
Okay? And these people are definitely gone.
[WIND HOWLING.]
These pictures aren't gonna change that.
[THUNDER RUMBLING.]
Why do you care? [GLASS SHATTERS.]
[WIND GUSTING.]
[HOUSE CREAKS.]
The basement.
Come on.
[WATER RUSHES.]
[GASPS, COUGHS.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
ALICIA: [COUGHS.]
We're not getting out, are we? Not through there.
What do we do? There.
ALICIA: That's our way out.
[METAL DOOR RATTLING.]
[GRUNTING.]
[SCREAMS.]
[DOOR CLANGING.]
[GROANS.]
[EXHALES SHARPLY.]
[GRUNTING.]
Charlie.
Over here.
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
We're just gonna have to wait it out.
We'll get out.
[THUMPING.]
I don't want to die.
I know.
I don't want to become one of them.
I saw my parents after they turned.
I didn't think it was real.
And they came back.
[THUMPING.]
Like that.
I'm sorry.
I try to remember what they looked like before, but I can't.
[VOICE BREAKING.]
I just can't.
[NORMAL VOICE.]
I wish I had a picture of them.
Do you still have the gun? No.
No.
I I can't.
I can't.
[CRYING.]
No, Alicia.
I just I I can't end up like them.
I can't.
I don't want to end up like them.
I can't.
Your mom, your brother, they're all gone - Stop it.
- Because of me.
- Stop it.
- I took the away from you.
Charlie! No.
I'm not doing it.
We're not gonna make it.
We're gonna make it out.
We're going to make it out.
- We're not.
And you know that.
- We are.
We're [SOBBING.]
We won't! You know that! So please just do it.
Just do it.
I I know that you want to.
I can't end up like them.
I just can't.
[THUNDER RUMBLES.]
[SOBBING.]
I I can't.
I can't.
I I'm sorry.
I can't.
I ca I can't.
[SOBBING.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
I [BREATHES SHAKILY.]
[CRASH.]
What was that? Something fell on the door.
[INHALES SHARPLY.]
Charlie, push.
[GRUNTING.]
[WALKER GROWLING.]
[GUNSHOT.]
Alicia, look.
He fell on the door.
He saved us.
Did you do that for me or you? I did it for the people who could come back.
I found this in the house.
You keep it.
So you're good at finding things? Yeah.
CHARLIE: I can see her in you.
Even if you can't.
She's there.
I left Morgan alone in the storm.
I walked away from him.
I walked away from all of them.
I'm good at finding things.
Close your eyes.
Why? I'm gonna take you to the beach.
I didn't say it before, but it's one of my favorite places to go.
You're in the car.
The windows are down.
You can feel the air.
It's soft.
It smells like salt.
That's how you know you're close.
Then you hear the waves.
And you see the beach.
You take off your shoes, put your feet on the sand.
You can feel the sand in between your toes as you walk towards the water.
And when you go in, it's cold at first.
But the longer you stay in the more you don't want to get out.
And you float.
And you look back at all the people on the beach.
Are you there? I'm in the water.
It's really blue.
I'm looking back to shore and And what? [VOICE BREAKING.]
I can see them.
My mom and dad.
I can I can see them again.
ALICIA: Strand? Luciana? Luci? Strand? CHARLIE: Alicia! - We have to find them.
- ALICIA: Charlie No, we we have to find them and help them.
We don't know if they're alive.
They're gone.
Charlie things don't get better.
And they're not going to.
They're only gonna get worse till we're not around to see how bad they can get.
[WALKER GROWLING.]
Come on.
