Friday the 13th: The Series (1987) s03e03 Episode Script

Demon Hunter

(crickets chirping) VANCE (over radio): Moving into the third quadrant.
I'm still reading something.
Got him? The magnetometer just locked.
I'm trying a fix.
(steady beeping) I count a good three clicks from the drop.
Boy, there's something close by.
This thing isn't stopping.
You're still reading hot.
Keep bearing west.
Roger.
Come on, Bonnie.
He's alone out there.
(magnetometer beeping steadily) (rapid beeping) (whispers): Vance.
Read you, Travis.
I just made the hill.
I got a signal.
Pulsing into the near red at beta rate, bearing two niner two.
VANCE: Two niner two? Roger.
I make it a click to your right.
Roger.
He's, he's still between us.
Stay where you are, little bro.
I'll come along the tree line.
Bonnie, let me know if he breaks cover or starts moving.
(computer beeping) Got him! Due north.
VANCE: Travis! TRAVIS: I'm coming.
Travis, he's dead ahead of you.
He can't be more than 50 meters.
(rapid beeping) FARON: Bonnie, hang on.
(tires screech) Hold that fish.
Hang on.
Find him, Vance.
VANCE: Travis, find some cover.
You're a sitting duck out there.
BONNIE: Hurry, Travis, he's closing! (rapid beeping) Travis, he's almost on top of you! (computer beeping) (loud, eerie breathing) (panting) (creature snarling) (Travis panting over headset) (snarling) (grunts, screams) (roaring over headset) (screaming) (roaring) (screaming) (bones crunch) (groaning) VANCE: Travis! Oh, God.
(thunder crashing) (phonograph powers up) (slow ragtime jazz playing) (mechanical creaking) (chimes tinkling) (thunder crashes) Did you check the fuse boxes? Twice already.
Nothing's wrong with it.
I think we should call the electric company.
I did.
They say power surges like this happen.
Why don't we get an electrician? Would you just sign it? There, that didn't hurt too much, did it? To my partner.
The new other half of Curious Goods.
Micki, you're, you're not just, uh-- I don't know-- trying to get rid of everything that reminds you of Ryan, are you? Ryan will always be a part of my life, no matter what happens.
But should anything happen to me, I'd like the store to be in good hands.
Okay.
Mm, something came while you were out.
Ah, it's from the museum.
Wonder if it's an answer to the flyer.
Mm.
It's from the curator.
"Dear sir or madam, since receiving your mailer, "we have checked for items purchased "from the late Lewis Vendredi.
There were none.
" Well, what's this? "We are however returning the enclosed, "which was anonymously donated in Mr.
Vendredi's name.
"The piece arrived in our offices "approximately one month ago, with no return address.
" He's attached an appraisal.
It's an It's an Enochian dagger.
Demonolator's sacrificial knife.
Demonolator? It's a person who worships demons.
(racks shells into chamber) Dad, we can't start our own private war.
Who do you know who's better equipped? The bastards took Bonnie.
Let's waste them.
We don't even know where she is.
This cult's got cells all over.
TRAVIS: Nobody deserves to die more than they do.
You know that.
Who cares if we shoot the wrong ones? Your brother's right.
This is family.
You with us or not? Yeah.
(wind whistling softly) Come on, Dad.
(creature growling) (roaring) (steady beeping) You want to turn back? No.
We're gonna find that thing first.
Dad.
I'm not gonna let him get away with this.
Did you get a bearing? I lost it.
I'm picking up some interference from the city.
Look.
That's five miles away.
What's it picking up over there? Point of negative energy.
One hell of a lot stronger than anything we've read from him.
VANCE: Every time we get close, she loses him.
Stow it, Vance.
All this chasing with nothing to show! Nothing but What the hell do you want me to do about it?! Something's blocking me out! If you think I'm going in there blind.
Shut up, the two of you.
Now, you stay here.
Get a fix on that spot.
Maybe that's where it's going.
Vance.
Vance, I'm sorry.
For God's sakes, he was my brother, too.
You've got to find him and kill him, or else he'll just keep doing this.
We will.
Don't worry.
We will.
A human sacrifice made in a chamber prepared for necromancy raises up any chosen demon straight from hell.
You mean half human, half something else.
A gargoyle.
Yes, exactly.
And then whoever performs the sacrifice becomes the caller, and he simply orders up any servant he needs.
And then what? They sign a pact, setting out the demon's task, his length of service and so on.
So the caller gets everything he wants.
Mm-hmm.
What does the demon get out of it? Traditionally, he's paid in souls.
So, a lot of people could end up being killed.
Demonolators are the most dangerous people alive, Micki.
Here.
Wonder if Lewis ever used this.
I don't know.
I guess the important thing is that nobody will ever use it again.
Jack.
It's all right, I've got some matches.
(screams) (knife clinks on floor) Oh, damn! Here, take those.
What happened? I don't know.
I-I guess the dagger slipped or something.
Oh, damn.
We got to get you upstairs right away.
Come on.
Micki, put that away first, would you? (groans) (gasps) Jack.
The moon's so bright.
It knows we're here, and it knows why we're here.
(people chanting nearby) (chanting grows louder) (man screams) Bonnie! Where's my daughter?! Where is she? This isn't the first nest of you sick bastards we've wiped out! VANCE: Dad, look out! (grunting) Bonnie.
Daddy? Daddy! (sobbing) (sobbing continues) It's all right, Bonnie.
It's us.
What have you done to her?! Bastards.
You sick bastards! (gun firing) (screaming) (screaming) (screaming continues) TV ANNOUNCER: Three balls to Andre Dawson.
No outs, nobody on here in the top of the eighth.
Here's the windup.
(phone rings) Called strike.
Curveball in the inside corner.
Dawson taking all the way on that pitch.
He singled a right in the second, popped out in the fifth, and is the lead-off batter in this inning.
Three and one.
(staticky): Johnny, it's Micki.
Hey, Mick, I can hardly hear you.
Where are you calling from? I'm in the store.
Listen, something weird is happening.
Yeah? Jack cut his hand.
What? The line's breaking up.
Jack cut his hand, and the blood was.
(shrieks) Micki, look out! Micki? VANCE (over radio): The farmhouse is clear, Dad.
Nothing's been in here for years.
FARON: Okay, come back the way you came.
Don't disturb anything.
VANCE: Roger.
(magnetometer beeping) FARON Bonnie, check the barn next.
(growling) (magnetometer beeping rapidly) (wind whistling) Dad, (over headset): I don't see anything.
Vance, get over here.
We're going in.
(growling) BONNIE: Dad, be careful.
This interference is still blocking me.
I'm sorry.
(sobbing) I'm sorry! I'm sorry.
I couldn't do anything to stop it.
I'm sorry! Shh.
It's all right, it's all right.
It's over.
No, it's not.
After the man was dead, they took out his heart.
And then I saw him.
Him? The beast.
The floor opened and he walked up from hell.
Bonnie, they just had you so twisted up, you didn't know what you saw.
They sent him to stop you! They sent him to stop you from killing them.
He's out there right now! Shh.
No.
For God's sakes, believe me! He's out there! He's worse than any of them.
He'll kill us all if you don't stop him! Please?! The devil's alive! Shh, shh, shh Honey, it's all right.
(sobbing) No, it's not.
Shh The devil's alive! The devil's alive! (magnetometer beeping rapidly) (growling) (entrance bell jingling) Micki? Jack? Micki? MICKI: Johnny! Down here! You guys okay? Just a minute, Johnny.
What are you guys doing? We're trying to figure something out.
I came flying all the way over here 'cause it sounded like you were dying.
The Grimoire says, "Blood will be drawn to stone in a place built to accept blood.
" Blood was being drawn down.
So the place must be underneath us.
Make yourself useful and get me that hammer over there, will you? How did that happen? The lights have been acting up all night, then Jack cut his hand, and this thing happened.
When you were talking on the phone to Micki, a kind of energy force surged through and blew everything out.
Energy force? Spectral energy.
That's the remaining life force in the souls of the dead.
All our clocks have stopped.
That could be the only thing that made it happen.
Check your watch.
Mine stopped, too.
Mm.
Here.
(hollow echo) (tapping continues) (hollow echo) Johnny, there's a crowbar back there.
Would you bring it? FARON (whispering): Bonnie? BONNIE: Still nothing.
The ground floor's clear.
We're checking the lofts.
(magnetometer beeping rhythmically) (growling) (Johnny grunts) (grunts) You're getting it.
Yeah.
All right.
Watch your hands.
Oh! Okay.
(air whooshes) (coughing) Look at this.
Micki, the lantern! (footsteps thudding on stairs) JACK: My God, it's a church of necromancy; a place where demons are raised from hell.
Look.
(computers beeping, trilling) (growling) Who do you think did this? Who knows, Micki? Demon rites make use of some very powerful forces.
It could be anything.
The tunnel goes back about 50 feet and joins together with a bunch of other tunnels.
It smells like they were all leading into the sewers.
That means that somebody could have been using this place the whole time we've lived upstairs.
We'll get cement down here in the morning and wall it up.
Someone's got an overactive imagination.
It's all too real, I'm afraid.
You really expect me to believe actual demons from hell are brought here in the flesh? Micki, those contracts I was telling you about, they're here.
Yes, reversed Latin text, runic symbols of the demon Caller and the Sigil; signature of the creature itself.
Funny-looking ink.
It isn't ink.
It fits with everything, everything that I ever read about demon lore.
Yeah, it fits with every horror film I ever saw, too.
JACK: This explains something else.
Yes, the vault! I never understood why Lewis built it until now.
It would keep any unwanted hellspawn from escaping.
And any they couldn't control would be held here until they could send it back.
A prison of evil.
Yes, yes.
It's got the same runes as that arch over there.
So, the beast could never get out of here unless its Caller leads it out.
Jack, there's got to be a way to break the contract.
Only if the Caller is killed with the knife that was used in the sacrifice.
Look, I'm not buying it.
I think what we got here is a weird guy who's built a weird room who was into a lot of weird things.
The only demons I've ever met in my life were born the same way I was.
That doesn't explain this.
(magnetometer beeping rapidly) FARON: Second floor is clear.
Moving into the main loft.
(hushed): Go! (creaking sounds) It's coming in from over here, too.
It's coming in everywhere.
Let's get on upstairs.
Hey, Johnny, you stay here and keep an eye on this.
Me? How come suddenly I'm an expert in these things? I need Micki's help.
These may just tell us why this is happening now.
(magnetometer beeping rapidly) (beeping continues) (beeping grows louder) (whispers): Dad! (creature growling) (Vance screaming over headset) Get it off me! (gun firing, creature growling, Vance yelling) (gasping) Come on! Hold on! (grunting) (quietly): Don't let go.
Hold on! (yells) Help me! Vance! Vance! (creature growling, Vance yelling) (creature growling) (Vance grunts) No (muffled yell) (yells) (creature growls) (creature grunting in pain) (Vance yells) FARON: Vance! (creature panting, growls) (magnetometer beeping rapidly) (groans) (wind rushing) You were right about the energy force.
That's where he's going.
His time's running out-- he has to go back to where he came.
But this time we're gonna be there first.
Dad? I'm sorry.
Maybe it would've been best if you lost me and still had Travis and Vance.
Don't talk like that.
Maybe we should stop before something happens to one of us.
No.
Please, I don't want to lose you, too.
Let's just let him go.
He's gonna go all right the hard way.
(fierce growling) (quiet grunting) What's happening downstairs has something to do with these contracts.
If we could only find the right one.
This is strange.
What? It's dated today.
These scrolls were written a while back-- why pretend they're signed today? A demonic contract isn't dated when it's signed, it's dated for when it becomes due.
It's a full moon.
Demons can only rise or return on a full moon.
That's why the spectral energy is gathering.
Whatever was called up here is coming back.
Sometime before the contract expires-- by midnight.
That could be anytime-- what can we possibly do? Some demons can be rendered powerless or even destroyed.
If we can identify him, we may be able to find a way to stop him.
Hey, there's the sigil.
Give me the Grimoire.
Aha! There.
(people moaning in distance) (moaning continues in distance) (moaning continues) (moaning growing louder) (loud, echoed moaning) What's going on here? I just a face in that blood.
Ahriman's souls are gathering.
JOHNNY: Ahriman? MICKI: The demon that was called from here is coming back.
Yes, Ahriman, the Angel of Death.
This room is filling with the spirits of those he's helping.
What? MICKI: According to the contract, the cult was under attack, it's members were being killed.
Yes.
So Ahriman was called up in order to avenge them, and to hunt down the killers.
If he kills them all by midnight, the cult members will come back to life! Can this Ahriman be killed? Maybe, but not with anything we've got.
Maybe something in the vault can stop it.
Maybe the vault itself.
You told me that it could keep unwanted spirits from getting out.
What about getting in? Well, the Caller will have to lead Of course! The Caller's got to be coming back, too! And that's somebody human, somebody we can stop.
Right! How do we know who it is? This is the Caller's symbol.
He'll be wearing that marked on his body.
(shotgun cocking) (low growling) What are they doing here? Waiting for the same thing we are.
I don't know what you people FARON: Shut up! Did you set the charges? BONNIE: Yeah.
What time is it? Our watches don't work.
The spectral energy here's too powerful.
What, you know about that? We know all about your little blood bath.
Wait a minute! We'd better finish them now.
No.
We don't want that thing to know we're here.
There'll be plenty of time after it's dead.
FARON: We'll pay it back for Travis and Vance, and then we'll send them to keep it company.
(low growling) You're the people who were killing off the cults.
I don't know how to make you believe this, but we might be on the same side.
(chuckles): Yeah.
That's why this is here.
We found this place tonight.
How convenient.
There's only one way to stop that creature.
Right.
And you're looking at him.
Please, listen to me.
It explains in here One of their prayer books.
I hope you know it by heart.
MICKI: Why won't you believe us? We're decent people; we can help you.
Decent people don't own books about the Devil! Decent people don't have things like this in their basements! (low growling) We're not demon worshippers.
We're just trying to stop that You're the same filth we've been washing out of this world since that thing appeared-- it's gonna be a better place without you.
And don't think about the tunnels.
We put enough TNT in there to blow this place back to hell.
Come on.
(low growling) Shh.
Listen.
They're out of the vault.
Jack, come on, help me with this plate.
What are you doing? There's only two of them up there.
There's got to be something in the vault we can use.
Oh, no.
We can't stay here.
We can't use anything out of the vault under any circumstances.
(eerie, echoed moaning) (moaning continues) Jack.
Look at this.
(whispers): My god.
The souls of the cult members, waiting for Ahriman to finish his task.
(screams) Bonnie? Just making a final sweep.
Johnny, wait! We'd better think this thing out properly.
Better make it quick.
'Cause when that demon gets sucked back to hell, I bet we go with him.
The only way to stop Ahriman is to stop his Caller.
That means using something from up there.
(Johnny straining with exertion) JOHNNY: Open.
(floorplate rumbling) Come on.
Let's get this over with.
(growling) Found it.
Wait, Johnny.
You can't do this.
Jack, it's got to be close to midnight.
What does that tell you? No Caller's going to get by those two, unless he's one of them.
But which one? I don't know.
Let's hope we get lucky the first time.
(beeping) What took you so long? You taught me to be thorough.
Check downstairs.
Make sure they're not trying to get out.
And grab an automatic.
When this thing goes down, it's going to happen fast.
(beeping rapidly) (rapid beeping continues) (growling) (gun firing) Bonnie! (gunfire) (gun firing) (growling) (gunfire stops) (rack shells into chamber) (gun firing) Die! Die! (glass shattering) Johnny, without this.
(growling) (explosion) Ready? (gunshot) (gunshot) Freeze.
(growling) Jack, look.
Bonnie.
Listen.
(low growling) Everybody into the vault.
You, too! JACK: Come on! (growling) Get back! (grunting) There must be some way to stop this thing.
Or someone.
Here.
Maybe this will convince you we're on your side.
Kill them.
They're unclean.
They wallow in this.
So does she.
They're just all the same.
They'll do anything to squirm out of what they deserve.
(grunting and growling) Kill them.
They're just trying to drive us apart.
That thing is out there only because of her.
What are you talking about? Bonnie, what's this all about? (grunting) There's no blinder man than one with a mission.
What?! I was never kidnapped.
When you started wiping out cult cells to find me, I distracted you.
I unleashed it and kept you one step behind until the time was right.
She used that thing to keep you busy until she could turn it on you.
That's not true.
You were always a crusader, and I gave you your biggest crusade.
I bought the rest of the cult their safety.
And tonight, I'll bring back the ones you killed! No! Stop her! It can't get in, unless she calls it.
The way is clear! Get down.
(explosion) (grunts) (roaring) Jack? He's going home, and with all the souls he was promised.
No! (grunting) (snarling) (pipe clatters to floor) (growling) (both grunting) (roaring and panting) (roaring weakly) (whimpering) (bloodcurdling roar) (whimpering roar) (gasping groan) (echoey roar) (sobbing quietly) (quiet moaning) You really think that's going to do any good? Well, if it's protected the vault from evil, it should work here.
Mm, just in time.
I was beginning to worry we were running out of space.
Well, I guess this is the first thing we should put in here.
JACK: Used one more time than I would have wanted.
But then, what we want isn't always what's best, is it? Hmm.
Hey, guys, what happened here there was no other way, right? Well, if Faron hadn't been so blinded by love for his daughter, perhaps there would have been less blood spilled.
The truth really hurts sometimes, doesn't it? You know, there's an old saying: "If, of the many truths, you select one and follow it blindly, it will become a falsehood, and you a fanatic.
