Good Trouble (2019) s04e07 Episode Script

Take These Chances

1 So we had an idea.
It's a new feature for the app called "CounterPro.
" I have been secretly feeding Bulk Beauty intel on all of the brands that they're going after.
But because I had to sign a non-compete agreement, I'm stuck here for two years.
What am I gonna do? Non-compete agreements aren't enforceable in California.
- Wait, what? - Yes! Tanya and I split up.
And I'd like to ask you to be my primary.
Angelica and I used to date.
Do you know if she's seeing anyone? I don't really know.
I mean, she hasn't mentioned anyone.
I've made a decision about your proposal.
I'm pushing it forward.
Now the real work begins.
You can kiss your personal life goodbye! You've read Malika's proposal, right? It's not a top priority.
My sister left home eight years ago and I've no idea where she's at.
I think she might've lived here at some point.
How long have you been homeless? Since I was 14.
Can't get a regular job.
And that's the thing about being invisible.
No one cares when they erase you.
Who are you and how are you doing my dance? Oh! Uh-uh, I am sorry.
- Alice, you're back! - Early! - - ALICE: Margaret had to cancel her tour 'cause she booked a movie.
I know you quit the tour.
Why did you lie? I actually moved to LA to be a waiter.
Yeah, but it's a tough industry to break into, so I'm doing stand-up comedy on the side to pay the bills.
I really think I'm about to get my big break.
I just met at the Rancho Cucamonga Olive Garden.
Word on the street, they're talking two-figure deal.
Breadsticks for days.
So how's the women's center proposal going? It's going great.
I think you have done excellent work.
It's ready to take to the floor.
Oh, wow! - That is so exciting! - It is.
You just need two council members to sponsor it.
So I suggest you approach my closest allies, Councilmen Gonzales and Brown.
Gonzales and Brown, got it.
Even though Lucia has me working day and night, it's been worth it.
I mean, I never could've moved this fast in the nonprofit space.
Mm.
Mm-hmm.
Maybe I was wrong about you taking this job in politics.
Oh, yeah, you were definitely wrong, but that's okay.
So have you thought about us being each other's primaries? - I have.
- Yeah? And? Hey, thank you for your advice about calling Callie.
You were right.
It was exactly what I needed.
All good.
I'm glad to hear that.
It must be hard for you not hearing from your sister in so long.
Yeah, it is.
Can I ask why she left home? Um, I don't really love talking about that.
- Oh, sorry.
Sure.
- No, no, it's fine.
Morning.
Hey, Joaquin, I just read your article on Luca.
I didn't know he was unhoused.
How do you know Luca? Uh, we met when he crashed in your loft.
Crashed? Who crashed? When? Uh, it was just a friend of mine, for like two nights when I was out of town.
Okay, well, notice of any overnight guests must be submitted to the manager, who is me.
Without special permission, there's a two-consecutive nights rule.
As if rules are ever enforced around here.
Listen up! That's gonna change around here.
No more Ms.
Nice Gal.
I'm bringing back the chore chart and community service.
And late fees on late rent! And no more showering for more than 10 10 minutes.
You've got to be kidding me.
And we have ants! Ugh! What's wrong with you people? Okay.
Uh, do you have any way to get a hold of Luca? I think I might have a job opportunity for him if he's interested.
Oh, um, you know, I tried calling him the other day, but his phone was disconnected, so.
Well, do you know where I could find him? The last place I saw him was an encampment by Skid Row.
- Okay.
Thanks.
- Yeah.
Hold on.
You're not going down there alone.
- No, I'll be fine.
- No, I'm gonna go down there with you.
Just give me a minute to change.
Okay.
And people keep leaving food and dirty dishes around, which probably creates crumbs.
Tasty little crumbs! No more eating in your lofts! - Damn it! - What's up with her? What? I know you quit the tour.
What's going on, Alice? Why did you lie? Because I don't want to do stand-up anymore.
And I didn't want a bunch of questions.
What? But you love stand-up! Well, you know, after being on tour and learning what it's really like, I changed my mind.
- What - It's not what I want to do anymore! I'll tell you later.
If you see one ant, there are thousands of ants in a colony somewhere close by with a queen.
Yo! Dennis, hey! You got a minute? - Sure.
- Uh What do you know about this girl? Jenna? She used to live here.
She went by, like, another name, right? Diana Graham? Uh, yeah.
I think she told me that she had to use someone else's name on her lease 'cause she had a bad credit score or something.
- You know her? - Uh, yeah.
We're just both from Oklahoma.
I'm trying to track her down.
I haven't seen her in a while, but then again, I don't hang out in clubs anymore.
Oh, is that where you met her? Yeah.
She used to come to some of my shows.
She actually brought me back here.
It's how I found out about The Coterie, as a matter of fact.
Hmm.
She brought you back here? - Yeah.
- Nice.
You have her number or anything? Uh, no.
Never got her number.
But I do remember that I bumped into her a few months later at a bar called Mickey's.
She was, uh, dating the manager, I think, named Chris.
Don't remember his last name.
Not sure if he's still there.
- You should check it out.
- Okay, cool.
Yeah, thanks, man.
- Good luck with that.
- Yeah.
So, we have a surprise for you.
We finished the deck for CounterPro! And we think it's ready to pitch to Jackie.
So I have good news.
Callie told me that non-compete contracts aren't actionable in the state of California, which means I can leave Revitalize and officially come back to Bulk Beauty.
- Yes! - This is such great news! - Group hug! - Group hug! Oh, yay! Now we're back! It's amazing.
It's great news! However, um there is one more problem.
Ava and Raisa have a big idea for the app, and I think it might totally crush us.
What is it? I can't say.
That would be stealing! And And we don't steal.
We're better than Jackie.
But I do have an idea.
If my non-compete isn't binding, neither is Ava and Raisa's.
So what if we invite them to join Bulk Beauty and they bring their big idea to us before they pitch it to Jackie? Would they leave Revitalize to come here? I feel very confident.
And if I explain everything, they won't want any part of an app idea that was stolen.
So, you're a spy? Is this why Bulk Beauty has been signing our brands? Because you've been sabotaging us? No, no.
I I I mean, maybe a little.
But only because Jackie stole our idea after we pitched it to her.
And she manipulated you two into creating her own version of Bulk Beauty.
That's not true.
We came to Jackie.
Yeah, we didn't rip off anyone's idea.
No, you didn't.
But you did say that your original pitch was about cleaning products, and that she steered you into beauty.
Don't you find it odd that the code was already written? That was our code.
She cloned it and then changed it just enough so we couldn't sue.
So why are you telling us this now? Hmm? Because I am asking you to leave Revitalize and come to Bulk Beauty, where we actually value women in tech, and don't pit them against each other.
And you don't wanna be a part of an idea that's stolen, right? I don't know, Mariana.
You still lied to us.
Agreed.
This is a lot to digest.
- We need to think about this.
- We need to think about this.
Excuse me.
I'm so sorry.
Have you seen this person? His name is Luca.
No? So sorry to bother you but have you seen this man, Luca? Long, brown hair? About 5'9".
Mm-hmm.
Sorry.
Sadly, I think we might be looking for a needle in a haystack.
If you have stuff to do, you can go on.
Davia, I'm here to help.
Thank you.
But if we don't find him by the afternoon, the job will be filled.
What is this job? Five, six, seven, eight.
Feel it! And eight.
Three, four, five, shoulder, shoulder, shoulder.
One, two, three, four, five, leg, seven, eight, and one.
Nice! Ah! Great work.
Great work today! You are all really coming together as an ensemble.
Yeah.
Oh, unfortunately, Jessie had to fall out.
So I'm holding auditions for a new dancer tomorrow, if anyone knows anyone who's interested.
Does it have to be a woman? I mean, could it be a man? Burlesque? That's amazing.
When did you get into that? Well, after I got fired for that video, I just wanted to do something that made me proud of my body and myself.
You know, build my confidence back.
We're gonna get invited to this show? Yeah, we'll see if I'm that confident.
I don't know.
Luca's a dancer.
I just didn't want him to miss the opportunity if it was something he'd be interested in.
What? You're a good You're a good person.
Oh, stop it.
- - Well, apparently, I'm not that good of a person.
Yeah, me either.
We should keep looking.
Yeah, that's great.
Councilman Gonzales.
Councilman Gonzales.
Oh, hi, I was wondering if you had a chance to read my women's center proposal? So I just figured that Councilman Brown isn't able to sponsor your project.
Uh, I'm sorry.
I can't support another motion at this time.
I'm sorry.
You okay? Lucia told me to ask Councilmen Gonzales and Brown to co-sponsor my proposal, and they both said no.
But I don't get it.
They're supposed to be Lucia's allies.
Yeah.
Look, I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I have a friend who's an aide in Gonzales' office, and she told me that Lucia asked him not to.
Wait.
What? Why would she do that? For some reason she's not telling you, she obviously wants to kill it.
But that's so not okay! But that's so politics.
Excuse me.
I'm looking for Chris.
Does he still work here? Yeah, unfortunately.
I'm Chris.
What can I do for you? Uh, just looking for an old friend of mine, Jenna Perez.
What'd you say your name was? I didn't.
Jake Davis.
Like I said, just an old friend of Jenna's.
Just moved back to LA, so I'm just trying to reconnect with her.
Who told you to come to me? Uh, a friend of hers.
Said that you guys were, like, an item or something.
I wouldn't say that.
I mean, she used to hang out at the bar.
But I barely knew her.
Any chance you know where she is? I haven't seen her in a long while.
Gotcha.
You don't have, like, a number or an email or I don't.
Sorry.
Wish I did, but like I said, it's been a while.
Hmm.
Help me out I've gotta get these bottles stocked, so Sure.
Thanks anyway, man.
Hey, man, you worked here long? - Couple years.
- Yeah? How well you know, uh, Chris? Well enough to know he's an asshole.
Here I was thinking I was special.
Let me ask you something.
You know, uh You know this girl? Yeah, that's Chris' ex, Jenna.
Oh, ex.
So they were serious? They were living together.
Pretty hot and heavy for a while.
I don't know what happened, he didn't say.
Just that they broke up.
- Gotcha.
Thanks, man.
- Yeah.
What if he doesn't want to do it? Well, he still needs to know about it.
Even if he doesn't want to dance, we should still help him out, he's a nice guy.
Hey Davia! Luca! Hey! It's me, Davia.
Do you remember me? Oh, uh, yeah.
No, of course, I do.
Dennis, this is Luca.
- Hey.
- What happened to you? Oh, um, no, it's just, um, this guy on the streets, like, been harassing me.
You know, just, like, trying to shake me down.
That is terrible.
I'm so sorry.
Yeah, it is what it is.
I'm actually I'm on my way out of town.
No! You can't leave.
I mean, I have an opportunity for you to dance.
You have to stay.
Can someone please explain to me why our competitor is landing more brands than we are? We just won the Archambeau Cosmetics pitch.
Thanks to Mariana.
I have my boss coming down on me because I gave a chance to you two.
I gave you the code.
I gave you the idea.
I handed it all over to you.
And what have you done for me? Do you have any ideas of your own you'd like to show me? Good news! Since Gonzales and Brown declined to sponsor the women's center proposal, I got two other council members on board.
What? Hernandez and Russo.
I I didn't ask you to approach Hernandez and Russo.
Those council members are going to expect favors from us in return.
Oh.
I'm so sorry.
I know how invested you are in helping women impacted by incarceration, and I didn't think it would be a problem since the goal was to get the proposal to the floor.
- Right? - You don't decide what the goals are here.
And neither do I.
She does.
I mean, you don't wanna kill it, do you? Of course not.
Just next time, ask before you take action.
Absolutely, um, I will.
That was not a sincere apology.
That was acting.
And I would know because I know, Will.
"Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," two episodes.
You saw them! Are you serious? Who sent you? Gah! You're not gonna see this coming.
I'm gonna find you, you tiny bitch! Yes, I will.
What're you doing? I'm gonna flush out the queen ant with lemon water.
And when she sends a signal to the colony that it's time to move, I'm gonna catch her, kill her, and take her army down! Okay.
Um, Sumi told me that you left the tour and that you don't wanna do comedy anymore.
What's up with that? Are you good? I'm fine.
I'm fine! I'm fine, I'm fine.
Everything's fine.
Yeah.
God, why would Sumi tell you that? Because I asked.
And I'm worried about you.
Did you have a bad night on stage? No.
People's dreams change.
And I don't wanna be interrogated about it.
Okay.
But, you know, sometimes we can hit a speed bump, or a wall even, but it doesn't mean we have to quit.
Remember when we saved that bird? You know, sometimes the closed windows of life can knock us down, but we can always get back up again and give things another chance, whether that's a new thing or the old thing.
In the meantime, I bought ant traps.
Maybe they'll help? At least until you flush out the queen.
So What happened? Are they in? Oh, God, it's bad news, isn't it? Do you have any ideas of your own you want to show me? I have a question.
Who did write the code? What does that have to do with anything? Your concern is what you're bringing to the table.
I need some fresh, new ideas.
We'll get right on it.
Yeah, we'll brainstorm some fresh, original ideas for you.
See that you do.
Impress me.
All of you.
Raisa and Ava are coming to Bulk Beauty.
- Yes! - No way! We just have to go back to clean out the rest of our stuff, and then tomorrow will be our last day.
