Hudson and Rex (2019) s03e03 Episode Script

Into the Wild

1 KENDRA: Okay guys! We're going to camp here! Let's get a fire started right away! WOMAN: It's not going to be easy.
The wood's still pretty wet from the rain.
It's dry on the inside.
Bring me small ones.
Finger and thumb-sized only.
And let's move fast okay? - The temperature drops fast.
- Oh! Whoah whoah whoah! You okay? I'm fine.
Just starting to regret this whole thing.
Is it true this is bear country? Oh no no no.
There's way too many pumas and wolves for them.
Don't worry.
Once the fear subsides and you're settled in, you're going to love it! And besides, we could be the first people ever to have camped here.
WOMAN: You're going to want to see this.
I think someone beat us to it! - - (THEME MUSIC) JESSE: Well this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! DONOVAN: It's not every day we find an ancient mummy.
Where's the body now? The forensic anthropologist who supervised removal of the body is sending it here to my lab.
Shouldn't it be going to a museum instead? SARAH: The coroner is treating this as an unusual death despite the body's apparent age.
They've asked us to take a look.
How old a body are we talking about? I mean, judging by the clothing, I'm guessing early 1700s.
A French settler or tradesman.
(CHARLIE WHISTLES) We're lucky the body was so well preserved.
SARAH: Yeah, thanks to our harsh climate.
Tundra-like conditions are ideal for the mummification process.
Yeah, anywhere else and we'd be looking at a pile of old bones.
(REX BARKS) Joe, you just said the B word.
- (REX YELPS) - No, sorry buddy.
- I don't have a bone for you.
- (REX BARKS) (THEY LAUGH) Yeah, it makes you wonder, what circumstances led to this poor guy ending up like that.
(PHONE PINGS) Oh! We're about to find out! The body just arrived.
CHARLIE: So how's our ancient friend? SARAH: Not so ancient, actually.
How is that possible? It's completely mummified.
Mummification doesn't always take as long as you'd think, especially in extreme climates.
Rapid freezing causes the slowdown of the bacteria that starts the decomposition process.
Well he's dressed as a settler.
Yeah, which is what makes it so strange.
His clothes are authentic as far as being hand-stitched, and made from real animal pelts.
And there's no dental work or tattoos.
There's nothing I could find that links him to modern life.
Any idea how old he was? It's difficult to tell, given the state of the body.
But based on dental, I'm guessing early-twenties.
Mmmm.
I won't even ask about fingerprints.
Oh actually, I was able to lift a partial print, by rehydrating the tissue.
But there were no matches in the database.
That's going to make identifying the body pretty difficult.
Here.
This actually might help.
He was - (REX BARKS) wearing it around his neck.
I don't recognize the symbol.
No, neither do I.
So if you didn't find anything modern on the body, then why do you think it's present day? Because, there you go, I removed this from an entry wound in our mystery man's back.
It was lodged above the kidney.
A very modern rifle slug.
Yeah.
Which makes this a very modern murder.
- - (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Come on, pal.
Hi! Hi! SARAH: Someone's excited.
Rex has a pretty big crush on Kendra.
Hi! Nice to see you! - Thanks for seeing us! - No problem! - You know I love a mystery.
- Well you are pretty good at them.
Never would have found that missing photo journalist, without you.
Right, well if you keep this up, you're going to have to add me to the payroll, Charlie.
(REX BARKS QUIETLY) - Hey Sarah.
- Hi.
How can I help you guys? I'm wondering if you could take a look at this.
(REX YELPS) Beautiful work.
- Handcrafted.
- (REX BARKS) Rex is pretty excited to see you.
KENDRA: Yeah, well, the feeling's mutual.
I miss his visits.
Uh, is the design Is the design familiar to you? Doesn't appear to be First Nations.
I'm familiar with the symbolism and iconography of this area.
But this is totally unusual to me.
(KENDRA SNIFFS) There is one thing about it.
What's that? Well I said it was handcrafted.
But there's nothing synthetic about it.
I mean, even the protective barrier is hand crafted by some kind of plant-based resin.
Here, smell it.
Smells like, licorice.
(SARAH SNIFFS) Anise.
KENDRA: That's why Rex is so curious about it.
- (REX BARKS) - Dogs love it the way cats love catnip.
Sorry I can't be more help.
SARAH: Do you have any idea why someone would be out in the barrens, wearing an outfit authentic to the coureurs des bois? Could be a survivalist.
You'd be surprised by how many people come out here, just trying to live off the grid.
700 kilometres of wilderness in our backyard.
And the most extreme survivalists live out here for months.
Sometimes years.
That can't be an easy life.
KENDRA: It's not.
And a lot of them are unprepared, for how dangerous the environment can really be.
I mean, I've seen people succumb to elements, wildlife, starvation.
There's lots of ways to die out here.
Well for our victim, we can add a shot in the back to the list.
JESSE: You've never heard of Survivorman? It's a TV show.
The guy drops himself into the most extreme environments, on the planet, and films himself struggling to survive.
One time he even had to drink his own pee.
Sounds like a special episode, Jesse.
Well, point is I was looking into extreme survival and I found our very own Survivorman, right here in St.
John's.
Edgar Vance.
A local journalist who went deep into the wilderness with his camera to do a piece on indigenous plant species.
But then he claims, he came across a small community of survivalists, who've been living off the grid, for almost two decades.
The article also describes a second generation among the community, children who were born there who don't know any other life.
This could actually help explain why we're having such a hard time identifying our victim.
There'd be no official birth record, no social insurance number, nothing.
Yeah, it's like he never existed.
No no.
He existed.
He has a name.
Has a family somewhere.
He had a life before it was taken from him.
And we're going to find out who took it.
When was this article written? Oh, three years ago.
Here.
Edgar Vance doesn't have much of a social media presence.
Or none, for that matter.
Also no police record.
So he's proving to be almost as elusive as our victim.
We got an address? Well yeah.
Just the one that's on the driver's license, which hasn't been renewed in, 20 years.
Well, got to start somewhere.
Thanks Jessie.
Rex! (KNOCKING ON DOOR) CHARLIE: Anybody home? EDGAR: Who is it? Are you Edgar Vance? I've lived here damn near my whole life.
You can't force me to leave.
No, that's not why I'm here.
Look.
I need to ask you a few questions, about an article you wrote a few years ago, about living with some extreme survivalists.
What's with the gun? It's not loaded, if that's what you're wondering.
Firing pin's, all rusted out.
Then why do you have it? Home security system.
Scares the hell out of any meth heads coming to look for a place to crash.
I got the papers, if you need them.
(REX SNIFFING) (REX WHINING) Must've spilled some soup in bed.
Mind if I take a look? (REX GROWLING) I could come back with a warrant.
There just might be a few questions as to why you're living in a condemned house.
I'll take my chances, but, could you ask your dog to back away from my things? I would.
But Rex has a mind of his own.
Good job, buddy.
What have you got? I think we're going to have to finish this conversation down at the station.
Well give me one good reason why.
Because I've seen one of these before.
Around the neck of my homicide victim.
- - (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) It was a gift.
From those people you came here to talk about.
The survivalists? Well, they don't think of themselves as survivalists.
They're just people, opting out of civilization, looking for a fresh start.
What's this about a homicide? The victim was a young man.
Probably in his early twenties.
(EDGAR EXHALES) You know him? There's only one person at the camp that could possibly be.
His name's Heath.
There were a few children born into the camp.
Heath was the first.
Smart kid.
He was the best fisherman I've ever seen.
He made that talisman with his own hands.
Even when the others deemed me unworthy.
Unworthy how? Well, I was an outsider.
I represented a danger to their way of life.
They thought that your story was going to bring them unwanted attention? I promised I wouldn't publish any of the pictures.
But it wasn't enough.
Someone went into my shelter, busted my camera, destroyed most of the data cards.
I only managed to rescue one of them.
Do you still have it? Yeah.
You never foung out who destroyed your camera? I suspected a guy named Baron, but didn't push him on it.
Scary dude.
For what it's worth, I I never felt good about publishing that article.
You got too close to your subjects.
Especially Heath.
JESSE: This is a clip of Heath being interviewed by Edgar.
The Count Of Monte Cristo.
For the twentieth time.
Where good deeds are rewarded, and bad deeds, don't go unpunished.
They make me want to go out and see the world.
EDGAR: Maybe you'll get the opportunity.
Have an adventure.
See the world.
SKYE: Don't be putting ideas in my boy's head.
He's not going anywhere without me.
He needs his mom! JESSE: That woman's name is Skye.
Seems like she's Heath's mother.
I ran her age and description against the missing person database.
But so far, no hits.
Mmmm.
JESSE: Yeah, the rest of the memory card just shows photos of the camp.
This part never gets easier.
Seeing them like that.
Young, happy.
- Their whole life ahead of them.
- CHARLIE: Yeah, all we can do is make sure is that his death doesn't go unpunished.
Oh, speaking of which, we received confirmation that Edgar's rifle was not a match for the slug we pulled from the body.
SARAH: I got the autopsy report back.
The shooting was fatal.
But surprisingly, there were signs of early infection in the wound.
So he wasn't killed outright.
No, he survived a day.
Maybe two at the most.
DONOVAN: Do you think he was incapacitated? He was young, strong.
I mean, the cold may have slowed the rate of blood loss.
So it's not out of the question that he was mobile during the time.
So even if he didn't die in the spot where he was shot, it's highly unlikely there's any evidence left.
CHARLIE: Yeah, but if there's a possibility of a secondary crime scene, near where the body was found, I'd like to take a look.
- Charlie, that's two hours away.
- Yeah.
Yeah, and that's just the drive Charlie, okay? You'd also have to hike through the barrens.
Well there are a bunch of service roads that run through that area.
I could probably get pretty close.
It's not exactly a Jack London story.
SARAH: Yeah, but forensics has already swept the area.
Maybe Rex can find something else.
(REX BARKS) - - (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Nice day for a hike, partner.
(REX YELPS) Come on.
- - (ELECTRIC GUITAR) (REX BARKS) I'm starting to think Joe was right, partner.
Maybe coming here was a waste of time, huh? Well, at least we got in a good hike.
(REX YELPS) What have you got, Rex? (REX WHINES) Same material as Heath's clothes.
Must be his.
Looks like water must have gotten in here.
Oh.
Whatever's on this note, it's illegible.
(CAMERA SNAPPING) - (SPEED DIAL) - (PHONE RINGING) Hey Charlie.
Got your text.
Looking into it now.
CHARLIE: Rex found it near the crime scene.
First thoughts? Seems like it's a page torn out of a book.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
Any way we can enhance the image, so we can read what's on the page? You know, Charlie.
There's only so much I can do with a photo.
When will you be back with the original? A two-hour hike back to the car.
A two-hour drive.
So I doubt we'll be back before nightfall.
Wait.
Wait, two hours? I thought the service road was supposed to take you a lot closer.
Yeah, there was a tree down.
I had to take an alternate route.
Understood.
Hey, one more thing.
I just got a hit on the name Baron, that Edgar gave us.
I mean, I thought it was a little too Mad M to be real.
But it turns out it's a guy named Mateo Baron.
He did a stretch for manslaughter before disappearing six years ago, after failing to report to his parole officer.
I'll send you his mug shot now.
Good job, Jesse.
I'll see you soon.
(PHONE PINGS) (REX GROWLS) (REX BARKING) Did somebody break into the car? (REX BARKING) Ahh! Wait.
(REX BARKS) Spark plugs are missing! We're not going anywhere any time soon, huh? (REX BARKS) Phone's dead.
(REX BARKS) Spare charger's gone.
Which means nobody is going to be looking for us for a few hours.
- (REX BARKING) - What? What is it? Huh? (REX BARKING) Catnip for dogs.
(REX BARKS) Is this what you're smelling? (REX BARKS) (REX BARKS) Looks like somebody was wearing a talisman.
Which means this directly connects to Heath.
(REX BARKING) Looks like this just became a hunting expedition, Rex.
We are going to have to find them before they find us.
- - (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Let's have some water, partner.
Come here.
Yeah, I know.
I'm pretty tired too.
Rex.
But if we stop now, you might lose the scent.
So let's keep going, okay? Lead the way.
Let's go.
DONOVAN: Jesse.
You hear from Charlie yet? Uh, no, no.
Not yet.
I mean, he wasn't expecting to be back, until later this evening.
How's it going with this? It's pretty good.
I'm making progress.
You know, playing around with the contrast allowed me to pick up a few key words, which I then ran through a literary works database.
Did you get the name of the book yet? Yes.
The Count Of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
That's the book that Heath had in the video.
Exactly, exactly.
So I know which edition to look out for.
It must have a passage or a paragraph, or something that Heath thought would get his message across.
Well, I mean, you know, I know that book really well.
Oh! All for one.
One for all.
I'm pretty sure that's The Three Musketeers, sir.
CHARLIE: I hate to put this hunting expedition on hold.
But it's getting dark.
We've got to stay warm.
You know any good jokes? Huh? Alright, I got one.
Why are dogs terrible dancers? (REX BARKS) They've got two left feet.
(REX GROANS) Alright.
Yeah, that was a pretty bad one.
(CHARLIE BLOWING ON FIRE) Alright, you stay here.
I'll get some wood.
(SIREN BLEEPING) (KNOCKING) Hey Sarah, what can I do for you? Yeah, I just wanted to see if you've heard from Charlie.
I left him a few messages.
But he hasn't gotten back to me.
He should be back by now.
Do you think we should send out a patrol car to his last known position? That's easier said than done.
Jesse said that he ran into a barrier on his way in, and then was forced to improvise.
So he could be anywhere? Well last thing we knew, he was about a two-hour walk away from the crime scene.
I'm going to get a car, and see if I can get it out there right away.
Yeah, I'd like to go as well.
Just in case he needs medical attention.
What we should do, is coordinate our efforts with the park rangers.
They know that area better than anyone else.
What about Kendra? She's already familiar with the case.
Yeah, I'm calling her right now.
Okay.
Hey.
Morning, pal.
You as thirsty as I am? Here.
Here, buddy.
(REX SNIFFING) This is the last of it.
We're not going to last out here for very long, without any water.
I know there's none back the way we came, so, here.
(REX WHINES) I know.
Let's take a look at this map again, pal.
(REX SNIFFING) (REX BARKS) (REX BARKS) Yeah, I think we're right about here, so, if we head due east, we should hit this lake system by Okay.
Alright, let's go.
Come on! We've got a killer to find! We should have come across water by now, pal.
You sure we're heading in the right direction? Maybe we should go back the other way.
Hey? Rex? You're going the wrong way, pal.
Aghh! Why do I ever doubt you partner? (CHARLIE LAUGHS) Ohh! (CRACK) (REX WHINES) (REX BARKING) (REX WHINES) - - (DRAMATIC MUSIC) (REX BARKING) Sparks are gone.
Looks like sabotage.
It's a note from Charlie.
In pursuit of suspect.
Heading northwest.
That means he's going deeper into the barrens.
He could be in trouble.
I'll call it in.
(PHONE BUZZING) Sarah.
Good news I hope? We managed to find Charlie's car.
But Charlie and Rex aren't here.
They went after the suspect on foot.
They've been gone too long without checking in.
We have to assume they're in trouble.
I'll have Search and Rescue in the air within the hour.
Okay, that's great.
Thanks.
Keep me posted.
Charlie's a resourceful guy.
But he's a city cop.
And Rex or no Rex, this is a whole new ballgame.
The superintendent is sending a chopper.
There's too much ground to cover.
And from that vantage point, he could miss them in trees amongst the rocks.
Listen, I know this area.
I have tracking skills.
I'm in a better position to find them.
I have a sat cell.
I'll keep an open line of communication with your team.
Okay.
I'm coming too.
Don't try to talk me out of it, alright? I thought you might say that.
(THEY LAUGH) Thank you.
Ow! Hey.
Hey buddy.
Yeah, good to see you too.
(DOOR CREAKING) I'm glad to see you're awake.
Where am I? You're in our camp.
I promise we pose no threat to you.
Ohhh! Do you have water? Yeah, we filled yours up.
Over there.
You were in bad shape when we found you.
Or I should say your dog found us.
He led us right back to you.
He wouldn't take no for an answer.
(REX WHINES) Thanks pal.
So, what brings you so far from the city, friend? Well I see you've been through my pack.
So you know that I'm a cop.
We found your badge.
Detective Charlie Hudson.
Charlie is fine.
I'm Shale.
(MAN LAUGHS) CASEY: Hey! Welcome back to the land of the living! How are you feeling man? Oh, I've been better, but, I'll survive.
Hey.
Follow the stick with your eyes.
Good.
You had a nasty tumble by the looks of it.
Besides the head wound, I think you're fine.
Nothing broken.
You got lucky.
I take it you're the village doctor? I think doctor is pushing it.
I did a year of med school in another life.
It wasn't for me.
But I learned enough to deal with mild bumps and bruises.
Well I appreciate the save.
Hey.
All I did was fix you up.
It was your dog that saved you.
That's an ongoing theme of my life.
Get some rest.
I'll check in later.
Hey pal.
Grab my jacket.
SHALE: You're welcome to stay as long as you need.
Where's my gun? I don't know.
You had no weapon on you when we found you.
Tell me about this camp.
How many people live here? There's 23 of us.
How well do you know each other? We're a family.
I was part of the group that came out here, about 20 years ago.
Since then, we've added a few stragglers here and there.
Doc Casey is our most recent addition.
What is that around your neck? Oh.
All of us wear these.
Each one has it's own story.
They all look the same.
But, no two are exactly alike.
Do you recognize this? This this belongs to a young man, who left our camp, three months ago.
We've had no word from him since.
His mother has been worried sick.
This Please tell me this is not what I think it's about.
I think you'd better take me to his mother.
Ohh.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
Do you have any idea why Heath was leaving camp? No.
He has an adventurous spirit.
And I knew one day he'd want to leave this place.
But, my boy would never leave without telling me.
Can you think of anyone who might have wanted to hurt him? No.
He was loved by everyone.
The only person Tell me.
My husband was abusive.
I ran away from him, and came out here because, I knew this was the one place he wouldn't be able to find me.
I've always loved nature.
And then I found this place.
They took me in without question.
It was only then that I realized I was pregnant.
Heath's father never knew he existed.
Don't pay Baron any mind.
(WHACKING AXE IN WOOD) He's always been distrustful of strangers.
SHALE: Yeah, he wasn't too crazy about us bringing you back here.
I told him, you'd see that we were a peaceful community.
But he's concerned that you might bring us, some unwanted attention.
Was he with you when you found me? It was Baron, the Doc, and myself.
Okay, keep me posted.
There's no sign of Charlie from the air, or from the ground.
Where are we with the page from that book? Okay, listen to this.
It is the way of weakened minds to see everything through a black cloud.
The soul forms its own horizons.
Your soul is darkened and consequently the sky of the future appears stormy and unpromising.
What does that mean? I don't know.
I don't know.
But Heath must have kept this note from his killer, for a reason.
He knew he had a dark cloud.
Something I can do for you? Yeah, you can start by returning my sidearm.
I don't know what you're talking about.
(REX BARKING) Your name is Mateo Baron.
You did seven years for manslaughter.
I was only 22 years old.
I did my time.
You violated your parole.
Why is that? I couldn't find work.
Nobody wants to give an ex-felon a chance.
It felt like my life was over.
So I came out here to die.
Instead I found this camp.
Beautiful isn't it? Nobody here cares about the man I was.
They only see the man I am now.
What kind of a man is that? You know, I heard you talking about Heath.
And, you think I killed him? Did you? Heath was a good kid.
I was fond of him.
Besides, I lost my taste for violence a long, long time ago.
SARAH: I jog every morning.
But this gives, new meaning to the term grueling.
Yeah, it's the uneven terrain.
You'll get used to it.
So how did you and Charlie meet? Oh, we were friends in high school.
And then we met up after his divorce, and kind of continued the friendship.
- More than friends, yeah.
- (THEY LAUGH) You know, Charlie's always been a bit closed off to me.
He's a bit of a lone wolf.
Oh, what's this? Huh.
Looks like we're going the right way.
Let's go.
(CHILDREN PLAYING) (REX SNIFFING) CHARLIE: What have you got, pal? Huh? What have you got? Left mounted bolt.
Left-handed shot.
What's this? Good job, partner.
Now we know the wolf is hiding among the sheep.
Everything okay, Detective? Yeah.
Whose shelter is this? Baron's.
Why? Just curious.
Excuse me.
Skye, can I talk to you? Mm-hmm.
I need a favour.
I'm going to head back to St.
John's as soon as I can.
But I don't want anyone in camp to know that I've left just yet.
Does this have something to do with my son's death? I believe so, yes.
- - (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) All clear.
Remember.
Don't tell anybody I'm leaving.
I don't want anybody to get spooked, and take off before I get back.
I understand.
Safe travels.
Okay, Sarah.
Are you sure nothing jumps out at you? Do you want me to read it back to you again? Because I can.
You've read it three times, Jesse.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
No no, it's fine.
I just thought you might have a fresh perspective.
Well maybe you're being too literal.
Have you considered the sub-text? You know, read between the lines? Read between Read between the Read between the lines! Sarah! You're brilliant! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Okay.
I'm glad I could be of Hello? Take a look at this.
You think Charlie built it? Yeah.
I taught him how to use a battery to start a fire.
Okay, so I say we keep going.
Of course.
BARON: Hey listen, um.
.
You haven't seen You haven't seen that cop around lately, have you? No, not for a few hours.
He was supposed to come see me to check on his head.
But, he didn't show up.
Are you looking for Charlie? I saw him and his dog leaving camp a few hours ago.
Look, Shale.
Something's not right.
I hear you.
He was out around your shelter today, acting strange.
My shelter? Shale, I told you not to bring him here.
(JESSE TYPING) Great news, sir! I cracked the code.
Well, I mean it was Technically it was Sarah that cracked the code.
But I It was like 50/50.
- The short version, Jesse.
- Okay.
It's not about what was on the page.
The text.
It was about what was written between the lines.
The ink washed away.
But the indent was deep enough to partially show up in the photo.
So I blew it up and adjusted the contrast.
What did it say? It wasn't a note.
It was a name.
It took me a while to figure it out.
But I think I found our guy.
- - (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) DONOVAN: Kent Coolidge.
JESSE: A few years back, he robbed a pharmacy owned and run by his own father.
His father was shot and killed.
Yeah, making Kent the subject of a three-month-long manhunt.
He was never found.
It says here, he was kicked out of his first year at med school, for a prescription pill addiction.
So much for First, do no harm.
- - (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC) Thanks for letting me know.
Yeah, we're just hitting the trail again now.
Okay, I'll keep you posted.
The suspect's name is Kent Coolidge.
He's wanted for at least one other murder.
We could be in more danger than I initially thought.
Yeah, let's keep moving.
(REX BARKING) What? What is it? (REX BARKING) (GUNSHOT) - Ahh! - (REX WHINES) - Did you hear that? - Rifle shot.
Two, maybe three kilometres away.
- Let's go.
- Yeah.
Stay down.
Okay.
This isn't good.
Any ideas? (REX GROANS) Take the high ground, partner.
(REX WHINES) Rex.
Go.
(REX WHINES) (REX BARKS) Go! CASEY: End of the road, Detective! - - (DRAMATIC PERCUSSION) CASEY: On your feet! You going to shoot me in the back like you did Heath? Just drop the knife and turn around.
(KNIFE DROPPING) You don't look surprised to see me.
Yeah, I'll admit, my money was on Baron at first.
But then I started to think about that rifle, and how the bolt was on the left side.
You know, you're one of the only left-handed people in camp? Where's the dog? I sent him ahead for help.
Oh.
Help's not coming, man.
Since I'm dead already Why'd you kill Heath? One of the men in camp makes his own moonshine.
And, you know, one night we had a few, and I uh I over-shared with Heath.
You admitted to a crime.
Must've been pretty bad if the only solution was murder.
So who'd you kill in your last life? My father.
But, I didn't mean for it to happen, so Yeah, I hear that a lot.
When I sobered up, I discovered that Heath had searched my shelter.
He found my gun bag, where I kept my identification.
He learned your real name.
You know, I thought maybe, maybe Heath would be smart enough to let it go.
But, when he just left camp suddenly, I knew what he was up to.
He was going to turn you in.
You went after him.
You know what your mistake was? You left the body out where it could be found.
That couldn't be helped.
I got hit with a heavy snow squall.
I had to move the body into a rock crevice.
I was planning on coming back later in the spring, to do the job right.
Only to discover that the body had been found.
I tried to warn you away, man.
Yeah, but messing with my car? That only made me more determined.
And what about now, huh? I'm the one holding the gun.
Mm-hmm That's the thing about long-range weapons.
They're useless in close quarters.
In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not talking about me.
- - (DRAMATIC MUSIC) (GUNSHOT) Ughh! That sounded close by.
It came from this direction.
CASEY: Ugh!! (REX BARKING) SARAH: Stop! (REX BARKING) KENT: Ugh! Ugh! You okay, partner? - (REX BARKING) - (CHARLIE EMPTYING GUN) - (REX BARKING) - Kent Coolidge.
I don't know who you're talking about.
CHARLIE: Your initials are K.
C.
Doesn't take a genius, Casey.
Thanks for the assist.
Yeah.
I called for pick-up.
The chopper will be here in 30 minutes.
I hope we didn't worry you too much.
Not at all.
I knew it wasn't anything Rex couldn't handle.
(REX BARKING) (REX BARKING) JESSE: Okay, so let me get this straight.
You actually Macguyvered yourself a fire using a bubble gum wrapper and a battery? Ow! My hero! Seriously.
DONOVAN: Hey.
I just got off the phone with the prosecutor's office.
Apparently, they have enough evidence to charge Kent in his father's killing.
SARAH: And now that we've confirmed his gun matches the slug that killed Heath, we can add murder one to that.
DONOVAN: Yeah, but first we have to pay a visit to the survivalist camp to gather more evidence.
I can take care of that.
I already had Kendra requisition the Parks chopper for the trip.
You're actually going to go back there after everything that happened? Time to bring Heath home.
- - (SOFT GUITAR) Right, pal? (REX BARKS) SKYE: His life lies wide for all to see and whisper low about.
But thine was pure and undefiled.
A record of long, brilliant teeming days.
Each thought did tend to further things.
But pure as the proverbial child.
Thank you for bringing me here.
I uh, meant to return this to you before you left.
It would've made my job a whole lot easier if you had.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
I didn't know what your intentions were, when we first found you.
Am I going back to jail? That's not up to me.
But my boss said there isn't a lot of pressure to pursue your case.
Thank you.
Thank you for bringing my son back to me.
It's the least that I could do.
This was made for you.
You're part of our family now.
Rex too.
- - (SOFT MUSIC) (REX BARKING) Next time on Hudson & Rex Deep Water Defenders.
According to CSIS they are a notorious underground eco-terrorist entity.
There has been an uptick in activism given the state of our oceans.
A lot of people think it's too late for us to save the planet.
(EXPLOSION) Devon had a camera.
Find the camera, find the killer.
I did manage to get a signal coming from the bottom of the ocean.
I think we're going to need a dive master.
I'll be back.
(REX BARKS) Charlie could be in trouble! Rex!
