Franklin

Tonight on losing it There you go.
- This is hard.
- This whole week's gonna be hard.
- I'm really worried about my dad 'cause at night he can't breathe.
- Have these fears that he's just gonna die in his sleep.
- Don't say the word "can't.
" - Cannot do that.
I don't want to do that.
Quitting.
- Nope.
- We're not gonna get along.
- This guy is baiting me for a fight.
- I don't want you to smoke, 'cause it's really bad for you.
- I need the camera out.
Bye-bye.
See you.
- Go! Go, Amy! Push! Are you guys ready to see the new Todd and Amy? [cheering.]
Oh! I'm learning to live living to learn starting to sing my song right or wrong learning to live - This week I'm in Detroit, Michigan, Aka motor city.
And I'm moving in with the Franklin family.
- There's my girls! - Hi! - Dad Todd, mom Amy Nine-year-old Lily, And seven-year-old Chloe.
- I have struggled for many, many years with my weight.
If there's leftovers in here, They don't make it to the morning.
My relationship with food is very problematic.
I will eat endlessly, wildly, and anything.
- I'm really worried about my dad, 'cause at night he can't breathe when he snores.
- I wear a c-pap machine to help me breathe at night, Because I stop breathing when I sleep.
- I have these fears that he's just gonna die in his sleep.
- Two years ago, Amy had a gastric bypass.
She lost a ton of weight, opened up a new business, But then her business failed, And she started putting all the weight back on.
- When I was, you know, at a great, healthy weight, I remember telling myself That I will never get here again.
And here I am.
- D to make matters worse, She began smoking again.
- We always tell her, "we don't like it, mom.
You should stop smoking.
" And she doesn't even listen to us.
- It's my best friend.
- Me and Lily get really scared That she's gonna really get sick one day.
- Trying to get her out of the funk.
Nothing has worked so far.
And she's just got so much to offer.
She's such an unbelievable wife and mother That I want her to be her again.
- This world would be missing a super great human being If he wasn't here.
- I want to walk my daughters down the aisle.
I don't want anybody else to do it.
- Something has got to change.
- I sent the family to Dr.
Van Herle, And the results are not good.
- Amy, based on your height and build, There is an estimated weight at about 131 pounds.
- Mm-hmm.
- So you're at 184.
- Whoa.
- That really puts you back into the obese category.
- That's disgusting.
- You're almost half made up of just fat.
But one of the most serious and worrisome pieces Is the smoking, 'cause it's one of the most toxic things We can do to blood vessels.
Also, I think Chloe, um, had some asthma when she was little, And we know that there's a high correlation With smoking parents And children developing asthma, unfortunately.
Todd, let's take a look at where your weight falls.
300 pounds.
When we looked at your percentage body fat, It's 49%.
In terms of what's happening with your blood sugars, You're just at the top of the range Of what would be tipping into diabetes.
You are on a path to have a stroke, Be debilitated, or have a heart attack, Or both or all.
- Todd and Amy have two beautiful young girls, And that's why I'm here To make sure that these little kids Have their parents around for years to come.
Here we are.
See how it goes.
Right now the Franklin family Has been out with my crew, 'cause they think that they're shooting a casting video.
Little do they know they're already on the show And I'm at their house.
So I'm gonna have a look around And see if I can't get a little insight into the family.
Seriously? Ugh.
Jars of candy.
Processed food.
Blah, blah, blah.
There's literally a book For every fad diet in the last decade in here.
Of course.
Sleep apnea machine.
Find a sleep apnea machine.
I've already found cigarettes.
There's jars of candy.
Clearly these parents Aren't setting the best example for their kids.
These guys need help.
- Come on.
- Cute dog.
[laughs.]
- what? - Jillian Michaels is in our living room.
- What? - Hi there.
- Hi, I'm Todd.
- Hi, Todd.
[laughter.]
- Hi.
- Hey.
- Jillian.
Nice to meet you.
- That's Lily.
- Hi, Lily.
You Chloe? Freaked out, huh? Amy.
Hi there.
Nice to meet you.
So why don't you throw on your fitness gear, And, uh, we're gonna head out to the gym right now.
- Really? - Oh, yeah, really.
You're in shock, aren't you? Look at you.
- You've gone pale.
- Yeah.
- Okay, uh, yeah.
- That means you.
Yeah.
Last one down is a rotten egg.
- How you doing, Ame? - I need the camera out.
- Okay.
Give me a hug.
Give me a hug.
Come here.
Come here.
Come here.
Come here.
Come here.
- Just go away.
Can I change? Are you gonna film me changing too? Okay, bye-bye.
See ya.
- Usually these families are really happy to see me, And Amy's locked herself upstairs in her bedroom.
Amy, you having a meltdown? - Just feeling a little overwhelmed.
Wasn't prepared for this.
I just didn't expect to see you.
That's all.
I didn't - But you you applied for the show! - He applied for the show.
- So this is all about Todd? - Yeah.
She wants to be left out.
- Amy's upstairs freaking out, And I want to get her to the gym And see if I can figure out What this is all about.
- I'm good.
- You're sure? - Yeah, I'm good.
- All right.
Here we go.
- Let's go.
We're out.
- You want what out of this week? - I want routine change.
I want to get on a road.
- Okay.
And can you tell me why you think you haven't? - Lack of desire.
- That's conflicting.
Two seconds ago you just told me that you really want it, And now you're telling me that it's a lack of desire.
- Right.
There's cause and effect.
- Okay.
Explain that? - The cause is self-sabotage, And it stems from Uh Lack of - This guy thinks he's got it all figured out, And if that's the case, What am I doing here? Obviously he has nothing figured out.
There's four more.
Four.
And up.
Three and one.
And drop.
There you go.
- This is hard.
- Yeah, this whole week's gonna be hard.
Three more.
Yeah.
No.
Don't say the word "can't.
" Let's try not to - [sighs.]
- What part of "there are three more" Means drop the bar? I would be so happy if you legitimately threw up, Because it would mean That you're actually working that hard.
Now let's do those push-ups again.
Ten of 'em.
- We're not gonna get along.
- I'm not even yelling.
- Neither am I.
- I'm here because you just told me on the treadmill That you wanted to change your life.
I thought you really meant it.
I scream and yell at someone When I'm trying to overwhelm them and intimidate them Into an achievement.
That's not gonna work with this guy.
This guy is baiting me for a fight.
And you know what? I'm not going to give it to him.
- Can you go work out with Amy for a minute? - No.
Let's finish this.
- I got to get some water.
- Todd, I'm gonna give you a choice.
- Yeah.
- Either get back on there - Yeah? - Or tell me that you choose to stop and quit.
- I don't want to do that.
- So you quit? - Yeah.
- Yeah.
- He quit? - Yeah.
- So it's the Amy show? Thanks.
Okay.
- I know right now you're having a whole ton of emo I get it.
I'm right here yeah.
- [sobs.]
- I know.
I see it.
Now it makes perfect sense to me Why Amy was so upset and freaked out.
We haven't even begun this workout And Todd's already quit.
Let's just focus on, like, helping you.
- Great.
I'm in.
- All right.
- I'm ready.
- Me too.
All right? - Done.
Okay.
- Keep that shoulder blade packed back.
Good.
And drop the arm but not the shoulder blade.
Perfect.
Let's go nine more.
And nine.
Reverse that breathing for me, though.
- I was not wanting to pay attention To what Todd was or was not doing, Because at that moment I really didn't care.
I only want the best for him and us and our family, But I can't do this for him.
- Okay.
Mom, why don't you get your little Little monkeys, and we'll meet you at the front? - Okay.
- I didn't quit.
- No, you did.
- I don't work well being told what to do.
And I might fight it along the way a little bit.
- Todd, we don't have time for you to fight it along the way.
Todd is a perfect example Of how people get in their own way.
This little game that he's playing Is actually really sad, And it's killing him.
All right.
- We're good? - Day one.
- This is Chloe's room.
- This is my bed! - Take all the old bedding off.
- I'll help.
- Oh, pardon me.
Are we messing up your room? - With Jillian helping us, I think we can be a really good, Happy, healthy family.
- I have to tell you guys That I can't feel my inner thighs.
Big daddy, why aren't you feeling the pain? - I don't know.
I feel good right now.
I'm still sweating, though.
- Oh, I see.
- It's clear that Amy and Todd Love each other very, very much, But she's resenting the hell out of him for not changing, And I think with Todd, A lot of it's gonna be kind of clearing the path For him to be successful, But not necessarily pushing him down it.
He's rebellious.
You know, I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, But this one's pretty tough.
Coming up on losing it It's midnight.
- I've been known to grab boards of matzah And dip it in the butter.
- What? - We don't want you to smoke, 'cause it's really bad for you.
- I love it.
- Do you love your kids more? - What are you doing? - Um - It's midnight.
- I know.
Well - What? What's go - I'm doing what I I just kind of - Okay, wait.
- Graze, and I go back and forth.
- Every night? - Several nights a week.
- Several? - I just I eat.
I'll come in and, uh I'll eat a couple pieces of salami.
A piece of cheese.
I'll drink a pop.
I've been known to grab boards of matzah And dip it in the butter.
- What? - Mm-hmm.
It's a self-deprecating, Lonely affair that I have with food.
I don't want my family upstairs to hear me eating.
It's I'm ashamed.
- All right.
The first thing we're gonna do tomorrow Is I want to get rid of all these things, So they're not accessible.
We have a long day tomorrow, so beat it.
- Okay.
- I want you out of the kitchen before me.
We got to get rid of some of the unhealthy stuff.
So what do you think we should get rid of first? - This.
Let's see the calories.
- [laughs.]
let's do it.
100% chicken broth.
Okay, here's the only issue with this.
You need reduced sodium, babe.
It's gonna put your blood pressure through the roof.
These breads aren't good for them.
We got healthier breads.
[Chloe whimpers.]
- It's okay, honey.
Why? I know, sweetie.
- Chloe, come here for a sec.
Can I show you something? So, peanut, do you see All these little things in there? - Uh-huh.
- Those are all nuts and seeds and whole grains.
What do you see in there? - Nothing.
- There's nothing good for you in there.
So can I throw it away? All right.
Hook it up.
- My mom's smoking.
- What? - She's smoking.
- What do you want me to do? - Tell her to stop.
- Tell her to stop.
- Will you do it with me? - Yeah.
- Come on.
What's happening? - Hey.
Are we having a family intervention right now? - We don't want you to smoke.
- When mom smokes, how do you feel? - Feel sad, 'cause it's really bad for you.
You can get sick.
- You guys are super, super smart.
- I thought you were smart, mom.
Apparently you're not.
- Hey, little monsters, do me a favor.
- Yeah? - Make something yummy.
- Okay.
- No bacon, okay? - No bacon.
- Good luck.
- I can't stop.
- Amy.
- I love it.
- Do you love your kids more? - Yeah, I do.
It needs to come to an end.
I'm very aware of that.
And I knew that you coming here, This was going to be the end of it for me, So I have very much mentally prepared myself for it.
- [laughs.]
okay.
The reality is that, you know, This woman doesn't care about me.
She doesn't even know me.
She's not gonna quit smoking because I tell her to.
She has to understand and appreciate, You know, this is really upsetting her kids.
- I'm gonna stop smoking.
I had There's no more smoking.
Oh, I love you, cookie puss.
- But you made a deal with me When I got back from camp smoking was done.
- Right.
- And that was last year.
- Well, now I'm making a commitment to stop.
- Well, I don't believe you.
- I understand that.
Why don't I prove it to you? Who's the strongest woman you know? - Ooh.
- You and her.
- So we have one cigarette left.
What do you think we do with this? - Smoke it.
- You just promised them! - Right.
I did.
Think we should bury it? - Where is it? - Ooh.
Okay, let's bury it.
Dig deep.
Dig deep.
- What are we doing? - We're burying my last cigarette.
- [laughs.]
I love this.
This is great.
I'm happy to see those go.
Today she seems to have made a decision That I'm hoping works.
I'm hoping she's build on this strength That she showed today for the rest of the week.
We've achieved something big today.
Awesome, chief.
Let's do it.
Okay, hands up.
Jab.
Jab.
Jab.
Today I want to work out with Todd and Amy separately.
These guys need to do this for themselves as individuals.
Get those hands up.
One.
Good.
Nine.
Todd quit immediately yesterday, And hopefully he's not gonna do the same thing today.
Five, four, three, harder.
Two, one.
Two more.
Let me see it.
No.
Come on.
No.
Todd.
No.
Todd.
Begin.
Come on.
Ugh! Ugh! One more.
Go again.
Push.
Come on, Todd.
Are you gonna give up? Are you? Push! Three, two, one.
Ten seconds.
Ten seconds.
Ten seconds.
Ten.
[Velcro rips.]
No, you're not done boxing.
No, no, no.
- Yeah, I'm done.
- Let's go.
- I'm done.
- No.
- I'm quitting.
- You're quitting? - Yeah.
- You're sure? - Go help Amy, would you? I'm done.
I'm done.
I can't do anymore.
I'm fine.
- I'm not here to beg anyone to let me help them.
Todd quit again.
Game over.
I'm gonna let him think about it, Give him zero attention, And go focus on Amy.
Sit all the way up.
I don't know if I can get all the way up.
- One.
I guess you can.
Two.
Okay, Amy, here's the thing.
I'm trying to get a feel for what it's gonna take To get you guys motivated.
- I need to get back to where I was.
That is what's gonna make me happy.
- What happened? - When I lost my business, It just felt Terrible.
- One.
Lift that knee.
Two.
How are you feeling about Todd? - He didn't like the other Amy.
He didn't like it when I was fit and healthy Amy.
- Have you told him that? - I do a lot of tip-toeing around him, Because no one wants to set Todd off, you know? - What I've gotten from Amy Is that she gave up on her healthier life Because Todd wasn't on board.
It's all the tip-toeing that's creating the problems here.
It's all the things that you guys aren't doing, Aren't saying, and aren't expressing That are creating issues.
Why don't you show me a little bit of that fighter? You got to fight.
- [exhales.]
Yeah, but then - Yep.
- My husband could leave me if I fight back.
- If someone left you Because you were true to yourself, Then they wouldn't be the right person for you.
Amy has been walking on eggshells, 'cause she's afraid that if she upsets Todd It's gonna hurt the marriage.
The only way to change this dynamic Is to get Amy to stand up for herself.
Hands are up? Are you worthless? - No.
- Are you not smart enough? - No.
- Show me.
Show me.
Show me.
Go.
Go.
Ten seconds.
Go! Go, Amy! Go! Five, four, three, two, one.
- Jillian's waking me up a little bit.
I think parts of me are going to change 'cause she was here, And that part is getting up And get my ass back into shape.
She's a giant inspiration to me.
- It's the end of my second day here.
Todd quit again today.
I have to find a positive way to motivate this guy, Because I am not gonna give him a fight.
Tomorrow I'm gonna meet Todd's friends, And see if I can't build a support group for this guy.
Because I definitely need a little help with him.
He's a A challenge.
- Oh! Maybe not.
Oh, Jillian.
What's up? Oh.
I thought I had a strike.
[men cheering.]
- Take some of that! Yeah.
I came down to the bowling alley Because Todd supposedly has this amazing group Of supportive friends.
I want to understand this dynamic.
- This is Marc.
He's an important person in my life.
He's a marathon runner.
He pushes me.
He takes me to help me swim.
- Cut out articles from my running magazines.
- How's it been working out? - I see him doing things, And then it kind of fades.
It just sort of goes away.
- I thought I was gonna come here and, you know, Try to get them to help, And what I ended up learning Is that as they would talk about, like, Their desperation to help him, He began to light up like a child.
- You know, I'm worried about him.
I'm worried about him, you know, being healthy.
- When you're the screw up, you get all this attention.
So why would he ever change? He doesn't want that love to stop.
I don't know that it's helping you in the long run, though.
I'm almost feeling like they should stop, Because it's not working.
- It'd be frustrating, 'cause my dad died I was 20, and it was a life-changing, Devastating thing.
And I, from the day I met Todd, loved him.
- You don't want to see that happen again.
- Right.
- I get it, but you're not gonna be able to stop him.
He'll stop him.
Todd will stop Todd.
Change the dialogue.
I want Todd to have a new identity.
I want Todd to be one of the guys.
I want Todd to run the 5ks with them And get affirmed that way, Because that's what he needs more than anything.
- I'm hoping that in the next few days Something major clicks, But I don't sense it yet.
I just I just don't see it yet.
- It's the morning of day three.
Kids are at school.
I'm gonna try to spend the day with Amy And see if I can't connect with her.
Hey, Todd, you're off the hook for a few hours, 'cause I'm gonna spend a little time with the Ame-ster.
- Okay.
Good.
- You're gonna run out and grab us A little something to eat.
- Okay.
- So I'm gonna scoot you off to subway, Since we're trying to diet.
I want the vegetarian.
Skip the cheese right now.
Saves lots of calories.
- I'll absolutely do it.
- I'll see you in a few.
- Okay.
- Hi.
Welcome to subway.
- Hi.
How are you? - What can I get for you? - When did you start serving breakfast? - We just started that recently.
- Really? - Yeah.
- Okay, well, I'm here for lunch today, But that's actually a good thing to know.
Can I get a foot-long, uh, veggie delight? When you cut it, can you scoop out the inside? The bread? - Okay.
- I'm actually gonna need three of those.
- Three? - All of 'em no cheese.
See you soon.
I'll be back again.
Have a good day.
- I'm walking down these stairs like I'm injured.
- There were things that worked for this woman at one time.
She had lost weight.
She was getting her life in order.
So I want to find out what was working for her, And see if we can't bring some of those things Back in her life again.
You know, where can you identify The sources of support in your life? - I used to go to the yoga studio.
I was going there because someone brought me there, And I hadn't started exercising yet.
This was after my gastric bypass.
The moment I walked in class, Within 41/2 minutes, I was crying.
And within 12 minutes I was never leaving.
- Yeah.
- You know, that's a huge, huge moment for me.
Like, the first time in my entire life Where I thought I'd never be accepted Into, like, a wellness or fitness community.
- So what we're gonna do Is talk about maybe getting you back into yoga.
Because it was a real pillar of strength for you.
It was the best of you.
- It was.
- So we're gonna do this.
- Okay.
[bell dings.]
- Yeah.
One, two.
Go.
- Dig in.
Dig in.
Come on.
Hands up.
Go.
Stay.
I brought Amy and Todd to the boxing ring Because these guys need to have it out.
I want these guys to start telling each other What they need, And get all the cards and issues out on the table So they can be dealt with.
- One, two, three - Tell her what you want from her.
Tell her what you expect.
- What do you want? - New you.
New you.
This is the new you.
No more smoking, okay? We're done smoking.
Yoga Amy! - Now, what do you want from Todd? - I need him to fix himself.
- Okay.
- That's what he needs to do.
I can't do it anymore.
- Tell him.
- Going on 15 years.
Together.
I'm not gonna ask you what's wrong.
- I don't want you to.
- 'cause I don't want to hear it anymore.
- I know you don't.
Let me prove to you that you should care.
- You need to just do it.
'cause I'm leaving if you don't.
- I'll prove it to you.
Okay? I'll prove it to you.
- I don't want to leave.
- I know you don't.
- But I will.
- Okay.
- That's it.
- I'm with you.
- When Amy laid down that ultimatum with Todd - We're done! - I know.
- The dam just burst.
If this doesn't give Todd the kick in the ass That he needs to get his life back on track, Nothing's going to.
I think you're in a good place Where you're expressing hurt, You're expressing anger, And no one's - Suppressed.
It's on the table.
- It's on the table.
- It's all out there.
- And it needs to stay on the table.
All right? - Okay.
- Amy finally said her piece.
She finally stood her ground.
She finally just let it all go.
And Todd didn't quit and stepped up And made a commitment.
Now let's see if they can continue these behaviors And hope for the best.
- Love you.
- I love you too.
- Coming up on losing it - I'd be really, really sad if you died.
- But if you can't do this with me, I'm going to do it for myself, And where it will take us, I don't know.
- Dad, come out here! - Brownie time.
- Whoo! - Okay, so we're starting with the honey.
So we need 2/3 cups of honey.
These are my favorite.
These brownies are rock stars.
Oh, perfect.
Stop it.
Ha ha.
Nicely done.
Eating healthy doesn't mean That you have to give up all the foods that you love.
I want to show the kids You can have things that taste good But are healthier for you.
Go for it.
We're gonna make brownies today.
We're using apple sauce and honey Instead of processed white sugar.
We're using olive oil instead of butter.
We're using whole grain flour.
Yeah! Whisk! - I never knew making healthy brownies was so much fun.
- Oh, that's pretty.
Ready to hit the oven? The brownies are in the oven.
We had fun.
The kids were invested.
And they're gonna taste great.
So you see? You can get your kids excited About healthy treat foods.
And that's a big part Of leading a healthy lifestyle as a family.
Don't you dare touch me with those little fingers.
- Touching! - No! - Nice to meet you.
- Well, good.
- He's definitely okay? - Don't get nervous, all right? - We're having a dinner.
Todd and Amy are cooking, preparing.
- Oh, my God! - Okay, I'll give you some lamb salad.
- So could I eat this instead? - It's not ideal.
- What am I supposed to eat right now? - Chicken, salad, hummus.
And one or two pieces of pita.
I want Todd's friends to jump into him one last time.
And what I'm hoping Is that we're gonna drive this thing home tonight.
And then I want them to stop with the enabling, Stop with the pleading.
He either does it or he doesn't.
Since we have such an incredible group of friends here With such amazing insight I thought, Todd, that we might give them an opportunity To say what they've been thinking With regard to you.
[dramatic music.]
Michael, will you, uh, Say what's in your heart and on your mind? - Some of these things I've said before, you know? I love you, and, um The truth is I'd be really, really sad if you died.
Really sad.
And your kids would be.
And your wife would be.
And your friends would be.
- I know that you go to the sleep center And that you stop breathing 8,000 times every night.
I talk to you about it, But I don't tell you how scared I am.
No one wants to lose you.
And if you want a partner, if you want help, I'll help you.
Every time.
But I'm not gonna bug you to do it.
- I agree.
- Hi, mom.
- Hi.
You know how I worry about you.
You know, when I talk to the girls And they tell me, "I'm afraid my dad's gonna have a heart attack" I mean, the thought of burying you I can't even begin to tell you.
- It goes on deeper levels for you and I, Because you're my husband.
I love you so much.
You know how much I love you.
So I want you here with me, And I want you on board with me.
I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
- Love you.
- But if you can't do this with me Know I'm going to do it for myself, And where it will take us, I don't know.
Seriously.
- I mean, I love you.
I'm so sorry.
Thank you for finding me on my island.
- What's it gonna be? - I'm on board.
I mean, this is where I need to be.
It feels right.
- Damn it.
You guys.
- I don't want to have a stroke.
I don't want to be paralyzed.
I don't want to be not here.
Amy, I don't want your help.
I want to help myself.
I don't want your help anymore.
Stop helping me.
- There you go.
- Let me help me.
- Okay.
- Don't take care of me anymore.
You can make dinner [laughter.]
But don't take care of me anymore.
- A lot of people that love you.
- I feel so lucky.
So, so lucky To have this many people that are willing To come here and have dinner And to ignore me down the road.
But that's out of care.
And I'm gonna do everything in my power To make sure that I do what I need to do To help me get off of the place that I'm at, And I truly, truly believe it, And I feel that feeling.
- Um, well, I think that's a lot to digest.
Thank you for being extraordinarily brave.
I totally believe you.
Well, I think you guys have a lot to process, huh? - We're sitting with my family and my friends, And them pouring all of that out.
You're like my brother.
- I love you too.
- I was taking all of that in In a way that I never have in my entire life, And not getting defensive.
I love you.
And realizing that, you know what? It's embarrassing to act the way and the manner that I was.
You know, what intelligent man Goes out and just kills themselves by eating food? - Last night was really all about you And where your head's at And how you want to move forward in your life.
- Mm-hmm.
- I'm taking Amy to yoga today.
- Okay.
- Today's really the first day Of the rest of your life - Uh-huh.
- And it's all about how you want to spend it.
- I got a freebie.
For a little bit.
- We'll see how it plays.
- Okay.
[phone ringing.]
- Hello? - Hey.
- Hey, what's going on? - So I'm sitting here thinking to myself, You know, uh, all the conversation And things that we had yesterday, And me taking, you know, kind of, like, The bull by the horns, Uh, I wanted to see if maybe you wanted to go swimming For a little bit and maybe hang out for a while.
- Of course.
You want to do it, like, soon? - Yeah.
- All right, buddy.
- Later.
- It was good to see Todd take the step to call me And just say, "hey, you want to go for a swim?" - I'm excited.
- You're, uh - I'm a bit tired.
- In for a treat.
Last night a lot of really strong things were said By myself and by everybody else that were there.
I sort of said, "I'll believe it when I see it," And he called, and I said, "great.
" Whether that's a huge step or a small step, I don't know, but it's a step.
- Mark is seeing the flower Of that seriousness that I have, And it's just gonna continue.
I busted my butt in the pool today.
I was there to swim.
Hope that he believes more and more That every time I call him I'm more and more serious, Which he takes more and more seriously.
- Okay.
- We're here.
- How you feeling? - Doing good.
- I'm ready? I'm excited.
- You're excited? - I'm excited.
- All right.
Come on.
- Shift your attention to your breath.
Arms come up over your head.
Beautiful.
That's it.
Really beautiful, long lines of energy here.
Flexibility without strength is instability.
Feel this beautiful balance.
Really strong.
Whole body literally shaking itself into shape.
- I'm impressed by Amy.
I think this environment Is where Amy is most in her element.
I mean, she was incredible.
- I am feeling happy.
Good happy.
Um, loved.
It was pretty great.
That was perfect.
- Welcome back.
- Thank you.
That was perfect.
Perfect.
- How are you not freezing? This is cold.
We've made a lot of progress.
Todd has reconciled a lot of things With the adults in his life, But he hasn't made any promises To the two most important people in his life Chloe and Lily.
- Oh, no! - Yeah! Ha ha! Listen, just 'cause you're nine Doesn't mean I'm gonna let you people win.
I think those kids really need to hear from dad That he's committed to getting healthy And sticking around.
All right.
Who's tired? - Me! - I'm actually you know what I think I want to do? I want to talk to you guys a little bit.
- Where? - Well, maybe over there on the bench.
- I want to hear what dad has to say.
- I've worked very, very hard this week, And I've realized how important you guys are to me And how important I am to you.
And I plan on doing a lot of things differently Than I've done for a long time, And so does mom.
But I just want you to know that I'm here for you, And that we're gonna do all this together as a family, okay? - You don't think they can do it if I'm not here? - I think they can.
It's just gonna be a lot tougher.
- But I'm gonna prove it to you, okay? And I'm gonna use all the opportunities that I have So that I can be here for you Forever and ever and ever.
When I started this process, I don't even know who I was.
I don't even know.
It's like I was sleepwalking.
And I see that now.
I have all the power in the world To change my life, And I'm gonna do everything that I can To be here for the girls.
That's the commitment that I'm making to my kids.
- Thank you for making us happy, healthy, altogether.
- Oh! - I will miss Jillian Because she helped us with everything we needed to know About being healthy, and I really appreciated it.
- Aw.
- She was crying when she got here, And now she's crying when she leaves.
- Exactly, Chloe.
I feel grateful to have even had this experience, Because it really has brought Some perspective into our lives.
- Thanks again.
When Jillian comes back, She is going to see Todd in a different light.
All the little defensive postures that I have Are not gonna be there anymore.
She's just gonna see a happy family.
- Good-bye! - Amy's moving forward on her path, I'm moving forward on my path, And together we're that much stronger.
- I've taught the Franklins Everything they need to be successful.
Now it's up to them.
- I'm still resistant.
I don't know.
I don't know if I'm capable Of something like this.
- It's tough to lose weight.
Why am I doing all this? My body's not changing.
- It's difficult to juggle it all.
- So what do you think? Should we bring 'em out? [crowd cheering.]
Oh! Coming up on losing it.
- America, it's been six weeks, And I'm back in Detroit, Michigan To check in on the Franklin family.

Let's do it.
- Dad, come out here! [cheers and applause.]

And it's so nice to see her Looking and feeling empowered.
You look wonderful.
- Speech! Speech! Speech! - Speech! Speech! - Speech! Speech! Speech! - Okay, so I've lost 33 pounds.
Most of you know I used to sleep with a sleeping machine, And I stopped using that two weeks ago.
- Yes! - And I want to thank Jillian For everything that she's done for my family and for me, And I'm just so proud that Amy's here with me, For me, and I'm here for her, And and this is just a wonderful, wonderful day, And I'm so happy everybody could be here.

- Now, six weeks ago - Oh, gosh.
- When I met this family - Wasn't pretty.
- I was worried.
Not gonna lie.
- Yeah, me too.
- Smoker.
Late-night binger.
And you've done more in six weeks Than I think most people do in a lifetime.
The issues that you've dealt with, The work that you've done on yourselves, Giving up cigarettes and dealing with food issues Is really amazing.
And because these two are so important to you, I want to do my part in insuring their future as well, So jillianmichaels.
Com wants to start college funds For both the girls.
- Whoa.
- Wow.
- So this is for you guys.

Who's coming? I want to go.
Most importantly, their relationship is healthier, And when they continue to build on that foundation, The sky's gonna be the limit for them.
- I look good, huh? I look like you.
- I think Todd's on the right track, And I'm proud of the accomplishments He made in 6 1/2 weeks.
I really think he's gonna grow old with all of us, And it's great.
It's really a good feeling.

Yoga has made me feel really good, And it is definitely something that I'm going to continue.
Todd and I are on our way back To just where we belong.
We were both searching for other things To make our lives more complete When it was all right here.
We have each other.
This is my life, and I love it.
- This whole experience has been nothing short of a miracle.
My relationship with my wife has never been better.
It's all about us as a family.
I go to play soccer, hang out with my kids, And they notice the difference.
I wasn't sure six weeks ago How long I would be here for them, And now I feel like I'll be here for a long time.
What I want Jillian to know Is that I'll be forever grateful for the opportunity.
This is the start of my new life.
