SNAFU

1
Previously on SWAT
What's up, Leroy?
Come on, man. Blood in,
blood out, you're still a Hammer.
I'm too old to matter to the young G's.
Man, I'm out of the game.
You and me may have gone
down different paths, man,
but we still want some
of the same things.
We keep an eye out for our people,
and we show up for the community
- because we care.
- [SIGHS]
- Just texting with Thomas.
- DEACON: Thomas?
- Your son?
- I reached out after you got his info.
We're making plans.
I looked him up a while back
trying to figure out what he's like.
ALFARO: He plays guitar. That's cool.
SWAT has been the priority
in my life for a long time.
- It's time to make a change.
- So, this is your formal notice?
I'll give you a few weeks.
Help with the transition.
We'll figure this out.

[WHIRRING]

DEACON: Shooters, unload.
Make your weapons safe and reholster.
- Hoskins, gold star.
- Mm-hmm.
Myers, very nice.
Sandefur
There may be hope for you yet.
Excellent grouping.
Jimenez. Do you know
what this is telling me?
You're slapping the trigger.
Squeeze, don't pull.
When we wrap up,
I want you to get in
some dry-fire exercise.
I believe that every single one of you
is capable of making SWAT.
The question is, do you believe?
Because that's what really matters.
Self-belief.
You got that and you got
as good a shot as anyone.
All right, I'll see you all
back here at 1900 hours.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER]
[EXHALES]
Your last SWAT Academy.
They seem like a promising bunch, Deac.
There's some real talent
in this year's class.
Gonna be hard to choose five recruits.
You certainly got their ear.
Yeah. Well, that's
that's kind of why
I invited you down here.
With my retirement coming up,
I need to choose someone
to take over SWAT Academy for me.
I was hoping that someone would be you.
Uh
You look surprised. What do you think?
I'm honored. It means a lot, Deac.
But I-I'm gonna need
some time to mull it over.
- If that's okay.
- Yeah, yeah, of course.
Look, I know it's a big commitment,
but believe me,
you're the right man for the job.
Yo, Powell,
that ultra marathon
you're running next month,
- how many miles is that?
- 40.
- Hardcore.
- What?
40 miles, straight? Why?
- 'Cause I like running.
- ALFARO: Sure.
But if you win, how big is the prize?
POWELL: There's no prize.
Just a medal for completion.
CABRERA: Not everything needs
to have a reward, Alfaro.
Sometimes just
the act of doing is enough.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to disagree.
In my book, there's no reward,
there's no reason.
Especially if you're running 40 miles.
Alfaro and Cabrera, I appreciate
you being on call with us.
Anytime, Deac.
Oh, it's an honor to roll with 20-Squad.
DEACON: Glad to hear it.
How do y'all feel about partaking
in a little friendly competition today?
What'd you have in mind?
SWAT Tag.
What's SWAT Tag?
TAN: 20-Squad tradition.
Inside this helmet are four tickets.
One of them is gold.
Whoever draws the gold ticket
is the current winner.
After that, it's open season because
It's not enough to just
draw the gold ticket.
You got to hold it, all day.
Break any SWAT rule or regulation,
no matter how tiny the infraction,
- you're fair game to get tagged.
- DEACON: If you get tagged,
you've got to give the gold ticket up
to the person who tagged you.
Whoever ends up with the gold ticket
at the end of the day
- Wins.
- What's the prize?
Two backstage passes to
John Mayer Saturday night.
Compliments of my security company.
POWELL: What are we waiting on?
Let's get this party started.
[BLOWS]
Hey.
All right, Cabrera.
Game on.
All right, better watch your six.
I'm coming for those tickets.
Give it your best shot, Alfaro.
Hey, uh, Maria, are you still there?
Yeah, no, I was just grabbing my usual.
Hey, will you shift
Mr. Wroten to 2:00 p.m.?
Yeah, I forgot that I have
to pick my son up
from baseball practice.
Okay. I'll see you back at the office.
- Bye, Maria.
- [GUNSHOT]
[SCREAMING, CLAMORING]
[CLAMORING CONTINUES]
[SIREN WAILING]
All right, witnesses say
they saw a muzzle flash
come from the tenth floor
of a nearby office building.
Couple patrol units were nearby,
sealed off the stairs
and elevators right away,
so the shooter should still be inside.
- Any hostages?
- HONDO: Negative.
The entire building's been
vacant since the pandemic.
Tough market.
- Who's the victim?
- HONDO: An attorney.
Phil Stoller. Don't know
if he was the intended victim
or targeted at random.
One minute out!
All right, we don't know
what we're going up against in there.
So stay on alert. Be ready for anything.
Did you get tac'd up
in the dark, Cabrera?
Crooked helmet patch.
Ugh.
Hey, don't hate the player.
Hate the game.
HONDO: Come on, Deac,
tell me you're not
gonna miss all of this
- when you retire.
- What's that?
Being trapped in a metal box
with Alfaro's cheap cologne?
[ALL LAUGHING]
I welcome retirement.
[LAUGHS]

No visual yet on the shooter.
- Okay, thanks.
- Yep.
Patrol secured the hallway
within minutes of the shooting.
No one's been in or out.
Alfaro, you're up.
Left side clear.
CABRERA: Right side clear.
20-David to Command. Tenth floor clear.
Deacon
This is where he fired from.
He didn't leave any evidence behind.
DEACON: That's got to
be at least 400 yards.
Shooter's got some talent.
POWELL: I think I found something.
Look at these.
Rock climbing anchors.
He managed to open the window.
I think he rappelled out of here.
That must be how he slipped by Patrol.
Patrol finished their sweep
of the building.
No cameras. No sign of the shooter.
He's in the wind.
He was out of here in seconds.
Powell was right. [PANTING]
I found a rappelling rope
in the dumpster in the alley.
Forensics is bagging it up.
You went dumpster diving?
Anything for the mission, Deac.
[CHUCKLES] I don't think ramen
noodle is SWAT regulation.
Cough up the ticket.
Seriously?
I was collecting evidence.
Well, LAPD
- does have a hygiene code.
- POWELL: Mm.
Your keepers are undone, Powell.
Sorry.
[SARCASTIC LAUGH]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER]
Store owner said
the victim, Phil Stoller, was a regular.
Every day, same time, like clockwork.
Which means the shooter
could've known he'd be here.
Making this look more and more
like a targeted assassination.
Given the distance of the shot,
and repelling down
ten stories to escape,
I'm willing to bet
that our shooter is military.
I think your suspicion
is correct, Sergeant.
Burrows, I didn't know
RHD had you on this.
Uh, they don't.
At least not yet. But I just came
from an eerily similar scene
in South L.A.
A few hours ago,
three 20th Street Hammers were shot
outside their clubhouse
from over 500 yards.
Three shots. Three hits.
All center mass.
Shooter didn't leave a trace.
Military-level precision.
Same as our victim here.
You said the Hammers? Hondo,
that's Leroy's old set, right?
- Yeah.
- I think whoever shot this lawyer,
shot the Hammers. Which means
We may have a spree
shooter on the loose.
Hate to say I told you so,
but ballistics confirms
that Phil Stoller and
the three dead Hammers
were all shot with the same rifle.
Using .300 Winchester Magnum rounds.
That's some major-league ammo.
And a favorite of military snipers.
Great.
So we have a rappelling,
sharpshooting assassin
somewhere out in the city
using bullets big enough
to take down a buffalo.
And no idea where he might strike next.
We've been looking
into the attorney, Phil Stoller.
Interesting character.
Built a rep for defending street gangs.
Street gangs? He ever
work with the Hammers?
Hammers, One-Niners, Golden Boys
You name it, Stoller repped them.
Guy was an absolute shark.
So far, we haven't found anything
that connects Stoller
to the three Hammers
killed this morning,
but we're still looking.
Stoller's office is
sending over his docket,
every case he worked
for the past six months.
If we can find a direct link
between these three Hammers and Stoller,
maybe it can get us to the shooter.
Let me know if you
come up with anything.
Forensics lab said they couldn't
pull any prints off
the office we raided.
This shooter's practically a ghost.
Anything on the rappelling rope?
Standard high-tensile strength nylon.
Same stuff we use.
- Army and Navy, too.
- Hondo's meeting up with Leroy
to see if he can get any leads
on the Hammers' side of things.
Hey, uh
No pressure, but have you
given any thought to my offer?
Yeah, I'm gonna have to pass, man.
I can't do it.
What? Why not?
Look, you know better than anybody
that running SWAT Academy
isn't just selecting
the best of the best.
It's shepherding the future of SWAT.
These recruits need someone
at your level, Deac, not at mine.
But you're a model SWAT officer.
Where's this coming from?
It wasn't that long ago I got
into a bar fight. I got benched.
You are the only person
in this entire building
still hung up on that.
I just think you'd be
better off choosing someone
with more experience,
like Stevens or Rocker.
If I thought that they
were better options,
I would've offered them
the position.
Look, if you really don't want it,
it's your choice.
I just think you're
selling yourself short.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER]
[CAR DOOR CLOSES]
- I'll be right back.
- [CRYING]
That's Kima Davis.
Her son, Anwan,
was one of the three boys
who got hit this morning.
Her daddy and me used to roll together
back when I was with the Hammers.
Little Charles, remember him?
- Mm-hmm.
- Yeah.
He didn't make it past 20 neither.
What can you tell me
about this shooting?
Not much, man, uh
Shooter lit a Hammer's car
on fire to draw 'em.
About ten of them came out
and he picked off three of 'em.
And the word is he shot at 'em from
the roof of the library down the street.
There was a second shooting
today, Leroy. Happened downtown.
Similar MO. Same shooter.
Yeah, yeah, I saw it on the news.
Lot of cameras showed up when
the white lawyer gets shot.
Even SWAT rolled out, man.
Nothing ever changes.
Come on, don't do that.
This ain't about politics, Leroy.
I want whoever did this,
just like you do.
I don't want no more mothers
crying over their boys today.
Look, I know you've been
out the game for a while,
but you got any idea if the
Hammers got beef with anybody?
Could these shootings
be some sort of retaliation?
Outside of some stash houses
getting hit here and there,
the neighborhood's been quiet.
Come on, man.
Khalif Carter?
That's your name.
Set leader, right?
Can we talk?
Don't know what we need to talk about.
Hondo's good people, man.
I already told your friends
nobody around here saw nothin'.
Three Hammers got shot
outside your clubhouse
and nobody knows nothing?
With all the eyes that you got
on all these corners?
Wasn't much to see.
They didn't come in heavy or loud.
Them boys got slicked, long-distance.
All right, what about before that?
When they set that car on fire?
Somebody had to see something.
Like I said, we ain't got
nothin' for you, homie.
Now, if you don't mind,
I'm-a go return to my people.
He knows more than he's letting on.
LEROY: Course he does,
but what do you expect, man?
Hammers don't rely on cops.
They're gonna take care
of their own payback.
I know.
That's what I'm worried about.
Hey, there's no selfies in HQ.
Sorry. It's
Alfaro still has the gold ticket,
and when I take it back,
I just want to make sure
that I'm all squared away.
Actually, Cabrera already
pulled it from Alfaro,
who then lost it to Tan.
Got it.
I noticed you and Alfaro
are taking SWAT Tag
pretty seriously, huh?
Alfaro's just planning
to scalp the tickets.
I caught him looking up
their resale value online.
Always an angle with him, huh?
What about you?
Why are you going so hard?
I mean, I can't let some 50-Squad punk
beat us at our own game.
I'm going hard for the team.
ALFARO: Hey, guys.
I-I did some more digging.
Turns out that Stoller
did represent our dead Hammers.
We didn't catch it at first
because the charges
were dropped before they went
to trial. Four months ago,
these three were arrested for the murder
of a 21-year-old USC student,
Samantha Leonard.
POWELL: Samantha Leonard.
I remember her.
She was in nursing school.
She got hit by a stray bullet
in her apartment.
Yeah. According to the incident report,
Samantha was studying for an exam
when three Hammers broke
into a stash house next door
and things got ugly.
In the melee, a bullet pierced through
Samantha's bedroom wall, killing her.
And where did they pick up these three?
ALFARO: At a gas station nearby.
They hired Stoller as their
attorney, but a week later,
the Deputy D.A. assigned to the case
dropped all charges,
citing insufficient evidence.
They got cut loose.
POWELL: Whoa, check this out.
Samantha's father, Elijah Leonard,
is a former Navy SEAL.
He was his team's sniper.
He's got to be our shooter.
Who was the Deputy D.A.
that dropped the charges?
Elliot Thayer.
So, if Leonard's the shooter
and he's seeking revenge
for the murder of his daughter,
then Thayer might be his next target.
Get the D.A.'s office on
the line. We got to warn them.
On it.
Is there an address for Elijah Leonard?
POWELL: Just an
apartment down in San Diego.
Only local reference
is an ex-wife, Diana.
She lives in Silver Lake.
I'll tell Hondo.
Maybe the ex-wife can help us find him.
You grab Tan,
bring Thayer in for protection.
POWELL: Got it.
Thayer's still not answering.
His assistant said he's been
in a deposition all morning.
Phone's probably on silent.
Tan, your boot's untied.
- Nice one, Powell.
- [ELEVATOR DINGS]
[ELEVATOR DOORS OPEN]
Deputy D.A. Thayer?
POWELL: LAPD. Hello?
- So this is the ex-wife's house?
- Yeah.
She and Elijah were
high school sweethearts.
Got hitched right
before Elijah enlisted.
Divorce came six years later.
Diana took Samantha and moved to L.A.
while Elijah stayed in San Diego.
Well, hopefully she'll
be able to tell us
where to find him before it's too late.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER]
- What the hell is this?
- POWELL: We need everyone
to step away from the windows, now.
No, no, officer, we're in the
middle of a deposition here.
Deputy D.A. Thayer, we're LAPD SWAT.
We believe your life may be in danger.
Diana Leonard?
Yes. What can I do for you?
Ma'am, we'd like to talk to you
about your ex-husband.
We need to find him.
Elijah? He's just in the kitchen.
He's inside the house?
Ma'am, will you step outside please?
What's going on?
Please, just wait outside.
Hands!
- Let me see your hands!
- ALFARO: Hands!
Hands!
What's this about?
TAN: Counselor, this is
for your own protection, please.
This is ridiculous. If you only knew
- what my workload is.
- [PHONE BUZZES]
- I need to get this done.
- I understand.
Is there maybe an interior office
- you could move to?
- It's Hondo.
They have Elijah Leonard in custody.
Sounds like you got your guy,
so can I please get
on with my deposition?
Yes, of course.
Sorry for the interruption.
- Shooter!
- [GUNSHOT]
THAYER: Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!
- TAN: Move!
- Move!
Go! Go! Stay low, stay low!
Everyone stay low!
Get away from the windows!
28-David, shots fired
from the brick building
on 48th and Jefferson.
Get down, get down!
Anyone hit?
All good.
Officers are on their way.
Stay here until they arrive.
Powell, let's move!
- Stop the car!
- Stop, stop, stop!
- LAPD!
- [HORN HONKS]
[PANTING] He's gone.
We just missed him.
Damn it!
Got it, thanks. That was Burrows.
RHD finished up their canvass downtown.
No sign of the shooter.
This doesn't make any sense.
Elijah Leonard's a military sniper
with every motivation to do this.
Well, he definitely didn't
take that shot at Thayer.
What?
Both shootings this morning
were dead-center hits
at over 400 yards.
This one was, what, maybe 80 yards?
Even with our intervention,
a trained sniper's
not missing at that range.
What're you saying?
You think there's a second shooter?
Maybe.
Hondo's got Elijah Leonard
in interrogation now.
We'll just have to wait and see
if anything shakes loose.
Yeah.
HONDO: We have four targeted
killings and an attempted fifth.
And all of it ties back
to your daughter's murder.
So some justice
has finally been meted out
over Samantha's death.
What part of that
should I feel bad about?
Where were you this morning?
I went for a drive. A long drive.
Where to?
[SCOFFS] Wherever.
Y-You're fishing, Sergeant Harrelson.
You got nothing on me.
If you did, I would've
been charged already.
So, let's cut the BS.
Fine.
Straight talk.
I think you killed
four people this morning.
And you're smart enough to have an alibi
for the fifth attempt,
maybe to put some doubt
in a jury's mind,
but there is no doubt in mine.
My daughter
was killed in her own apartment,
while studying for a better life.
She died choking on her own blood.
And no one was made responsible.
Elijah, I am sorry about Samantha,
I am, I can't even begin to imagine,
but it is not on you to exact vengeance.
Right, so wait on
the LAPD to give a damn
about a Black girl in South L.A.?
I grew up there, I know what it's like.
I was five when I saw my
father gunned down on our porch.
And I waited for someone
to come and help.
No one did.
Cops barely took a statement.
More killing ain't the answer, man.
You know, I spent six tours
hunting bad guys
in the darkest corners of the world.
In that time, you know what I learned?
Evil can't be dealt with
in half measures.
I get that you've seen a lot
of death in your lifetime.
Too much.
And I know what toll that takes.
But what you are advocating
for now is straight murder.
If you're not gonna charge me, Sergeant,
I'd like to go.
Even if you walk up out of here,
don't kid yourself for a second
that you are a free man.
If you are involved in this,
I will take you down.
If only the LAPD put this same effort
into bringing Sam's killers to justice.
CABRERA: Hey, Tan?
Congrats on the big save
at that lawyer's office.
Thanks. I just wish we could've
gotten to the shooter in time,
help put an end to all this.
Speaking of the shooter,
how'd you spot him?
Before he pulled the trigger, I
saw light reflect off his scope.
Powell said
the Deputy D.A. was giving you
an earful before you saved him.
He's damn lucky you were
able to tune him out.
Focus is the name of the game.
Yeah, like it's that easy.
You, Hondo and Deacon are just
on a different level
than the rest of us.
I hope one day I can get there, too.
Brass ordered the release
of Elijah Leonard.
They're just letting him
walk out of here?
Reality is, we didn't have
anything to charge him with.
That last shooting
complicates everything.
Letting him go is a bad call.
You got no argument from me.
In the meantime, we've got
a patrol officer keeping an eye on him.
At least until we can
figure out what's going on.
Hey, where are we at with the
attempt on the Deputy D.A.?
If we can identify the second shooter,
we might be able to use him
to help us nail Elijah Leonard.
I had RHD send me all the video feeds
they collected
from their canvass of the area.
That shooter wasn't
expecting SWAT to be there.
It's a lot of footage to comb through,
but if he slipped up
at all in his escape,
maybe we can get a visual.
All right.
Let's get to scrubbing.
Thanks for meeting me, man.
All right.
Let's do this.
- O.G., what's going on?
- What's up, man?
We need to talk to Khalif.
All right, I'll go get him.
[HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING]
[SIGHS]
Look who's back.
He's got a few questions, man.
We don't, we don't need
to make this a big thing.
Does the name "Samantha Leonard"
ring a bell?
She was a USC student.
Lived in an apartment complex
just a few blocks from here.
About four months back,
her neighbor got his drug stash
robbed by three guys, rolling heavy.
Both sides started shooting and
Samantha caught a stray bullet.
Khalif, the three guys
who pulled off that robbery,
they were I.D.'d as Hammers.
Anwan, Jak and Tyrese had nothing to do
with that Leonard girl
or that dealer getting hit.
They were profiled.
Cops picked 'em up
because they were convenient.
But it was the Hammers that night.
I need you to hear me.
This shooter wants revenge
for Samantha's death and I got
a feeling he ain't done.
Which means all your people
are in danger.
So if you got any information,
I need it, man.
Let me help you.
Nobody around here needs your help,
dawg.
If that shooter comes back,
we'll be ready.
We can handle our own business.
This shooter's
out of your league, Khalif.
I'm dead-ass serious.
I want to stop him, but I can't do that
if you continue to keep me in the dark.
You're the one who gave the
order to hit that dealer, right?
Well, you might as well have
pulled the trigger yourself.
Khalif?
They're never gonna talk to you,
especially if you roll up
on them like that.
You know what? They'd talk to you.
You know, earlier, you kept complaining
that nothing ever changes,
but what are you doing to help?
- What the hell's that supposed to mean?
- These guys listen to you, Leroy.
Your words mean something.
So maybe you should start using them.
Start getting in their ear
before they just become
another Khalif or Anwan.
Let me guess.
You lost the ticket?
Alfaro got me again.
You do know that SWAT Tag is
supposed to be fun, right?
I know, Deac.
I just really want those damn tickets.
I want to take my son to the concert.
Things have been going okay
with me and Thomas
since we connected, you know?
We've done a few dinners
and stuff, but
I just kind of want to move
past the icebreakers,
and start making
some real memories with him.
Turns out, he's a really great
guitar player, so naturally
- He's a John Mayer fan.
- Right.
Yeah, Thomas and his band
actually road-tripped up
to Oracle for the last
Dead & Company show.
He thinks the world of him.
I tried to get tickets
on my own, but the concert's
been sold out for months.
Well, Powell, if I had
known any of that,
I would've, I would've
just given you the tickets.
It's all good.
Alfaro is bound to screw up again.
And when he does,
I will be there.
Hmm.
Hey, Deac?
I think I got a visual
on our law office shooter.
You see what he's wearing?
Those look like rappelling gloves.
And that case he's got
is long enough for a rifle.
Run him through facial rec.
Got a hit.
Hector Vance.
He's a retired Navy SEAL.
There's no way that's a coincidence.
Looks like he and Elijah
Leonard served in the same unit.
So they're SEAL buddies.
Still, murder is a long way
- to go for a military pal.
- Hold on.
Check this out.
"Congratulations
to my goddaughter, Sam Leonard."
Vance is Samantha's godfather.
He and Elijah are in this together.
[GRUNTING]
[TIRES SQUEALING]
[TIRES SCREECH]
Drive.
Patrol officer's in critical
condition. It doesn't look good.
If Elijah and Vance
are shooting cops now,
they're going all in.
We could have a rampage on our hands.
We never should've let that
son of a bitch walk out of here.
Wasn't our call, Tan,
but you best believe
we're gonna be the ones to bring 'em in.
Alfaro and Cabrera checked Vance's LKA.
Apartment was cleaned out.
Landlord hasn't seen him in a week.
At this point, they could be
anywhere in the city.
Vance and Elijah are on a warpath.
We got to find out where
they're headed next.
Wait, hold on.
Leroy.
What's going on?
So I took your advice
and I did some talking.
You were right, the Hammers do
know more than they're letting on.
One of Khalif's lookouts spotted
the shooter's truck this morning
right after the hit.
They've been looking out
for it ever since.
- You got a location?
- Nah, but Khalif's got
eyes everywhere, man.
It's just a matter of
time before he finds
this shooter and then
things get real bad.
Hondo, Elijah Leonard
and Hector Vance just
stormed a diner in Watts.
They were looking for
one of the waitresses,
Jada Carter. She wasn't there.
Her manager said
she called out sick today.
Jada is Khalif's sister.
They must be planning
to use her to draw Khalif out.
Patrol said that Leonard and Vance
left with Jada's home address.
Leroy, you know where Jada lives?
Franklin Munn projects.
Khalif thinks he's hunting Elijah,
but it's the other way around.
Elijah's going
for the head of the snake.

[PHONE BUZZING]
- We up, let's go!
- Come on, let's go!
- [ENGINE STARTS]
- Hurry up!
Hurry up.
[TIRES SQUEALING]
- Three minutes out!
- HONDO: All right, listen up.
We think Elijah Leonard
and Hector Vance are
on their way to the Franklin
Munn housing projects.
They're looking to use
Jada Carter to draw out
her brother, Khalif.
Not only could we be going up
against two Navy SEALS,
but if Leroy's intel is correct,
a crew of armed Hammers
is heading there, too.
We could be walking into a war zone.
Lot of innocents,
lot of dangerous people.
No room for mistakes.
- [MUSIC PLAYING]
- [INDISTINCT CHATTER]
[SIGHS]

[KNOCKING AT DOOR]
Delivery.
- Oh, my God!
- Keep your voice down.
I'm gonna need you to call your brother.
KHALIF: No need, dawg. I'm right here.
You make a move, and she dies.
Khalif?
Big mistake hitting my boys.
Even bigger mistake
coming for my family.
Oh, but it's gonna be your last.
Yeah, I don't think so.
[GUNSHOT]
[SCREAMING, CLAMORING]
[GUNSHOT]
[GUNSHOT]
[GUNSHOTS]
- Where's he shooting from?!
- He's up there.
- They got us boxed in, man.
- Hit him! Hit him! Hit him!
[SIRENS WAILING]
[GRUNTS, PANTING]
HONDO: Vance is headed
into Jada's apartment.
[GRUNTING]
We need eyes on Elijah Leonard.
Somebody tell me where he's firing from.
On it, moving.
Tan, Powell, Alfaro,
flank Khalif and those Hammers,
contain them.
Deac and I are gonna head
to Jada and Vance, let's move.
[KNOCKING ON GLASS]
LAPD. Open the window.
Open the window now.
We're coming in.
[PANTING]
He's trying to kill me.
No, we're not gonna let that happen.
Okay? We're here now.
Is he still here?
Yeah. I think so.
Bathroom clear.
Closet only.
Show your face, Vance.
No one else needs to get hurt here.
[CRIES OUT]
30-David. Hector Vance is dead.
- [GUNFIRE]
- LAPD! Don't move!
- Drop your weapons now!
- Hands up! Hands up!
- Drop the gun. Drop the gun!
- Going hands-on!
Turn around. Hands behind your back.
25-David, Hammers are contained.

HONDO [OVER COMM]:
What do you got for me, Cabrera?
Still looking, Hondo.
All right, let's move! Now!
[GUNSHOT]
TAN: Fall back, fall back. Get down!
25-David, we're taking fire.
Powell and Alfaro,
keep moving with those Hammers!
Roger.
ELIJAH [OVER COMM]: Hector? Hector?
Come in, Hector. Are you there?
Hector's dead, Elijah.
Is that Sergeant Harrelson?
It is.
Elijah, I need you to
stand down. No more shooting.
- Let's talk about this.
- I'll make you a deal, Sergeant.
Tell your man to give me Khalif Carter,
and I won't kill anyone else.
Come on, Elijah, think about Samantha.
What would she be thinking
seeing you like this right now?
Don't you talk about my daughter.
Her death meant nothing
to you people until now.
I am simply getting her
the justice she deserves.
This ain't justice, it's vengeance.
From where I'm standing,
they're one and the same.
I want Khalif.
And until I get him, everyone here
is a target.
30-David, we need eyes
on Elijah Leonard.
He's on the north end of the courtyard,
- building 23!
- [GUNFIRE]
CABRERA: Third floor.
I just don't know which window.
ELIJAH [OVER COMM]:
You really think you can
get the jump on me, Sergeant?
Ha, you SWAT guys are funny.
Listen, I'm trying to pick
who to shoot next.
Lot of choices here. What about
- your friend with the gray beard?
- Deacon, cover!
[GUNSHOT]
Deac, status.
I'm okay.
ELIJAH: How many innocent lives
are you willing to sacrifice
for one criminal?
Elijah, do you hear what you're saying?
Sergeant, this is not a negotiation.
I want Khalif.
He's the reason my daughter's dead.
You get him out in the open
and this ends.
You know I can't do that.
Your choice.
[ALL CLAMORING] Come on, come on!
No, no, no, no, don't move!
- Looks like I got a runner.
- [GUNSHOT]
- [CRIES OUT]
- [SCREAMING]
25-David, she's hit in the right leg.
[SOBBING]
ELIJAH: She's still alive
because that's the way I wanted it.
Next shot, she dies.
Elijah, that woman's got
nothing to do with this.
Like I said, no half measures.
Give me Khalif.
You've got five seconds. Five.
20-David, I need eyes on Elijah.
Four.
Three.
Two.
- Hondo, second window - from the corner.
- ELIJAH: One.
[GUNSHOT]
20-David, suspect appears
to have gone down.
Need confirmation.
28-David to Command,
suspect down.
Area's clear.
We need a medic in here ASAP.
Let's go.
So, you still welcoming retirement?
You know, there's a lot of things
I'm gonna miss about this job.
A day like today is not one of them.
[CHUCKLES] Yeah.
Nice job spotting him.
Focus is the name of the game.
An old SWAT veteran told me that once.
Talk to me. Who has the gold ticket?
Right here, sir.
Now, before I claim my prize,
I just want to thank each and every one
- of my fellow competitors.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It was a real battle today and
Just hand over the damn ticket, Alfaro.
Tag. Your socks.
He's got blue socks on.
SWAT regulation is black.
You would be right six months ago.
CABRERA: Unfortunately, it's true.
As of last November, LAPD
handbook permits officers
to wear navy blue socks.
They're right, Powell.
Happy to loan you a copy
of my handbook, Powell.
Alfaro, congrats.
Enjoy the show.
Oh, I will.
It's okay.
Hey, Leroy.
Hold up.
I just wanted to say
thank you for today.
I know that wasn't easy.
Well, I appreciate you and your
people getting there in time.
It could have been a lot
worse if you didn't.
Yeah. Listen, what I said to you earlier
about you not doing enough?
I was way out of line.
Yeah, you were.
Don't mean you were wrong, though.
And you know I hate admitting
that you were right twice in one day.
[BOTH CHUCKLE]
But I've been thinking, man.
What if I opened the auto shop up
to kids in the neighborhood,
like an after-school
type thing, you know?
Teach 'em the trade, give 'em an outlet.
Maybe help keep 'em off the streets.
I mean, I ain't got the
details figured out yet,
but could be something there, right?
Yeah, yeah, I think so, too.
I mean, if you want to
start seeing change,
then we gotta be the ones
to make it happen, right?
[CHUCKLES] Something like that.
Hey, listen, Nichelle and I are
having a barbecue this weekend.
Why don't you come through, see Vivie?
She's getting big, man.
All right. Darryl and his friends
are gonna be in town.
Can I bring 'em along?
You don't even have to ask.
One giant family affair, right?
My man.
Appreciate you.
- Yep. Later, bro.
- Peace.
Hey, Deac. Got a minute?
Yeah. What's up?
I've been thinking a lot
about what you said,
and maybe I have been
selling myself short.
Maybe.
Look, ever since I joined SWAT,
you and Hondo have set
the standard here.
From day one, I've been
measuring myself to you guys.
I guess I've been doing that for so long
that sometimes I have trouble
seeing myself as
As what? Our equal?
You know, I used to think the same way
about Buck and Mumford.
But whether you're in year one
or year 15,
it's easy to forget how far you've come.
You've come a long way.
If the offer still stands,
I'd be more than happy
to head up SWAT Academy for you.
Of course it does.
You're gonna do an amazing job, Victor.
Hey, I learned from the best.
Shooting range later?
1900 hours.
Hey, come here.
I want to show you something.
Thanks for the help.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER, LAUGHTER]
You're a sore winner, you know that?
[CHUCKLES]
Here, take 'em.
- Shut up.
- No, I'm serious.
- What's the catch?
- No catch.
They're yours.
I hope you and Thomas have a great time.
Did Deacon say something?
No. You don't remember?
The Boyle Heights casita
we hit a few weeks back?
On the car ride over,
you told me how much
Thomas loves John Mayer.
I listen.
What about "no reward, no reason"?
Well, never really cared about
the concert tickets anyway.
I just wanted to win SWAT Tag
so I could impress Hondo.
Well, what do you mean "impress Hondo"?
Well, with Street and Luca gone,
and Deacon about to retire,
your squad's getting pretty light.
Look, the way I see it,
if you want to move up in SWAT,
20-Squad's the place to do it.
I don't know how you guys
do things over at 50,
but in 20-Squad, we're a family.
We're not some department ladder
for you to climb.
Family, huh?
Whatever you say, sis.
Have a good night.
Thank you, sir.
Deacon should be here any second.
Though I'm not sure what's keeping him.
You know what?
Let's get started without him.
Can I get the first group
up to the line?
Shooters ready!
Fire!
[GUNFIRE]
