Shooter (2016) s01e10 Episode Script

Primer Contact

1 BOB LEE: Previously on "Shooter" What can I do for you, Captain? This was written to the president.
It states that in 21 days he'll be executed.
[gunshot, crowd screaming.]
Hey, Swagger.
[gunshots.]
Stay on the ground now! Hands behind your head! My name is Bob Lee Swagger! I did not kill the president! All you had to do was shoot him.
I want my lawyer.
His name is Sam Vincent.
The evidence is compelling.
Does that sound like me? I'll confess to trying to kill the president, but my wife and daughter are left alone.
What are you gonna do? I'm gonna do what I do best.
I'm gonna hunt.
- I don't like the unknown.
- I'll deal with Swagger.
NADINE: This whole thing seems off.
- Do you believe me now? - Yes, I believe you now.
I need you as an asset inside the government.
So are we partners? - Memphis.
- I think we found our shooter.
BOB LEE: Lon Scott.
NADINE: CEO of Anhur Dynamics? That doesn't make any sense.
We've been hiring PMCs to handle off-book black ops.
This has "war crimes" written all over it.
[speaks foreign language.]
These so-called NADINE: Karlina Ordenko is dead.
I believe a man named Grigory Krukov gave the order to have her killed.
He's a high-ranking member of the FSB.
You're a drunk with a security clearance.
And you're that asshole who thought he could outsmart me.
If we don't start working together Together? ISAAC: You can't stop these guys alone.
I want $10 million in uncut diamonds, or I'm going public with the Annex B file, which I have in my possession.
[grunts.]
- [groans.]
- God, you're a dumbass.
MEACHUM: Swagger's gone.
He's got Annex B.
KRUKOV: Our mutual friends will not be pleased.
Good-bye, Mr.
Meachum.
- Is that Daddy? - Where where are you? You let them go, I'll give you that shot you've been hoping for.
[suspenseful music.]
[explosion booms.]
JULIE: We have to find Mary.
Some man took her from the back of the van.
Krukov has her.
I followed them, but I've gone as far as I can go.
What do you mean, "as far as you can go"? She's in Russia.
[dramatic music.]
Your name is Mary, yes? I am Grigory.
I have a grandson about your age.
Sasha.
Very sweet boy.
Where is he? He's at home with his mother.
Are you hungry? I will leave it here.
Some cookies and milk.
You are frightened, but you have nothing to fear.
Your father has something that belongs to us.
When he gives it back, you go home.
Where's my mommy? Eat.
Rest.
This will all be over soon.
JULIE: This is never gonna work.
The embassy is a fortress.
There's no other way.
Then give Krukov what he wants.
Honey, if I believed for one second that I could trust that guy, I would.
They can't let us live with what we know.
NADINE: The ambassador's at a cocktail party at American University.
He should be there for another two hours.
That should fit.
Okay, Julie, you're up first.
Your objective is to distract the ambassador and his security team and then get them headed back to the Embassy.
Where is he? Where? Where's the ambassador? Someone tell me.
Where is he? - WOMAN: What's going on? - MAN: What? You! This is a private function.
- I want my daughter.
- I'm sorry? I know you had her taken.
My daughter.
She's at your embassy.
I'm sorry.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
- And don't you dare bullshit me.
- [speaks Russian.]
No.
Get off of me.
NADINE: Isaac will be there to validate the story - and motivate the ambassador.
- Excuse me, sir.
You think you can strong-arm me, but you can't.
I'll go to the press.
Excuse me, Ambassador.
She came to Homeland first.
She was raising hell in our office.
Look.
I'm truly sorry about your trouble, but I have no idea who you are.
I'm Julie Swagger, Bob Lee Swagger's wife.
My six-year-old was dragged into your embassy by Grigory Krukov.
[people murmuring indistinctly.]
I'm sorry, Mrs.
Swagger, but I have nothing to do with this.
[speaks Russian.]
You're a liar.
I'm going to the press.
Everyone is gonna know.
I'm going to the press with everything! BOB LEE: Once I get into the embassy, how do I find Mary? I have the plans for all three floors right here.
It's big, but the public stuff conference rooms, offices it's all on the first and second floor.
The secret shit is in the basement.
Any luck with the ambassador's security team? This one.
When you get Mary, meet us at the surveillance point at K Street.
Once you're all safe, we'll take it from there.
- Copy.
- So, K Street, then we're done? You see my wife and kid, you get paid.
[dramatic music.]
[speaking Russian.]
[indistinct chatter.]
Let her go.
I'm sorry.
I do not know what this is about.
The scared little six-year-old in the basement.
Let her go.
Mary Swagger.
Who? That's cute.
You know who I am.
You are the national security advisor.
And yet here I am, standing in the Russian embassy.
Does that give you any sense of how important this is? Swagger has Annex B.
Pick a headline: "Complicated Government Conspiracy" or "Six-Year-Old American Girl Kidnapped by a Russian Spy"? Which one do you think "The Post" will go with? In my country, we do not worry about headlines.
This isn't your country.
Yes, it is.
[phone buzzing.]
You'll want to get that.
It's your ambassador.
[buzzing continues.]
[Ambassador Tarasovich speaking Russian.]
[speaks Russian.]
[speaking Russian.]
Good luck, Mr.
Krukov.
Call me if you need anything.
[Ambassador Tarasovich speaking Russian.]
Da.
[intense music.]
[dramatic music.]
[indistinct chatter.]
[speaking Russian.]
[foreboding music.]
[both speaking Russian.]
[phone buzzes.]
ISAAC: Swagger's choosing the location.
He doesn't want a repeat of Lon.
Fine.
But it needs to happen now.
ISAAC: I'm waiting on his call.
As soon as I have it, you will too.
[both speaking Russian.]
[in Russian.]
Democrat.
- [speaks Russian.]
- [speaks Russian.]
[speaking Russian.]
Hmm? [speaking Russian.]
- Uh - Huh? [Tarasovich speaking Russian.]
Misha.
[speaks Russian.]
[electronic beep.]
Where is real Misha? Probably waking up on the floor of a coatroom.
Look.
I had nothing to do with your daughter being brought here.
Krukov stepped over the line.
I wish no harm to her.
You'll find her downstairs.
There is a safe room.
And don't kill anybody.
[dramatic music.]
[indistinct chatter.]
[indistinct chatter.]
[muffled thudding.]
[keys jingling.]
[door rattles and clicks.]
Daddy always comes back.
Always, sweetie.
Always.
Daddy, why are you dressed so nice? 'Cause I knew I was coming to get you.
Okay, Mary, listen to me.
You've been a great mini-marine so far, but this next part's where I'm gonna need your best.
- Okay? - Okay.
Okay, our mission is to get out of here.
- Okay.
- Are you ready? - Yeah.
- All right.
Let's do this.
Run quietly.
Okay, sweetie, I need you to do me a favor and watch Daddy's six, okay? All right.
Eyes that way.
I just had to help him to sleep, honey.
He's good.
Did you see anyone? - All good, pork.
- All right.
Let's roll.
[speaking Russian.]
[fire alarm blaring.]
[woman speaking in Russian.]
[alarm blaring, indistinct chatter.]
WOMAN: Please exit in an orderly fashion.
[woman speaking in Russian.]
[indistinct chatter.]
WOMAN: Please exit in an orderly fashion.
ISAAC: It's a fire at the Russian Embassy.
- JULIE: That's Bob Lee.
- Let's hope they got out.
No.
There's zero chance he'd leave without her.
I'm gonna go call our lawyer.
[intense music.]
How's she gonna take it when you cuff him? She must know it's coming.
You really think that matters? Sir, we've let the Swaggers down.
She has every right to hate us.
Memphis, I don't know another agent who would've done what you did.
You're about to bust this wide open.
All right.
Are we mission safe? We are now.
Where is Mommy? She's coming.
Uh-oh.
[gentle music.]
There she is.
Mousy! - MARY: Mommy! - Hey, baby.
Oh.
Mwah.
Are you okay? You're amazing.
- I had a great partner.
- Yeah? Let's get you in the car.
Mm, you're so brave.
Here.
- No.
- I have to.
No.
No, you don't.
Look look, we have options, okay? Let's run.
We can do we can do anything.
We're a family again.
Honey, honey, Krukov will never stop coming after us.
Please don't.
Take this.
Rose Hotel.
It's about three miles south.
Room 109.
It's already paid for.
Diamonds? If I'm not back by midnight, you keep heading south.
Don't I'm not doing that again.
Sweetheart, my number's in the phone.
And you got to take this.
Fifteen rounds, one in the chamber.
You see any trouble, you shoot first.
Please don't do this.
Please.
Just Let's go.
I'll be back when I know you're truly safe.
Midnight, then.
You come back to us.
I will.
[tense music.]
[engine turns over.]
[Tarasovich speaking Russian.]
Uh-huh.
[speaks Russian.]
Mm-hmm, yes.
[sighs.]
[speaks Russian.]
[speaking Russian.]
[dramatic music.]
BOB LEE: Change of plans.
Figured you and Julie'd be halfway to Mexico by now.
BOB LEE: Call Krukov and tell him I'm in Mason Bay Park.
- I'm waiting for him.
- And what about me? We're marines, Isaac.
I gave you my word.
You want the diamonds, make sure Krukov and his men show up at Mason Bay Park.
[indistinct chatter.]
[phone ringing and buzzing.]
ISAAC: He screwed me.
He just called Memphis.
Says she's meeting him at Mason Bay Park.
Use whatever resources you have and stop him.
You mean kill him? Mason Bay Park.
[speaking Russian.]
[speaking Russian.]
Because if he gave it to the FBI, he wouldn't be ambushing us.
[car alarm chirps.]
[engine turns over.]
Stop the car! Hands where I can see 'em! Right now! We had a deal.
You didn't have a deal with me.
You got to let me get out there and help him.
Mason Bay Park! Swagger's gonna be there! Let's get everyone! [Ori's "Black Book".]
[pensive vocalizing.]
ORI: Maybe, maybe, maybe You slept with someone else In the past But no one will love you, love you, love you Like I do 'Cause I will be your last Mm-mm See now, maybe, maybe, maybe You slept with someone else In the past No one will love you, love you, love you, like I do 'Cause I will be your last Mm-mm [exhaling.]
[dramatic music.]
[brakes screech.]
[man speaking Russian.]
[gunshot.]
[gunshots.]
[man speaking Russian.]
[speaking Russian.]
[gunshots.]
[speaks Russian.]
We're here.
JULIE: Come here.
MARY: When's Daddy coming? Soon as he gets done working.
Are we going on an adventure? Another adventure? You haven't had enough for one day? No.
You're crazy.
[man shouts in Russian.]
[gunfire.]
HOWARD: Copy that.
We're 15 out.
We've got a bird in the air, more agents en route, local PD to handle the roads.
- It's a big place.
- Yeah, let me guess: you want to go in first, bring him out, and let us make the arrest? Uh-uh.
Forget it, Johnson.
How many men can Krukov get together? - I don't know.
- Okay, well, how about an estimate? A shit load.
[gunshots.]
[gunshot.]
BOB LEE: Shit.
[speaking Russian.]
[gunshot.]
[man grunts.]
[gunshot.]
[gunshot.]
Helo reports smoke and gunfire on the north side.
It's not my command, but I'm guessing that the FBI's gonna hold until the shooting stops.
Howard, by then it'll be too late.
The smoke is to break contact.
They're blinding him.
Memphis, let's go.
Hey.
You're gonna need every long gun you can get.
Let me help.
It's not my call.
[stone thuds.]
[gunfire.]
[gunshot.]
[gunfire.]
[speaking Russian.]
[suspenseful music.]
[speaking Russian.]
[helicopter blades thrumming.]
[indistinct radio chatter.]
[grunts.]
[grunts.]
[metallic click.]
Does your boss know you're doing this? - No.
- [grunts.]
I'm not gonna let Swagger die today, and neither are you? Try to run, I'll leave you on that mountain.
[dramatic music.]
[gunshot.]
[gunshot.]
[gunshot.]
[gunshots.]
[indistinct chatter on TV.]
Do we have any more potato chips? Honey, one bag's the limit, okay? KRUKOV: Julie Swagger! Mary, Mary, get in the bathroom right now.
- I don't need to go.
- Listen.
Do as I say.
Get in.
- Mommy, what's going on? - Get in.
Get in there.
I called the cops! KRUKOV: I doubt that.
All the police are at Mason Bay looking for your husband's body.
I have a six-year-old in here.
Please.
Give me Annex B.
Annex what? [gun clicks.]
Oh! Shit! [gasps.]
Oh, my God.
- [gunshot.]
- Oh! [gunshots.]
- [grunts.]
- [body thuds.]
BOB LEE: Don't shoot.
I'm coming out.
If I even see your muzzle, I kill you right now.
You and I are same.
We don't take prisoners [groaning.]
[gunshots.]
Give me what I ask for.
I don't have it! [gunshots, glass shattering.]
- Shit! - [Mary screaming.]
Mary, honey, I'm right here.
Listen.
I need you to get in the tub now.
Hurry.
Stay down.
Stay down, okay? Stay down right here.
I'm right here.
- [gasps.]
- Easy, easy, easy.
Where are you hit? Where are you hit? - [coughing.]
- All right, all right.
All right, you're okay.
You're okay.
[gasping.]
Oh, shit.
[grunts.]
[Isaac grunts.]
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for what I did to you.
Don't let me see you again.
KRUKOV: I will ask politely one more time.
Give me Annex B! [phone buzzing.]
- Julie? - Bob Lee! - [Mary screams.]
- Bob Lee, help! Please.
JULIE: Please help! Krukov's here.
I'm coming.
KRUKOV: Your time is up.
[gunshots.]
[both scream.]
Your husband had to be a hero, didn't he? Very American.
[Mary screaming.]
- KRUKOV: Where's your hero now? - Shit.
Shoot at the car.
Aim high and shoot, now.
[gunshots.]
[bullets thudding.]
[heartbeat thumping.]
[suspenseful music.]
[gunshot.]
[exhales.]
Stay here.
Don't move, okay? Don't move.
[shaky breathing.]
MARY: What happened? Daddy's here.
[siren wailing.]
[indistinct radio chatter.]
JULIE: Oh, my God.
Thank God you're okay.
Is it really over? - Yes, sweetie, it's over.
- Yes.
- It's over, baby.
Finally.
- We can go home? NADINE: Bob Lee.
- No.
- I'm sorry.
I have to.
- No.
- Jules, it's gonna be okay.
- Why? - Bob Lee Swagger, - you're under arrest.
- I promise you.
You have the right to remain silent.
- Wait.
Where's Isaac? - It's gonna be fine.
You know he's innocent.
I'm sorry, Swagger.
[pensive music.]
HOWARD: Why don't you follow him? He could use a friendly face right now.
He should be allowed to go home.
He's still the number one suspect in the assassination attempt against the president.
That hasn't changed.
[engine turns over.]
[taps.]
Agents, un-cuff Mr.
Swagger, please.
Okay, Mrs.
Gregson, we're here, against my better judgment.
It's Ms.
Gregson, and I appreciate your trust.
Bob Lee may I call you Bob Lee? Bob Lee, where is Annex B? My client has no such knowledge Mr.
Vincent, if this was a deposition, I wouldn't have emptied out the ground floor of Langley.
Bob Lee, Annex B? I don't have it.
Maybe Hugh Meachum has it.
He works in this building, doesn't he? Mr.
Meachum is recently retired.
And what does Mr.
Swagger get if he gives it to you? Complete exoneration for the assassination of the Ukrainian president.
He gets his life back.
That's what you want, isn't it? What if I want justice? You'll have to settle for freedom.
You're the national security advisor, right? You advise the president on which foreign leaders to meet with and where.
[tense music.]
You're a smart one, aren't you? You put the president of the United States in Seattle with the Ukrainian president.
Or maybe he asked you to.
Do you recognize this rifle? It's a SABER-FORSST .
338 precision tactical rifle.
When was the last time you saw it? At the assassination.
Do you recognize this? It's a bullet.
Ms.
Gregson I want Annex B.
Are you really willing to die for this? Ms.
Gregson, please step away from the weapon.
Last chance.
[suspenseful music.]
So be it.
[rifle clicks.]
Jesus Christ.
I had the ATF do a more thorough review of this rifle.
Turns out somebody shaved the firing pin down 2 millimeters, just enough so that no one would notice.
Mr.
Vincent, please note that the murder weapon, the only thing that links Bob Lee Swagger to this whole conspiracy, does not fire.
If that weapon can't fire, then Mr.
Swagger can't be the shooter.
Bob Lee Swagger, you are exonerated for the assassination of the Ukrainian president.
Now, I gave you what you want.
Give me Annex B.
I can't give it to you.
But I can tell you where it is.
Why don't you give the Russian ambassador a call? See if he checked the room where daughter was held captive.
The story is, Lon Scott and Grigory Krukov went rogue, cooked up a plan to start a war from which they'd both profit.
Lon took the shot that killed the Ukrainian president and then framed you.
They found compelling evidence when the FBI raided his compound yesterday.
Lon and Krukov had a falling out.
Lon killed Krukov at the Rose Motel, then killed himself.
That's a hell of a story.
Russian ambassador's gonna back the entire thing.
He's working with the State Department to clean it up.
NADINE: What about Isaac? Nobody knows where he is.
Well, I know a little girl who's gonna be thrilled to hear that her father's free.
Yes, she is.
You go ahead, Bob Lee.
I've got a lot to do here.
Nadine, when you're done here, I'm gonna need you in there.
We're gonna need a proper record.
Of course.
Thank you, Sam.
Anytime, son.
[clears throat.]
Memphis, I couldn't have done it without you.
You're an easy man to believe in.
I don't know about that, but you're one hell of an FBI agent, and I hope your boss knows that.
I could write you a letter of recommendation.
[laughs.]
I'll let you know.
Take care.
You know what? I have to ask, seeing as how we're in the empty lobby of the CIA.
You never even flinched when Gregson fired that rifle, almost as if you knew it wasn't gonna shoot.
What's your question? No one would believe it anyway.
Well Good-bye, Marine.
We'll work on that salute, pork.
JULIE: Reach for this one.
MARY: Reach, reach, reach.
You're getting so good.
[Mary giggling.]
MAN: Here you go, sir.
Daddy's home! [gentle music.]
Hi, baby! - You guys hungry? - Starving.
- It's lasagna night, right? - It is.
Let's go home.
- GREGSON: You wait here.
- MAN: Yes, ma'am.
[dramatic music.]
I don't have all night.
I want out.
No.
I almost got killed.
You volunteered.
You knew the risks.
I betrayed everything I believed in for you.
You got Meachum.
You got Krukov.
There's nothing left.
Meachum and Krukov were just the tip of the iceberg.
The real problem is about to reveal itself.
You have other people for that.
No one like you.
I'm done.
Don't send anyone after me.
GREGSON: I won't have to.
