Steven Seagal: Lawman (2009) s01e02 Episode Script

The Deadly Hand

Jefferson Parish 911 Operator.
Yeah.
and the truck saw a body in the driveway.
He's laying on the ground? He's about 5'3.
" about 140.
255, I'm gonna leave the crime scene.
Highway Nine.
We've got a gun.
[siren wails.]
Now I got him.
So you can look at me as a movie star or you can think, "Steven Seagal can save my life.
" He got a 95g in his pocket.
Drop the gun.
Run it.
Can you shut up? We're looking for murderers.
Do you know what I'm saying? I ain't even doing nothing! Just relax! We trying to help you.
Everybody going for a ride.
This could get ugly.
I make a living in the movies, but for the past 20 years 11-A, 25, code six I've also been a cop.
And along with some of the finest deputies on the force, I serve the people of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
code 94-G.
Shots fired.
My name is Steven Seagal.
All units respond.
That's right.
Steven Seagal: Deputy sheriff.
It's Friday night, and usually, there's still a lot of activity until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning.
In this next hour or so that we're out, we just want to try to really make our presence known, and if there's any guys out there committing aggravated assaults or burglaries or drug slinging, we want to know about it.
We want to get up.
This is predominantly black.
It's new houses they built back here.
This is where they had that bad shooting that time? Yeah.
Things here can turn violent fast and without warning.
That's why we need to stay sharp and focused.
Awareness is the key to survive.
If you can't anticipate an attack you can't defend against it.
You know him? No, but they way he looked at us, he gonna be wanted.
Well, he was looking at the lights too, looking at us in the uniform.
When you come up here, take a left and put the spotlight in that fence.
10-4.
That guy's got a gun.
He just put it in his pocket.
We're gonna jump out now.
Copy.
Copy.
This could get ugly.
[sirens blaring.]
All right, them running.
They running.
Quick.
Quick.
Quick.
Quick.
Quick.
See if we can catch 'em this way.
Let me see your hands! Put get out the way! Get out the way! Get out the way! [yelling indistinctly.]
Right now he's down the street.
[tires squealing.]
[whistling.]
Where you at? Hey, Johnny, let me tell you how he looks.
Huh? He dropped his cell phone.
Come see a picture of him right here.
Let me see.
That's his cell phone right there.
That's him.
As the subject was running, he slipped and fell.
He dropped his cell phone with his picture in it.
He also dropped a gun, a 95g.
Where's the 95g? Right here.
There.
Right there.
A 95g! So he didn't have his gun in his hand.
He had it tucked I don't know.
After he slipped down here and he jumped the fence, that's when all the [bleep.]
went flying.
Alex, they got units in the area.
Get us a 'scrip.
5'3", about 140.
The photograph on the cell phone We seen might be the suspect, and, you know, if we're lucky, we may be able to I.
D.
Him off of that photograph.
He's gonna be 5'3", about 140.
Colonel for tonight is calling in the suspect's description and requesting a crime scene technician yo come here to scene and check out the gun.
So somebody got to stay here with the gun, but some of us should be able to keep looking.
We're gonna play the area for a little while.
They got a few more police cars playing the perimeter, and we're gonna see if we can try to find him again.
Police.
Anybody back here? Anybody back here? Police.
What about in the truck? It's like they vanished, man.
You got units on both sides of the street.
There's a lot of abandoned houses, wooded lots.
Had a hit there.
All three of 'em.
All four of 'em have it.
Somebody attempted to fire the weapon.
Can you get the serial number real quick? We're calling in the gun right now just to make sure that it's not stolen.
How many rounds we have? Four.
Four live rounds.
We're gonna do a report on it.
They'll have it.
They'll send it to the lab for prints and for DNA, and if anything comes back, we can take the person that matches the prints or the DNA, put him in a lineup, show him to Captain Norman, see if he can identify him, and we'll go get a warrant for him.
It's as easy as that.
And that's one less firearm that another police officer may have to face under different circumstances, which could be deadly.
How many thousands of times there's a police officer gone up on a stop and all the sudden, they break out and start shooting first? Right.
At any given moment, you just don't know what lies ahead, and when they armed, it makes it even more dangerous.
Right.
[bluesy guitar music.]
Last night was a good reminder of how anybody can die anytime, anyplace, and how you always got to be on your toes.
When you're chasing people with guns, you've got to figure out a way to take them down without you getting hurt or anybody else.
I've studied the Marshall Arts most of my life, so I have a lot of confidence in myself, but I really worry about my own team members sometimes, so today I'm gonna see them a little course in the Marshall Arts and teach these boys some new tricks.
I know my team members can arrest just about anybody.
What I'm concerned about is if somebody's flying at you with punches and kicks.
Many of police officers have tasers, batons, firearms in the worst case scenario, many of them are forced to have to actually defend themselves with whatever they have, and that may be just fighting with their hands and their feet.
And you get a lot of times that, you know, "I'm gonna arrest you.
" And then next thing you know, he's coming like this, so you got to get like this too.
They're gonna be trying to punch your face in and grab your gun.
I'm one of the highest-ranking Aikido teachers in the world.
This young gentleman's gonna help me demonstrate some Aikido techniques.
If somebody starts to punch just kind of punch and come I want you to get behind him.
Take that chin, press it up against your shoulder, and you can pop this or get him under any kind of control you want.
Aikido is written "the way of harmony.
" It's an art based on blending with the attacker's force and being able to redirect it to neutralize your opponent.
So when he gets those hands up, I want to be like this, and from here, this'll get his attention real quick.
You feel that? You under his mouth or his neck? Either way.
Okay.
See how I put that chin right up against my slap if it hurts.
You see? The other thing you can always do is get the fingers, and I just want you guys to feel this, Just this kind of thing.
Yes, sir.
[laughs.]
You feel that? You feel that? They will not resist this.
[bleep.]
.
You know? Now, keep in mind, when somebody goes down, you still got to deal with them, because you haven't searched him yet.
We can flip him like that.
From here, you got to be able to turn him over so that he can't go for a weapon.
He's quick.
When he moves, he's to the side in the blink of an eye and he's got your arm in some pretzel maneuver.
I mean, it's either, you comply or he breaks your arm.
Go ahead and come.
Here's a hole.
Look at that.
I found a hole.
Now I got him.
Right, you see? Yeah, you do.
You all right? Yes, sir.
I had a flashback from Above the Law.
Remember the other night? We had that foot pursuit.
Let's just say, for instance, I'm the guy with the pistol, and all of a sudden, I get up right here, and suddenly, he turns.
I want to be back here.
Away from the muzzle.
And from here, I can flip him this way.
You see how quick I get to the side there? Looks easy.
It's not easy.
It takes a lot of practice.
This, and then they'll think he did something to that.
He grabs the wrist.
Step around, and you're coming in this way.
Ah! Uh-huh.
Like this for the handcuffing.
Ah! Ah! It works.
With the techniques he showed us today, you don't need quite as much force, but you'll come out with better compliance.
I want to protect my guys that I love.
That's my whole lecture for the day.
Okay.
Yes, sir.
Thank you, guys.
[all laugh.]
Let's hang out on the second for a while.
Let's hang out on the second.
Why don't you lead the way? And just take me to your favorite places.
It's a local watering hole.
[both laugh.]
You're bad.
Put your lights on.
[siren blaring.]
They have a large fight over there.
The units on the scene still asking for more units.
That'll take the rest of the night, Lawrence.
Strap up, baby.
What you watch out for in these big fights is, usually, somebody has a gun.
It's very rare that people just do fistfights anymore.
Where we at? Where's the fight? Where we at? There they are, all up here.
Right here.
Right here.
Right here.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Put your lights on.
[siren blaring.]
What you watch out for in these big fights is, Usually somebody has a gun.
There they are, all up here.
Right here.
Right here.
Right here.
I did not put my hands on nobody, man.
Hush up.
Hush up.
The whole situation Hush.
Shut up.
I didn't do anything.
I'm telling you to sit in the car.
Open your [bleep.]
mouth on time.
Sit in the car.
[bleep.]
.
Get in the car.
Did you see actual fighting or just screaming? When we pulled up, They came out to the parking lot, and they started arguing with each other.
Then they all started pushing each other.
Who else we got involved? This dude? Some officers arrived here tonight, and apparently, in the parking lot.
What? That's one in that truck right there, that silver truck? Yeah, him.
Grab that silver truck.
Grab that silver truck.
That silver truck right there? Get that silver truck.
The silver truck's involved? Yeah.
Get out the truck, all y'all.
Get out the truck.
Everybody.
Those guys were bullying you? Yeah.
Put your hand on your head on top of your head.
Go ahead, man.
No, that would hurt, man.
Well, it's gonna hurt even more if you don't listen.
These four guys, Whatever extent of their involvement is, we're not sure, so we're just trying to kind of put the pieces together to find out exactly what has taken place here.
Best thing to do when you have a situation such as this is to separate everybody, and you talk to 'em in different little smaller groups to see if their stories all kind of chime together.
Who started this? They started it.
They started it in the club.
They was calling all my girlfriends bitches and hos and everything, man.
They started trouble.
They chased us to the truck.
We tried to leave to get out of trouble, and y'all pulled us over.
What about this silver truck with the white boys in that.
Yeah, that's the ones who was harassing Are they the ones who started this? That's the ones who started the fight.
Yeah, I think we're kind of getting to the bottom of it.
About everybody says the white boys in that silver truck started it.
And I believe that I believe it too.
That's when the black guy started running towards them yo go fight them while we were standing right there.
They just wouldn't let it go when we got here.
If they would have just said, "yes, sir, this is what happened," and walked away, they'd be walking away now too.
You're right.
Everybody going to jail for fighting.
Police told 'em, "everybody get out of here," and they wouldn't listen and just wanted to continue the ruckus.
If we tell you, "time to go.
Please leave.
" and you don't, they have no choice.
Get this [bleep.]
off me, man.
Let's check 'em to see if they too tight, bro.
All right, let's check 'em.
Come on, man.
Y'all know that's [bleep.]
[bleep.]
, man.
All right, relax.
Come on, man.
Relax, please.
No, man, I will not relax.
I'm telling you, man if you don't relax, something bad will happen.
So relax.
For what? I ain't even do nothing.
Just relax! [yelling.]
I just got a feeling this guy's gonna be trouble.
I need you to take these bitches off.
In Zen, even if somebody has to get angry, we try to get angry and let it go, and this gentleman is not a very good Zen practitioner.
I did not put my hands on nobody, man.
Nobody, man.
There you go.
You had your hands turned around.
That's the problem.
You had 'em crossed.
That's why they were hurting you like that.
You gonna be straight now.
There you go.
Is that better, brother? No, it's not better, man.
That's the best we could do.
Watch your knees.
I ain't touched nobody Let's go, everybody in this crew.
Hey, man, be careful, huh? [bleep.]
All that [bleep.]
y'all talking 'bout.
[bleep.]
Y'all, man.
[bleep.]
Y'all mother[bleep.]
.
[bleep.]
Y'all.
Bitch, [bleep.]
y'all.
Whoa.
Whoa.
Whoa.
[bleep.]
[bleep.]
[bleep.]
.
[glass shattering.]
[bleep.]
[bleep.]
.
Ow! [yelling.]
Do not resist.
Why do I have to go through this [bleep.]
, man? Everybody going for a ride.
Let me tell him something.
Hey, man.
For no reason.
Let me tell you something, dude.
You do me a favor.
Don't say nothing else, 'cause you gonna get yourself in a hell of a lot more trouble.
If you didn't do anything wrong, you ain't got to worry about nothing, nut all this carrying on will get yourself in more trouble, and that's all we got to say.
Before he kicked out the window, he could have calmed down, But now he's gonna face additional charges for his actions.
And I think we need to wrap this up.
Oh, lord.
Well, it's better he kicked the window out than tried to kick one of us, but it goes to show you, it can be very dangerous out on these streets, So you've always got to really stay on your toes.
Let's go.
We're in an area where a lot of murders and drug slinging just a lot of gangsters live, And we've been through here every night.
just looking for bad guys.
If you're getting ready to jump something, let us know.
You know, when you stop somebody in a neighborhood like this, you never know what you're gonna get into.
There's a car up ahead there.
Let me look at these guys.
Hey, Johnny, I think these guys over here are drinking.
let's back up here and see what they're doing.
uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh.
Uh-uh.
Out the car.
Out the car.
Out the car.
Put your hands up in the air! I think these guys over here are drinking.
Let's back up here and see what they're doing.
Out the car.
Out the car.
Out the car.
Out the car.
Put your hands up in the air! Move it in.
Get your hands in the a right now! Hey, can you calm down, partner? What all this yelling for? Hey.
Hey.
Have you been drinking? No.
You haven't? See this here? They got an open container in there.
But I haven't been driving.
It's illegal in the state of Louisiana.
You should understand that, son.
I understand y'all doing y'all job, but right now, I don't feel like y'all doing y'all job.
Can you just shut up? Put your hand on the car, man.
Hey.
Anybody pat these guys down? I ain't check 'em yet.
What is this? What you doing with a gun? All right, they got a gun.
Goddamn it.
He's got a 95g in his pocket.
This your gun? Yes, that's my gun.
Registered? Registered, sir.
Where the papers at on the gun? The papers at home, sir.
Lawrence, did you run the gun? Run the gun.
Run it.
Can you shut up? You don't tell us what to do, man.
Yhe best thing you can do is don't say nothing at all and just wait, just wait.
It's in your favor, man.
It's in your favor if you just be quiet.
Second subject Dyess is calling in the subjects now yo see if they have any arrest records, and he's also gonna run the gun to see if it's stolen.
You just never know in the circumstances that when you get someone out of a car whether they're gonna have a weapon, and certainly, you have to take those precautions.
That gun could have been pointed at us.
You never let your guard down.
That's why officer safety training is so important.
Stand by.
We located a gun and ran it via NCIC, which determined it was not stolen.
We also determined these guys have not been drinking, despite the open container.
Gun is clean? Gun's clean, not stolen.
Gentlemen, here your gun.
Put the gun in the trunk.
There it is, bro.
You see it, huh? Put the magazine in the glove box.
We're happy that it's a legal weapon, but we also feel that firearms on the street are a major threat to society.
Thugs are shooting each other.
They're shooting innocent people, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose.
They're shooting police officers, so we think guns on the street are a big problem.
Don't put a loaded gun on you.
I knew that, sir.
All right, that's all.
That's all.
I knew who you were, man.
I ain't gonna disrespect you.
We looking for murderers, you know what I'm saying? All right.
We're not looking for people like you.
All right? You hear me? I hear you.
All right, man.
We're not here to beat up on people.
We're not here to lecture people on their morals or their ethics, but we are here to enforce the law.
We are here to try to make the streets safe.
Ain't that right, partner? That's it, sir.
Come on, folks.
Come on in.
We're back at the Training Academy.
This time I'm teaching some of the new recruits.
Hopefully, some of the things I'll teach them will keep them safe and save their lives.
Some of you know me.
Some of you don't.
I've been doing the Martial Arts for over 40 years, so you can look at me as a movie star, say, "hey, man, Steven Seagal here.
He's a movie star.
" or you can wipe that [bleep.]
out of your head and think, "Steven Seagal can save my life.
" 'cause that's why I'm here.
My biggest concern when y'all are on the street is weapons retention, because that's the quickest way you will get killed.
Let's say we're grappling here, and he goes for his gun.
Now, normally, he would go for it with this hand.
What I like to do is lift up here and pin his leg, and I have him pinned here.
I take his elbow this way, and from here, you have this technique.
Okay? Get up and pick a partner and try it.
When I'm making moves, just go with it, and you won't get hurt.
If I do this, get your ass up in the air, and I won't do it again.
Weapons retention is one of the most important things to teach these kids.
Get that elbow up in the air.
Now you got him.
into a fight or an altercation, they're in danger of getting their own weapon taken from them and killed with their own weapon.
No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
Slide that this way.
It's my job to teach them how to never let that weapon get taken.
Now, as soon as I move, I want you to say "bang," okay? Bang.
Yeah.
Bang.
From here, I can have his elbow.
I have the gun.
Use your technique.
Everybody see that? (All) Yes, sir.
Try that.
Being here teaching these young police officers makes me feel very proud.
Turn this here.
I know the dangers they face out there in the street, and I'm glad I can do something to keep them safe.
Body position along with your mind is everything.
Speed and technique are very, very important, but more than any of that, it's technique, and technique is wisdom.
Technique is knowledge.
All these techniques that I've taught you, you work 'em until they start to work, and next time I come, they've got to be better, you hear? (All) Yes, sir.
All right, thank you all very much for today.
Thank you.
[applause.]
