Season 4, Episode 5

Previously on
The Amazing Race Australia
In the most epic race around the world,
nine teams hit the hills of Vietnam
Fast, fast, fast!
Go, go, go!
..where things got heated
Stop cheating!
Oh, hey!
Don't get on the wrong side of this one.
..and risks were rewarded.
Thank you!
But in the race to Pit Stop
Oh, yes! Yes, quick!
..Rowah and Amani's luck
Thank you!
..ran out.
Your time on the race is over.
I'm super proud of Amani.
She's everything and anything
I could have asked for as a daughter.
Tonight,
we travel to the land
of blue skies, Mongolia
Ah! Mongolia!
..where some dirty tricks
I'm not fine with it.
Cheaters.
..leave a bad taste.
And in the tightest
race to the finish
Oh!
..the competition
Go, mate! Go, mate!
This is where it got crazy!
..is turned on its head.
Running is what I do.
Go!
What do you want me to do?
Two hours outside of Vietnam's
bustling capital Hanoi
lies the beautiful rural
province of Ninh Binh.
And it's from here
that we're about to continue
the greatest race on Earth.
Eight teams remain in the competition,
and they'll depart in
the order they arrived
at the last Pit Stop.
Fly to Mongolia!
Ah! Mongolia!
Oh, my God!
Mongolia!
We know nothing about Mongolia,
apart from it's literally the
birthplace of Mongolian lamb.
It's also the second-largest
land-locked country on Earth,
and its vast, rugged landscapes
were once the centre of a global empire.
But you know, pretty good lamb, too.
Mongolia has a population
of just three million people,
300,000 of which are nomadic,
a bit like our teams.
They will come here to the
capital, Ulaanbaatar,
where they'll continue the fifth leg
of the Amazing Race Australia.
"Lights of Mongolia, the land
of the eternal blue sky."
Ooh, OK, here we are!
"Once there, make your way
to the top of Zaisan Hill."
"Thanks to the award-winning
Bankwest Halo Payment Ring,
you have 165 US dollars to
spend in this leg of the race."
To Mongolia!
I never, ever thought I'd
ever get to go to Mongolia.
Oh, my God.
This is gonna be epic, babe.
Seriously, we got a lot of
work to do to catch up.
We're in fourth, like, which is good,
but I want to get first, babe.
We've come first four legs in a row now,
so pretty good start.
Perfect start, I could saw!
Yeah!
Thoroughly enjoyed our time in Vietnam,
so whatever the net leg has
on offer for us,
I think we'll hopefully do
much more of the same.
All teams are now on
the same flight across East Asia
to reach Mongolia's capital
city, Ulaanbaatar,
where they'll hit the ground
running to their first location,
the imposing Zaisan War Memorial
in the south of the city.
Oh!
Taxi!
Is that a taxi?
Yeah.
That's it, that's it, go, go!
Zaisan Hill?
That's it.
You know this place? Thank you.
Alright, thank you.
Good work, babe!
Had a bit of difficulty finding a cab,
but just hope we're still
top three, top four.
Taxi!
Near the memorial.
Memorial?
Mimor?
Memorial?
Yeah.
Maybe that is that.
Maybe that is it, yeah.
Yeah, so just, yeah.
Yeah, Zaisan Tolgoi.
The imposing Zaisan War Memorial
towers over the city,
sitting more than 1,300 metres
above sea level.
Here, the teams face
a lung-busting climb
up the 300 steps
to reach an unbeatable view
of the valley below,
and find their next clue.
No easy task,
especially at this altitude.
Let's go, babe, let's go.
We got off to an absolute
cracking start today.
Keep going, my love.
Here we go.
We're the first team to get
to Zaisan Hill.
I was absolutely struggling
to get up that hill.
The legs started to go,
I couldn't really breathe.
Just keep in mind the altitude.
It's gonna make us short of breath.
My God, look, stairs.
Wait here, wait here!
Right to the top, Viv.
Right to the top.
Wow, this is beautiful, babe.
Absolutely gorgeous.
We're quite high up,
and you're just looking around,
you know, everywhere,
the city, the green hills.
It was beautiful,
but we just had to get
to our next destination.
We're not here for a holiday.
Hey, babe.
We've left our son at home,
it's a huge sacrifice.
Wow!
We're here to win.
"Make your way to Janraisig
Temple and Gandan Monastery."
Gandan Monastery is one
of the most sacred sites
in Mongolian Buddhism.
At its heart lives a 20-ton
golden statue of Buddha.
The biggest indoor statue in the world,
it's surrounded by an incredible
287 different prayer wheels.
Their challenge is to spin
and count every single wheel
before presenting the correct
number to the monk in charge
to receive their next clue.
Janraisig Temple, yeah?
Thank you.
OK, yes, babe!
Here's here's our clue!
Oh, come on, don't stop, don't stop!
Push, push!
Got to the top of Zaisan Hill.
Probably circled the memorial
about three times
because we couldn't see the bloody clue.
Did we just walk past it?
The clue wasn't actually
at our eye level.
On the top, on the top!
Oh.
Too short to see it.
So, again, you know,
being short was a disadvantage
in this game.
Let's go.
Go, mate! Go, mate.
"Make your way to Janraisig
Temple in Gandan Monastery
and spin the prayer wheels
as you count them."
Legs are burning!
Thank you for waiting.
You all good, girls?
Yeah, how are you guys?
Oh, it became so much harder to climb.
It took all your breath away.
Uh, we had fallen behind quite a bit.
We were, like, I think
we were actually last place.
Yeah, there was only one clue
left, so we knew we were last.
As we were coming into the monastery,
we were really conscious that
we're in a really sacred place.
They only go clockwise.
This huge Buddha sitting
right in the middle,
all of these different prayer wheels.
It just looks really ancient,
and we were so lucky to experience that.
I started counting,
and then Jerome followed me
to make sure that we had
the exact right number.
76, 77, 78
79, 80.
Alright, turns out cabs
are really hard to get here.
We're here with Sid and Ash
across the road, as well.
At least there's one other team here.
We went to a 7-Eleven,
and we got them to order us a cab.
How long?
Two minutes.
Taxi? Taxi!
Those girls are gonna get it, though.
No, that's ours.
Get it, get it, get it, that's ours.
Taxi!
We need it, that's our taxi.
Our taxi.
Our cab comes, they jump in it.
They steal our cab.
Not happy about it, at all.
At all.
Sid!
Was it their taxi?
I don't know.
It was hard to say.
It's hard to say.
You are counting your own,
what did you get?
I got 18 at the top.
No, no, is that
Is that including your 116?
We could see Chris and Adrienne
getting very stressed
when we got there.
You're just confusing me now.
There's 18 here.
Chris, what are you doing?
Are you starting again?
Chris, talk to me! Chris!
We decided to just
take it slow, count together,
and then use a calculator just
to make sure we got it right.
OK, 277.
So, we get the number,
we head upstairs to find the right monk.
No? Excuse me.
Not him.
We just kind of go through each monk
till we finally find the right guy.
No, excuse me.
Thank you so much. Thank you.
OK, OK.
"Catch a bus to the sand dune."
For their next challenge,
our teams must race to reach
one of three buses
heading deep into the Mongolian desert.
There are limited places on each,
so it's first in, best dressed.
Once there, they must complete
a traditional welcome ceremony
and receive their first taste
of nomadic life,
fermented horse milk.
Did I mention the giant bowl
of fermented horse milk?
Dragon bus station?
Gotta go, boss.
Thank you.
After our first attempt we counted down,
we saw all of these other teams come in,
and that's when it was like, "Wow, OK."
Like, it's crunch time.
There's hundreds.
Keep going, can you not count?
How hard could it be
counting some prayer wheels?
Oh, my God, mate.
It's not that hard to count!
There's hundreds of them!
18?
Yeah, is that what you got?
Yeah.
18, 19, 20, 21, 22
Were you even counting, or was
I doing all the counting?
Please don't leave me
for a big gold man.
I only counted mine,
I didn't count yours at all.
OK.
So, where do we go?
Upstairs.
There was this continual
frustration of all the teams.
What are we missing?
Which combination is it?
Excuse me, are you the monk?
Yes!
Thank you.
273?
Oh, they just got it.
Huh?
!
Quick, quick, quick.
I'm so pissed about the girls.
That's fine, I'm whatever.
I'm not fine with it.
OK, see you soon!
The fact that Mikayla
and Hayley stole our cab
definitely put us back
a good half an hour.
We want 'em out of here.
We want them out.
We saw that Tom and Tyler
were coming down,
and they had a piece of paper
with the number written on it.
Thankfully, the boys showed us
that number.
It was very smooth.
I think maybe those boys
have slipped a few
numbers in their time,
that's why it was so quick and easy.
When I saw that Tom and Tyler
and Mikayla and Hayley
were working together,
I was a bit mind-blown.
The way that they play the game
is far from clean.
Mikayla and Hayley, going down.
Don't count out loud.
We were confronted with
an enormous number of these
spinning prayer wheels
on two levels.
It was just so frustrating.
OK, write down eight and nine.
No, no. You just count.
While we're counting the second time,
Femi and Nick were the next to get
the clue right.
287. Yes.
As each team went up to present
their number,
starts put a little bit
of pressure on ya.
"Catch a bus to the
sand dunes of Mongol Els."
Beautiful. Let's go.
What do you wanna go with?
Haven't got too many more combinations.
We got there last.
The fact that Mikayla and Hayley
stole our cab
definitely put us back.
On top of that, Tom and Tyler
gave them the clue.
Thanks.
Cheaters.
Thank you, Tom and Tyler.
We owe you guys?
You guys are the best.
There's three buses leaving.
Only three teams get on the first bus.
Two teams on bus number two and three
teams on bus three.
We need this guy to go quick.
Yeah, this taxi driver's loving it.
He's not letting them get ahead.
We had Tom and Tyler right next to
us in the cab.
Our cab driver saw that, though,
and just wanted to beat their cab.
- Oh, no.
- Let's go, big fella.
Looks like Tom and Tyler, I think,
are just behind us.
So, again, it's a race.
Can we make sure that taxi?
We have to beat that taxi.
We have to beat that taxi, yeah.
Yes, please.
Honestly felt like we were in a movie.
I love your driving.
Oh, you're amazing.
This'll be new territory for Nick
and Femi, up front.
- Yeah.
- Ahh!
Come on!
That's it. Let's go.
Our taxi driver was super-cool about it.
He's like, "Yeah, let's race",
but abiding by the road rules, you know?
Of course.
Speed limits and that.
Of course.
- Number one.
- Number one?
Yeah, bus number one.
This is the first time
we've kind of, like,
actually been ahead of people
Yeah.
..for the whole race.
This is our second leg, babe.
This is our day.
Yeah.
We're gonna come first today.
This is unreal.
This is so wild. It's lovely.
OK, here we go.
This is the Dragon Centre.
Here we go.
Thank you.
Thank you. Hey!
Hey. What's going on?
Let's go.
Here! Here! Here! Here!
Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!
- Yes!
- Hi, guys.
Oh, Jasmin.
Nailed it!
Good work!
Yes!
Tom and Tyler are right behind us.
- No.
- Shit. We missed it.
Alright, boys, we have three.
Oh, is it three in there?
Sorry, lads.
You'll catch up.
Damn it!
Tom and Tyler were absolutely
spewing that they missed that bus.
But we were secretly stoked.
This one, this one. 287?
Yes!
That's right. No. Just
What do you think
Add 'em up.
OK, so 287. Thank you.
So, we entered the monastery last and
we came out second last.
I pulled us through.
.
Say this was the final three,
I'd be, like, stoked, you know.
Yeah, and whoever wins,
would, like, share the money six ways.
It's good to see you boys up the
front of the pack.
Oh, man, it's good to be here, man.
It's really good to be here.
This is our first time really being
at the top of the pack.
Yeah, we're stoked.
It's just really good to just really
just look out the window
and actually see what's going on and
actually immerse yourself
in the beauty of Mongolia.
Honestly amazing.
He's the right monk, but this
is not the right number.
Do it again.
We've been up about three or four
times, I think,
and still still didn't have the
right number.
We did the full round.
Yes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We arrived second,
we went out last again.
Frustrating.
Only two teams get on this bus, so
hopefully it's the girls.
And then, we've got a good friendship
with them.
And Tyler has a crush on Hayley.
Yeah, there they are.
Yeah, girls!
Joking!
Both of them.
Bus two. Well done.
We were excited to be on the bus
with Tom and Tyler.
We're really good friends with them.
Such a smooth ride here today.
It's so nice.
Thankfully, the boys showed us the
number at the Gandan Monastery.
Yeah, now we've got a good alliance.
Ooh. Big word.
That's a big commitment saying that
you're an alliance with someone.
Yeah.
Why did the word 'alliance'
scare you so much?
It was like Tom hearing the word
'commitment.'
It's probably just a friendship
right now.
Oh!
Jeez!
Oh, sorry, girls.
We started so far ahead and now,
we're on the last bus.
And the reality is that we were
sharing the bus with,
- physically
- Two strong groups.
Go, go.
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
Make this count, bro, come on.
There. I see it there.
Do you see that?
Next clue said to look for a bunch
of tents
that was matched with the Race flag.
- That's the flag, right?
- Yep.
Hello.
Hi.
We got to the ger and there was a
really, really cool
Mongolian welcoming that was
done by a couple of elders,
and were presented with,
I think, it's some kind
of scents to smell,
something to eat,
and then we have to drink
some fermented milk.
The fermented milk was fizzier
than we were expecting.
I didn't want to drink it.
I just was like, "Do I just I'll
just sniff it."
All?
All.
"All. Drink all."
I was like
Whoa.
How you doing?
Come on, push.
Excuse me. Sorry.
It was really challenging.
I was so embarrassed that we'd been
invited into this ger
and here I am gagging on this milk
that this family has provided us with.
Excuse me.
We were starting to really, you
know, go into dangerous territory.
Sorry.
We had the privilege
of being invited
into a local family's ger
to sit down and try
some of the local food.
All of it?
Excuse me. Sorry.
It was a big bowl, it was
fizzy, it was quite bitter.
It was all kinds of weird.
It wasn't the best.
All in all, it was mad.
How you going? Come on, push.
We just gave each other a look,
and when we give each other
the look, we just know, it's like,
"Stop your sooking and start sipping."
Yeah.
Thank you. Let's go.
Detour.
"Milk the Best, Herd the Rest."
A healthy herd can be the
difference
between life and death out here on
the Mongolian plains.
In today's detour, teams will try
their hand
at some traditional goat farming.
In Milk the Best, they'll get up
close and personal
with some Mongolian udders,
as they attempt to milk the goats
and fill the containers
to the blue line.
In Herd the Rest, the teams test
their goat wrangling skills
and attempt to capture four
of the woolly little buggers
the Mongolian way.
Then, they'll mark each of them
with their team colours
to receive their next clue.
Sounds easy, right?
Wish me luck!
Ahh!
We're going to Herd the Rest.
Yes.
That how they do it?
One of them, Femi.
Let's go.
Mark it on the horn, they said?
You want me to try?
Yeah, try.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Detour. "Milk the Best
or Herd the Rest."
"Herd the Rest", OK.
Yep. OK.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Trying to just down that milk,
I almost actually vomited.
I'm not even going to lie.
She's gagging
and I was just really conscious
that we're in this family's home.
I was so embarrassed.
But I just blocked my
nose and drank it down.
Thank you so much. Thank you.
Thank you.
Milking the goat goats?
You choose. I'm happy either way.
Yeah, let's go with milk the goats.
OK.
You guys have been pretty
lucky so far.
Maybe your luck's about to run out.
So, on the second bus,
we were with Hayley and Mikayla,
and we knew that three teams were in
front of us.
Go, go, go!
And that obviously put more pressure
on us.
This is where we make up some time.
So going on out the back there.
Coming into every challenge,
if you perform poorly, that could be
your whole race done.
I'm going big here.
You gonna join me?
Alright, we'll get this down.
Oh, beautiful. Thank you.
It's actually not too bad.
Beautiful.
Best milk I've ever had.
"Milk the Best or Herd the Rest."
Herd the Rest?
I like my herding.
Let's herd 'em.
Gonna go for the little ones,
alright?
So, we opted for catching a goat
and marking them with paint.
It felt like we were fishing for goats
'cause it was a big, massive
fishing-rod-like thing.
Oh, they know.
They know. They know.
Oh my God! Nick! Nick! Nick!
Honestly, it was quite fun.
It was fun.
It was fun.
It was good teamwork, you know.
Femi herds them, I come with some paint.
Mark him, mark him.
Mark him on his back! Quick!
On the backside, cheeky slap on the bum.
Cheeky for running
away from us and, yeah.
Go on, son.
Yeah! One! Whoo!
Don't Stop getting distracted
by what's around, happening.
Just focus on this, please.
We chose to do the goat milking
because I just thought it'd be
easier and possibly quicker
than wrangling goats.
But it turns out it definitely wasn't.
Oh!
What happened?
She nearly got out of my hand.
I can see some other teams starting
to come now, babe.
The other teams are catching up.
Yeah, no worries.
Let's get 'em. Whoo!
You got this, Mikay. Nearly done.
Can you just be
OK. OK.
It's really sour.
Could have just been,
like, a cup of tea.
That would have been much easier.
Yay! Thank you.
Thank you so much.
It's the worst feeling in the world
in this race,
knowing you're at the back of the pack.
Should we go?
Go, go.
Mate, we have to get there
first, OK?
We could see teams not that far ahead
of us.
Herd the Rest.
Let's go and Herd the Rest.
We just knew we needed to keep on
running.
We need to walk faster.
You can walk very fast and breathe.
Come on, Chris.
Just back up a bit.
Come on, Nick!
Get him. Get his back!
Yeah, got him.
Three! Three!
Alright, one more.
There we go, Viv! Here we go!
Here we go! Here we go!
Here we go! Here we go!
Yeah, marks on the butt!
Yeah, there you go! That's two!
Are we making way?
Yeah, we're getting there
slowly.
I can see chaos out there.
I can see Viv and Joe chasing goats
and sheep.
Tyler and Tom running
around like mad men.
Hold it. Hold it.
Hold it, Tom.
Well, for a city boy,
Tyler's actually alright herding goats.
That's one. We need four.
Four.
Yeah, I've herded a couple
goats in my time.
Two.
Nice get!
Yes. Good boy.
That means he's never herded a goat
in his life.
Yeah, not a lot of dirt under these
fingernails.
That's three.
Go, Viv. Horn, horn, horn, horn.
I got him, I got him.
Come here!
Alright, one more.
We started off being first,
there was now like five teams pretty
much all at the same level.
Oh, he's almost
Come on, come on, come on!
Yes, four!
We pumped the goats really,
really quickly.
We got all four of them and we got
our desto first.
"Travel by camel into the sand dunes
"and use your compass to find Beau
at your next pit stop.
"Hurry, the last team to check in
may be eliminated."
Alright, let's go.
This region of the world
was once part of the ancient silk route.
In order to cross this challenging
landscape,
you need to hitch a ride on of the
world's most stubborn animals.
It's all about the camel caravans,
and that's exactly
how one member of each team
will travel to the pit stop,
being navigated by
the other with a compass.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Yeah, so we came out
of the detour first.
OK.
Which way is west?
Finally, like, we have a break
to able to show what we can do.
I don't know what due west could
look like, to be honest.
I don't know how to read a compass.
Which way is it pointing.
What's the number at the top say?
315. And that's when it just went left.
I think north is this way.
So west is that way.
So, west would be that way.
Literally.
Left.
I'm sure it's not a far walk, is it?
Well, it could be if you keep
going in that direction.
The pit stop's over here.
Now go to the front,
and push them my way!
Whoo!
Go, go! Go for the ones that
are running, running.
We chose the detour
to catch a goat.
Caught a couple.
We used the person that was painting
to our advantage
to herd them into the other person.
It ended up working pretty well.
Four! That's number four.
Good boy!
Yeah!
I really enjoyed that challenge.
I had some fun doing that.
Yeah.
That was
That was ball.
"Travel by camel into the sand dunes,
"and use your compass to find
Beau at your next pit stop.
"Hurry. The last team to check-in
may be eliminated."
Good boy!
Come on!
How much longer you got?
Uh, we're almost there.
Beautiful. Good luck.
Oh, babe.
What's wrong?
No. I'm just, those two teams have
gone, like
As we're milking that goat,
we could just see our first place hopes
just slipping through our hands.
I don't know.
What do you reckon?
I'm worried the other teams
are just going to rock up
and smash it out.
Get the horn! Get the horn!
I'm trying!
There you go!
That's four.
Yes!
Are we going to make stick with it?
Or do you wanna change?
Look how far we've gotten.
Get this one. Get this one.
Yeah! Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah, that was a good one.
What do I do?
Uh. Let's go. Let's go.
Are you sure?
Yeah.
Let's go then.
But I'm not even halfway.
Yeah, come on. Come on.
Oh! Jesus!
Watch out for my camel.
It says, "Travel due west for
approximately one kilometre."
Yeah. So, if that's
north, that's east
Never eat soggy
..and that's gotta be that way.
Weet-Bix is out there, mate.
Weet-Bix is that way.
Yeah.
And you don't eat soggy Weet-Bix.
Nick and Femi went the opposite
direction.
Once again.
You reckon?
Alright. Let's do it.
After they went east, we went west,
and we were coming
First.
I can't believe Nick and Femi.
Breaks my heart.
Oh, camel.
So turn due west,
and then keep going north of that.
Is that what it's saying?
Yeah.
OK then, it could be that.
I've never been outdoors.
I've never really done this kind of
camping thing.
So I've never used a compass, before.
Maybe do it a bit slow for me,
just to see where the other team go,
if they're familiar with a compass,
if they start coming out this way.
So frustrating
because we're, like,
so close, but still so far.
'Cause we still have no idea where
we're going.
Do you see the boys behind us?
No, I don't.
Hopefully, we're right.
How do we get the camel up?
Ah!
Oh.
There we go.
Ah!
You OK?
Uh-huh.
OK.
I chose to lead this one because,
even though it was, what?
Maybe one and a half kilometres,
from where Beau was,
- Viv's legs were giving in.
- Whew.
You OK?
Yeah.
The most frustrating thing
was not being able to see the pit stop.
'Cause I'm on the ground with the camel,
I can't see anything.
We are going the right way.
Like, west is right there, right ahead.
I'm going straight ahead, right there.
Just follow the boys.
Why would we follow the boys?
I've got a compass, Viv.
I don't know what a "K" is, though.
That's my problem.
Here we go.
Alright.
The taste of the things we got
really wasn't the most pleasant.
It was quite sour,
but we decided to swallow
our pride and, literally,
swallow that milk.
Oh, my God. Eh.
Ugh.
Detour.
Oh, wow.
It's foul.
"Milk The Best" or "Herd The Rest"?
Milk.
We're gonna milk the goats.
We're gonna milk the goats.
Come on, come on, come on,
don't take so long.
Thank you.
Thank you.
"Milk The Best" or "Herd The Rest?"
We'll wrangle four goats.
OK.
OK?
OK. I would have gone for milk.
But yeah, OK.
Yep.
Are you sure we're
going to do this?
Ash, this is easy.
OK, let's go.
We decided to herd the goats.
Yeah.
Get, where's your stick?
No, it's one each.
How do you milk a goat?
Can you milk a goat?
Well, we were pretty confused
because, no, I'm not gonna lie,
like, I didn't even know you could
milk a goat.
We'll give it a go.
If it's too hard, we'll switch.
Go. Go
I was pretty frustrated at
this point
that we'd made the wrong decision.
Two.
I can see Mikayla and Hayley,
running around,
trying to capture,
you know, their animals.
- Here, here, here!
- Damn!
And then, all of a sudden,
Sid and Ash walk up.
Sid, Sid, Sid, Sid!
Get it! Got it, I got it!
- Hello.
- Tim and Rod walk up.
Be nice.
Where's, where's his udder?
The lead that we had
at the start of the day
is starting to get away from us.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
But we used that frustration
to really, just,
smash out the challenge.
Uh, three.
One more, baby.
Jerome grabbed those goats
so quick. I couldn't believe.
Go now, let's go!
You're getting him. Yeah!
Hold him, hold him.
Hold, hold, hold, hold.
Hold, hold. Hold. Get there. Yeah.
If we'd chosen that for the
challenge, first,
we still would have been in first place.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Let's get the hell outta here.
And I'm telling Jerome,
"Just leg it, babe.
"We've gotta go."
Sure it's not a far walk, is it?
It's one kilometre.
It's 1,500 metres.
OK.
It's been a fair while,
700 metres down the track,
and no one's actually with us.
If we're going away, and we don't see
any other teams following, we're, like,
"OK, maybe we're doing something wrong."
What does the arrow always point at?
Isn't it always pointing north?
And we're going south.
Oh, this is nice.
Look at him. He's a good horse.
Let's call him "Stu."
We've named our camel Stu,
just to have a bit
more rapport with him.
We thought he might help us out a
bit more, that way.
Come on, Stu. Let's go.
Oh, he wants to feed.
Oh!
Don't think he liked the name,
'cause he stopped for a bite to eat
every five seconds.
He's hungry.
Oh, big boy!
Come on, big fella.
Hey, we'll eat later.
The first 100 metres,
I wasn't too worried.
I thought, "Feed him early,
and he'd bring us home strong."
Turns out, he was just eating the
whole way.
Come on, buddy.
He's a hungry boy.
They're coming, they're coming.
Jerome's catching us.
Bloody boys. If these boys
come first, again
We looked behind,
and we had teams on our tail.
Come on, Stu. Yeah.
Come on, come on.
Jerome was going home, hammer and heel.
Tom was powering.
Whoo!
Stu doesn't run, I've told you.
He does, he runs.
Come on, Stu! Come on, buddy.
Yes. See? Here we go.
Get him running.
This is gonna be a real close finish.
You're nearly there, baby.
My legs were hurting.
Everything's hurting.
I just had to picture that our son
was waiting at the pit stop mat for us,
and that we just had to get there.
That he needed us.
We left, first.
It's just a pit stop.
We ended up going, like,
700 metres the wrong way.
When we got back
to the top of the hill,
we saw teams ahead of us,
so we just started running.
We worked too bloody hard to come
sixth place, again.
You've got to win.
We've gotta win this, boy. Push!
You got 'em, Stu.
The three-camel finish!
Come on, Tom! You're an animal.
This is what you train for!
Go!
What do you want me to do?!
Get him going that quick.
No!
Look at this one! He's flying!
Shh. Babe, we got this.
At this point, teams are just
absolutely sprinting.
Femi and Nick are coming
from the back, running,
so we need to pick up the pace, baby.
They're moving so fast.
We need to move.
I can just see two teams right next
to us.
We are, literally, neck and neck.
Let's mark it.
Mark it, Jasmin.
We wanted this so bad.
Go. We're almost there, brother.
We're almost there.
We're almost there, mate.
Come on!
Ah! Ah!
Come on!
Running's what I do.
Come on! You're with me!
We overtook the other two teams.
But just as I went through
Come on, Stu! Come on
Oh, Jesus!
Femi, Femi!
I fell.
It just is what is, it's the race.
Need a pit stop?
Race to 10play for
behind-the-scenes extras,
interviews, and moments
you didn't see on TV,
at 10play.com.au/TheAmazingRace,
and on the 10play app.
Shh. Babe, we got this.
Come on! Everything!
We overtook the other two teams.
Get him going that quick!
No!
Look at his one!
But just as I went through
Come on No!
..I fell. Bang.
If I hadn't have tripped, I think,
100%, I was gonna come first.
Jerome, go!
Go, babe! You've got this!
As Tom and Tyler started to
pass us,
I knew that both of us had to have
all four feet on the mat.
Get on the mat.
Two people on the mat.
Two people on the mat.
Oh, shoot.
Wow!
It was a photo finish to the end.
Whoa-ho-ho!
What a race!
Jerome, Jasmin
..you are the first team to check-in.
It was seriously close.
All that hard work from today,
oh, it was the best feeling.
Tom and Tyler, you were the second team
to check-in.
Not bad.
We were safe from elimination,
so we weren't too fussed.
Yeah.
And Femi and Nick,
you are the third team to check-in.
Well done.
Well done.
Wow, guys.
First win!
Yes!
Oh, my God.
Can't believe it.
In the middle of the Mongolian desert.
I'm so proud of this man, today.
He just, really,
put his whole body on the line
for our team, today.
Yeah, we're definitely still
going west.
I'm confident we're still
going west.
I don't know if it's definite.
Couldn't see the pit stop
from where we were.
There were a lot of hills.
So that feels like a K, now.
Yeah.
'Cause at, yeah, you have to start
walking right,
at some point, yeah.
At once, I actually felt like the
camel was
gonna try and pull me along.
Which I wouldn't mind, you know?
'Cause I feel like he had
better sense of direction than I did.
Joey
Oh. Hoo-hoo.
Keep going that way, it's west.
It was really hard and stressful,
and I completely, I guess,
lost how long I'd been going for,
so I probably went west too much.
- We're just going west, right?
- It sucked.
Get them to go back towards the crowd.
Eh. Come this way.
OK, OK. You just move, you
Don't just give me orders!
To the front!
Now, go to the front!
Push them my way!
Whoo!
Here.
Ah!
We had a bit of a delay at the start,
getting used to how we herd, and
everything like that.
Yeah!
At this stage, we're probably
sitting in fifth place.
So fun. Thank you!
Thank you!
I think we got overtaken by other
teams.
Which way am I walking?
Yeah, that direction's fine.
Hayley's a gun with a compass.
She does a lot of orienteering at home,
so I said, "I've got no idea. Give
me your bag.
"Hop on the camel, and you guide.
"Just tell me where to walk."
Who's a good boy?!
You're being a very good boy.
Are you gonna show us where Beau is?
It's on it.
Oh, shoot!
It's super hard to catch the goats.
I was really frustrated at the
start of this challenge
Ash!
..'cause it was hard.
Like, the animals are just running
and doing whatever they want.
We're going this way, d'eh, d'eh.
Yeah, go.
Oh, yeah, I've got this.
Yeah, a little bit to the left.
Could see Mikayla
and Hayley on the camels,
which were the next task.
I was pretty devastated.
Where's the paint?!
In my pocket.
Where's the paint?
OK. Go.
Yeah.
Chris being a farmer as well,
he just knew what he was doing.
Yeah.
They jumped on those goats.
Do a sheep, do a sheep.
She's, like, tackling them!
Chris, run!
No.
How do you leap on it?!
We do this all
the time with alpacas,
so it came second nature to us.
OK.
Catch the animals, brand them,
done, dusted, out.
Thank you.
Thank you.
We were elated, when we were finished.
We had two other strong
teams on our bus,
and we had a significant jump on them.
Oh, hey.
OK, Chris?
You got the
Oh, shut it.
Felt like I was in the Mongolian rodeo.
I wonder if this guy runs?
Oh, no.
You'd probably fall off.
OK, there. Hold on.
Hold on, just slowly.
Come on, big guy.
Do the right thing for us.
Yeah.
It's OK, mate.
Oh, wow. That's heaps.
Yes, Tim! Keep doing that,
this is heaps. Good one!
Tim was going to town on these udders.
Yes! Milk that goat!
It was intense,
but I was getting so into it.
At one point, I was, like, literally,
had both the goat's, like, nipple
things, like this
"Eh, eh, eh."
Thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
What just happened?
That's what happened.
That's exactly what happened.
Oh, wow.
Do you listen to yourself when you
speak?
No.
Just go the way the farmers went.
Go, go, go! I can see them, go!
Pick up some speed.
I can't go any faster
than the camel goes.
Come on, Mr Camel, you're
doing a wonderful job.
Good boy, good boy.
Got it, Ash. Got it.
Quick, quick.
Sid.
Quick.
It has to go on the horns.
Done. Cool.
Uh. We're quite, um, frustrated,
leaving last.
We knew that we had some ground to,
uh, to kind of make up.
Can you have a look a bit at the
compass?
Yes.
I don't get it.
Keep marching through.
I just picked a spot, and we sprinted.
Keep going straight.
I am, I am, I am.
Sid.
Well, I did.
Ash is going a lot quicker than you.
We were, again,
neck and neck with Tim and Rod.
Just don't slow down.
You can do it.
OK.
Chris and Adrienne
were just in front of us.
That is way over a kilometre, all
I'm saying.
Keep going. Keep going.
We were happily walking along, and
we were making good pace,
and then, uh, we could start to see
the two other teams
coming behind us,
and gaining ground on us.
And they were running with the camels.
There's Adrienne and Chris.
Just keep going, just keep going.
Just keep going.
Go, go, go.
The farmers are behind us.
Come on. Come on.
This is where it got crazy.
Keep moving, keep moving.
Keep running.
Rising trot.
Yeah, keep going.
Go, go, go!
I think I can see the pit stop, I think.
Keep going. Oh! Jeez!
Oh, I'm falling!
Just keep going, just keep going,
just keep going.
Go, go, go!
I think I can see the pit stop, I think.
Keep going. Oh! Jeez!
Oh, I'm falling!
The camel decided that he
was going to throw Chris off.
Keep breathing.
That's what you need to do.
Is it just the wind?
Oh, here we go.
The flash is on.
Just letting you know,
other teams are running and closing
the gap.
I don't wanna freak you out, but
they're not far away.
Mikayla, I know.
We can't go any faster.
Hayley was saying,
"the other teams are ages away."
I look around, they're overtaking us.
Go, now.
Put your foot down.
Put your foot down, Ash.
As soon as I saw Mikayla and Hayley,
I knew that this was our chance to
pass them.
They're cutting them off, they're
cutting them off!
Good girl, good girl.
Good girl, Ash.
Especially after stealing our
cab, I was like,
"You are not gonna take us down, today."
Go, mate. Go, mate.
Sid, Ash
..you are the fourth team to check-in.
Yes! Mikayla and Hayley
..we got 'em.
We got them.
Tim, Rob
..you are the fifth team to check-in.
It made us feel good, knowing that
we weren't going home,
that we're still in it.
Hayley, Mikayla
..you are the sixth team to check-in.
Whoo-hoo!
Whoo!
Good job, girls.
Alright.
We have two teams left.
It was so physical.
My feet are just drowning in the sand.
Completely, I guess, lost.
Last place, which is, it sucks.
Yeah.
I knew he was winded,
and he was struggling to get breath.
Alright?
Oh
But the noise he was making,
I knew he was in more trouble than that.
Oh. I might have broke a couple of
ribs.
Yeah.
Ten being the worst pain you ever
felt in your life,
zero being no pain, how bad is it, mate?
Oh, about an eight.
About an eight? Alright.
Alright, Joey.
Oh.
I reckon that it is over there.
Isn't this such just a
romantic thing?
Lying out in the sand, Yeah.
in the middle of the desert.
It's straight up ahead.
Viv and Joey have made their
way just over the horizon.
I knew we were gonna finish.
We're not quitters.
It's just a really hard, hard moment.
Hey Beau.
Thank you.
Thank you.
OK. Viv, Joey, you are
..the seventh team to check-in.
Thank God.
Well, you're still in the race.
Well done, guys.
Bring it in.
Thanks, Beau.
Good job. And I'll see
you again, shortly.
Get out of here, come on.
You can't help but like
those guys, eh? Yeah.
I was over the moon. I just
Honestly, we thought we were going
home, today.
We've had every team check-in
but one.
Chris and Adrienne have
had some sort of accident,
so I'm gonna go in and make sure
they're OK.
Find out what happened.
Chris, Adrienne, how are you?
Seen better days.
Had better days, but, yeah.
Yeah, took a big hit from a big camel.
I've probably cracked
one or two or three ribs.
I know we're going to
send you for a scan
Yeah.
..to make sure everything's alright.
I got a job to do, you guys know that.
So unfortunately, Chris and Adrienne,
you did not check-in,
so you're eliminated,
and your time on the race is over.
How do you feel, now,
sitting here, facing this?
Yeah. It's so sad to end it like this,
'cause we, um, we did hope Mm.
that we could get,
or stay in the race longer,
'cause we were enjoying it so much.
It was so much fun.
Mm.
Um. But, yeah, it wasn't to be.
Que sera.
Whatever will be, will be.
Fancy our exit being caused
by a, by a camel.
We loved doing the race.
It was so much fun.
Yes!
Although it was rocky at times
Chris, speak. Speak to me.
..it forced us to work through problems.
Yeah, just hang on.
I think our relationship
is stronger, as a consequence,
and that's a really good thing.
Yeah!
As the old saying goes, uh,
"You can always teach
an old dog new tricks." So
That's not the saying.
It's, "You can't teach an old dog
new tricks."
Don't make me laugh. Mm.
We went through a few ups and downs,
but the outcome is that
..the sun came down,
and we're really happy.
Next time,
on The Amazing Race Australia.
As we reach the halfway point, the
teams go into overdrive
- Exactly what we needed!
- Yes!
Fast, fast, fast.
We gotta get there, quick.
Quick, quick, quick.
..a new contender rises
You're talking to the winners.
Ah! Om, lee-ah!
..and a favourite falls
Holy , I'm not gonna be able
to do this.
..hard.
If this costs us, I'll be so
