The Amazing Race Australia (2011) s04e06 Episode Script

Season 4, Episode 6

1
Previously on
The Amazing Race Australia,
we travelled to the land
of blue skies, Mongolia
Ah, Mongolia!
..where some dirty tricks
I'm not fine with it.
Cheaters.
..left a bad taste.
And in a photo finish
Get off, Jasmin!
Oh, oh, oh!
..Jasmin and Jerome kicked
the footy boys into second.
You are the first team to check in
..before Chris and Adrienne
crashed out of the competition.
You're eliminated, and your time
on the race is over.
We went through a few ups and down,
but the sun came down,
we were really happy.
Tonight, as we reach
the halfway point
Exactly what we needed!
..the remaining teams go
into overdrive.
Fast, fast, fast!
We got to get there quick.
Quick, quick, quick!
But as a new contender rises
You're talking to the winners!
..a favourite will fall
I'm not going to be able to do this.
..hard!
This cost us, obvious.
It's the halfway point of
The Amazing Race Australia,
and the teams have reached Mongolia,
a fiercely independent country
once ruled by the infamous
warrior Genghis Khan.
Today, our teams will begin
a battle of their own
on top of this sand dune,
where they'll need to dig
for their next clue
to continue the sixth leg
of The Amazing Race Australia.
Oh, my God.
Oh! I never get it right.
We came second yesterday,
and it ruined our streak
of four first places.
"Make your way back to Ulaanbaatar,
the capital of Mongolia."
"But first, dig up your next
clue in the dunes
to find one last task
before leaving."
"You have 173,000 tugrik
"for this leg of the race."
Let's go.
Go, go!
Teams have got to race their way
to Khongoryn Els Sand Dunes
at the south edge of the Gobi Desert.
At 1.3 million square kilometres,
it's the fifth-largest desert
in the world.
Once there, they'll have to
climb to the marked area
at the top of these spectacular dunes,
then dig to discover a box
with their next clue.
Conditions out here are extreme,
so there's a four-hour time limit.
Let's follow up our good day
from yesterday.
Yeah, finally got our wind, babe!
Finally got our wind.
It was just within a matter of seconds
that we beat out Tyler and Tom.
Yeah, and to knock those two
off their perch,
it was even sweeter.
Strategy for today is we just
want to limit our mistakes
and then, take care of our challenges.
Whoa!
Oh!
I see how this is.
Sneaky!
Oh, that's exactly what we needed!
Yes, yes, my friend!
Definitely chose the right driver.
Now, we're the second team
right now, so feeling good!
Our mindset today, we just want
to be at the top.
Oh, yeah, here we go.
Oh, yeah!
Let's go, let's go!
The sand dunes were just like
an ongoing mountain of sand.
All the teams get to the top
at about the same time,
and just jump straight into
this pit of sand.
We had to dig to find those clues.
How deep do you have to go?
Far out.
Nick, find anything?
Not yet, man.
Digging through the sand dunes
trying to find a clue
was just frustrating!
Oh! Not much tactic right now,
just trying to dig.
How cold is this sand?
Brr, my hands are freezing!
We grew up pretty much on a beach,
making sandcastles
from when we were young.
Like, has that taught us
any life skills
to help us today? No!
Nothing, Hayley?
Nothing yet, girl.
Ash.
What?
Shh.
What is that?
It's right here.
Yeah, he whispered to me
so no one else heard.
Keep digging.
And then, we started digging together!
We got it within about ten minutes.
Go, go, go! Go!
It was the perfect lead for us
for this leg.
Good work!
A Road Block.
"Who wants to wrestle
with this Road Block?"
It's gonna be a wrestling thing.
OK, I'll take it.
A Road Block is a challenge
that only one team member can perform.
Come on, underdog!
Get him, mate!
Get under!
Oh!
Here in Mongolia, wrestlers
are considered national heroes.
This Road Block will require
one member for each team
to introduce these mighty
warriors the Mongolian way
by song.
Teams will have to learn the chant
traditionally used to start a bout.
When the song's been successfully sung,
the wrestler's hat will be offered,
and they'll get their next clue.
Alright, no one's behind us.
Yeah, no one's even remotely
behind us, to be honest.
What a lead.
So, it looks like they're gonna
teach me a song.
I'm gonna have to perform it,
and then, the wrestling match
will begin.
Thank you, Mongolia!
Every day, we've just been
getting better and better.
We can really win this.
We've never had the luxury
of a light jog.
No.
The race is on.
There's so much sand.
We're still digging through
the sand dunes
trying to find a clue.
Sid and Ash got their clue
pretty quickly.
Hey.
Alright, let's go.
And then, Tim and Rod
not too long after them.
Doesn't feel great seeing
two other teams go.
It feels like we've been
digging for ages.
Oh, Jasmin!
And then, Jasmin and Jerome.
Guys, that wasn't that deep.
Stay positive, you mob.
Just keep digging!
Arms are feeling really,
really heavy right now.
We were probably digging
for about an hour.
Joey, Joey, Joey!
Yes! Oh, , that was like
right on the surface.
Oh, yes! Oh!
!
Oh, this sucks.
Oh, hey!
I actually felt really confident
going into this challenge.
I've got a bit of a music background,
so I know I could nail it.
Oh, this is hard.
Sid can't really sing,
so I'm a little bit nervous.
I can have an attempt.
I just wish he'd kind of hurry up,
'cause it's taking a little
longer than I thought.
We need to hurry!
Oy, Ash, they're gonna take
There's a team coming.
They're gonna be here for an hour,
like I'm actually good at this.
OK, alright, I believe you.
I knew I was gonna get
yelled at.
OK.
I'm on.
You can do it, Sid.
No?
He knows every pop artist
and song lyric,
like, word for word,
so let's just hope you're good
at Mongolian wrestle pop.
Yes!
Oh, my God, this is gonna be
my, like, Britney moment
up onstage.
Yeah!
Arriving at the Road Block,
we were confronted with these
Mongolian wrestlers,
and they were in the most
outrageous outfits.
Leather kind of nappy things,
and they had these little
pointy hats, like
What we wear on weekends.
You got it, Sid!
It's alright, Sid, try it again!
OK, let me practice.
Let me practice.
Let's just hope the rest of them
don't come for a long time.
Yeah, 'cause this is quite
hard, like memorising it.
Is that Jasmin and Jerome?
Yeah, looks like it.
It's so hard.
Yeah.
And the more people that come,
the more difficult it's gonna be.
The most challenging thing
was when the other teams
started singing,
on top of Sid trying to sing,
was I could see throwing him off.
As the time got on on the sand dunes,
we got a little bit more worried
because we've been at the front
of the race
for a lot of the time.
It was a bit of a reality check
having things not go our way.
I think I've dug everywhere.
We were just digging,
and there was no light
at the end of the tunnel.
We were first into
the wrestling.
But time was slipping by,
so we need to hurry up.
The most challenging thing
was when the other teams
started singing on top of him
trying to sing,
was I could see throwing him off.
Sid, hurry up!
When he was singing, he actually
started lifting his hands,
and like, he wasn't meant to,
but you could see that he was
putting everything into it,
and it looked incredible.
Just majestic.
Yeah! Thank you!
Mini Pavarotti.
Mini one.
Detour.
A Detour is a choice
of two challenges,
both with their own pros and cons.
In this Detour, teams must head
to the capital Ulaanbaatar,
and decide "dance" or "deliver."
Mongolian folk dancing
celebrates their nomadic heritage,
and express aspects of Mongol
traditional life.
Teams that choose "dance"
will perform Durvun Oird,
an intricate Mongolian folk dance.
They must nail all the moves
to get their next clue.
Teams that choose "deliver"
will head to Mongolia's
largest and most hectic market,
Naran Tuul.
At 40,000 square metres,
it's the size of six football fields.
Teams need to navigate through
thousands of stalls and people
to deliver boots, furniture,
and of course, an oven.
Once the items reach
their final destination,
the teams will receive their next clue.
Let's dance.
I can dance, too.
Yeah, let's go.
Alright, let's do it.
Singing, dancing.
I've had it all today.
It was incredibly difficult
to find the box on top of
the sand dune,
and it just started getting
hotter and hotter.
Oh!
Yes!
I reckon it's somewhere in the middle.
Maybe they're all in a circle,
like Viv and Joe were
there-ish, and then
I appreciate your logic,
but you just don't know that.
There was absolutely no
strategy between us.
We were getting worried
about being so far behind
the other teams.
Tyler! Yes!
And I eventually found it.
I found it.
Are you taking the piss out of me?
I found one.
Oh, yes!
Oh!
Yes, good boy!
Good work.
Let's get out of here.
Good work, Tom.
It was a good theory, keep digging.
Come on, Jerome.
You got this, babe.
As I was sitting there,
I was just thinking about Jerome's pop.
He was a singer,
and he was part of a Filipino
Aboriginal band.
So, I was just kind of hoping
that pop would help Jerome
through this song.
It looks like
they've got it.
Jerome smashed that challenge.
Well done, Jerome!
Oh, my God!
Thank you, thank you.
OK, baby.
I feel like we should do
the market, but
Yeah, let's do the market then.
I'm happy with that.
OK, yeah.
Let's go.
Go.
Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Well done, Joe!
Super proud because we overtook
Tim and Rod.
Whoo, yes!
Thank you, sir. Thank you.
Oh!
You want to try the dancing?
Let's try the dance.
OK, let's go.
Tim, don't stress about
the other teams!
You've got this, just stay calm.
You've got this, babe!
Argh.
OK.
How you going, Mik?
I'm really struggling.
We couldn't bear it any longer.
It was reaching onto midday,
we were cooking.
Don't feel close at all.
Teams, please come over.
After four hours,
we never found the box.
As a result of reaching
the time limit,
both teams will be held
and prevented from checking in
at the pit stop for two hours.
"Who wants to wrestle
with this Road Block?"
I'll do this one.
Alright, let's go, Mik.
They'll have to work hard
to make up this time
and stay in the race.
We can do this.
It was a bit of a worry
at this point,
'cause we knew the first team
was four hours ahead of us.
But it's The Amazing Race,
anything can happen.
You never know what is ahead.
Oh, the boys overtook us.
That's twice we've been
overtaken today.
Yeah.
We were first into
the dancing challenge.
This is the building,
it's quite a majestic building.
It was a proper international
dancing school.
Interesting.
We got into the stage,
and it was completely lit
and there was an actual audience.
It was incredible.
It was amazing.
As I looked at it,
I was like, "Oh, my God."
Yep.
Give us that spotlight.
We are at
Naran Tuul Markets,
where we're gonna find the key
items that we need to deliver.
There's the flag.
"First, deliver the boots
by hand."
To the marked stall that sells boots,
and ask for a receipt.
But all these boots?
By hand.
Huh?
Yeah, all these boots
All of them.
How do we carry this many boots?
Here I am thinking, you know,
a couple of pairs of boots.
It was boots over our neck,
had them hanging off our arms,
tried to tuck a few little
boots in the other boots.
Oh, my gosh.
Alright, let's give it a go.
OK, and navigate our way
through this market
while carrying all of these boots.
Ask someone.
Yeah.
Um, do you know where
all the boots are?
Do you know where all the boots
are in the markets?
Head down there? Thank you!
Sorry!
Excuse me, sorry.
Whoops, sorry.
Trying to navigate through that
market was really difficult.
Sorry.
There were really narrow
alleyways, and so many people!
Babe!
It was just insane.
Oops, sorry.
Sorry, I'm so sorry.
Babe!
Jerome!
Jasmin!
Slow down!
Jerome, where are you?
I was so embarrassed.
I couldn't get this Mongolian
wrestling sing off.
That's alright, Tim.
Just stay calm.
You got this, it was so close!
I felt, "I've got to just
pull this together
"so we can get ourselves
further in this game."
Yeah! Nailed it.
Yes!
Yeah!
Thanks so much, mate.
We're back on track.
Yeah!
If you can do that,
we can do a dance, I think.
OK, let's do the dance.
Let's do the dance.
Alright, let's hightail it now
while the teams are here.
- Sorry.
- Excuse me, sorry.
Sorry!
The markets are absolute madness.
Sorry.
Babe!
Jasmin.
Slow down!
Jerome, where are you?
Here.
I'm up here, babe.
There is some type of organised
chaos to this market.
Yeah, I can see the mark, babe.
Oh!
Go, go, go, go.
And we're able to find
the marked stall.
Oh, wow, babe.
Thank you, we'll be back!
Neither of us have
a dancing ability.
We're not classically trained.
No, that's a good one.
But we have a little boogie
on the weekends.
Oh, my God, so fast!
Alright.
The routine was much tougher
than I actually thought.
Wait, wait.
Ash, where's the Panadol?
I got a bad knee at the moment,
and I had to keep pivoting.
And knees are bent.
You alright?
Yeah, it's not the dance.
It's the fact that I can't
keep pivoting on one knee.
It got quite painful.
Do you want to do the markets?
No, we're here.
Like, I know the whole thing now,
so let's just stick to it
and I'll do it in pain.
OK.
They get time to get it right.
Two teams behind us,
there's no way we're catching
teams in front.
Obviously, for us we've been
at the front of the race
for a lot of the time.
I think as the time got on, we
got a little bit more worried
because this was becoming
an astronomical lead
that the other teams had.
Pretty confident in Tom
because he does have
very good pronunciation
of different languages,
and has always been sort of
a little strong suit of his.
I think he was gonna kill it.
Concentrate.
Yep.
Get the job done.
We're ahead, so we have the time.
Here it is.
No need to panic.
When we saw the initial
presentation on stage,
we thought, "Oh, OK,
this is actually not too bad.
"It's just a couple of steps
that we just need to nail."
Let's go.
I definitely felt like a proud
mama bear,
sitting there watching Tom
do his Road Block.
We were sweet.
Oh, thank God for that!
Yes, good work!
Thank you very much.
We'll do the dance, Durvun Oird.
Try that again.
One.
So, like this?
It was so hard. It was just
Very intricate.
I think we just completely
underestimated
how complicated the choreography was.
Is it down and then up, or up, down?
Ugh, sorry.
And then, we saw Tim and Rod arrive.
Oh, hang on, one sec.
No, let's go.
One, two.
Five, six, seven, eight.
We dance all the time around the house,
at the shops, in the shower.
Like, whatever we do, we're dancing.
So, we thought if there's a
challenge that's got our names
written all over it,
it's this dancing one.
Can we run through just that?
OK.
Feeling pretty confident,
and I looked over to Rod
and the look on his face
was literally like a deer
in the headlights.
I need to get him on track,
otherwise we're gonna lose this.
I can't get it, Tim!
I was like, "You can do this!"
Where are you stuffing up?
I don't know, it just gets too
fast and I'm just up.
Just do it with me, ready?
So, you go one
arms to the side,
like you came in for two,
and that's when you do the crazy spin,
up on down, down to Britney.
I was just channelling my inner
Christina, my inner Britney.
Like you're swatting flies,
you get a bit like
Just start from the beginning.
I picked it up like that then,
I got on a bit of a roll.
Four to the front,
arm, five, six, to the front.
Tim and Rod were just absolutely
nailing the challenge.
Let's try that one again.
So, it's just
And Joey looked like he was struggling.
I'm not getting this, Viv.
One, two, three
You want to switch?
If we can't do it,
we've just got to switch.
Yeah, like I'm dying right now.
Alright, let's switch.
OK, , sorry, Viv.
It's alright, it's alright.
We're gonna switch detours.
Like, that one was just a lot
harder than we thought it was.
I'm definitely battling with it.
Right, we should have made
the call earlier,
when we saw it.
Oh, it's alright.
We just got to make up time, OK?
After switching detours,
we were both stress heads.
I think we just have to get a taxi.
Just knowing that we lost so much time,
then we had to find our way
to the market
and getting a taxi in
Ulaanbaatar is impossible!
Right, we should have made
the call earlier.
I think we just have to get a taxi.
After switching detours,
we were both stress heads.
Just knowing that we lost so much time,
then we had to find our way
to the market.
Mm.
Oh, can we walk?
Or taxi?
Oh, two kilometres.
Finding taxis in Ulaanbaatar
is impossible.
What way did he say it was?
He said it was that way.
He said it was that way,
and then up there.
Eventually, we navigated
our way there on foot.
Joey, wait!
We slipping further and further behind.
Joey, flags, flags, come on!
Oh, my God, this market is crazy!
There are boots everywhere, Jesus.
I really don't want to go home
today, Joe.
I know, we don't want to go home.
Who's doing it, boys?
Nicko.
Yeah!
Oh, Nicko, you versus me!
So, when we went into the Road Block,
we knew that not only just
for the Road Block
but for the rest of the leg,
it's going to be neck and neck
between Hayley and Mikayla and us.
Oh, I'm getting it.
Hayley and Mikayla are a great team,
so we have one thing on our mind,
just to get as far ahead
of them as possible.
Is that a yes?
Nick got it, and then straight
after that, I got it.
Oh! Yes, girl!
Detour, we're gonna dance.
Let's go.
We're dancing!
Yes, we get to dance!
We can beat those boys in a dance.
Even though Nicko and Femi
are really strong competitors,
I was feeling confident
that we could beat them.
Nick and Femi are really good
at getting lost.
My knee got very painful.
You have it?
Yeah.
Time was slipping by.
I was like, "We need to get
a wriggle on."
We need to move.
So ha!
We got this! You can do it, Sid!
Oh!
No.
First two attempts onstage, we failed.
No.
OK, one more, Ash.
I wanted to practice upstairs
But I didn't.
What we do upstairs is what
we do here. There's no cue.
We keep doing it here 'cause
eventually she'll judge us,
whether it's right or wrong.
Stop, stop.
Let's go and practice one more time.
What's the point?
Like, we can practice here.
No, but we can slow it down upstairs.
It is a challenge keeping Sid calm.
Like, doing more stairs
is not going to help.
He does get stressed out,
and tends to take it out on me.
However I can give you
a few examples, mate.
Let's just do two runs up here,
then we'll come down, OK?
Ash, my knee's gonna pop.
We've got a bit of a lead,
but we need to hurry up.
You can do it.
Excuse me! Sorry, sorry.
Sorry.
The market was hectic.
There were stalls everywhere!
There were so many people.
I think I just got the word
for "excuse me" or "move", Viv.
Excuse me, beep, beep!
Babe, wait, wait, you need to move.
Finding our way around
that crazy market
was an absolute struggle.
Can
We're both hot and bothered,
we're both struggling.
Jasmin, steer it.
You got to steer it.
I'm trying!
I'm not strong enough.
That's where it went pear-shaped.
Don't get frustrated at me, I'm
not strong enough to steer it.
It's not that hard.
It is hard for me, I can't steer it!
Watch out, then.
Stop looking at me
and watch where we're going.
There's a big
Oh, Jas!
Babe, .
How did you not
I just said it.
OK, move about .
At that point, we're so
frustrated, and we just blew up.
Stay focused, mate.
We got this.
Might as well give it a shot.
Let's go, let's go.
Just talk me through it the whole time.
One, two, three, four
Yeah!
Thank you, thank you.
Thank you so much.
All we needed to do was mention
a few of our queens like Britney,
and do a few little actions
like "swat the flies"
and I would get it every time.
We got this.
Please be Pit Stop, please be Pit Stop.
Teams now have to race by
taxi to Chingissin Huree Camp,
and as the race gods would have it,
Vladimir Putin is in town and
the traffic is at a standstill.
They must get through the chaos
and arrive here,
home to the world's biggest ger,
and it's also the Pit Stop
for the halfway point
of The Amazing Race Australia.
Go.
I'm so proud of us, I'm so proud of us.
Oh, I see it, babe, I see it.
Right here, look, straight ahead.
At the end of the day,
we're all human, you know,
and we have our moments,
and we've managed to work
really well together
throughout this race.
Let's go this way.
Yeah.
You OK? OK, yeah.
Yeah.
We delivered the last item.
The end is in sight.
Thank you! Whoo-hoo!
"Make your way to Chingissin
Huree camp."
Where are we gonna get a taxi from?
Um, probably back at the front.
So, I've just got to
remember to keep my hands closed
- and fingers together.
- How do you know?
Huh?
How do you know?
Tim and Rod finished the
challenge and we lost our lead,
so we need to hurry up.
We got this!
You can do it, Sid! Whoo!
"Hurry! The last team to check
in may be eliminated."
Perfect, let's go.
Thank you!
In the boot, in the boot.
In the boot!
Taxi!
Yeah, come here.
We're going to Chingissin Huree Camp.
You know?
I also really hope that
that market is just manic.
I hope this isn't far away.
Yeah, me too.
You have phone, phone?
Phone?
What are you gonna do?
Google, Google Maps?
Google Maps?
Maps?
So, we ended up finding a taxi.
But when we jumped in,
the traffic was just insane,
which just added to our panic.
Fast, fast, fast!
We got to get there quick.
Quick, quick, quick.
Fast, fast, fast,
please, please, please!
Need a pit stop?
Race to 10play for
behind-the-scenes extras,
interviews and moments
you didn't see on TV
at 10play.com.au/TheAmazingRace
and on the 10play app.
Let's just do a lap.
Do a whole lap?
Yeah. Oh, it's so busy!
Yeah, Viv, I see it.
Wait, wait, wait.
Flag over there.
Oh, yes, yes!
Hello!
Last ones.
In this 40,000-square-metre market,
there's a lot of area to cover
and we've got little feet.
You know, we can navigate
quickly through crowds,
but we can't get around that quickly.
I really don't want to go
home today, Joe.
I know, we don't want to go home.
We might be small,
but we will never give up.
I'm just looking around
at, like, the signs.
Yeah, me too.
- We're flying.
- Yeah!
It was real dominance today.
Those markets were hectic.
I almost hit breaking point
in the dancing challenge.
Yeah, we stuck in there
and like stayed strong
right till the end.
We just got to crack on
as fast as we can.
We got this.
There it is, yes, yes, yes!
Yeah, yeah, here, stop, stop.
Just here's fine, here please.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Let's go.
So, we found the marked path.
Go, go, go.
Home of the world's largest ger,
and search the grounds.
Yeah, we got to search the grounds.
This way, this way.
This way.
Oh, my God, come on.
Yes, great, Sid!
Let's go, let's run it out.
Yay!
Welcome to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Thank you.
Sid, Ash.
You are
the first team to check in.
Yes!
And thanks to the award-winning
Bankwest Halo Ring,
you receive $1,000 each
for reaching the Pit Stop first.
Yeah!
Well done, fam.
Oh, so good!
I got to get in on that, well done.
Yay!
Well done.
First place.
Yo, you're talking to the winners!
Let's go this way, eh?
Here it is, here it is.
Yes!
Get it, queen!
Tim
Rod
You're the second team to check in!
How the hell did that happen?
Oh, my God!
Are you kidding me?
Would have loved that
number-one spot,
but honestly, at the end of the day,
number two, we'll take that,
happily take that.
Oh!
Let's just walk.
Let's just walk.
Jasmin, Jerome.
