The Gifted (2017) s02e13 Episode Script

teMpted

1 Marcos, it's Reeva.
She wants to do something so monstrous that it changes the world forever.
I need to stop her.
I can't do that by myself.
REED: Lauren's obsessed with that music box.
Her powers are changing.
She's becoming more violent, more powerful.
Andy went down the same path.
He was obsessed with my family history, - the power.
- No.
[PANTS, GRUNTS.]
I think it might be time for you to reach out - to Lauren.
- Bring her here? Your mind is connected to Lauren's.
We can reach her, through you, if you let us.
GLOW: Your ex, the one you told me about, you still have feelings for her? No.
It's it's a lot more complicated than that.
ERG: You gave up your life, everything you know, a man you love, all for what you believe.
This this is your community now.
Welcome home, Blink.
- - [SIREN WAILING IN DISTANCE.]
Pam.
Oh, thank God.
Hi.
[PANTING.]
I was getting worried.
What took you so long? Sentinel Services, they had a checkpoint set up on First.
They were checking IDs, looking for fugitives.
They weren't supposed to be there for hours.
- How'd you get through? - They were scanning for X-Genes.
Saw I wasn't a mutant, let me through.
We got to warn the others.
Evangeline's already on her way - to the border with the refugees.
- Wh Leo, no.
It's too dangerous.
Evangeline, she can handle things.
- Not if she's walking into an ambush.
- She's fine! Once she gets to Flint, she'll know what to do.
[STAMMERS.]
We don't know if she How did you know where she was crossing? Y-You.
I I think you told me.
No.
I never tell anyone about the crossing locations, not even you.
[LAUGHS.]
: It's not Leo, you must have told me, - because how - Pam, what did you do? [SIGHS.]
Sentinel Services, they they caught me three weeks ago.
But, Leo Leo, I made a deal, for us.
All those people are gonna d I'm sorry.
You're sorry?! They're gonna die.
There-there are mothers, children.
They would have caught them anyway.
Please.
Please, let's just go.
We can start over.
Please.
I love you.
The others warned me not to trust a human.
Leo Never again.
Get out of my sight.
Go! There's a couple in the west tunnel that could use this.
And the rest can go to winter storage.
When's the supply run? We move out soon.
The others are getting ready now.
GLOW: You know, you've been here for less than a week.
You don't have to come on every raid.
Just trying to do my part.
I don't want to be a mooch.
Hey.
Seriously, take your time, get settled in.
You don't have to prove anything.
We can handle this.
I'm just making up for lost time.
I spent so many years up there, hiding who I was.
Plus, I can't let you have all the fun.
[LAUGHS.]
: Yeah.
That's right.
Let's move out.
Looks like Zingo's missing Clarice.
[ZINGO WHINES.]
She chose to leave.
REED: Listen, I've been calling around, and besides Evangeline, we lost the leaders of the West, the Midwest and the South.
They're all dead.
We need to decide what - we're gonna do.
- THUNDERBIRD: I think it's obvious.
Gather together what's left, and we make a plan to strike back.
But, John, after what happened, why would anyone sign up? What other choice do we have? We gonna give up? Hide? You think we're in a position to start an army? - The Inner Circle is after Lauren.
- I can handle it.
But you can't keep waking yourself up every 20 minutes, not allowing yourself to dream.
And there's another thing.
My brother said that Reeva Payge has infiltrated the government.
ECLIPSE: And Benedict Ryan is leading the Purifiers in a nationwide crusade.
And the two of them working together This is exactly why we have to fight.
The Inner Circle, the Purifiers, they want the same thing: humans and mutants living apart.
They're gonna try to drive a wedge between us, forever.
If we do not act on this now ECLIPSE: John is right.
Lorna's risking her life to find out about this attack they're planning.
If she gets something, anything, we need to be ready.
[RUMBLING.]
[CHUCKLES.]
: That was insane.
Nice trick.
Yeah, you just gotta rub things the right way.
- Mm.
- Maybe I could show you sometime.
In your dreams.
Ooh.
So, we're blowing up statues now? We get this thing right, it'll be a lot bigger than statues.
[SIGHS.]
: Scale this thing up, can take a whole building down the same way.
[CHUCKLES.]
[GRUNTS, YELLS IN PAIN.]
Whoa.
Are you okay? No, it's nothing.
I just got sloppy.
Hey, uh, I sprung a leak over here.
Gonna go clean this up.
The new recruits seem to be coming along nicely.
What about the other project? Lauren? Oh, it's only a matter of time.
Is she still resisting? We're trying something new.
ECLIPSE: You broke into his room? I didn't "break" anything.
I opened some locks.
That's not the point.
The risk of doing that Just being there is a risk! If we're gonna find out what Reeva's planning, I'm gonna have to do some digging.
And, Marcos it was worth it.
What did you get? Building plans.
The White House, Pentagon, Sentinel Services Headquarters, the Capitol.
- Max can turn those buildings into explosives.
- Yeah.
Of course.
Their plan is to wipe out the entire government? For a start.
This attack is coming.
- [SIGHS HEAVILY.]
- And soon.
[QUIETLY.]
: Yeah.
I should go.
Hey, wait.
No more plans involving stabbing yourself.
Okay? I'll do my best.
Thank you.
[THUNDER CRASHING.]
GLOW: We usually have about ten minutes before the cops show.
BLINK: Perfect.
- Let's go shopping.
- Focus on food and fuel, things we can carry easily.
BLINK: Perfect.
Freeze-dried ice cream.
Never understood it.
It's not icy or creamy.
It's good.
Take it.
[DOGS BARKING IN DISTANCE.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
BLINK: Why am I hearing dogs? - Cops.
- BLINK: Cops? - You said ten minutes.
- They've never been this fast.
We have to get out of here.
GLOW: You guys, get down.
We have to go.
[BARKING CONTINUES.]
BLINK: They're getting closer.
Let's go.
GLOW: Hurry.
Get down from there.
MAN: This way, this way! Go! Hurry! COP: There they are! The mutants! - BLINK: Hurry! - COP: Stop them! No.
Mason! Grab her! [DOGS CONTINUE BARKING.]
I-I gave her something for the pain, but I can't stop the bleeding.
There's gotta be something more you can do.
Her blood I think the clotting factor's - different or something.
- "Or something"? Is that a medical term? I used to be an EMT, okay? I've never worked with blood like hers.
I gave her some O neg, but her BP keeps dropping.
[GASPING BREATHS.]
Glow's in really bad shape.
This is my fault.
With the Mutant Uprising, there's more security everywhere.
I The only thing that matters now is that we get her to a hospital.
- Blink, we can't do that.
- What are you talking about? - She's dying.
- She's a fugitive.
If we take her to a human hospital, she'll be arrested in minutes.
Could compromise our entire community.
Erg, she is not going to betray you.
Not intentionally, no.
But Sentinel Services can be very convincing.
So then what do you suggest we do? The best we can with what we have.
[GLOW PANTING, SHUDDERING.]
THUNDERBIRD: Come on, you guys.
We are the last of the Mutant Underground.
If you just listen for a sec We came because we thought you had a plan to beat the Inner Circle.
Have you seen the Mutant Uprising rallies in the streets? We're outnumbered, out-powered Nobody said that this would be easy.
The X-Men trusted us with this! The X-Men's trust isn't gonna stop Purifiers with guns.
Maybe your girlfriend had the right idea, - joining up with the Morlocks.
- That's a bit much, Gina.
Hey, this is exactly what the Inner Circle wants, all right? The Mutant Underground to give up.
For us to lose sight of our mission.
But once we abandon our principles, our only option is war.
ECLIPSE: Come on.
Look, we cannot let them win.
Everything is at stake here.
I'm sorry, guys, but if all you've got for us is speeches, then they've already won.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
You sure you're okay? No more problems with your powers? A few twinges.
But it's under control.
We need to focus on Lauren.
There's nothing you can do.
[SIGHS.]
More coffee? Lauren, this isn't gonna work.
You need to get some sleep.
I'll be okay.
You've been sharing dreams with Andy for months, and now you're afraid to sleep? He's different.
It's like he's probing my mind, searching for my weaknesses.
Lauren, we need to work this out.
Hi.
I'm so sorry to just come in like this.
- Clarice? What are you - I need your help.
A friend of mine in the tunnels, she was shot.
Can you come with me? Don't they have doctors down there? No, there's a guy, but he's-he's in way over his head.
She needs you.
The Morlocks are mutant separatists.
You can't just take - a human down there.
- She's dying.
And if anyone has a problem with it, they can take it up with me.
Caitlin, please, she doesn't have much time.
Mom, go.
I'll be okay.
I-I'll get my stuff.
Thank you.
I'm sorry.
We're not portaling out? No.
Not yet.
I have to make one more stop before we leave.
[MUSIC BOX PLAYING.]
Lauren, we discussed this, and I told you to put that thing away.
It's just a music box.
It is more than that.
And I am worried that it's making you feel worse.
Actually, it's comforting, in a way.
Reminds me that all of this has been a part of our family for a long time.
Wait.
Dad.
[MUSIC STOPS.]
My dad used to tell me this old German story about a father out riding in the night on horseback with his son.
And the son is afraid.
He says he can hear something terrible calling out to him.
So, the father tries to make him feel better and tells him it's the wind in the trees that he can hear.
But when they get home, the boy is dead.
The song that plays in that box is the story I just told you set to music.
It's called "The Erlking.
" And I didn't think about it at the time, but I I think my dad was trying to warn me.
About what? About the darkness that exists in our family.
Darkness? Dad, you're talking about something that's in my DNA.
Mom thinks it's a good thing.
She wants me to get stronger.
But you, - you keep - I am trying to warn you.
The von Strucker twins Were horrible people.
I know.
But they're also the only people ever who really understood what I'm going through, what I'm missing.
The power that exists between you and your brother, that level of destruction you can't want that.
I know it's wrong.
But the power It's incredible.
It doesn't feel evil.
It feels like I can make everything wrong with the world right again.
Yeah, but you know that's not true.
[SCOFFS SOFTLY.]
Of course not.
I'm sorry.
I'm just being stupid.
[SIGHS.]
There is no one down here to meet us.
Does Erg even know we're coming? [SCOFFS.]
I'll take that as a no.
Look, I ran off to get you as fast as I could.
You really think I can help her? Well, you guys both have glowing blood.
- That's got to count for something.
- Please, please tell me - there's more science than that.
- I [SCOFFS.]
I'm no mutant biology expert, but it's likely your powers are related.
And I'm certain there's no other choice.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
RAY: Are you a-a doctor? She's close enough.
I tried to stabilize her.
I-I've never seen blood like hers before.
I have.
The light's carried in the platelets.
But once the energy dissipates, it's more or less regular blood.
It does interfere with clotting though.
Oh, no.
Marcos.
What the hell is going on? You said that we couldn't take her to the hospital, so I brought someone here.
You brought a human down.
You've put our whole community in danger.
Okay, look, man, relax.
We're just trying to help here.
That's all.
RAY: Pulse is thready.
There's too much blood.
I-I can't see.
More gauze.
I'm sorry, but you can't be here.
You don't belong.
You should go back to your own people.
Everyone I know is a mutant, including my family.
Don't tell me who my people are.
We cannot have a human down here.
Well, you're gonna have one less mutant if I don't stop the bleeding.
Erg, please.
ERG: Fine.
[GLOW GASPING.]
[RAIN FALLING, THUNDER RUMBLING.]
Come on.
Lauren, come on.
[SIGHS.]
[GROANS.]
[ECHOES.]
: Lauren.
I've been waiting.
No.
No, stop.
- [THUNDER CRASHING.]
- [GASPS.]
You're back.
This needs to stop.
I'm never joining the Inner Circle.
Whoa, just-just listen to me.
I was wrong, okay? I don't want - to fight you anymore.
- Then what do you want? I just want you to be happy.
Do you remember what it was like when we were kids? How connected we were.
I miss that.
Me, too.
FROST SISTERS: We can have that again, just you and me.
We're the only ones who really understand each other.
I know you feel it, too.
Yes.
I miss who we were when we were together.
I miss Fenris.
So do I.
This is a dream.
We can do anything we want here.
Can't we just let go, be ourselves? What do you say? [EXHALES.]
[CHUCKLES.]
- Wow.
- Yeah.
It doesn't just have to be a dream.
You can meet me here tomorrow.
Think of what we could do.
I-I don't know.
You do know.
Think of what we can do.
Both of us, together.
No, Andy, I can't.
- Lauren.
- Wait! - Lauren! - Wait! Wait! [GASPS.]
Your blood's pretty.
- Yeah, so is yours.
- [CHUCKLES GROGGILY.]
You, uh, you enjoying that morphine there? - Oh, yeah.
- Yeah, you are.
[CHUCKLES.]
ERG: You said the transfusion would work.
Well, it bought her some time, but her blood still isn't clotting.
Look, I, uh I've seen this before with Marcos.
I-I think I can do something, but I need to get to the clinic.
No.
No way.
Between the Inner Circle and the Purifiers, that place is trashed.
Trashed or not, it's our only option.
Fine.
Blink and I will get whatever you need.
I need to go with you.
Out of the question.
It's far too dangerous.
Well, I need to isolate Marcos's platelets and mix them with an antiplasmin in a centrifuge.
And I am guessing you're not a pharmacist and a postapocalyptic pirate.
If we run into trouble, you have no powers.
We can't have dead weight.
I may not have an "M" on my face but I can take care of myself.
[ERG SIGHS.]
REED: Lauren? Hey.
THUNDERBIRD: What did the note say? She said she needed to get away to figure things out, - that I would never understand.
- Understand what? Her connection to the music box, and to Andy.
Did the note say anything about where she might be going? No.
This is all my fault, man.
It's no one's fault, all right? Except maybe the Inner Circle.
- If they get Andy and Lauren together - I know.
We have to find her, John, before they do.
POLARIS: So, how's, uh, this whole team thing work? Seems you got a system going.
Well, Max charges things with energy, I teleport 'em and Tico, he disrupts 'em with a shockwave.
How, uh, how how big can the boom get? I'll let you know when we find out.
[POLARIS LAUGHS.]
Yo! Which one of you was in my room? - What are you talking about? - I have had my cell tossed enough times in the joint to know someone was messing with my stuff.
You're drunk and paranoid.
Relax.
MAX: Don't tell me to relax.
Someone was in my room.
You're not in the joint anymore.
No one here is gonna mess with your stuff.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
[SCOFFS SOFTLY.]
I'll, uh, leave you to your family squabble.
Anything? Picking up something, but it's faint.
What's wrong? She's walking in circles.
She's confused.
Confused about what? Her powers, her place in this war.
Have you talked to her about this? I tried, but Lauren's experience is nothing like mine.
CAITLIN: Oh, geez ERG: My God.
What happened here? What didn't happen here? Purifiers hit this place hard.
I'm gonna go check the front, make sure we're clear.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why would the Purifiers hit a medical clinic? Because we're the only place in the area that treats mutants.
So mutants worked here? Actually, no.
Humans worked here.
Humans that were willing to risk prison to help people.
All people.
[CABINET OPENING.]
[ITEMS CLATTERING.]
Hopefully, the looters weren't into centrifuges.
Oh! That's one piece of luck.
Help me search that.
We're looking for antiplasmin.
- What is it? - It enhances blood clot formation by inhibiting protein.
Maybe start with what color it is? Right.
The one with the blue top.
Hey, the front area's even worse.
How long is this gonna take? I've got a really bad feeling about this place.
Then let's make it quick.
It's mutant lawlessness.
If they don't act like citizens of this country, why should they enjoy the rights afforded to those of us who choose to abide by the law? Even human protests have a tendency to turn violent.
Can you imagine the horrors we might soon witness if we don't get these animals under MAN: Why are you doing this? This is illegal! We've had reports of suspicious mutant activity.
We haven't done anything wrong! We're just going to visit my mother in Chicago.
- AGENT: Open the bags.
- You have no right - to do this.
- Stop, please! - Dad.
- No.
MAN: Stop.
Okay, just let us go.
It'll be okay, baby.
It'll be okay.
RYAN: You can't disarm a living, breathing weapon, which is exactly what mutants are.
[QUIETLY.]
: Yeah.
[SIGHS.]
Okay.
Looks like it's time.
Liar.
It was time ten minutes ago.
[LAUGHS.]
Yeah, well, I thought I should top you off.
How you feeling? I still feel like I got shot, - but thanks for asking.
- [LAUGHS.]
How about you? How have you been? That's not important.
You're supposed to keep me awake, so you have to answer all my questions.
- That's how it is? - Yeah.
It's the rules.
- Ah, there's rules.
- [LAUGHS.]
- [LAUGHS.]
- [PHONE VIBRATES.]
[SIGHS.]
Your ex? Yeah.
Lorna, everything okay? Okay, remember how you freaked out at me for breaking - into Max's room? - Yeah.
Okay, well, turns out it didn't go as well as I thought.
He suspects something, but I don't think he has anything solid yet.
Okay, look, you have to run.
Now.
If he tells Reeva, you're dead.
But if we don't find out what they're planning, - then more people die.
- [SIGHS.]
- And what about Andy, huh? - All right.
All right, look, if we can't get you out of there, then we have to get Max out of there.
What are we gonna do with him? Well, we both know I'm pretty good at getting people to talk.
Marcos, no, you hate doing that.
Yeah, I know but this has to happen.
Look, is there any way that you can find out, you know, uh, when he, when he goes out? When he might be alone? Yeah, there might be something I can do.
When I was a kid, I used to get into my school's computer, change my grades.
I didn't know you could do that.
I'm not some kind of hacker or anything, but computers are magnetic, and sometimes I can feel my way through simple stuff, like a password that's entered all the time.
I'm gonna see what I can do.
Get back to you when I can.
All right.
Just [SIGHS.]
Just be careful.
Yeah.
[SIGHS.]
What are you doing? Isolating Marcos's blood components to mix - with the antifibrinolytic.
- Right.
Well, I hate to rush you when you're science-ing, but can you just make this go a little faster? [BANGING NEARBY.]
- What was that? - Purifiers are outside.
- They're here? - We have to go now.
We have to get out of here.
Just bring the stuff.
The stuff doesn't work that way! I can't leave - until it's finished.
- We can't afford more casualties.
Well, then you go.
I'll come when it's done.
MAN: I'm telling you, there someone's in there.
He's one of them! - [GRUNTS.]
- No! [MEN SHOUTING.]
[GRUNTS.]
MAN: Take cover! - Now can we go? - Not without Erg.
I'm fine! - Let's go! - Let's go.
[SIREN WAILING.]
[CAMERA CLICKS.]
[WOMAN SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY OVER P.
A.
.]
Lauren was definitely here.
She did that to the Sentinel Services car, then she took off.
Why would she be this reckless? I don't think she means to be.
I don't think she can help herself right now.
Reed, she's not a little kid wandering around lost.
She's turning away from us.
She's headed toward her brother, toward the Inner Circle.
It's not as simple as that.
The power of this thing It's incredibly strong.
It's almost irresistible.
Are you talking about her, or are you talking about you? Reed, I think you understand more about Lauren's situation than you've told her.
You owe it to her to tell her the truth.
Well, then you need to find her for me, and then I'll do what I can.
All right.
Come on.
[CAMERA CLICKING.]
[PANTING.]
Okay.
Come on.
Come on, come on.
Come on.
Damn it! Come on.
Yes.
Okay.
Max, where are you? [PANTING.]
Gotcha.
[BEEPS.]
"Kilroy's Liquor Store.
" ECLIPSE: You said her BP is dropping.
- I got to give her more.
- You can't do this.
- You already gave more blood than you should.
- Look at her.
- What am I supposed to do, just let her die? - The nurse said, - if you lose any more blood, you could - Just back off! Marcos, you can't It's gonna be all right.
You're gonna be fine.
The things you're doing that's too important.
You can't risk it.
No Hey.
Hang on.
How is she? Oh, finally.
Get over here.
W-We're losing her.
No problems? You got the medicine? Big problems, actually.
But yeah, we did.
Get her propped up.
And we need a new sheet over here.
[SIREN WAILING IN DISTANCE.]
Lauren! I told you not to follow me.
Please, listen.
We can talk.
There's nothing to talk about.
Lauren, I'm not going anywhere until you talk to me! Lauren? It's all right.
I know what you're doing.
You're going to Andy.
I don't know.
You're confused.
I underst No, you don't understand! You don't.
You don't know what it feels like.
Yes, I do.
Because I've felt it, too.
What do you mean? I wasn't honest with you.
When we got the music box from Dr.
Risman, it wasn't the first time I'd seen it.
I found it as a boy in our attic.
I was drawn to it.
Like you.
The story I told you My dad wasn't warning me about the darkness calling to me.
Because he knew I'd already liked it.
I think it's one of the reasons that he tried to suppress my powers.
[QUIETLY.]
: I-I-I can't resist it anymore.
I know, honey, but you're not alone.
And I think I can help you.
[CLAPPING.]
Bull's-eye.
You shouldn't sneak up on a woman playing with knives.
Oh You know, you are really good with those.
Maybe too good to, uh, cut yourself by accident.
What's that supposed to mean? Maybe nothing.
Just seems weird, don't you think? - Mm.
Well, even the best have off days.
- Ah.
Do you know what else I think is weird? I don't know, man.
Dessert pizza? You were really interested in that hit job me and my team did last week.
I was just being friendly.
Won't make that mistake again.
Heather's right, you are paranoid.
I don't think so, sweetheart.
You see, my guess is I think you're forgetting who you're talking to.
I am Polaris.
My father was part of the Inner Circle before it even was the Inner Circle.
Around here that makes me royalty.
So if you're gonna run your mouth, you better have a lot more than a guess.
Sure thing, Your Majesty.
We should go.
Your heart sounds strong.
- Try to get some rest.
- Yeah.
Thanks.
You saved my life.
Thank you.
Aw, it's, uh it's nothing any guy with glowing blood wouldn't do.
[CHUCKLES.]
But now you have things to do? For Lorna? Yeah.
Yeah, well I guess she'll always have your heart.
I'll just have to settle for two pints of your blood.
[CHUCKLES.]
Stay safe.
Yeah.
Here's some extra syringes and some gauze.
You were right about her.
I'm sorry.
A girl can never hear "you were right" too many times.
As for the apology, I'm not the one you owe it to.
You don't have to say it.
I'm leaving.
I was never here.
That's not [SIGHS.]
I wanted to give you something before you go.
Much better.
Thank you.
[SIGHS.]
: All right.
Are you sure you don't want me to portal you guys out? Uh, it's fine.
We'll find our way.
Just follow the rats.
[LAUGHS.]
Will you please give Zingo a hug for me? Mm.
And, um We will say hi to John, too.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
Open my eyes There are stories outside Stories have always Been told Let the wind in the trees Tell its secrets to me Everything that it knows I wanna wake up [SHUDDERING.]
I wanna wake up I wanna wake up [SHUDDERS.]
I wanna wake up You said she was coming.
ALL: Where is she? I don't know.
Something's changed.
I can't feel her anymore.
I wanna wake up I wanna wake up I wanna wake up I wanna wake up I wanna wake up I wanna wake up What's the point of being free if I can't go where I want to go? Get off my ass, Heather.
[SIGHS.]
- What the hell? - Move real slow, or things are gonna get very hot in here.
What do you want? We're gonna go for a drive.
- All right? - Okay, okay, okay.
Okay, stay calm.
I'm just I'm just gonna put my seat belt on.
- Slowly.
- Okay.
[ECLIPSE CRIES OUT.]
