The Glee Project (2011) s01e04 Episode Script

Dance Ability

Nd matheus.
- For this assignment, alex stood out the most.
- Matheus, you broke my heart.
- But despite his winning streak, matheus still had To sing for his life.
- But you need to walk Into the room and say, "I can get any girl In this room, and I will.
" - The mentors totally loved the sound of lindsay's voice.
- What the heck just happened? You're a genius.
- And guess what? So does she.
- Did you hear it? - Yes.
- So that's what I did.
- Mckynleigh struggled to show The mentors her personality.
- There's a little bit of a disconnect.
- While cameron showed up with someone else's.
- I know how to write for that.
- And even though emily sang her heart out, It wasn't enough, And she was sent home.
Now only nine contenders remain, As they compete for a seven-episode, Guest-starring role on glee, And that's all you need to know so far on - the glee project - [laughs.]
- Oh, no! - Yay! Wait, dance ability? Shoot.
I'm screwed.
The theme for the week is dance ability, And I'm not the strongest dancer.
So to have to, like, come up with my own moves Is pretty frightening.
- All right, let's just try The first page of it.
Ready? - [giggles.]
All: hey - I think it's gonna be a great week for me, Because I am the best dancer out of the nine of us.
- One, two, three.
All: your lipstick stain - My mind is just blazing with happiness Because I love to dance, And I think it's gonna be fun.
- Let's go this way, now this way.
All: hey, hey, hey, hey hey, hey, hey, hey - The move I'm doing for the homework assignment Has a special name.
You know, I like to call it "the don't look like an idiot," Because I have no sense of rhythm When it comes to dancing.
And after what I went through Last week with being in the bottom three, I have to bust my freakin' butt to get back to the top.
- It should be like a semi-circle And then, like, matheus comes out And does this, and everyone else is kind of moving with him.
- Yeah.
It should be pop-outs.
Whenever I play with my band, I've never done any dancing onstage.
I just do, like, a move here and there.
But I'm thinking I'm gonna just, like, Put some of these moves I do in, like, a rock situation.
And hopefully it just rolls together nicely.
I, personally, I haven't been in the bottom three yet.
That obviously means I'm doing something right.
- That was good.
- Good job, guys.
- We're all sitting there, And we're waiting in anticipation For our guest host.
My mind is going crazy, Trying to think of who it could possibly be.
- Ha.
Ha.
Ha.
[screaming.]
I called it.
I called it.
- Hi.
- Oh, dear.
I love harry.
I never get starstruck, And I'm getting starstruck.
I'm just so surprised that we actually have a member Of new directions In our choir room.
It's just amazing.
- You obviously know harry shum, Who plays mike chang on glee.
- Yeah! - How you guys doing? - No! He's a good dancer.
This is bad.
Ooh! - It's safe to say that not everyone in glee Is as good a dancer as harry is.
- Nope.
[laughter.]
- But the thing is about dance, you know, Especially on the show glee, Sometimes it's not about being amazing all the time.
It's about showing your personality and just owning it.
- This week, your homework assignment Was a performance of hey, soul sister by train.
Harry will pick a winner who will get Some extra one-on-one coaching from him And a featured moment in the big group number.
- All right, I'm ready to see some cool moves.
Show me what you got.
[hey, soul sister by train.]
All: hey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey - your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left-side brains - I knew I wouldn't forget you and so I went and let you blow my mind - your sweet moonbeam the smell of you in every single dream I dream - I knew when we collided - Uh-oh! Oh! Nice.
- who was one of my kind - hey, soul sister ain't that mister mister on the radio - stereo the way you move ain't fair, you know - hey, soul sister I don't want to miss a single thing you do - tonight All: hey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey - hey - tonight All: hey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey hey-ey-ey-ey-ey tonight - Yeah! All right! Nice.
Good job.
- So, harry, what do you think? How'd they do? - First of all, good job For putting together a number And showing your individuality.
Let's start with the first one.
Cameron, what I loved is that you had this unique movement, But when start going into group numbers, Then you have to tone it down and know how To look like other people.
Mckynleigh, you kind of had the least memorable When you came out.
You have a powerful voice, So translate your powerful voice into movement.
Try and use that.
- Okay.
- And alex, you threw in some moves Because you thought that that's what you can do and, "I'm gonna show it off," Which kind of went against the grain of what the song was.
The best thing is to keep it appropriate to the song.
And samuel, you had a cool air about you.
Your eye contact and your face, you were just Really selling it.
- Awesome.
Thank you so much.
- Matheus, I loved that you made me smile And you definitely owned your movement.
And obviously, you can tell that, you know, You have a little bit of dance background.
- I don't.
- No? No dance back--well, hey, you made it believable, Which is great.
- So, harry, who have you picked as the winner? - Um, you know, the thing that really just Pushed it over is that confidence and the control.
And I pick samuel as the winner for that.
[cheers and applause.]
- I'm really shocked that sam won, Because he's not a dancer.
But at the same time, if I won, It'd just be like, "matheus, alex, matheus, alex," And that would be a damper for everybody else That hasn't won anything yet.
- All right, guys, this week, for your big group number, You'll be dancing, obviously, But you're not gonna be singing.
You're gonna be rapping.
[laughter.]
- Yeah! - You're gonna be doing Can't touch this by mc hammer.
[laughter.]
- called it! Called it.
- There's gonna be a lot of sweating going on.
I can tell you that right now.
That's a fast-moving song.
- Oh, shoot.
- Just remember a lot of hard work goes a long, long way, So don't be lazy.
- Good luck, guys.
- See ya.
- [sighs.]
- [grunts.]
Feel really good.
I won the homework challenge.
I didn't think that would happen.
I know I'm not the best dancer here at all.
Like, you're way better than I am.
You know more than I do.
But at the end of the day, like, it still, like, Really pumps me that I could impress someone, like, Like him, you know? - I really didn't have the mind-set to win.
I really didn't want to win, so.
- Why wouldn't you want to win? - Thank you though.
- 'cause I just didn't-- everybody knows I can dance.
Let somebody else have the opportunity to shine.
- Alex is a little bit self-centered.
He's obnoxiously, like, cocky sometimes.
- I was just like all of you.
It would take me forever to get choreography down.
I was like, "I'm not gonna let this beat me Until I work towards it.
" I just see so much of me in all of you, And I'm 18, so everybody else is older than me.
So just sayin'.
- Alex is arrogant.
Like I needed alex to dumb his part down In order for me to do it.
Like, at the end of the day, like, I got that fair and square.
- Au revoir.
- He's bluffing.
- Yeah.
Probably is.
[bell rings.]
- Okay.
Hannah.
This is gonna be fun.
I think hannah's gonna be really fun.
- Oh, yo, yo, yo.
- Oh, hannah.
- I'm really excited because we're rapping And I've done that before.
Is it okay if I wear these? It helps me get into character.
- Totally.
- Of course.
- Please do.
- I'm not a dancer, so I definitely need To totally kill it.
Sometimes people call me mc hannah.
- Mc hannah? - Yeah.
- It does fit.
- It definitely does.
I'd probably call my style of rapping, like, The skidoosh.
Like, it's just something I always say back home like, "oh, r-r-ruby-doop-doo.
" Like, doing stuff like that.
- Bring it for us.
- while it's rollin', hold on pump a little bit and let 'em know what's going on like that - yeah! That was hot! - my my my my music hits me so hard it makes me say "oh, my lord" - and this is the beat, uh, you can't touch - You really have a tendency to rush the last one.
Okay, let's do it again.
- I told you homeboy you can't touch this - Just a little bit more conversational, Like, "I told you.
" - I told you homeboy - You're still a little too growly.
- Oh, sure.
- I think rapping can be a lot harder than singing.
You have to convey emotion and energy And it's very individual.
- I've toured around the world from london to the bay - All right, let's just add a little dial-- A little more energy in.
- Okay.
it's hammer go hammer mc hammer yo hammer and the rest can go and play can't touch this - I think we got it.
Thank you.
[groans.]
Her delivery is just-- She had a hard time with the delivery.
Are you ready for some rap ad libs? - Totally.
The spotlight is on me Because I won the homework assignment.
There was, like, this little part where, Like, I have, like, rap ad libs.
[indistinct vocalization.]
uh uh what? What? ah! Skidoosh [laughter.]
- That was so awesome! - Kind of just initially retorted to, like, What hannah always does.
She's always like, "ruby-doop-doop," Or like, "skidoosh," and I'm just, like-- I'm just gonna use that.
- Can we just--just patent that right now And trademark it? Skidoosh.
- Skidoosh.
- Skidoosh.
That was, like, your own thing.
- Totally.
- samuel - What up? - How did it go? - I totally was like, ruby-doop-doo-da-boop a-boop, skidoosh - you did-- You did not! - Yeah, I was so pumped.
- You little-- - what? - Samuel had, like, a little Freestyle, like, rap ad lib type thing Because he won the challenge.
- Like[scatting.]
skidoosh She was, like, cracking up.
It was awesome.
- Huh.
He actually said "skidoosh," And I was a little bit frustrated, Because apparently nikki thought it was hilarious And, um, it wasn't his thing.
He didn't give me credit for it in the booth 'cause nikki apparently loved it, you know? - I think samuel is kind of cocky And it can be a bad thing in this competition.
No one is safe from giving a last-chance performance.
[bell rings.]
- You're messing up, so don't mess up.
- [grunts.]
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Y'all got me so scared right now.
Like, sorry, sorry.
[bell rings.]
- Can I have group two here and group one up here? All right, so-- Most of these kids have absolutely no dance training.
But as it is on the show, We only have a couple of hours to learn All of our numbers.
So it's gonna be quite interesting to see Who can pick up the moves and who can't.
Up, back, spin it around.
- Quit dancing behind me, 'cause I can't see you.
- Sorry.
- Okay.
[laughter.]
- They said you don't really have to dance To be in this show, but clearly, Somebody misinterpreted somewhere, Because this is dance week and I can't walk In a straight line, never mind dance.
[laughter.]
- All right, can I have cameron, hannah, and samuel? So it's like, "fresh new--boom-- And pants.
" - okay.
I see the moves happening and I see them as he does it.
I'm like, "oh, I can get that.
" But then it comes to actually making my feet move And my arms move, it just seems impossible.
I'm really scared about this week.
- [indistinct vocalizing.]
Just look up.
The ground will stay there.
- Okay.
- [indistinct vocalizing.]
- Oh, my god.
Wrong way.
Sorry! - Hold your space, hannah! Jeez! - Well, I just--I'm stepping back each time.
- How come they're able to do it? - I don't know.
'cause they're ninjas.
- Hannah is obviously uncomfortable with these moves, But I feel like she needs to try more.
Come on, hannah.
Come on.
You got this, hannah! [laughs.]
All right, homework for hannah.
Alex, will you stay with this group And show them what-- how to do this? - Okay.
The choreography is extremely elaborate for most people, But for me, I find it kind of easy.
You know how we went, "ah-unh-ah-unh"? Uh-huh.
Keep doing that.
Zack trusted me to teach other people dance moves, So I think he's happy with me.
One, two.
One, two, three.
Ba-ba-ba-ba.
Remember to step down.
- The counting was wrong.
The counting that you started us off.
- Sorry.
- I'm not being a diva.
I'm just saying.
- It's not gonna feel right.
It's not gonna look right to you, But it's his choreography at the end of the day.
Next group! - Alex does spend a lot of time Watching and critiquing everyone else.
- Tight frame right there.
Change shoes next time.
- I don't see him really dancing himself a lot.
But I hope when we film, He'll be able to put his all into it.
[bell rings.]
- This is a challenge.
Now we're in challenge mode.
- It's gonna be interesting.
I just want to see them lose their physical body And sell it up top.
- Right, right, right.
- So it will be interesting.
The whole number's a throwback.
Even though it is dance ability week, Robert, nikki, and myself are not looking for The best dancer, obviously.
We just really need them to commit to it And give a great overall performance Whether they suck or not.
- You're ad lib is gonna be first up.
- Okay.
- We'll just follow you, Let you do dance moves to the camera, Like anything you want.
Yeah, it's your day.
- I think it's gonna be awesome performing a rap number, Especially being that I won the challenge And some one-on-one time with harry shum jr.
- Like, reach for it.
Yeah.
Ba-ah-ah-ah.
So the lower you get, the better it's gonna be.
Ah-ah-ah.
Classic mc hammer.
It's kind of like you're on fire And you're on a horse at the same time.
Yeah, you should feel a burn in your thighs.
- Definitely.
Harry was just so, like, uplifting.
I felt really good about it.
- Are we gonna be able to see sam here? - what [scatting.]
unh-unh what? What? skidoosh - Hi, y'all.
I think you guys have, like, a pyramid Kind of setup, right? - Yesterday, we worked our behinds off Making sure that we got this dance ready, And I'm extremely tired today.
- Alex, I think it's, like, Because dancing comes easy to him, Like, he needs to work even harder to bring something out.
Mckynleigh, I got to see you today.
- What? - I got to see you today.
I need mckynleigh today.
- can't touch this - Mckynleigh, I got something.
Take it, like, 20 times further.
- Okay.
- 100 times further.
- She does everything right, But it's missingIn here.
- The heart.
- Right.
- Cameron, I didn't think I would ever see you do this.
- I didn't think I'd ever see me do it.
- [indistinct singing.]
so move out of your seat - Cameron is so nervous that nothing Is coming across on his face But "oh, my gosh.
What am I gonna do?" He's just having a hard time getting there.
- You need to now completely forget the movement And just think about your performance And not what your feet are doing.
- Does that go for all of us? Forget about our feet more? - No, it goes for cameron.
- Oh, okay.
- You would be, "don't look down.
" - "don't look down.
" These last couple of days have been really hard.
Just physically draining, mentally draining.
So I hope that all the hard work that I've put in will pay off.
I hope that I'm not in the bottom three.
- Good job.
Good job.
That was great.
- I'm not going home this week.
- We're just doing the whole thing here? - Yes.
- In the ghetto.
I told you, homeboy.
[laughter.]
yo! - Isn't he good? That's genius.
- I couldn't believe zack just said that to me.
Couldn't believe it.
- Damian has become a whole new contender.
I don't even - Absolutely.
I know, I know.
- my my my my music hits me so hard, it makes me-- oh, my lord So could you not maybe-- look at me.
Don't go out here - Okay.
- Into that.
Just keep it like, "boom-boom-bap.
" - In the rehearsal, I had a lot of space And things were changed.
- Just keep it here.
- Okay.
My whole head rehearsed that way.
- Yeah, [bleep.]
rehearsal.
You got it.
- Okay.
- Just keep your nuts over the "t.
" - [bleep.]
[bleep.]
up.
- Keep going! - Cut! - [grunts.]
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Y'all got me so scared right now.
Like, ugh, sorry, sorry.
- If you mess up, just play to the camera.
- Matheus, there's something you're doing early And then it's putting me off.
- Don't look at me.
Look at the camera.
Sorry, bro.
- No, I have to look at you.
- Yikes! [laughter.]
- No, I'm just saying, like-- no.
- Yeah, but honestly, you're messing up.
So don't mess up.
- What surprised me was matheus Snapping at damian a little bit.
- Yeah, can I tighten this up a little bit, please? - Asking, you know, "where's my water?" And, "make sure, you know, my mic is right.
" Matheus is turning into a divo.
- Most of these kids took the challenge of "I know I'm not good at this, but I'm going for it.
" - So many of them did really go for it That we're gonna have to really take every single detail Into consideration in making our decision.
- Yeah.
- The three of us mentors really got to learn a lot About the contenders this week.
It was shocking because the ones That we expected to ace this were struggling, And the ones that we expected would struggle Were coming through with flying colors Because of their positive attitude.
So I'm not really sure who we're going to choose For the bottom three.
- And marker.
- Here we go.
And cue playback, please.
- c-c-c-c-c-can't touch this - my my my my music hits me so hard makes me say "oh, my lord" thank you for blessing me with the mind to rhyme and two hype feet - feels good when you know you're down a super dope homegirl from the oak town and I'm known as such and this is a beat you can't touch - I told you, homeboy can't touch this yo, let me bust the funky lyrics - fresh new kicks and pants you got to like that now you know you want to dance so move out of your seat and get a fly girl and catch this beat - while it's rolling, hold on pop a little bit and let 'em know what's going on like that - unh, like that cold on a mission, so fall them back and let 'em know that you're too much yeah, and this is a beat you can't touch - yo, I told you can't touch this - why you standing there, man? - can't touch this ungh keep it funky now and stuff what? [scatting.]
what? What? skidoosh - stop - hammer time - every time you see me the hammer's just so hype I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic - now why would I ever stop doing this? with others making records that just don't hit - I've toured around the world from london to the bay it's hammer, go, hammer, mc hammer, yo, hammer and the rest can go and play can't touch this All: can't touch this you can't touch this oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Can't touch this.
- c-c-c-c-can't touch this All: can't touch this - I told you can't touch this All: can't touch this - c-c-c-c-c-c-c-can't touch this - All right, everybody.
[bell rings.]
- I just feel like you weren't really trying And I couldn't understand why.
We're going for a job here.
[bell rings.]
- Seriously, if I'm in the bottom three, I'm just gonna accept it and move on, Because, like, it feels like I just left everything.
I couldn't have done any more.
When your confidence takes such a hit As being in the bottom three twice in three weeks, It is quite disheartening.
- I think that, like, out of everybody, I mean, I feel like I was definitely the weakest.
You know, I feel like I'll be in the bottom three again.
- I don't think I gave a lot of attitude at first, So I don't know.
- I think my biggest struggle was just, like, Having confidence in my movements, 'cause, like, I'm not that comfortable with my body.
I'm not that comfortable, like, moving in front of people.
You know what I mean? - Yeah.
- So I literally had to just pretend Like I was someone else almost to get through it.
- Here we are.
- Hi.
- As you know, we have to pick three of you To do last-chance performances later today.
- The big group number did mean A lot of high-energy choreography, So for a lot of you, that means stepping Way out of your comfort zone.
Dancing on glee isn't about the steps.
It's literally about the performance.
Damian Marissa Lindsay Samuel You're called back for next week.
You can go.
[applause.]
- I was like, "yes!" I'm proud of myself, Because I think I have a strong character And I believe in myself, and you know, I'm just gonna fight until the end.
- Mckynleigh, this week was about being more vivid And memorable.
Connecting to the camera.
- I understand.
I understand that, 'cause, like, I've been doing stage works for, like, 13 years.
- I mean, it's very different between seeing something live And seeing something on camera.
And for you, your challenge is to make more of an impact.
- Cameron, you know, you're a rock star.
Like, that's much more of your thing and what you do, And I think it was tough for you.
- You know, I mean, obviously, I was really, You know, concerned about, like, my footwork Rather than stepping into a character And that kind of hindered me.
- You let your nerves get the best of you And it showed in your performance.
- Alex, you're a wonderful singer.
You're a wonderful dancer.
But you seemed a little over it And I couldn't tell if you were tired.
- Um, I did feel-- Not like I'm over it.
I was just kind of in a bad place that day.
- I just feel like you weren't really trying.
We're going for a job here.
- Matheus, we had extremely high expectations for you On this challenge, and I'm sure you felt that.
- The only note you really got was "stay on your mark.
" You were like, "but that's not how I rehearsed it.
" Well, so much of what we do on our show-- You don't know what you're gonna get until you're there.
Mc hannah, it was a dance-heavy challenge, of course.
And I know that, you know, dance is not Your strongest thing.
Um, in rehearsal, you were okay.
But I need to see you try in front of a mirror.
However, I mean, you did incredible And you totally owned it.
You made the callback list.
- [laughs.]
thanks.
[sighs.]
love you guys.
- This was a tough call.
It was really, really, really tough.
Cameron You're on the callback list.
- Oh, my god.
- You did ultimately take the direction.
That's the reason that you're on the callback list.
- Thank you.
- Matheus, alex, and mckynleigh, You three will be performing tonight.
- Mckynleigh, your song is Last name by carrie underwood.
- I do know the song that I'm given.
I performed that song in a lot of country competitions Back at home.
- Your job's simple.
Be unforgettable.
- Gotcha.
- Alex, your song Is I'll always love you, Written by dolly parton and made famous by whitney houston.
You know what you have to do.
Matheus, your song is Down by jay sean.
- Mm-hmm.
- It's cool, it's sexy, it's what you need to be.
Just go for it tonight.
Be yourselves and show ryan why you should be on glee.
Good luck.
Deja vu.
Let's get right to it.
Okay.
- I'll just listen to this first.
- It sucks to be in the bottom three again.
I definitely have that moment where I'm thinking, You know, "what is wrong with you?" well, I don't even know my last name [laughs.]
- That sounds amazing.
Just keep doing what you're doing.
You can make people feel with your voice.
You know, you can emote with your voice, But your face is just-- I mean, it's so beautiful, But it's not communicating what your voice is And then now I just saw you put it all together, So I'm like, "bravo.
" - Good, good, good.
- Go out there and do it.
Just what you did here, it's awesome.
Good luck.
- Thank you.
I'm thinking, "you can perform.
"you can do this.
You've been doing this basically your whole life.
" - hey Yeah, I already messed up.
Okay, let's do that over.
we make our great [voice breaks.]
escape Whoa.
I think I was given a last-chance performance Because I just put a lot of pressure on myself this week And I let that probably get to me and, You know, it kind of messed me up.
- So are you surprised you're here? What's happening? - You know, I just--I guess I deserve to be down here.
- This, it is about the mind challenge, Getting over yourself.
And you have to sell that confidence, Whether you have it or not, But you got to tell people that you have it.
- I'm gonna try all those things That ryan asked of me, you know, When I was in the bottom three two weeks ago, Which was to be sexy and to embrace myself.
So, um, hopefully I'll be able to show that.
- and I - Hello.
- Hey, girlfriend.
- How are you doing? - Good, and you? - I'm good.
You're good? - Yeah.
- Oh, good, good, good.
Okay, tell me more.
- Um [grunts.]
I think that my voice and my story And my personality belong on that show.
- I want to make sure you feel this song too, 'cause when you feel it, you know, you make the person Watching it and listening to you feel that emotion.
- I'm gonna go on that stage And be emotional and sing this song Like I've never sung this song before in my life.
[bell rings.]
- That's not at all in character With the person you are right now.
Do you think you're better than them? - So now we just need marissa on the steps.
- I ended up having a solo booty-popping session And it was awesome.
- Use the wall! Use the wall! - Slap it! - Oh, my god.
[cheers and applause.]
- Marissa is doing the booty pop.
[laughs.]
oh, my god.
Like, that is hot.
And the rest of us are committing sins in our head.
- Eww.
- Unreal.
- That was awesome! - Incredible.
It's in front of you, but you can't touch it.
You can't touch this.
[bell rings.]
- So mckynleigh has never quite connected Like she did in the original audition.
In the vulnerability challenge last week, When she stripped everything away, she did very well.
But then this week, we asked her to pop again And she faded into the background.
- Hello.
Uh, my name is mckynleigh abraham And I will be singing last name.
[last name by carrie underwood.]
last night I got served a little bit too much of that poison, baby last night I did things I'm not proud of and I got a little crazy last night I met a guy on the dance floor and I let him call me baby and I don't even know his last name oh, my mama'd be so ashamed well, it started out, "hey, cutie, where you from?" and then it turned into oh, no, what have I done? and I don't even know his last name today I woke up thinking about elvis somewhere in vegas I'm not sure how I got here or how this ring on my left hand just appeared out of nowhere I got to go I grab the chips and my pinto I hit the road they say what happens here, stays here all of this will disappear there's just one little problem I don't even know my last name oh, my mama would be so ashamed yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I don't even know my last name [applause.]
- Very nice.
- Great job.
- I thought you did great.
- Thank you.
- Well, during this last competition, You were dancing and you know how to dance And you can dance, but you looked like You were doing this covergirl commercial And you couldn't take on this persona Of rap, tough, hard girl, And instead, it was lost up top.
- I don't know if it's just something That's gonna take me a while to get.
And I mean, that's unfortunate, you know, but-- - I think you need a little bit more ferocity.
You're kind of there.
Um, I just wish you would sort of own it A little bit more.
I've always wanted to have a country singer in that cast.
I've never found that person.
You could be that person.
You were very fun.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- Great job.
- Thank you.
- She got better.
- Oh.
- She took the note.
She was interesting.
- So next is matheus.
- Um, matheus had a huge meltdown on set.
- Why? - He got upset because when he had to stay on his mark, He couldn't dance, and then he couldn't remember To sing while he was dancing.
- Wow.
- Matheus.
- Hey.
shorty in the house - [chuckles.]
- So I'm gonna be singing down by jay sean.
- The last time we saw you, I told you That you could be a sex symbol If you just owned your sexuality.
I want you to go nuts.
I want you to feel who you are when you sing that song.
- All right.
- Go for it.
[down by jay sean.]
- baby, are you down, down, down, down, down? down, down you ought to know tonight is the night to let it go put on a show I want to see how you lose control leave it behind 'cause we have the night to get away - [laughs.]
there you go! - and come on and fly with me as we make our great escape so baby, don't worry you were my only no need to worry even if the sky is falling down you'll be my only no need to worry baby, are you down, down, down, down, down? down, down baby, are you down, down, down, down? you'll be my only no need to worry baby, are you down, down down? - [laughs.]
- I applaud you.
I could not do that.
That was a real leap from the last time I saw you.
But from what I hear about you, You don't take notes well.
You get very freaked out when you have to adjust.
You sort of see things as you see them, And if you have to be told, "move to the left an inch or move to the right," It completely throws you and you shut down.
And that's not at all in character With the person you are right now.
- Okay.
- The show is about being your better self.
If you want to stay in this competition, I think you have to rise to the occasion of your gift.
- Thank you so much, really.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- Thanks, matheus.
Bye-bye.
Okay, who's next? Between either being a complete diva or nothing.
So that was the difficulty.
- Okay, and that's why he's here.
- Hi, I'm alex newell and I'll be singing And I will always love you.
and I eee-I will always love you I will always love you my darling you oh-oh-oh bittersweet memories is all I'm taking away so I wish you joy and happiness but above all this I wish you love and I ee-I will always love you I will always love you I will always love you I will always love you [applause.]
- Well, there's no disputing That voice, man.
I mean, you have something very special.
And the thing about this week, from what I heard, Is that you actually felt that you wanted To throw the challenge because quote, um, "you wanted to let other people shine.
" - Yeah.
Somebody else needs to shine sometimes, And I can't always be the one to jump up and to be like, "here I am.
I'm gonna win this.
" I mean-- - You think you're better than them? - No, I don't--I-- - But why would you say, "yeah, I'm gonna throw it away.
Let them do it.
"? Why would you do that? - It was a dumb move.
- I get how you could come on and sing those songs And make people cheer.
But I think you need to earn that a little bit With more humbleness.
I'm more interested in the pain That makes you want to be that character.
What is that about? - Well, I'm gay And it's something that I've learned throughout my life That that's not good, that's not right.
But I just want to be me and I want to be free Of how people accept me and don't accept me.
- How are your family and friends dealing with that? - Only person that knows in my family is my mom right now.
- And when you told her, what did she say? - She said, "I will love you "no matter who you are, no matter what you are.
This is unconditional love.
" - Mm-hmm.
- My mother's my inspiration and that's what Gives me the drive to keep going sometimes.
- Well, you need to be this person.
You need to be more secure in your specialness.
Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
Oh, this is the hardest week of them all.
- It is.
- Hey.
- Hey.
- What's up? - Let me ask you this.
Who were you the most surprised by? - My nerves are going up and adrenaline.
I was like--there was a part where I was like, Half singing and then taking my shirt off And I was like-- and I was, like, dancing And I was going for it and they were cracking up And it was insane.
I'm almost making my mind-set that I might go home So that it won't be like as much as--of a hurt.
- Well, what about mckynleigh? Talk about mckynleigh.
- I'm intrigued because she keeps getting better.
I think that's why tonight was hard, Because of the two that repeated, I felt they brought it.
I felt that they fought for their place.
- He told me--he's like, "yeah, we don't have anybody Country on the show," he's like, "that can actually sing country.
" He goes, "and I've really wanted that.
" And I was like, "okay.
" - So the thing about alex, it's like, If you're in this competition, you cannot say, "I am throwing it this week for somebody else to shine.
" That's just insane.
- I didn't know that either.
- You killed it, didn't you? - The only thing that he said that was bad Was I could humble myself more.
- Well, I think I have my mind made up.
- Mm-hmm.
- Do you? - Unfortunately, yes.
- Yeah, unfortunately, yes.
Me too.
- My choice is-- - yes.
Don't you think? - Yeah.
Right? - Unfortunately, I agree.
- Okay.
- Hey, guys.
SoHere we go again.
And the list is up, so Go take a look.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Let's go.
Oh, man.
Thank you.
I love you guys.
[soft pop music.]
This has been my dream, you know? And to have that taken from you, It's hard to think about.
- I've been struggling the whole time I've been here With the same thing, so I definitely feel Like I could be going home.
- I'm not confident enough to think that I'm not going home.
But I'm hoping and praying that I stay.
- Oh! Oh, my gosh! Yes! Oh! [grunts.]
yes! Oh! [grunts.]
- [sighs.]
- I feel like I've kind of lost an opportunity, But I got to meet some amazing people.
I feel like I've done the best I could do, So I'm ready to go and see wherever my career takes me.
[all vocalizing.]
there's nothing you can say there's nothing you can do there's no other way when it comes to the truth so keep holding on 'cause you know we'll make it through we'll make it through [bell rings.]
- Nice! - A duet! - Cameron was a little uncomfortable With our intimacy.
- I feel like I've cheated, mom.
Both: darlin' I need you now - Stop laughing! - [laughs.]
- Matheus, think of it this way.
You're gonna be gay for a day.
- Just a day.
Don't freaking blame this on me, okay? - For more information on the glee project, Go to oxygen.
