The Glee Project (2011) s01e10 Episode Script

Gleeality

So here's what you missed on "the glee project" Out from 40000 contenders just 12 made to the glee project campus.
At the last 9 weeks there's fights You'd make me upset all the time.
There's tears Some made friends while others made enemies.
Don't frickin' blame this on me, ok? They all wanted to win.
I want to win this competition More than I want to breathe.
But not everyone could take the pressure.
Maybe this isn't for me.
Now we're down to the final four.
-Wow.
-It's scary.
Lindsay's tired of ryan Saying she doesn't have a personality onstage.
He was completely wrong about me.
And meanwhile, because sam avoided the bottom three For so long, it kind of bit him in the ass.
I just found out that ryan wants me to be vulnerable.
Sam, that was week three vulnerability.
Alex is super-talented but he could also be super checked-out, Which is super frustrating for the mentors.
We're going for a job here.
Damian has grown a lot, But he already plucked his four-leaf clover When cameron saved him from going home.
Obviously the judges don't like me that much.
They're willing to send me home.
Now the final contenders lay it all on the line In hopes of winning a seven-episode Guest-starring role on season three of glee.
Find out whose dream will become a reality On the season finale of [laughter.]
"gleeality!" "final" in capital letters.
Oh, what a perfect song! We finally get to do don't stop believin'.
[intro to don't stop believin'.]
It's glee's, like, signature song, And it's just perfect.
shout out 'cause we haven't stopped believing this entire journey.
boulevard, their shadows I'm not about to stop believing now, Being that it's the final week.
I like what you and I just did.
Yeah.
I thought that was cool.
With the singing and, like, just singing to each other.
Now I've got to fight, And this is when it counts more than ever.
And I'm not about to back down whatsoever.
I have to get this.
How do you not be glee When you're singing this song? I consider myself a great character for glee.
There's nothing that's gonna stop me from getting it Because I've been through so much in this competition, So I'm willing to fight for it.
-That is actually really weird that one person Is gonna be walking away with the grand prize.
I want to win and I'm not ashamed To finally just be like, you know what? Yeah, I do want to win and Yeah, it is a competition And I love these people, but they are who I have to beat, And I will be fine with it.
-"gleeality!" -what is glee about? I think it just means they want to see who they think -We can be on the show.
-Fits for the show.
Not who's good, who's glee.
The four of us Are extremely close to being on glee.
I want to work on glee.
I want to sing, week in, week out.
I want to act.
Top four.
I want this so much.
I really do.
Who is our guest gonna be? [school bell rings.]
Our guest has just walked in.
-Oh, my gosh! -Oh, I knew it! -Oh! -Hi, guys.
Oh, for god's sake.
It is the one and only mr.
Ryan murphy.
-How are you? -Oh, my gosh! -If we weren't nervous before, we're certainly nervous now.
So this is it-the final week of the glee project.
At the end of the week, one of the four of you Will have n a seven-episode guest-starring role on glee.
For the final homework assignment, We chose a song which has a very special place In the hearts of everyone who loves glee Don't stop believin'.
You're all in don't stop believin' red.
[laughter.]
And you know, that song to me is the show, Which is kind of why we saved the best for last in a way.
The stakes are high today when you perform it.
Without further ado, are you ready to get into it? -Yeah.
-ok, let's do it.
[intro to don't stop believin'.]
dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah just a small town girl livin' in a lonely world -Wait, stop.
Stop, stop, stop, stop.
Stop, stop.
Did you guys work on choreography or anything? Did you work on movement? -Mm-mm.
-We did, but not It just seems flat.
Um, I think you need some help.
Hold on a minute.
Let me get somebody.
Dah-dah! [overlapping shouting and cheering.]
I'm back, gleeatch.
[cheering and laughter.]
-Coming back for the final episode, I had some hesitance to be here And to, like, get involved again.
But when I got here, I realized this show has made me Into a performer, you know, and I owe everything to it.
[laughter.]
-It's incredible to see everybody, you know, But hannah and cameron, I'm just so happy to see them.
[laughs.]
As far as the final four, Obviously us contenders That did not make it as far as they are Are of course jealous of them.
I mean, who wouldn't be? But, you know, obviously I'm happy for all of them.
-So are you guys ready to do this now? And I won't interrupt this time.
Here we go.
dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah just a small town girl That's better! - livin' in a lonely world she took a midnight train goin' anywhere just a city boy born and raised in south detroit he took the midnight train goin' anywhere shout out some will win some will lose some were born to sing the blues - oh, the movie never ends it goes on and on and on and on strangers waiting up and down the boulevard their shadows searching in the night streetlights, people livin' just to find emotion hiding somewhere in the night don't stop believin' hold on to that feelin' streetlights, people oh don't stop There you go.
-That was awesome.
-Very good.
[laughs.]
-That was pretty amazing and pretty awesome.
Great to see you guys.
You're all so talented.
Let's have the final four come here.
-So guys, there isn't going to be a homework winner today, Because from this point on, It's all about who's gonna win the glee project.
So let's talk about the final big group number this week.
We're taking all 12 of you To the top of a 35-story skyscraper in downtown l.
A.
-Skidoosh! Right on! What? -To perform pink's raise your glass.
Yes! -This final video is playing a huge role in ryan's decision Because all of you Are doing a last-chance performance this week.
-I think the key is to just be vulnerable And emotional and inspirational, And for your final performance, This is the first time you will get to choose your own song.
-What? Oh, jeez.
There's no room for mistakes With this last-chance performance.
We get to pick our own song, So if you mess up, you just look stupid.
-You really have to sort of dig inside and make a decision About what you want to show and how you want to show it.
-So I'll see you guys at the shoot.
Bye, guys.
[school bell rings.]
dah dah dah dah dah dah dah -Oh, I'm so excited! [laughs.]
It's so good to see you! -It is so good to see zach again.
I am super excited just to get the groove back on.
-I missed you, zach.
-I missed you.
I missed all of you.
All right, so we're on a helicopter pad On top of a building, And I saw the pictures and it looks very scary.
Maybe that's the challenge.
I don't know if that's what they did on purpose but, um Push, cut.
-So yeah.
[laughs.]
Sabotage.
Performing on a helipad will be hella awkward Because I'm scared One of these old contenders might push me off.
-Up, boom, point, boom, boom.
With the left, six, seven.
Now raise your, up and point, boom boom.
-Yay, dancing.
Eh, not so much.
[laughs.]
I'm just kidding.
I'm actually having a really good time with the choreography.
It's really fun being back.
-Six, seven, with your bah, bah, bah, hit, hit.
Nice.
Who thought we'd end up with these four? -Good luck to half of you.
[laughs.]
-It is a little weird having everyone back.
I also feel like people are wondering, why us? Why are we the top four? You know, what did they do that I didn't do? -All right, a couple of things.
I really want you to make sure That we still put as much emphasis on this As you would if it were for you.
Right now, we just want to end the season strong.
I thank you so much.
I am so happy that y'all are back.
I mean, it was so nice to see you.
Um, and that's all.
Hug me and leave, you sweaty animals.
[school bell rings.]
Last video.
Whoo! He's so intense and serious.
That could be his downfall.
Don't jump off the sides! My eyes are freaking out, Seeing all of you guys together again.
I've missed you guys.
We've missed you.
-My husband adam, the executive music producer of glee, Is gonna be coming in today.
He's gonna be the one that'll be working with whoever wins.
We'll see you in there.
This is the last chance for these contenders, And I hopehat they don't let the pressure get to them.
Let's see what they got.
-Hello.
-[laughs.]
-ok, so we'll just hit it.
ok.
It's time to pull my guns out and shoot off.
It's time to be the last girl standing.
party-just came too early [laughs.]
-And too high.
party - party crasher, panty snatcher -She doesn't like to be told she's not on pitch.
raise your glass for me -Good.
-She's not as versatile.
-And she does have an issue with perfection.
-Nobody's perfect, you know.
When you hear your voice back, There's nothing perfect about it, but she sounds good.
-Moving on, should we just go ahead and give it a go? All right.
- I love when it's all too much 5:00 a.
M.
Turn the radio up where's the rock and roll? Nice.
Well, well, well.
-I'm having the best time of my life, you know that? -You're making me have the best time of my life.
-Thanks, guys.
Cheers.
Thank you.
-Nobody's that nice in Hollywood.
-But maybe they are in ireland.
Uhh! Hello, mr.
Samuel.
Hello.
-Let's start off the verse.
-Cool.
wwill never be, never be anything but loud and nitty gritty um yeah.
-Just try and get more tone out of each note.
Ok.
- just come on and come on and raise your glass Hold up, hold up.
"glass" should be just a tiny bit longer Like you were doing it the first time.
-Oh, ok.
raise your glass -Uhh! No, I'll get it, though.
just come on and come on and raise your glass -Are you holding back at all? I don't know.
-Or are you giving it all you got? Maybe I can give it more.
I know I can do this.
I know I can.
-What up? -hey.
How'd it go? -The stuff that I kept screwing up on Was all the "come on ands," so fair warning.
Just prepare your "come on ands.
" Thank you.
Sweet.
-It's ok.
-Awesome.
Thanks.
Alex is arrogant but, like, at this stage of the competition, I'm so focused on winning that, like, screw it.
Like, I'm not gonna let alex bring me down.
-Hello, alex.
-hey, girl.
Let's just get right in.
- just come on and come on and raise your glass come on and come on and raise your glass So, um, alex, You did those "come on ands" better than anybody else has.
whoo For him to say that filled me up with joy and happiness.
-Did she like it? -She loved it.
She was like, ah -I feel like alex, lindsay, and damian are doing great.
It kind of feels like I'm the only one that really messed up today.
I might have, you know, blown it just a little bit.
-Now we're gonna get everybody in and do some shouts.
ok, let's do it.
raise your glass raise your glass Whoo! Awesome! [school bell rings.]
-Last video.
This is gonna be really big.
This is gonna be big and high And if you guys look up to the top of this building, We're gonna be performing on the roof.
Dance, fun, energy, yeah! -yeah! [cheering.]
-I'll see you guys in a minute.
-Oh, my.
-Gosh! -Oh, my gosh! -Whoo! -Today we're on location for the last big group number.
Each of the final four will have a stand-out moment in the video Where they'll be collecting the eliminated contestants As they make their way up to the roof for the final scene.
This video is the contenders' last chance To show us and ryan that they can pop on camera And stand out more than the other three.
You guys come forward.
Cross.
Don't jump off the sides! -Let's go.
-Whoo! don't be fancy just get dancy -There's a helicopter circling around us.
L.
A.
Is stunning.
It's incredible.
I feel on top of the world.
I feel like a member of the beatles.
-So ryan now is trying to find who he can write for, Create a character for, And someone who can step right into glee.
How do we think it's going? How do you think everyone's doing? -I think samuel's one battle this whole competition Has been being stuck in his head, And that could be his downfall.
-So damian-he has come so far and he is so loveable.
Is that gonna be enough to win the competition? -This is where him and lindsay, you have the exact opposite.
It's-damian does have that accessibility.
He is the underdog.
Ryan's note to lindsay is that he can't find her.
-Can she convince ryan that she is relatable? -Walk.
Go ahead, walk.
You just walked off the stairs.
-Alex falls in and out of his professional moments.
When some of the other contenders Are constantly working on their craft, Alex, sometimes you have to bring him back And pull him into focus.
-At one point or another, all of these final contenders Have struggled in a bigger number, And this will be their final chance to prove to us That they've listened to our feedback Over the last nine weeks.
[clack.]
-Here we go.
And cue playback, please.
[beeps.]
[intro to raise your glass.]
- right, right, turn off the lights we're gonna lose our mind tonight what's the deal, yo? -Hey, what's up? -Yo! - I love when it's all too much 5:00 a.
M.
Turn the radio up where's the rock and roll? -Somebody tell me now.
-Come on, girl! party crasher, panty s Cool, cool, cool.
- call me up if you're a gangsta Yee-haw! don't be fancy just get dancy why so serious? - so raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways all my underdogs we will never be, never be anything but loud dirty little freaks won't you come on and come on and raise your glass just come on and come on and raise your glass just come on and come on and raise your glass just come on and come on and raise your glass -Oh, shh! My glass is empty.
That sucks! so if you're too school for cool - and you're treated like a fool - you could choose to let it go - we can always, we can always party on our own so raise your glass - so raise your glass if you are wrong in all thright ways all my underdogs we will never be, never be anything but loud and nitty gritty dirty little freaks so raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways all my underdogs we will never be, never be anything but loud and nitty gritty dirty little freaks won't you come on and come on and raise your glass just come on and come on and raise your glass just come on and come on and raise your glass - oh, raise your glass, yeah just come on and come on and raise your glass for me That is a wrap.
[cheers and applause.]
-It's the last wrap of, like, music videos that we'll ever do.
In this moment, I'm just really happy To see how much of a family we've become.
I can't deal! Now that the music video is shot, I'm feeling so emotional.
I just want to burst out into tears but I can't.
It's time to focus.
-I've done my best in the music shoot.
Tomorrow I have to bring it.
I want this so much.
I'm so close.
-It's not the end.
It's only the beginning.
-Within 24 hours, our lives will change, And that is so much bigger Than anything I've ever been a part of.
[school bell rings.]
-It all comes down to the four of you standing here now.
Everything is going to come down To your very last-chance performances tonight.
-From 40,000 applications down to 12 finalists, Through ten rounds of homework assignments, Choreography rehearsals, vocal recording sessions, Video shoots, and last-chance performances, It all comes down to the four of you standing here now.
-So tonight, one of you will win a seven-episode Guest-starring role on season three of glee.
Given what's at stake, You were given the choice as to what you would like to sing.
Lindsay, what have you chosen to sing? I am singing gimme gimme From the musical thoroughly modern millie.
-Why do you think this is the song That's going to show ryan what he needs to see? -Um, the song is actually quite vulnerable in the beginning, Which is what ryan always wants to see from me.
-As you know, at this point, You can have the best voice in the world, But if you don't have heart, it's not gonna connect.
Damian.
-I have chosen beyond the sea by bobby darin.
Ryan has said to me on a few occasions That he wants me to be a lead male And he wants me to be lively.
-Out of the final four competitors here, You are not the best singer, dancer, or actor, But that's ok, because ultimately, This is about finding the person That ryan and the other writers want to create a role for, So your challenge is to make sure that you can outshine them.
-Samuel, what are you going to sing? -I'm going to sing jolene by dolly parton.
Like, I just want to sing this song, and I don't even In the weirdest way, I don't even really want to practice it.
I don't want it to be anywhere near perfect.
I just want it to be really organic And I just want it to be like I would play it at a coffee shop And just be in my own little world.
-Maybe instead of thinking that you're in your own little world, You should invite us into your world.
-Alex, what are you gonna sing? -I'm singing I am changing from dreamgirls.
It just goes along with how I want to branch out And to change and to do female types of roles.
-You need to show him you're confident And that you're ready for this And that you're not a one-note character, That you're more than just a diva.
-Everything that you guys do and say on the stage tonight Could make the difference Between winning a role that will change your life forever Or going home.
-We really, really want to make sure That all of you give The performance of a lifetime tonight.
-Some familiar friends from glee As well as your former competitors Will be watching your performance tonight, And ian brennan, co-creator of glee, Will be joining us again as well.
All right, time to get to work, guys.
We'll see you shortly.
Right.
Ah.
-Mmm! That is a sexy guitar.
Oh, we're gonna make out.
It's on.
I need to nail my song.
I need to sing it well.
but I want it I also need to show ryan who I am Within the span of two minutes, So that is my challenge and that is my goal tonight.
changing I've decided to do drag for my last last-chance performance.
It's something that I hold over all the other competitors, That I can change my sex at the drop of a dime And I can put on a dress and look like a female And I can put on a suit and look like a man.
It shows my versatility.
[guitar music.]
- jolene The thing with the song jolene is, It's just all about fighting for something, And that's what I'm doing here.
Like, I'm fighting.
please don't take him just because you can I can admit people are better than me here.
I'm not the greatest singer here.
I'm not the best actor here.
But you know what? I'm still gonna fight to win even though, And I think that's what this song completely means to me.
-I need to get everything right tonight.
You know, I need to get the ideia right.
I need to get the performance right, I need to get all the moves right, I need to get the mood right, the vocals right.
Everything has to be right.
-This is the biggest performance of my life.
I've had so many different performances in my lifetime, But this, this one right now is it.
-If you want to win this competition, though, You have to put it all out there tonight, Give it everything you've got and make no mistakes.
There's no room for mistakes.
[singing.]
[school bell rings.]
Today is do or die.
-It is time to take the stage.
My heart is racing.
-I'm not fighting to save myself anymore.
I'm fighting to win this.
-I know my life could change in a matter of minutes.
-This really affirmed it for me.
We've made our decision.
[school bell rings.]
-I don't have a ton of friends back home, But I seriously have gained 11 of the most amazing best friends in this whole world.
I feel so blessed and lucky to be with you guys.
But to the four, you guys, You guys are gonna go out tonight and make magic happen.
-Whoo! -Yes! -Yay! -Aw! -Nikki, erik, the contenders, and some of the guest mentors Will be joining us for the last-chance performances.
-This is cool.
Oh, my god.
-I'm excited.
We really want their input To help us determine which of the four contenders Will win the glee project.
-It is time to take the stage.
My heart is racing.
This is the biggest performance of my life.
[cheers and applause.]
[laughs.]
Hello.
I'm lindsay, and I'm singing gimme gimme From the musical thoroughly modern millie.
And let's get the show on the road.
[cheers and applause.]
[intro to gimme gimme.]

Valentine my bags are packed I'm first in line gimme, gimme that thing called love [cheers and applause.]
[laughs.]
[applause.]
What do you think? -She's good.
She can really sing.
-That was the best vocal, I think, too, She's been since the beginning.
-The best.
-Mm-hmm.
-And let me tell you, mentally, that is not easy.
But I'm ready.
I'm not fighting to save myself anymore.
I'm fighting to win this.
[cheers and applause.]
Hello.
I'm damian mcginty, and for my last performance, I'm singing a song called beyond the sea, And this is for hannah and cameron, so -Oh, my god.
-Aw! Let's go, boys! [intro to beyond the sea.]
Whoo! - somewhere beyond the sea somewhere waiting for me my lover stands on golden sands and watches the ships that go sailin' it's far beyond the stars it's near beyond the moon I know beyond a doubt my heart will lead me there lead me there, lead me there soon we'll meet, I know we'll meet beyond the shore we'll kiss just as before happy we'll be beyond the sea and never again I'll go sailin' [cheering.]
no more sailin' so long, sailin' bye-bye sailin' sailin', sailin', sailin' sailin' move on over, captain Ooh! [laughter.]
[cheers and applause.]
-Oh, my god.
Oh, my god.
[cheers and applause.]
Oh, my god.
Oh, my god.
-He's like a little grown-up.
He's like a little old man.
-He is.
He's like an old soul.
-But see, I think he's so young.
-Oh, he is.
-That's what I like-his youth.
Today is do or die.
Today is where I stand on the stage and bare my soul And hope to god that it translates in this music.
[cheers and applause.]
-Hello.
-Hello.
How you doin'? Uh, my name is samuel larsen.
I'm gonna sing jolene by dolly parton.
[clears throat.]
jolene jolene, jolene jolene I'm begging of you please don't take my man your beauty is beyond compare with flaming locks of auburn hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green your smile is like a breath of spring your voice is soft like summer rain and I cannot compete with you, jolene jolene jolene, jolene jolene please don't take him just because you can now you can have your choice of men but I can never love again he's the only one for me, jolene and I had to have this talk with you my happiness depends on you do whatever you want to do, jolene jolene jolene, jolene jolene please don't take him just because you can [cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
[laughs.]
-Whoo! [cheers and applause.]
-I love that song.
-I do too.
-I think that he's great.
Really, really good.
He's [bleep.]
incredible.
Yeah.
-I'm nervous because ryan might just want to see alex And not the drag character.
I'm just full of emotion And I know my life could change in a matter of minutes.
[cheers and applause.]
Hello.
I'm alex, yeah.
Um, I'm singing I am changing from dreamgirls.
[intro to I am changing.]
I am changing trying every way I can I am changing I'm gonna start right now, right here I'm hoping to find a way to understand but I need you I need a hand all of my life, whoo, I've been a fool who said I could do it all alone? how many good friends have I already lost? and how many dark nights have I known? walking down that wrong road there was nothing I could find all those years of darkness could make a person blind but now I am changing I'll get my life together now I am changing yes, I know how and nothing's gonna stop me now [laughter, cheers and applause.]
Oh, that was amazing.
So what do you guys think? -It's so hard, 'cause they're all so likeable and adorable And great.
-Alex was incredible.
Sam was great.
Lindsay? -Lindsay, her voice is incredible too.
Darren? -Lindsay would be such a wonderful foil to, Like, a rachel berry kind of, like, character.
-They're all so different but sam's just that cool boy That could give puck a run for his money.
[laughs.]
-Well, it's interesting, 'cause when alex came out, It's like, I feel like he goes with glee so well And just represents a whole group of people That are never represented on tv.
-My reason for damian is he embodies the underdog quality.
He has a magnetic personality that everybody has responded to.
-And erik, of the four, who is the best actor? The best actor was lindsay.
Whatever note I gave her, she could pinpoint it and deliver.
Mm-hmm.
-ok, we need you guys to step out And we'll try and figure out what ryan's decision is.
And then we'll bring you back in.
Robert and nikki and I Have been through this process now for ten weeks, And we've saved who we can save, but I think at this point, It really is who you can carry through.
It's a great argument for damian that, you know, yes, He's a foreign exchange student, but he can be brought in And sort of groomed into this leadership role.
-And samuel's a person that I think There's nobody like him on television, not just on glee.
-And you cannot deny how powerful lindsay is on camera.
Acting-wise, she blows the competition away.
-And I felt tonight was her best performance, And I think the thing that I wanted her to keep doing That we said week after week after week, She finally did at the end.
-And I do think alex is good or great always, But when he is in drag, there's something special.
That's a very brave thing.
That's a brave, brave performance.
-And he's, like, 18 years old.
Whenever he came out, I was fascinated by him.
-This really affirmed it for me.
I know exactly who would fit, Who I'd be most excited to write to.
-ok, well, it has been difficult, But I think we should bring everybody back 'cause we've made our decision.
-We've spent a lot of time in the past week Talking about this decision, which has not been easy.
We've had a lot of arguments in that writers' room Because it's not about any of your individual talents, It's about the needs of the show.
Let's just get right to it.
Lindsay, I've been hard on you 'cause I keep saying, "who are you? Where are you?" And, you know, tonight you really brought it.
You came the farthest for me in this competition.
I think you're just pure light.
Damian, you know, You were sort of the whipping boy of this competition, But I think the thing about you That impressed me the most every week is, No matter what we asked you to do, You did it with a smile on your face And a great amount of humility, And I think you've gotten better every single week.
Sam, you've always fascinated me.
You have something about you that's very wholesome And yet something about you that's very dark.
There's an intensity to you.
You sort of have this sort of cool, indie rock spirit That we don't have on the show.
Alex, for me, in this competition, You were the most moving, and in many ways, I think that you sort of sum up what the message of glee is, Which is being yourself against all odds, inclusion.
I really believe that you have a great future ahead of you.
With that being said, I have to tell you You're not the winner of the glee project.
-That's all right.
-ok.
