The Hero (2013) s01e06 Episode Script

Endurance

Last week on Hero: The first contestant was eliminated My choice is Shaun.
and the eight remaining teammates had to face the truth.
- Yes.
- No.
- No.
- What? - "1 lie.
" - You lying snake.
Rachel, Patty, and Lydia stepped it up in the team challenge.
It was the worst I've ever felt in my life.
Then the team sent Lydia to the Hero's challenge, where she showed America that brains are mightier than brawn.
- A hero is born, not made! - How epic do you feel? Yay! She put the money in the pot, which now stands at $430,000, and had to make another hard decision.
I had to choose you, Rachel.
Only seven heroes remain.
Who will go home next on "the Hero"? 1x06 - Endurance We're down to the nitty-gritty right now.
Something gonna change, you think? Oh, man, everything changes.
With only one week before you vote, America, these contestants are beginning to face questions they may have never asked.
What kind of person are they when it comes down to the wire? I don't know what's gonna happen.
I don't care.
Let's just go.
I think everybody's on edge.
Elimination number two is over with, but right now I'm not really thinking about the endgame here.
Well, now it's gonna be one left behind.
That's gonna be crazy, dog.
It's hard, too, because a twist can happen at any moment.
Whoa, oh.
I'm walking towards the kitchen, and I see the screen.
"only four can go," and I'm like, "god, they keep making this harder.
" Is there a clue? Nice.
I haven't had my moment yet for a hero's challenge.
Not much time left, and I know I got to get on the team challenge To even have a chance at the Hero's challenge.
"only four can go.
" Only four? What the hell? "descent into the innermost cave.
" Boom! Boom, boom, boom, boom! "if you are successful in this team challenge "your time allotted to complete the solo hero's challenge "will be doubled and you'll earn $20,000 for the American red cross.
" This is huge, guys.
Whoop-whoop! Whoop-whoop! Descent into the innermost cave.
And And 80 g's.
$80,000.
Yo, I have to go on this one.
I love bats.
Of course you [bleep.]
love bats.
Bats, spiders, snakes, hopefully jaguars.
Oh.
I'm gonna medicate him.
Everybody wants to go.
You know, Marty starts immediately, "oh, I can beast this, I'm the best.
" You know, and Marty's really starting to irritate me.
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Oh, wow.
What? What? Really? So this is the last hero's challenge? Yeah.
There is no way I'm not in this [bleep.]
I'm like, "wow, this might be The last opportunity to eliminate somebody.
" If I go, I'm gonna do my best, Whoever goes on the Hero's challenge, To make sure they have the best success.
Charles, you have my vote, Because you've expressed to me of wanting the Hero's challenge.
So don't I, so we'll fairly have To go head to head on that.
This is the last hero's challenge, And I haven't been in one yet.
This might be my last chance To prove to America that I'm the Hero.
I really want to just show That I'm not afraid of a challenge.
Yeah, but you've done that, Patty, like 10 times.
You did a hero's challenge.
You did.
Marty, you beasted it.
You did.
You talked to your family.
There's no way I'm not going on this team challenge.
I will fight till the end.
It's the first time I've fought for something.
When can I step up and say, "I want to face my fear.
- I want to go in"? - Well, I'm gonna stay out, Because I did the Hero's challenge.
I want someone else to have the same opportunity.
It's not like I don't want to go, but last time, I told you, Dave, you'll have my spot next time.
Look, here's the thing.
What are we thinking? Between Marty and Athena? Is this the thing? Ugh! I want to go on this.
I've been sitting around, man.
I know, Marty.
We all have been sitting around.
Marty is not gonna back down, And Athena's not backing down.
There's a lot of tension.
Like, I swear to god, bro, I can't [bleep.]
sit around.
If I sit out of this [bleep.]
I'm [bleep.]
going on the next one, I'm telling you right now.
No one's made a No one did this when they had to sit out.
You guys decide.
I don't even care.
Seriously.
You do care, though.
That's so childish.
I don't know what Marty's deal is.
Throwing things and swearing and yelling Just 'cause he couldn't be in a challenge.
[bleep.]
I think this game is wearing on people.
We've all had our breaks.
I got in a fight with shaun and was yelling at him.
That wasn't very mature, But a true hero can overcome that And always carry himself with some class and dignity.
If you think you can go out there and kick ass, then go.
And just be honest.
Marty has never, ever taken a temptation.
If we don't vote her in, then she's gonna be angry at us, And she'll take another bribe.
I have people I need to impress, too.
I need to do this for me.
It's not about that.
Like, you do have another challenge To prove yourself you do.
Bottom line is I do want Marty to go.
If I had to pick one, I'd pick Marty.
If you feel like you can go, then go.
If Marty says he'll let her go, I'll let her go.
Then decision made.
You can go.
In a way, my gut's saying I made the right choice, But my brain is saying, "you're a stupid asshole.
" Listen, I told her she can go, Because she wants her moment, And this could be the last chance.
Hopefully, it pays off.
I know we're not gonna lose if I go.
Okay, here's the thing.
Here's the thing.
I'm gonna tell you right now.
We're talking about who deserves it.
Just so you know, Marty, we want you to go.
Thank you, guys, but, honestly, like I said, You know, she can go.
She wants to get her moment.
You know, I've had plenty of moments.
Let her go.
- You sure? - Yeah.
Everyone wants Marty in, And Marty thinks he's doing the good deed By letting me in.
And he looks at me, and he says I'm giving this to you, okay? Oh, are you giving me this one? Is this your game to distribute to everyone? Cool, Marty.
Thanks for the handout.
What's wrong with Marty? That's a competitor, right there.
But he let her go, so he has to just be cool.
The stakes have made everyone very tense.
You know, what's really at stake here is We got to get through the team challenge to help the solo challenge, Because if someone fails a hero challenge, they're out of here.
On three.
One, two, three.
Heroes! Go, go, go! We're on a mission! We got this.
Ah.
We get up to this spooky, "star wars"-looking lake.
I'm really not in boston anymore.
When we heard we were going to caves, I instantly thought vast darkness.
Okay, what's this? And we get there and it's A totally different first part of the challenge Than I expected.
Oh, tablet.
"in four different places around the lagoon, "in the trees, and on the cliffs around them, "you will find traditional relics.
"each station has their own weapons "bow and arrow, spear, a slingshot, and Rocks.
"the challenge is for you to take turns "and use each of these primitive weapons "to strike and shatter the indigenous relics.
"once all four relics have been shattered, "decide which two move on "to the second part of the team challenge.
"once decided, the two heroes moving on "must get to the top of the canyon.
The others will wait at the boat.
" Okay.
All right.
They'll have 30 minutes To complete both parts of the team challenge.
These guys are exhausted.
They're beat.
And when we do feel like that, the best thing to do Lower your head, drop your shoulder, dig your boots in, and push back.
Hey, there's something right there.
- Is that a relic right there? - There we go.
There's these different weapons.
Then there's this pottery that's up on cliffs and up on trees, and we have to use these weapons to break the pottery.
And once we do that, then we've completed the first part of the challenge.
Go for it, man.
Ugh! It's too low.
Too low.
Go, go.
That is the smallest pot I've ever seen.
Bum! Gonna pray this is the hardest one.
We're pretty bad shots.
There's Rocks flying to the right And to the left and above it.
Nothing was working.
I don't think there's enough rocks in Panama to do this.
Fudge.
Oh! Watch your head.
We are doing the best we can.
Patty's really struggling.
Watch it.
Coming right over top of you.
This challenge definitely made me know that there were egos involved.
People thinking, "Patty, she can't throw.
So, Patty, bend down.
I'm gonna throw over you.
" You're missing, too.
So why is my missing any different than your missing? Nice! Let's get some arrows, man.
Come on.
We've got a lot of time to make up.
Go.
Just go.
Just move on.
Ugh! I'm looking at Patty, And every time she shot the bow, it landed at her feet.
Aw.
Why doesn't it shoot? Yes! Aw! Come on.
It's frustrating 'cause you're using energy, your arm's getting tired.
It almost feels like it's an impossible task.
There you go.
You got it.
It's down.
It's down.
Yes! We have to get this done in a certain amount of time, Because if we don't, the second half of this challenge Is going to be compromised.
Well, that didn't work.
This is, like, actually really hard.
Ah! It's not breaking.
David and goliath, guys.
Let's do this.
You okay? - You strong enough? - I'm good.
Ready? Hey, there's the spears over there.
We got to cross over.
Come on.
Should we go this way anyway? - You okay? - Jesus, Dave.
It's raining, it is atrocious, And these are definitely not ideal conditions.
I don't know what the trick is.
Trick is hit it.
Got it! Whoo! I'll get it.
I'll get it.
I'll get it.
Now we have to send two on to the second part of the challenge.
After this morning, I just don't want to fight.
What do you think is the best idea? 'cause we're sending you.
You pick who you want.
Because Charles did so well in this challenge, We felt it was an earned role that he can go in And he can pick who's gonna go in with him.
You guys are all my team, man.
I'm just thinking about the hero's challenge tomorrow.
It's gonna hurt the Hero's challenge.
We got to make sure we can accomplish.
I'm expecting Charles To pick me so that we have the best shot At getting the full time for the Hero challenge.
Good.
Okay.
I think that's good.
I think that's good.
He chose Patty for some reason.
I am stumped.
This hero's challenge is serious.
Someone's going home if they lose.
Knock it out, man.
Charlie hurt himself by taking Patty.
I probably would've been the faster, better choice.
- Ready? - Ready.
When I said, "Patty," I knew she was ready.
Good, Patty? Good.
All right.
This is her moment, and she needed it, And I didn't want to take it from her.
And if the Rock pops out, I'm gonna die.
Ready, love? - You're good? Not hurt? - Not hurt.
Perfect.
All right.
"it is 180 feet down to the cave river system.
Descend into the cave by rope" - "And get back to the boat.
" - All right.
They are headed into a cave where only heroes will emerge intact.
We got a lot of time to make up.
When the odds are against them, a real hero rises up and fights his way through.
Lean back, and let's do this.
We're doing it.
Trust the rope.
I am.
You're good.
Let it go.
Yeah.
Just glide down like you're flying.
I hope picking Patty Is not the stupidest decision ever.
- You got it? - Patty's twisted.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Everybody in America knows my fear of heights, And it is 180 feet, And all I can see down there is black.
You're looking good.
It's exhilarating and terrifying.
And one big step Yep.
For each of your kids.
Hey, alex, connor, maddie, What do you think of mama? Talk to me.
Talking.
- You good? - Yeah.
It's just really dark.
It's good.
I'm right here.
We're almost there.
Patty, look at you! Charles! Patty! I'm so freaking proud of you! Time is still ticking, But at least we got that part over with.
We're gonna find a tablet.
Yeah.
Right when you get down, we landed in water.
I'm not digging it, but now we have a mission to do.
I'm kind of scared a little.
Oh, my gosh.
You sure you're okay? Yeah, I'm good.
I'm great.
All right, I see light up there.
Might be tablet or something.
Oh, my god.
I hope so.
See what's up there? I see a ladder.
- You good? - Yeah, I'm excellent.
Don't you worry about me, man.
I think I was worried about Patty, so I couldn't worry about myself.
Go get it, Charles.
I'm right behind you just in case.
But she didn't need the help.
She was just trucking along.
She was focused.
Currently, there's $430,000 in the global prize pot.
You can have $50,000 to keep, But the money is taken from the global prize pot.
Heroes, do you want to "a," pass on the offer, "b," split the money, "c," one of you take all the money.
I've been true to my word, And my word has always been at each mission, I won't take an offer.
You do what you want, and I will support it.
You know, it's weird I haven't had an offer yet Until the very end, And, honestly, it's like real money, you know? It's not a game when it comes to the money.
Money would help a lot of things with my family.
Thinking about how much it would help my mom.
Who's more important The people here or the people back home? It's up to you.
It's your call.
Hey, this phone's ringing.
Hello? Hey, guys.
I got an offer for you.
- Of course you do.
- Great.
- It's a big decision, so listen up.
- What do you got? As you know, next week, America's gonna be voting, and depending on how America feels about you, This could be your only shot at making any money.
Here's what I got for you.
One of you will get $35,000.
The other one will get put back in play And then be eligible for the Hero's challenge Right alongside Patty and Charles.
But to do so, you have to take That speedboat and a very comfortable car ride Back to the house, while stranding your partners With that crappy boat behind you.
They'll also have to ride on a bus called diablo rojo The red devil.
But it won't affect the game, Except for maybe how they feel about you.
This one was actually really tempting.
Call you back in five minutes for your answer.
Thanks, Rock.
There really isn't any consequence.
$35,000 goes to one person, And the other person is eligible for the Hero's challenge.
If we take the $35,000, Then one of us is back in contention For the Hero's challenge.
It's your call.
I know I'm not doing it.
- No, I'm good.
- You're good? Yeah.
It's the Rock.
He's calling us back.
Let's see.
- Hello.
- Hello, Rock.
Guys, I need an answer.
We're not taking the offer.
I'm not.
- No.
- Neither one of us.
So be it.
Got a long, long ride home.
This is a game, and everyone right now is playing it.
Every decision matters.
I hope it doesn't sink.
And the long road to redemption must be traveled in one small step or slow boat ride at a time.
Here we go.
It was really tempting, but at this point in the game, I've survived two eliminations.
Doesn't it feel good in your heart to do the right thing? I'm a little pissed off, but, yeah.
And, to me, the $35,000 wasn't worth pissing off everyone else in the house again.
I hate my life.
I was waiting for an offer, 'cause I knew this was what I wanted to do.
Would eddie do it? Of course not.
I have not proven everything I need to prove, So I don't take the money.
- You ready? - We're ready.
One, two, three.
- Success.
Go.
- Three minutes.
- Here, here, here.
- Go, go, go.
I got it.
We've got three minutes to get out of the cave, back through the jungle.
Go, go, go.
Stay with me.
Stay with me.
Come on.
Come on.
It's deeper than I'm It's okay.
It'll get shallow again.
Go, go.
We're going through this snake-filled bat [bleep.]
water.
There's almost no strength left in me.
Watch yourself.
Watch yourself.
Come on.
Go, go, go.
Aah! Go, go, go.
Come on.
Come on.
You're okay.
You're okay.
Please don't give up on me.
Go, go.
Go, go, go.
Just go.
Charles is like, "come on.
Don't give up.
" And I'm thinking, "I'm giving it everything inside me.
" Come on.
Whoa! Please don't give up on me.
I'm gonna need the time.
I can see Patty's starting to get tired.
And I'm pushing her, like, "we got to go.
" 'cause I'm thinking, "we got to get as much time For the final hero's challenge.
" Almost there, Patty.
Go.
Go, go, go! Come on, Patty.
Come on! Come on, Patty.
We're almost there! Almost there, Patty! Tablet.
Tablet.
It's disappointment like I never felt, Because when you give it 100%, You can't believe that you didn't make it.
I'm so glad I went through it with you.
Thank you for the opportunity.
You know, my initial thought when I saw the, "you failed," Was, you know, if I picked dave, we would've won.
And I am worried that whoever gets sent To this hero's challenge we don't have as much time, And there's a good chance that person's not coming home.
That was a good run.
That was a good run.
Why, when you do the right thing, do you get screwed? Me and Athena get on this old, rickety boat, And we take off, and we felt every wave.
I mean, we were on these hard little wooden seats.
And I'm so soaking wet.
The decision I made to not take another $35,000 today Was the right decision, because I'm still in this, And I still want to win, and I still can win.
Uncle Dave.
Let's go find this crazy-ass bus Diablo rojo.
Every great hero starts at the bottom.
Every great hero has to crawl to victory, And I am slowly crawling back.
all right.
Gracias.
Bueno.
Ah, sí.
Gracias.
Some people can say Athena Maybe didn't take the money because I was with her.
There's another part of me that really believes That even if I wasn't there, she wouldn't take it.
She definitely redeemed herself in my eyes.
You do the right thing, You get the short end of the bus.
Where are they? For real, dog.
Ohh! Aah! Are we smiling? No we didn't win, but - What? - What? it was an incredible mission.
- Wait, really? You didn't win? - No.
What do you mean you didn't win? Where are the other two? - They never came home? - No.
Wait, they really weren't with you guys? - No, we had to split up.
- They never came home.
Where are Dave and Athena? I'm definitely thinking, "oh, crap.
A temptation came.
Did they take it?" Yo, that kind of worries me a little bit.
Where are they? We're tired, we are soaking wet, and then Dave falls asleep on my lap, and I'm just sitting there thinking how this is my life, and I could have $70,000, but instead I'm rubbing Dave's head as he falls asleep on diablo rojo.
And the tablet says Rappel down 180 feet into the ravine.
- Into the river of the cave.
- Right.
I heard a door.
Hey, where have you been? - What happened? - What happened to you guys? - Well, how did it go? - Hi.
Why'd you guys take so long? We had a temptation.
We didn't take it.
You did not! Oh! Everyone's just, like, so congratulatory, and I look over at Marty, and he's just not happy.
I know.
I know this is the crappiest thing for you.
He knows how to be happy for people.
Marty's pouting that he didn't go on a challenge.
Grow up, bro.
I don't know, dude I don't know If I could really talk right now.
- You need some time? - Yeah.
All right.
Athena and Dave They said they turned down an offer, But I think there could be some strategic lying going on.
For real, dog? What the hell are you doing? Are you serious right now? Want me to leave you alone? I thought I was passionate.
This dude is nuts.
Somebody's got to go home.
I'm thinking to myself, "yo, Marty, it's your time, man.
" Thought Marty would be excited for Patty, You know what I mean? Okay, I don't got no words for that.
I don't got no words for that kind of behavior.
If I were to go on the hero's challenge and I was successful, I'm gonna have to decide if someone's going home, and it might be Marty.
Marty is pouting, and he's not behaving in the way that would be appropriate.
Did you have time to calm down? - Yeah, I'm doing all right now.
- Okay.
Losing that money for the red cross hurts, and losing that time for the Hero's challenge hurts, But why can't we work as a team and get to the end? I mean, these are things that make me think is somebody really here for what "the Hero"'s all about? I just get frustrated.
I want to go out there.
- I don't want to sit around.
- Okay, so learn that here.
Learn a little bit of self-control when it comes to talking to this group.
You can't do it by screaming at people.
I know that I have to, like, kind of chill a little bit with that.
I don't want to get knocked out of the competition 'cause I can't get over it.
This hero challenge is the very last one, Which means it's going to be the most epic the hardest.
I'm trying to be positive, thinking it could be done.
It's possible to be done in half the time.
If you get voted into the Hero's challenge and you lose, You're going home.
It's tough being in this kind of situation.
It doesn't just mean who we're sending.
It also means who's going home.
With the time, I'm thinking Charles.
Me, too, I just I think sending her in would be suicide.
I don't know that Patty's gonna win a hero's challenge, But by picking Patty, you know, It's possible that I don't have to sit there And wonder, you know, If I'm the one that's gonna get eliminated.
What are you guys talking about? What'd I walk into? Are you definitely like, are you thinking About keeping the money if you win? That's not my driving factor.
It's the least of my thoughts.
It's weird with Charles.
You never know what he's thinking.
There's a chance that he will take the $80,000 and go home.
I'm not even thinking about the challenge Passing that or not passing it.
I'm just thinking of everything else, Like, you know, why am I here? Charles could lose and get sent home himself, And, I mean, there are six people Who he could send home if he Gets into the last hero's challenge and he wins.
But who knows.
Everything changes all the time, So you never know with this game.
We didn't make the challenge yesterday.
We don't have as much time.
And just knowing the hero's challenges Everything they've done so far they're difficult.
They're made so you can fail them, And I want Patty to stay here as long as she can.
I feel like I have the best chance Between Patty and I to do this.
Heroes, have a seat.
Two of the scariest words in the english language What if? What if I had asked that person out? What if I had told my loved one how I truly felt Before it was too late? I've been there.
What if I just grabbed that opportunity That's right there in front of me what if? And I mean this from my heart Don't ever walk away from this house, From this competition, asking "what if?" That said, let's chat.
Marty, when you weren't selected For the team challenge, It upset you.
Tell me why.
I actually kind of was selected.
Everyone wanted me to go, But I wanted to give Athena a shot.
She felt like she needed to still prove something.
But I'm a competitor, and I want to be out there.
You know, that's why I'm here.
You know, even a stupid game of Rock, paper, scissor, If I take it to heart You always pick Rock, I'm assuming.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
It always wins, too.
Thataboy.
But I don't know I guess It's just something in me, you know, and I kind of have To relax a little bit, I guess.
No.
You? Maybe.
I don't know.
Maybe a little.
Okay.
Athena, you've had to fight tooth and nail To get in the team challenge.
It was tough fighting others That didn't quite want you there.
I think day one when I backed down to shaun Was my first mistake, and that was day one.
And to have to fight you all And to take money to take care of my family And then get beaten down for it, And I learned that I have The most amazing support system back home.
And when you can't tap into it or call When you need it I miss it.
Say word.
D.
, you miss your family? I'm close to breaking.
I really am.
I need my wife.
I need my kids.
These folks is good folks, But nobody's like my family.
I'll be a better man when I go home, I'll tell you that.
Be a better man to my wife, better man to my kids, Better man to my friends for this experience.
D.
, look, I was right there with you When you heard your wife's voice And your knees buckled, And it was real.
So real, man.
So real.
I love the shit out of my family, dog.
And just hearing their voice My kids' voice That moment was real.
It was real, dog.
Dr.
Dave.
Yes, sir.
Heroes, as you know, Live and die on the battlefield.
When the chips were down, You stepped back a couple of times.
How do you think America will view that? I don't think this competition Is about who won the most hero challenges, you know.
I don't think that's what it's about.
I think it's about how you conduct yourself As a person, as a human being, And that you can bring that back to your real life And be a better person.
That's what I think is important.
That's so true.
That's what I mean.
I really mean that.
Sure, sure.
Well said.
Dave, you just summed up what I feel this is all about, What I feel the show's all about just getting better.
Just getting better.
Every single one of you have gotten better.
You should be proud of yourselves.
Tonight is the very last hero's challenge.
Next week, I have something huge planned.
But for tonight, one of you two Patty or Charles will get your shot.
Patty, done great so far.
- Haven't seen you - I know.
You know what I'm gonna say.
I do.
But you're standing over here now.
Not everybody grabs it by the throat.
Some people find their accomplishments In their day-to-day battles that they choose and can and want to overcome.
With your support, I have overcome Every single fear I've ever had in my life.
So if I go in the Hero's challenge and I fail, maybe that's the first time I will have grabbed it by the throat.
But thank you.
You especially.
You made me grab it yesterday.
So thank you.
You grabbed it.
Okay, you helped lead me to the grabbing part.
It's getting dirty.
In a healthy kind of way.
But it's true.
I did grab something yesterday, And I'm proud of that.
Charles, As a very proud police officer, You sacrifice your life everyday.
You put it out on the line.
When does the search for yourself Not trump the needs of your family? I can't answer that right now.
I think that's part of this journey.
What are you searching for? My search is this Is when your families, when your brother, Your daughter, your kids, They need a hero Do you want me there? Because I struggle with that, And I strive for that every day, But I'm filled with fear.
I want to be fearless.
When I feel spite in my heart, I want to find compassion.
And, to answer your question When I care for my family more than anything, I want to be able to put your family first Public's family first.
And I hate to say that to my family Because my family means more than anything to me.
That's what I'm searching for.
I'd call you, brother.
- I'd call.
- I would.
- I'd call.
- Any day.
911 that's my number.
But thank you.
Thank you to all of you.
That said, let's vote.
Tonight is the very last hero's challenge.
Let's vote.
All right, big moment of truth.
This week's hero is You deserve it.
Charles, your moment has arrived finally.
Tonight, meet me at the national soccer stadium.
Thank you.
Seriously.
It is what it is now.
You don't know.
He's a definite guy that thinks very deeply.
I am easily on his radar.
I just don't know who it is he wants to go.
If Charles comes home tonight, I can't tell you who Charles is gonna send home.
Part of me thinks Charles may pick me.
Part of me thinks Charles is gonna pick Darnell, Because Darnell will walk out of here with some money.
Charles may go and say Marty.
I'm not sure.
Do you guys think he's gonna smoke this challenge? Yes.
I think so.
The only reason that he wouldn't come back, to me, is he took the money.
I honestly don't know If I'm gonna be eliminated Because I am a threat.
I don't know what the hell's going on in Charles' brain.
As long as you have this and you have this.
It's heart and your mentality.
It's heart.
100%.
That's what it is.
It's not giving up.
The stadium is huge.
The lights are on.
There's nobody in the stadium, just the Rock.
And I'm just like, "I'm not getting eliminated.
" This is it, man.
This is it.
Your moment has arrived.
I've been waiting for this.
I know you've been waiting for it.
It's gonna test you here.
More importantly, it's gonna test you here.
This is gonna be a bitch.
Okay.
But you can do it.
You can do it.
All right, Charles.
You see these flares? They represent your future.
There's eight of them.
Beside ever flare is a tablet With a question about this competition.
Beside each tablet, chained and locked, is a bag With $10,000.
Okay.
You sprint up there, you answer the question right, You sprint back down, drop that bag off here to me, And move on to the next.
Each time you get one wrong, You'll be penalized 30 seconds.
There's $80,000 out there waiting for you, Charles.
You got 35 minutes.
Since we failed the team challenge, I have 35 minutes to do this instead of double that, And I know I'm gonna need Every single one of those minutes.
Before we start, I got something else for you.
Turn around.
Hey! I miss you so much.
I love you.
I look up at the jumbotron, and I see my wife, And immediately I'm just overrun with emotions.
I'm gonna be home soon.
We're gonna sit down and do absolutely nothing.
It's gonna be awesome.
I don't care about anything.
I just want you to be safe Andsniffles .]
I'm so proud of you.
I'm just so happy to be your wife.
I'm sorry for not being the best husband sometimes.
But you are my hero.
My wife is my hero Because she's everything I strive to be.
She's strong.
She's just such a good, pure person.
I just don't know how a person can be so good.
You are my best friend just everything.
I love you, And you'll always be my hero.
Forever and ever.
That's my girl.
Let's do this.
- Ready? - I'm ready.
Let's do this.
I see my wife, and it just recharges me Why I'm here, why I'm away from her for all these weeks.
I'm not gonna let her down.
I'm gonna do this.
I'm just fired up.
I want to go.
Charles, you've been searching a long time, man.
Now it's time to find out who you are.
Find your mana, find your spirit.
Bring it.
Come on.
Get it.
Go.
Dude, I didn't realize how big a soccer field was.
It's pretty big.
I feel the burn within the fist set of stairs.
Come on, Charles.
This is your moment.
It's your moment.
This is that opportunity.
Push yourself.
Shaun.
0-2-1-7.
Code comes out, I get the lock, And it's, you know, a small-sized bag.
I'm like, "I can do this.
I can definitely do this.
" Attaboy.
One down.
There you go.
Just drop it right here.
There you go.
Get it.
Get it.
Come on, Charles.
The field was getting bigger, and the seats were getting higher and higher, but no turning back, I got to go.
Five challenges.
We failed two.
$10,000, $20,000, $45,000.
$45,000.
Damn it.
Felt like grabbing that tablet and throwing it across the soccer field.
It just felt like it was mocking me for being an idiot.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Ah! Come on.
Two failed.
$10,000, $15,000 $15,000, $40,000.
Fudge! He's burning time.
Way too much time.
He's got to get it right.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Come on! Losing a minute and a half, it started putting the pressure on.
4-1-4.
- Shit.
Burned a lot of time.
- Sorry, red cross.
You know, by default, I got the answer right, But I can't afford to lose 30 seconds here, 30 seconds there.
Push yourself! At this point, I'm legitimately tired, And I'm thinking, "I'm not gonna finish this.
I'm gonna get eliminated.
" Come on, Charles! This is your moment! This is that opportunity! I know you're in pain! Push through it! Especially up those stairs! Come on! Calgary Stampeders.
I got it.
I have to be perfect from here on out.
I can't miss any more questions.
I can't afford to lose 30 seconds here, 30 seconds there.
What airport was Dave at when he took down terrorists? LAX.
Need you to dig deep! 15 pisos.
15 pisos.
There's a hero in all of us.
You just got to find it, and Charles is finding it.
I'm proud of him right now.
I'm proud of this effort.
Win or lose, so proud of him.
There you go, Charles! Focus! Fight through that pain! You've only got three questions left, buddy! Let's go! 1-9-2-0.
The bags are getting heavier, for sure.
I'm giving everything to just stay in there.
Don't even think about it.
Just go.
Got to think how hard is it to think during this time Physical stress, mental stress.
Especially for a man like Charles, Who's been looking for himself for a long time.
Focus! Focus! Fight through that pain! Easy.
Madeline, connor, and alex.
You got one left.
This is it.
Think about it.
Think about it.
When the stakes are this high, you do whatever it takes.
He's doing whatever it takes.
He has no quit in him.
None.
Wrench.
Come on! You can do it! I know that bag is heavy as a [bleep.]
I remember the Rock saying something about not feeling pain.
I just thought if this was a critical situation at work And I had to help somebody and I couldn't give up.
That's a smart move Throwing the money over the railing.
I turn the corner.
It was right there.
I'm like, "yes.
I'm finished.
I can finish this.
" You're running out of time! All the way.
All the way.
Charles, you had 35 minutes To do damn near the impossible.
Length to length, Upper seats to upper seats.
You just won $80,000.
I'm proud of you.
- Proud of you.
- Thanks.
Thank you.
It's $80,000.
Now, I want you to keep in mind, this $80,000 is 100% guaranteed.
Right.
So you could keep it and go home to your wife, or you could put it back into the global prize pot, and you got a shot at becoming America's hero.
Well, more than anyone, who deserves that money is my wife.
She never wants anything.
She didn't even want a wedding ring.
She's just that kind of a woman.
Could use the money.
In fact, during the recession, we gave our life savings to her family, 'cause they had a hard time.
But It's going into the global pot.
I respect that, Charles.
Okay, you know what that means.
You're gonna have to send somebody home.
Who's it gonna be?
