The Voice UK (2012) s06e04 Episode Script

Blind Auditions 4

1 Previously on The Voice I wanna see the talent, I wanna see the passion, and then I wanna see the determination.
It makes it more human when somebody sings like that, like you do.
You are the reason I agreed to do this show.
Wow.
Oh! I would love you to be on my team.
This is the halfway mark.
You never know what's gonna happen.
There's gonna be millions of people watching this and I really don't wanna muck up.
There's a lot of singers left, so I need that spark.
This is The Voice I just love the idea that it's a blind audition - they just get to hear the voice, and hopefully the voice is good enough for them to turn.
How do you feel that they are not gonna be able to see you? They'll pick people they think are good singers and not just for how they look.
I feel like I need to change my song choice to Turn around Is anybody ever tempted to peek? I peeked once.
You can't peek, though! That's not how it goes.
I'm not ever tempted to peek, cos I wanna hear the voice, that's all I care about.
How about you, Tom? Are you a peeping Tom? Why does Tom always get the blame? Doubting Thomas, peeping Tom - Tom's always getting the blame.
Let's go, guys.
How many singers have you got in your team? Four.
Me, too.
You've got five, right? Yeah.
You've got four? I've got five, Tom.
It's so much better when you've got ten spaces.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Of course.
At the beginning, it's like bang, bang.
Do it, Will.
You ready? I was born ready.
So, are you gonna do your warm-ups - I'll do a proper warm-up before I go on.
Not like the stupid ones you do at home? What do you mean 'the stupid ones I do at home'? I'm Jack Bruley, I'm 20 and I'm a teaching assistant.
That came out - blah, blah, blah.
Sorry.
I struggle to say my name.
Bru-ley.
Jack Bruley.
The amount of times I've been mistaken for a woman is a joke now.
In supermarkets, if I'm in someone's way, they'll be like, "Excuse me, love," then they'll see me and apologise.
I had one person and they went, "Excuse me, love," and I turned around and he still thought I was a woman.
I live in Essex, Basildon, and I love living with my family.
Thanks, Mum.
Cheers, Mum.
Enjoy.
He's a really nice brother.
I get along with him quite well.
Your hair's getting long - it looks like Mum's now.
Sometimes we have arguments, but mainly we're just really close.
Right, guys, we're gonna perform it now, OK? All right, let's go.
I work as a teaching assistant.
I teach music and drama.
Hold the back the river, hold back I look forward to going to work.
I don't feel like I'm working.
When I go to bed, I just hear him playing the guitar.
Once Mum tells him to stop, I'm like, "No!" Cos it's just really nice to hear him sing.
Singing is definitely one of the most important things.
It's a way of showing your emotions.
It's when I am just completely me.
I'm just so proud of him.
I love him to bits.
I am feeling nervous, but I think when I get on the stage, I think that's when it'll hit me big time.
I didn't peek.
I was pretending to peek.
There's gonna be millions of people watching this and I really don't wanna muck up.
# I looked for love in all the same old places # I found the bottom of the bottle's always dry # But when you poured out your heart # I didn't waste it # Cos there's nothing # Like your love # To get me high # Oh, you're as smooth # As Tennessee whiskey # You're as sweet # As strawberry wine # And you're as warm # As a glass of brandy # And I stay stoned on your love # All the time # Oh, you're as smooth # Oh, as Tennessee whiskey # As Tennessee whiskey As Tennessee whiskey Press it! Hey! What's your name? My name's Jack.
I did not think I was gonna get a turn.
That is crazy.
Where are you from, Jack? I'm from Essex.
Whoo, Essex! Whoo-hoo! How old are you? I'm 20.
You be gigging in Essex? Yeah, I do a lot of open mics and I go to gigs with my friends and stuff and get up and sing.
But mainly in my bedroom, really.
You hear that, girls? He's got gigs in the bedroom! You selling tickets? I mean, not that I wanna go! With that being said, I pass it over to Jennifer Hudson.
You got me.
I was like, "There's something that about" .
.
that was speaking to me, and I feel that soul and I was like, "Whoever that is, they're young," because it's still fresh and you're still connecting to that song, but it is there and I felt it and I just love your voice - Thank you.
.
.
and I feel like I could help you get to it a little bit closer.
So, you know, hopefully we can get soulful together, baby.
Let's see! I'm glad Jennifer turned, because you've got so much going for you, you're so young and the voice, it's a beautiful voice.
I'm glad you're in the competition, cos you deserve to be.
Thank you.
I thought your voice was very good.
I don't think the song did you justice, because it didn't go far.
I was waiting for something to show off your range a bit more.
For me, anyway.
Can I interrupt you there, Tom? Sure.
I think what he needs is a better grip on it.
He's gonna start believing those words and I bet you next time you're gonna be like, "Now, hold on! I need him on MY team!" Can I interrupt you for a second? What you got? You got a girlfriend? I haven't, no.
OK.
Have you had a girlfriend? I've had one.
Aw! And you broke up with her, she broke up with you? No, she broke up with me.
Aw! Go back to that place.
Go back.
Now sing it with a bit more grit and pain when you sing it.
Don't think about being in key, just think about being in the emotion.
# I look for love in all the same old places There you go! Shake your head! Give me a little more! # I found the bottom of the bottle's always dry, yeah You're letting your soul out! # But when you poured out your heart I didn't waste it Walk around.
Think about it! Think about it! There you go! That line right there - she broke your heart.
Now you're on national TV, now you talk to her now! Say that like you mean it! Tell that story! And walk around! Make them wonder, "Where the hell he going?" I look for love To be fair, she was actually quite a nice girl.
Seriously.
I was really immature at the time.
She went out with someone older than me and more grown up.
She left you for an older person? When you say 'older' person, how old are you talking? Tom was like, "What's her number?" More mature, Tom.
More mature.
Cos I know what old is! There's a difference between singing nice and singing nice, cool songs.
You need to come from a place where you relate to it.
Right.
Even if you're never been through it, you've gotta imagine it.
If there's anybody that'll teach you how to connect, it's this lady.
Welcome to Team JHud.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much for turning.
Keep working on that song, babe.
I can't believe I got through.
I swear to God, I didn't think I'd get through.
Everyone's coming for a hug.
Let's do a massive group hug, eh? I couldn't let him pass.
I couldn't.
I was like, "I love his voice.
" I can't believe she actually turned around for me.
I thought I was a goner at the end.
Truthfully, I thought I was gone! He's got a lot of potential, that kid.
He does.
The talent is strong.
It is.
The talent is strong.
Stand by, everybody, our next singer is ready.
All I've been looking for is people that sound like themselves.
They've gotta bring it.
Here's your time, here's your moment - hit it.
Right, we're here now, Ryan.
How are you feeling? Yeah, I'm looking forward to it now.
My name is Ryan James, I'm 26 and I'm a business systems consultant for a global financial technology company.
That's a tongue-twister, innit? My job's high pressure, it's 24/7.
Music is definitely an escape.
It's more important than work, but at the moment it doesn't pay the bills.
I live in Essex with my family - my mum, dad and sister.
This is your chance.
You've really gotta go and do it.
We're so proud of you, aren't we? Yeah.
I think you've got a tremendous voice.
I get quite emotional.
I'm really proud of you.
Yeah, just give a minute on that one.
I definitely wanna make my family proud.
The Voice could change my life, because if I was to win that record deal, I could quit work and do what I've always wanted to do.
It's a little bit daunting, I'm not gonna lie.
I just need to make sure that I take this opportunity with both hands and go out there and deliver a great performance.
# Ooh, ooh, I bet you're wondering how I knew # About your plans to make me blue # With some other guy you knew before # Between the two of us guys # You know I love you more # Took me by surprise, I must say # When I found out yesterday # Don't you know that I heard it through the grapevine # Oh, I'm just about to lose my mind Honey, honey, yeah # Very superstitious # Writing's on the wall Come on! Good! # Very superstitious # Ladder's about to fall # 13-month-old baby # Broke the looking glass # Seven years of bad luck Come on! # Good things in your past Come on, Jamie! # When you believe in things # That you don't understand # Then you suffer-er-er-er # Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa Superstition ain't the way Come on! Oh, no! I'm gutted, Emma.
I bet you are.
Oh, yeah, it's really disappointing, when you put everything out there and give it your best.
But that's what I give, I give my best, and if that's not good enough on the day, then nothing I can do.
It's very disappointing.
You've done so well.
You were so close.
You've done so well.
I'm sure in there is a great singer, but maybe he's not there yet.
He could come back and smash it next year.
Yeah.
Well done.
When no-one turns, you're a little lost.
Do I walk away? Do I wait? And then them kind of ten seconds feels like a lifetime, really.
But then it just wasn't to be today, so I've just gotta try again.
We're tough today, guys.
Yeah.
We're not just giving our spaces up to anyone.
Ain't that the truth! It's tough-competition.
com.
It is.
Good luck.
Thank you.
We're singing every note with you.
We'll see you on the other side.
Yeah! My name's Hadley Ford, I'm 38 and I'm a primary school teacher.
Good morning, 3F.
Good morning, Mr Ford.
3F are big music fans - they love any excuse to sing in the classroom and I try and get as much music in there as I can.
Finish the pattern I like to take songs that are in the charts, change the words so they're about the learning we're doing.
This is about our multiplication facts.
They don't realise they're doing maths a lot of the time.
You can stealthily teach kids through music.
You're doing a good job! That's the really rewarding part.
The other part of my life is my family.
Let's do it.
There you go.
We've recently had a daughter, my wife and I, and that's just a life-changing experience.
From the moment your child's born, your life is for them, so everything I do is for her.
Who are you hoping's gonna turn round? Obviously all of them.
Yeah.
I'd really If I could choose, I think I probably would go Gavin.
When I was growing up and getting into music, it was around the time of Bush.
I feel naturally drawn to him.
If I were to win The Voice, I think it would change my family life.
I do love my job, but if I had the opportunity to do music full-time, I would grab it with both hands, cos that's where my heart's at.
Ready for it, but nervous.
I've got my mum, my nan and my wife out there - don't wanna let them down.
Gotta do the best I can.
There's a lot riding on this performance and I hope my daughter can look back on this audition and be proud of me.
He's in the zone.
Yes.
# This year's love had better last # Heaven knows it's high time # I've been waiting on my own # Too long # When you hold me like you do # It feels so right # Oh, now # I start to forget how my heart gets torn # When that hurt gets thrown # Feeling like you can't go on # So won't you kiss me on that midnight street # And sweep me off my feet? # Singing, "Ain't this life so sweet?" # This year's love had better last This year's love had better last Oh, wow! What's your name? My name's Hadley.
I'm a primary school teacher.
Nice to meet you, Hadley.
Nice to meet you all.
I can't believe you turned - I'm such a massive fan.
I've gotta tell you, I just believed you right from the get-go.
You've got a truth in your voice that is all I listen for.
I'm glad I'm the only person that turned, cos you're on my team.
Whoo! Gavin Rossdale! Come here! I loved him right away.
Yeah.
I'm like, "My bar's there, baby!" Uh-hu.
When Gavin turned, I was like, "I've gotta keep it together now!" But you had the biggest smile on your face when you saw him turn.
Oh, yeah.
People say, "Well, if you got the turn, who would you ideally like?" It's been Gavin the whole time.
Can I keep your nan? No, she's mine.
She's mine! I really like her.
What a voice, though, right? Right? Yeah.
You see? He's really something.
Yeah.
You've got him and he's on the show, that's the main thing.
Yeah.
I've got a good idea - maybe you should download The Voice app.
Here's a game you should play - play the I Want You coach game.
Watch the latest performances from the show and become The Voice super fan.
Unwrap this app now! You've been in this all your life, then? When I was 16, I worked at Burger King.
I used to sing in the drive-through to the customers.
How long have you been singing for? I'm a tribute artist.
I do soundalikes of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner.
The manager at Burger King so happened to be a club promoter and he heard my voice, so he started to hire me to sing at his club events.
From that moment on, I've been making my living - The Burger King was a step? Yeah.
I'll tell you when you need to walk.
You will? No surprises, then.
Yeah.
Are you ready? Yeah.
Let's do it.
I just wanna get on the stage.
Yeah, I've got a fire in my belly, definitely.
I'm Liza, I'm 44 and I do tribute shows.
I got into doing tribute work roughly ten years or so ago.
I mimic Shirley Bassey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Tina Turner now.
I just do working men's clubs, cabaret halls, birthdays, weddings, even funerals.
I know it sounds depressing, but it can be fun.
It can be hard work, as well.
My friends would say I'm a bit nuts at times, but in a good way.
I'm actually from Pontypridd, which is known for a very famous singer by the name of Tom Jones.
My mum was actually working in the railway station - Tom Jones popped in and asked if there was a job going and she said, "There's nothing going at the moment.
" He said, "That's OK, I'm going to make it big, so I want something to tide me over.
" I would like to step away from my tribute soundalikes.
This is my time now.
You know, this is me doing myself, not me doing Celine, Whitney, Shirley or Tina.
This is me doing Liza.
It's a female.
Not necessarily.
# I hear the ticking of the clock # I'm lying here, the room's pitch dark # I wonder where you are tonight # No answer on the telephone # And the night goes by so very slow # Oh, I hope that it won't end though # Alone # Oh, ho-oh-oh, yeah # Till now, I always got by on my own # I never really cared until I met you # And now it chills me to the bone # How do I get you alone? Come on! # How do I get you alone? # Alone Alone Jennifer, please! You've got me alone, babe.
You've got me alone.
Yes, you do.
That I don't What part was that where she hit that note? Where everybody Did it hit you, too? What's your name? My name is Liza.
Liza? With a Z, like Zorro.
Where are you from? Pontypridd.
No! Yes! What kind of gigs do you do? Where do you play? I am a tribute artist.
I do tribute shows as soundalikes.
That was me doing me.
Who do you Whitney Houston.
Oof! Shirley Bassey.
Oof! Tina Turner.
Oof! I also do a 'many voices' evening of Dolly Parton, Cher Oof, oof! But the voice you used then was your own voice.
My voice doing me.
When you do other people, who is your favourite to do? Whitney Houston.
Can you give us a little bit of Whitney? Just a little bit of Whitney.
OK.
Thank you.
Are you ready? Yeah! # And I-I-I # Will always love you-ou-ou # And I # Will always lo-o-o-ove You-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou, ye-e-e-eah Thank you.
You have a very strong voice.
I'm loud is what you're trying to say.
No, but you - My other half says, "You're loud!" You have a big range and I like that.
Tom, I have admired you all my life.
Thank you very much.
I have.
Thank you.
Absolute truth.
Well, I admire you, because you do sound different, which is always good.
Thank you.
I think I've been really wanting all my life to sound like myself.
Yeah.
Because there's some great voices, I love to do them, but isn't it something, you wanna be who you are, you don't wanna be somebody else, you wanna be you, don't you? Exactly.
I've gotta say your voice is unbelievable and when you switched right out of nowhere and you just went nuts and everyone went crazy and the whole room felt it, it was unbelievable.
Thank you.
I've been trying to think about this, "It's just another day.
" But it's so not just another day.
My head's doing overtime, my heart's going, my legs are like this.
When you hit that note, my eyebrows fell off my head.
My eyebrows went like Wow! Thank you so much for turning around.
I just love how effortless it was, cos you almost didn't see it coming.
Normally, you hear people bracing themselves for those notes and once they took off, they're still soaring.
But I liked the way you just attacked the song and I could hear your voice.
I love when a voice just soars and flies.
I completely connected to that.
So, welcome to Team JHud.
I was thinking, "Am I gonna make it down there without breaking anything?" Jennifer, thank you so much.
You're welcome.
Oof! Thank you so much.
Thank you, everybody.
Thank you.
That was unbelievable.
Those notes were so pure.
Right? It was pure! She's strong.
I mean, she's She's strong! The whole of Wales is gonna be so proud of you.
I think you're gonna have a lot of fun there.
Ooh, yes! Am I the next one? Yes, you are.
OK.
When you get nervous, what do you do? If you're not nervous, that's a bad sign, so it's good to have nerves.
I put it in the song.
I find a way to interpret it through the music.
If you've just sang at your house and for your family, then you come out and do this, you've gotta step it up.
I'm Jon, I'm 19 and I live in Great Yarmouth.
I feel like I'm definitely shy when I talk to people, but busking helped me build my confidence.
Most of the time, it's just me and my guitar.
Some people love it, some people walk past and don't turn an eye.
But once I'm playing my guitar and singing, I show people, like who I am, I guess.
I hope so! I'm currently in a relationship with a lovely girl called Megan.
Having her there really helps me with my confidence, helps me push myself.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If Jon got a turn from a coach today, he would feel so happy, it would just be amazing.
I just want people to love his voice like I do.
You can't describe the feeling you have, being this nervous before this big of a deal.
On you go.
Enjoy.
A year ago, I was singing in front of nobody, and to now be about to sing in front of four superstars is pretty crazy.
Here he comes.
Bless him.
# My life is brilliant # My love is pure # I saw an angel # Of that I'm sure # She smiled at me on the subway # She was with another man # But I won't lose no sleep on that, cos I've got a plan # You're beautiful # You're beautiful # And I don't know what to do # I will never be with you # Oh-oh # She caught my eye # As she walked on by # She could see from my face that I was flying high # I don't think that I'll see her again # We shared a moment that will last till the end # You're beautiful # You're beautiful # You're beautiful # It's true-ue, ooh-ooh-ooh # I saw your face # In a crowded place # And I don't know what to do I will never be with you Bless him.
Thanks, guys.
I like him! I like him a lot.
That's awful.
I feel like I was very, very nervous, which affected the performance, but I'm happy I did it.
I think that was the best performance Jon's done and I was proud watching him on stage.
Thank you.
That was really good.
Thank you.
His voice was great.
Sort of sweet and vulnerable and It was beautiful.
Could be nerves, you know.
Could be.
I never thought I'd be able to do anything like this and now I have, I do feel proud of myself and I'm happy I got this far.
I get nervous in front of, like, speaking in front of five people, but when it's a big crowd, I try to remove myself from what I'm doing and think about a problem I have to solve back at home.
If I'm like, "Oh, my gosh, I'm on TV right now," then I'm gonna get nervous.
How exciting is this? It is.
I do feel overwhelmed.
It's just happened so fast, so now it's all here, but not quite.
I don't know.
It sounds cliche to say it doesn't feel real, but it doesn't feel real.
I'm Clara Hurtado, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Brighton.
I haven't done a lot of gigs and the ones I have done are quite small, so I think performing on The Voice will be ridiculously scary.
I'm originally from the south of Spain.
About five years ago, we decided to move here to Britain.
Music's always been a part of my life growing up.
My parents met through being in the same band together.
My mum was a singer and my dad was the drummer.
# Let's get it started # Let's get it started in here Me and my dad used to listen to Black Eyed Peas albums.
I think that's the earliest memory I have of grooving with my dad.
# Ooh-hoo, uh-hu # Ooh-hoo, in here Ooh-hoo Yeah! I'm sure my dad wishes he was in the Black Eyed Peas.
Her way of singing is very special for me, because it's It comes from the heart and it always makes me feel very proud.
It's like, everybody can see my face, "That's my daughter.
" To know that today could be the start of me getting a successful career, a record contract .
.
it's .
.
overwhelming.
It's really overwhelming.
Yeah, I'm so nervous, because I want it so much.
I'm so anxious to get this.
I n I n I need this.
# You lift my heart up # When the rest of me is down # You, you enchant me # Even when you're not around # I-I-I-I-I-I-I # I think we're close enough # I wanna lock in your love, baby # I think we're close enough # Could I # Could I lock in your love, baby? # Baby, now # Now I've got you in my space # I won't let go of you # I-I-I-I # Got you shackled in my embrace # I'm latching on to you # You, you, you # Got you shackled in my embrace Come on! I'm latching on to you Aw! Thank you so much.
Como te llamas? Me llamo Clara Hurtado.
Donde eres? I live in Brighton.
Sorry, guys.
I'm sorry.
What's your name? So, my name is Clara Hurtado.
And how old are you? I'm 20 years old.
Oh, that's great.
You sounded really amazing on that.
Thank you so much.
It means the world.
I was hoping for one turn, and suddenly, I was finishing the song and I'm like, "All right, let's just say thank you to the crowd.
Walk back.
Let's just enjoy it.
" Suddenly, I look up and everyone's turned.
I was the first.
Can I say this - when you started off, to me, you were flat.
Did you think you were out of tune at the beginning? I think nerves are just such a powerful thing.
Yes.
I ended up being nervous of being nervous.
But you got rid of that.
You know, you got in tune.
The last half of the song, to me, was tremendous.
Thank you.
That's why I pushed.
It's really easy to not have the best start and then continue to fall and fall down the hill, and you just stood right back up - You got stronger.
.
.
and you got stronger and you did great.
Whoever you go with, you should be proud.
We're all here for you! I would like you to join my team, cos I think I can work with you and, you know, find the kind of music that you wanna make.
Thank you.
It just sounds to me like you really wanna sing and I wanna hear you sing.
I just wanna help you find those songs that highlight the voice that I just heard.
Thank you.
The second half of that song, you really got into it and you became something that you were not starting off.
That's what I feel.
OK.
But I would love you to come on my team, because I think you're a beautiful singer and we could work great together.
I think you're amazing - Thank you so much.
.
.
so I'd love to have you on my team.
I think you've got so much potential and there's so many ways you can go that the world is your oyster.
You have an incredible voice.
Buenos verte.
Gracias.
I think it wasn't until this year that I started to realise that I kinda wanna go into something with producers and DJs or rappers or something and I've developed a little love for, like So um I wanna honestly thank you all, because I did not expect this.
And, yeah, you're a legend.
Everyone's I think, from what I've heard right now, as well, I think I'm gonna go with .
.
Will.
You better treat her right! How was it? It was the most scariest thing I've ever done in my life.
Will, she wants to work with rappers and hip-hop, so I'm like, "Hmm, where's she gonna go?" Tom Jones! No, you! And the Spanish! She was so big on the stage.
I'm so proud of you.
It's competition time and here's your chance to win an awesome prize worth over ã80,000.
First up, there's a huge ã50,000 tax-free cash for you to splash on anything you like.

So, for your chance to win this amazing prize, just - Good luck.
Stay calm, stay focused.
You know what you wanna get at the end of it.
I'm just gonna go out there and smash it.
You may make parts for a car in a factory, but there's always bigger opportunities if you put your mind and your thoughts to it.
We've all been through it.
It means some of them are born to do this and shine.
As long as they own it and commit to it.
We should feel the thirst and the hunger and the drive, right? This could possibly be me making a big difference for my life.
I'm Ryan Thomas, I'm 28 years old and I'm from Birmingham.
I work in a factory making car parts.
Rotation shift of two weeks days and two weeks nights.
On a day-to-day, the amount of doors we go through is at least 400.
It's just robotic.
The thing that keeps me motivated is when I get paid - it's helping me fund my music career and put food on the table for the family.
I'm blessed to have three amazing children.
I had my first child quite young - I was 16 at the time.
I believe that made me more mature, because I knew I had responsibilities.
My way of channelling my energy was by doing my music, which I thought would help me provide for my children.
But you have to start reconsidering - is it gonna pay the bills? Is it gonna provide for the family? Are you gonna get anywhere? When it's time to get on the stage, the nerves will probably kick in.
I'm gonna be in the back, screaming, "Yeah!" The feeling to be here today, it's incredible.
It's the moment I've been waiting for for a long time.
My heart is pounding.
That's good.
That's really good.
Adrenaline.
My kids, this is for them.
I'm just gonna do all I can for them, make them proud and they'll be rooting, "Daddy, come on! You're doing it!" # I see the questions in your eyes # I know what's weighing on your mind # You can be sure I know my part # Cos I # Stand beside you through the years # You only cry those happy tears # And though I've made mistakes # I'll never break your heart # I swear # By the moon and the stars in the sky # I'll be there # I swear # Like a shadow that's by your side # I'll be there # For better or worse # Till death do us part # I'll love you with every beat of my heart # And I swea-a-a-ar # I swea-a-a-a-ar Come on! # I-I-I-I-I Tom! Swear Oh! Jeez! What's your name, babe? My name's Ryan Thomas, I'm 28 years old and I work in a factory making car parts.
Oh, my God! I don't know what to say.
It just felt a little rocky for me.
But I'm still a fan.
Thank you.
Well, I loved it, because you sounded great from the beginning, as far I'm concerned, and I wanted to hear you go all the way through the song, just to hear if you would slip up anywhere.
And you didn't.
That's why I hit the button - I thought, "I can't let this person leave," because you're too good to leave.
Thank you very much.
I love the way you sing, I love your phrasing and I know other singers have done things similar, but there is still something in you that is different, there is something that has a fresh spark to it and I like that.
I'm glad that you're gonna be on my team.
Thank you very much.
I didn't Oh, sorry, Will.
I didn't turn around Sorry.
No, it's all good.
My gut was telling me, "I know you with Tom, we're in trouble, cos what Tom's gonna do with Ryan Thomas What Tom's gonna do with Thomas, Ryan Thomas .
.
we've really gotta get to work.
" I'm glad you made it.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
I believe you.
We're gonna have a great time.
Thank you.
I'm feeling amazing at the moment, if I'm honest.
I couldn't fault him, and he has a lovely tone.
He has a great tone.
A really warm, sweet tone.
Mm-hm.
It's It's something I've wanted all my life, to know I've been recognised, someone can acknowledge I have that skill and talent.
I'm jealous you got him now! I do feel that way.
Jeez! Come on, come on, gimme something.
OK, stand-by, guys.
My name's Chantelle Jackson, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Manchester.
I work as a senior receptionist in a corporate company.
Good afternoon, how can I help? My day-to-day duties are conferencing, answering telephones, working with clients.
It is so good working there! I really, really enjoy my job.
I am the youngest of five girls.
Definitely my sisters that got me into the music.
I'd go with Jennifer.
Yeah.
We taught her everything she knows, so she's not getting all the credit! She's wanted it for so long and it is Chantelle's dream.
Yeah.
If I'm honest, it's probably our dream for her, as well.
Family hug.
Come on, Chantelle! Whoo! I would be very, very happy to be able to see the look on their face to see that I've done so well for myself.
Just being able to help the rest of the family, that's the main thing for me at this moment in time - family.
It's all overwhelming.
This whole experience is really, really overwhelming, so I'm ready to just get on the stage and make this 90 seconds count.
This opportunity is life-changing.
The record contract is literally just dangling.
It's like this.
She looks confident.
This is my time, my moment to be the person I'm meant to be.
# I often tell myself that we could be more than just friends # I know you think that if we move too soon it would all end # I live in misery when you're not around # And I won't be satisfied till we've taken those vows # There'll be some love-making, heart-breaking, soul-shaking # Whoa-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, ooh # Love-making, heart-breaking, soul-shaking # What's it's gonna be? # Cos I can't pretend # Don't you wanna be more than friends? # Hold me tight and don't let go # Don't let go # Have the right to lose control # Don't let go # We can make it if we try # For the sake of you and I # Together, we can make it right # What's it gonna be? # Cos I can't pretend # Don't you wanna be more than friends? # Hold me tight and don't let go # Don't let go Yes! # Have the right to lose control Don't let go What?! I thought she was gonna go! I'm really happy with that.
They obviously didn't like it, but I'm .
.
I'm happy with it.
That's just rough.
It was just so close.
So close.
We were like this.
Yes.
I don't know how to get closer without pushing it.
She was close.
You was absolutely amazing! You were so good! You were so good.
That was a tough one.
I was close.
Oh, my God.
Come on, somebody.
How many have you got? Seven now? I have seven.
How many have you got? Five.
What you got, Gavin? Six.
You have five, Tom.
Have I got five? Five.
Jesus.
It's tough.
It's getting tougher all the time.
It's so tough.
Don't worry, there's only 670 singers to go.
My name is Tanya Lacey, I'm 31, from Bristol.
Babe, you are gonna smash it! Thank you! I guess my singing career started when I dropped out of college and I joined a band for three years.
I learnt how to write, I learnt how to perform.
I co-wrote a song called The Hardest Ever for will.
i.
am.
# This beat is so hard # I'mma go hard, hard to the core He jumped on it and he turned it into a monster of a track.
To have that experience was amazing.
Yeah.
Go hard, or you can go home It just kind of happened out of the blue and I had a bit of momentum happening and a bit of a buzz and then .
.
it kinda just hit a place where it was just Things weren't really happening.
The money dried up! The money dried up and I was .
.
unable to write, I was unable to function, I just wasn't in the room.
Then I just spiralled.
I just had this overwhelming feeling I wasn't good enough, I didn't look good enough, I didn't sound good enough, I didn't write good enough.
And it was time for me to take a step back, refocus and figure out what I wanted to do.
Recently, I've been teaching youth workshops for young people who are passionate about music and I love it.
It's something I'm really passionate about.
It feels great to feel creative again.
I still love music and I still wanna sing and perform.
That's why I'm here today.
We'll be right behind you.
Thank you, baby.
Good luck.
Thank you.
I feel like I'm ready to just give it another shot.
It's intense right now, but I just wanna get on there.
I just wanna get on there and do my best.
It's gonna be so weird singing in front of will.
i.
am.
This is the first time, potentially, that we might meet each other, and we've already got history, so Imagine if he doesn't turn for me! Good luck.
Good luck.
# Mm, mm-mm # I used to cry myself to sleep at night # But that was all # Before he came # I thought love had to hurt # To turn out right # But now he's here # It's not the same It's not the same.
# It's not the sa-a-a-ame She can sing.
# He fills me up Oh, my God! # He gives me love # More love than I've ever seen # He's all I've got # He's all I've got in this world # But he's all the man, yeah # He fills me up # He gives me love, yeah # More love, more love # Than I've ever seen # He's all I've got # He's all I've got in this world # But he's all the man That I ne-e-e-ed Thank you.

You're the man, Tom.
The beginning of a sermon.
Er, yes.
So, we are gathered here today .
.
to honour this young lady.
So And so we should! What's your name, love? My name is Tanya Lacey.
And where are you from? I'm from Bristol.
Bristol? Yeah.
How old are you? I'm 31.
31? Really? Yeah.
You look - You look like you're 22! Thank you! 31 is young.
31 is young.
But you look younger than that.
Thank you.
So, how long have you been singing? Professionally for about nine to ten years.
So you've been doing a lot of gigs and stuff? Yeah, singing and song-writing for other artists.
Really? That's awesome! You have a wonderful way with you.
Thank you.
The way you sing Thank you very much.
.
.
is really, really something.
I would love you to have you on my team.
I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again, if it's experience you're looking for, it's right here.
If you wanna sing for a long time, which you do, you wanna make it your life, I can help you there.
I can get as much out of you as anybody else can, maybe even more.
OK.
Sorry about that.
Tanya.
Yes.
Your voice is so beautiful and I had to turn around, cos I need someone like you.
Sitting and listening to you, there was moments in that song, when it began, when I was less affected, and there were moments in the song, as it got through, when you connected with me.
That's what made me turn.
As a song writer, as well, I understand you.
The first thing I would tell you is you're being crazy to put yourself in the background.
Don't write for anyone else, write for yourself.
It'd be an honour to have you on my team.
I'll take good care of you.
I'll make sure you eat well, I'll make sure you drink well, I'll make sure you laugh, and I'll make sure we really explore what makes you happy and inspired to sing.
Thank you.
Hey, Will.
Can I ask a question? Yeah, sure.
So, you're a singer/song writer.
Yes.
So I actually Funny story.
I co-wrote a song that One of your songs.
Huh? "I went hard, I didn't go home.

Nice to meet you! Wow, that's I should have turned around! I'm a bonehead for not turning! You should have turned.
Hey, Will, I'm glad you didn't, cos I see the connection here.
Damn! What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do, girl? Oh, my gosh! Oh! Drumroll.
Gavin! Gavin! Gavin! To be honest with you, I'm really I'm so grateful that both of you have turned round for me.

You should have! I'm surprised you didn't! Thank you so much.
Thank you for that.
Damn! Oh, what a dumbass! It feels amazing! It feels .
.
really surreal.
I feel, like, a level of relief.
My nerves were getting the better of me at the start.
When they turned around, I knew I was on the right track.
At first, it felt genetic, but somehow it went into her space and I was like, "You know what, this voice is too good.
" Booyah! Congratulations! She could win the whole goddamn competition! She could win the whole show.
Not anymore.
Not anymore.
Why? Cos she's with him! Hey, come on now! That's a sore loser! That's a sore loser.
