Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021) s03e18 Episode Script

In the nation's largest city,
the vicious and violent
members of the underworld
are hunted by the detectives
of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.
These are their stories.
[UPBEAT DANCE MUSIC PLAYING]

That's so silly.
- So silly.
- So silly.
[LAUGHTER]
Seriously, am I under dressed?
I told him to go full McQueen tonight.
I told this one the same
thing, but does he listen?
- Do you see? Do you see?
- I see.
Is this is your first time?
- Is this our first time?
- This is not our first time.
Very good. Very good.
And we're not just underdressed,
if you know what I mean.
Mm.
Oh, there's plenty of that here.
So who do I talk to?
Uh
There he is, Paolo Costa,
our candy man from Rio.
Slinging coke and X to
every broker on Wall Street.
We get Paolo, we get his suppliers,
we shut down the pipeline.
Come on.
I'll introduce you.
- All right. You good?
- Good.
You wanna dance?
Uh, I'm not much of a dancer.
I bet I could make you one.
Oh!
Totally rude, right?
They tried to buy me a drink earlier,
and when I turned them down,
they pretty much did the same thing.
I'm Eric, by the way.
Greg. Nice to meet you.
Paolo.
- This is Henry.
- Hi.
- It's a pleasure.
- Oh, pleasure's all mine.
- Thank you.
- I'll leave you all to it.
Thank you so much.
So I work on Wall Street.
Risk management, very stressful.
And you wanna take the edge off.
Yeah, for tonight.
I mean, tomorrow is
another story, but
actually, do you have
anything that can cover both?
[WHISPERING INDISTINCTLY]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
That's our signal.
Let's move out. Jamie
and Reyes, move in.

First taste is on the house.
You like, you tell your friends for me.
Oh, sure thing.
Problem is, all my friends are cops.
Oh, my God.
[GRUNTING]
Somebody call somebody!
Come on, somebody help him!

Hey!
Hey, police!
Who was that?
No idea.
Cuff him up.
Sarge, we got him.
I got a man down. Get in here.
Secure him. All right.
- Coming to you!
- Where you going?
EMS is on the way.
What happened?
I don't know. He lost consciousness.
I think that's his wallet.
He's a cop.
[TENSE MUSIC]

Patient's name is Eric Geary.
He's on oxygen but awake
and stable, which, honestly,
is a bit of a miracle, given the levels
of gamma hydroxybutyrate in his system.
- GHB? How many mils?
- 8.
But he swears he never took any.
We need to speak with him.
He's showing mild hypothermia,
and I have him on a naloxone drip.
He needs to rest.
It's not gonna take long.
Room 501. You have five minutes.
I must have been dosed.
Ask your detective.
I was pretty sober when I talked to him.
So someone must have
slipped it in your drink
when you weren't looking.
Yeah, I guess.
I don't know, my memory's
still fuzzy right now.
How are you gonna write this up?
You know the routine.
We say what we saw.
Uh, see if you can grab the doctor,
get a copy of the blood work.
I wanna check something out.
Sure.
Figured we could talk in private.
I told you, I don't know anything.
I mean about what you
were doing at the club.
I don't think you were there on the job.
You're a third detective
out of the 4th precinct.
You work with Detective Chang?
Yeah, she's my lead detective.
Pretty much runs the place.
So you know who she is.
[PENSIVE MUSIC]
Yeah.
So do I.
She and I are pretty good friends.
Good for you.
Eric, you're the victim
of a pretty serious crime.
All of my people in there had pin cams.
We're gonna find out who drugged you.
I keep my private life separate.
Do you know what that
would do to me at work?
I don't wanna do that to you.
So don't.
Okay.
What would you do?
Find another way.
How'd it go?
He is very closed off.
He don't wanna have
nothing to do with this.
Gotta be honest, I didn't
know it was still an issue.
It's complicated.
As a whole, the department
has gotten much better,
but I can't say that for everybody.
You get anything?
Enough to know we
should start elsewhere.
Well, let's go and
talk to a drug dealer.
I have no idea what
you're talking about.
I'm not a drug runner
for the Commando in Rio.
Let's skip the part
where you play games.
We know you're dealing X
and coke on Wall Street.
Should we tell him about
the attempted murder
on an officer charge?
- What?
- Yeah.
You dosed an NYPD officer with GHB.
We just came from the hospital.
Plenty of people sell G.
That could have been anyone.
So you do sell G. All right.
Who'd you sell to last night?
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Who'd you sell to, Paolo?
If you cop, it looks like you cooperate.
- But if you lie
- I'm not lying.
I want a lawyer.
That guy that jumped
on him after the club,
- what was that about?
- Good Samaritan.
No, I think there's
something else there.
Huh. Like what? What are you thinking?
I don't know. A connection.
Professional? Personal?
Hey, I went through our tape
of the camera feeds at the club.
This is the guy who assaulted Paolo.
It's blurry, but you get
some features and an outfit.
Yeah, and the bouncer
we interviewed said
he followed him to a subway
after watching the beatdown.
And MTA cameras pinpoint a guy
in the same clothes, same haircut
leaving the Lorimer
stop in Williamsburg.
Odds are, he was heading home.
Good. We canvass.
You two take north of Metropolitan.
Jet and I'll take south.

Ayanna Bell!
How long has it been?
Well, my hair is curly again, so
[BOTH LAUGH]
This is Detective
Slootmaekers. This is Juan.
Juan, how long you have this place?
- Like, 20 years?
- Mm.
Before she became a big boss lady,
she used to party around here
all the time with the boys.
- Ay, dio mio.
- [BOTH CHUCKLE]
We're actually doing
a door knock search.
We're looking for this man.
Do you recognize him?
It looks like Dominic, maybe.
It's him.
We deliver to him all the time.
He in trouble?
Uh, we just need to talk to him.
I'll get you the address.
[KNOCKING]
NYPD.
I know who you are.
Hands where we can see 'em.
You need to cuff me?
So cuff me.
Gotta tell you, you seem
really calm and well-rested
for a man who just beat some guy up
and then fled the scene.
It felt good to finally
get some justice.
Rocked me right to sleep.
Justice for what?
Paolo sold you some bad product?
[SCOFFS]
Wait, you really don't know?
In the past three months,
gay men have been targeted,
drugged, and robbed blind.
And NYPD has done nothing about it.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Slow down. Targeted?
At gay spaces all over
Manhattan, Brooklyn.
The whole community is freaking out,
so yeah, I took matters
into my own hands.
This can't happen to anyone else.
Did it happen to you?
They just left me out
in the street to die.
Woke up in the hospital and found out
they used my face to open my phone.
Took 50,000 from my banking app.
It was all I had.
Did you report it?
Everyone who reports it to NYPD
never hears anything back.
So I went to go look for Paolo myself.
Everyone knows he
sells G and other stuff
to half the community.

So how many victims are
we talking about here?
It looks like over a dozen, at least.
Manhattan Robbery
Squad gave us every case
that matches our MO.
Just like Dominic, victims
connected with perps
on hookup apps, met with them at a club,
where the perps dosed our vics
with GHB then stole their cash,
jewelry, and credit cards.
Most of them were just
left on the street.
Why are we just hearing about this now?
Cases from different precincts.
No one put together it
was a coordinated effort.
- We have any IDs or descriptions of the assailants?
- Varies.
GHB has a strong effect on memory,
so descriptions have been unreliable.
And whatever profiles the
perps used were already deleted.
Hate crime?
We need more details.
What about Paolo? Is he a part of this?
Well, if he did sell drugs
to the people responsible,
he's not talking.
So we need to find the people who will.
Somebody is clearly
targeting the gay community,
so I wanna open these cases,
re-interview the victims.
He put something in my drink.
It was so dark and noisy, I
I can't remember what he looked like.
When I woke up, 58,000 had
been transferred from my bank.
They took everything.
Cash, jewelry, credit cards.
Happened to a friend of mine too.
But the cops didn't
think he was drugged,
just partied too hard.
They left Garron to die.
The detective promised
to find who did it,
but we still haven't heard back.
[SOMBER MUSIC]
Not holding our breath.
Thanks so much for coming in.
Detective Whelan will show you out.
This way.
How did I miss this?
You didn't.
Well, it's clearly a pattern,
and it's been flying under the radar.
Yeah, but Ayanna, that's not on you.
Elliot, I'm a gay cop.
And if the NYPD is ignoring
cases that involve gay victims,
that's a problem.
Okay, how do you wanna play it?
I think I know where to start.
[TENSE MUSIC]

[KNOCK AT WINDOW]
You Alex?
That's right.
You look just like your old man.
Ah I don't see it.
Well, you called me,
so what do you want?
It's not what I want.
It's what I got.
It's 200k. It's what he owes you.
Your old man didn't mention
that you were part of this arrangement.
As far as he's concerned, I'm not.
And I'd like to keep it that way.
All right. All right.
You wanna run with the big boys,
200's not gonna stop what's coming down
if I don't get the rest of what's owed.
How much?
That's, uh
that's more than I I thought. Uh
Well, then, I guess you
better step up your game, huh?
All right. Yeah.
I'll set something up.
I'll get you what you're owed.
Now he sounds just like his old man.

How many victims have there been?
Well, at least 20. I
expect there to be more.
There's a ring targeting
gay men in New York City.
And Eric was one of them?
It looks that way.
He's really private about it.
Yeah, I didn't know.
Yeah, he got dosed
in a club, passed out.
It was a close call.
But that's really not
what he's concerned about.
Is it really that bad around here?
It's tricky.
And it's different for men.
Hmm.
Well, can you give me everything
you have on this Garron case?
Crime scene was clean.
No witnesses. No security cams.
I think they wore gloves.
They knew what they were doing.
But they did leave this partial
boot print on the vic's back.
At least one of our assailants
was wearing platform boots, size 10.
I'd reach out to the Robbery Squad,
see if there's anything
that fits their profile.
- On it.
- I'll give you a hand.
I think I found something
else that might help.
First 15 victims all connect
back to the same five clubs.
And get this: all owned by the same guy.
Robert Petrillo.
We know that name.
Yes, we do.
He's been named in at least four
RICO cases over the last 12 years.
Maybe he needs extra money
for all those legal bills.
Let's go ask him.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
So let me get this straight.
You two think that I'm
robbing my own clubs?
For what? Watches?
Pocket change?
That was more than
watches and pocket change.
It's closer to 200,000 over four months.
Well, I'm sorry,
but I have nothing to do with it.
I don't know what to tell you.
You can tell us about your connections,
the ones that landed
you in court documents
for four separate mob investigations.
I grew up with some guys
that took a bad turn,
but I did not go along for that ride.
And those cases that
you're talking about,
I was questioned and eliminated.
Look, these clubs almost went
bankrupt during the pandemic.
I put the lights back on.
I make big profits from this.
Everybody's happy. Why
would I screw this up?
You guys check me out all you want.
I'm not your guy.
Hey, you're almost out of bourbon.
You're making me another one already?
I haven't even finished the first one.
Cheers to you, sexy.
Can I be honest?
I was surprised you actually
looked like your photo.
You were being so cagey on the app.
Well, you weren't, Mr.
Generous and Gentle,
just as advertised.
This is a great place.
Wanna give me a tour?
Maybe start with the bedroom?
Sure.
I actually think laying
down would be good right now.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Wow, that last sip was

[KNOCK AT DOOR]
It took too long.
I had to wait for it to kick in.
You find the safe yet?
No, but I haven't been upstairs.
All right, let's go.
I want everything you can find now.

You put the word out about GHB cases.
This man aspirated,
choked on his own vomit.
Fists were clenched, indicating seizure,
all the earmarks of an
alcohol GHB overdose.
- Thanks for the call.
- Of course.
I'll send you the tox
report as soon as I get it.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]

This doesn't feel real.
We were neighbors for over 20 years.
He was like a brother.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Mark told me he was going out
to meet someone at the club.
I told him not to,
after everything that's been going on.
Do you know who he was going to meet?
Someone off Guyser. I don't know.

You find whoever's doing this,
and you stop them.
Please.
How's that boot print coming along?
- Nothing yet, but we're on it.
- [PHONE BUZZES]
Eric.
Thanks for coming.
I thought you might wanna see this.
I realized it was missing when
I checked out of the hospital.
Then I remembered this guy I danced with
said he had a friend who collected it.
Okay. This will help. Thanks.
Also, uh, I just wanted to say
I appreciate you having my back on this.
Yeah, man. Of course.
Anything we can do.
I'm not ready.
The judgments.
The whispering.
Missing out on assignments, promotions,
not hanging out with the guys.
Being out might be best for you, but
not for me.
[PENSIVE MUSIC]
I respect that, Eric.
Okay.
But if you need anything else
Does this watch look familiar?
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Okay. Now, this I remember.
Black ceramic bezel, Swiss movements,
not the most expensive, but classic.
Dude brought this in
here, like, two days ago?
You have cameras in here?
You catch a face at all?
Would I be a pawn shop
if I didn't have cameras?
Folks would rob me blind
if they thought they
could get away with it.
[KEYBOARD CLACKING]
This is him right here.
Is that him?
Hey.
Hey!
Yo!

Whoa!
[GROANING]
Got my cardio in.
Ready?
That party's over.
Lawyered up and done talking.
Yeah, but before he shut down,
he admitted to being part of a crew.
- You search the apartment?
- Yeah.
Found cash and other
jewelry he was likely
looking to pawn and this.
Circuit party?
What's a circuit party?
It's a massive gay dance club
DJ, drinks, drugs, lots of money.
Perfect hunting ground.
Think our guys are targeting
it for another score?
You know, maybe if we
get Damon to take a deal,
he'll confirm all this for us.
Then what? We go back undercover?
See if we can get the crew?
Maybe.
I'm gonna reach out to
somebody who can help.
[TENSE MUSIC]

Drive.
What's with all the secrecy?
I said drive.
So the NYPD Organized Crime Unit
came to see me.
What do they want with you?
They were asking me about
robberies in my clubs.
You want to explain that?
What would I know about that?
I put you in charge of those
clubs for a reason, Alex.
To give you a chance.
Yeah, and I'm doing my part.
Cutting costs to the
bone, keeping revenue high.
I thought you'd be proud of me.
What about you, huh?
Digging yourself into hole
after hole after hole
- I'm managing my business.
- Really?
Gambling debts, shady
loans, dangerous people?
That's why I don't want it for you.
I'm on borrowed time,
but you have a chance to be legit.
And watch you go down in the process?

Look, just fix this, okay?
You find out whoever's doing this thing,
and you shut it down.
Don't worry about me.

Thanks for coming in.
You said you might have zeroed in
on the guy who dosed me?
Yeah, we have good reason to believe
he'll be making an appearance
at a circuit party tonight.
We were hoping you could
help us go through some photos
of possible suspects.
You going undercover?
Who's the lure?
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Everyone, you remember Detective Geary.
He's gonna lend us a
helping hand tonight.
So where are we at right now?
Well, we know this crew ideally targets
wealthy men on the Guyser app.
I built an IG profile
for Detective Stabler,
AKA Roger, where he shows
off his lavish vacations
and his expensive suits,
and then I attached that
to his Guyser profile.
You could add a rose
emoji to the profile.
It means the same as GEN,
if you've come across that.
It's, uh, like, generous with money.
- Mm.
- Might help.
Let me just, uh, take
a look at this, huh?
Weight lifting. Discreet.
Daddy? Really?
It's your look, man.
Okay, well, let's look out for
those with profile pictures.
Maybe we'll get lucky
before we get there.
Make everybody's job easier.

Still nobody?
We've used multiple filters,
a pretty wide radius.
Nobody yet.
- We'll keep trying.
- Yeah? Well, try harder.
I mean, yeah. Just keep trying.

- [SIGHS]
- Hey, you good?
Yeah.
Yeah. I'm good.
These guys are gonna be at that party,
and we're gonna weed them out.
How?
With me.
I'll go undercover with him.
Trust me, you'll need it.
What does that mean?
Are you sure?
Look, there's a good chance
that I'll recognize them, right?
So you guys just keep
filtering through the profiles
that look promising and connect
them to Detective Stabler.
We'll take care of the rest.
You put enough of
yourself into this case.
It's about time I do the same.
[ENERGETIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYING]

Nothing for me right now, thanks.
- You good?
- I'm trying to be.
As soon as you recognize
someone, you let us know.
I know, I know. It's just [LAUGHS]
Everyone's looking familiar right now.
Well, just relax.
We got eyes spotted up everywhere.

Ah, another one that looks promising.
Mm, this one's not wasting any time.
Mm-mm. Sending it to Stabler now.
Thank you.
[PHONE BUZZES]
Ben?
Roger. That was fast.
This is my good friend, Victor.
- Hey, Victor.
- Pleasure.
Pleasure's mine.
How's it going?
Okay, Stabler's made contact.
See if you can ID him.
- It's him.
- Come again?
That's him. That's
the guy from the club.
Okay.
Hold off and let Stabler reel them in.
Repeat. Do not approach.
How about we dance?
Sure.
Damn it, he's trying
to give himself cover.
Reyes. We need your help.
I got an idea.
This is great! You gotta come down here!
Wait. Zoom in.
That's Robert Petrillo's son, Alex.
Hey, uh, how about one more
drink before we head out?
Promise I'm worth it.
[TENSE MUSIC]

You guys look dry. Buy you a drink?
- G and T.
- G and T.
- Vodka soda.
- Okay. You got it.
Back in a sec.
G and T and vodka soda.
- We got him.
- Text Stabler.
- Yeah.
- Then we'll move out.

Hey, the guy that we dosed is here.
Better get out of here.
Oh, let's go.
[PEOPLE SHOUTING]
He's heading out the north exit!
Hands behind your head now.
Turn around.

What am I under arrest for?
I was just enjoying myself at a party.
That's the first card you wanna play?
Really? The dumb card?
I was minding my own business
when your guy punched me.
I could sue the NYPD for that.
Yeah, you could, but in the meantime,
let's focus on this.
This is a boot print on
a man that you robbed.
He nearly died.
Now, how much you wanna bet
that that's a perfect match
to the size 10s you have
on your feet right now?
Security footage of you dosing
Detective Stabler's drink.
Means nothing.
Oh, it's gonna mean something
when we put you in a lineup
and the victims point you out.
None of this is gonna stick.
You don't think so?
I hope you're not counting on Daddy
and his connections with the mob,
because I got bad news for you.
Daddy is a mobster wannabe.
Your dad can't help you, Alex.
Leave my dad out of this.
Why would we do that?
This is all about him, isn't it?
I mean, he bought up a
whole bunch of gay clubs
so you could take
advantage of your clientele.
- No, it's not like that.
- What's it like?
He bought those clubs
so I can run them clean.
[CHUCKLES]
Well, that didn't work
out too well, did it?
[SIGHS] So what is it, Alex?
It's in your blood, your DNA?
Because this is all you, man
robbery, racketeering,
20 victims, one of them murdered.
Add hate crime.
All you.
Look, buying those clubs
put my father in debt.
He took some bad
loans, started gambling.
Oh, okay.
So you're trying to help
pay off your dad's debts?
To who?
Who's he owe money to?
Alex, if you want the
smallest amount of leniency,
you better tell us
who we're dealing with.
Frank Moretti.
If you wanna take somebody down,
he's the one behind everything.
All right, Alex.
You wanna save your dad,
maybe we can make a deal.
How?

Get in.
I thought we could talk out here.
Get in.
Where the hell are they going?

[TENSE MUSIC]
Where are we going?
Look, I got you your money.
That's what you wanted, right?
You don't know what I want.
What do you want?

All right, he's changing the deal.
Well, you lie down with dogs
I think we should let it play out.
Jamie, Reyes, stay close.
Nobody move in until we
know what's happening.

- Dad?
- I'm okay.
It's all right. Just relax.
What's he doing here?
Well, if you shut your mouth,
I'd be happy to tell you.

Okay, I'll make this quick.
You're gonna turn over
your business to me
the door, the bar, parking, everything.
30 grand tonight, all five clubs.
And why would I do that?
Because we're pouring cement
tomorrow, and God forbid,
I would hate for your kid
here to have an accident.
Okay.
All right.
Let's talk about this.
We just did.

Dad, don't listen to him.
We've put everything into those clubs.
They're your livelihood.
This ain't about livelihood, kid.
He wants to kill us both.
Your old man has a point.
I'd listen to him.
Even if you don't wanna
save your own life,
- you might wanna save his.
- Okay.
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Okay, okay. Okay.
Don't hurt him.
I'll get you what you need.
Dad, it's okay.
We'll find another
way to pay your debts.
Debts?
- He doesn't know, does he?
- Stay out of this.
Don't know what?
Your old man's been using the club
to launder money for half
the scumbags in New York.
This is family business.
He has made a fortune.
The money you paid back on his behalf?
Chump change.
You had the money?
Do you know what I did for you?
Hey.
What is this?
- No!
- [GUNSHOT]
- Dad!
- NYPD!
- Police! Drop the weapon.
- Drop the weapon, now.
- Drop the weapon, now.
- Hey!
- Don't move!
- Drop it!
- Now!
- Turn around! Hands up!
Hands up!
[COUGHING]
Ambulance requested, corner
of Washington and Carlisle.
Turn around. Turn around.
You made a big mistake.
Big mistake.
I'm so sorry, Alex.
How's Petrillo?
Bullet grazed his side, but he's fine.
Keeps asking about Alex.
Well, the DA is looking into
the robberies, then murder.
Alex is gonna get murder one,
possibly a hate crime charge.
Frank Moretti is facing
attempted murder, extortion, robbery.
Look, we done good.
Yeah.
Yeah, we did good.
You okay?
Yeah.
Yeah. I'm fine. I
You know, cases like
these are hard, and
then there's the day-in and day-out.
[PENSIVE MUSIC]
It can be a lot, you know?
No, actually, I don't.
I don't think I'll ever know.
But I do want you to know that
whenever you may need it,
however you may want
it, I'll support you.
You almost made me cry.
What if I had?
- I'd have to fire you.
- [CHUCKLES]
- [LAUGHS]
- You headed out?
Yeah.
Somebody I gotta say thank you to.
Good night.
A lesbian bar?
The oldest one in the country.
I mean, it's not just for lesbians.
Everybody's welcome.
I wanted to thank you,
despite what happened earlier.
I'm so sorry about that.
I just saw that guy who
dosed me, and I lost it.
It's fine.
You risked a lot for this case.
We wouldn't have been able
to close it without you.
Can I ask you something?
Yeah. What's up?
How do you do it?
You know, put on the
uniform and just be yourself?
Hmm.
Ironically, while working
this case, I realized
I haven't.
You now, early on, when I came out,
I was so scared about
something going wrong.
I watched everything I
said, everything I did.
I already had the pressure of
being a Black woman on the job.
