- [roar in distance]
- They're gaining on us!
- [out of breath] Keep going.
I will buy you some time.
- [both grunt]
- [ominous music plays]
- Ow. [grunts]
- [gasps]
[roar in distance]
- [roaring]
- [Camazotz groans]
[army's footsteps rumbling]
[monsters roaring]
- [crying]
- [gasps]
[whispering] Shh, silencio, por favor.
[monster roars]
[gasps] Por favor, Zatz.
The river is not far.
- [coos]
- We'll never make it.
Then we'll die trying.
- [groans]
- [panting]
- [monster roars]
- [yelps]
- [crying]
- [shushes, sighs]
- Camazotz, there's the canoe.
- [monster roars]
- Get in! Now!
- [panting]
[weakly] Pass Zatz to me.
[tense music plays]
You will protect Zatz
better than I ever could.
- [gasps]
- Zyanya sorry, mi amor.
- [grunts, sighs]
- [Camazotz] Ooph! [thuds]
- I buy you time.
- [music fades]
- Zatz
- [cooing]
- [gentle music plays]
- I always with you.
[speaking Spanish]
- Come and get some, you monstruos!
- [sword hums]
- [tense music plays]
- Barbarians!
[yells battle cry]
[sounds fade]
[gasps] Zyanya?
- [speaks Spanish]
- [babbles]
- [Zyanya] I am here, mi amor.
- [gasps]
- [mournful music plays]
- [echoing] I will always be here.
[softly] Zyanya.
[gentle music plays]
[music fades]
[mournful music plays]
- [wind gusting]
- [owl shrieks]
[earrings jingling]
Take care of them, Mama.
Has all the snake poison passed?
- Yes.
- [all yelp]
- [dramatic music plays]
- [shrieks weakly]
- [all] Whoa!
- [Maya] We're going down!
[owl shrieking weakly]
- [all screaming]
- [branches breaking]
- [thuds]
- [shrieks]
- [Maya] Whoa!
- [thudding]
- [shrieking]
- [all scream, grunt]
- [groans] Is everyone all right?
- [Rico yelps]
Where are we?
Hidden, for now.
[owl shrieks weakly]
[shrieks weakly]
It's hurt. Chimi, do you speak owl?
That's not a regular owl.
- [grunts]
- [shrieks weakly]
- What in the gods'?
- [ethereal music playing]
[both gasp]
Lady Micte?
The goddess of death?
The goddess of death!
Please, I beg you,
can you introduce me to my mother?
In time, yes, Chimi.
- [groans]
- We need to help her.
- [gasps, grunts]
- Can we trust her?
She just saved our lives.
[Micte sighs]
- [inhales]
- [ethereal music plays]
I'm sorry I could not
carry you all to safety.
- Ay. [gasps]
- [Zatz] Your Majesty!
[weakly] I must get you to Teca.
Sure, but after you regain your strength
[hesitantly]your goddessness?
You should rest, Lady Micte.
[Micte] Yes.
I'm just gonna rest
with my eyes closed, mija.
Don't call me that.
- [gloomy music plays]
- I deserve that.
[mournful music plays]
This is all my fault.
If I hadn't been
so consumed with vengeance,
none of this would've happened.
We all knew what we were signing up for.
And Picchu
[crying, speaks Spanish]
He sacrificed himself for us. [sobs]
- [sighs] He died a warrior's death.
- Yeah. He's with his family now.
- This is all my fault. [sobbing]
- [clangs]
[sobbing continues]
[frogs croaking]
[gentle music plays]
Your friend Picchu was a great warrior.
- [softly] The best.
- I'm sorry for your loss.
And I'm so sorry
about your father and Colmillo.
[sighs] They are in a better place.
I hate when people say that.
You don't know that.
Actually, I do.
My mother died when I was just an infant.
So every night before I went to bed,
my father would share a story about her
to keep her memory alive.
But one night,
I refused to hear another story.
I told my father they made me sad.
That's when my father
let me in on a little secret.
He said since my mother died selflessly,
she's now a star in the sky.
And she's always there
looking after me. There.
That's Mama.
And that's Papa.
[Maya] They're beautiful.
And now they're together.
But some stars
don't belong in the sky just yet.
[Chimi] Picchu was always thinking of us.
Remember how he'd carry me on his
shoulders for hours and never complain?
Yeah. You remember how he used to
fist bump me and crack my ribs?
[laughs] Eh!
He was the closest thing
I ever had to a brother.
[whimpers sadly]
- [groans]
- Oh!
Relax. Lady Micte won't hurt you.
[softly] You don't know that.
When this is all over, Lady Micte's
gonna introduce me to my mother.
[sighs] There you are.
We were worried about you.
What's the plan, Eagle Warrior?
Lord Mictlan cannot be stopped.
Then we fight till the end.
You must return to your kingdoms at once.
[all gasp]
There's no prophecy.
Tell your rulers I was wrong.
- I was wrong about a lot of things.
- [gentle music plays]
And now I need you to warn everyone.
I will not abandon my pack.
When Lord Mictlan is done destroying Teca,
he will unleash his fury
on the rest of your kingdoms.
You must convince them to evacuate.
Bu-Bu-Bu-But we were
outcasts in our kingdoms.
- They'll never listen to us.
- They have to listen to you.
Zatz, the barbarians evacuated
the Golden Mountains.
- Can you track them down?
- Absolutely.
Find the Barbarian King and Princess.
Tell them about Picchu's sacrifice.
Hurry. Go now.
Wait. What about you?
We can't just leave you here, Maya.
I'll stay with Lady Micte
until she regains her strength,
and then I will make her tell me
how to kill her husband.
Then we'll return to Teca
and prepare to fight till the end.
- [dramatic music playing]
- We will buy you time.
And let it be known to all the kingdoms
that Teca went out fighting for them.
- But
- [Maya] Go.
Go now, while you still have
the cover of darkness.
[music becomes gentle]
Be well, Princess Maya.
[whooshes softly]
[owl hoots]
- Thank you, mija.
- You don't get to call me that.
You're right.
[grunts in pain]
Where are your friends?
I sent them away to warn their kingdoms
that your husband is coming to kill them.
- [fire crackles]
- One friend dying for me is one too many.
[sighs] I can't lose another one.
I felt Picchu's death.
- For him
- [gasps]
[speaks Spanish]
[groans sadly]
For him, it was not a loss.
It was a triumph.
Why? Why'd you save me?
Why the change of heart?
You hated me. You wanted me dead.
- Long ago, when I was a young goddess
- [melancholy music plays]
all I cared about was power.
That is why I married
the mightiest god of all.
[flames whoosh]
Lord Mictlan.
He become drunk with power.
I knew it was just a matter of time
before he turned on me.
You did?
That is when I discovered
the god who sacrificed a half human,
half god of death, would become
the most powerful god in the underworld.
So I gave birth to you.
- So you can sacrifice me?
- [music intensifies]
No se, Maya
[sighs regretfully]
But death itself grew a heart.
And from the moment
I first held you in my arms,
- you became all that mattered to me.
- [hopeful music plays]
I had created a life. You.
It changed me forever.
But you were never there.
I was there.
I risked everything to visit you
- every year on your day of birth.
- [gentle music plays]
[Micte hums "Bolom Chon"]
- [crying]
- [humming continues]
- [humming "Bolom Chon"]
- [both clapping along]
- [woman humming "Bolom Chon"]
- [water sloshing]
- [Maya sniffles]
- [continues humming]
Hey, that's my favorite melody.
Mine too.
Some say it was here before the world
- and will remain after it ends.
- [Micte continues humming]
I couldn't let Lord Mictlan know
I was coming to see you.
Oh, Mama.
I'm so sorry, mija.
- Mmm.
- I will always be by your side.
[inhales] Always.
- [both humming "Bolom Chon"]
- [owls hooting]
[uplifting music plays]
- [shrieks]
- [women singing "Bolom Chon" in Tzotzil]
Once we get to Teca, we must Huh?
- [squawking]
- Whoa!
- [dramatic music playing]
- [grunting]
[music continues]
Mama! Papa! [echoes]
Ay, thank the dioses! Maya's back.
- [gentle music plays]
- You did it!
Wait. Where are your warrior friends?
Remember when I promised
we'd cross the Endless Forest
to destroy the Divine Gate?
- Yes. Why?
- Oh no.
- [sad music plays]
- [sighs] Well, instead,
I convinced them to go through the gate
and storm Lord Mictlan's temple.
Oh, Maya.
[purrs with concern]
[sighs] I thought
we were the true prophecy.
I thought I believed.
I was I was wrong.
And because of me,
my friend died helping us escape.
Oh no. How did the rest of you get out?
We were flown to safety.
[owl hooting]
[chuckles nervously]
Thank you for saving my daughter, my lady.
I am the Queen of the Teca. And you are?
Lady Micte.
[laughs nervously]
- So, how's it going?
- [growls embarrassedly]
Would you like to join us
for dinner, my lady?
[in disbelief] What?
I would love to.
Uh, is this all right, Maya?
[sighs, grunts]
[pleasant music plays]
- [shrieks]
- [Maya] Eat up, Papa.
- This could very well be our last meal.
- [King eating noisily]
Mmm. Not bad.
- [Maya chomps]
- [Queen] That came out quite good.
Thank you for raising Maya
as your own, Queen Teca.
- [Chiapa growls softly]
- More pulque, please!
The moment I saw her, it was as if
she were my own flesh and blood.
Having two mothers is amazing.
Thank you for saving Maya when she
foolishly tried to fight your husband.
Well, I can see that she gets
her foolishness from your husband.
[chuckling] What?
[munching noisily]
- Hey!
- Don't "hey" your mother.
- But
- You heard your mother.
Having two mothers stinks.
[laughs] It's so wonderful that you two
can get past your anger and laugh together
- after all that's happened.
- [laughter stops]
[crickets chirping]
[chair scrapes noisily]
[growls curiously]
[King] Meow, meow-meow-meow-meow, meow!
What's that you say, Chiapa?
- You need to go outside for the pee-pees?
- What?
Huh? Oh!
And you need me and Papa
to take you out back?
- [sighs dramatically] Chiapa's so needy.
- [growls softly]
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
- Come on, you big gato.
- [snarling softly]
We'll be back soon. [yelps]
- Ouch!
- [thuds]
- [sighs] Ay, like father
- Like daughter.
Your Highness, my husband
and the other gods are coming.
I understand.
Are you sure you should fight?
- [gentle music plays]
- [sighs]
We don't have a choice.
- [exciting music plays]
- [shrieks]
- And that is the source of their power.
- [thuds]
[all] For Teca!
- [panting, yelps]
- [music continues]
Come on, Estefan.
- Easy. Easy.
- [music continues]
- [clicks, clanks]
- [laughs nervously]
- [snarls]
- [laughing] Whoa!
- [laughs]
- [snarls happily, roars]
- [panting]
- [music continues]
[all] For Teca!
[all] For Teca!
- We shall fight to the end!
- [cheering]
- [rooster crows]
- [magic whooshes]
Tadow! How you like me now?
[music continues]
[all] El Monstruo Blanco!
Lower your weapons.
Welcome home, Chimi.
- [screeching]
- [music continues]
[Barbarian King] Bats? [growls]
The Great Puma Warrior saved our lives.
Oh no! Picchu.
[crying, speaks Spanish]
- [music fades]
- [Micte] Now, Maya, listen carefully.
In both realms, you are the only one
who can kill Lord Mictlan.
[sighs] I understand.
You must stab him in the Agh!
[Micte grunting]
My lady?
- War is upon us.
- [ominous music plays]
To the plaza!
[thunder crashing]
[Maya] Brave daughters of Teca,
for too long we have lived in fear
of Lord Mictlan and his evil gods.
- [gentle music plays]
- He has savagely ripped away our fathers,
brothers, husbands, and sons.
And he has only just begun.
The evil gods will
d-d-d-destroy the Kingdom of Teca!
And when they're done
They will turn their vengeance on us.
- So we have a choice to make.
- [inspiring music plays]
We can run and hide
Or we can join forces with Teca
and we can fight!
Alone, each kingdom is a mere finger.
[all] But together,
we create a mighty fist!
Now is the time to stop living in fear.
Now is the time to fight.
Not to avenge the deaths
of our loved ones
[music intensifies]
but to secure the warrior spirits
in generations to come.
Yes, yesterday we mourned, but today,
today we fight for our future!
- [cheering]
- [music swells]
- [roars]
- [both cheer]
- [droning roar, thudding]
- Whoa!
- [continues roaring]
- [footsteps thudding loudly]
Here we go.
- [rattling roar]
- [whooshes]
- [dramatic music plays]
- [gate trills]
- [all thudding loudly]
- [tense music plays]
- [music fades]
- Steady, my warriors.
[all grunt]
[tense music plays]
- [whooshing]
- [sinister growl]
[yells angrily]
- [grunts]
- [dramatic music plays]
Tonight, I will devour your souls.
If we die, die fighting together.
- [growls]
- [blades swish]
- Agh! [grunts]
- [thud echoes]
Congratulations, half-breed.
[Maya sighs]
You just ensured the death
- of your entire civilization.
- [eerie whoosh]
- [growls]
- [growls]
- [rooster crows]
- Huh?
You sure about that, two-face?
- [upbeat music plays]
- Luna Island stands with Teca.
I I I know you told us to run,
but I've never been a good listener.
- [sighs in relief, gasps]
- [conch warbles]
I'm not sorry, Maya.
The Jungle Kingdom stands with Teca.
[roaring] Barbarians!
Hey, I missed you.
The Golden Mountains Kingdom
- stands with Teca.
- [epic music plays]
- [whooshes]
- The prophecy was real.
It was that all the kingdoms
come together to fight for each other.
Teca is the Eagle,
Luna Island is the Rooster,
the Jungle Lands are the Skull,
the Golden Mountains are the Puma.
This changes nothing.
The age of mortals is over.
- [music fades]
- "Meet a nice human girl," my father said.
- Ha!
- [romantic music plays]
Mwah! Just in case
I never get to do that again.
[clears throat]
[epic music plays]
- If it is to be
- [all] It is up to me!
- [all yelling]
- [dramatic droning]
- [yells shrill battle cry]
- [music peaks]
[music fades]
[heroic music plays]
[music fades]
