SEAL Team (2017) s01e22 Episode Script

The Cost of Doing Business

Previously on "Seal Team" I injured my shoulder 4 month ago.
I also led my team leader to believe that my shoulder was healed.
And now there's a little boy lying in the ground who shouldn't be there.
One of your guys ended up killing some local kid.
- I don't know anything about it.
- What if I told you Xeon may have been involved in Echo Team's death? Involved how? Steve knew there was lanthanum in that soil.
Steve found traces only.
Jason, can you hear me? The concussion's got him a little loopy.
Your brother, Abad, made a deal with Cutter.
- Tell me where he is.
- Parachinar.
Across the border.
Follow the light, please.
And you never lost consciousness? I told you already, no.
And you remember the whole incident? The crash.
No gaps at all? Yes, I remember the whole thing.
So, now, can I go? 'Cause I I know, you told me.
You gotta get back out there and finish this thing.
And I told you you're not going anywhere until I clear you.
So walk me through your memory of the crash.
Okay, look, there's this little alarm that's inside of the helo, and it goes off when there's an anti-air missile that locks on.
So, the alarm goes off, and the pilot says, "Brace".
So, he takes the stick, and he's jamming it around and he saved our lives.
And after the missile hit? Must have hit the tail rotor, 'cause the chopper just started spinning around.
Then, bam, we go down, the bird breaks in half.
My leg, it gets busted up.
The pilot's dead, her comms are out, and, uh, well, we get out alive.
Anything else you need to know? And when you replay the incident, there are no black spots No places where the film goes blank? No.
Well, I would definitely say you've got a concussion.
But your cognitive and motor functions seem unaffected.
And your memory's intact both immediately before and since the incident.
So I have no reason to take you out of action.
- See ya.
- Which doesn't mean I wouldn't suggest you take it easy a few days.
You've had a serious head injury.
A doctor's only as good as her patient.
You think he's lying about his symptoms? You're his friend.
You tell me.
Thanks, Doc.
You're welcome.
Take it easy.
Ray, look, there's something I want to Well, there's something I wanted to say in front of the doctor, but I didn't.
I knew it.
I knew it.
Jason, if your head's messed up It's not about my head.
- Then what's it about? - It's about Alan Cutter.
- Come on, man, not this again.
- Listen, he made a deal with Abad Halani.
You told me that already.
Yeah, and Nouri Halani confirmed it.
Nouri Halani's deathbed confession, that no one else heard, confirms your insane theory? You know what, I know it sounds crazy, but - Do you? - Yeah.
'Cause you're saying one of the biggest military contracting companies in this country is in bed with a terrorist organization.
That's exactly what I'm saying.
That's exactly what I'm saying.
Well, who else knows about this? I told Mandy bits and pieces.
You told Mandy, but you didn't tell me? Bits and pieces.
All right? And Amy.
Yeah, I figured as much.
All right, look, You know what, Ray, I should have told you, but I didn't, okay? Sorry, but What's wrong? Why are you pulling over? 'Cause there's something I ought to tell you.
- What? - It's about my shoulder.
Ray, look, I know your shoulder's not 100%.
It's more than that.
It's about the kid in J-Bad that got killed from my grenade when it When I threw it short.
My shoulder, Jace, I I told you that I was all good, that the doc checked me, cleared me for deployment.
What was the first rule Adam used to tell the new guys when they got to Bravo Team, huh, Ray? Never lie to your team leader.
We are looking at a fortified bunker above Parachinar, on the Pakistan side of Tora Bora.
You sure that's where Nouri said Abad would be holed up? Yeah.
Why? His bunker's built into a mountain.
I don't want to send you in there unless we have to.
Is this gonna be a problem? Shouldn't be.
The brass understands that we have a chance to take out the entire Halani network.
Short of starting a war with Pakistan, Command will be on board with whatever it takes to get Abad.
Great.
Sun goes down in a few hours.
Puts us Parachinar in what, 9:00, 9:30, right? So, what are we missing? Well, surveillance shows that Nouri's men are already regrouping.
With Nouri dead.
We assume most of them are gonna pledge allegiance to Abad.
But there will be some holdouts who feel like the only way to preserve their honor is to avenge Nouri's death.
Those guys are gonna go after Abad.
If you don't get there before they do We're liable to end up right in the middle of a real brother-against-brother blood feud.
So, like I said, send those down, we go.
Hey, hey.
I hear when you grabbed Nouri, you started yelling at him about Cutter, tried to get him to tell you how they knew each other.
- Yeah.
So? - Okay, so can I assume that when Nouri was dying, you asked him again? There's something I gotta do before we go down this road.
Hey, if we keep investigating Cutter, you're gonna be putting your girlfriend in a really tight position.
Not just her.
It looks like someone tipped her off.
And that someone could be up for a dishonorable discharge.
Even time in Leavenworth.
I gotta go take care of something.
I'll be back soon.
Hi Listen, I just want to say that I'm not okay with the way that Hey I need you to pack.
You understand me? Why am I packing? Because you're leaving, that's why.
S01E22 The Cost of Doing Business What up, Superbad? Are we going out again tonight? - Yep.
- Nice.
Abad Halani gets a head start, decides to leave the mountains, - we will never catch him.
- I could definitely use a few more hours' sleep.
That's for damn sure.
I could have just used one.
Oh, wait, let me guess.
Stella? Yeah.
I haven't been able to reach her the last few days.
Kind of gives the imagination some time to run wild, you know? Yeah, you're telling me.
That big hunk of meat Danny not call you back? - No.
- Oh.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna have to give that one a little bit of a rest.
Look.
He's probably nervous.
Big thing seeing someone after three months, you know.
I mean, even if you love 'em.
Especially if you do.
If-If you get back, and you need somebody to talk to, I'm here.
Thank you, but I think you're gonna be pretty occupied.
I don't know.
Maybe I should give that a rest, too.
Okay this whole Oprah DeGeneres mutual support thing is make this rather narrow space positively confining.
All right, if you'll forgive me - Never.
- I'm out.
Bye.
This feel right to you? What, voluntarily getting on a helicopter after watching one get shot down? Not that.
Abad.
I mean, the guy's been playing chess this whole time.
He's been five moves ahead.
Right? Suddenly he's at checkmate? Got his brother out of the picture, and now he's gonna he's gonna hole up somewhere Nouri's guys know about? He's not worried they're gonna come looking for some payback? Man, the fact is ISR confirms he's there.
Hey, let's go.
TOC, this is Bravo 1.
We're holding Goldfinger.
300 yards from the bunker.
Copy that.
Our ISR footage is still out, so for now we're in the blind.
Bravo 2, tell me what you see.
I count one two three Five sentries, including a machine guns nest guarding the main entrance.
Seems like you probably beat Nouri's guys there, but we won't know for sure until we get a visual.
Copy that.
Let me know when you have eyes.
Hey.
Hey, boss.
I say we set up sniper overwatch, take out the big guns.
Yeah, you're right.
Ray and I can we can perch up over there.
All right, go set it.
TOC, this is Bravo 1.
Moving to Blofeld.
Get down! Down! Where the hell'd that come from? Okay, all positions hold what you got.
Somebody talk to me.
I-I see 'em.
AK fire over here on the southeast.
Boss, I don't think they're shooting at us.
It looks like it's all directed towards the target.
Bravo 1, give me a sitrep.
Sir, it looks like Nouri's guys got here after all.
They're engaging Abad's men from the southeast.
Are you taking fire? Negative.
I don't think they know we're here.
Holy crossfire, Batman.
TOC, we got a visual? Roger, Bravo 1.
ISR feed is back online.
Hold your position for now.
Okay, boys, looks like we have 50-yard-line seats to a real-life Family Feud.
So what, boss? Let these guys keep firing, kill each other? Let these guys shoot it out.
Well, what if Abad and his guys end up on top? We'll move on them then, after Nouri's guys soften them up a little.
Unless Abad uses the chaos to slip out again.
We got a chance to end this thing tonight.
I say we take it.
We can't exactly walk in the front door.
There's got to be a ventilation shaft in those bunkers.
All right, so I tell you what, we'll slip in through the back door while the Hatfields and McCoys, they battle it out.
Let Nouri's guys be our cover element, even if they don't know it.
Ray, you and Brock, you stay here.
Copy that.
Bingo.
Bravo 4, hold what you got.
Do not breach the gate.
I say again, do not breach the gate.
Why? It's rigged.
This whole bunker, maybe.
Rigged how? I can see a bunch of wires running through the hinges.
Sit tight.
Check it.
Yeah, this one's rigged, too.
All call signs, avalanche.
I repeat, say again, avalanche.
Regroup at the rally point.
TOC, this is Bravo 1.
The mountain's rigged.
Abad is looking to take out whoever makes it in here.
Roger, Bravo 1.
Wait one.
Abad's got the place wired.
It's pretty smart.
Wait for Nouri's guys to take the bunker, and then bring it right down on top of them.
- Just like he did with Echo Team.
- Abad's not an idiot.
He knows his brother's hardcore followers will show up here.
He figures he can take them all out at once, end the Halani civil war before it starts.
It's a shame we can't just let him.
Maybe we can.
All right, listen up.
New plan, all right? Stay here, watch these idiots kill each other, then we're gonna go get Abad.
Got it? See? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that knows how to have a good time.
We're going to 50% security, I'm racking out.
Wake me when it's over.
Okay, here we go.
They're heading inside.
Let's go, guys.
Get up.
Wake up.
Let's move.
TOC.
This is Bravo 1.
Still have ISR up? Roger, you are good to go.
We're keeping our eyes peeled for squirters.
All right, look, as far as we can see all of Nouri's guys are inside.
If Abad is watching, this whole place is gonna go If Abad's in there, he should be on the move.
There, there.
All Bravo call signs, be advised, you've got three squirters, 200 meters east of your position, moving north.
TOC, we're on them.
Come on! Abad, easy.
Tell your men to put their guns down.
Damn it.
Hey.
Hey, get up here.
Hey! You made a deal with Cutter.
Huh? You made a deal with Cutter.
What was the deal? What was the deal? Smile.
Steve Porter says hi.
Send it.
Good work.
- Thank you.
- Nice work, guys.
- Welcome back.
- Welcome home.
Glad you're back safe and sound.
All right, listen up, everybody.
I know we had this celebration once before, thinking we got some payback for what happened to the Echo guys, but this time we finally earned it.
Not only did we bring justice to the killers who set up our team, but we also took down the Halani brothers.
And that is the biggest victory we've had in this place in years.
You should all be very proud of yourselves.
The list that you asked me to get, the rundown of all the things that were shipped back home by Mortuary Affairs for Steve, you looking for anything in particular? Hoping I know it when I see it.
Yeah, I thought you might say that.
What do you got? Well, this is a list of everything that should've been shipped home.
On 11/2, he ordered an external hard drive.
It was not shipped home.
External hard drive, you think that's something maybe he could've taken on his ops, maybe it got destroyed or something? Maybe.
But I think that you think that it's still here, and I think that you're about to ask me to help you find it, which means it's time for you to tell me what's going on.
- Yeah.
- Yeah, I second that.
Okay.
Let's go have a talk over here.
Come on.
None of us should ever forget the risk those helo guys take getting us in and out of places we go.
And you knew all of this? Parts of it.
Look, this doesn't necessarily mean that Cutter was in on the hit on Echo Team.
It's possible he just told Abad that Steve could expose them and Abad decided to take him out on his own.
Even then, it means Cutter's been covering for him.
Well, either way, Cutter's got to pay.
Question is, how do we make that happen? Will Amy testify? She doesn't know anything.
How about I get her in a room and find out for sure? You know what? She's gone.
I hope to hell you know what you're doing.
All right.
Let's find a hard drive.
Where do we start? His hooch, the gear tent.
No, no, it's not gonna be in his hooch.
I knew Steve.
He wouldn't put it somewhere obvious.
He'd put it somewhere that Think I know where it is.
Hey.
If this ends up being sightseeing photos or music downloads, we're all gonna feel pretty stupid.
These are deeds of sale, farms.
We've seen some of this stuff before.
Yeah, but not all of them.
Paul told me the guy at the Hall of Records said another Westerner had been in there recently.
Just assumed it was another reporter.
You got to be kidding me.
Wow.
Steve got a lot farther than I did.
Yeah, one more, buddy.
Looking good, man.
25.
Oh, yeah, bud.
That's some old man strength right there.
Yeah, good set, old man.
- What's up, fellas? - What's up, boss? What's going on, Blackburn? Get a word with you? Yeah, yeah.
You, uh, asked me to talk to some people, see if I could track down Danny Cooper? He's in the VA hospital in Hampton.
Uh, Danny's a civilian now, so his records are private.
Couldn't get the nurse to say much, but from what I could put together, the Virginia Beach cops found him in his car with a needle in his arm.
Son of a bitch.
Yeah, well, if you don't mind me saying, that's not the compassionate response I was expecting.
Yeah, I don't mean him, I just mean this whole damn situation.
What in the hell am I gonna tell Davis? Well, you can always try telling the truth.
It's the easiest thing to remember.
Mr.
Cutter is currently in a meeting, you can't just go in there Sir! Excuse me, sir! I am so sorry, Mr.
Cutter, I told him No, no, no, it's quite all right, Ms.
Lee.
Actually, you know, I'm happy to have the chance to shake the hand of the man who shot Abad Halani.
- I'll call security.
- No, there's there's no need.
Just please, uh, shut the door behind you.
I heard you suffered quite a nasty nasty bang to the head.
I'm happy to see you're none the worse for wear.
You want to explain those? Well, I'd rather wait until you to tell me what they are.
Deeds, geology reports, photos.
Put that all together, shows that you made a deal with Abad Halani.
Ah.
Got your guys to burn those poppy fields, so you can get the land on the cheap.
To mine a trillion dollars in lanthanum? And you're admitting it? Obviously not.
Look, we've been through this, Jason.
There is no lanthanum here, we looked.
Maybe there is, maybe there isn't.
But you made a deal with Abad.
Halani's a terrorist.
It would've been a crime for me to make a deal with him.
And if those papers proved anything like that, you'd have walked in here with the FBI.
Look, you're not totally wrong about what's going on here, Jason.
You just got the wrong guy.
It's a new Great Game here in the land of the Pashtun.
There's a lot of players, there's a lot of big players, because someday soon, when electric cars are the only ones anyone will make, lanthanum is gonna be more valuable than gasoline.
Wow, when you put it that way, I guess killing six American operators, that's just a small price to pay.
First, obviously, I didn't kill anybody.
Second, I just told you that one day, lanthanum is gonna be more valuable than oil.
And how many men have died to keep that flowing? Hey.
You're going down.
You know, you're a good operator.
Yeah, you're committed.
It's a pity I can't offer you a job.
Security's Everything is fine, Ms.
Lee, thank you.
Uh, Master Chief Hayes was just leaving.
Oh, and by the way, Ms.
Lee, would you mind calling Amy Nelson for me, have her come see me? Absolutely.
Good luck trying to find her.
You know what, Jason? Did you ever really think about how much a trillion dollars actually is? A man once told me the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire.
A million seconds is 12 days, a billion seconds is 34 years.
And a trillion seconds ago, there were still mastodons in North America.
War is hell, sure, but it's also opportunity.
Right.
You're going down, bud.
Yeah.
So I take it Cutter didn't go for it? No, it was a waste of time.
Okay, so we didn't get him to admit to it on tape, so what? We have other moves.
No, not those moves What, the FBI? I mean, that was our plan B.
Cutter's too smart for the FBI, not gonna work.
Okay, so what's your alternative? Oh, my alternative? I'm working on that as we speak.
Davis told me that you asked for a map of the main base, and wouldn't tell her why.
Mm-hmm.
- Jason, you can't just murder Cutter.
- Why the hell not, right? - We're at war, he's the enemy.
- You kill Cutter, you're not gonna stop Xeon, you're just gonna ruin your life.
I don't care about my life.
Well, I do.
I blow his head off, Echo boys, they rest in peace.
That's all I know.
I hear you.
But Jason, the people behind Cutter.
The big money, in Washington, London, Frankfurt.
Islamabad.
The people who stand to gain from all of this war, they can't be stopped with a gun.
How? How? I wasn't sure you'd show.
Neither was I.
So you want to tell me why you got me out here? Is this gonna be our relationship from now on? It appears so.
Is there anything I can do about that? Nothing comes to mind.
You know, I'm actually up against a deadline, so if we - could make this quick - Would that be your big expose on evil American operators who, despite taking every precaution, accidentally killed a local kid? If you're trying to talk me out of the story, making fun of it is really not the way.
What if I gave you a bigger story? Hmm.
The last time you gave me a story, it turned out to be a lie intended to further your own interests.
Well, what are the chances I'd be stupid enough to try that again? This one's true.
I can prove it.
I've got maps, photos, internal company documents.
What company? First, you have to promise you're gonna drop the other story.
All right.
If your news story is big enough, I'll drop the one I'm writing about the dead kid.
If I give you what I got, how do I know you're not just gonna run with both stories? I guess you're just gonna have to trust me.
How much do you know about Alan Cutter? Drinking alone, now that is a slippery slope, Ray.
Well, then, good thing you're here to s save me from it.
You ready to tell me what you've been running around on since we got back from Abad? You, Mandy and Davis? I think you can guess.
Cutter? Yeah.
You know, I could help you with that.
Cutter's too dangerous.
He's the kind of guy who'll use your wife and kids to come after you, and I I got to keep you far away from that.
That's why you don't want me on it? To protect Naima and the kids? You lied to me, Ray.
You lied to the team, put us all at risk.
Yes, I did.
And I owned up to it.
Oh, so you want credit for that? Look, brother, I messed up.
Yeah, you did.
I couldn't miss deployment, and I-I thought I could work around the shoulder.
So where does that leave us? Leaves us right here, 12, 13 hours before we board that-that freedom bird to get home.
What about after that? Well, first of all, you're gonna get that shoulder surgery you're saying that you don't need.
Second, uh, you're go, uh, teach at Green while you're rehabbing.
That's a good idea.
Teach at Green Team? Adam will love to have you.
Besides, you're got to put in your instructor time before, uh, Command will even give you your own team.
Means I'll be off of Bravo for a few months.
Sure I'm-a have a spot to come back to? We'll talk about that when the time is right.
We, uh, also gonna talk about what's not wrong with your head? Ha.
- See you.
- Have a good one.
Daddy! Oh, hey, baby girl.
Daddy missed you so much.
- I missed you, too.
- Yeah? Yeah? Come on.
You did? - You did? - Yes.
- Yeah? - Uh-huh.
You look great.
Look at you! I prefer the view from over here.
Mm.
How you feeling? Good.
I'm good.
Come on.
He's so big.
Mm, wait till you hold him.
- Don't mind if I do.
- Come on, baby.
He just has to get used to you.
Right.
All right.
Come on, it's just Daddy! Daddy, you want to see how we redid my room? Yeah, sweetie, I do.
I really do.
Come on, let's get going.
Yeah.
Come on.
Ah.
Forget how clean it is here.
You always say that.
- I do? - Yes.
Now, there's no dust, and dirt's in the ground where it should be.
Is this what you wanted to talk to me about - on the plane? - Nah.
But I just think we should stop somewhere, uh, before you drop me off.
Stop somewhere? What, you don't think it's just a little bit early for all that? Or maybe you just realized you forgot toilet paper? Yeah.
It's Danny.
What? Look, look, I wanted to tell you earlier, but I just - I just couldn't find the right moment.
- Okay, Sonny, you're scaring me, so just go ahead and tell me.
Blackburn told me that he's in a little bit of trouble.
Talking about Blackburn told you something? - W-Why would Blackburn - Davis, look at me.
It's drugs.
Okay? And he's not doing good.
What, he OD'd? He relapsed.
Cops found him in his car.
Where is he? He's at the VA hospital.
So, in the end, Brecht's "alienation effect" was anything but, uniting his performers with the audience in a new appreciation for the complex political and social issues of the day.
Okay, that's it for the week.
Try to get your Joyce papers in to me ASAP.
And if you need an agenda for the MLA conference, speak to Ms.
Baxter, who, as always, knows more than any of us.
Thank you, Gordon.
Um Yeah, okay.
Okay, people, so the MLA added four more sessions on transactional text analysis.
Which means that if you're like me, and you don't really know what that is you can, uh, you can join me in my office, um My office hours a-are which are my office Um Sorry, excuse me.
Wait a minute, okay, so you're telling me that you get a two-week vacation on a beach in the Indian Ocean? Diego Rivera's not exactly a resort.
Can I help you? Oh, hey! - Welcome home.
- Yeah.
It's good to be back.
Alana and the kids were in last week.
That's nice.
Yeah.
So, uh, the usual? Yeah, um yeah, the usual.
Two steak burritos, extra steak.
And for you? Two fish tacos, please.
And a lot of limes, right? Right.
Yeah.
$19.
14.
Just, um, keep the change, will ya? You're order 67.
Must be some pretty good food.
Ah.
Compared to J-Bad, I tell you, this place is, oh, it's amazing.
Makes your knees weak.
The salsa is really hot.
Don't know how I feel about that.
So, Alana gets home tomorrow? Yeah.
Yeah, I think so.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Hey, have I ever told you how Alana and I met? Tell me again.
Well, we were in high school together.
Um, technically, she was a junior.
Scandalous.
Yeah.
And, uh, we used to always go to this quarry a-after school.
When it was warm, we'd go swimming.
And, uh, I was I was always doing something crazy.
You? Can't imagine.
So, I did this, um front flip, triple thing, and I landed just flat on my tummy.
From about 35 feet up high.
Next thing you know, you were - going down - Yeah.
I was going down.
And, um then I felt this hand, it was I looked over, and this skinny girl, she was pulling me up, and I never seen her before.
- Tough chick.
- Tough chick that's what I thought.
Looked over at her, and she was grinning.
And I knew, I I knew that, uh She was gonna be your wife.
That she was gonna be my wife.
Number 67.
I'll get it.
the Dow was up 234 points, and the NASDAQ down 45.
That's a two percent drop in the last week.
And in international news, Alan Cutter, the controversial president of Xeon Tactical, has been arrested.
Cutter and several members of his staff were taken into custody in Jalalabad, Afghanistan He's just back from Iraq? Afghanistan.
Hey.
I'm sorry, kid, I'm sorry.
I really tried to help you.
I wanted to save you, and I I didn't.
I didn't Jason? Who are you talking to? Jason, are you okay? No.
Okay.
- No.
I shouldn't - It's okay.
I'm here.
It's okay.
Are you okay? It's me.
It's me, it's Mandy.
We're home.
You just had a concussion.
You're okay.
