Tangled: The Series (2017) s02e14 Episode Script

Rapunzel and The Great Tree

1 (theme song playing) I got the wind in my hair and a fire within 'Cause there's something beginning I got a mystery to solve and excitement to spare That beautiful breeze blowing through I'm ready to follow it who knows where And I'll get there, I swear With the wind in my hair Previously on Tangled RAPUNZEL: It's my first trip outside of Corona.
It's like a whole new chapter of our lives has just begun.
Aren't you excited to see where these rocks are taking us? My name is Adira, and I am here to make sure you get to the end of this journey you're embarking on.
The Dark Kingdom.
KING EDMUND: This stone has destroyed too many lives.
It stops today! Your Majesty, please.
You know the stone cannot be destroyed.
Our only hope is to keep its power from the world.
KIND EDMUND: Anyone who seeks out this opal, must be stopped.
XAVIER: Eons ago, an evil warlock, Zhan Tiri, had a deep hatred for Corona.
RAPUNZEL: I want answers more than anyone.
I feel like whatever is waiting for us at the end of this road, is only part of why we're out here.
QUIRIN: The stone and its destructive power must be kept secret from the world.
It is the Brotherhood's duty to keep that secret, it is King Edmund's dying wish.
There is another way! If we could go out and find the sun drop Enough! The sun drop is a myth, sister.
(growling) It's real, Hector, and its power could neutralize the moon stone! Go, go, chase empty legends like a fool, but just know, if you come back, you ain't my fellow brethren.
You're a traitor.
Sun drop or not, I'll end you.
Okay, bank left! Duck! Yeah! We lost her! CASSANDRA: How many times do I have to tell you? Watch your flank! Nice move! Thanks! It's just like old times.
Well, not quite like old times.
Whoo-hoo! (chittering angrily) Whoa! I've gotten pretty good at horseback riding since Corona.
Great.
Don't get cocky.
I still got a trick or two up my sleeve.
Told you we had this.
Oh, whoa! Phew.
Thanks, girl.
Make way! Don't worry, boy.
You got this.
Raps! Wait! It's too wide! You could go splat.
Ha! Best race ever! After being cramped in that caravan for the last few months, it's so great to be out here in the open, just the two of us.
Yeah, it's great.
But for the record, this was a scouting trip.
No one officially said anything about it being a race.
Cass, don't be a sore loser.
Hey, I am not a sore loser.
To be a sore loser, I'd have to have lost something.
(gasps) There it is.
RAPUNZEL: The Great Tree.
Oh wow.
You know, Adira said the inside is hollowed out, and it's the fastest way through those mountains.
Ugh.
Adira.
Okay, it'll be dark soon.
We should head back to camp and set out here in the morning.
You're right.
Race ya! And it's official this time! Oh, it is so on.
(growls) Okay.
The Great Tree is just over that ridge.
Ya know, I gotta say, when we aren't fighting bad guys, running from fish people or being turned into birds, life on the road can be pretty peaceful.
HOOK FOOT: Scissors beats paper! Of course, scissors beats paper.
But this isn't paper.
This is a karate chop.
Used properly by an experienced practitioner, it can be the sharpest, most precise cutting weapon in the world.
Hence, karate chop beats scissors.
Guys! Guys! Guys! What is going on? We wanna see who's gonna clean our room by playing rock, paper, scissors, but he keeps tryin' to cheat! (gasps) Cheat? How dare you, sir! He's lying, Eugene! Really? Scissors always beats paper! And karate chop always beats scissors! LANCE: Hey! (indistinct arguing) I'm suddenly missing last night, when it was just you and me.
(arguing continues) Speaking of last night, Raps.
That jump you and Max took Oh, you mean the jump that won us the race? It wasn't a race.
But yeah, that one.
It was kinda reckless.
Cass, you of all people should know I can handle myself pretty well out here.
I don't need someone to keep me safe.
- (rumbling) - (horses nicker) (thudding) (bellows) Have no fear, the peacekeeper worked his magic Aah! (roars) Why are we just standing here? Run! (chirps) (hooves thundering) Anyone want to take a guess as to who rhino man is? I am happy to hazard a guess.
Anyone other than Shorty.
Wow.
A rhinoceros.
Oh! I never thought I'd actually see one.
I gotta say, if it weren't chasing us and our lives weren't on the line Blondie, it is and they are! Uh, right! We can't outrun it! Maybe we don't have to.
I hope this works.
Ready? One Two RAPUNZEL: Three! Yes! EUGENE: Come on, Max! Uh, Princess? Watch your flank.
EUGENE: He's still after her.
We gotta get down there! - (growling) - Huh? Max, you keep up with the others.
I'll take care of these Ooh, I wanna call them wolf-monkeys, right? Uh-oh.
Weeeee! - Shorty! - Giddy-up! None shall enter the Dark Kingdom! This brings back memories! Gotcha! - Whoa! - (Max whinnying) - Hello, Blondie.
- Hi.
Little help out here? Adira.
I see you've gotten yourself into another situation from which I must rescue you.
Adira? Yo.
How's my hair? You can't protect them, Adira! You know this guy?! What does he want? Guys, don't mean to be a backseat driver, but we're gonna run off the cliff! If we're gonna go, we're gonna go big.
I need you to dig deep and put some distance between us and them.
You can do it! Seriously, there had to be an easier way for us to hang out together.
Am I right? Two years ago, I'd call fighting jackal monsters on the back of a speeding carriage whilst a rhinoceros chases the woman I love absolutely bonkers.
Now I call it Tuesday.
Time to get some answers.
You probably didn't hear me, but I'm the one who told the princess to run the caravan off the cliff.
So really, I saved us.
Don't feel like you have to thank me.
But you can if you want.
I get it, I get it.
You got stuff to do.
You're welcome! Adira, wait.
Who was that man that attacked us? And don't give us any of your cryptic runaround talk.
His name is Hector.
And I don't think I appreciate your tone.
(gasps) Oh! I'm sorry I gave you the impression I care about - the things you appreciate.
- All right, all right.
Who is Hector? He's a member of the Brotherhood, a group of warriors sworn to keep any and all away from the Dark Kingdom.
Dark Kingdom? That's where we're headed.
How many are in this brotherhood? Not many.
But you've encountered one before today.
Quirin, father of Varian.
But none of the brothers is as dangerous or sadistic as Hector.
And this is his domain The Great Tree.
He's sworn to stay here to ensure no one crosses these mountains.
And how do you know so much about all of this? Let's just say some of us in the Brotherhood disagree on a couple of things.
All right, so we have to go through crazy rhino guy's house to get to this Dark Kingdom? Guys, we barely got away from this Hector with our lives, and now we're going to trust her and go through his home turf? I don't like it.
Well, like it or not, it's our only choice.
Your call, Blondie.
I'm going with Adira on this.
Guys, let's go through that tree.
Fine.
The Great Tree.
It's beautiful.
Yeah, it's great.
But we need to keep moving if we want to stay ahead of Hector.
- (Pascal squeaking) - Whoa.
Thanks, buddy.
(sighs) That was close.
Guys, look! EUGENE: Uh, it looks like the only way across is to go all the way up one road And down the other.
Then I guess that's what we gotta do.
Come on.
This place gives me the creeps.
Ugh.
Me too.
That's probably because this tree was once known as the Tree of Zhan Tiri.
RAPUNZEL: Wait, wait, wait.
The ancient sorcerer whose magic caused a deadly snowstorm that nearly destroyed Corona? And let's not forget his little art teacher buddy who turned you into a zombie.
(laughing) You might have mentioned Zhan Tiri before you dragged us in here.
It's perfectly harmless now.
Millennia ago, this tree was once a sentient being, a force for good.
But it was corrupted by the evil sorcerer to destroy any who approached.
It was Zhan Tiri's stronghold.
Inside it, he was invincible.
But Lord Demanitus put a stop to the tree's magic using an enchanted spear.
So you see, you have nothing to fear.
The evil magic is long gone.
But more importantly, you're with me.
Well, it is a long way up.
We'd better get a move on.
Look, Adira, you may have sold my friends on you being the wise, but kooky, old mentor, but I'm not buying it.
I'm watching you.
Well, if that's what you want, be my guest.
But as a servant of the princess, isn't it your job to watch her? I'm not a servant.
Oh, I thought that's what a lady-in-waiting was.
(growling) Looks like our job isn't done yet.
You think Adira would like these? Um Lance, buddy.
About this whole Adira thing Let me see.
How do I put this? But have you considered the possibility that maybe, big maybe, Adira might not be into (clears throat) interested in you at all? Not interested? Of course she is.
Look at me.
What's not to love? Well, for one.
You might want to think about being a bit more Uh, how do I say? Honest.
Me? Not honest? Name one thing I've done that hasn't been on the up and up.
Well, you took the last apple at breakfast and blamed Max, then you cheated playing rock, paper, scissors, also you took credit for saving the group from all of the things we've already done right now because you're a big galoot.
Of course I'm not gonna seem honest if you point out all the times I lie.
Wait.
Where are the others? Where is the war? It looks like there's something up there.
What is this place? (Rapunzel gasps) Eugene, look at Wait.
Where is Eugene and Lance? - Where's Max? - Where's Pascal? Where's Shorty? Okay, uh We should circle back and What does it mean? ADIRA: No one knows for sure.
But many have perished trying to unravel its mystery.
Well, someone translated some of it.
"Flower gleam and glow, let your powers shine" It's the healing incantation for the sun drop.
This must be where it came from.
Blondie? Cass? Well, they have taken the other path.
Hey, you think Adira would like this? (coughing) (laughing) Lance, would you just (both laughing) Gotcha! I an really sorry that I called you dishonest.
- Ah, forget it.
- I really am.
- You were right.
- I think you're just perfect.
Thanks buddy.
You're my best buddy, buddy.
No, you're my best buddy, buddy! If you're feeling jumpy, lost or low I hope you know I'm here Life's a little bumpy, call me bro I'll always lend an ear Oh, you mean literally! Buddy You're my best buddy When things get nutty Nutty? You're always there, mon frère Touché! And buddy Who cares if people think it's strange You're my best buddy, bud Don't ever change I'm sorry I called you dishonest, Lance.
Well, I can play a little fast and loose with the truth.
But you wanna know one thing I never lie about? You! You're my closest pal.
When I need a wingman by my side I hitch a ride with you Ask for anything, man, I'll provide It's no big whoop-dee-doo! You're a buddy You're my best buddy When I feel cruddy You set me straight, old mate So, buddy No matter what the fates arrange You're my best buddy, bud Don't ever change Check out these moves, man.
Ha-ha! Oh, Lance! Shall we? Of course, take the lead.
We shall.
Here we go.
Buddy You're my best buddy Though life gets muddy This friendships clean, old bean So, buddy Whatever comes, however strange You'll always be my best buddy My fun and the silliest buddy You're never, ever a big fuddy-duddy You're something else that rhymes with buddy You're my best buddy, bud Don't ever change I don't believe it.
What? What is it? It's another incantation.
Another sun drop incantation? No, not the sun drop.
The moon stone.
The sun drop's power was to heal.
What's the moon stone's? "Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free.
" "Whither and decay, "end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free.
" - Uh, Raps? - "Whither and decay, "end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free.
" Okay, Raps.
You can stop now.
(coughing) Rapunzel? Whither and decay End this destiny Break these earthly chains And set the spirit free The spirit free (laughing) Hey buddy, you know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say we're about to get eaten by a flower.
You are spot-on.
And it looks like I'm going in headfirst.
Well, I guess this is goodbye, huh? I mean, if you gotta go, I couldn't think of a better guy to go out with.
Ha! Right back at ya, buddy.
(Max neighs) (neighing) Max, Pascal! Thank goodness you guys are here.
Yeah, I need help.
Do you think Adira would like these flowers? I mean, not the one that's about to eat us.
(squeaks) (neighing happily) Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains and set the spirit free.
Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Rapunzel, stop! Please.
Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Rapunzel! Raps? Raps? No, no, no.
Please.
That was unexpected.
Oh, you're okay.
I'm sorry, Raps.
I'm supposed to protect you.
It's okay, Cass.
Thank you, Adira.
Rapunzel, what's up? (all groaning) Whoo! Whoa.
It's a long way down.
I guess this means we're at the halfway point.
I suggest we camp out here for the night.
No way.
We are getting out of this tree as soon as possible.
I'm not sure that's your call, kid.
Cass, we could use the rest.
Rapunzel, this place almost got us killed an hour ago.
And thankfully, I was there to prevent it.
You stay out of this, Adira! I think you should calm down.
You know what I think? I think you're playing us.
I think you led us here on purpose, and from some sick reason, you wanted Rapunzel to find that incantation and read it.
Come on, Cass.
Listen to yourself.
Rapunzel, I'm telling you right now, we need to get out of this tree, but more importantly, we need to lose Adira before she gets us all killed.
I can't do that, Cass.
What do you mean you can't do that? Of course you can.
Are you that obliviously naive that you can't see Enough, Cassandra! No one is getting rid of anyone.
Is that clear? Yes, Your Highness.
I'll keep first watch.
RAPUNZEL: This is amazing.
You haven't seen anything yet, Your Highness.
This is just the east wing.
I still can't get over that library.
Are you sure that I can go anytime I want? You're the princess.
You can do whatever you want.
Forgive me, Your Highness, but I couldn't help but notice you tend to collect everything.
I can't help it.
It's all so new.
That's why I got you something you might find useful.
Oh my gosh.
Cassandra! Thank you! I love it.
This is so thoughtful.
Look at it.
I can put all kinds of things inside it.
Books and fruit, and paint supplies, seashells.
Yeah, you can put whatever you want in it.
Thank you so much.
Okay.
Huh, sure.
And not just for this gift, but for everything you've shown me these past few days.
I am so, so lucky to have someone like you that I can trust and to help me adjust.
I don't know what I would do here without you.
You're a good friend, Cassandra.
Call me Cass, Your Highness.
Only if you call me Rapunzel, Cass.
I don't get it, Eugene.
I have never seen Cass act like this before.
Yeah.
Angry, brooding, impatient, I'm stunned.
You know what I mean.
Ever since we left Corona, she's been different.
Because she is.
We all are, Blondie.
We've all had to make some adjustments since leaving Corona.
We're not the same people we were six months ago and well, why would Cass be any different? It's just that ever since I've known Cass, it's like she seems so together.
You, of all people, should know things aren't always what they seem.
So, earlier that got awkward, huh? Huh.
Which part? I know.
It's been an unusual day.
You know it's not just about Adira, right? I mean, she's a jerk and I can't stand her, but it's just Since when did you stop trusting my judgement? Cass, you are the closest thing that I will have to a big sister.
But I'm not that naive girl fresh out of the tower anymore.
I am going to be queen someday.
And I can promise you, I'm going to make decisions that you're going to disagree with, and I need you to be okay with that.
Well, I better get some rest.
(yawns) I'm on the next shift.
Guess we all are born with parts to play Some of us are stars And some are just in the way I know I was meant for glory But that's never what my story brings And yet, I keep on waiting When you have the passion and the drive You expect your moment center stage to arrive I show up with heart ablazing Ready to achieve amazing things But I'm left waiting in the wings I hear my cue And yet I'm kept there waiting Know what to do And still I stand there waiting It's always someone else Who sings While I'm left waiting in the wings And so I keep on keeping on My chances come And then I blink and they're gone Always overlooked unfairly While pretending that it barely stings But it stings, yes, it stings And I'll shed no tears I'll only keep on waiting If no one cheers Well, I can keep on waiting Who cares how loud The silence rings You'll find me waiting in the wings (snarling) You guys couldn't take a hint? Now I gotta finish you.
ADIRA: Let her go, Hector.
Heh.
(gasps) Adira! And just so we won't be interrupted.
Ah! Now then (laughing) It's sad to see the once mighty Adira waste her life on a fool's dream.
Talk about wasting lives You and the brothers spent yours hiding something no one was even looking for.
The moon stone has the power to destroy the world.
Keeping its existence secret was the king's wish.
And to do anything otherwise is treason! I've seen the sun drop's power firsthand, Hector.
And so will you when we return to the Dark Kingdom.
That'll never happen.
I'm sorry it came to this, sister.
And now for the so called sun drop.
CASSANDRA: Leave her alone.
Brave child.
Stupid, but brave.
You want the sun drop? You gotta go through me first.
'Kay.
You wanna try that again? Well, come on.
(grunting) Tell me, lady-in-waiting what are you waiting for? Funny you should ask.
Cassandra! (sighs) The heart of Zhan Tiri's Tree.
Forgive me for unleashing the evil that sleeps within.
For King Edmund.
You hear that? Yeah, in my experience, growing rumbles never lead to good things.
All who enter the Great Tree of Zhan Tiri shall be destroyed! The tree! It's alive.
Do you remember when being chased by a rhino was the weirdest thing we had to do this weekend? Cass! Watch out.
Gotta watch that flank.
Cassandra! Hook! Eugene! Raps, wait.
You can't do that incantation again.
I don't have a choice, Cass.
Please, Raps.
That spear can kill it.
Let me try and grab it.
Trust me.
Eugene.
I have to do this.
No! Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free.
Whither and decay, end this destiny.
Break these earthly chains, and set the spirit free.
- Whither and decay, end this destiny.
- Rapunzel! Break these earthly chains Lance, go! - But, Princess - Now! I got this, Cass.
Go! You heard her.
Let's go.
No.
I'm not leaving her.
Raps, please let go.
Break these earthly chains I can't! - And set the spirit free.
- What are you waiting for? I can't control it.
Cass, no! I I could have stopped it.
You should have let me try.
HECTOR: Listen.
You're friend is right.
Adira is lying to you.
She She might have you think she's helping you to find your destiny, but if you go to the Dark Kingdom, you're doomed.
No! Rapunzel, stay on the path.
All our destiny's lie within you.
Adira! (Cass groaning) Oh, Cass.
Your hand.
Are you okay? Yes, I'm fine.
- Are you sure? - I said I'm fine.
But you're hurt.
I know.
But it won't happen again.
So, what now? CASSANDRA: It's your call, Raps.
This path has been laid out for me.
There is no turning back.
I am going to the Dark Kingdom.
