I think we're gonna go with Tom.
We've got Gavin Rossdale.
I'm looking for that voice that stops me and takes me away somewhere.
So far, I have two on my team Oh .
.
Truly and Max.
You can call me Al I feel like I have two superstars.
I'm really excited about them both.
I guess I have to introduce myself.
What are you doing? Will.
i.

I'm working my biceps out so I can go fight for you.
I have the best singer with Jason Jones.
.

I want to unearth the UK's next singing sensation.
Whoever wins this is gonna get a record contract with Polydor Records and that could be life-changing.
The UK is gonna birth a star.
Watch.
This is The Voice WOMAN: Go, Will! JENNIFER: Tom! Tom! AUDIENCE: Tom! Tom! Tom! Tom! What Come on! Tom kinda did an Elvis dab.
He was like I said one for the That's cos he was friends with Elvis.
He rubbed off on me.
I'm Zoe and I'm 21.
I'm Ebony and I'm 20.
And we are Capital B.
We met on day one of university.
We spend quite a lot of time together.
As a duo, I'd say we're very different.
I walk super fast and you walk really slow.
A lot of people say that.
People say that I eat slow, but - Yeah.
.
.
maybe I just do everything slow.
Everything slow, like a sloth.
You are like a sloth.
I'm very picky, especially in rehearsals.
Yeah, just cos I like to listen to nice things, not flat notes and Are you saying I'm flat? Just occasionally! No, no, no, no, no.
But it kinda works, I think.
Yeah.
Our differences make us get on even better.
Yeah, and we learn from each other, which is nice.
Never really done anything like this before and there's definitely some nerves, but I think nerves are good.
I think nerves show that you care and it just feels really good to be singing with Ebony.
Oh! That was nice, wasn't it? # Why should I feel discouraged # Why should the shadows come # Why should my heart feel lonely # And long for heaven and home # When Jesus is my portion? # A constant friend is He # His eye is on the sparrow # And I know He watches me # I sing because I'm happy # I sing because I'm free Come on! # His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me CAPITAL B: Hi! GAVIN: Thank you.
Hi, guys.
What are your names and where are you from? I'm Zoe.
I'm Ebony and we're both from Birmingham.
We go to Birmingham School of Acting.
Are you the same year? Yeah.
Well, we met on the first day of the course and sort of have been singing ever since together.
This is our first gig.
So, you guys woke up this morning, like, "We're gonna go to the blinds, we're gonna sing Eye on a Sparrow.
" "All right.
" "Ebony, you're not gonna wear the black choker, I'm gonna wear the black choker, cos it's really gonna create" Is that what you guys did? Pretty much, yeah.
I was trying to imagine how you came up with your outfit.
We'll get you one to match, if you want.
I have a black one.
There you go.
I just don't like showing my shoulders.
It's gonna get a lot of guys jealous! What made you two gravitate to each other? I actually didn't like her at first, but now I do.
How come you didn't like her at first? Why didn't I like her? Yeah, Ebony, why? You didn't know this, girl?! No, I don't know, the vibe just wasn't there, but now it is.
Now we're inseparable.
You suit one another, I can tell you that.
You guys look great.
You sing great together.
Thanks, Tom.
And the harmony is unusual, I think.
And he knows about 'unusual'! Well, yes.
No pun intended! But I love gospel music, so I loved the song that you picked.
I think it really did you justice and you brought something different to it, so that's what made me turn around.
You know, if you come on my team, we could get some great gospel songs, cos I know a lot of them and I've sung duets with all kinds of people, so it's endless Endless.
.
.
what you two can do, because you sound so good together.
You know, we could go anywhere you want to go.
Dinner! I can take you there! I'll take you there Come on! So that's it, that's what I have to offer you.
Thank you, Tom.
When I was sitting back there, without seeing you guys, I was thinking, "Man, this is Jennifer, this is Tom," but when you sang together and it lifted up, it lifted me up, I was like, "I've gotta turn, cos I love them.
" I think that the range, not only of your voices, but the range of the styles you could do, the way you could sing together and the way your voices blend and stuff like that, it was inescapable to turn.
I think you were fantastic.
Thank you very much.
Did you guys have someone in mind before you came here? We did.
JENNIFER: Who? BOTH: You! You know what, OK You know what, I'm here for you, babe.
Who would you pick? For you? Which one? Tom all day.
No offence, Gavin! Because he does have that gospel, soulful root and we're connected.
Now, let me explain myself to why I did not turn around.
I was waiting to feel that What are you doing? I'm sign languaging what you're doing.
I'm being your interpreter.
Oh, man! Let me just tell you this.
OK.
I'm glad you didn't turn your chair.
I'm gonna try and steal y'all from him later.
I'm doing your sign language! It sounded amazing and you girls look so beautiful! Thank you.
Can we just have a minute just to? OK, I think we've made a decision.
Here it comes.
Tom! Yeah! Yeah! That was really beautiful.
Go, Tom, go! Sorry, Gavin! It's all good, baby.
That was a tough battle right there.
The important thing is, they made it.
Yeah.
They made it because of you guys.
Yeah.
This might be you next doing the children's Voice.
Yeah.
It looks like you've got a cape on - Superman.
Will I get a turn? Yeah.
Gavin will.
Where's little David? There he is.
This is my son.
Hey, whizz-kid.
Hop in my chair.
Hop in my chair.
If you like somebody, you tell Mommy.
You say, "Mommy, hit the button," and we're gonna spin around.
You don't wanna spin around?! David! Yeah, it's kinda cool, right? I'm Chelsea, I'm 29 and I'm a mum from Liverpool.
I live with my husband Mark and my son Teddy, who's 15 months old.
We called him Teddy Rex, because I just love the name Teddy, but his dad was like, "That's too cute, so if he wants to toughen himself up a little bit, he can be T-Rex.
" Having Teddy has just been amazing.
It's like when you score a goal - it's incredible! Chelsea's a fantastic mother.
We're always laughing, the two of us.
I think that's what makes things work.
Liverpool, as a city, is just vibrant.
It's absolutely the right place for me to hone my singing.
Music is just everything to me.
The Voice has given me something that could make my dreams come true.
All I wanna do is sing and be a mum.
And a wife.
If I can give Teddy something to be proud of me for, something that he can look back and say, "Did you really do that, Mum?" then that would be pretty good.
# Vissi d'arte # Vissi d'amore # Quante miserie conobbi aiutai # Diedi gioielli della Madonna al manto # E diedi il canto agli astri, al ciel # Che ne ridean piu belli # Nell'ora del dolore # Perche, perche, Signor # Ah-h-h, ah Go! Come on! # Perche me ne rimuneri Come on, Will! Come on, Jen! .
.
cosi? Go! Go! Tom? That was amazing.
It was amazing.
But? I wouldn't know what to do with her.
Why didn't you turn, if you loved her so much? Cos I wanted you to turn, that's why! You wanna see what WE do with her.
I thought Will would have turned.
It was too It was too straight.
She was too operatic.
Yeah.
She was so pure.
I wouldn't be human if it wasn't disappointing that somebody didn't say, "That was amazing, I want you on my team.
" Beautiful voice, but what do you do with a voice like that? It's tough.
It's so tough.
Coaches, the next singer will be out in a few moments.
OK.
Did you ever have a job? I used to sell vacuum cleaners door to door in south Wales.
I would go and sell vacuum cleaners in the daytime in the same areas as I was singing in these clubs at night.
You were cleaning up! I was cleaning up! What did you do before you were massive? Straight out of high school, I had a record deal.
So you're the only professional from day one? My mom didn't know I had a record deal.
I was 16, came home with a $10,000 cheque, "Look, Ma!" Wow.
Mums are always very nervous.
She's so nervous! It means such a lot to him.
He's brilliant, he knows what he's doing.
Aw! Well, you are, and you know what you're doing, so I shouldn't be nervous for him, but I will be and I probably won't breathe until he's finished singing.
I'm Charlee Drew, I'm 28 and I'm from Leicester.
When I was two, my mum bought me a guitar and it's just always been music, music, music.
After I left school, I put some stuff on the internet and then Skepta heard it.
I ended up writing a song and producing a song for Skepta and went on two tours with him.
I opened for people like James Arthur, I went on tour with 5ive.
I was lucky, but you're thinking, "I wish these people were here to see me.
" I moved to London to just bang on some doors.
I spend basically all of my time in the studio to just try and make records constantly.
More often than not, I end up pulling my sofa bed out and going to sleep here.
You've come a long way since you used to stand under the light and say you were Pavarotti.
I'm so proud of Charlee and I love him so much.
I know how much it means to him and it means so much to me that he gets what he wants.
This industry's so hard and it's so draining to keep having doors shut in your face, but if this works, there's a record deal on the table.
The opportunity is there for somebody to do what they dream of and hopefully it might be me.
Breathe.
Breathe, breathe.
# Grips on your waist, front way back way # You know that I don't play # The street's not safe, but I never run away # Even when I'm away # OT, O # There's never much love when we go O # I pray I'll make it back in one piece # I pray, I pray # And that's why I need a one dance # I've got a Hennessey in my hand # One more time 'fore I go # Higher powers taking a hold on me # I need a wah-ooh-whoo-whoo-whoo # One dan-dan-dan-dan-dance now # One more time 'fore I go # Higher powers taking a hold on me # Baby # I like your style # Yeah, oh, yeah # Strength and guidance # Is all that I'm wishing for my friends # Nobody makes it from my ends # So I had to bust up the silence # And that's why I need one dance # I've got a Hennessey in my hand # One more time 'fore I go # Higher powers, they're taking a hold on me # I need a wah-ooh-whoo-whoo-whoo # One dan-dan-dan-dan-dance now # One more time 'fore I go # They're taking a hold on me # Baby I like your style, yeah Oh, I'm so happy for you! That was great.
What's your name? My name's Charlee Drew.
Where are you from? I'm from a place called Leicester.
I've heard of Leicester - I'm English.
We won the Premiership.
I say 'we' - I had NOTHING to do with it.
That was great.
That was great.
What's your story in music? I started off as a singer and I spent a long time trying to do that and I ended up deciding I was gonna work on song writing and producing, cos finding producers to work with when you're first starting as a singer is difficult, so I learnt, myself, how to produce.
That's smart.
Same with me.
Everybody in the studio all the time was telling me, "You should really sing.
" I thought, "Well, why not give it one last shot at singing?" That was a really brave, really brave song to do.
First off, you sound really English and we're trying to find a superstar from the UK, so to me, I could just hear the English in you.
I really like that.
You are really singular and kinda fearless.
What I've been trying to do on the team I have is have every single singer sound like themselves and you'd be a fantastic addition.
Thank you very much.
So, I feel like a bonehead for not turning around.
There's gonna a point in time in the show where somebody, like, has to be stolen.
You know, I would steal you.
So I've got dibs on steals.
I mean, you should have turned around, though.
I should have turned.
If I could rewind it, it would look like this.
Yeah.
But congratulations on the show.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
What about gigging? What about doing shows? This is the first show I've played in two years.
Wow! Your vocal talent is excellent.
Thank you so much.
From you, that means a lot.
You have great control.
It's not exactly falsetto, it's almost like a yodel.
A yodel? Yeah, like yodellers do.
I'm not saying that you - He's gonna have you in lederhosen next! You shouldn't be yodelling, but it's different.
So, I'd love you to be on my team.
Thank you so much.
This is so tough.
I mean, for me, you're a musician and I play guitar and piano - You play the piano AND guitar, too? Yeah.
That's a damn shame! That I didn't turn around! But .
.
my family are massive Tom Jones fans.
You've gotta start making your own decisions.
Now's your chance to stand up and you be you.
Tom, I'd love to be on your team.
You've got it! Thank you, mate.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, thank you.
Great! Thank you.
Congratulations.
WILL: See you later! He's different.
He's got a Yeah, he's fantastic.
You were brilliant.
You really were brilliant.
Thank you.
What are you looking for? I'm looking for someone that is gonna just reach through this chair and just force me to spin around.
I want the undeniable.
What about you, Jennifer? Just this big voice that's just gonna send me down.
It sounds like a pitch battle.
You better know, Gavin.
All right, let's see what we're gonna get.
People don't listen to this kind of music very much.
It's gonna be very different.
I'm Georgie Braggins, I'm 21 and I run my own teaching practice, doing singing, piano and saxophone.
Good! Perfect! It's lovely seeing kids listening to proper music and being the influence that means they can do that.
That's brilliant! Well done! I grew up surrounded by music.
My grandma introduced me to jazz and that became my passion.
There aren't many people who are still carrying on that jazz tradition today.
But I would like to go out on that stage and hopefully get a chair turn and encourage jazz to live on.
# Every time # We say goodbye # I die a little # Every time # We say goodbye # I wonder why a little # Oh, but when you're near # There's such an air # An air of spring about it # And I can hear # A lark somewhere # Begin to sing about it # And there's no love so finer # But how strange the change # From major to minor Nice.
# Every time We say goodbye Thank you.
Hello.
What's your name? I'm Georgie Braggins.
You have an old soul.
Thank you.
You love jazz like that? Yeah.
I'm a massive jazz fan.
Right now, I'm foolish, because I should have turned round.
You should have! Y'all don't know me well, but when I'm at home, I like to light candles and listen to the type of sound you had and it took me into that place.
I do not feel there is enough of it around today.
Even when I have off time, I go to jazz clubs and just sit and listen to beautiful music.
I didn't have to go nowhere today, cos you up there singing away! Thank you.
Hopefully that inspires you to come over to Team JHud! Thank you.
Take it away, Tom.
OK.
Thank you.
You have a lovely voice and the only reason I didn't turn around was I don't think I could help you much in that genre of music.
But I loved what you did.
All singers should sing what they really feel.
Mm-hm! And you feel it, so stick with it.
Thank you.
The reason I turned around was because there was so much truth in the way you sing.
I don't have a massive history in jazz, but I wanted to tell you that I love you.
Oh, wow! Thank you! So do I.
But over here at JHud Productions .
.
the reason why I turned around was so that you have that star power to give jazz that presence in today's youth that it deserves.
And so here, with that being said, JHud, the president of JHud Productions, would like you to know we support you as you are for who you are and we want you to be your best self.
Thank you! JHud for president, right? You have to make the decision.
You have ten seconds.
I think uh Ten, nine .
.
I'm gonna choose .
.
eight, seven, six .
.
Team Hudson, it's gotta be.
Yes! You continue to do you, don't let nobody tell you different, because you are amazing.
Thank you.
You could hear her passion and her care for the genre of music, and it's a sound that's needed today.
I'm absolutely thrilled! I picked Jennifer, because she was just so passionate about the way I sounded.
JHud for president! For president! I'm just so glad to give someone like her this opportunity.
I lost my pitch, but I think she found the right place.
There's been some good singers.
Yeah! I bet the ones back there now are thinking, "Well, Jesus!" You can see the chairs! Oh! My name is Jamie Miller, I'm 19 years old and I'm from Cardiff.
I first started singing in primary school.
He'd come in from school, upstairs, bedroom - singing, dancing, floorboards shaking.
And that was it, every day.
Singing wasn't the coolest thing to do in high school.
All my mates have always been rugby and football lads, so being the singer of the group, I was embarrassed.
I actually did stop singing for a while.
When I was around 14 years old, I did a cover of Use Somebody by Kings of Leon.
One of my friends posted it online and it got, like, 25,000 views in a day.
That was just amazing, cos everybody knew what I wanted to do.
His passion is just unbelievable.
He wakes up with a smile now and we just back him 100%.
Because you're my boy, I feel 10ft tall.
My dad is such a wimp! He cries all the time when he hears me sing.
It's quite embarrassing.
Crying already! Don't, cos I'll start crying! The support I get off my family is so incredible! Come on, son, you can do this.
I am really nervous, I'm not gonna lie.
This is one of the biggest things I've ever done.
This is where my dreams could come true, my life could change, if the coaches just believe in me.
There he is there.
# From walking home and talking loads # To seeing shows in evening clothes with you # And now we're sleeping at the edge # Holding something we don't need # All this delusion in our heads is gonna bring us to our knees # So come on, let it go # Just let it be # Why don't you be you, and I'll be me? # Come on, let it go # Just let it be # Why don't you be you # And I'll be me? # Yeah, everything that's broke # Leave it to the breeze # Why don't you be you # And I'll be me? And I'll be me, yeah Wow.
What's your name? My name is Jamie Miller.
How old are you? I've just turned 19.
AUDIENCE: Aw! Wow.
I wanna know from you - what are you looking for in a coach? I didn't even come here expecting a turn.
Have your moment, take your time.
Erm Just someone who believes in me.
Erm Just someone who believes in me and just be there to help me along the way.
Wow.
I totally understand how you feel and you would definitely have that support over here on Team JHud.
I just wanna share that with you.
Thank you so much.
Well .
.
I'm sorry I didn't turn.
I was almost there.
I'm regretting it, because you're an excellent singer.
So don't worry about anybody believing in you, because I'm sure everybody in this room believes in you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Tom.
Jamie, you made me turn super quick, and I wanted a team of artists.
My team shouldn't be called Gavin, it should be Team Picasso and I need someone like you.
I believe in you, I understand you and I think you're a star.
Thank you so much.
So you'd be great on my team.
Jeez, Gavin! Team Picasso, that's pretty awesome.
I wanna stress to you that it was your voice that made me turn the button.
Mine, too! Me, too! Can I say something very quick? Yeah.
Where do you get your soul from? I don't really know, cos my family's tone deaf, so they can't sing.
Your parents Yeah? .
.
I wanna meet them, because you seem, like, very well-mannered, kind.
My dad's just gonna cry.
Mom! Dad! Oh, he's I'm so thankful you two both turned around.
The person I pick .
.
is Jennifer.
Oh! I understand every single tear you're crying.
I've got you.
You're in good hands.
You're great.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Just so thankful.
It's just an amazing opportunity.
Take that, Gavin! Don't mess with Team JHud now! I thought I gave him a pretty good pitch.
It's not fair - you're too beautiful.
He was mesmerised by you.
You should do it with the chair turned round.
Team Picasso is not a threat to JHud.
We're not painting pictures, we ARE the picture, OK? I need some luck! Can you sing? I've got a good idea - maybe you should download The Voice app.
Here's a game you should play - play the I Want You coach game.
Watch the latest performances from the show and become The Voice super fan.
Unwrap this app now.
I turned first, but he wanted you.
There you go.
Tell them, Gavin.
The last guy was tremendous, no doubt about it.
Not only did I turn, I was shut down twice.
Ha, ha.
I'm Carter, I'm 29, I'm from Billingham in Teesside.
I first started singing when I was 13 in school.
I got a call off a lad and said, "I've got a band, we need a singer.
Can you sing Believe In A Thing Called Love?" I said, "Yeah.
" Went round for a practice, I was horrendous.
But as we gigged and done it more, I just improved.
I've had several jobs and nothing compares.
It's always been music, it's always been that way.
I love singing in a band - it's like the safety net sort of thing.
When it's just you, it's more nerve-wracking.
I need to break that confidence barrier to be able to let loose and be that front man.
Yeah, this'll be the biggest day of my life so far.
You've got to take the risks.
I'd rather do it and fail than not do it and wonder.
# I could stay awake # Just to hear you breathing # Watch you smile while you are sleeping # While you're far away and dreaming # Every moment spent with you is a moment I'll treasure # Don't wanna close my eyes # I don't wanna fall asleep # Cos I miss you, baby # And I don't wanna miss a thing # Cos even when I dream of you # The sweetest dream will never do # I still miss you, baby # And I don't wanna miss a thing # I don't wanna miss one smile # I don't wanna miss one kiss # I just wanna stay here in this moment # For all the rest of time # Yeah, yeah, yeah # Don't wanna close my eyes # I don't wanna fall asleep # Cos I miss you, baby # And I don't wanna miss a thing Gavin! Come on! # Cos even when I dream of you # The sweetest dream will never do # I still miss you, baby And I don't wanna miss a thing Wow! Oh, my God, that was amazing.
What's your name? My name's Carter.
How old are you? I'm 29.
Where are you from? Middlesbrough, Teesside.
I'm gonna get to the point why I think you should join me.
One - because I know who wrote that song.
I could call her up right now and she could make your very own version of that song, Diane Warren.
That's tempting! And I know what it's like to be a contestant, trying to get to, I guess, where I am today, and I can get you there, babe.
Thank you very much.
They don't know like I know.
They don't know.
I know Diane Warren as well, you know.
You do? Of course.
Yes.
I recorded one of her songs once.
OK.
Yes, sir.
I'm not gonna argue with Tom! That's a big song to take on, but you gave it your own thing and if you wanna be in the business for any length of time That's not fair! I think you have a very powerful voice and it sounds to me like you could go in a lot of different directions.
Thank you very much.
OK.
I've gotta say well done.
Thank you.
I think you're dangerous.
I think your voice is so dynamic, I think you look incredible.
Thank you.
I think it makes a lot of sense to work with me, because clearly we've been on the same path for a long time.
It's not like to choose me is that I only listen to rock music and make you sing rock songs - for me, it's either good music or bad music.
I think you'll have a good time with me.
You should be proud of yourself.
Thank you.
And one final thing - I don't need Diane Warren to write a hit for you.
Just saying! The temperature is getting hot! Smoking red buttons! So now it's your turn to choose.
Uh-oh! You're traitors! I can show you how your voice can go beyond.
It's not just singing a song on this stage, but I sing for every facet and form of a stage - from Broadway, your house, your house, your church, your wedding, to the Oscars, to the Grammys.
Honey, where are you trying to go? Gavin.
My man.
Thank you.
It's a good fit.
It's a good fit.
I think it's right.
I'm so proud of you.
So, so proud of you.
He's powerful! I've got a stallion! I've got a stallion! I love you, too.
Now scream my name louder next time! That was a good pitch battle! It got a little intense and hot.
Yeah.
I wanted him bad, but .
.
Gavin swooped in there and stole him from me.
I'm really enjoying myself, and I've just begun.
I was hoping that I could get all of you to be the Von Trapps and you could have all sung along with her.
Knock them dead, cos we're rooting for you.
You can do this! Can't she? She can do it! ALL: Yes! My name's Shannon Kitchen, I'm 18 years old and I'm a singer from Bristol.
So, at the moment, I busk in and around Bath.
It doesn't seem like the most glamorous thing to do, but I've made it glamorous, because I dress in evening gowns.
When I put on my dresses, I feel amazing, because I'm not just Shannon, I'm the singer, I'm on my stage and I'm doing what I love to do.
I've got a great relationship with my mum - she's my best friend.
Oh, yes! She's pretty much my mum-ager.
I love helping her choose her dresses for her gigs.
I do prefer this one.
She's like my Gok Wan.
It's nice and flat on your tummy.
Yeah.
It has kind of become a little bit of an addiction for myself, as well as her.
It'd be nice on me.
I couldn't do without her.
When Shannon walks out on that stage, I am .
.
going to be overjoyed and amazed and give her so much love and luck.
Oh, dear! I am proud.
When people say to me, "Do you think you've got what it takes to step out on the big stage?" I say, "Yes, bring it on!" # Roxanne # You don't have to put on that red light # Those days are over # You don't have to sell your body tonight # Roxanne # You don't have to wear that dress tonight # Walk the streets for money # You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right # Roxanne # You don't have to put on the red light # Roxanne # You don't have to put on the red # I know my mind is made up # Ooh, so put away your make-up # I told you once, I won't tell you again # It's a bad way Ro-o-o-o-o-oxanne Thank you.
Man, she was good.
I was as close as I could get without turning.
You were amazing.
Well done, kid.
You done so well! Well done.
She's one of my regrets.
It didn't take me away.
Yeah.
AUDIENCE: Oh! I'm tough.
So tough.
He's the one - point at him! This means we are really critical right now, because we're looking for, like, fire! Fire, fire, fire! Real fire! That hottest fire that we've seen, fire.
'Fire' spelt F-Y-YAH - fyah! Yes! We're in good shape.
You've got a good team.
I think I do, too.
Yeah.
My four is strong.
You have one.
I've got a soul singer who's got, like, soul in a bowl, out of control, make you say, "Whoa.
" How many have you got? I've got three.
Gavin? Three.
OK, stand by.
Here we go.
I smell fire! My name is Ben Furneaux, I'm 40 years old and I'm from Bristol.
I live with my wife Ailis and my two sons.
Me and Ailis have been together forten years.
Ailis! We've been together for 11 years? AILIS: Since 2004.
13 years! Me and Ailis have been together for 13 years.
She's immensely supportive of my singing.
It's nice that someone wants you to sing.
Fantastic! I work for a company called Bristol Steel and I've been there for 15 years now.
It's a good job, but my passion is singing.
How old are you? Oh, me, too! Isn't it good? Isn't it good being 40? Oh, yeah.
Is that motivation for you to pursue music? Definitely.
It's almost like I'm getting to a point where if I don't go for it, maybe I never will.
Yeah.
I've always loved music - I've sung in various bands, everything from folk, heavy metal, I even did some hip-hop.
Yeah, hip-hop.
This is the biggest thing that I've ever done and it is pretty terrifying.
I love the fact it's a blind audition - I'm not body confident at the moment.
I've put on a few stone .
.
and developed man erm Anyway.
It is all about how you sound.
I would love one of those coaches to turn.
If I could make music for a living, it'd just be amazing, wouldn't it? # Trouble # Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble # Trouble's been dogging my soul since the day I was born # Worry # Worry, worry, worry, worry # Worry just will not seem to leave my mind alone # Well, I've been saved by a woman # Well, I've been saved by a woman # Well, I've been saved # By a woman # She won't let me go # She won't let me go, yeah # Well, she's good to me now # She gives me love and affection # Because I love her # Yes, I lo-o-o-ove # Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm No! Mm-mm-mm What?! Yeah.
He was good.
He was really good.
He was real good.
That was close.
He was so good.
I'm gobsmacked.
He was amazing! We're tough today, guys.
He was good, though.
He was close.
It was close.
But you've gotta be sure, you know.
At this point, obviously disappointed, you know.
In the back of your mind, you hope they turn around, but I suppose they're looking for specific voices and I wasn't that voice today.
You were saying that you needed a male vocalist.
Yeah, but I've got a couple already.
Yeah, yeah.
His voice is beautiful.
Because I've got Carter, you know, so I've got that covered.
They should have turned for him.
It would be nice, wouldn't it, to get that turn, someone to go, "I think you're great, come and join me.
" It's why we're here.
WOMAN: Fire! Whoever's coming up next, if you can hear me back there, don't be nervous! Just bring that fire! Fire! Fire! You've gotta put that in a song.
Fire! We could do Great Balls of Fire.
Come on! OK! # You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain # Too much love drives a man insane # You broke my will, but what a thrill # Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire # I laughed at love, cos I thought it was funny # You came along and moved me, honey # I've changed my mind, this love is fine # Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire # Kiss me, baby # Whoo, feels good # Hold me, baby # Why don't you let me love you like a lover should? # You're fine, so kind # I want to tell the world that you're mine, mine, mine, mine # I chew my nails and I twiddle my thumbs # I'm real nervous, but it sure is fun # Come on, baby, drive me crazy Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire Yeah! OK, this is our very, very last act of the evening.
Uh-oh.
Here we go, guys.
I'm nervous, but I'm ready to do it.
My name's Michelle John, I'm 43 and I'm a backing singer.
I'd go to church every Sunday morning and from a very young age started singing in the choir.
When I was about 16, Songs of Praise came to my church and some producer said, "Can I get that girl to come and sing on this dance track?" It just opened up a whole other world of professional singing, backing vocals, all of that.
Being a backing vocalist has been amazing.
I've been very, very lucky, I've worked with some amazing people, but I feel like it's time for me to be me now.
I live at home with my son.
His name's Carlos, he's 18.
He's lovely.
He's my bodyguard.
When I see my mum on stage, it's inspiring.
My mum's amazing.
Just smash it, kill it.
Make sure all of them turn around, forget ONE of them! The reason for me to be here is I wanna have the moment of being Michelle.
I'm 43 now and I feel like now is the time.
I wanna make myself proud first, my son, my family, that's it.
You're so used to doing everything for everyone else, which is great, I'm not complaining, it's wonderful, but then you kind of need a minute to sort of find who you are.
Do I go out now? I'm not singing the ooh's and ah's - that's easy, I can do that.
Now, it's showing who I am.
It's a big risk.
It is a big risk.
# This is a man's world # Mm, mm, mm # But it would be nothing # Nothing # Without a woman or a girl # Mm-mm-mm-mm # Man made the car # To take them over the road Sing, girl! Come on, Jennifer! # Man made the train # To carry the heavy load # Man made the electric lights # To take us out of the dark # Man made boat for the water # Just like Noah made the ark # But it's a man's world # But it would be nothing # Without woman or girl # Ooh # Ooh, ooh # Ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh # Yea-ea-ea-eah Ye-e-e-e-eah Hello.
What's your name, love? Michelle.
How old are you? 43.
43?! You're 43?! Don't turn back around! Stay there, stay there.
No, it's all good.
I can't see it.
Well, you don't look like you're 43.
Not that 43 is old! Believe me! Wow! And you have a tremendous voice.
Thank you, sir.
When you started it off, it sounded like a lot of other people would sing it, but then you were hitting some big, powerful notes there and .
.
I should have pressed the button.
It means a lot coming from you.
Yes, you should have.
We love you anyway.
The reason why I turned is because you were showing us everything you're made of.
Your voice grabbed me, came out and pushed the button.
I didn't push the button, you pushed it.
You hijacked me.
Which is great! My question I have to ask you is - did you record a lot? I'm a backing singer.
OK.
So, where have you been? You've been background singing for who? Eric Clapton.
Eric Clapton? Yeah.
Damn! Keep going.
Yeah.
Will Young.
Do you know Will Young? Mm-hm.
Joss Stone.
That's me, I'm young.
Keep going.
Annie Lennox.
Annie Lennox? OK, keep going.
Oh, man! Sweet Dreams, over here, let's go.
You know, a few.
That's awesomeness.
But you have too much power - you have so much range, but if we could just dial it back, whoo, you're smoking! But what I loved about it was the amount of effort you put in.
Right when it was down to two seconds, I was like, "I can't not turn.
She has all the ingredients, just too much.
" Which is great! I'd rather have a whole lot than a little bit.
And you've got a whole lot! I'm so glad that you did not slip through the cracks, because we need voices like that.
And it's funny you said she's too much - I was told the same thing when I was on that stage, "Everything about you is too much.
" But, hey, that's what a superstar is, too much, right? That's why you're a superstar.
And you're beautiful! Can I ask one question? I'm intrigued, what made you wait until now to come forward to shine? I love my job, I've worked with the best people, but I just felt, and not in an ungrateful way, but it's just my time - I wanna have a chance of singing my own song.
That's great.
Welcome to The Voice.
Thank you very much.
Yes! Whoo! She's got some chops! She can sing! She can sing! I was gonna come and press your button for you.
You should have! I should have.
She almost went to that whistle.
That teapot was about to go But that's when I was like, "I cannot not turn.
" I'm so glad you did.
She'll be great.
I love you, too.
Thank you, guys, so much.
Those are all the singers for this session.
Did you have a good time, though? It's such a different energy, it's such a different responsibility being at the front and it feels brilliant, and it feels good for me to have that moment.
So I'm hoping that this won't be the last one.
