Top Shot (2010) s01e06 Episode Script

Wild, Wild West

Nice shot, Andre.
Red team's back on its feet.
It feels really good.
My alliance is with Chris and iain and Tara.
Donaldson: Meanwhile, the blue team turns on each other.
You're all guilty of conspiracy.
Adam: That's a bunch of [Bleep.]
Did you say that? I'm done with you, you rat fink.
It got a little heated.
Donaldson: After two straight losses, can the blue team rebound? Adam wins the challenge! Tara: Holy cow! Yeah! Problem solved the Captain furious episode is now complete.
Donaldson: There are shots that changed history Feats of legendary skill and extreme precision.
Now 16 of today's best marksmen have been chosen.
They come from all over the country and from all walks of life Amateurs and professionals Military, recreation, and exhibition shooters.
Each shows the timeless skills of a true marksman Not just with one weapon with any weapon.
They will compete in a series of challenges until only one remains, earning the $100,000 prize and the title of "top shot.
" Captioning provided by man: Whatever.
It's Man #2: Came home sick.
It looks like Kevin made it.
He's smiling.
All right.
Come on in.
Yeah! [ Laughter .]
Whoa! Blake: We're putting the past in the past.
But my eyes are open.
Adam's already stuck one knife in both j.
J.
And Andre's back.
And I'm just watching to see if he tries to stick another one in there.
But hopefully this is all behind us, and we're good to go as a team, and we'll perform well.
And next to the wall of fallen heroes.
Donaldson: Come on in.
Morning, gang.
Morning.
All: Morning, Colby.
Thanks.
I liked that.
The next team challenge is inspired by one of the most iconic eras in American history, the wild west.
And the defining weapon of that time period was without a doubt the colt peacemaker.
Unlike muzzle-loading muskets, guns like the peacemaker changed everything because of this the cartridge.
Marksmen could now shoot and reload far faster than ever before.
And that is exactly what we're gonna test next your speed.
Denny: I saw that gun sitting there, and I said, "great.
" I've used this type of gun in competition for many years, and this is my opportunity to contribute some knowledge to my teammates.
Joining us now is historical-weapons expert Spencer hoglund, who is a four-time world champion speed shooter.
Spencer's here to help you guys prepare for the challenge.
He'll be giving you pointers on firing fast with this legendary weapon.
Good luck.
I'll see you at the challenge.
Man: Good luck, gentlemen.
Man #2: Ladies first.
Hoglund: Single-action revolvers were as common as cellphones are today.
They were viewed as tools.
They were used as tools.
And very often, the cowboys or the frontiersmen, whoever had them, rarely left home without them.
Blake: The ptols that I normally shoot are semi-automatic, modern handguns.
Ah.
But with this thing, you got only five to six rounds, and you got to manually work the action.
Your hand is too high on the grip frame.
Yeah.
And that's why it's not cocking back all the way.
One way to guarantee that that doesn't happen is to get your right pinkie under the grip frame.
Clear to fire.
Yeah.
And when you're done shooting, you got to unload it, each cylinder, manually.
So it's a little more work, and you got to know what you're doing with your hands.
They're not user-friendly.
[ Gunshots .]
Nice grip.
Damn.
Tara: I know the blue team has a lot more handgun shooters, so that hopefully will put us at the advantage tomorrow.
The red team has a lot more rifle shooters, so that gave them the advantage the last few days.
Man, I don't think I've ever been so uncomfortable yet.
Where'd it hit? Right.
You kidding me? Chris: I got to tell you, I haven't been uncomfortable with really anything in this competition until now.
I just screwed that up.
The way you hold your hands is different from anything I've done.
The way you run the trigger is different from anything I've done.
The way the sights look is different from anything I've done.
[ Exhales sharply .]
I sat the last challenge out.
I'm gonna be in this one for sure.
So I need to make sure I'm on my game.
Gentlemen, good morning.
Who's first? Denny: My first gun as a kid was not a red ryder bb gun.
It was a replica of a colt.
45 cowboy gun a peacemaker.
High left.
You know, it's always nice to shoot something you're familiar with, because I came into this competition not shooting any of these guns in the last 10 years.
And finally this is a gun that I've had in my hands up to the last day before I flew in for this competition.
Let me check it out.
Nicely done, Pete.
Good shooting.
Man: Yeah, that was good, Pete.
Nice shooting gun.
Peter: I own one, and so does Denny.
And nobody on the other team has one.
Even though they are pistol shooters, we're pretty excited about it.
It should be an equalizer.
Andre: Kind of old-school.
I'm not 100% confident with it right now.
Your pointed aim is 1 inch low, 2 inches right.
Brad: I think red team looked excellent.
Everybody seemed pretty comfortable with the weapon, even people like Kelly, who don't have a lot of experience with pistols, were shooting really, really close, tight groups.
Take care.
Very nice to meet you.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help, Spencer.
Good to meet you.
Chris: All right, obviously I'm the weak link on this one.
What are we gonna do? Chris: I was definitely probably the lowest performer in practice today.
I want to go first.
Man: Okay.
I'm volunteering for it.
Unless somebody doesn't want me to go.
I teach law-enforcement officers in the military, and I want to be confident that what I'm teaching is right and that it works.
Shoot fast, no.
Man: No.
But I can shoot, and I don't break under pressure.
People got to believe in me.
They got to be able to look at me and say, "listen, I want to learn from that guy.
Gosh, he's good.
" And I'm gonna be on tv either doing it right or screwing the pooch.
Oh, yeah! Tara: These look like the arcades.
Denny: Walking up to the challenge, I was excited.
It was an old west saloon.
Even had a hitching rails in front and a gazillion little targets there to shoot at.
This is gonna be great fun, a cowboy shooting gallery.
Come on in here, teams.
Welcome to the team challenge.
Today we're gonna have a good old-fashioned shooting gallery.
[ Gunshot .]
Out on the range behind me are 50 targets of all different shapes, sizes, and distances.
Team members take turns firing 10 rounds and reloading once.
The team to shoot all 50 targets in the quickest time wins.
Blue team, since you guys still have an extra member, someone's got to sit out.
Red team, who's it gonna be? It's gonna be Blake.
Man: [Bleep.]
Blake, the blazing cajun, is sitting this one out.
Let's get to it.
I'll give both teams a minute to strategize, and then we'll go.
Chris is up first, correct? But I think we should look at top to bottom for the challenge.
Man: Left to right.
From left to right.
The blue team's strategy going into the challenge is to keep it in bulks, keep them in sectors of fire.
We didn't want to go all over the place and shoot random targets, whatever we see.
We got extra eyes.
I'll do that.
We got cajun eyes.
J.
J.
: We decided we were just gonna shoot left to right, from top to bottom.
And Blake being the odd man out, he was just gonna call out targets that he didn't see or we didn't see.
You want to go get three strongest people? We should go strongest first.
I was thinking that, too.
Peter: When we put our three best shooters up front, it would have been Denny, Brad, and me, you know, so that if we missed some, on the second rotation, we'd be able to hit them.
Okay, I'll be third, you be fourth, you be fifth? That's fine.
Donaldson: Red team, bring it back in.
For this team challenge, you will be using the legendary colt peacemaker.
Let's get this show on the road.
I wouldn't go so far as to say this is my challenge, but I will be a strong team member for red team in this challenge.
Donaldson: Coming up on "top shot" Man: Yeah! She's taking them all out! [ Laughter .]
Brad, with his second load, hits all five targets.
Marksmen ready.
SetGo! Chris first up for the blue team.
Getting the old peacemaker loaded.
Man: Yeah! First shot hits.
Whoo! Second shot.
Third shot hits.
Fourth shot hits.
Fifth! Chris is five for five.
Now reloading.
Tara: Keep going, buddy.
Blue team off to a good start.
Hit.
Another strike.
Chris making it look easy.
Yeah! Chris: During practice yesterday, my confidence level was low.
I had 10 for 10.
I had 10 hits, 10 targets, all sizes, all shapes.
Donaldson: Tara connects with her first shot.
Second shot is a hit.
Third shot's a hit.
Man: Yeah! Fourth shot.
She's taking them all out! [ Laughter .]
Tara moving on to the reload.
Tara connects with her shot.
Again.
Man: Yeah.
Tara's 10 for 10.
All 10 bullets finding their targets.
Blue team off to a good start.
Adam with the first miss.
Second shot's a miss.
But he hits on his third shot.
Having trouble with that skinny bottle on the hitching post.
Something else.
Get something else.
Connects! There you go! J.
J.
'S up for the blue team.
Man: Get the targets on the left.
Finish them.
Tara: Nice, j.
J.
J.
J.
Takes out the target that Adam struggled with.
Back to the middle of the shooting gallery.
Man: Yeah! J.
J.
'S just ringing them now.
Iain: Blue team did pretty good.
We dropped a couple shots, but other than that, we ran the gun pretty hot.
First shot hits.
Secovd shot on target.
Third shot connects.
Fourth shot hits.
Fifth shot hits.
Start at the top.
Work your way down.
Blue team using a little teamwork, calling out the targets that are still up on the range.
He is back up and firing.
Very quick reload.
And he connects.
Second shot.
Third shot hits.
Fourth shot.
Iain, with his second load, hits all five targets.
Chris, back on the range.
Chris: Since we didn't have all our hits, we had a few misses, I did come back up to the line.
Man: Yes.
Donaldson: Chris hits.
Second shot connects.
Third shot.
Fourth shot hits.
Fifth shot.
And that's it! Blue team finishes their round.
Chris: I was very excited with my performance today, so it's not too bad.
I was pretty proud.
Blue team, nice work.
Your official time is Yes! Yes! Whoo! Nice job.
Peter: When I saw the blue team go, it seemed like we definitely couldn't take our time, but it didn't seem insurmountable by any means.
I thought for sure when we were stepping up there we'd still totally get to shoot that, 'cause I was good shooting and so was Denny.
We all shot our targets real well, so I thought for sure it was within our grasp.
Marksmen ready.
SetGo! Denny first man up for the red team.
Loads the peacemaker.
A lot of time can be gained or lost in the loading and reloading.
First shot is a miss.
Second shot's a miss.
Third shot finally connects.
Fourth shot connects.
Fifth shot misses.
Denny reloads.
Off to a bit of a stumble.
Gonna have some time to make up here.
Go to the left! Denny struggling to hit.
Three misses.
Four misses in a row.
Five misses in a row! Denny really struggling.
Only shoots 2 out of 10.
Red team definitely has some time to make up.
Brad's on the range.
I was thinking shoot to the left.
That was me.
Too much finger.
Peter: First up, we have Denny, who probably shoots a peacemaker the most, and for whatever reason, he was not able to hit the target very accurately at all.
He missed a lot of shots.
Donaldson: Brad connects first shot.
Second shot misses.
Third shot hits.
Fourth shot connects.
Fifth shot.
Time to reload.
Brad reloaded, back on the course.
Hits with his first shot.
Second shot connects.
Third shot's a miss.
Fourth shot's a miss.
Fifth shot connects.
Brad hits 7 for 10.
Peter's on the course.
And Brad's shot, he shot a lot, but nowhere near as well as some of the people on the blue team.
I was like, "oh, no.
" Donaldson: Peter's loaded, and he hits with his first shot.
Second shot connects.
Third shot.
Three for three.
Fourth shot hits.
Man: That's five.
Peter goes five for five and now reloading.
Finally, red team getting a little rhythm going here.
Little different strategy for the red team.
They are all over the gally.
Just goes to show you what a plan will do.
Pete's reloaded.
Hitting.
Second one's a miss.
Third shot hits.
Fourth shot hits.
Fifth shot.
Peter: Hey, Andre, you're just gonna have to cock this.
You got it? Andre's up next.
Peter's got the gun loaded for him.
Andre goes.
Good shooting, Pete.
Andre Man: Cock it! Early fire by Andre.
Andre finally connects.
And connects again.
Another hit.
You're out.
Time to reload.
When you get up there, just take your time.
Connects.
Another miss.
Andre finally hits.
And again.
Andre: You know, I think I missed 4 out of 10.
And just it just wasn't good.
Kelly misses.
Again.
Man: Take your time! Peter: Kelly's performance was pretty atrocious.
I think maybe he shot three or four at most.
Donaldson: Second shot.
Third shot misses.
Peter: And I was like, "man, this is" you know, I knew we weren't gonna make it up from there.
A lot of targets left on the range.
Time! Brad, cease fire! That's it.
This challenge is over.
Blue team wins.
Good job, you guys.
It's official.
Man: Wow.
I thought I would never have thought.
No.
Wow.
I mean, the outcome of this peacemaker challenge was a very lopsided victory for blue.
Blue team, you guys are victorious.
Congratulations.
You can head back to the house.
You're all safe from elimination.
J.
J.
: The blue team was completely ecstatic that we won.
It solidified what we thought, that we were a strong team to begin with, and, you know, that conflict definitely brought a lot of good things out of us, and we definitely became more of a team, stronger than what we came in with.
Red team, you do have a couple of hours to decide who it's gonna be competing in the elimination challenge.
You can head back to the house.
I'll see you at the nomination range.
Denny: Personally, I sure didn't want to go out on the cowboy event, so, obviously, I'm disappointed in my performance.
If I end up going to the elimination challenge, I'm gonna do my darndest to pull it together and try to stay in the running for top shot.
Donaldson: Coming up on "top shot" Go to the left! The red team reveals what went wrong in the challenge.
By the time the damage was done, it was a little late.
Donaldson: Kelly misses.
We kind of just got off to a bad start.
Donaldson: And a return to the nomination range.
Red team, let's get to the vote.
You guys are tied, so we go to a tie breaker.
Oh, man.
Well, we just got back from the team challenge, and it didn't quite go the way we wanted it to.
I missed a lot of shots.
I have some time to make up here.
Go to the left! The gun that I shoot when I do mounted shooting has got a wide trigger on it, and, doggone it, you know, I'm used to having a little more finger on it.
Pulled all my shots to the left, and by the time the damage was done, it was a little late.
Andre: It just wasn't a good performance for the whole team.
I would say I missed four targets just rushing and just not applying the fundamentals as well as I should have.
Donaldson: Kelly misses.
Kelly: Denny he had a lot of misses and kind of maybe demoralized some of us, 'cause we kind of just got off to a bad start.
The gun was shooting straight for them in practice.
The shots hit for me and Brad.
Don't know what went wrong.
Soon as you guys are ready, I'd like to say something to everybody.
I definitely think Denny should be nominated based on the fact that he's the cowboy in the clan.
This should have been his event.
If I was Denny, I would be adamant about being nominated for this elimination challenge.
Can I say my part first? Peter: Sure.
Say whatever you want.
Sorry, guys.
I just couldn't I basically just couldn't break an old habit.
I just couldn't get I had too much finger on that trigger.
I promise you if you vote for me I will not hold it against you.
'Cause, you know, at first, I was gonna I really wanted to set the pace, and it didn't happen, so You know, there's a saying we have that you don't nobody rises to the occasion.
You just fall back on your level of training.
Yeah.
So when the time comes where there's stress, you're just gonna do what you always do.
Yeah.
That's what happened to me, and, you know, you guys vote for me, I deserve it.
That's all I got to say.
At least you know I'm not gonna vote for you.
Well, that's nice.
[ Chuckles .]
It's tough to say who did the worst on the red team, because Denny we had a lot of expectations for him, and he was up there twice, and so he missed the most.
But Kelly's one round up there was pretty bad.
And Andre didn't do too hot either.
It's tough, because on any given day, people have been successful, and people have been failures, too.
You know what I mean? Yeah.
Denny's got a solid mind.
He can handle it.
This is just an "oops.
" It was a huge "oops.
" I wouldn't want to put Denny up for a number of reasons, the first of which I'd be lying if I said it wasn't personal.
I really like Denny.
He's a very solid guy.
You know, I consider him a reliable teammate, and I don't think how he did today was an indicator of how good of a shooter he is overall.
I'm gonna talk to Andre.
Obviously, I've been on the chopping block a couple of times, so I kind of want to prevent that from happening again in this particular challenge.
Andre? Can I talk to you for a second? Yeah.
What's up? Talk in private? Not necessarily, but I'll let y'all talk.
I'll talk to you in a second.
Look, I don't have any reason to have to vote for you for this challenge, all right? So, I mean, I'm gonna put mine towards Kelly.
So if you do the same, I won't vote for you, you don't vote for me.
That's actually what I was thinking about.
So, think about that.
I'm down with that.
All right.
I agree.
I'd almost rather not know, but now that I know or I'm fairly sure a couple guys aren't gonna vote for me, sure, it's got me thinking a little bit.
Is it gonna affect my decision? Maybe a little bit, because I'm not ready to go home.
I got a lot more to offer here.
Red team, tough, tough day.
Denny, this was your challenge, my man.
What happened? Uh I didn't perform so well.
I went from here to here really quick.
Andre, what was going on with you today? Just the pressure.
I wanted to perform well for my team.
You know, it sucked not doing well, so Is that what it is with you guys? Is it the pressure of performing at these challenges? With the exception of maybe Peter, Brad Brad did okay you guys all struggled.
As a team, you struggled today.
Kelly, what is that? We had a mental issue.
Whatever we did, we did it, kind of coincidentally, all the same.
Donaldson: Let's get to the vote.
Brad, you're first.
Brad: There are a number of reasons that I'm voting for Kelly, the first of which is I think he was one of the, if not the weakest shooter today.
Kelly, that's one vote for you.
You're next.
Kelly: I'm voting for Denny based on team strength.
If I vote for Denny, then it's more likely that it's Denny and Andre that go up against each other rather than Denny and myself, or at least that's the way I see it.
One vote Kelly, one vote Denny.
Denny, it's your turn.
Denny: I'm in a little bit of a quandary, because I want to keep the team strong.
I'm looking at this challenge.
I'm looking at previous challenges.
But I'm also looking ahead to see who will benefit the team now and down the road.
That's two votes Kelly, one vote Denny.
Andre, it's your turn.
Andre: I shot at Kelly's target.
We said performance, and, you know, I shot at the person that didn't perform well.
I would have rather shot at my own target, but we couldn't do that.
One vote Denny, three votes Kelly.
Kelly, you will be competing in tomorrow's elimination challenge.
Peter, your turn to vote.
My selection today will be what's best for the team.
I'm looking at all the things we've shot in the past, and I'm also looking into the future, what we're gonna need in the future to keep us well-rounded and strong.
So, I think the challenge should be Kelly and Andre.
All right, guys.
Andre, Denny, you guys are tied, so we go to a tie break.
Those involved in the tie will not be involved in the tie break, which means, Brad, you and Peter your names are in this box.
I'm gonna pull one name out.
You will come up here and vote to decide who competes against Kelly in the elimination challenge.
Brad, come up here and decide between Denny or Andre.
Brad: I voted for Andre because I think that, you know, everybody's gonna have to shoot against somebody at some point, and, you know, it might as well be Andre shooting at something that I think likely involves a little bit more speed, judging by the nature of the competition today, and a shorter distance, which I think he has a distinct advantage.
I'm sorry, man.
Kelly, Andre, you two will go head-to-head in the elimination challenge.
I'll see both of you tomorrow morning at practice.
The rest of you, I'll see you at the challenge.
Head back to the house.
When Brad stepped up to the tie breaker, I knew he was gonna shoot my target.
If he went by performance, shooting my target would have been the next best thing to do.
I shook Kelly's hand.
I told him let's have some fun with it, and, you know, may the best man win.
Kelly: I was extremely surprised to see as many votes for me as I did.
So, you know, it's not what I would have wished for, but it is what it is, and I will be working hard tomorrow to stay back here.
Donaldson: Coming up on "top shot" Where the team challenge was all about speed, the elimination challenge is gonna be all about accuracy.
We happy? That's all right.
Adam: Gentlemen, what can you tell us? Andre: Me versus Kelly.
No kidding.
Denny, you didn't demand it? You didn't say, "I want redemption"? No, I didn't.
I told the guys if they voted for me, I'd be all right with it.
You know, I deserve it as much as anybody, and I squeaked by.
It's bittersweet for me, because, you know, I mean, look at me.
I'm a cowboy, you know.
I didn't perform like I should have with that gun, and I really kind of hoping.
But if you're hoping, you can demand it.
You can just say [Bleep.]
"I'm Denny c.
Chapman, world-famous equestrian.
I got to be in it to" you know.
I guess I could have done that, Adam, but I didn't.
Adam: Knowing how red team operates, it doesn't seem to have such a clear rhyme and reason that we understand.
Denny if he was on the blue team, he'd absolutely be there.
Either he'd do it or we'd make him do it just because he's the expert, he's their number-one gun in that event, and from the sidelines, it looked like he did the worst.
So, the best does the worst, boom in our world, you go in.
If I were Denny, I would have demanded it and said, "I am better than you saw, "and just for me to sleep tonight, I got to make it happen.
" Denny: Adam kind of got me second-guessing myself 'cause he wanted to know why I didn't demand to be put up at the elimination challenge, and, in a way, I do feel like I should have been nominated.
You know, this game is tough.
It's a whole lot more than just performance.
Here's the bottom line.
It is what it is.
What I said or didn't say is history good, bad, or otherwise.
I'm gonna cowboy up, and I'm gonna climb back in the saddle and pull that trigger again.
Andre: I'm currently stationed in South Korea, camp Humphreys.
I've given up all my leave to be here for this competition.
It was definitely a sacrifice in itself, because it takes away from time from me seeing my family.
But missing my family, that definitely weighs on your mind, but I'm here to compete, and my family, I know they support me, so I'm going in to win it, and it's just gonna be a good competition.
We'll see who comes out.
Donaldson: Morning, gentlemen.
Morning, Colby.
Kelly, Andre, the red team has decided the two of you will compete in the elimination challenge.
Both of you struggled with it during the team challenge.
Let's hope you worked it out, because you will still be using the colt peacemaker.
But where the team challenge was all about speed, the elimination challenge is gonna be all about accuracy.
The peacemaker was longer than any other pistol from that time, which made it even more precise.
Once again, our expert Spencer hoglund is back to work with you.
And fortunately for you guys, he's not only fast, he is incredibly accurate.
Kelly, you'll practice first.
Good luck.
I'll see you at the challenge.
How's it going? Good.
And yourself? Doing all right.
What the competitors are gonna be facing in this challenge is a lot more about accuracy and strategy than speed.
They will be shooting at smaller targets at 25 feet, which is well within the effective range of this pistol, but it's still gonna be a challenge for the shooters.
Hoglund: Little higher.
Remember, bury that front site in the rear site.
You don't want to expose too much.
Uh-huh.
Kelly: My first five shots kind of showed some issues I was having.
Make sure you're not pulling too hard with that trigger.
Okay.
You're a rifle shooter.
Remember, just squeeze it off.
It looks like you might be pulling left a little bit.
Okay.
So if you want to add a little bit more stability, you can use your left thumb against the shield right there just to try to stable the gun up a little bit more.
I'm not a speed shooter.
I don't claim to be, and I'm just not going to be.
An accuracy shooter, on the other hand, I am, and I can be.
For the remaining 10 shots, I was really able to dial in.
Right in the same hole.
That was a great shot, too.
I even put three shots in the same bullet hole.
Think that was right in the same hole again.
I think it is, too.
[ Chuckles .]
Are we happy? Yes.
That's all right.
A little high.
One thing you're gonna want to think about is the more of that front sight you see, the higher you're gonna shoot.
So you want to keep that front sight buried down.
I think that's my problem.
Yes.
Andre: The practice session, overall, went well.
Before, I was shooting too high because I was focused solely on the front sight post.
That was a good shot.
When you pull the hammer back, there's actually a groove where you can look down and actually see the front sight post so you can bury it a little bit.
And a lot of my shots were high, and once I figured that out, a lot of them were dead on.
That's a good one to end on, isn't it? Yeah.
I think that's gonna make a world of difference for me.
Kelly: If I lose today, then I will go home.
I'm not really ready to go home.
I don't have a lot of awesomeness waiting for me.
I got work, school.
And I'd really prefer to stay in this competition.
I feel I've got what it takes to stay in there for the long haul, and I hope that I can show that today in the elimination challenge.
Andre: I'm not ready to go home.
I'm going to compete and hopefully win.
But if it happens, you know, I'll be upset, but I get to go home to my family, but I'm going out to win.
I'm not going out to lose.
Well, here we are at the elimination challenge.
Kelly, Andre, I need you guys to step right over here, please.
Fellas, for the elimination challenge, we're gonna play a game that was very popular in the old west poker.
Here's how it's gonna work.
The rules are just the same as regular poker.
But instead of drawing cards, you'll be drawing your colt peacemaker.
Out on the range, 25 feet away, is a wheel with all 52 playing cards.
One at a time, you'll pick up the gun and fire one bullet at a card on the wheel.
You have sevenhots to make the best five-card hand.
You do not have to use all your seven shots.
The best hand is safe from elimination.
So, basically, seven-card stud.
You guys got it? All right.
Kelly, you'll be shooting first.
Give both of you guys a couple seconds to get ready.
We'll shuffle the deck.
Then we'll go.
Andre: First thing I'm thinking is, "oh, no.
" I've never played poker in my life.
So, it's like I got the gun down pat, I was real comfortable with it, but, damn it, poker.
Kelly: I have never played this game before, and I have very little experience playing poker.
Hopefully I hit my targets.
Donaldson: Coming up on "top shot" The best hand is safe from elimination.
Well, now things are getting interesting.
You're what they call drawing dead.
Andre, Kelly, you guys ready to play some poker? Yeah.
Whoever ends up with the best hand is safe from elimination.
Loser is going home.
Kelly, you first.
I've never played seven-card stud before, so I have to look at the board of winning possible hands.
One shot at a time.
[ Gunshot .]
Kelly nails it ace of hearts with his first bullet.
All right, Andre.
Andre: We both start shooting, and it seems like myself and Kelly are both going for the same thing.
Andre on the board with the ace of spades.
We both go for the royal flush.
Okay, Kelly, you're up.
He's going for the hearts, and I'm going for the spades.
Kelly king of hearts.
King of spades.
Right through the queen of hearts.
Queen of spades.
Kelly four for four with his bullets.
Just lands one in the middle of the Jack of hearts.
Jack of spades.
Kelly, you're up.
Well, now things are getting interesting.
Kelly, were you going for the 10 of spades? For the block with the 10 of spades.
Well, you missed it.
Clean shot, no cards hit.
Andre, your turn.
Well, Kelly couldn't hit it, but Andre drills it, right in the middle of the 10 of spades.
Andre now has a royal flush.
To stay in the game, Kelly must hit the 10 of hearts.
Kelly hits the 10 of hearts.
So, gentlemen, we have a tie.
Both of you have a royal flush, so we're gonna play one more hand.
Once again, the best five-card hand wins.
But this time, you're only gonna get five shots.
And you can't use the cards that have already been hit.
Those won't be replaced.
Make sense? All right.
Andre, you'll go first.
Fire when ready.
When Andre shot the 2 of spades, I had no idea what was going on.
There was a gazillion things you could have done and lessons learned from the last one.
I don't understand what the hell they what was happening there.
Donaldson: Kelly going for the ace of clubs but misses it, and I mean by a fraction.
Andre, you're up.
Andre hits the 6 of spades.
Kelly: Missing my first shot at the ace of clubs put me in a pickle.
Andre hit the 2 and 6 of spades, bracketing a straight flush.
If I go for a four of a kind, I can't beat a straight flush.
So I got to block him, and I got to hope that he misses one of his next shots.
Donaldson: Five of spades.
A little defensive move there.
All right, Andre, you're up.
Direct hit.
Andre connects with the four of spades.
Kelly hits the 5 of hearts on his third shot.
You're now sitting on a pair of 5s.
Andre, your turn.
Andre: After Kelly hit the 5 of spades and I figured he's trying to block me, so what's going through my mind, not being a poker player, is, should I shoot his color, should I still continue to shoot my color? At that point, I was just kind of lost and just didn't want to miss.
[ Gunshot .]
Donaldson: Andre hits the 4 of hearts.
Okay, Kelly, you have a pair of 5s.
That is a shot right in the middle of the 5 of clubs.
All right, Kelly, that is a three of a kind for you.
Andre, you're what they call drawing dead.
There is no way for you to win at this point.
So this challenge is over.
Kelly, you are victorious.
Andre: Honestly, I really didn't have a plan.
I was trying to figure out what he was doing.
But, once again, I'm not a poker player, so I couldn't pick up on it as fast.
Hoglund: A large part of the shooting sports is the mental game.
Success of the shooters often comes down to the tactical and strategic decision-making skills.
Unfortunately, this was the downfall for both the red team in the team event and for Andre in the individual competition.
Kelly, you win this competition.
You can rejoin your team.
Andre, unfortunately, you have fired your last shot.
You've officially been eliminated from "top shot.
" I'll give you a moment to say goodbye to your teammates.
You can head on out.
I will play poker with you any day.
I would say I'm not disappointed.
I came out, and I did what I wanted to do, and that was redeem myself with this weapon.
I didn't miss any shots.
But I got outmaneuvered.
But, I mean, it is what it is.
Good luck to you, Andre.
Thank you.
Andre: From being here, I learned a lot of things about myself.
I've never shot some of these weapons before.
To be able to come out and just apply those fundamentals and be successful, to meet a lot of stand-up people, and just have a fun time doing it, it was just a great experience.
Donaldson: On the next episode of "top shot" It's a trick-shot showdown.
On this special episode, the competitors will attempt some of the most famous trick shots inistory Wow, it was like a magical world when I walked up guns and stuff to shoot.
Donaldson: Shooting over the shoulder with a mirror Driving a nail into a board Throwing and hitting a small target.
Can these marksmen show the extreme skills that take exhibion shooters years to master? Brad: I've never done trick shooting before, so, you know, bring it on.
